Helpful and funny professor. Read the assigned pages in the book before class.
Great Professor, gives good lectures and incorporates some humor into them. Just do assigned reading and follow syllabus and you can get an A.
He is very helpfull and cool. he tells alot of stories and makes the class very interisting. he doesnt have alot of quizes but does have class discussion alot.
A truly fun and easy class. This guy was AMAZING. I pretty much fell in love. He tries really hard to connect with everyone. Only one bad thing: he has had a million things go wrong with him and he talks about almost dying about 30 different times. WOW.
His class is very easy. I think i may have read 10 pages throughout the entire semester. He gives you study guides and as long as you do the study guides before the test you should ace it. He also uses a ton of puns..we tried to keep track one day but decided to stop counting after 15 in one day!
Prof Rawls is very knowledgeable, and he makes learning fun. It seems like his class is easy, but he makes you work your fanny off to get a high grade. Hope I can take him again.
Great freshman teacher!!! I feel like Rawls can be very funny but moody sometimes. He has sorta corny liberal jokes, I think if you are looking for an easy class or your new to college this is the class for you. I haven't opened my textbook once and I have at mid-term an A! He is a powerpoint teacher and just do the study guide of the syllabus!
He's funny! Def a good freshman class teacher or easy class! I don't see why anyone would have a problem with him. He gets back things in a timely manner too! He wants to work with and is very understanding!
Rawls is the bomb! Only three test and he gives the questions beforehand. Do the review for each test and you'll pass.
Very odd guy, but he makes up for it by trying to be funny ,very good teacher, very easy class... anyone can get an A. Read the book and got over the notes before the exam. He drops the lowest quiz grade. Make sure you do the extra credit
Western Civ is really cool. I've never read so many great books in one semester. Lots of reading - and the tests are not easy - but you will be rewarded if you follow the study guide.
Dr. Rawls is the man. He's a funny and good guy. Read what he assigns and use the study guide, and then the tests won't be difficult. He thinks public speaking is very important.
Professor Rawls is my FAVORITE professor. I hate history, and he made it very fun and kept me awake (which is surprising since I had him at 8 in the morning). Very funny too. I would refer him to anyone for history. He has study guides for each of the exams on his syllabus and everything thats on the test is on the syllabus. Easy A. TAKE HIM! :)
AMAZING! very helpful, down to earth, easy to talk to. He def. keeps class interesting. Very clear about what he expects from you. Just listen to the lectures and really go over your study guides for the tests (the test ques. come directly from the study guides!) and you will walk away with an A! Dont choose any other History Professor!
Awesome Teacher! Funny and loves to help!!!
Dude kept teaching even with half his arm cut off. Must be physically tough. Pay attention in class, follow the study guide. You will never have more fun learning. A must take
I have really enjoyed Dr. Rawls's class this semester. He is funny and likes to tell corny jokes. Very helpful, all you have to do is ask. He gives you a study guide that is incorporated into the syllabus. Use it for the tests and you will do fine.
Lectures are great, reading is just about right, and Dr. Rawls is mega helpful. Just don't wait until the last minute to get help. Most lectures are posted on line and the syllabus already has the study guide. Great Prof. Take no one else for 2111, if you can get his class before sections close
Best history teacher you can ever have....Gives study guids for test and the test are easy.....he is the best!!!!
Great World Civ teacher. Took class to get units out of the way, but left wanting to be a major. The stuff on myths & how ancients thought was great. Do readings, use the study guides (they're your friends), and go to class. Thinks oral AND written assignments are needed.
Professor Rawls is an amazing teacher. I actually enjoyed going to his 8am class. He is always cracking jokes and is so personable. He gives study guides to every exam and is willing to help with any question you have.
Dr. Rawls, is AMAZING!!! I wasn't really into history that much until I took his class. He is so helpful and understanding. I just wished he taught 2112. Anyone not very good in history please take this class, b/c Dr. Rawls will really get you interested in history. He has such a wonderful sense of humor so it makes class go faster.
Although the reading level is pretty high for an upper level class, it was all very interesting. Dr. Rawls is knowledgeable, helpful, and has a great sense of humor. His talking about the books helped me to see a lot that I wouldn't have otherwise seen. Def take his course on Greece if you need an upper level history class.
