Best Math teacher ever. Not sure the deal with the last comment, but he is very helpful, very clear, and very easy going. He shows you other ways that are much easier and is always helpful. If you attend class and listen, you will get an A for sure.

Pretty easy teacher as long as you stay focused & keep up in class. Teaches very quickly, but allows questions to make sure you get the material. Available to help after class too. Easy homework assignments & gives out reviews (even for final) are pretty much exactly like the test. He also does a fun little card trick at the beginning of the week

Excellent calculus teacher. He really wants his students to understand the subject. Go to all classes, do your homework, and you'll get an A.

EZiest stats prof ever. Just copy his lec notes, study & do hw wknd before test & u'll do fine. I seriously don't see how u can't get an A. He goes over all the hw in class so u can literally just copy it all w/o doing it. At start of week he does a card trick so u can come in 10min late & be fine. Con- Must buy mathlab for useless online quizzes.

for college Algebra,he does not allow calculators but he will teach u how to solve math without a calculator. He makes everything easy! Take him if u really want to learn math. Do ur homework, webAsign, reviews and of course, you have to study to make an A!

I actually looked forward to seeing and learning what Mr Prather had to teach. I enjoyed his teaching techniques and rhythm of his class. You knew what was going to happen in every class (except with new notes and a new chapter). The card tricks he does are fun, and always made me laugh. PLUS, he is super adorable and hot in his own way. :)

Great professor. Very clear and understandable. Easiest class ever. You will need to purchase MyMathLab stuff for online homework. Book is not required because there is an online book. Exams are exactly like reviews. He goes over all homework which he takes up before the test. Was a breeze.

Really liked him, tho he was distant. A time or two he talked about infinity n universe n stuff – wish he told us more of what he knows, bc I like listenin to somethin like that. Great teacher, gives you all the material you need to know, very thorough. 5 tests.You must study for the test in order to get a 90-100.All of my tests I received an A. Impossible to fail. There is also extra credit on the test. Attendance not mandatory, but if your final grade is 89.5, he will bump it to a 90, if you've gone to 95% of his classes.

YO MR. PRATHER IS THE MAN he has such a passion for math and can legitimately solve/explain any problem you throw at him.....and will actually take the time to make sure YOU fully understand it. He is so helpful and delightfully nerdy and really made me love calculus (who knew that was even possible) 10/10 please take his class

great teacher be prepared to take notes super fast but he goes over the material and explains everything clearly. he comes into class 30min before to help students with any questions. if you do your homework come into class you will pass his class .

I took his MATH 1314 class for Spring 2015. He was the most amazing professor ever. Very responsible, OCD - which is good for math. He's very sweet and doesn't make anyone feel stupid for not too smart question, giving his best. Starts his class with math tricks. I'll miss him. Best math professor I've ever had. TAKE HIM!!!!!!

Mr. Prather is a really good teacher. He teaches in a way that makes it easy to learn the material. I took Pre-Cal during the summer and when it was test day the first half of the class he went over the review and the other half we took the test. I would definitely take a class with him again.

I took him for summer 5 week pre-cal. Syllabus is very clear. Review is given prior to each exam. Master the reviews and take notes in class and you will do fine on the exams. Homework is in my math lab. There is no excuse for low home work grades because he literally reviews each type of problem during the lecture. He gives math tips that help.

He is so so so awesome! Took him for college alebra spring 2015 and he explains things in a way that makes it so easy. You have to be listening the whole time so you wont miss anything he says because he goes fast but as someone who is terrible at math, I loved him!!!

Mr Prather is one of the best Math professors I have had so far in HCC. His lectures are not boring. He gives examples on how to do every problem which helps for the homework on my math lab. His reviews before every exam and his reviews are exactly like his exams. I cannot wait to take him again. There is no reason to fail his class..

Professor Prather is a solid choice. He is a good teacher that breaks down mathematical concepts into bits that are digestible to even those who are terrible at math. Mr. Prather is awesome! He really knows what he he is doing and explains everything so deeply that even a 3rd grader could understand the concept. His tests include extra credit. He is hilarious and does card tricks everyday, I would definitely take him again. Best teacher out there.

