He is a great teacher! Funny, nice, and understanding. Take him for Interpretation of Fiction.
good teacher but a little unclear on what he wants. never give your opinion because he count it wrong. papers are slightly diffivult unless you really know what he wants out of it. you can take him but look into other options too
He doesnt really tell you what he wants done, so beware. Its alot of reading and writing, but thats what comes with a Literature class. Make sure you have time to do all the assignments bc he hates late work.
He is a cool teacher because he has a sense of humor that keeps the lecture very interesting. Beware because you have to read a lot. If you read the stories you will pass with a good grade.
He is a good professor except his class is a little boring. He really doesn't tell you what he wants and expects his students to use their imagination to their full potential. A lot of reading is done. I read three books in his class for this semester.
expect to read since you are in a lit course. he is a good teacher but he is unclear at times. you do have to attend class but the papers are not bad because they are only 500 wds except for the midterm paper and final so it is not that bad
If you take him, make sure its for Interp of Lit because if you take him for a Comp 2 class, he has NO IDEA what he's doing. He's one of the most ill-prepared professors I've ever encountered. Also, he becomes Majorly OCD about everything. He's a nice guy, though. Gotta quirky personality.
Great prof.
Im am currently taking this class for Fall 2005. His class is boring. I've caught myself falling alseep with my eyes open. Ive read 6 books so far for this class (all novels) and he is not clear about what he wants you to write about.he always expects more as if we are all english majors. he's head of something in the english department-BEWARE!
Expects a lot of writing but helps with papers. Puts quizzes for the readings. Makes us sit in a circle and discuss everything. Never lets us leave. Good teach but there might be easier.
He beats a dead horse. He never lets you go early, except for once when we took the midterm. He'll continue on and on, say the same thing in different words over and over. He's an alright teacher, but he needs to be more concise.
Very good teacher. Interesting books read for class and doesn't use the stupid book you use for ENC 1101 which is cool because you can read interesting stories and not retarded blips of nothing. Lets you have your own opinion and helps you develope it. Highly recommend.
Kinda strange guy. Really boring reading selections. Overall easy grader; if you read the books you'll do well on the weekly quizzes. Weird sense of humor. I guess it could be worse, but his class is pretty boring...
His papers are pretty creative, as for the books, you have to read it a few times in order to understand anything. the quizzes are fairly simple- usually 5 questions each worth 20 points- MAKE IT DETAILED!!! yet he drops the lowest grade. midterm is like a detailed quiz and it's kind of a repetitive class but for the most part, he's interesting.
good teacher, good books, quiz every week, not much writing...bacially easy grader
I loved this teacher!! He was funny and kept class interesting and he cares about how you are doing in the class. As long as you work hard, you will get a good grade. Some assignments were a little challenging but he helps you out with the work and ideas. I would definately recommend him :)
great teacher,go to class, read what he tells you and youll get a good grade BUT you HAVE to read the books.very funny guy!!
Attractive kinda guy if you like intelligence and odd sense of humor. Detail your answers to the max on quizzes. If he notices you put effort inside and outside of class, he's most likely going to KNOW that you are trying, therefore better the grade. I think he handed out one A last semester, and that was to a 35 yr old journalist.
GREAT PROFESSOR!!!!!Awesome teacher....always willing to help. Selection of books is very interesting...papers not bad at all....loved coming to class! A+++++ professor! Take him you won't regret it!
Great teacher I would reccomend him. You get weekly quizes that are pretty siimple as long as you read the material. You have a few papers to write but he grades fairly. If you need to take the class his is the one.
He is really helpful and wants you to do good in his class. If you communicate your concerns to him he is more then happy to help. A few of the assignments are tough, but overall a moderately easy class. Ask questions about what he wants on assignments even after he you read the written instructions. Highly recommended :)
I had Mr.Pottere for Interp of Fiction. He is a cool Professor that loves his subject even though its actually boring, which is a quality that is needed inorder to start the discussion. His work is straight forward; read the books take a quiz and maybe write a paper.I would say if you read the books in the order he assigns them this class is an "A".
Richard Potter is a GREAT professor. He makes the class interesting, and is a very nice guy. He graded the first paper hard but I think it was only to make you think harder, and after that it was smooth sailing since you knew exactly what he wanted. Take it with him, no doubt! He is an A+++ professor!