Professor Rawls is awesome! If your looking for a super easy class then this may not be it but it is fun!One major paper, a couple powerpoint presentation, quizzes and tests but he makes sure to keep things interesting and he even tells you when pop quizzes will be administered. Overall, take this class hes a great teacher who knows his stuff!
Dr. Rawls is a really fun guy. This was one of my most enjoyable classes this term and easiest. The syllabus provides an awesome study guide. You can get by without actively reading the textbook, but it would be nice if you do so you can participate in class. The oral and written assignments were relatively easy if you're used to writing 5pg papers
A lot of reading, but study guides are helpful. This class should be a must for all Poly Sci majors.
He is a good professor. Class was easy and fun and he made a lot of the students laugh. Enjoyable class and the works was easy.
Rawls is a great professor. His lectures are clear, informative, and engaging. He prepares you well for his tests; just follow the study guide and you'll do great.
Great professor! You will not regret taking Dr. Rawls. It will not be an easy A. You will do fine if you study the syllabus, do the readings, and attend class. His test are fair with no surprises.
Dr. Rawls is an amazing professor to say the least! He is meant to teach and you are sure to learn a lot in any of his classes. He knows his stuff and he is willing to help at any given time. Be prepared to learn a lot, read read read! He wants to engage his students in lecture so be sure to read and get involved! Take his classes, YOU WILL LOVE IT
I have had Rawls a couple times, and i love his classes and the content! he loves what he does and is willing to help when you need it. his powerpoints are amazing! there is a lot of reading, but what you learn out of them is awesome!! he really makes learning fun! i would take him again, but his classes fill up too soon!!! maybe next time !!
All I can say is wow! The reading is heavy but his enthusiasm for the class rubs off. He's very helpful, which is good because there's a lot of reading, writing, and speeches to do.
Dr. Rawls is AWESOME! Lots of reading, but very interesting and worthwhile. He makes Western Civilization fun! He connects the dots by having you read literature that relates to the time periods. I would definitely take him again!
Dr. R is awesome! Hes super funny & helpful. I have to admit that Im not a huge fan of this class simply because of the subject material & the fact that theres a TON of reading but Dr. R tries to make it interesting, hes funny, and super helpful. AWESOME TEACHER but dont take the class if you dont have a lot of extra time to read (like 5 books)
Best History teacher ever. I had no interest in Ancient History before this, and he made it very enjoyable. Only downside would be a lot of reading along with reading quizzes. (total of 6 textbooks for me!) But overall, you'd be missing out if you didn't take him.
Dr Rawls is AMAZING professor! Organized, fast at returning grades and papers with helpful feedback. Many quizes (drops 2), three tests (no cumulative final just tests as he goes) term paper easy and EC opportunities! I learned so much and enjoyed the presentations! You will need to read! Do the work and it is an easy A
Very cool professor. He uses puns literally ever other sentence which saves you from the boredom of history. You need to read but easy for the most part, I would recommend.
THE MOST AMAZING PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD (in any subject)- the passion he has for history exuberates from him-all professor should strive to be as good as he was in their given fields. Every class is fun and the work is not hard at all.
His teaching style is a little confusing but he is nice.
He's super fast at returning grades, and he gives helpful comments on papers and speeches. Follow syllabus and rubrics for papers. Hint: heavy reading & he makes you do it. But, the reward is he drops lowest reading quiz grade!
Class was OK.
Dr. Rawls is a superb instructor. There is a TON of reading and you'll have to stay on your toes if you want to get a decent grade. Other than the workload, he's an awesome guy who makes classes fun and interesting.
Hard class. Ton of reading! He is OK instructor.
Too much work.
My comments are for anyone taking 3000 level summer courses. They are short and are a lot of work. You cannot goof off. But, prof. Rawls kept the work levels reasonable, he spaced out the assignments, and he was helpful, especially with writing skills. Best thing are his puns, but you have to encourage them to come out!
Rawls is da Bomb!
Tests are tough!
5 books, 6 quizzes, 3 tests, two 4-5 pages paper, plus final paper. Too much work.
says puns a lot, would take class again.
