Cool teacher, always goes over the material until he knows that everyone understands and if it's taking too long, he's always available after class to talk, he finishes up quick, so you get out a little early, grades fair, funny guy. Definitely would take a class w/ him again.
Reviews all material until you understand, gives homework and goes over until you understand. gives 3 test and a project. pass all 3 test and turn in the project you will pass and you donot have to take the final exam. He is a good professor and fair.
The fist day when i walked into class I did not know what to think. Prof is very eccentric. He is a sweet guy and I really did enjoy his class. He makes thing as clear as possible and his test are very fair. I wold def register again for him if i could. He can realate to the class very well which i feel is important
You would be an idiot not to take this guy's class if he is teaching a course you need. His tests are incredibly fair and don't be ashamed to ask him any questions because he has enough patience to teach the material to doorknob. Extremely flexible and all around a cool dude.
This man is a genius! He is extremely intelligent and makes the class interesting. You don't really need to use the textbook because he explains the material well. His exams are extremely fair.
Ok. you have to be brain dead to not get atleast a B. If you have the ability to learn, it's an A. He's GREAT. Explains EVERYTHING until class gets it. Exams couldn't be more fair. If this man helped anymore, he'd have to take the class for you!!! Will take anything he's teaching that I need. Change your schedule and take him 100%.
Hands down the best. He cant be any more clear or make it any easier! He gives review sheets before the test... which are the test with different numbers. No tricks, no games. Straight up. Easy A. Will take ANY class with him.
A very "in tune" with the students professor. Very approachable if help is needed.
prof. pollard extremely intelligent, fair, fully explains difficult concepts, until everyone who will ask understands. not an easy class, but will make it seem easy due to the way he teaches.
Prof Pollard proved that he's incredibly intelligent, but he struggles to explain the material in laymen's terms. He often jumps from the math formula to the solution with no reasoning in between. The material could be covered in a fraction of the time if it wasn't for the unrelated sidebar conversations between the professor and students.
I was afraid going into the class since im not good at math. BUT Prof Pollard made it so simple. Do the hw , the reviews are basically the same as the tests ,two proj and a final. He drops the lowest grade too & he makes the class fun. You cant go wrong taking a class with him !
easy class, goes over the work carefully ask questions very helpful, tells some off topic stories makes the class interestin not all about math, funny guy,do the homework and the tests will be easy, half my class didnt need to take the final to get an A
Professor Pollard is a wonderful teacher. He teaches the useful aspects of basic statistics and keeps the class interested with funny jokes and stories. I have to admit I hate math and dreaded this class but looking back, it will be one of my favorites because of him. I got an A in this class and I am far from great at math. Miss you Prof. P!!
He might be a good teacher in other classes but do not take calc II with him. He makes the whole process harder than what is realy is. You can go on youtube and watch videos and pass his class. He gives assignments (projects) that makes no sense. But he's ok just sucks when it comes to teaching new classes
I recieved an A in the class, however, it was not easy. He is very unclear when he teaches. He just writes information on the board and expects that you already know it. He doesnt explain it unless you ask. Hes a very nice gentlemen but can be strange sometimes. His tests are EXACTLY like the review sheet. He was pretty fair with the overall grade.
I took his Calc 2 class and received an A, but it was not easy. My A was a result of my own effort. I had to teach myself everything and go to other professors. He was nice, although very odd and random. He would get off topic for an hour at a time, right before our final. He writes random stuff on the board and thats it, No explanations.
Awesome professor. Attend the classes, do the homework you can skip the final. Clear, takes his time with the subject matter, lets the classes out early. Realizes the brain can only take so much.
The best!!!!!!! Totally take him!!!
He is hilarious and very skillful. Also, he is very easy to understand.
Great professor, easy A as long as you attend EVERY class. Attendance not mandatory but you will hurt yourself if you miss it, he does not recap anything and will tell you to go to math center for help. Funny and very easy going. Did not need textbook and got A.
Richard Pollard is a very deep, interesting professor when it comes to many aspects of life including math. I didn't have a very good understanding of statistics before I took this class and now I can see how I can apply some of these concepts in my career. Sure I got an A in the course but I had to work for it.