I loved his class. He gives weekly quizzes on the assigned books. If you or the majority of the class participates he jokes back and has a good sense of humor. He will always help with the papers and a really fair grader. Thankfully I didn't have anyone else for this class. Best professor I have had so far in college AND learned a lot!
Mr. Potter is a great professor. He is funny and the class is laid back. The readings he assigns are very long, but they are so interesting that you won't want to stop reading anyway. There are weekly quizzes on the reading material assigned but they are very easy. He also assigns three papers which are a big part of your final grade.
This class was pretty good. There is good class discussion and he is always there during office hours to help. Make sure you do the reading because there is a quiz on it every week. Also if you're not a strong writer see him during office hours. I would recommend him.
He is a pretty straight teacher but this dude can get crazy if you dont give him 100% undevided attention and also he tells the lamest jokes
I love Mr. Potter, he's a great teacher. There's a quiz once a week but they're pretty easy and he doesn't grade them too hard. I'd def recommend him.
One of the best professor at FAU, seriously! He is very helpful with giving you useful feedback for papers. He seems genuinely concerned with whether or not his students learn. Do yourself a favor and take his class!
Professor Potter in an overall nice guy. He gives realy feedback on papers. However there is a lot of time consuming reading i his class in which he gives quiz on the reading at least twice a week. I failed a lot of the quizzez buthe drops the lowest grade and allows you makeup for one. In the end i ended up with a surprising B-. So I recommend hi
He was awesome. Quizzes weren't too difficult as long as you completed at least some of the reading. Great feedback on papers & always really helpful, he's pretty funny too.
he is great. just go 2 him 4 help and he will grade u well. the hardest part about the class is that it was kind of boring with all the reasing. he also teaches interp of fiction.
Keeps the class laughing.
Good teacher, keeps things interesting in class. Good feedback on papers. Works with students if they're struggling. Helped me appreciate poetry!
Professor Potter is a TRUE COLLEGE Professor. He's fair, great feedback on papers - Participate and he will be more than glad to help you. A LOT of reading that YOU MUST READ but class IS DEFINITELY PASSABLE - get ready to Write & Laugh :) Good Guy, Got an A-
Potter really just wants to hear your feedback and wants to see everyone think critically. Reading is a must and there's a quiz every week but nothing too difficult. Do the readings, write the paper, and come to class ready to discuss and you'll do fine.
Great teacher, provides a very challenging but brilliant selection of books to work from. Prepare to use critical thinking; the class is NOT boring if you make any effort to actually listen. This prof. is more than happy to help his students with drafts and guiding papers. Overall a very approachable, funny and intelligent guy.
GREAT TEACHER!!! HE IS WILLING TO HELP GIVES GREAT FEED BACK LEAVES ROOM FOR ONES CREATIVE THINKING. CAN REVISE A PAPER FOR A BETTER GRADE. LOTS OF QUIZZES BUT THE ARE STRAIGHT FROM THE TEXT. FAIR GRADER. HIGH RECOMMENDED.
Mr. Potter is a great professor and I would recommend him to anyone. If you participate in the discussions you will enjoy his class and do well without much effort. I took this class in the summer and we had a quiz every class and a few papers. The quizzes were really easy as long as you read the stories you will do fine, no tricky questions. Engli
Mr. Potter is great!! He looks over and revises all papers before you have to turn in your final copy for grading. He is funny too. Take this class!!
This dude was OK. Really boring.
He is helpful. but his class is boring.
Hes a great professor, as long as you do the readings and understand then youll do fine on the quizzes and papers. Writing is honestly not my thing and i did great in this class. Got to class on tuesdays, those are usually the days he has quizzes.
Potter is extremely helpful, funny and overall makes the class enjoyable. The readings are interesting and the quizzes are fairly easy. He isn't the easiest grader on papers but nonetheless a great teacher. Received an A- Take him if you can :)
Mr. Potter was an awesome teacher! He really took the time to give relevant feed back about the papers and graded based only on things he covered. He's funny and kept the class engaged. Also, he didn't mind joking around with students and really treated us like we were peers instead of little kids. He's gives a lot of work, but it's not useless.
Great teacher. Really had a lot of fun in his class. Not the easiest grader ever, but he's always open to questions for clarity and always answers emails. If you ask he'll even look over your rough drafts early and give feedback. Will be taking him again for LIT2010.
