he is nice, but after b28 i started hating him. reeeeaaally hard course
Kewl Funny guy! Wish his assignments are easier
course is easy, assigns are hard
He is extremely nice and very sympathic. One of my favourite professors!
Great Prof, Good Sense of Humour, Teaches well.
He seems to be even lazier than I am...
Easy assignments...hard exam....
good and really helpful prof
Here's a proof that took a genius 50 rs to figure out I am gonna leave it for u
Never hands stuff back on time! Yet still good lecturer & good help with assign.
short time for ass'n...no extension...
great teacher... tough exam
EXAM WAS TOO EASY. HE SHOULDN'T THINK WE ARE ALL IDIOTS AND MAKE IT HARDER
actually knows his stuff. Makes assignments challenging but a excellent prof
Good but lazy and moody. Dosen't hand stuff back until the last minute.
Utter fool. He is perfect for people who just want to get by and get a degree.
Good jks, easy mid/final, but the long hair and the pink shirt must go!
He is soo lazy, but he is funny, luv to comm. w/ gals...haha
Pretty easy. Takes forever to hand back assignments.
umm. he looks like a bum now with the long hair and beard
LAZY LAZY LAZY
Like his lecutres, nice person
very laid back, and dishevelled, but good prof. The 80's are gone man!
The 80 are nice to think about, but not to wear.
Unique collector of Hawaian shirts. Helps offset boring class.
Very laid back and easy to talk with but too busy though. His office always has a queue. His beard is too scary.
Lazy. Takes forever to get back assignments. Always has a queue of students at his office. Not always honest.
really knows his stuff; very helpful, even with stuff from other courses; thank god scarborough managed to snatch him away from erindale
He's a good guy but has some bad jokes like every other professor. He's very clear in his explanations and I liked having him. His sense of humour starts to grow on you too.
He is fun. Dresses like a biker; he so has a bike :). He would look great on a harley :). He explains everything, and manages to make lectures fun.
Good prof, nice guy, but takes forever mark things. Also doesn't give sample answers because he reuses questions every year

Great prof., he tells you in class what he wants you to know, and thats exactly what shows up on exams. He's extremely nice to students, and likes it when students do well.
The couse wasn't that hard. He teachers from old lecture notes, so you don't really need to attend lectures if you can keep up. Midterm was suprising, but final was predictable.
pancer is the god of computer science at utsc!! I LOVE THIS GUY!! hes wicked
he is SUX and lazy.... give me a very hard time in U.
He SUX Period. NEVER GO TO HIM FOR ADVICE. Even though u did bad in midterm he will tell u will be fine. And at the end of the course it turns out you failed the course. I barely made it but my friend wasn't so lucky.
Very laid back. Unfortunately, he will try to give you a hard time. He wasn't always like this though. He's one of those people that got so smart that he became a little insane. Luckily, he is on sabbatical leave this year so he will be gone for quite a while.
Horrible Prof

to be fair, just OK
this guy is complete moron. Dont take his course if you dont have to... he is not helpful...one bit... although i got a 77... take cathy jansen if you could.... this guys is simply one lonely hobo
Lectures are a waste of time. Never elaborates beyond notes, always late, and barely works. Takes forever to mark anything. Dresses like a biker. Claims to have quizes in tutorials but never does.
Completely useless professor. He never earned my respect.
Nice guy. Extremely approachable but can offer advice that is too laid back (ie: stick it out.. you'll do well on the final). In CS it's hard to find somebody who can explain the material and has a sense of humour. Overall a great prof.
Very intelligent person. good sense of humor. And SUPER hot. A little lazy but that adds to his hotness. Teaching way is good but he speaks so fast, it sounds like he is quickly going over everything although he is not.
Horrible professor. Poor teaching qualities.