He's the best professor ever. I dont like math and with him everything was so easy understanding. you have to go to class everyday because if you miss one class you will be lost. You have 3 test , 2 projects and homework for everyclass if you do this you will get an easy A. Very highly recomended I ill take him for other mats but I dont need it
The best profe in the entire world..... The best I will miss him he is funny.....;(
Just gonna give the facts: Took him in the summer, gave 3 exams and 3 project grades. (Do the homework and the test review and you will do well on the exams) The Projects on the other hand are hard in my opinion except project 1. He Keeps the class entertained and loves teaching. I dropped MTH 129 the first time but this guy made it simple to learn
Great teacher attend class... Couple tests and couple projects that were a 29 in hardness overall if i have to take another class he will be my teacher. HE IS VERY STRAIGHT FORWARD
THIS MAN IS PHENOMENAL! DEFF TAKE HIS CLASS,HE INPUTS HIS ZANY ENERGY INTO THE CLASS TO MAKE A DRY SUBJECT MORE FUN, IF HE SEES YOU ARE TRYING AND ATTEND CLASS REGULARLY HE WILL WORK WITH YOU, HES AN ASSET TO FARMINGDALE !!!!
Made the materials very easy to understand, which made the subject enjoyable. Do all the hw, projects are challenging, must do reviews!
Great professor that made the subject very easy to understand. The lessons were delivered with enthusiasm. Do all the hw to help with tests, projects really challenged me.
I wish all professor would use the same approach to conducting their classes. Awesome professor!!!
Fantastic professor truly talented. I was able for the 1st time EVER to understand Pre-calc w/application with great ease! This Prof NEEDS to teach Calc as well. You are a life saver Prof P.
Not only is Richard Pollard an outstanding teacher, he is a world class human being. I had a very rough semester personally and I have always hated math. He made the subject easy to grasp but still challenging. He was also very understanding of some difficult circumstances.I enjoyed his class and would recommend him to anyone.(Tip, go to class.)
3 tests, 3 projects, and 10 homeworks. Very nice and knowledgeable but goes very off topic frequently. Tests and projects are easy and fair if you learn the material outside of class (math center). I *personally* didn't find the lessons very helpful. You don't need the textbook. Overall, very fair gradewise but a bit confusing.
I always struggled with statistics...going into Professor Pollards class i didnt know what to expect, being a kid who hates math i never missed a class because he was so helpful and made math fun. I love him, definitely take this class! hes so helpful !!!!!!!!
Great professor. He gives 3 tests & 3 projects. Those projects saved my grade. He lets you redo the projects till you get a hundred. Thought I was going to fail the class but I got a B- because of the projects! He is hilarious & I loved the class. Take him, try your best, do the projects & you won't fail.
One of my best profs. so far if i had to take him again for a class i would. Just attend class pay attention do the Hmw and you will be fine
One word to describe this professor and class: EXCELLENT!!
Amazing professor, explains material very well, funny. Take him.
Funny professor. I suck at math but he made the class interesting. Make sure you go over the homework over and over again, it does help. 3 tests and 3 projects . surprisingly did well on the exams. He lets you redo the projects until you get a higher grade. Definitely take his class. I got an A in the class!
I was always bad at math, he made me understand difficult lessons with ease. Wonderful Professor, Wonderful Human.
I thought statistics would be complex since I am a person who sucks at math. However, Professor Pollard taught me so much! Make sure you hand in all homework he sends out, there are 3 projects and 3 quizzes. Sounds like a lot, but he's very lenient and always gives second chances. Consider him for any math courses.
He's a good professor and taught well. He's hilarious but the only thing that bothered me was that he wasted so much time talking about nonsense. Which wasn't terrible wasting time but I would have much rathered getting the lecture done and leaving early
He's the NICEST guy ever. You will pass as long as you try. I failed most of the tests and still passed... You don't need to be there but I recommend it. He's hysterical and makes the class very enjoyable with all of his jokes. Would love to take him again if he teaches another math that I need in the future.
He makes too much jokes to waste time, rather than teaching thoroughly and fully explaining the topic and steps and letting us out early. It was almost like every time we went to class he taught the same topic a different way, which made it harder to understand. He knows his stuff, but could explain things clearer.