Very good teacher. I enjoyed his class and I am taking him again for LIT2010. He is really nice and very funny. I received an A in his class and didn't find it that hard.
Mr. Potter is a good professor, however, I don't recommend taking his summer classes because the course is too compressed to get into it what affects the grades and final gpa. As with many other teachers, upon doing what he says you ll succeed but this approach limits the critical thinking what,to my mind, is the most important thing. we all evolve
Funny guy. Does care about students and writing. He gives good feedback, maybe a little too critical when it comes to grading but is fair. I hated his quizzes though. However, it made you have to keep up with the readings in the books he assigns. He's a cool guy though, I'd take him again.
Great guy. Good feedback though it can be a bit much, of course we're all not perfect in writing. But tells you what he wants and you get credit for doing what he says in your revisions. I HATED HIS QUIZZES!! you definitely had to keep up and read to pass them. They weren't hard, it makes you keep up, but they were annoying haha.
I took his Into to Fiction course. Even though some of his books were a tad boring we'd discuss them in class. He was overall very helpful, nice, and funny at times. I would recommend him. Just as long as you read you'll be fine.
HE makes classes fun, makes the assignments fun, understands that we have other classes(2 papers, 2 tests, reading). Most classes are spent in discussions. Always leave class witha smile. Easygoing, funny, and understanding. I missed about 3 weeks of class being sick and he worked with me via email(prompt responses), office hours, and in person.
Had loads of fun in this class, he made everything easier to understand and made boring books more interesting with his discussions. i would take him again.
there was a lot of reading but spread out over weekends sometimes. as long as you read you will do fine on quizzes/exams. discussions made it easier to understand the reading. a lot of group work/little worksheets that helped too..overall good choice
Potter is a great teacher! He is very funny and always finds a way to make the material relevant to the class, usually through humor. I would highly reccomend taking any of his classes you will not regret it!
Great teacher, super funny. Just make you do the readings which are interesting because he picks pretty good books. Definitely worth changing your schedule to get Potter's class.
He is a VERY good teacher! Definitely recommend him especially as a freshman! Makes your first semester less stressful and overall a good teacher! Understanding, dependable, always answers emails/office hours! Would def take another class
Great teacher. Very funny and helpful especially during office hours. Takes time to help you go over paper for corrections. I liked the books he had us read. Definitely take this with him for a better enc 1102 experience. No tests but he has quizzes on readings. 4 papers each about 3-4 pages long.
Professor Potter is one of my favorite picture. He is extremely funny and helpful. I went to him the day before my final paper was due and he was very helpful. I ended up receiving an A. Attendance is required and reading is definitely required!!
Special Topics Comm 2. Potter is awesome and he has a great sense of humor! I enjoyed him but English just isn't for me. For sure easier than regular comm 2 because you read books and he chooses funny stories. I recommend him for sure.
He is a very nice teacher for freshman students. He always tries to help and is very caring. I would recommend him to other students.
Hes nice but you pretty much have to go to class to pass. every book he tells you to buy... you will read ALL of them. He is a hard grader BUT hes really funny and he makes class enjoyable. you only have 2 major papers to write but every week you will do a quiz to make sure your keeping up with the reading.
I am glad I took Potter in Special Topics - the experience was unique and fun. I enjoyed the class and it was overall a great journey. He is an awesome teacher. The material I learned was memorable, and I would take Potter again for another experience.
He was a fantastic teacher! Wiring is not my thing and I hated it, but I'm glad I took his class. He was very helpful and he was hilarious. I would definitely take him again despite the hard work, many readings, and even hard grading. He always made me laugh too.
I just took his class. He's a phenomenal professor with a great sense of humor. Even though he assigned a lot of work and graded a tad harsh, I would love to take one of his classes again. He constantly made me laugh at his jokes and he made class fun!
Great class. Read the books. Write the papers. Boom. You get a good grade. He's a nice guy and is always willing to help out during office hours. I would take him again in a heart beat!!! One of FAU's best.
I must say, it can be a lot of work for the class. If you do the readings, this class will be easy. People struggle when they don't read. He's a bit tougher on the essays, but it is still possible to get a good grade in the class. Again, if you do the readings, you can get an A; you can't expect a good grade using only spark notes. Try shmoop.
