You have to do your homework he expect the same hard work he do from you. He really help his students in everything and always give the extra mile. Sometime is rude and tough but only if you deserve it, like been late at class, if you don't do homework ect. If you want to learn if you wanna have fun and good environment, he is the best.
Hey guys just a hint. I do speak Portuguese as my first language and I can tell you guys that although Mr. Sansone is American he speaks Portuguese natively and perfectly. I was so impressed when I saw him at the first time. I couldn't believe that he is American and also a English professor. So, do not go with SPANISH.
The textbook sucks ass and he teaches from it. It doesn't even attempt to make it easy to understand. It's almost like the writers did NOT want you to speak Portuguese, ever. The workbook has exercises in it that weren't covered in the book, and the professor just tells you to do them. It's like, bizarro land or something.
He is a wonderful teacher. Very helpful, and understanding. He will make your class a wonderful experience. By the end of the semester, you will want to go visit Brazil. I loved his class, and I am thinking to continue it in the next semester. I can speak another language than English, and I just started!!!
This professor is a great individual full of culture, i believe having a teacher that travels makes a difference specially went they know different languages, but i do believe he is a difficult teacher they are other ways to learn.
If you really want to lean grammar, he is the one. But if you are taking the class because you need to don't even think about it.
This class was so fun to me that it didn't feel like work. Do the workbook. Be on time. Professor is funny and well traveled and he provides cool extracurricular thingies. If you want to learn the language, this is the class; if you want to pass a test and forget it, go somewhere else. Portuguese is a beautiful language. This is my favorite class.
i think mr. sansone is full of**** he failed me and i feel he pass the student he liked and even when i tried he didn't even cared i hate his class and i think he's a races because he said that one of the student was speaking black english i hated his class.
Whatever you do, DO NOT!! get classes with this teacher, especially grammar classes! He will fail you and he gives WAYYY TOO MUCH work, DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY in this class, get any other teacher but this one, im SERIOUS!!!!! and i dont think hes fair equally to all of the students!!
IS LIKE those who wrote "If you really want to learn, he is the professor" Those people who think that he is HARD is cus these people only come to class to sit there ass and fall asleep, and that is WHY the Prof.is HARDANDRUDE with these students. If you do your work he WILL ALWAYS help you on ANYTHING you need EVEN if is not class related. : )
This is the most interesting and enjoyable class I've taken. I can't recomend Mr. Sansone enough. Portuguese is beautiful. The Brazilians that I've met are awsome. I loved this unique class so much that it hardly ever felt like work. Participation/good attitude are key. I thought that I would never be able to learn another language, but I did.

This professor tries to teach grammer in his way. He forgot what he told me in a week and we had an argument for about 3 weeks over the problem! He said I was lying and never listened, so I just gave up after 3 weeks. He wasn't fair; he gave the grade of F to my classmates after mid-term, and made fun of others. I got an A, but I'm telling you....

Very enthusiastic teacher. Loves what he does! He doesn't expect too much, but won't allow too little either. Highly recommended.
I don't know about his grammar classes, but his speech class is awsome. This is my favorite class, and I love to attend this class. His teaches soo easy, so funny, and very interesting. He knows his subject. His strike, bur fair. He works a lot on do his classes much better what I can't say about some teachers. He force us work hard on English, so I fee

He doesn't know how to explain, he goes so fast, he doesn't give you time to understund and he gives a lot homework and writing
This is a professor with a passion for Portuguese and Brazil...and alot of grace. When he saw we had difficulty with a topic and were bombing the test. He would count it as practice and review the subject again. His passion for this language will affect your own.
This class was so much fun! We went to the Pao Gostoso, Hi Pizza, we saw many Brazilian fillms, Clovis Junior came, the Bate Papos were fun! When I first started I did terribly, but you just have to study, and he helps out a lot! Sansome is great, and I can't wait to go to Brazil!!!
Hes a goood teacher but he picks on you if he knows you don't understand the chapter i felt very uncomfortable in this class. i felt like he didn't care
Professor Ricardo is the BEST university teacher I have had. I can say he works harder and has more passion than anyone I have met in academia, and I recommend his classes to people all the time. If you plan to enroll, be ready to work hard. His high expectations and fun, exciting teaching techniques guarantee you will learn a lot and have fun!
I had him for Portugese and I tell you know, this man is HORRENDOUS and disgusting. I had to leave the country for an emergency and he wanted to drop me imemdiatly (and I was passing and spoke fluently). He gets made when you manage to get ahead and then bashes the students who are behind. He is a ridiculous man who thinks he can own you. TRUST ME!
HE IS SOUR, DON'T TAKE HIM!
Had him for Portuguese and I LOVE HIM .. he is a wonderful professor and really does anything within his power to get his students involved. He is not easy and does make you work but the work isn't tedious and is designed to help you learn. I plan on taking him again. He is the best professor in Valencia.
Professor is RUDE, expects you to speak the language fluently by 1st day of attendance. Favors some students, HATES others, must be a TEACHERS PET to get an A in this class. I recieved low scores on test that I wrote the CORRECT ANSWER on. He is unprofessional and unstable with his mood and attitude as a teacher. PLEASE, do not take this prof.RUN!
The professor is dedicated to teaching and having you learn the language. He is very good at motivating you to learn the language and get acquainted with the culture
Gives lots of work, expects you to be on time and pay attention...JUST LIKE ANY OTHER COLLEGE PROFESSOR! Negative comments are from children who text in class or make jokes when their work isn't done. Great Professor, but you need to at the very least TRY and he's there for you 100%. Also, grow up. "he gives me work..." Boo-hoo! Welcome to college!