I was initially bummed about having to take Western Civilization, but Dr. Rawls is awesome. Be prepared to read, however, some of the books are interesting. Didn't personally use or read the class textbook and I was fine. Tests aren't that hard if you study. :)
Gives good feedback. No extra credit, no clear grading criteria. Would not take again.
Hilarious. Not helpful.
Dr. Rawls is the best professor I've taken here. His lectures are very enthused, and engaging. He has a clear grading scale. If you read the books and pay some attention, you'll be on your way to a perfect score. He's extreamly helpful, and understandable. Very funny guy! I had a great experience out of a class I wasn't interested in from the start
Makes class interesting. Always full of puns, even if some students don't get them. Has 7 reading quizzes but drops 2 of them. Splits the information into 3 sections and each section has a test, not cumulative.
Dr. Rawls is pretty awesome, I enjoyed his class. He is always enthusiastic about the material and encourages participation. Overall he is easygoing and doesn't give difficult tests, just make sure you read the assigned readings! Would take again.
Tests are tough!Get ready to read.
Fun class. A lot of reading and quizzes.
Dr. Rawls is an amazing and lovable teacher. Watch out when you are taking first attendance, as he will take every chance to pop a pun into his lecture. Sometimes funny, sometimes a little annoying, but he means well in every respect. He is merciful in grading, provided that you are doing your part as well.
Rawls says a pun after every point he makes during his lectures. Makes lectures a lot more fun and they are really helpful as well. Very funny and if you read the textbook, quizzes are easy. Only 7 quizzes and eh drops the lowest 2. Study guides for tests (only 3 tests) are built into the syllabus and if you go by them, you're guaranteed to pass.
Pay attention to the course outline he gives out at start of first class. It has everything you need to know, including everything that will be on the exams for the whole semester! Pay attention, come to class, take speech and paper seriously, and you will do well. He's nice & will help you if you ask for it.
Dr. Rawls is a fantastic professor who honestly cares about student success. He frequently pauses during lectures to make sure everyone understands the material, and he takes the time to leave careful feedback on exams and papers. But beware: he is prone to drop a pun every other sentence.
Professor Rawls is an incredible teacher, and super punny! Never a dull moment in class. I expect to earn a B+ in this class but hoping to pull an A. Very helpful. You will use the texts required, not terribly heavy reading but definitely do the reading & use syllabus to study for test. Don't be lazy, and you will enjoy!
All around amazing teacher
Nice guy. His class is fairly easy and he constantly makes ridiculous puns.
This man has several life stories, I initially thought I hated but he makes them fun. Very interactive lectures and funny guy. If you show any interest at all in what he has to say, he will work with you to make sure you understand it all. Best professor I've had.
It was a summer school class, and so things moved quickly. However, he kept the reading levels to important stuff. I actually liked what I read. He's a funny man with lots of puns, which makes class move. If you attend and if you read, you will do fine.
Dr. Rawls is one of the sweetest professors I've had. He is very caring and understanding. You can talk to him and he'll really listen. He tries to help students earn a good grade; all you have to do is put in some effort. My only negative criticism would be he tells puns too often, but it is very charming as well.
He is a cool guy, make sure your actually interested in the content or else the class will be very boring to you. He tells you exactly what is on the test so just read the books for the quizzes and prepare ahead for test and you will be fine.
So there is A LOT of reading, but overall there is not much to not like. Everything is on the syllabus and goes in that order (unless he is ill, bc he is prone to medical anything). I feel like for myself, missing class was hard to catch up on, but ALL of his power point are online. It helps, but you miss the in depth in class. 10/10 recommend.
Dr. Rawls is a great teacher, definitely my favorite so far at GGC. His lectures are engaging and his puns are very funny. He's a really smart guy and a polyglot. Attendance is graded but if you skip a few classes you should be okay. As long as you study and show up you should do fine. Would definitely recommend him.
