Funny but sometimes can be a little sarcastic. Still a really good professor. He definitely knows math!
Rieman is an amazing teacher! He goes through every step clearly and will answer every question with no judgement. He hands out test reviews that are extremely helpful and he makes class enjoyable with his nerdy math jokes and comic references. I wish he was teaching the class I'm in now!
He is an approachable instructor. He made the class fun and cracked some jokes in class. Homework which is online is reopen at the end of a final week to improve scores. Quizzes, given after each lecture are easy and helpful reviews. Final is a big portion of grade so be calm when taking final.
He was a good teacher! He was the first math teacher that made me understand math. He opened up the homework so we can get a better grade. He does give quizzes after every lecture, but they were easy! He likes to make jokes. He makes reviews that will look just like the test. Show up, learn, ask for help, and you will pass the course.
Mr. Rieman is a great proffesor. I got a perfect grade in his class. He is always available to explain anything you don't understand in class. He uses MyMathLab and I think its good because he give only one assignment per week and its less than 20 questions. He's funny and always bringing up lectures about movies and games before the starting class
He is a very good professor, teaches clearly and to the point. Really focused on the little things and moved at a great pace. There was homework most days, but isnt bad. Tests were fine, one if them the whole.l class didn't do great on so he redid all the grades so people would not have a horrible test grade to pull down their overall grade.
Took a 2 1/2 hour trig class with Mr. Rieman and it was actually kind of fun. He assigns a lot of problems (homework and optional test reviews) but he does it to help you understand the material. Takes time to explain problems and is forever asking if there are questions. I would highly recommend doing the test reviews. Good teacher.
Mr. Rieman is one of my favorite teacher ever. He makes jokes in class and outside of class and try his possible best to make you understand what he is teaching. He is extra helpful in tutoring center and interact(joke) with students outside of class more than any other teacher at Chemeketa. I want I can take him for the rest of my Math classes.
He goes over everything really well and makes calculus actually make sense. I wish I would have taken all of my math classes from him!
Probably the best math professor I have ever had. Very easy to follow and will work you to make sure you actually understand the content. Its hard to get a good professor on these higher level courses but if you have a choice you wont go wrong by picking him.
I would have never imagined flunking a class, but I flunked out of his. This was especially devestating considering the 20 hours I spent each week studying for his class alone. Plus he can be pretty rude. He ignores emails and plays favorites. Although he is pretty funny, I really didn't like him. Oh yeah, and no notes on tests! Booooo!
He was a great teacher! He was funny and made class pretty fun!
By far the best math teacher I have ever had. If you do the homework and go to office hours when you have questions, he takes the time to explain. If you show up every day and put effort into the class, you'll pass no problem. He gives study guides that are harder than the tests. So, if you can do the study guides, you'll ace the exams.
Awesome Teacher. I was scared to take this class because I'm constantly reminded that it is one of the most failed classes at Chemeketa. Mr. Rieman makes the class easy and enjoyable. Highly Recommend talking him.
Assigned weekly homework, which were lengthy at times, but assigned problems reflected the test material. A few take home quizzes and provided review test material, which again, reflected the content on the exams. Broke down problems from MTH 255 to 20 content. Helpful, will pace the content by checking in with the class, and has a sense of humor.
His class was great. Overall, I learned a lot from him, and he helped explain anything I didn't understand. MTH111 is very often failed, and I never had any trouble in the class. Would recommend him for anyone taking MTH111.
Beware of pop quizzes every class. The reviews and test are pretty straight forward. He does assign weekly homework and its a must if you want to pass the class with a good grade. He does go a little fast on the lectures but he will slow down if you tell him he's going to fast. Also be prepare to take a lot of notes, it will help you on the HW
He is my favorite math instructor in Chemeketa. I learned alot from him. He could explain very well for each part of the course. So, the class is easy to get A. He is friendly and willingly to help the student. I highly recommend him. If you hate math, take his class. I would say you wont be struggling and you will succeed.