I must say, it can be a lot of work for the class. If you do the readings, this class will be easy. People struggle when they don't read. He's a bit tougher on the essays, but it is still possible to get a good grade in the class. Again, if you do the readings, you can get an A. Don't use spark notes. Use shmoop instead when in a bind only.
The class itself takes a lot of reading. Some short novels (less than 300 pgs) and a couple short stories. I found Potter kind of annoying, because he tries to be funny, but just isn't. But he's a decent teacher. He'll help as much as you need as long as you ask. When it comes to essays you need to be a critical thinker. Read every book/story.
Potter is by far the best English professor at FAU. You must read the stories and the novels otherwise you will not pass. He will give you all the help you need to pass the class if you show the effort.
Great teacher, read the books take the easy quizzes and pass the class. Oh also write your papers with no errors and you have an A.
This course was challenging in the sense that there were various assignments with strict weekly deadlnes. There is a Final Project that is about 30% of your grade and is very tedious, extensive, challenging. Potter was often unclear about expectations and course seemed to be all over the place with little clarity and organization. Average at best.
I took him for professional writing online and it was a lot of work. Between group assignments due midweek, individual assignments due at the end of every week, and the reading it was time consuming. However, the assignments were simple if you read the book and he's a very fair grader. Extra effort will bump up your grades.
Potter is a good professor. He expects you to read the stories and there is a quiz every week on the readings. Only two papers throughout the semester, Midterm and then the Final. He is a pretty rough grader but gives chances to retake a quiz if life gets in the way. If you do not like to read, then DO NOT take him.
Assigned way too many readings for the summer term. Quizzes were fair if you read the stories. The papers were kinda hard but he gave lots of help with them. He's pretty funny guy
While the workload for the summer was intense, it overall was not that bad. Professor Potter can sometimes over use his input of trying to be funny whenever he can, he means no harm. Although his lectures are long and dragged out, he was a very helpful professor and goes out of his way to help his students.
Mr. Potter is a great professor. I took him for LIT1070 and LIT2010 and his choices of readings are great. It is not too much reading, if you're old enough to be in college you should be able to handle the amount of reading. The readings were interesting. He also is there to help you out if you need it. Fair grader as long as you do your part!
Despite my LIT2010 course being held early in the morning when the urge to nap is most fierce (especially as a CS major), Dr. Potter's manner of instruction was naturally engaging. His sincere personality and detailed feedback left me feeling like he truly cared for his students and was willing to go to great lengths to help. K.
Read and you will get an A++
Professor Potter has been the best professor I have encountered in my college carreer. He is so genuine and helpful. His class was always interesting and the readings weren't too bad. He is not an essay grader but he is always fair. I would definitely recommend him!
This was an online learning class. Professor Potter responded to questions quickly. Very helpful and fair. Excellent critique methods. In my case, peer groups were not helpful as other class members would not participate. Professor Potter worked around the ignorance of other students so that those of us who participated could work on assignments
Professor Potter provided a great learning experience. The texts and articles he choses were always interesting. He is a fair grader and as long as you try, you will do well. He does not care if you use your computer or text during class. There is a quiz nearly every week.
Potter was a wonderful professor, but he is a tough grader. An A is definitely attainable, but you must read and study the books. Reading quizzes every week and he grades tough on them. There are also two 5 page essays and make sure they are solid. All in all, Potter is quite dope.
By far one of my favorite professors I've ever had, potter is hilarious and I always looked forward to class because he made it fun. You can definitely get an A if you read as majority of your grade will depend on quizzes based off of the texts. Only two papers and they are spread out so it doesn't seem so bad. Highly suggest this class!
Professor Potter is definitely one of my favorite professors here at FAU. As long as you read the short stories he assigns, the quizzes are cake. There are only two essays that are based on the two novels you read. He's very helpful and cares about his students. 100% recommend
Potter is a very nice guy, and he really tries to keep the writing to a minimum. He gives out weekly reading assignments and then quizzes on them. Watch out, though, he only teaches the story analysis post-quiz, so you will have to sparknote it to raise your grade. There's a couple major papers; run the drafts by him beforehand and you'll be fine.