Professor Ricardo is AMAZING! I've taken POR I and II, planning to take a third class with him! You will learn so much, and get to REALLy appreciate the language and culture. He is very clear with what his expectations are, and will do anything in his power to help you succeed. GREAT PROFESSOR!
Prof Sansone wants you to learn portugese and love it. He goes a bit fast for english speaker but he offers tutors to help you. His love for Brasil is obvious and will make you want to do well. You have to study and he is not an easy teacher. But he will try not to fail you.
He's a great teacher, all these bad reviews of him are from people who didn't study and gave him the finger behind his back after he expressed being upset with them for wasting his time. I got an A and I'm sure I was viewed as a "Teachers Pet", but I worked my butt off for that A, it wasn't easy and it wasn't given to me. Wonderful professor.
Sansone is one of the best teachers I've ever had. I learned so much in his class, with a lot of studying and eagerness to learn its an easy class. He expects a lot from you so prepare to study and learn a bunch. He doesn't just teach the language he teaches the Brazil culture, and his tutoring is very helpful. Met some amazing people in class too!
You WILL struggle with this class if you don't already speak Spanish. Half of my class failed/dropped out. LOTS of work, quizzes every class, 3-6 presentations, mandatory tutoring, etc. The man also doesn't take well to feedback even when he asks for it - he's set on his teaching style and you'd better get with it. Not recommended. At all.
This is not a class for the faint of heart. If you are shy, introverted, or don't want to work, find a different class. You must be willing to do the work and have thick skin, as he will call out students. He is passionate about the subject and your learning and is willing to help those who are trying. Enjoyable but challenging class; do the work!
The professor is mean. He publically humiliates if you do not understand the material. I worked very hard and could not earn an A no matter what. He is an extremely harsh grader. Unless you're already fluent in spanish do not take this course. He only speaks in portuguese and says many things that were never prev. studied, demanding mastery of info
Great Professor! Rich with knowledge of the Brazilian culture. He conducts his lectures primarily from material covered in our required readings of our textbook. We have voices, and be prepared to speak up cause your participation is high in this class. The Professor and tutors will be there to clear any bump on the road. Boa sorte!=Good luck
This professor is the reason I went back to school. To everyone that has anything negative to say, I respect your opinion, but please ensure it is an educated one. To say he picks on you or calls you out is to point out his teaching style, he expects you to talk, he expects you to participate, to learn. More students should register for his class!!
PROFESSOR RICARDO. IS A NICE PERSON. Very funny and charismatic yet as an instructor of Portuguese He does not bring a style beneficial for a student wi background in Portuguese or Spanish. If you try to take notes during class he will single you out so be WARNED!!hE WILL NOT HELP YOU ONLY SAY GO TO TUTORING IF THAT DOESNT HELP YOUR OUT OF LUCK:
Awesome professor, teaching style not for everyone. Will call you out because he wants you to be a part of his interactive teaching style. Work hard, read ,do the work and it will be an easy A. Be late, skip classes you will be lost very quickly, he moves quick. I recommend this class to everyone who wants to learn Portuguese in a exciting way!!
Professor Sansone is an amazing teacher for Portugese class. He wants you to particiapte in the language so you have to speak alot of portugese in his class. He gives about a pop quiz once a week and there are three oral presenation including a final one which you have to record in the t.v. studio. Great Professor Overall
Have a genuine interest in learning a language? You wont find a better opportunity to do so. If youre in it for a grade, this isnt for you. Richard is TOUGH to prepare you for the reality of learning a new language. Hes fair; if you try, he WILL help you. Im Irish-American yet I regularly get mistaken for Brazilian when speaking with Brazilians now
Extremely rude and unprofessional! If you are not fluent in Spanish do not take this class. He moves along at a very very fast pace and if you do not understand the material he tells you that you are either listening too slow or to go to the tutors who are not there! Publicly bashes students who do not understand! Horrible professor!!!
This is no a regular High School second language class. This is a real learning class, you should be prepare to learn a language in the way is supposed to be. Teacher is not easy because he really prepare students to have some real knowledge not only for the language but to understand the culture and the way of leaving. Be serious!!
I thought this was going to be a really easy class due to the fact I had basic prior knowledge of the Portuguese language, to my surprise this course was very challenging. Although, professor Sansone is not Brazilian he is very knowledgable and passionate about the language and culture. He is very interesting and will immerse you in the culture.
Very inspiring professor! He has genuine intentions to teach all his students how to speak the Portuguese language, and has very impactful lessons thru his teachings as well. It's not an easy course, which allows one to take time and actually learn the material. If you don't study, you will not learn. I repeat, if u do not study, u will not gain!!!
Best professor by far I've ever had. Professor Ricardo Sansone genuinely cares about each student. Likewise, about the importance of learning a second language. He sincerely expects the same passion for learning by his students. Learning a new language takes a lot of effort & he expects no less. If seriously considering go for it you will have fun.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES!! He is rude and inconsiderate of anyone but himself. He humiliates students who don't grasp the concept as quickly as others. He expects EVERY assignment to be signed by a tutor. I began to fail other classes trying to keep up with his ONE class. Terrible. I would never recommend to even my worst enemy.
