very boring for me, he's way to interested in the pioneering age, most subjects are boring, if you could find another english class

HE is boring but It seems that he is teaching from his heart. He always prepers lesson plan and seems to care. He gets mad sometimes and he actually ask questions, but alway answers them by himself which gets enoying. But overall is good. If you there and pay attention and do the homework like every class you will do good. He gives very good grades

He is very motivated professor. He made you feel relax and not stressful in class. If you are a student that are very afraid of writting, I recomend you to take him.

I usually hate English classes, but I was pleased with Mr. Russell. I took him during winter session and the classes were REALLY long, no one could make it 100% interesting, but he did a good job. The essays were clear and easy if you followed instruction, and he is willing to help if anyone needs it. Excellent professor, indeed.

I took this class over the summer 2005. He is great! He takes the time to expose students to other cultures and styles of writing as well as music and film. He made taking English over the summer bearable and interesting!

He is a good teacher. He makes class very relax. Take his class if you are afraid of writing. You will feel relief.

I can say that he is the best teacher i have ever had! The essays I wrote in his class are most likely the best I have ever written. He encourages you to write what you like and offers more than enough help and input. Great guy! Hands down--take this class!

He is really really hard in the summer session. I don't know how he was in the main semester, but in the summer he is really hard. The class is so stressful b/c of so much reading.You have to read about over 50pages of books or essays a day.He never skip any assignment,he keep evrbody doing all the assignments in the main semester for the summer.

Mr Russell, in my opinion, is the best English teacher at Mission. He is kind, caring and genuinely loves to teach. Our class watched some interesting videos too. As long as you do all the work and the readings, you will pass this course.

I took this class in the winter time. HARDEST class I've ever taken. From beginning to end it was non-stop reading, essays and take home tests. Don't be fooled by the fact that its take home, its still hard!

I took this class in the Winter and I have to say that this was a very extreme class. There was so much work to do and get done. ENG1A during semester is one of THE easiest I've ever taken! Essays are only 3-4 pages & final is 6 pgs & it's your topic of choice. He plays videos and music clips to change pace. Has occasional ****ing & tends to go off on tangents but his grading is easy if you keep up with the assignments...and there's not a whole lot. Must take!

This is one of the best english teachers I've ever taken. Very well developed classes that will not lose your attention. Creates a good atmosphere by bringing the subject of study to life. I had his class this summer. I usually hate english classes but he made them interesting and he grades fair. As long as you try and keep up on the assignments you will get a great grade. I am planning on taking another class with him because he is a very interesting character and you can tell he really likes his job. Best english teacher!!

I agree with the other student that he is extremely oriented with the material and easy to talk to. He is always love to help; he loves his job; he has passion for teaching; young students find his class boring, but serious students find his class interesting. You should take his class if you really want to learn English. He grades fair.

4 essays,3 take-home quizzes, 1 final take-home quiz, a lot of readings. Need to work hard,put your brain into working and reasoning to get A.My 3 essays are 4-5 pages, 4 take home quizzes 12-15 pages and a semester project of 8 pages =) He askes short, you need to explore and make the answer detailed so that he knows you understand the readings.

Best professor I have ever had! He has a passion to teach. let him know what you need to work on and he will go out of his way to help you. He wants you to know how to write. He has so many resources for you to learn. The text book was very good. you will learn so much taking his class.

I find him quite entertaining, although odd at times. He has a dry sense of humor and might come off as feisty but he is a nice guy overall. He will do his best to help you if you come up to him with a question. I really like the reading assignments for 1B. There are some writings, but nothing too bad; this IS an English class.

This teacher is very fun. He incorporates music and video into the learning. His lesson plan also helped in my concurrently enrolled classes Music 10 and History 17A. I give him two thumbs up for actually following his own syllabus!! Although his demand for a writing is high and being thorough is a must I highly suggest him...

I took a summer English class. He did a great job of keeping to his daily outline. We covered a large amount of material in a short amount of time. He's a great teacher that motivates you to write, not just gives you work to do. He worked very hard to keep a summer class motivated. Great job!