Professor Potter is not helpful. I emailed him multiple times asking for help but he had no interest in helping me. His number one priority is how long the paper is not the quality of the work. If you do not exceed the required word number length do not expect above a 60%. Next, if you do pass the length test he is an extremely tough grader. AVOID!
Papers are graded much to difficult.
Yes there was a lot of material to read, but he is capable of understanding a student's full schedule when it comes to the material.. He would take time to give you good feedback on your papers and prepare you for the paper's topic. If you were confused about the readings or the papers he would take the time to answer your questions thoroughly.
4 reading assignments; Not difficult, relevant to today's issues. 4 papers; 700 to 2000 words per paper as you go on they get higher. Turn in the draft paper, gives great advice on how to proceed, what to take out/add. Not difficult to reach the words required, there is so much to write from the readings. 85% average on each paper written. Take him
Would definitely take Potter again. 3 textbooks required, and quizzes on them every class. Only 2 papers on said textbooks but he takes them very seriously, so you have to work to get an A. No peer reviews and minimal group work. Talks for most of the class, but he's funny so that makes up for it. Just show up and do the readings.
This professor annoyed me so much, and I am a student who puts a lot of effort in class. Hard work does not scare me easily. He is a very subjective grader, and never gives meaningful feedback. He simply answers your question with another question. There are quizzes after the readings, but you only find out what they are about after you start them.
Very nice professor, would definitely recommend him. You do have to put in your fair share of work, but he is always open to questions before his quizzes and although not the easiest grader for papers he is willing to help you and includes many office hours prior to the due date. A whole lot of reading and quizzes but as long as you read are easy.
Super fun, not a difficult grader and gives good feedback. I would recommend his class!!
Great class! He is very nice and gives good feedback. Just show up to class and do the reading and you shouldn't have a problem!
He talks way too much, to the point where you don't listen anymore cause you don't even know what he's speaking about anymore. He grades papers based on HIS way of writing, an opinion, so just know that. He's okay, I hope I don't have to take him again. He's not the worst though. He does too much over participation its worth too much.
Hes a really easy teacher and his essays are always extremely simple. Show up to class bc if you dont he takes mad points off. Just try to act engaged and be opinionated on your essays and your good.
He's definitely great professor! I would take him again for sure :) Novels read are a lot of interpretation and thinking farther than the words but he and the class help break it down. 4 essays for the semester and due to the hurricane class was sped up in the beginning but hopefully for you it isn't lol!
I took ENC1102 online with Potter and he was definitely a tough grader (DONT go under the word count requirement, he gave me a C on an essay for it), but the work isnt super hard. Only 4 essays, discussion posts/replies due most weeks, and peer reviews; (no tests/final). Just make sure to read the readings and put effort into your essays.
Professor Potter is really nice but this class isn't a joke! It is a lot of work for an elective. We read about 4 large novels during the semester and had essay quizzes once a week, which he grades rigorously. We also had two papers. I am typically a really good writer, however, he doesn't give A's on papers easily, it was tons of work to get an A.
He's okay but nothing great. There's a lot of reading as well as group work. Get ready to type a lot of responses
Nice professor but every week there are timed essay quizzes. All the grades are very subjective, reading materials are kinda boring but if you email him about any issue he's very receptive.
Extremely tough grader, barely any feedback on essays, gives bad grades even when you do the essay exactly how the rubric says to. Almost impossible to get above a B on an essay. There isn't that much work to do, 4 essays and 4 quizzes and discussions.
I liked this class because its more specified than a traditional ENC1101/2 class. the "textbooks" were non-fiction novels and were a great read honestly. There are 4 total papers and are very doable even w/o reading. There is a quiz and discussion every week, but he is very understanding and will work with you if there is a situation.
Amazing professor, love going to class thanks to him. Lots of reading but it is definitely worth it!
"He talks way too much, to the point where you don't listen anymore cause you don't even know what he's speaking about anymore. He grades papers based on HIS way of writing, an opinion, so just know that." This review described it perfectly
really tough grader. I really had to work for an A and not many people in my class even got there. gives more papers than regular enc professors. no final. no extra credit. really nice but doesn't really reply to emails and is just a tough professor overall and I don't want to go through the stress of that class again.
Not a hard class IF you participate and read the assignments. No extra credit, but is available outside class, usually via email.