I LOVED THIS GUY HE'S SO HOT AND FUNNY. EASIEST CLASS EVER ESPECIALLY THE MIDTERM
EASIEST COURSE OF MY LIFE, ESPECIALLY THE MIDTERM
Very vague course, bad structure.
Professor is a NICE guy but the course material being taught by him is not very clearly understand.
Sarcasm
The midterm is quite hard, the average is around 40s. Then he bell curved the midterm. YAY And it gets better, the final exam is extremely easy compared to midterm. When I saw the final exam questions I realized I actually don't even need to study for the final, lol. Lecture is ok. No text book. Funny and cool prof, will take his class again.
Did not provide us enough questions to prepare us for the midterm and assignments haven't been marked yet since two months ago. Finally told us the appropriate textbook to use the week before final exam.
Lectures were very unclear and instead of explaining concepts he would instead explain problems, making the concepts hard to understand. After doing research on the internet I found that there were rules and subjects he failed to teach or even mention.
The course does not follow what is shown in course Syllabus. Pancer continuously broke promises in the course. The course prereq. should really be CSCA48. I wouldn't recommend taking the course before taking CSCA48. In general I wouldn't recommend you take the course at all.
Does not cover the material, does not reply to emails, does not provide corrections, doesn't even give you your assignment grades. His assignment questions are so far removed from what he does teach that they are impossible without independent learning.
An absolute legend. Maybe the best prof at utsc. Lectures were never boring with this guy.
I've taken 3 courses with Pancer and I'm getting tired of it. He teaches like you already have a degree in computer science and he seems to have favourite subjects he likes to spend all lecture talking about but he'll gloss over the other important concepts - then test you on it. In short - smart guy, bad prof.
Not that bad at teaching but test was hard. I wouldnt recommend but a decent one.
Worst instructed course ever. It's Jan 2nd & I have not received a mark on assignments/exercises since Nov 4th. Final exam was brutal since the material to study was limited & he never explained concepts in class just think of other examples when doing problems. The instruction and organization of course was a joke. sucks cuz material is interestin
Funny guy, but not the best teacher. Doesn't explain concepts that clearly.
Knows his stuff
He knows what he's talking about, but you really gotta understand lecture notes specifically cause he can take a specific paragraph from it and make a question out of it. If you need help, go to his office hours and he'll tell you what you can.
Will give Assignments and Midterms that are similar to past years. However, he makes the final insanely difficult. Write down every word he says. If you have questions, meet him in person always. Nice guy. Knows his stuff. Bad teacher.
Overall, meh. Instructed the counting/probability portion. He is a nice/funny guy, uses simple examples in his lectures to teach. His assessments are also pretty simple for the most part. Final exam ended up being 5% of what he taught us, I dropped 12% from it. Tip: Get close to 100% in the non-exam parts (50%) and stay above average on the tests.
How does he manage to do everything late where we don't even get half our assignments back for the final exam, and manage to screw everyone over in the final. Maybe it's different in later years, but I went to him during office hours and he either didn't know what he was talking about or didn't care enough to answer my questions.
He doesn't even pretend to care.
He is a good lecturer, I find the lecture really helpful. But he doesn't care! Regardless of how good he is, if I don't get any of my grades back, that is useless, because how am I supposed to know if I learned the correct thing or not? All my other courses' final grades are out, for his course, I didn't even get my first assignment back.
Pancer skipped two months of lecture, posted some unreadable notes then expect you to finish mid terms and an assignment.
He is a pass at teaching, once you are used to the way he talks with him mouth closed, and that's assuming when he does teach, like he did for last year, which obviously he didn't this semester, as others mentioned he basically skipped school as a professor
He literally skipped the first 2 months of class and is now trying to pack 3 months of lecture content, 3 assignments, a midterm and a final all within the span of 5 weeks. He doesn't even care about his students, no office hours what so ever, and even the TAs are kinda lost. How is this guy still a prof?