I have him as a teacher for two classes, because he's the only Portuguese teacher. If I had a choice, and I'd pick another teacher over him. I have an A in the class so I'm doing fine, but don't expect to have respect from him. You won't get it. He is not a nice person, but he can get you To understand the material. good luck to everyone. run now
Had him twice. He's made me and multiple other student in my classes run out crying because he is so rude and disrespectful towards his students. After all, WE are the ones who pay $300 for this class, & HE thinks he doesn't need to care to make you stay in the class. He has good teaching methods, but if you want a respectful teacher it's not him.
his sarcastic but if you wanna learn Portuguese his the way to go teacher
I took a portuguese class in half of a summer semester, 6 weeks instead of 15. It was a lot of work but totally doable. Professor Sansone definitely knows what he is doing and is a great teacher. He has a good sense of humor and engages the class well.
He is truly an amazing professor that goes out of his way to help his students. He looks for outside and inside resources. He does his best as a professor and he is very patient with his students so they master the language.
He is very tough to deal with, he is passionate about what he does. Homework to turn in about every 2 wks & tutor 1hr/week. You will actually meet the people in there and have many fun activities outside of class. Volunteered at every event, actually met great people, made a lot of memories! My first class, a lot of work but I'd do it all again.
I am taking Professor Sansone right now. He's a great professor! He is very passionate about what he's doing. I am usually the shy one in class and I love participating in class he makes his class very fun! I will definitely take him again.
Had this guy for 2 classes. He': good wth grammar, and I'm not saying he has bad teaching skills... he can help a lot and make it fun when he wants to... but he DOES need to offer more respect towards some of the students. Other than that, he is alright.
Ricardo Sansone is a great professor but he demands a lot. If you think you can slide by, unnoticed, do NOT take this course. I have learned more Portuguese in the two months I took this class than I could have ever imagined. He may be tough, but he truly cares about the success of his students.
the prof is great he really cares about his student and is very passionate for what he does. The book work is a pain in the but over all he's fair with his grades and tries to make the class a fun environment for all.
Tutoring is mandatory but other than that, the class is real fun and the professor is interactive. He makes learning Portuguese fun. You can pass with an A as long as you go to tutoring.
He is a good professor but sometimes he demands to much of his students
If you want to learn PortugueseTAKE THIS PROFESSOR! He is very attentive in every class. His lectures are simple. He creates a great atmosphere for every student to learn. He certainty has standards for student to achieve their best. I genuinely respect this professor because he actually cares about his students and their grades.
Great professor. My class had great participation. There are a lot of quizzes but most times he gives them back to correct and return for a better grade which helps with learning. I think it's hard to fail this class. There are class trips! He has a great attitude.
This man is a language genius and expects you to be an aspiring one while in his class. How else are you going to learn to speak a language? The class is fun and challenging, just be careful of the expected load from your other classes. You will be affected by the magnitude of extra time needed to complete the assignments. Solid choice for learning
Proffesor, Ricardo is very unique teacher. He really wants you to succeed!
Really fun but really serious about what he does. if you plan on fooling around you wont pass
Professor Ricardo can be tough at times but that is only because he is very passionate about getting you to learn the language as well as a little bit of the Brazilian culture. It is a very fun class, he makes a relaxing and comfortable environment. He encourages you to make mistakes as that is what helps you learn. Go to monitoria! It helps a lot!
I love, love, love this professor. I have taken 3 classes with him I would take many, many more if they were offered. Learning a language is hard, it requires a lot of practice and training for it to stick to your brain and come out naturally. So he does give you homework and quizes, and you'll have to work. But he's fun, fair, and you will learn!
I m very happy to have Professor Sansone like my teacher I learned a lot from him. He is very dynamic ,correct and teach us very well .
I m very lucky to have Professor Sansone like my teacher. I learned a lot from him . My English was improve and my grammar.
He is a very nice teacher and helpful respectful and make the course so funny but he work hard as he can. The thing i like is that he docent give us to much homework to do and give more quizzes to more practice i will take it for the next semester.
HE IS VERY GOOD, FRIENDLY
He is very unfair on grades , some students that he likes he give them good grades , and others that they do perfect and he doesn't like them they give them low grades . sometimes he talk very rude and mean to students, he doesn't respect what students said, and always discouraged them , and laugh about them when they speak with their accent.
He is a very good professor helpful and respectful
He is a very good teacher ,he is care about the student,he is very helpful. If you looking about a teacher who cares about your education he is the best one.
He is very good teacher
Professor Sansone is very good and respected, he helped us to improve our language and supported us to be successful. I was very lucky when I decided to join this class and if he has another class i will be with him again.
He is really funny and fun but is a tough grader and you will learn a lot not such an easy class a lot of presentations
Professor Ricardo is very passionate about teaching. If you are serious about learning I will highly recommend taking him. Be prepared to read,do oral presentations but it pays off. You are expanding your horizon by learning a new language. I will take him again. I had a great experience learning a new language, and I also met great people.
this good class
He has a good sense of humor and tries his best to help his students (he listens to students feedback). He expects a lot from you. There's workbook, oral presentations, and a lot of group work. I enjoyed this class even if there was a lot to do.
Professor Sansone is probably one of the BEST professors I have had during my AA degree experience at Valencia. I have nervous to learn a new language considering English is the one and only language I knew how to speak, but his Portuguese class has opened a new door for me! He is definitely very caring and passionate about this language. -Luciana
Professor Sansone has many ways to learn, and he helped me to improve my English. He is a great and methodical. he always suggested I should read and learn hard. I have learned a lot of things under professor Sansone.
