Nice guy, just really boring

a very sweet guy that makes the info easy to understand and very clear. the class notes are on the internet, so if you miss a class, you're still good. the lectures aren't very exciting, but hey, neither are old people.

VERY nice man. he tries hard, but way to frenetic of a personality. If you struggle with math you have a 50/50 chance of learning anything from him. He's too fast and too loud.

Great teacher. Very helpful and cares alot for his students. He does move at high speed at all times, so you need to pay close attention to keep up.

Took in 6 weeks during summer term, and passed with an A. Nice guy who does a lot of examples in class. Gives test reviews that are similiar to the actual test. Lets you use formula sheets on the test as well. Doesn't get any better than that.

Great teacher! Funny and interesting examples; a nice break in the lecture. Answers questions and will go over things again. Study guides just like the test, just know the material. Homework just on problems needed for test. Offers help before class and general help on tests. Classes fill up fast!

This teacher is the best math teacher I have ever had. He gives a review before each test and as long as you study that you will pass. He also relates statistics to everyday life!!! He is great

I didn't really pay too much attention in class but all you have to do is write everything down come review day. If you study and know the review you will come out with an A. Thinkin of taking him for Calc 1 over the summer just because for his test reviews and cause he gives you the formulas.

piva is a FABULOUS teacher, however our Spring05 semester class was royally screwed when he had health problems right at the end of the semester. we had no final review with the prof and a different prof gave and graded our final, COMPLETELY differently. i had a 97 in this class and ended up with a B due to the final, be careful.

I had this teacher for Int Algebra, College Alg and Essential of Calculus. I had never had Algebra in my life and he was the best teacher if you have trouble with math. He teaches only what you need to know and uses common sense and shortcuts. If you can't pass his class, don't bother taking math.

Hes the nicest professor you will ever meet. He scores on a point system, so you just keep doing EASY assignments until you get an A. Greatest class if you care about your grades.

Piva teaches because he wants to. He has a passion for teaching, especially for 'non traditional' age students going back to school. His classes are full of energy, and he concentrates on what you need to know. He has his own formulas and methods. He gives you an excellent test review AND gives you all the formulas on the test.

What an interesting experience! He actually made stats an interesting place to be. If you come to class, take notes, and look to the review, you will get a good grade. If you are worried go to him. He is a bit loud but you'll get used to him.. Sounds like Pacino! Thank God he is healthy. Take him! Funny too!

Piva is a great teacher! He cuts out the BS and gives you what you need to learn. Wish I could take him for CalcII over the summer. Math is hard for most so don't expect it to be easy. He will help you understand, just ask.

a very nice man... but borin class am guessin its becuase its adult psy...also his class note and the testbook are on different pathways and his test finds itself in the middle ground. yea... i dont kno how dats possible. so read the testbook and class notes. he grades fairly... no curves.

Piva is a WONDEFUL teacher!! He does move fast so you need to be their for every class. He sets everyone up to pass by going over the study guide he gives you the day before, which is very similar to the test. Take his class!! I signed up for two more of his classes for the fall!!

I have taken Mr.Piva now for several classes. He is amazing. You have to really try hard to fail his class. He is funny and a great teacher. If you show up to class, do your homework-which is not an enormous amount, and review your notes for about 10 minutes before every test you WILL get an A.

Piva is my beacon thru the mire. He is clear, fun, makes it as easy as possible. He cares deeply that we all learn. Great, great teacher. BCC is VERY lucky to have him.

I took Piva for College Algebra and Trig. He is the best teacher I have ever had. He moves with the pace of the class and really cares about all of his students. Mr. Piva is the sweetest teacher who cares about his students and their success. You never have to memorize a formula and can always use a calculator. The only thing is this may not prepare you well enough for higher level math classes. It is a personal choice though and he is an excellent teacher nonetheless.

If you have the opportunity to take this class, do it. I waited a semester just to get Piva and he is the best teacher ever. He actually cares about students and their comprehension of the material.

Mr. Piva is an excellent teacher...by far the BEST math teacher!He truly cares about his students. I took him for Intermediate Algebra & College Algebra. I encourage you to do the same. His tests are from the study guide...no surprises. If you do the homework & come to class prepared, you will succeed. He is an ASSET to BCC's Math Department.

Professor Piva is a God-send to me! I have a math disability and he makes sure, every lesson, that I am keeping up, that I understand, and that I am not lost in the crowd of students who find algebra to be easy. I say thank God for Professor Piva. His study guides allow me to be totally prepared for his exams, I do wish he would type them, however!