After 5 years without taking any math classes i took him for Trig in Fall 2015 and i ended up with a B. I am now currently taking him for Pre-Cal and so far a have a B for my class average. Do all your MyMathLab hw, practice exams on MyMathLAb which are just like the real exams and you'll do well. I'll be looking out for him for Calculus 1 !!!!

straight to the point, didnt even use textbook, wont need it. uses hw questions to teach on mathlab, and you go do the 10 questions for hw. nice, understanding, dont skip you miss out alot, helps after in his office as well. always replies fast for emails. make friends to study js, it helps 10x over. i suck at math but made A's on tests. good prof.

Although, I did not do too great on my Stat class I did learn a lot and enough from the professor. His class is easy to do and I would recommend it for everyone. Just listen and pay attention. He shows you step by step process. This was probably my best math professor I have ever taken throughout my college.

i wished the rest of professors were organized and good as much as him, literally everything is organized in his class, test dates, quizzes etc.. he loves what he's doing so he teaches it with heart, if you pay attention in class you realize that he tries to show you a different point of view, he's great i highly recommend him.

I wish I could take Professor Prather for EVERY class in college! He actually cares about his students and sets up everyone up for success. If you do not pass his classes it is because of your own doing. He makes it a point to have office hours and to help you and always responds right away to emails. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Amazing professor. I got plane trig with him and it was great. you do the homework and you get an A in each test and quiz. 4 quizzes and 4 exams +1 final. a very good teacher and a good man. not much extra credit, maybe 1 or 2 at the end if you attended all his classes.

This guy is excellent. Hes straight forward and very clear. His lectures are pretty much the maymathlab homeworks which is good because he shows you how to do them. There is quizzes and exams. He grades based on your work and if you know what youre doing. His exams are great and exactly what the section is about. :) taking him again for stats

He is very clear on his grading criteria, explains concepts by relating to real-life. Its always a quiz before the test so you can be prepared and see what you need to work on. As long as you do the connectmath homework & reviews and do pretty good on tests. You will receive a good grade.

A really great guy, but there's no way I'll pass. Will stay until drop date and then take again. If he's reading, I'd recommend he speak more slowly, which I know is impossible, given the amount of material he has to cover. Rock, meet hard place. What are the odds of THAT? :) Pretty high in the real world.

As a liberal arts major, math is not my strong suit. But Prather makes it less boring and easier to understand. Definitely recommend taking him if available, you won't regret it! Homework is done online, and it's divided into sections each due before the tests. As long as you show up and take notes, you'll be good to pass!

Honestly, Richard Prather is the best and good professor i have ever had in my math class. I am not good in math, but i do homework every session after class or the day after and everything is clear about the materials or tests. he has good reviews before every test and make sure do not miss any of his class because you will learn much about math.

Professor Prather was literally the best professor ever! I took him in the summer, and I have never learned so much in 5 weeks. He is such a sweet person and will help anyone who tries. Attendance isnt mandatory, but it will help you in the long run. If you are near a grade you need, attendance will help him determine if he should bump you up.

I took statistics w him. I'm sure he is the one of best teacher at HCC. He's very very organized which is I really like it. His tests are super easy as long as you take notes in class. Just don't miss classes. and take notes what he writes on the board then you'll get A. If you have questions, just ask him. He'll help you !

The Professor knows what he is teaching which is the only good thing about this class. He doesn't drop your lowest exam scores. He deducts points off your exams for the slightest mistake. 4 quizzes, 4 exams all count towards your final grade. if you are good in Math then take him if NOT look for some other professor.

I would have to say one of the best professors at HCC. Doesn't mind repeating concepts, will answers questions delightfully but usually not needed because he goes over everything step by step. HW and test reviews are on connect, unlimited attempts allowed for the highest grade possible. As long as you take notes and study, you will be great!

The only regret I have is taking the class during summer when a lot is covered in a week and it's difficult to keep up if you are bad at math.

