hes tough, there is a lot of work and you need to go to class so you dont fall b
Definitely a devoted pfor. Talk to him outside of class!!!!!!!

Lots of material, must go to class or you'll fall behind!
Great teacher, devoted, knows how to keep interest
He is so awesome, he made the most boring class somewhat interesting
great prof, fast pace, must go to class, cares alot for students
Cool dude, passion for his course, made me enjoy going to his class

Richard Rogers Rocks!!!! He is an awesome teacher...can't say the same for his T.A.'s!
great professor- very clear and fun- uses powerpoint for clarity
No Comments
Tries to make it interesting, really not that nice of a guy though and really unclear- need to read the book or be a genius to understand him
absolutely the best teacher ive EVER had! hes the nicest guy, tries to really make it clear and truly wants to kno all of his student at a personal level. im a resource economics major because of him!
He's the most dedicated prof at UMass. He puts so much of his own time into helping students; its really commendable. He truly cares about his students and tries to make class fun.
HORRIBLE! His lectures are worthless, just a bunch of random powerpoint slides that go by way too fast to even read them let alone copy them down. Tests are very confusing. PRS used in class as part of our grade was totally unfair. OWL quizzes also unfair
He goes wayyyy to fast. whips through slides, tries to trick you in the PRS's. seems like a really nice guy, but the class stinks. don't take it if you don't have to.
He is really into Stats and will help students anytime they need it. This class is hard though, the slides in class are so fast you can't copy them down. Basically, you go to class for the PRS questions and go to optional discussion to learn material.
PLEASE, don't listen to the other reviews. 100 slides a class, gives you 3 owls/week that get posted a day before due. He thinks he's an all-star b/c he can make trick q's on rediculous tests. you HAVE to go to lec b/c there are 6 graded prs q's/class. Every1 is lost in my lec, worst class ever.
I gotta say, he tries. BUT HE SUCKS. he moves way too fast, tricks with the PRS, your required to go to every lecture but wont learn anything there. i learned everything by doing the OWLs and teaching myself. very very nice guy, loves his stats, but this class is not meant to be 400 people.
One of the worst teachers I have had. He goes too fast during class, its very hard to follow him. The PRS questions are unhelpful and discouraging. I learn nothing in lecture-I have to teach everything to myself. He enjoys embarassing students in class. He needs to re-work his teaching methods.
Class and the subject matter is pretty boring. He attempts to make stats fun but it doesn t work. His questions on exams are tricky as well
best guy to teach this class, boring material, crazy guy but does the best you can do with stats
Professor Rogers is a really nice man and is dedicated to helping people learn. His teaching style is very fast and hard to follow. The tests are pretty difficult, avg. usually in the 60s. Not that hard to get a good grade because of graded homework and online quizzes.
This guy rocks. He's funny, nice, helpful and just an all round awesome teacher. He loves stats and is really passionate about it. The class is decent if you do your work like the quizzes and attend class. Grading is very fair. In short, if you do your work, you have no excuse to do badly. R2 ROCKS!
Worst class I've taken at UMass. Lectures were unhelpful and ultimately irrelevant to the exams. Worst professor as well. Never did inclass examples. PRSs didnt teach anything&400 people are in the class so you cant always get in there. Tests were ridiculous. Had to self-teach A LOT. Awful-dont take
Honestly, it's the worst class ever and he is the worst teacher ever. I always get A's and I got a BC in his class. Really don't like him.
Professor Rogers is one of the nicest teachers at Umass. He has very helpful office hours for a ton of hours during the week and on saturday. His class is pretty hard because he goes so fast but the material is really pretty easy. Go talk to him and he will definetely try his best to help you out. He is the man.