I have always struggled with math teachers, finding a "good one". Even tough I did not pass his class, I thought he was an excellent instructor. The reason why I did not pass was my own fault, not understanding it, nothing on him. He was a great teacher. He gave many examples, with multiple ways of explaining it. He had good humor, and made it fun
He is my favorite math teacher at Chemeketa. He really takes time to explain everything, and still manages to be a great teacher and funny. While I had to really try, his lectures helped me understand calculus
While Calculus is naturally a hard subject, he made it interesting and fun. He managed to tell stories about himself, while still ending up several weeks ahead of schedule. While the class is fast-paced, you learn a lot, and will be prepared for the final.
If you want to learn, don't take this class.
Richard is a great instructor. I enjoyed his humor as well as his teaching abilities. His class isn't hard and he's pretty straight forward.
He's very willing to work with his students. He and I had a bit of an issue near the beginning of the term, but he was readily there to help solve it. He only test on items that are in his review packet and he provides the review a minimum of one week in advance. He was impressive enough that I intend on taking him for my 255 and 256 classes!
I felt I was in over my head for the first week (it had been 9 years since I had taken MTH95) but gradually got used to Mr. Rieman's fast- paced teaching and style, and I managed to pull off a good grade with lots of tutoring. If math isn't your strength (like me), then his class will really challenge you; however if I can pull through, so can you.
The class itself is high level so you would need to show up to understand. It was interesting to be in his class. Homeworks are graded but only for 10% and 30% for Test 1, Test 2, Test 3. If you did most of the homework, easy A for the test. The tests were easier than the homework themselves. Books can be borrowed in the library or in the tutoring.
Lectures are very fast paced and can be extremely hard to keep up with. Not very supportive of students and is the type to blow off any questions you ask him directly. He gives lots and lots of homework! Test reviews are extremely helpful, if you study them you can easily get an A on all of his tests.
If you are .01 off on a homework problem it is WRONG no exceptions. If He made a mistake and you point it out you are wrong he is not and he wont go over it to show you how you are wrong. He thinks hes better then the whole class and no matter what he is right even if multiple people point out what he did wrong. Dose not repeat anything.
He is one of the best teachers I have had. Throughout his lectures he will make sure everyone is still doing okay, and if someone isn't they will usually say where they got lost and he will go back and explain making sure everyone is on the same page. He's also basically a comedian. I don't know how he does it, but I am laughing in every class.
He was a great teacher. It is fast paced, but only because he has 1 hour every day to teach(which makes sense why it's fast paced)He sometimes showed visual drawings, as he's stated that he's a visual learner. Study guides are super useful, almost exactly like the same as the exams. A lot of hw, but you have 1-2 weeks to do it(in my class at least)
Integrals are harder than derivatives for most, so be ready for that. However, Rieman gives sample exams with really similar (sometimes identical) problems to the exams in class. We got a note sheet for each exam, which saved my bacon. He's funny and clear, which is a great combination.
he was not willing to work with students if you missed a class for any reason then it is your fault you should haven been there he didnt replie to any of the classes emails just says he went over it in class and you should have been there doesnt like it when students help each other with anything like a misunderstand or on how to use the calculator
Such a good professor, best math teacher I've encountered at Chemeketa and at other state universities. He always has time for students during office hours & don't let his sarcasm make you think he doesn't care. He's just trying to be funny, you just have to remember he's a math guy and math guys' humor is an acquired taste.
Im generally terrible at math, but Riemam totally changed the way I understand concepts. People that complain about their bad grades are usually the ones that don't bother to study or do the test review ( which really really helps). If you struggle with math defintley take his classes.
Rieman is a very funny professor, and I appreciate his humor. He does work really quickly, so for someone who struggles with math, I struggled keeping up in lectures. Write EVERYTHING down for notes!! He is also a little intense, and can seem brash or blunt at times. He doesn't reply to emails well, but he does have your best in mind.
Rieman is honestly the best math teacher I have ever had. Throughout high school, I barely maintained C's in my math courses, but I got an A in his class! The only people that say hes bad don't put in study hours before tests---studying the materials (review packets) he provides is essential to success in his class. Absolutely take his class.
Funny guy and a gifted teacher. He goes at a pace that should be suitable for everyone.
So, if youre terrible at math like me, Rieman is the teacher for you. Hes so good at explaining everything in detail. And he'll make sure that everyone understands what's going on. Plus, he has good math puns.