Most of the students in my class agree that you do have to put up with the daily "roast-sessions" he has on us. He gives weekly quizzes throughout the semester but only counts four of them, if you miss them you can not make them up. There are three oral presentations a midterm and a final. Lesson assignments are done in the workbook.
He is a great professor who really cares deeply for his students. He may be tough and say somethings that are way out there but all in all he is a good professor. The tutoring center will be your sanctuary and the place you should go because it will benefit you the most! Trust me!
The professor's out going manner and his was of teaching has encourage me to do my best, and stay focus. i would be very happy to have him again, because he is patient, and competent.
He is an amazing Professor. I learned more than I expected. I would definitely take another class with him. He challenges his students, so they can succeed.
hard but good
Great professor, lot of ideas and excellent way to TEACH. Hope to have this wonderful man in the future.
He pushes you to do better because he puts much expectation in you, which was great on me because it pushed me to do better, and learn more. Be prepare to work for your grade, and do what he asks, and you'll pass his class. Good professor, and amazing tutor team. Classmates were great as well. Everyone helped each other.
Professor is concerned about the success of the students. Always try to help the students to succeed.
I have learned extremely important things with this class.
He is a nice professor and he really makes you work a lot to improve your writing skills
He is a good professor, you have to work hard. He send a lot of homework, and you need to have a lot of free time to go to the writing center. One of things I'm not agree with is the journal, write 2 pages per day during the semester in too much.
Professor Sansone during the semester was very good. Sometimes I felt that he can't improve her communication with the students and be more specific on what he needs. In addition he should gives more material on the class, this will be easier for students to learn and improve their writing.
Most of the students understand Spanish or already speak Portuguese, this made the class a lot tougher because Spanish and Portuguese are similar and the vocab is a lot alike. Class consists of speaking Portuguese and people who understand Spanish catch on to Portuguese very fast, so some classes we would just speak Portuguese, and I was lost.
He's a great teacher with a real passion for what he does. Always very understanding and helpful, you just need to communicate with him and things will be fine. Apply yourself and show your effort and this class will be incredible. Choose to be lazy, non-communicative, or decide to not show up for class multiple times, expect this class to be tough
He is an excellent professor, he has knowledge. But the criteria of grade inconsistent and some assignments are not useful.
Professor. Richard Sansone is a good instructor. He is enthusiastic about teaching . I want to say that thank you. He gave me lots of motivate to write an essay.
He is very dedicated and involved in the course, he gives out many workbook assignments that are at times excessive but ultimately help you practice. He is very big on attendance and tutoring, both are mandatory to pass the course. Overall he is a good professor.
He's very enthusiastic with what he teaches and clearly loves what he does. He can be a bit tough at times but if you talk to him he's always willing to help and gives many opportunities to try and bring up your grade. There are weekly quizzes and you're required to attend tutoring weekly. He does a lot of of in and out of class activities too.
I respect Richard Sansone. He is a great teacher who provides great feedback. He cares about your learning and future education. He can inspirational at times either about education or politics. You will LEARN Portuguese faster than expected. There are a lot of quizzes but he let's you correct them. Be ready to speak in front of the class.
Be prepared to do a lot of work and get tested everyday. Most of these test are practice but he will take some time from time. He is tough sometimes but he truly cares for the class and you. Study a lot!
Great professor if you want to learn Portuguese. he is tough though.
This is the second semester im taking this professor and overall it a good class. Love that we get to interact with the Brazilian culture. Down side is that you can easily get lost in class. You have to be on your toes, his notes are a little unorganized.
Best teacher. Good rigor to learn with enthusiasm and motivation, this class is the best.
I am very happy I have professor sansone because is a good teacher
I selected this course because I had always wanted to learn Portuguese. Professor Ricardo is an excellent professor who makes the class fun and enjoyable, but maintains the difficulty of the class. I leave this course now wanting more.
He is a caring professor and gives a interesting class that you will never get bored.
I have learn grammar a lot. I enjoyed this class and time that I spent there.
Great teacher!
He is a nice professor and he really makes you work a lot to improve your writing skills. i enjoyed this class.
I learned a lot with the Professor Sansone. He is an amazing professor. The class are funny, he shares examples, knowledge about grammar and rules for write well English.
good professor
He is really helpful and always gives his best. The whole class feels like they're improving their knowledge with Prof. Sansone.
He really makes learning personable instead of generalized. The class is fun because the professor encourages the students to commune rather than just having you sit there and having you read off of a power point.
If you have great foundation on grammar and how to write, choose his class.
Professor Sansone is a great professor. He is very passionate about the class, therefore one must not slack. He can be sassy though, very sassy and it may come off as being mean, but it's not. He just cares about your participation and you being successful.
He is the BEST PROFESSOR I could and will ever have. He is an excellent professor because he helps his students in EVERYTHING. He makes students enjoy his classes because he is very dynamic. You'll learn with him more than just a language, & you'll enjoy going to class. He inspires to keep learning more. You won't regret any second spent in class.
Sansone is a great Professor, besides the bunch of homework.
Professor is a great teacher who does all he can to help his students succeed in learning portuguese. Highly recommend him for anyone who is prepared to work for their next language.
My biggest concern is not being able to access tutors for this course that are required by the professor to be able to turn in anything accept a test. Professor Ricardo gladly accepts tests and never accepts homework that has not been checked by a tutor. The issue is that there are 50+ students with 5+ chapters and 20+ pages per chapter. 2 tutors.