I've never excelled at math. That being said, I found Professor Pollard's class both engaging and manageable. His expectations were clear and the homework was helpful when done prior to class. I highly recommend attending class, with doing so and reviewing material you'll do well!
Great professor, as long as you do homework and actually listen don't see how you cannot pass. He gives 3 projects which are complicated but he lets you again due them for a 100% grade. Very caring person who might seem like he doesn't care but he wants everyone to pass. Would definitely take him again for any math class.
Great professor, gods honest truth. The people who were failing the class either talked the entire period to others, didn't show up or simply didn't do homework or projects. You literally just have to show up and do the work to pass. He answers questions in riddles to challenge his students. Great professor to take overall.
AMAZING
I wish he was my Math teacher for my whole school life because he makes it a lot more simple. He takes his time and breaks it down. He wants everyone to understand the material and will stay on one topic if you ask him and he'll keep doing it until you feel you understand it.
I had him over the summer and i enjoyed the 5-6 weeks w/ him. Take this professor if you are taking Pre-Calc, Calc, or Calc 2 because he is a solid professor.. 3 Tests, 3 projects. The homework are basically on the tests. He goes over all the materiel he gives out and answers all questions. I hate math, but he made it sooooooooo easy to understand.
Solid professor.
Goes out of his way to make sure that everyone understands what's going on and will go over a topic/question multiple times until you get it. He assigns a lot of HW, but doesn't hold it against you if you if you don't do it, it's used more as review of topics than anything else. Incredibly funny, cracks jokes and tells stories to keep class fun.
if you are decent at math and prefer to understand the concept of what youre doing, this class will be easy. if youre not great at math and prefer to memorize equations and formulas, without understanding whats going on, you will hate it. he is sarcastic, but in a fun way. nice guy. 3 tests 3 projects. HW due for each class. i loved it.
Prof Pollard is a Math God, however unfortunately that doesn't mean we all are. Has a habit of thinking students know the material already. If you have questions he will eventually answer them, but not with out answering in riddles at least 3 times. The projects are easy and a grade booster. Overall class is passable but challenging . Do Your HW!
Very funny. 3 easy projects and 3 somewhat hard tests. As long as you go to class and do the homework it is easy to pass. Would definitely take again if i ever needed another math course
Professor Pollard is AWESOME!!! Perhaps the best professor I have had at Farmingdale. As an older student in my 40s and not taken a Math Course since HS, I was worried about how I would pass this course. Professor Pollard really makes you learn the material. He has great skill in teaching the material in multiple ways to reach everyone.
If I could PAY to have Pollard for every math class, I would. He is one of the most honest, kind and entertaining professors I've had the pleasure of meeting. Get ready for easily explained math knowledge and gut-busting stories. Just make sure to hand in the homework and you'll be fine. He's fairly understanding and lenient with due dates as well.
I have mixed feelings about him, he's a really cool guy, funny and teaches math very well. However, he wastes a lot of time telling stories rather than teaching math which is frustrating when you're taking a night class and just want to go home. I would take him again just probably not for a night class again.
The best math teacher I've had in my entire life. Absolutely hysterical and has some good stories. Definitely recommend
By far the best math professor i have ever had. He really takes his time to answer questions and really wants to see everyone succeed.
AWESOME Teacher, will really take the time to help if you need it, very smart.
Great professor. Will take the time to explain if you dont understand something. Would definitely take again.
You will really enjoy this class by far one of the best college professors I have had, very funny and engaging. Really cares for his students and makes sure they are comfortable. Like any math class, it can be a bit speedy in lectures but you shouldn't hesitate to reach out for help.
I hate math, but professor Pollard made it super easy, he's funny and understands it can be tedious. If you have questions he will answer, he is extremely accessible outside of class answers emails quickly. His tests are based on what you went over in class. One of those teachers who should be protected at all cost cause he's absolutely cares!!
Professor Pollard is the best! I always bad at math but he made it so clear! Very understanding and patient. If you show up, take notes, and do the Hw, you'll pass! No surprises on the exams, they look just like the hw.
The lectures are pretty long, and he explains the problems. The concepts were pretty hard, and needed self studying mostly. The homeworks were especially long and they were pulled from the textbook. There are 2 projects, 3 tests, and some homeworks.
