He is suck associate chair and worse professor. If he gives you guys hard-times, please don't stop, keep going to try to figure out your own problems by talking to the other person who is his boss. Do not listen to him anything if you really want to do it. Don't take his class unless you really want to study.
Sometimes, he is good but if you dont study hard he tells you many things..........I know him very well but I dont want to choose him anymore for my classes.That's all!

Worse professor, Your final writting essay scores dependes on reading scores. he wont give you good grades unless u do well in reading.basically everyone gets 7

He is really good professor. He knows how to teach, he makes you write essay every class which i ahd once a week but his all help can help you to get 121.
I took his class in Fall 06. And he is not that bad as others say. I really enjoyed his class. He makes jokes so his classes are funny. And he is also helpful. Thanks to him I got to ENG 121. If you want to learn something and have fun take his class.

This guy will give you the creeps! Just remember you can Add or Drop courses so when you see how bad he is you can change to a different instructor. Take this advice and find a differeng instructor.

Mr.Richard Roy is one of the best professors that UCC has. He is a very smart man that motivates the students to do always their best.We need more teachers like him.

Highly recommended prof. yes, his class is very hard but you have to work hard to improve your skills, and you have to attend the class in regular basis, do your homework. Pay attention to what he says especially (VOCABULARY WORDS), so take notes.

It's Richard Roy! I have to acknowledge him for his knowledge and experiences of teaching ESL.. He knows much and is able to explain any grammar problems, but he just doesn't have the soul to be a teacher..(He admitted himself).
I need credits so have to take this class. I wish this professor liked his job then mayble I would find something to like about this course. SOmebody should do the students a favor and get him out of the classroom.

I took him in spring 2007 for ESL 099. There are so many students who do not like him, but they are wrong. Prof. Roy is not an easy professor because he sometimes gives you so much work, and you have to take notes in his class to get good grade; however, all these things help you to be successful and much better than other 099 students. He is great
I highly recommend this professor. He is a great person who makes his class fun.On the other hand, he teaches very well and high level. ESL courses are there to help you to improve your English skills, and learning is more important than passing the course. You will learn alot and you will do great in future by taking him. I really loved his class.

If you want to pass the horribly difficult test "college placement test" at MCC, if you truly want to get in ENG121, not non-credit courses(RDG011,ENG010), JUST TAKE Professor Roy's class. Then you will see why I am saying so. Follow his helpful materials if you are serious about learning English.

Wort professor ever , u will definitely not learn anything , crazy topics that he always gives for the writing skills including the homework that he always checks but we never correct at the class I unfortunately regret taking him.

Prof. Roy is tough, but if you show commitment to his class he will help you. He is very strict and expects you to work hard, lots of homework and vocabulary quizzes. I learned a lot from his class and I passed it with an A and now I'm taking ENG121.

He failed me in my class even when my Mid term and Final grades were good. But when I asked him "why did you failed me?". He said you don't have good marks in Quiz. What does this supposed to mean ?

No! you will get the worst semester in your life, I do not think he understands what he is teaching. other Professors do not recommend taking his class. I passed his class with an A and passed the test to regular English. he teaches you the things you do not need. many dropped out, many failed, only 5 people passed his class, and 3 passed the test.

He is okay but his class is kinda boring. Probably because the class that I took meets once a week and I spent almost 3 hours. Another thing is that I can't hear his voice clearly during the lecture.; he definitely needs to speak louder. There will be pop quiz about vocabulary. lots of reading.

The way he teaches is not convinient
I took him for my first semester. I would say he's a pain, but he will prepare you for english 21. He's really strong at teaching but I can say that he is a great teacher and he teaches really nice. The only thing you can do is work hard to get your grades.
I took three courses with Prof. Roy. Excellent teacher. I have learned a lot in his class. he is a tough grader but you will learn in his class. If you participate and does what ever he advise you e.g learning vocabulary and reading you can get A easily I wish he teaches 121 and 122 too.
Not good at teaching you how to write properly.
He will give you so many papers because he will pick the best one to collect the scores and I think, this is the best way for us to get a good grade. He has the students sat like a circle so everyone can give and listen to each others opinions. If you're looking to get knowledge so he is one of the professor that you should take his class.

For people who says he prepares you for ENG121, I passed ENG 121 with an A and got D in his class! He just makes students hate to study ENGLISH ! The way he teaches is not convenient! He actually not teaching at all, he just makes you read and read in your own. Dont waste your time!
This's the hardest ESL class I've ever taken in my life. The matching vocabulary is the disaster for me and also my classmates, I know every single word he told us to study; however, the definition is so different he did it for the purpose. Excellent Professor. He is tough and gives a lot of work to do so don't take the class for summer. I learned a lot and I saw improvement in my writing skills. He is helpful and will help you with whatever you need, you just have to be respectful and do your best. He gives extra points so don't drop out after two weeks, he'll offer you tutoring.

He is one of the best ESL and English professors at MCC. He knows what he is doing. He is super knowledgable and cares for his students. He gives plenty of writings to read, correct, and analyze, which are really needed to make you learn. He is very nice. He likes hard working people. He is very polite, so he expects the same from you. I loved it
If you are not willing to work hard, I do not recommend his class. He wants his students to learn and be prepared for higher courses. I do not regret taking his class. He is such a caring and lovely human being.
please DON'T TAKE HIM. there are other good teachers you can take. he is good if you are female but still don't take him. you have to put so much work for no reason he will make you present in front of the class and will make you write so many easy that is unbelievable. rather take another prof if you take him then most of your time will go in esl
If you actually want to learn and improve, then I recommend his class. If you are only looking for an easy A, then he is not your man. He will make you work hard, but you'll learn. I don't regret taking his class. He is available outside class and gives good feedback. Youll succeed in his class if you are nor lazy.

Stay away from a professor like him. He doesn't teach anything. He thinks that people will pass his class but it is very hard. I took english 2 in high school but am taking ESL for some reason. I couldn't expect what new people would do if they were in his class. I am also failing. So please help me get his rating down for future people to know.

Ok, this was my first class in MCC, an advisor registered the class for me and when I read the reviews I was so nervous. Prof. Roy is amazing ONLY if you really want to LEARN. If you just want to pass the class so then you can take ENG-121 then this is not your teacher. You must be on time, do your homework and take A lot of notes for your midterm
Be aware of this professor , I don't know how he could be professor at this college . The way he treats certain students is really strange .i don't want to go in dept but In my class many students had alot of problems with him I hope Esl department take some action against him .
Despite all the bad reviews, I liked this professor. He will not give you good mark for nothing, be ready to study, and your knowledge will be appropriately estimated.
If you joined the class regularly and follow his instructions, you will be ok. Do not copy from the internet and don't miss your homework especially rewrite as it can change your in-class writing grades which will affect 40% of your total grade.

The professor has a rigid teaching style, but engaging with it can pay off. Use resources like Unstuckstudy, the free textbook, and study sessions to do well. Attendance is a must, and grades are tough to earn, but the effort is worthwhile.

This is a college-level professor. He wants the best for you; his classes are challenging and encourage you to study. Before his class, there were many English lessons I ignored. If you're passionate about learning, this is your professor if you just want to pass; however, he's not the one for you.
This is the worst professor I have ever taken. he does not know how to teach and expects students to already know everything. He gives many graded surprise quizzes on material he has not yet covered. When we take vocabulary tests, the definitions are completely different from what we were taught.