I had this high school Eng teacher for 3 years and she was amazing. Mr.Russell blew her out of the water.Take his class.If he could teach ever subject,I'd take all of his classes.He incorporates everything you can think of into his class in order to make his students understand the author's purpose. Best teacher ever!! really enjoys what he does and he makes it interesting. He grades very easy and incorporates movies and music into his lectures. He is actually fun on a Saturday morning and I ended up taking him again for 1B. He is always good at helping students when they ask. Extra essays count as extra credit :0)

Awesome 1B course. One of the required texts is a COMIC BOOK!!! This guy knows what he's talking about, and he is very open to discussing grades. You don't have to show up, follow the syllabus and you'll be fine. He never gets angry at students but he can be a bit of a dive if you are caught texting in class for longer than 5 minutes. EASY A!!!

If you take Eng1b during summer, it's a lot of busy work. You have an assignment due almost every class. But if you do the reading and keep up with assignments, you should be fine. Professor is alright; he loves Lady Gaga and Glee, I could actually see him as a theatre teacher. He can come off as rude sometimes, but is usually quick to apologize.

This teacher was hard. gpa sensitive people, beware. I might've gotten a B+, honestly because i used google to type his questions only and read summaries. Most of my assignments were As, like 2 Cs, i'm currently doing research project, and i'm completely BOMBING it. currently A, but at the very end, i'm pretty sure its going to be a B+. hard class.

You have to work hard in this class.Lots of reading each week + weekly easy quizes,4 essays,1 research project and many extra credits.Mr Russel is nice and helpful. His class is entertaining, lots of music and movies. He is a good grader. As long as you get the grammer and punctuation right you'll get an A.I got an A but worked very hard for it.

Mr Russell is a very good and smart teacher. He is organized, always prepared for the class, ready to help. He always responds to your mails almost a same day. He asks you to read and you do most of your writing at home. At his class you need to pay attention to his lecture. He might be very friendly. However, he might be a little rude sometimes.

He is an exceptionally intelligent professor. I can honestly say I look forward to his class every Saturday morning. He incorporates references from pop culture to stimulate his teachings, and to make them appealing to his students. Has a penchant for Katy Perry and Lady Gaga, as others have mentioned. Put forth the effort, and you will pass.

Loved his English 1A class. All essays are pretty much what YOU want to write about- he just provides the general topics. You read and write a lot- keep up and you'll get a good grade. Attendance is mandatory. Do not use your cell phone in class- he WILL call you out. Funny teacher. Uses modern pop culture in relation to the assignemnts.

Professor Russell is one of the best English teachers out there and I've really not seen anyone else like him. He made me ENJOY taking English class which I've always struggled and hated my whole life. After taking his class, I improved so much in writing/reading that I couldn't even believe it myself. YES his class isn't EASY but you will LEARN!

I'm really pleased with this professor. He's really knowlegeable and well rounded. His class was kind of a lot of work for me, but he was a fair grader. I def. learned a lot. Mr. Russell is a amazing teacher. Honestly I think he should have more hotness ratings on here. He's such a fair grader and very understanding about late work and redos on grades you don't like. Every class he plays songs related to the subjects and even incorporates interesting pieces of history for better understanding. Fabulous teacher!

He's a bit unusual as others have said, but he is a polite/knowledgeable teacher overall. He was hilarious at times as well which I can see how it came off as rude. I'd recommend him.

This review is long overdue but better late than never. Mr. Russell is such a knowledgeable and GREAT English instructor! The use of schema builders in class are a great tool to help you understand the reading assignments. From my experience he is extremely helpful and if you want a good grade you need to work for it. I took Eng 1A & 1B with him.

I Eng 1A over the summer few years ago. Really enjoyed the class. We read Willa Cather, James Baldwin, Zora Neal Hurston, EB White; lots of authors and books I would not normally read but I enjoyed and appreciate the exposure to something I would not normally read. There was a fair amount of work for the class but I enjoyed it and he is very nice.

Great Professor. He uses a different approach to teaching. Utilizing Schema Builders with plenty of audio and visual to keep the class's attention. Show up to class, read the material, and turn in the assigned work and you should be good to go. There is a lot of work, but he wants his students to succeed.

Professor Russell is one of the best English instructors that I've had in my entire life. He quite knowledgeable, very polite, and is always willing to lend a hand. His class made me enjoy English, and I usually do not like this class. You gotta get ready to read though! He gives quizzes and assigns group activities related to the reading!

Mr. Russell is great and passionate English teacher. He wants you to pass. There is a lot of reading, but he gives you enough time to do it. Expect quizzes on what you've read. The five essays are decent lengths (3-4 pages) and very flexible on subject matter. He leaves positive comments on good essays and allows redos of graded essays. Loved him!