Mr. Rieman isnt the teacher to take if you want to be on a more personal level, however he will communicate what you need to pass. His test reviews are amazing and will absolutely get you through the tests. His lectures are fast-paced, but clear. If you pay attention and do the work, you will absolutely be fine with him.
Mr. Rieman is a wonderful teacher, very caring and thorough. I was 100% satisfied.
I could sit in his class and listen to him all day long. Amazing professor!
No notes for tests. Lots of quizzes and nerdy jokes. He also always opens up all the homework at the end of the term to finish up any we may have missed to earn more credit. I enjoyed him so much, I took him 4 times! I'm really bad at math, but I thought he made the experience more bearable, I wish he allowed a notecard for tests though.
Class taught me so much in such little time. Learning all of this new material was easy and fun. I hope I can take another class with him again. Grading was just the homework(do & pass tests)-Final(was 3 previous tests). Pop quiz? Yep, but as he explained they're not on anything you shouldn't already know-Refreshers or material newly taught by him.
Maybe I was spoiled by my 70 and 95 prof. who provided You Tube videos and power point for help and explanations, but not so here. Needed a little more explanation and clarification. Felt sort of out of place asking questions. Prof., outside of class though was most helpful.
Rieman can seem intimidating at first but he'll eventually warm up to you. He has a clear and fair grading criteria, gives quality lectures and assigns helpful hw and test reviews. I would be ecstatic to take another class from him again.
Richard is a great teacher. He can be gruff occasionally but he's a very forgiving grader. He keeps the class easy going, and teaches from his own examples, which is very helpful for such a dense textbook. He is patient with any students who have questions and if obviously passionate about math. I would recommend him to anyone.
Mr. Rieman is an awesome instructor and his lectures are the best. He gives a wide range from proofs to examples to help students understand the content. Cell phones and distractive talking are not allowed in class so check them at the door. To "sum" it up Mr. Rieman taught me about two important things, Integral Calculus and Robot Chicken.
3 tests and final, review gives you everything you need to know. Lectures are long but he covers everything and wants everyone to understand and pass. Quizzes at the end of class period, only 5% of grade so if you fail them all it doesnt matter. HW online with unlimited attempts and 2 weeks to do it. I hated math but he was amazing and so helpful.
Best math professor I've had. Open book quizzes. 3 tests and a final. He gives a review and a key before all tests. About 20 questions on each test and final. Very laid back and gives clear lectures and instructions. All homework was due in 2 weeks from assigned date. Would highly recommend this teacher to all. Easiest A ever.
He is sarcastic and funny but also serious about teaching. He will explain things to you in different ways to help you understand and is mostly based on lecture. I rarely needed my book though it came in handy on occasion.
Best math teacher at Chemeketa. He makes calculus easy to learn and he is very generous on grading. He understands the material is hard and works to help everyone through it. Sometimes he goes a little fast but he always catches himself and stops to answer every question. He really cares to make sure you do well and pass the class.
This is the only math class I've taken where I got an A. Seriously, Richard is some kind of math wizard. I suddenly know how algebra works!
He is very excellent and confident in his work. He is very helpful if students have questions. Has a good sense of humor.
Anyone taking calculus: Highly recommend Rieman. I've never had a class so well structured and put together. 3 exams, a final. HW is worth very little, but you need to do it in order to stay on top. Reviews are given a week before each exam with keys. If you know how to do the review you will ace the exams.
Best Prof in Chemeketa Community College. He is the reason I am still in this college otherwise might have gone to other college because most of the professors here are lazy and didn't want to teach anything in the class. Mr Rieman is always prepared for the class the and ready to help students even he is out for lunch in his personal time. ;-)
Richard Rieman is a great math instructor. He knows his subject and teaches it well. He can talk a little fast and you may have to ask him to slow down on occasions. Your grade comes solely from the homework and tests, so showing up to class for lectures is important.
NO NOTES ALLOWED IN TEST! 90% of grade is based on tests. Homework is online and does not match the way he taught in class. He talks really fast and its hard to take notes and listen to what he is saying. Slow to respond to emails and is not available on weekends, He makes rude comments about how stupid his students are in class .