Professor Hoyer is fantastic. He really cares about all of his students and will answer any question you might have. You can tell he loves what he does and really cares a great deal about his field. Although most comments say his lectures are boring, that's probably because they sat in the back and made no effort.

Go to class listen and do the work and you will pass Algebra. He is a great teacher that cares a lot.

8 am class with a monotone and boring teacher is not fun.. but its adult psychology i dont think it can be that fun... he really does love what he does and is helpfulll if you need it. Also he gives review sheets...DO THEM! really help on the test and give you 10 pts, reading the book isnt nessecary though

I love Mr. Piva! He is absolutely hilarious and knows his stuff. His handwriting is horrible but if you're paying attention, you'll know what's going on. His practice tests are almost identical to the real tests and he is very good at reviewing before an exam. Awesome teacher!

I took College algebra once before and I failed it. Math is not my forte. Mr. Piva breaks everything down, and will help you until you understand it. His test reviews are the EXACT test so if you complete them once or twice you'll ace the test. I got a 99% on the final and ended up with a 97% in the class! He is also HYSTERICAL!!

Amazing person...great educator. I've only been in Mr. Piva's class 1 week and I can already tell he has an absolutely amazing gift for teaching mathematics. He keeps classes fun, but focused on learning. He's made so many things "click" in my head to help understand concepts better than any other math teacher I've had in my whole life.

Mr. Piva did an excellent job of explaining Algebra. He did not over assign homework to keep you busy, however he assigned just enough to make sure you learned properly. I wish I could take him for Statistics...GREAT CLASS!!!

I have had Dr. Piva for Precalculus before. He is even better in Calculus. Again, I recommend this professor for anyone in mathematics.

LOVED THIS CLASS! I'm an aspiring Computer Engineer, so I need a LOT of math. I also am one to try and get really good teachers for every class, and I am SO glad I picked him. While he is quite old, he's hilarious, sweet, loves his students, and knows what he's teaching. Tells hilarious stories and prepares students well for tests. TAKE HIM! :)

Piva obviously doesn't need anymore praise, he is freakin awesome. Great guy, great professor. Only critique I could come up with is now that I am in precalc/trig without him, I don't know squat. I memorized more than learned in Piva's class, got a 96. Most people in my current class seem to be better prepared than me. Maybe they took calc in H.S.

I had Mr.Piva for precalc/trig. He is a great teacher, but his grades are based soley on 5 tests and the final. I was confident all semster that i'd get an A, but I ended up with a B because of the final and am SO DISAPPOINTED. He is a great teacher though. I do reccommend him but if you take him you need to be consistent with him for all classes.

Taking algebra with Mr Piva was on honor. He cares for his students wants them all to pass & does all he can to help them. Caring, friendly, fun, positive, respectful, helpful, accessible. he teaches you only what you will really need. takes time to explain if you did not understand. tests and final could not be easier. easy A but don't miss class.

Seriously the best teacher I've ever had. Everyday I walked in I was super excited and happy. So much passion for his students. He could literally go over 2+2=4 all day until everyone understood it. Always has funny stories about anything. If you're weak at math, take him. If you're strong at math, you'll have a blast.

Mr. Piva is a god-send. I would not have been able to get my AA without him. Took college algebra with him as well as this class and he is helpful and wants everyone to pass! encouraging as well. Pay attention to what he says and writes or you will get lost. One of my favorite teachers I've ever had.

While, he writes all over the board (illegably) that for some proves confusing until reading the book vs. the piva way on own time. I would recommend. Unlike other math instructors he gives a review guide that is just like the tests (but with different numbers). He goes over the homework. He has a funny personality that keeps math interesting.

I've taken every math class I can with Mr. Piva, and he has been a life saver. I have always struggled with math, but ended this 5 credit class with a high "B"! He is very helpful and accommodating, and wants everyone to pass. Make sure you study for the tests and quizzes, you do get one drop score. Life saver, bless this man!!

Seriously the nicest and funniest teacher ive ever had in college. He teaches really well and will answer every question and wont go on until you understand completely. I have never been good at math, let alone ever understood any problems on a math test until Piva. He is an amazing teacher and he really helps you understand whats going on in class. He's also hilarious and full of jokes. He makes the classroom a nice atmosphere so students feel comfortable to ask questions and discuss any confusion.

Mr. Piva is an amazing math teacher who I would recommend to anyone at any level of math. He makes sure the students understand the material and is always available for office hours. He ensures every student learns what they are there for. He tells many jokes, pretty sure Bad Grandpa was based off of him. Best teacher ever hands down.