By far one of the best prof. at HCC. As long as you attend class and do the online homework, there is no reason you should fail this class. He is easily accessible and is more than willing to answer questions in or outside of class. He explains every concept thoroughly and is extremely approachable.

This was probably one of the most easiest math classes Ive ever taken. This class consists of quizzes and exams. The hw is on connect math and he goes through every single problem during class so attendance matters. You will need to purchase a graphing calculator to pass this class. I highly recommend this class if you need credit.

Take this class. Dont miss class and you will pass. I took statistics during the spring and this profesor made it so easy to understand the problems. If you have the opportunity to, TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. He is so easy going, his lectures are actually helpful. He answers any questions you have, answers emails in 24 hrs. Only reason why I got a low grade is bc I slacked off. I could have a gotten easily a B if i stayed on top of it-- and math is not my best subject. 10/10 def recommend.

This professor wasn't too bad; he was nice and actually taught. All we did was connect math problems, but towards the end, he played us with a lockdown browser with webcam, but we did all our other tests on connect math so it was different for the final exam and really difficult because of the format. Other than that it was good.

He is good and nice teacher.I agree he changed everything at end. Lot of our class failed or didnt do great. I just wished he could have save us and help us get better by providing us extra credit or retake at test, drop lowest test or replace our lowest grade with the highest grade from other test. ConnectMath was ok but not the best.

This is literally one of the best professor I ever had, you actually learn things in this class even if you don't try to. He doesn't give you a lot of homework and actually cares about your grade. You should really consider taking this professor's class, he is a great professor.

Overall hes a great professor. I liked how he answered your questions during lecture and responded to emails within 24 hours. The reviews he had for 3 of his tests were straightforward, and didnt require lockdown browser and a webcam. The final on the other hand required it, and was completely different from the review he had, and it was hard.

He's nice and amazing. Open note quizzes and tests. I suck at math so I got a C. No lockdown browser for the tests (which were okay, it was Connect Math). The final was lockdown on Canvas, but open notes. 76 on the final, wording was very tough and confusing, 25 questions. No extra credit whatsoever, like don't even bring it up. Easy class, ok work

Prof Prather is great. He makes things easy to understand and has lots of tricks for remembering formulas and more. Grading is clear - you do tests and homework that are auto-graded. No extra credit/dropped grades. Good for those with test anxiety because he sets final to lowest weight they allow (25%) and only uses Respondus when required to.

Trigo was ok for online class in my opinion, and probably could have been harder in person. Because he mentioned that in person he sees how you show your work on paper when you take test. He posts video class to watch for each problem of the homework + review tests. I recommend him, but homework is a bit of time consuming if you want to practice.

Great professor! Watching his pre recorded lectures were a real gem. I'm aware other math professors don't do that. So if you have him online anytime you are lucky. Makes it very easy to understand complex problems. Will take him for Precal.

I took him for a mini summer course for Statistics. This class was pretty difficult especially if you are bad at math. Test #1 & the final are lock browser and cam. Test #2 & #3 are open note. The final exam is horrendous. Pretty much nothing like the review and the wording is crazy hard. I would not take him again just because of his tests.

Okay. So if you listen to his lectures, you will do well. Trying to follow along with just the book makes it harder. His lectures are good. I would literally take the stats class from him again. His grading is easy to understand. Good professor all around

One of the best professors I have taken from! He is very organized, timely, and very clear in his lectures. As long as you follow exactly what he says/recommends throughout the course and put in the work you can succeed with an A or B. If you are taking "online anytime" it is helpful to do the homework as you watch each lecture!

I took Professor Prather in Spring 2021 for Pre-Cal, and he made Pre-Cal simple to understand. His lectures are clear and easy to understand and you can follow along with him when doing the HW. Also, take notes during his lectures, it'll be useful for studying for the tests. This is not a class where you will have to learn on your own! Take him!

Professor Prather is one of the better Math teachers Ive gotten. 10/10, enjoyed him. Attempts to help you understand the material throughly, lectures are detailed onlined and explains what he is looking for, as well as common mistakes people make as a bonus. Exams are straight forward and just like the homework/quiz question he makes you do.