Best guy at UMass. Hard class, but its the material, not him. He is very helpful and he makes it as interesting as it can be made. If you stay up to speed with the work and miss NO class you will get at least an A/B like me, and i'm no super student.
one of the best professors I ever had
rogers is a tool he calls himself r^2. lectures are pointless prs questions are rediculously hard and are counted as quizes. runs into the middle of rows with his table pc and forces sleeping people to do problems. also has chased people who have left the room and forces them back in to do problems. TOOL
Rogers is awesome. I mean, stats is a hard subject to teach, but he tries very hard to make it interesting for the students. If you dont understand something he's always glad to clear stuff up for you, as long as it takes. His exams are kinda hard if you're not good at math like me. It takes alot of effort though

Worst professor I've ever had, for the worst class I've ever taken in college. Tried to teach statistics through powerpoint presentations, as opposed to doing problems and showing students how its done. PRS questions were hard, not enough time to do them, and so many people were in the class sometimes you couldn't even get your PRS in. Horrible.
Probably the worst professor/teacher I have ever had in my life. I don't even think he deserves the right to be called a teacher because he doesn't teach a single thing. He talks about stats but he doesn't tell you how to do anything. Anything I actually learned in that class was on my own or someone else taught me. He sucks really bad.
You either love the class, or you don't. I don't.
R squaraed is the balls! Anyone who complains about 212 is just dumb and can't follow slides. He hammers the stuff into your head, lecture after lecture. There's no reason not to learn the material. He loves stats, and teaches it well. If you give the class a chance, you will learn a lot
Professor Rogers is such a nice guy! The subject material isn't always the most interesting, but he definitely does his best to make the class as fun as he can. He hands out money and candy sometimes, and is about as clear as is possible in teaching the material... Go to class and you should do well.
Everything associated with this class sucks, including Rogers. I regret taking this class, it was rather pointless. It killed my GPA. SOM majors, I feel your pain.
Even though this course would lower my GPA, it was a bit of fun. His tests are really hard and there are times when you just want to die instead of taking his tests. He is really helpful though. He helped me with a lot of problems patiently. He tries his best to help his students get a higher rate by adjusting his grading system. He is nice.
The tests are wicked tricky so even if you understand everything... it just doesn't matter to be quite frank. However, I love Richard and he's one of my favorite ppl ever.
he loves his stats! he always tries to make it easier for us to understand by seein more at our level. his test aren't even that bad. if you go to lecture, you won't even need to use the book.
every lecture i have to hold myself back from throwing my PRS at him.
I HAVE A QUESTION IS THIS CLASS EQUVIALENT TO STATISTICS 240?
I cannt say enough about this guy. Simply one of the nicest and best teachers at UMass. One of my favorites so far through all of my schooling! He knows whats important besides school and Stats. Sad to see him leave. Oh and R^2... I know how you feel about that hot or not vote so I gave you hot because I know what the ladies really think!
This was without a doubt one of the worst classes I have ever taken with one of the worst professors I have ever had. The exams were extremely hard, the TA's were not helpful at all. Prof. Rogers has to be one of the top ten worst professors I have ever had. DO NOT TAKE if you can avoid it at all!!
The only people who have a problem with this class is people who don't like to work for their grades. Rogers makes himself totally available for help (even on weekends), is clear on the material, and is genuinely fascinated by statistics. He makes little side jokes that are hilarious if you're paying attention. However, the class itself IS hard.
This was the worst class I have ever taken with the worst professor I have ever had, Exams were extremely hard, PRS tries to trick you, moves way to fast with the slides and does not explain the material well at all. AWFUL class with a man who does not deserve to call himself a professor.
Richard Rogers was one of the best professors i have ever had. He simply inspired interest in the subject for those that were paying attention. His slides did move fast, but you could print them out online. PRS was difficult, but it served as a way to make homework and tests easier. For anyone who wants to learn stats, take Professor Rogers.
Honestly, R^2 doesnt deserve the negative comments he gets. Whoever hates him so much obviously didn't put the work into this class. You can't coast by because it does go fast, but if you're smart and do all the textbook problems he assigns, then you're set. I got an A in the class and barely even attended lectures.