By far the best math professor I've had. There is a very concise homework for you to do before each class if you put in the very little time required to learn and complete each homework you will get an A. He reviews the homework with you during the class and is very receptive to questions. He is a bit of a character which keeps things interesting.
I took this class in the summer and he's a great professor, very knowledgable and cares that his students understand everything. Had 2 tests in person, 1 take home test, 2 projects, and around 20 homework assignments out of the textbook. He goes over every homework which helps a ton. Class is challenging but he teaches at a great pace.
This Professor taught this class for the first time this summer and it was rough. Did not do well on his exams but did well on the HWs and projects. He had COVID and we were online for a week and it was challenging. Math is challenging for me and there were at times he did not see that. Otherwise, he is a funny professor and knows his stuff.
The literal best professor at FSC hes funny and really has a proper understanding and grasp on HOW to teach blows everyone else out of the water.
One of the best teachers I've ever had. I didn't participate much in class, but he's a teacher whose lectures stick, and any questions you may have he will absolutely answer until you understand. Very accomodating, hilarious, and gives lots opportunities to up your grade whether it's through homework or letting you know test questions in advance.
Loveed his class. Very funny and the tests were extremely easy. Hw each class but very short and easy. Would absolutely take him again
Professor Pollard is by far the best Professor I have ever had. He is hilarious and just amazing. His way of teaching is so good and he explains everything so well. You never get bored in his class; trust me, you will always look forward to attending it (if he is your Professor). I wish all Professors were like him.
cool fella
I've never been too good at math but this professor made it easy to understand things. HW matters and doing it alone will help your grade. there were three tests if you did homework and studied it a bit you'd be good to go for the exams. funny guy and made math not horrible to sit through
Really nice guy but very disorganized. Relies on students for due dates. 2 exams, 1 CUMULATIVE final, 2 projects, 22+ homeworks. Semi-challenging but got an A. Assumes prior knowledge, sometimes lacks explanations unless u ask. Tests mirror HWs. Refused to give review sheet for final. Rushed last project & last few topics due to off-topic stories.
Very nice guy but i have no patience for his nonsense all class
very nice guy but i have no patience for his nonsense. big story teller and doesn't cover all the material because of it. nothing makes sense. and im a very good math student, calc 1 was a breeze but calc 2 with him was horrendous
Professor Pollards stories were LEGENDARY!!! His stories were witty, and everything you'd expect from a Near-Genius-Level-Professor. Professor Pollards math skills are GREAT and all you have to do is ask a question and he'll help you. I got a C in the class but I'm not even mad because Professor Pollard was EXTREMELY KNOWLEDGEABLE. 9.9999/10
Because Professor Pollard was such a great professor I had to leave a second review. HIS STORIES WERE GREAT! He MOTIVATED students to work hard. He THOROUGHLY covered the material. There were NO CURVE BALL questions on any tests. He completely prepared us for all material. The professor structured class to HELP students understand the topic.
He yaps a lot and does not spend enough time on material. And as a person who's not very good at math, I would have liked more explanation on the work but he just assumes we should know the info. Very funny guy though.
When I transferred to my current school, I learned that I had to retake some math courses. He taught me Precalculus and made it extremely easy to understand since I plan on taking Calc 1 and 2 over the summer. If you have the chance to take one of his classes, you won't regret it!!
I took calc 2 and will also be taking methods of operations with proff. Pollard in the fall . He's extremely dedicated to his job ,making you learn and succeed. One of the best professors I ever had.
Genuinely such an amazing professor & such an amazing person. I enjoyed going to his lectures so much & he made learning an enjoyable experience. I would recommend his class to everyone & I would take it with him again. I took this course the first time with a different professor & failed, but I retook it with him & got an A.
He was a good and nice guy you could tell he cared about his students. but he Gave no review sheets or practice tests you were kind of left on your own to review and study. Meanwhile all of my other professors gave a study guide or a review sheet. didnt explain or breakdown his work when he taught kind of just did the work and that was it
Do not take this class. He does not know how to teach. Doesn't come prepared, he doesn't come with slides he just puts random questions on the board and than gives you a worksheet to do. Get ready to teach yourself. I've taken this class in highschool and know most of the material. He also told me that I got a question wrong bc he didn't explain it