Prof Sansone he is a great teacher. He has a lot of experience and has a good knowledge about speeches from other countries. When we read something, he knows where our accents are from and corrects us to read the right English way even he is not my speech teacher. I really appreciate that. That was really helpful.
Best professor, best class hands down. Professor Sansone is clear about students giving him their grades, not him 'handing them out'. He is very wise and has a lot of experience (speaks 5+ languages.) He encourages us to engage in activities/events outside of class and that has made all the difference between his class and any other at Valencia.
Professor Sansome was a good teacher, its just so much work you have to put into spanish. He doesnt care you have other classes to study for which makes it harder. STUDY STUDY STUDY is all i can say, learning a new language is hard!!!!!
Excellent professor. Very few times you get to have such a good professor who is so caring about his students and that really wants them all to succeed in his class. He creates a good environment where youre constantly practicing your language skills but your never afraid of making a mistake because of how comfortable you feel in the classroom.
prof. sansone is fantastic, he is a wonderful person who cares about his student's engagement with the language they are learning. his passion for languages is clearly conveyed in the way he teaches his classes. will be taking a second course with him next smemster/.
The professor is wonderful, and funny. He expects you to put work in though. Study, practice, and you will not have an issue. He cares about his students doing well, but its up to you to put the work in.
he is awesome
Awesome professor, really cares about his students. A lot of HW but he is flexible and helps out with whatever he can.
If you are looking to expand your knowledge of another language and really experience and understand the culture and language this is the class to take. Great professor, who expects the best efforts from his students. Do not expect an A, you must earn it but it is not difficult. Take the class, take this professor. You will not regret it.
Professor is a great teacher, I took him for Portuguese and it was a great choice. You should take him for this class because he helps out a lot if you need it.
#Hilarious #AccesibleOutsideOfClass #WouldTakeAgain #Inspirational #ParticipationMatters I took this class because my aunt is from portugual so she inspired me to learn portuguese. I also took it because even though I do need the foreign language requirement to be fulfilled, I'm also taking it because I love portuguese, I think its fun. Take him!
He is a great professor he is very energetic, He enjoys teaching Spanish I highly recommend having some sort of prior knowledge. He will work with you with what you give him, as in show up to tutoring show him you care and he will show it back.
He is a great professor he is very energetic, He enjoys teaching Spanish I highly recommend having some sort of prior knowledge. He will work with you with what you give him, as in show up to tutoring show him you care and he will show it back.
Professor loves what hes doing. He helps us better our Spanish.
He is a great teacher in my opinion, but I do think that the homework that is done online, is rather excessive. But I learned a lot from him, and he has a lot of knowledge and experience.
Professor Sansone is a great professor. Attendance is mandatory! You do have up to three times to be absent before you are withdrawn, but I do not advise you to miss that much class time as we have quizzes almost every class, but only certain ones are taken for a grade and it is not available for retakes.
tough grader
The most difficult part of the class would be keeping up with work on the website. The website is 20% of your grade, and is due weekly, with about 10 hours of work per week. This must still be completed on top of other assignments from his class. Aside of that, Professor Sansone is a good professor.
Really funny dude, do your work and pass
He goes through your stuff, very energetic,
He is very animated, gives lots of homework, and really wants his students to succeed.
This professor is very dedicated to teaching his students. Though, he does give out lots of assignments, and requires that you see a tutor, signed and dated, outside of the class or he wouldn't grade the paper. He is full of energy and there's lots of activities in the class to help better our understanding to learn the language.
Requires students to go to the tutor even to get things signed even though the tutors schedule is only 4 days a week from about 12-5. Impossible for working students.
I would not personally recommend to take Professor Sansone, The only reason why i took his class is because of rate my professor. After finishing the course I learned that he makes it mandatory to leave reviews of his class in order to receive extra credit at the end of the semester. Also do not take this class if you do not have flexible hours.
Very passionate about teaching languages. Has a standard set of rules, show up on time, speak in class and you will be fine. Will not judge you for making mistakes but will correct you, don't confuse the two. Gives you a chance to correct quizes. You are the one who earns the grade he does not give a grade.
He is a great professor! His class is very interactive and requires a good amount of daily participation to pass. Overall even though i put his grade level at a 4 its an easy class if you listen. He is also funny and creates a positive atmosphere that pushes you to want to be better.
ATTEND CLASS. LOADS OF WORK. Participation is key. 3 speeches throughout the semester. Takes off points with any mistakes he finds on your paper. However, he is a great professor and I ended up learning more than I expected. If you truly want to learn Spanish, he's your guy. BEWARE he will try to initiate you in his Portuguese class...
The professor is OK
He is a very tough on getting you to try to learn the language. Even the people with not a clue for anything can Spanish if you show up to class and put effort. The only ones who fail are the only ones who don't try at all. He gives out a quiz almost class but most of them aren't graded, he honestly just wants you to learn real Spanish. Hes awesome
Professor sansone pushes students to do their best
The professor is good
Makes coming to class fun and is hilarious, and will pinpoint who in the class might need more assistance than others. You will have to work for your grade regardless of whether you know the language. Requires a lot of commitment outside of class as well because honestly that is what is needed to actually learn a new language.
he is a good teacher easy A as long as you follow the syllabus
He is amazing, and a very good professor. You will learn and have fun at the same time.
cares about his students. fun class.
He is an awesome professor, I'm almost fluent in Portuguese just with two semesters with him. Definitely recommended if you really want to learn !!