Dr. Rawls is a great guy and makes lectures fun. I had him for world religion, few exams that he preps you for ahead of time. Lots of reading, but you can get away with only reading the material you are quizzed over. One presentation and paper as well. He's not a tough grader and is very willing to help you if you need it. Overall an easy A.
corniest jokes I've ever heard in my life that actually made me laugh. I used to absolutely hate history classes because I usually found them really boring, but dr rawls made lectures interesting. tests aren't difficult but definitely require a reasonable amount of studying to pass
The class was a hybrid class. Professor Rawls is a really awesome professor. He's very passionate about the subject and will make sure you know the material. He likes when students participate and will call on you to participate in class but he isn't annoying about it. Take him if you can!
Professor Rawls makes the class fun and interesting. He is SUPER nice. Don't get me wrong there is work, but it isn't that difficult. Make sure to watch the videos and you will be fine, plus he is a great teacher, and any issues or concerns he will address and handle. He definitely cares and enjoys teaching this subject.
Mr Rawls is an amazing professor. He is so funny and loves puns. The class is fairly easy and his power points are great study tools. Hes extremely caring and gives great feedback on assignments. You can tell he is passionate about teaching. Overall one of the best professors at GGC
Dr. Rawls is a mixed bag to me. He teaches the material well and is easy to understand. However, his jokes get old and he tends to go off topic from something he was already off topic on. He talks way too much about unnecessary things. If you like getting straight to the point when you learn, maybe avoid Dr. Rawls.
A fantastic professor, I think he even won teacher of the year when I had him! Would definitely recommend and take again. I learned a lot of interesting info from him and this class
I'm actually taking his religion class, but it's not listed here. I realize professor Rawls might not be for everyone. He talks a lot, but I think his stories and lectures are always interesting. He does assign readings from the textbook as well as a shorter version of the Ramayana and Gilgamesh. Overall though, it's always a joy going to class.
I took him for rels 1100. Mr. Rawls was a good teacher.. even though he does talk a lot and get off topics sometimes.. his class was quiet easy.
I'm an English major but am so happy I took the class. Prof Rawls had the right mix daily in class assignments. He also told us that he was mixing up the types of sources coming from Rome. I really liked and would have never guessed that Rome's histories, court speeches, poetry, biography, and so on, could really be that awesome!
Professor Rawls was a great professor. He cares about you and your grade in the class. Test were easy as long as you did the study guides. If I had to take this class again it would be with him 100%
Dr. Rawls is such a great guy. I really enjoyed his class. The quizzes and tests are easy as long as you study. The presentation is an easy A. he drops your two lowest quiz grades and provides extra credit. There is no reason why you shouldn't make an A in this class.
One of the coolest teachers I have had, very funny and it keeps his lectures from ever being boring. He explains things thoroughly and in a way that makes it easy to remember. He connects the content with his experiences in real life. He will inform you of anything you need to know for upcoming tests and he gives you plenty of time for the project.
easy class if you like reading! we read 3 full books, read half of two books, and we read a handful of smaller texts. good books, and assignments were simple if you did the reading. highly reccomend, very interesting stuff, and Dr. Rawls is a great professor
Dr. Rawls may be one of the best professors I've had to date. He really knows how to engage his lectures and his puns are honestly the icing on the cake. I got a B in his class, but I could have easily gotten an A if I had the time to put in more effort. If I could have him as a professor every semester, I would!
He is there to teach you, so be ready to learn. He is expecting attendance, participation and compromising to his teachings. He is very funny and can make the class go by super easy. I would love to take more classes with him.
Funny guy! His class was pretty easy he has a few quizzes and they are easy if u study. 3 test that are easier then quizzes if u study lol. He makes us do a presentation but it's easy and does not grade too hardly on it. Must attend his classes tho he grades on that.
This history class was the best I've ever taken. I do recommend always reading and studying the readings that are assigned, since there are reading quizzes. If you read and study, you'll do great on the quizzes/tests. The professor is hilarious. He has some corny jokes, but always finds a way to brighten the mood in the class.
I miss this teacher so much! He was amazing and truly knew how to inspire a class. I had him for a three-hour night class, and I still loved going every time, I never got bored for a second.
a true godsend of a professor and im serious, easy class, little hw, interesting topics, cares about you and the material he teaches! provides everything you need to succeed, extra credit, and a forgiving grading system. TAKE THIS COURSE !! my only critique is that he's prone to babbling about personal anecdotes and very cringe jokes but...worth it