I actually really enjoyed Rick as a human, however this class was really hard for me to follow. I took the previous class the term before at the same school and yet still felt like I was missing pieces of things I should know. I ended up having to do a lot of work on my own to figure out what some of the terms, etc meant .
Rick is great. My main struggle was I felt that it wasnt super easy to access him given this was an online course. Zoom classes were not what was scheduled in class (I.e. In person classes was Monday/Wednesday, Zoom class was Tuesday/Friday). This made it very difficulty for me personally to attend due to my work. Great professor other than that!
An all around great professor. If you have the option to take him or someone else always take him. He went out of his way to make the class more available and less stressful because of the COVID-19 outbreak. Lots of homework but this is calculus, it's nothing new. Lots of fun nerdy jokes but also takes his work seriously. Just a great guy.
Pretty funny and nerdy dude. Makes it plenty easy enough for engineering bros to pass. Gives you a pink piece of paper for you to use on every test which IMO was too generous and made the tests a little too easy but I digress. If he goes fast just politely let him know to slow down, he doesn't mind and will actually tell you to do this.
Howdy Y'all! Rick is one of the greatest professors at this school. For starters, he's always full of life in class and it gets contagious! He makes math incredibly fun and makes sure you're understanding the content in the process. As for the class. pay attention, take notes, and reach out and you'll enjoy that nice bold "A" on that report card
Professor Rieman gives very comprehensive lectures (which are recorded) and is a generous grader. Study guides were made available for both tests. He was very responsive to emails. There is a lot of homework but it can be easily finished with the amount of time given.
His lectures go suppperr quickly. I think he has a great personality and I have officially learned what a GPU is. I wish that his classes were more interactive but definitely a solid choice if you can handle fast lectures!
Professor Rieman was absolutely great. I haven't taken a math in over 10 years and I got an easy A just from his lectures alone, I did not read one chapter. He explains it exactly how you need to know it, gives reviews for tests, and even gives two attempts at tests. With a little effort you will get an A in his class.
Absolutely loved this teacher. Made calculus easy to understand and he prints out his own notes for students to follow along with when he gives a lecture. He's a little goofy which makes the class fun and less intimidating. Everything on the test is based off of the review, so ALWAYS do the review. Try to do as much of the homework as you can.
Good professor, lectures aren't boring and keeps everyone engaged. Willing to help and explains very well. Homework and test were online. Class is recorded.
I cant tell you how nice it was to have a teacher believe in homework not having a due date, not because you can slack off, but because it takes the pressure off. He has due dates until the end of the term. It gave me a chance to go back and redo all the homework for a new grade. It helped so much. My confidence is higher after taking his class.
Entertaining lectures. Does want you to actually learn. Has study guides for all tests, and the test is the same level of difficulty as the study guide.
Homework is only 10% of your grade but tests are clear and study guides for them are very clear, test questions are basically copy pasted from the study guides. He talks fast but checks to make sure everyone understands, he even gave us a few days off throughout the term. Rick is great, highly recommend, he understands the material completely.
Took this class last summer and it went well, it was still online. Tests are a large part of the grade but if you do the reviews and homework you will be prepared. Rick is funny and is readily available if you ever have questions.
Rick is a great teacher, he makes sure you understand and goes over every step as he teaches. Homework is only worth 10% of the grade but the tests are the same as his reviews. He doesn't have any wild cards with his material and he is easily accessible for office hours.
Tests are 90% of the grade & are also really closely based off of the review that we do weeks before, so theres really no excuse to not do well on the tests. Homework tho, just wasn't specific enough to what we were actually doing in class. He can be kind of blunt & hard to read socially; this cause me to have some anxiety about asking questions.
Best professor ever! All I need to say
He was the best calculus teacher I could ask for; he's super funny, helpful, and a generous grader. Even if you don't get the questions completely right, as long as you show him you know the process and how to get to the correct answer, he will give you partial points.
While you don't have to show up to class, if you are confused about something I suggest it. Everything he taught made sense and he was super open to questions and helping people understand. Homework site was awesome, it let you retry the problem as many times as you want until you get it right. Do the work, ask questions.
One of the best math teachers I've ever had. He does a great job explaining the concepts in the way that are easy to grasp. He uses a lot of great examples to help solidify the ideas and makes sure all of the students understand them. Assignments are not too hard and tests are not too long.