Professor Ricardo cares about his student's learning the language and his methodology is very effective
Professor Sansone has made my semester taking Portuguese I, so easy and fun! I enjoyed every class and was able to learn in depth the language. Professor Sansone is a caring teacher and will give you the feedback you need in order to better yourself and pass. As long as you attend almost all his classes, you will surely be able to pass.
he is a good person , gives plenty of chances
The professor makes the class interesting and interactive so that everyone can learn.
Prof. Sansone is an amazing professor! He makes learning super fun and engaging. He WILL put you on blast though, so you always have to be prepared and on time. Tutoring and attendance is mandatory. The only thing I really disliked about the class was that you're required as a grade to go to tutoring and have homework/ presentations signed.
Professor Ricardo is truly amazing. He is incredibly helpful & cares about his students. He works around your schedule, you can always go to his office for extra help and/or concerns. Attendance & tutoring are mandatory but he truly makes you WANT to go to class! Beware of pop quizzes!! Always study & pay attention and you'll do fine! Love him!!!
Professor Ricardo is the best! I took Elementary Portuguese I with him and it was the most fun and dynamic class I have ever taken! He also brings Brazilian coffee occasionally, which I really really dig. If you want to learn Portuguese, you will learn it with him!
Fun class
Tutoring is mandatory to get the all the homework signed, otherwise he will not take your assignments to give you credit.
Great professor! You have workbook homework due (about 5 lessons) in a semester and he collects them at a specific time. We have 3 oral presentations during the semester and the last one is recorded here at Valencia. You HAVE to go to tutoring, it really helps and he takes attendance to monitoria for a grade. There is also a midtrerm and final.
Very invested in his students! Recommend professor Ricardo for anyone trying to learn Portuguese!
O professor Ricardo é o melhor, Take him!
Professor Ricardo is really dedicated to his students, That's why I recommend him to study any language that he gives. He is an excellent teacher,he is very creative and focus to each of his students. I'm really happy with his job, and surelly would take another class with him.
As with Portuguese 1120, I loved this class and the activities outside of the classroom. You end up speaking Portuguese. Highly recommended.
I have taken Professor Sansone, for a 3rd semester. He is incredible and expects nothing but 100% effort / self-discipline from his students b/c he teaches this class simply for our benefit and not his own. B/c of him I have developed a passion to continue learning this language and will be traveling to Brasil this summer to perfect my Portuguese.
Professor is a well respected man. From what ive heard he is very well known. Though, you ought to respect someone whether or not they're known on a regional, national or global scale. Anyhow, the class was very rewarding. The level of difficulty was the usual. My vocab bettered due to professor's method of teaching. I am very blessed for him.
Professor Ricardo really wants you to do well in his class. Tutoring is mandatory, the monitors are great! There is a huge focus on working with peers. You will have class presentations, a workbook that goes with your reading and regular tests though not all of them are graded. He makes little espressos in class! There will be singing and dancing!
Very attentive towards students.
Be prepared to work hard when your in this class, He's an excellent teacher but he will make you work for it.
Professor Sansone has a very fast teaching style that is understandable if you're a fast learner and unfortunately will get left in the dust if you don't try hard to keep up. The material that is taught to you will come at you 100 mph and there is no time to slow down and go over what you learned, that's not part of his agenda. Its all up to you
Professor Sansone is a great instructor. He is very clear about goals, expectations, and learning goals. It is not an easy class effort is going to be needed, but he is fair and will give you the tools needed to succeed. You have to put the work in though.
I wouldn't recommend this professor for anyone who gets easily offended. All material for the semester is given at once, and if you are not organized, you will fail. Must study before class, otherwise you will have no idea what he is saying. Even if you do study, his "lectures" are often confusing. He can also be unprofessional at times.
Professor Sansone is amazing! He's a very good professor, and he's caring. He wants his students to pass the class and know the language while having fun. There is a lot of homework , but nothing that you can't keep up with. He also gives you opportunities to ameliorate your grade. If you're thinking about taking Portuguese, take him!
Prof Sansone is great but his class requires a lot of time. He has AMAZING activities out of class and he is very fun! Definitely take it if you are willing to learn Portuguese.
Mandatory tutoring demands way too much time. In addition, classes will always be dragged out longer than the class is supposed to be. The teacher, however, is very passionate.
Professor Sansone is an excellent teacher. If you want to actually learn to speak Spanish, take him. He sincerely cares about his students' success. He made sure we were prepared to excel, but you will have to earn your grade. I learned so much more than I expected and really appreciated how fun he made every class.
This professor is very good in what he is doing. He really cares about people because it is in his nature. However, you have to do your work in order to see all of that. You get graded based on what you do.
He is very hands on and receptive to student issues.
Mr. Sansone is passionate about education and Portuguese. You must buy the book and go to every class. There are a lot of quizzes and if you are absent, you are not able to make up the quiz. Tutoring on campus is required. I like Mr. Sansone, he is funny and makes learning fun. We use a lot of partners and group learning. However, he is tough.
He gives a lot of homework that must be checked by a tutor or it doesn't count. Which is understandable because it takes a lot of work to learn a new language. Do not take this class if you are taking more than 3 classes. The work required for this class can really overwhelm you especially if you don't know any Portuguese.
The class is great, you will definitely learn some Portuguese. The professor can be very comprehensive but also he can also be very indifferent regarding your outside class problems. Be ready to work, and so a lot of work outside of class, like going to tutoring and doing some extra activities.
He is a wonderful professor and you can see his passion for teaching but if you have a busy schedule and cannot make it to school any other time than your scheduled class time then you'll have a hard time because everything turned into him has to be checked and signed by a tutor. He is very strict on attendance and phones and he will call you out.