Goes way too fast, does not explain things well at all and tests are very hard. I would not recommend him to anyone.
i hate this class with a burning passion. ive been studying for hours and hours and have yet to learn anything. this class is going to make me committ suicide. i cant even put in words how miserable i am taking this class. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. consider yourself warned.
Mr. Rogers is awesome. The fact that he invites students to have pizza with his should sum it all up. Other than that, he cares about his students, and they only complain because they don't pay attention/study/understand. Study children. Learn to open a book. R squared is the coolest man ever.
You learn alot in this class, and he's a pretty good teacher. Passionate about teaching. Just DO NOT MISS that many classes, or you'll fall behind so quickly
R^2 is a pretty cool guy. The class is pretty much powerpoint slides that he posts online with practice problems. If you don't get an A in this class, it is because you don't try. He does ask some tricky questions, but he offers so much help that you should know your stuff. Pizza with the prof/ Sunday stats show how much he cares for his students!!
R^2 is the man. The course material isn't easy by any means, but he offers so much extra help. Sunday stats, pizza with the prof, plus he adjusts your percentages at the end of the semester to give you the best grade possible. If you miss classes or the online quizzes you will fall behind, period. Don't do that and you're golden.
resecon 212 class is very difficult but rogers is a great professor and truly dedicated if your gonna take this class be ready to work
Such a good guy, one of the most flexible professors at UMASS. May seem hard at first...but if you have to take STATS he's the way to go!!!
good professor who cares about his students, very understanding. PRS makes attendance in class required, but if you miss classes you'll fall behind. material can be tough, but there's tons of office hours with TAs and R2. passionate about stats and as a req class for ISOM, etc. he's a good prof to take it with.
Course is very hard, you can fall behind easily, tests are very tricky, make sure to do the PreLec OWLS and OWL Quizzes, make sure to go to class don't miss too many because its really easy to fall behind, worst professor i've had.
This Class was ridiculously hard mainly because Prof. Rogers goes through the course work wayyy to fast. He does care about his students and he does offer alot of extra help like sunday stats and pizza with the prof. YOU CANT SLACK IN THIS CLASS!!! This class is really easy to fall behind in and his tests are really hard.
No matter what anybody says about Rogers in here, they cannot deny the fact that RR loves stats and his passion is infectious. Examples are applicable to everyday life. Moves fast through slides; but, makes them available online and videotapes lectures so you can watch those again. Donates his Sundays to his students. most dedicated prof Ive had
R^2 is the best professor i've ever had in my life! i would never miss a single one of his class because that's how much i loved them! most interesting and engaging professor ever. he also has the coolest personality and awesome sense of humor. he's just a really good person in general. i dont know how anyone can't love stats after taking his class
I'm taking his class now, and he does go somewhat fast, but all slides are on before and after the class so if you write slow, print them out. He has a great sense of humor and a huge passion for stats which helps because I actually hate stats myself. It's not a bad class, definitely not an easy one though.
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS. He is the worst professor I have ever experienced at this school. He feels that his class is the only one your taking each semester. Weekly OWLs, PreLectures, PreDiscussions, 2 Quizzes even on test weeks. Office hours at terrible times, races through slides can't copy notes, book is a joke, take math 240 instead!!!!!!!!!!!
He's a really nice guy and good teacher. Sometimes people give him a hard time just because they hate math classes. If your bad at math like me I recommend taking stats with him. Also I hear that his class better prepares you for stats 250 which is another SOM prerequisite.
I have tried to take stats three times before. Professor Rogers is the only one who could get this to make sense in my brain. I am not a SOM student, I am an anthropology student. I don't generally think in Math Terms. He is making stats make sense to me. Finally.
Very difficult subject for a non-math major. Go to class, do the practice work, and get help as soon as you don't understand. Exams are hard but R2 is an awesome guy. He goes the extra mile to help his students, and he understands that stats is hard & frustrating for some people. Very patient and understanding. Keep up with work & you'll be okay.