AMAZING professor. I am not great at math but I found his class very easy to understand. Attend class, listen carefully and you will be fine. He does not set tricky questions, so fear not. This class was without doubt, one of the hardest classes I have had to take. He made my experience in Stat so much better. He gives instructional videos on homework assignments. The tests & quizzes are timed. Allowed to use a graphing calculator. Highly recommend getting one for this class! He is caring & responds to canvas inbox messages quickly!

I was never an A math student but professor Richard made it so simple and easy. Be aware, there are many assignments needed to be done throughout the week and on the weekends. However, if you give it time to study, you will do great. His classes consist of solving questions where he explains the topics. His quizzes are just a little tricky.

Hate math but stats was amazing!!!!!

Professor Prather is such a good professor. His lectures are easy to understand and he will answer any questions. He teaches you how to use a graphing calculator and shortcuts. Homework assignments are on ALEKS, 4 exams and 4 quizzes (on paper), and there is a discussion after each unit exam. A TI-83 or TI-84 calculator is recommended.

Best math teacher I have taken so far. He will ask you random questions in class and if you answer them and participate, at the end of the semester he will round ur grade up since he doesn't drop a test. He knows what hes doing however and teachers very well, the test are half multiple choice and half free response, if u at least try ull get credit

Had this professor in fall 2024. His lectures are very well explained. The tests are half multiple choice half open ended, and he gives partial credit as well. The reviews help a lot for the tests since they are similar.

I took Professor Prather Spring 2025 and I love how he makes his lectures very clear! I extremely recommend to pay attention to his lectures! I would also recommend using his office hours if you have any questions or doubts of questions in the homework. I myself do struggle with math but Professor Prather is always to help!!

I feel like he is a good professor if you are strong in math. However I am not the best at math so it took me a while to get the material. I'll say maybe don't take this class if you already have a lot you are doing. He does not give extra credit. His reviews are similar to his test.

He is the best Math teacher that I've ever taken. However, the pace is fast. I consider myself good at Math so I can keep up with the pace (and I dont skip any days). If you are interested in Math, take him!

Very easy class, homework was the main focus, all reviews (including final) were enough to pass the class, if you studied, you passed. Don't hesitate with this professor, although he doesn't give extra credit, he still does bonus questions and makes up for it in other ways.

he's kind and a good teacher and patient. he answers questions too. I wish the discussion posts weren't so strict on grammar, but that's easy to overlook when he's a professor who's very intentional and gives feedback. no extra credit but bonus(not easy) questions on tests. the multiple choice is about 4 pts each so be very careful so you dont fail

He is definitely one of the best math professors I have ever had. He is very clear on what he teaches. His homework corresponds to what he teaches and tests over. Also, it is a manageable amount considering this is a summer course. He makes himself available during office hours and wants to help. He truly loves math and teaching.

Professor Prather is the first math teacher who made me enjoy the subject. His lessons are clear and organized. No extra credit, but some tests have bonus questions. If you try, you'll love math more. I hope to take MATH 1325 with him. Highly recommended!

One of the best teachers I've ever had! All of his lectures and homework are relevant to the tests he assigns. He's very clear on what will be assigned in the tests. He's always quick to offer help if he notices you drowning.

One of the best math professors at HCC, genuinely. Gives deep explanations to questions without making you feel bad for asking. Quick responses to emails and messages. Extremely organized and manageable course work with very clear grading criteria. 10/10

Professor Prather's class is heavily influenced by ALEKS, which is where your homework will be assigned. Homework/quizzes are worth 5% and the test are worth 65% of your grade combined. Test/quizzes are half free response and half multiple choice. I'm terrible at math so I didn't do well, but he is overall really nice and responds quickly.

Even if you aren't good at math he is very meticulous in explaining everything. He goes over EVERY question on every homework, review and even the quizzes and tests after he grades them. There isn't a single assignment you do that he hasn't already explained in detail for you. Still confused? Email him! He's very kind. Also work load isn't heavy.