Professor Richard is a good professor and will assist you if you ask. He gives clear and concise answers to any question you have regarding the course. He does give daily quizzes, but not all are taken for a grade and you can bring up your grade through corrections. The course is challenging but he helps out as much as he can.
professor Ricardo is an amazing professor and person! he cares for all of his students and always goes the extra mile! he offers chances to retake quizes and assignments and is pretty lenient with late work sometimes, he believes that you give him grades not the other way around. also be prepared to eat because you will be going to eat well
Good and caring professor, constantly trying to make events and figure out fun ways for students to learn (games, songs). Be on time , show up to class and ALWAYS have your book with you. Quizzes are on almost every class, but not all of them count for a grade (there are no make ups on the quizzes but he drops the lowest grade).
He makes the class fun and takes us on great field trips.
Awesome professor will definitely help you expand your knowledge and ability to be able to communicate with others in Portuguese. Be ready to work and participate in class. This is not an easy A (unless you're Brazilian) you have to work and study for an A. Totally worth it as i'm now able to communicate with other in Portuguese.
This professor is really good. He is tough and demanding but he knows what he's doing and he cares about the students actually learning. he expects a lot from his students but he's fair when it comes to evaluating. i would recommend you take his class, he always try to make the class interesting which is good.
he is cool
He's such an amazing professor who makes you want to learn the language and actually go to class. He is very caring - if you need extra time on something, let him know in advance and he will work something out with you. He is tough but if you study and go to class you will do fine!
Professor Ricardo is such an amazing professor! He will do absolutely everything he can for you to actually learn the language. He brings us cultural things from specific countries and inspire us to participate in amazing events on campus. His class is so much fun and he is hilarious, always treating his students with respect. Not an easy A though.
Professor Sansone is amazing. Expect to free one hour each week to visit the tutoring lab where you have to get your homework signed before submitting. There are regular quizzes where some are graded and others are just for practice. He drops your lowest quiz.
Professor Sansone is amazing. He actually cares if his students are learning the language and doing well on his class. He will do anything to make sure that you are learning the language and enjoying the class.
Professor Sansone is one of the most caring teachers. Be prepared to work but you will learn so much in this class. He makes his class interactive from time to time were he incorporates activities to help express yourself better in Portuguese. I seriously recommend this class he is super fun. I will be taking part 2 with him!
Can be difficult at times
Professor Ricardo is awesome!
Hes an Awesome Professor that almost feels like he came out of a movie about a great professor who inspires his students. Highly recommend this class
I would gladly take this course again.
Professor Sansone is a very effective teacher. Learning a new language is very difficult, he makes sure that you have all the support you need. His class consists of Text, Workbook, and Videos for assignments, and a variation of foreign media and social interaction with the community. You get out what you put into the class. So be prepared to work.
Awesome professor and I highly recommend this course. The classes are very interactive, he takes the students out to explore the Brazilian community - get ready for lots of food involved. Very understanding, respectful, engaging and goes out of his way to help his students - However, don't be late for his class! I'll be taking POR 1121 with him!
Weekly quizzes are given to reinforce your knowledge, and sometimes are given as a practice to prepare you for the tests. Also, tutoring is available to help you to complete your work book, and outing activities are part of this amazing journey to learn Portuguese. You will be speaking & writing Portuguese before semester ends. Guarantee!
He is a really chill professor. Attendance is a BIG DEAL. He's not very understanding when it comes to absences, and does tend to make a big deal of it front of the class. Class always gets out late too. He does give lots of chances to improve test scores and such. It's a fun class overall. If you do the work and participate, you'll be fine.
He is a good professor and alerts you ahead of time when something is due. The quizzes that he gives in class can be corrected in order to get a higher grade on them.
Great class to take for learning a new language with a professor that cares!
Professor is very passionate about teaching. If you put in the effort you will learn. Hard class, but professor helps you when ever you need it
Great class to take, just study.
Expect to be working throughout the semester but not all assignments are graded. Some daily quizzes are graded but they will prepare you for the graded exams. Lots of oral presentations are given throughout the course so you will have to beat that fear. A solid Spanish base will help a lot so try to have this before taking the course.
NEVER take him
he is REALLY passionate about the language & wanting the students to learn/love it which is a good thing! BUT can be pretty mean in regards to grading, no points for effort and even if you have an excuse he wont take it. not really too helpful which turns off the desire to learn, and turns into only doing it for the grade.
Awesome class, you will learn the language. Be prepared to stay 10 minutes later than the scheduled time and dedicate 1 hour a week to the tutors who are awesome and helpful.
First of all just learn a language it is very beneficial for your future endeavors in life, but if you do decide to learn Portuguese i definitely recommend that you take this class. From my 2 semesters in portuguese i have learned more portuguese than i probably would've on my own. Professor Sansone makes the learning experience fun & interactive.
You can tell from the first day of class that he loves what he does. His classes are always dynamic, he finds new ways to improve the learning experience and I never got bored. I am taking Portuguese II this summer and Portuguese III on Fall. You also get to go to places were you interact with people who speak the language! Best class hands down!
I took Português 1 & 2 with him. He is very nice as a first impression, but he is rude and sometimes will put you on the spot, in a disrespectful way. He teaches well and honesty your best learning resources here are the tutors and the Brazilians that decide to take the class. The class becomes a family and you make amazing friendships.