He's an amazing teacher really easy to follow and fun to learn from. Tests are not too bad if you do all the homework and write good notes. Really enjoyed his class.
If you get far enough to MTH 256 at Chemeketa, you better know Rick is an exceptional professor. I haven't had a professor where I am actually bummed out that I can be in their class anymore. Rick's teaching is fantastic and so are his jokes. His tests are always very fair as usual. Just... man, what a professor. Thanks for everything Rick! :,)
Absolutely amazing teacher. Test grading is extremally generous, and will give you a through review before them. Homework is not to hard, and is directly stuff from test/ material. Overall a great teacher, very passionate about math! Thank you for everything Rick!
Very generous with grading. Gives one assignment per section, so don't procrastinate. The assignments are more difficult than the tests, and the test reviews are really helpful. Awesome dude, would take again!
I can't sum up everything good about Rieman in 300 letters, but I'll try. He is the best instructor I've ever had the privilege of taken. You need to have good work ethic to do well. He cares for his students, and while professional and intent with his lectures, he knows how to have fun. Tests are well rounded and he provides detailed study guides.
Professor Rieman was INCREDIBLE. I always looked forward to his classes, because he's such an entertaining teacher. His exams were very similar to the review problems, and he grades very leniently. He's a great math teacher and makes his classroom very fun to be in.
If you are taking any calculus math class, choose Rieman. He's friendly, funny, and a very clear grader. He is not homework heavy, and teaches solely for the purpose of learning. His test reviews are pretty straight forward. If you can do the review, you can do the test.
All around easy to work with. Very flexible with homework due dates, but isn't worth much overall weight of overall grade. If you have two tests, they will be worth at minimum of 40% overall grade, and I'm taking him now and his two tests and one final are all worth 30% each and 10% for homework. Great professor, loves what he does and loves math!
Truly fantastic. Enough said
One of the funniest and most laid-back professors I've had. Very lenient with grading. Do the homework and participate in class and you'll be fine. There's a lot of material so make sure you keep up. Catching up if you fall behind is very very difficult.
I liked him. He explains very well but he talks very very fast, so you always have to tell him to slow down.
He's funny and pretty lively, a few things to mention though, he goes fast so you will have to ask him to slow down. He tends to cram unit sections into one when taking notes, but he will go over problems with you if you ask. Overall a good teacher, as long as you're not too scared to raise your hand and say something you'll be fine
He talks very fast, I barely could keep up with him especially when it comes to taking notes. He is a very hard teacher.
Can be very disrespectful, doesn't like when you don't laugh at his jokes. Copy and paste material, has messed up and confused material many times which makes it confusing to learn. Provided notes are horrible.
Very transparent and will give you a great foundation to math! His lectures are easy to digest and provides many examples. He can go quite fast at times, but as long as you write everything down, pay attention, and reflect on the notes after, you're pretty much set.
He seems scary, but he is not evil. He'll be nice to you if you're nice to him.
Sassy man apocalypse
very hard to keep up and is very lecture heavy, doesn't follow textbook
The work for his class is very low stress. Homework is not graded harshly, deadlines are often extended. For tests, each problem will just be a scrambled version of a problem on the test review. So confidence on the review = confidence on the exam. Just don't be afraid to ask him to slow down, because he tends to go fast. He's not a mean guy.
Rick's an outstanding math Professor and a true asset to the College/Community. He breaks complex concepts down into clear, digestible parts with patience and enthusiasm. Wise and inspiring like Gandalf, he prepares students not just for exams but for future courses/life. I wish I'd taken all my math classes with him as his teaching is unmatched.
Rick teaches like he's already beaten the final Math boss (which arguably a math thesis would equate that at minimum). I kid you not one day Rick was explaining something so clearly that three students in the room leveled up at the same time. Can't recommend Professor Rick enough to anyone taking a math class from math 111 up to diff eq calc!
Good lectures and kind of funny. Really annoying with the sidetracks of random stuff when we are paying for the class and is kind of rude if you don't show up to class. I would smile at him and say thank you and he'd roll his eyes, but it's whatever. I got a bad grade because i didn't like the way he taught and didn't wanna be there