Not bad, although he did skip the first 2 months, the material isn't too difficult to do in just 1 month. And the averages for midterm and assignments are skyhigh(like really high, it's 80 for assignments and 70 for the midterm). Also had the cr/ncr option.
Each lecture, he reviews the notes from the previous lecture to clear up any confusion or reiterate important information, which I found to be incredibly useful. The course is well structured and Pancer provides neatly written notes on the course website. Pancer has also replied to me almost immediately when I emailed him questions in the course.
An amazing professor who truly cares that their students learn and understand the concepts. Assignments and tests are extremely fair and if you study you should do fine!
Good professor. C37 is hard - not be cause he makes it so, but because the material really just is hard to understand. He gives great lectures, explains things clearly, and the assignments really serves to strengthen your knowledge. However, the course has no online element at all, including lecture notes. So be ready to attend lecs.
Takes a long time to go over some basic stuff so lectures can get very boring, especially since he does 3 hour lectures. Takes forever to get grades back, but the assignments are easy. If you study past midterms/finals you will do very well.
Terrible - dismissive during OH and doesn't care about learning. Lecture material is trivial and boring, assignments are of a much higher difficulty. Most of the class is enrolled because they're forced to - the SG equivalent has a 60% drop rate as it isn't required for SG CS or Stats, and this class would be even higher if it wasn't required
Look for resources from previous years for further study materials in C37, and you should be mostly set. Having friends in upper years who have taken it already would also be a big plus LOL - not particularly remarkable otherwise.
My main issue with him is how he treats students. As a girl, he terrified me, he was so dismissive and unsupportive, even when asked questions in a respectful manner. Additionally, his marking is absurdly harsh. Either fully correct or fully wrong, even for 10 mark questions. For both homework and assignments and exams.
Lecture material is nothing like what is being asked in assignments and exams. Additionally, there are no practice questions and tutorials after the midterm only cover the assignment solutions, not the material being covered. Lastly, lecture notes and tutorial notes are not recorded or posted anywheres.
Sitting through his lectures was the biggest chore of my week - the lectures bore me to tears and I have to put all my might into paying attention. He provides no accommodation if you miss a lecture - they are not recorded and he doesn't post notes even though he takes them in class.
Absolute worst prof at the university. Lectures are extremely unclear. Just keeps talking and never explains the important stuff. Extremely hard to follow through. Zero online resources or OH provided so it's impossible to learn on you own. Doesn't fully listen to questions in OH. Avoid if possible at all costs.
Inconsistent and rigid grading scheme that seems to contradict the objective of this course. Phrases concepts in an extremely vague (and sometimes incorrect) way (FYI he said the real numbers are compact but a finite set of numbers is not--he meant DENSE), can be inspiring in OHs as long as the discussion topic is not about lecture materials.
No materials posted, harsh grading, bad teaching style. Avoid if possible.
harsh grading. avoid.
What can I say, MAN
Must go to OH to know what he wants, or risk getting 0. Never ask what you did wrong, he will chew you out and say you should lose more marks. Inconsistent grading, same answers get anywhere from 40% to 100% based on TA. Provides no practice material for exam. AVOID AT ALL COSTS, take CSC336 instead, transfer to UTSG to avoid needing this class.
The GOATED prof! It is always exciting to take his 3-hour lectures every week! And he will provide all kinds of materials such as lecture notes, tutorial notes, and every year's past midterm and exam to students! Grading Scheme is very very generous!
No materials, bad grading
No lecture notes, attendance is mandatory. More theoretical but easier than c37. Medium workload, most assignment problems are straightforward, and grading is very lenient as long as your answers are reasonable. Recommend to take immediately after c37.
no lecture notes, no past exams, no practice, no recording, attendance matters
He's a very tricky prof. He does not post any lecture notes and share additional resources like past exams. Hence, if you skip even one lecture and you have no friend in class, then you are basically over. However, his lecture notes are mostly all you need to get through all his assessments, and he does not expect more than what he covers in class.