You have to work for your grade. You have to really read the stories to understand the quiz questions; quizzes are usually short answers but there are some multiple choice. Participation matters. There are only two papers. He gives great feedback, so really ask him what he thinks in order to make a good grade.
Ok the class itself is very easy. You can just figure everything out because his quizzes arent that difficult. Theres also no textbook requirement. But hes not the best professor. He talks way too much and goes on long tangents before he actually teaches. Its also really hard to concentrate because his voice is so monotone.
Great professor who cares about his students and makes sure they succeed with a good grade. Gives amazing feedback on all papers and their rough drafts as well as their assignments. Makes assignments very clear and lenient in terms of grading. As long as you read and pay attention for the most part you will pass with flying colors. Love this prof
I took Professor Potter two semesters in a row for 1101 and 1102. He was very kind and wanted his students to succeed. He will work with you to improve your writing and provides ample detailed feedback for your benefit. Most of the class was based on papers and short quizzes on the readings. Put in work and you will love this class and professor!
You want this professor. Potter recognizes talent when he sees it. If you are a good writer, you will pass this class. Even when he disagrees with you, he grades your papers fairly. You can give him a purely political paper and he will grade it fairly. Attendance is required, but the only downside is the rambling. He is among FAU's best teachers.
Professor Potter is a decent professor. The downside of this class is that there is a lot of reading. Make sure that you read thoroughly because most of his quizzes are short answers. He does do some multiple choice quizzes but not a lot so be prepared before taking those short-answer quizzes. There are also two papers that are 30% of your grade.
AH Richard Potter, so many good things to say in so little word count. Potter was a hilarious professor and a good one. He was very active in our discussion boards and gave great feedback on our 2 papers. His quizzes were always super easy. You have to be a bit more brainy for the written quizzes though, but they were otherwise easy. 10/10 class!
Loved Professor Potter. I took him for ENC 1101 and was by far my favourite class at FAU. His topics were really interesting for essays and he was very relaxed and understanding with late assignments. 10/10.
Pretty easy class other than a lot of reading! Discussion posts/quiz weekly are easy. 3 books, 3 papers, & quizzes on them were not horrible but definitely challenging. Not the worst choice for a WAC. The short stories in between books are boring/useless. Focus on/actually read the books, you'll do fine. His feedback isn't the best so get in a gc.
He was an amazing professor to have. I had him for my ENC 1101 class and without a doubt, he was one of my best teachers I have had. His essay topics were fun and he was just an overall good professor. The only thing I would recommend for his class is to do the readings and you would be fine. 10/10 will recommend him to anyone.
Potter is one of the funniest professors I've ever had. He is very sarcastic and can make anyone laugh. He is a great teacher and gives intriguing readings that pick at your brain and your morals. Great class, great teacher.
Such a great professor. Funny and easy to communicate with. There were 4 essays throughout the class but he broke them up into easy small sections. Will work with you to get your grade up if need be. Easy grader. Attendance not mandatory but I would recommend it to pass the class.
He was awesome, super funny, and very understanding when it came to late work.
DO NOT take this professor, does not allow enough time to read a novel and write an essay. He thinks this is the only class you have
I took Mr. Potter during the Summer A term. Fairly straightforward class. 12 quizzes (with 30 minute time limits) based on specific short stories and book chapters. 1 midterm paper and 1 final paper. His feedback was pretty good. Just read what you have to and keep up to date and you'll be fine; the readings are fairly intriguing as well imo.
Great Professor, funny and actually cares about his students success. Go to class, pay attention, and complete the assignments on time and you will get a good grade in this class.
No homework, just too many readings, essays, drafts, and peer reviews. Listen to his opinion on what u should include, include it, and you'll be solid. He grades on his way of writing. Readings are interesting. Go to class, do your work, and you'll be fine. Quiz for every reading but very short, and they only test that you actually read it.
Professor Potter is very kind and funny, my section had 5 papers in total. He shows you what to include and gives detailed instructions
Dr. Potter is a great guy, but the class wasn't as easy as I was expecting based on other reviews. I didn't feel like there were super clear expectations for the 5 essays. Little to no feedback is given. Go to his office hours so he can tell you what he wants on your paper. Workload isn't overwhelming, but stressful wanting to do well with no help.
he's fun, would take again
Great professor!! The quizzes are relatively easy if you do the reading that is assigned.