If you're scared at first don't be. I was frightened after the first two weeks. I was unsure if I would continue with the class. After a month it became understandable what was being asked of me. Mr. Russell is always available DURING OFFICE HOURS! He is more than willing to sit down with his students. He engages with the class.

Russell is a good teacher. There were a lot of homework given but it's an English class. You must put your time and effort when you're writing an essay because he is a hard grader. I worked hard for that A. It's an easy B, but an A you need to work for it.

He was the best English professor I've had in years. Caring, great feedback, and amazing lectures. I cannot begin to emphasize how much I enjoyed his class and the readings. Be willings to read as there will be quizzes on the readings. Took his class over the summer, and it was amazing.

Russell is very easygoing and teaches a unique way. Will go out of his way to help and responds in a timely manner. You do have to write about 4 papers but he has clear directions. I really like his organization and his humor. When you are absent he send you the material and the agenda via email. Which I think is really nice of him.

Mr. Russell is an awesome professor, since he is very nice, welcoming, and is willing to help students improve their writing abilities in order to succeed in his class. Mr. Russell is a very nice and funny professor. He's approachable in his office hours to help you improve your writing skill. I like how he organizes the tests and grades. He let you do the essays at home and submit them weekly. Therefore, there're tons of homework; however, your have extra time. It's the best for me as English is my 2nd language.

After spending two semesters with Mr. Russell I can honestly say I miss him dearly. Attendance is not mandatory but its such a loss to miss his lectures. He uses a lot of videos to relay his messages and tips in writing. He once said A great performance should move you. Dont be afraid to get creative. Revision is key! Cherish this gem.

If you enjoy the subject, I recommend taking him! He's got a way to make the content more relatable and fun. We took a field trip to Monterey for one of the readings. He loves what he does and helps when he's needed. Show up, read, and do your work- you'll pass with ease.

He is very attentive to his students and actually cares about what his students have to say. He offers help outside of class hours and give you the option to redo assignments for a better grade. Very responsive and a decent grader. If you're looking for an easy zoom class without the hassle or drama. 10/10 recommend

He's great at responding back to emails. Don't be afraid to ask him questions. He is very understanding and more than willing to help you. He gives great feedback to writings, and he appreciates when people participate in class. He even gives them extra points so try to collaborate! He also provides sources that have been very helpful for essays.

Extraordinary professor! Mr. Russell is passionate about his job and cares about his students and their learning processes. He structures his lessons to appeal to all types of learning styles. His lectures are interesting and I learned a lot in the class.

Prof. Russell is one of the best instructors I've had! A sophomore in high school, I was pretty intimidated by a college-level English course but he was great. He replies to emails within a few hours and seriously cares about his students. We do pre-class schema builders where he shares fun things that relate to the assignments. Highly recommend!

Professor Russel is amazing, he is heavy hearted and pushes you to do his best. He gives plenty of extensions to students that need them (i personally didnt need any extensions) he is available twice a week outside of class and will give up his time to help you. He was great at explaining and able to provide background to the reading we did, which made it a lot easier to answer the questions. available outside of class too.

Mr. Russell was a great professor, he had very clear grading, he gives good feedback and is very understanding as long as you get your work done. The assignments are not complicated, they just take time and as long as you read the books assigned you will do good on the assignments and pass the class. Overall a great and nice teacher.

One of the sweetest teachers at Mission! Really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He will do everything in his power to help students, including giving non-strict deadlines. He provides all materials needed fo the class, making the assignments easy to understand and do. Easy A fs.

Professor Russel is one of the best professors at Mission College. He is so caring and not a tough grader. He is easy to communicate with, and if you have any problems, he will do whatever he can to help you. He also accepts late work, so if it gets heavy for you it is okay because he gives you time. I wish I could take his class again!

Super nice and lets students submit late work with no penalty. There are a good amount of assignments but even I was able to complete them all. I turned a lot of them in weeks after the due date and all he cared about was how well I wrote. A lot of the essays ask to include personal aspects of your life which make it interesting. Take his class!

Probably one of the best teachers I've had in college. He really appreciates his students and gives them plenty of time to do essays, ample extra credit opportunities, and is willing to stay after class to help students understand difficult concepts. The only negative thing is that the class readings are all political woke stuff. TAKE HIM EASY A!

My favorite professor ever! I took him for eng1a and then again for 1b because he's just so sweet and helpful. He makes his class super fun and entertaining (music videos, documentary clips, movie clips, etc), and you can tell he's super passionate about what he's talking about. Also gives genuinely good feedback and makes you a better writer.