Excellent Teacher! Like the person before me, he is the best person I have met at UMass. He is super dedicated and really cares about the sucess of each student. This is a tough class but Rogers is a FANTASTIC teacher and guy. I feel lucky to take a class with him.
great professor, extremely dedicated. class can be difficult because stats is simply a difficult subject for some, but Rogers does all he can to help his students. He is a tremendous asset to UMass and even though Im still not a huge fan of stats I am a huge fan of this professor.
I read reviews before this class and thought I'd have a difficult time but nothing to unmanagable. BOY I WAS WRONG. This class is hard. Rogers goes way to fast. I went to sunday stats which was the only thing that helped me barely pass. The Rogers really isn't a good teacher and I think he writes some of these comments.
Very tough class. Attend class to get notes and do PRS, go to all Sunday Stats and office hours. Also OWL quizzes and assingments are very similar to what is on the exam. Work hard and you will do well.
One of my fave profs when I had just joined Umass. He makes the material so easy.Attend lectures & discussions. He uses PRS a lot which you can also opt out, recorded lectures on the class website was just the best thing and Sunday stats rocked.R^2 rocks & stats is fun!!
Was an extremely hard class. Take with a friend if you can. Rich is a great guy though and tries his best to inspire everyone to learn. He has a great heart amd even made me cry on the last day of class with a story about his dad.
He's an okay teacher. Goes way too fast and doesn't leave room for understanding the concept. I sat in a class with the other Res212 teacher Donna & I thought she was a much better teacher overall. So, think hard before taking this class. I would advise aganist it.
Make sure you greet him with "Mr, Rogers," cause he loves that! Also, gives inspirational last lecture speeches that are so motivational. This guy knows what life's all about, and he also knows his Statistics.
He is very energetic & loves statics. He does go through the material quickly in class. Can be hard to take notes. He is around during office hours. TA's are near useless. Don't get caught behind.
Really smart guy. Sometimes hard to understand because he speaks in a needlessly technical way. Although the class was hard, I enjoyed it because he is an awesome person. He is passionate and enthusiastic about stats and his last lecture was inspirational. Best professor I've had
Rogers is really into stats and wants everyone else to be too. If he wasn't so pumped on stats this class would be much worse. Other than that, this class is really hard, lots of homework assignments every week (about 7 including owl quizzes and team assignments) so that means nothing really counts that much toward your final grade.
Hes a great guy, very enthusiastic about stats and wants everyone to be. The class is awful though and is extremely hard. His lectures move way to fast and he does not explain everything fully. I would not take this class unless you want to ruin your semester and devote all your time to understanding stats. Take 240 or 211 instead
Awesome guy, really funny and enthusiastic about Stats. The class on the other hand is difficult and not fun at all, no matter how many times he says "Stats is fun." Don't take this class unless you enjoy being tortured by numbers.
He is a great guy. Class is so much work though. He makes a few things optional, but if you don't do that percentage then it goes towards your final. So really, it isn't that much of a choice. The class would have been so much worse if he wasn't enthusiastic. He is a good teacher and a great guy but gives too much work and it is difficult.
I love R^2!! Amazing guy. If it wasn't for him this class would be terrible. He tries to keep you entertained through class even though the material is hard. I'm so happy I took the class with him, he helped out a lot!
The best professor at UMASS. No joke. He retired this year, but I still gotta give him props. I hope the class understands and appreciates how much love he puts into this course and his job-it really shows. Yes, the class is hella hard. Yes, stats is not that interesting. Yes- you have 5+ hours of HW a week. It doesn't matter,b/ R^2 <3's U !!!!!!
R^2 is a GREAT guy! His class can be difficult and involves a lot of work but he loves what he teaches and you can tell. He is extremely helpful and wants you to succeed. Never had a teacher be so understanding, fair, and passionate about what he does. Makes you almost like stats :)