I only got a C because I messed up at the final. But this man is a teacher sent by God to make algebra as sample as it can get. He gave out little homework only because he wants you to get the idea, how you work out assignments, has great study guides and helps you during every exam. Grades only come from tests though. Mr. Piva is a great math teacher. He makes calculus 1 painless and enjoyable. His tests are very similar to his test review, and he gives little homework. The homework is optional and is not graded, but he goes over each question in class and makes sure that everyone understands it. I feel very blessed to have met such a great professor.

Great teacher, really made me like calculus (odd), would definitely take him again. Made a lot of jokes that made the long class period fun and entertaining but stuck to the material and made the tests around the study guide he hands out.

Took this class back in the 6 week summer term. Yes, he is very easy, but if you need more calculus classes above this, I urge you to reconsider because of how little effort this class takes. If you just need a math credit, then by all means take him, he is a hilarious guy.

Mr. Piva is so funny. He's a mix of Gilbert Godfried and Seinfield with his humor and his voice. No homework. You learn by doing example problems in class. He messes them up a lot, but he is an amazing professor and I would take him for all math classes if I could.

Never have I ever felt so emotional to walk out of a teacher's classroom but he's seriously the best professor that I've ever had. You won't regret taking him!

Mr. Piva is a solid choice if you want an easy A in any math course. Goes over every type of problem you'll see on the test because the examples are the tests (he only changes the numbers around). Cracks jokes, tells stories to keep it interesting. As long as you pay attention and write down the example problems he goes over, you'll have no trouble

Ive taken Piva for the past 3 semesters and have gotten an A in every class. He is SO funny and really wants everyone to pass. He doesn't grade anything but tests but makes it very easy to pass them. His lectures can be a little all over the place at times but he really takes the time to know each student and will answer any question. Love him!

This professor was super nice and caring. The problem was how I did not learn anything. He was all over the place with teaching and I learned nothing at all. I still got an A from studying and getting tutored. The only grades are 4 tests and everything is worked out, no multiple choice.

I love this teacher. I hate majority of the math teachers at EFSC because of their teaching styles. It takes a while to pick up on Piva's style, but if you ask questions he is always there to help. He's an awesome teacher and I wished I had him for all my math classes.

Great teacher. First time getting him and it took a while to understand his teaching method. He give test reviews where he goes over each problem and will only switch the numbers to make it easier. His stories are amazing too!

Best math professor I've ever had. Funny Italian guy from New Jersey. Class was graded from 4 tests. Homework was assigned every other week. Practice tests are the same as the actual tests he just changes the numbers around. Very generous grader and gives partial credit.

Always struggled with algebra but ended with a 96 in the class. He really cared that everyone understood every topic. The only grades in the class were 4 or 5 tests but he graded super fairly.

He called me personally on the phone to explain a question I emailed to him, very polite guy who makes sure you understand his requirements for the course. gives very good resources for course material!

I took the 6-week summer course and it was very intense. Because of the covid-19 everything went online. Intense class. The tests are timed based on the homework so review the homework and you will do very well. 3 chapter tests, lots of homework, and a cumulative final exam. An organized class. Very good experience.

Everything is done via MyMathLab, but it is not bad at all. You get unlimited tries on the homework and quizzes. You get one try on the test (90 minutes to complete) but it is not proctored. There are four tests. You do have a proctored midterm and final, however do not be afraid. Study and you WILL pass with flying colors. Professor Piva rocks!

Mr. Piva is hilarious and cares for his students. If you study and show up and prove to him that you care; you will get an A.

Prof. Piva is funny and explains the exercises in a clear way. Her exams are exactly the same as the study guides, however you must study and understand each exercise in the guide or you will not do well. Average exam grades were B's so don't think it will be as easy as others say. Your grade only depends on exams (4 exams).

Professor Piva is the greatest math teacher I've ever had. He has excellent lectures and a great sense of humor/stories. He gives extremely comprehensive test reviews which made tests easy to prepare for and generally very easy. He made learning math simple, easy, and fun. I can't recommend him enough, he is an amazing teacher.

Mr. Piva is a great professor, he truly cares about helping and making sure everyone understands what hes teaching. He is not teaching because he needs the job/money, he does it because he loves to help and make relationships with his students. Definitely one of the best professors Ive had and I will be taking him again.

Overall, he's a very relaxed professor and makes his class seem very welcoming. He makes all subjects simple and straightforward, and doesn't assign a whole lot of homework. Definitely a good teacher and I'd recommend him for anyone struggling in math.

I took his summer class, a fast class but he made sure we understood everything. Before we had tests he'd give us detailed review sheets that were very similar to the test. The day before the test, he'd review everything. If we didn't feel comfortable with the test, he'd push it back for us. He also gave very detailed and understanding lectures.