This Professor is funny, inspirational, and passionate. I took Port 1 and he would say "I encourage you to make mistakes for correction". I would have failed if he hadn't encouraged me to try. He will love you if you're truly interested in learning from him. A very sweet man he is for making it clear that "Portuguese isn't Spanish with an accent."
If you're looking to actually learn another language, this professor will push you in a fun a creative way. He will challenge you through practice through daily quizzes on what you should know by now, and give you plenty of opportunities to see where you went wrong and to correct for a better grade. They're more of a gauge of where you are.
I would totally recommended because professor Richard has a good energy to teach and also he cares that you learn the language and he helps you to practice more and more to become better on the language. The strategies that he has to teach are excellent because you wont get bored. the class has a lot of interaction involve to keep you awake.
Great style of teaching, but be careful if you take this as a half-semester course. The speed of the class is too fast and the amount of work is too much for a foreign language class, but you will learn for sure. Make sure you study the concepts! Prof Richard is a bit eccentric; make sure to take notes on important dates / homework due dates.
I took this over the summer, as a flex class. It was very fast, but do-able. The professor is very engaged and makes learning fun. Be ready for daily quizzes, only some are taken for a grade. You must study & read ahead to be ready in class. The professor makes the class very comfortable. He is great, but strict. Don't be late and you must attend.
It's a great class and he really is a great teacher. You become part of a community.
beware that it's a new language for some, so it's gonna be challenging and you have to participate and you'll have quizzes very often, but they really help you practice. The class is very interesting, you'll have the chance to interact with Brazilians outside of class and learn about the Brazilian's culture and community
Loved every minute of it. No time to get bored in this class. Professor Richard knows and loves what he does. Taking this class was the best choice ever!
Professor Richard will always want you to do more and learn the most you can. he is very passionate about his work and he loves having students that are dedicated to learning a language he teaches.
Be prepared to take daily quizzes but not all for a grade and they will help for the real one. There will be public speaking every day but it will help your fluency in Portuguese. It is the MOST or one of the most fun courses that you can take at Valencia. There is work every day so be ready to set A LOT of time for this course!
This is a very difficult class to pass if you don't have any knowledge of the language or Spanish. It is pretty fun, but you do get put on the spot a lot and it will be obvious if you're not studying. A lot of people drop out of this class so beware. The amount of homework/workload is insane. He's the only one that teaches this class.
This course has been one of the most fun I have taken at Valencia. There are daily quizzes but not all are for a grade. There will be public speaking but it will help you for your final presentation. There is work every day.
Professor Sansone's class is difficult, especially if you are learning Portuguese as a second language. Despite this, he was one of the best professors I've had. He is fair, but he makes you work for this class. DO NOT take his class if you're looking for an easy A in Foreign Language. This will take up most of your free time, but it's worth it.
This professor had great energy in the class. There are quizzes every class but it helps learn the material better. As long as you pay attention in class and do the work you should be good when it comes to the grade. The class environment is very light.
class is great quizzes every day but theyre arent that difficult. Lots of homework kind of annoying but it does help alot. Problem is the the extra homework, like the bate papos. He is very forgiving and great to have as a teacher
I took Spanish 1 on Mondays for three hours, so he had a lot of stuff to teach for the one day a week. He made sure that he utilized the entire class. Make sure to study, use the website and practice the creaciones before you present in front of the class. The tests aren't difficult, just very writing heavy so make sure your grammar is practiced.
Prof Sansone is absolutely there to teach but he is very fast and expects you to get what he is saying the first time he says it. He tries to be funny but most of the time it is rude and disrespectful. Great person but not everyones cup of tea as a professor.
Because we only met once a week, Professor Sansone expected us to work on the supersite and learn most things on our own outside of our class time. We spent the time in class doing weekly quizzes, group activities, and reviewing the sections. We were assigned 3 separate class presentations, 1 of which we had to take in the video production studio.
He was a great teacher & i wish he taught Spanish 2. It is a class that requires ALOT of work and dedication because we only met once a week. Overall hes very interactive & it was a fun class i enjoyed. I dont think its for someone who doesnt know Spanish at all, opt for a class that meets twice a week. I already knew Spanish so this class easy
As a student working with him in and outside of the classroom I can say his personality is hard to deal with. He is a condescending professor so have a tough skin when he puts you on the spot. I wish he respected students time and lives outside of class. He makes this very apparent by strict tutor requirements. Would not recommend.
100% recommend taking Professor Sansone. During the pandemic he gave all his students plenty of time to catch up on assignments and always wanted the best for all of us. Will be taking Port 2 this semester with him. Great personality and never lost my attention.
You determine your own grade in this class. If you do the flip grids and homework, you'll pass easily. I got a B because I didn't participate as much as other students and missed a quiz. He gives plenty of time to catch up on missed assignments such as MYLab. Isn't a tough grader and is very compassionate. I'd recommend his class!!!
Learning a language is never easy. For this or any other class, I discourage "virtual" learning. Face-to-face is the only way to go. If you're having trouble in his class, tutoring is always available. There's work, but is isn't that hard. Do the work, and you will pass (and learn) Português!
Amazing professor, very passionate about his work and it shows. He goes the extra mile, and it makes learning a new language fun and interesting. He wants everyone to have success in his class and leaves you with enough tools to do so. I will be taking his class next semester and I recommend him to any student.
Let's get this straight, the professor is great and yes at times he can be a bit irritating. BUT if you do your work and put in effort you will pass. This class is not an easy A, Prof. Ricardo covers a lot in each lesson and goes really fast, but his teaching methods are really great. Take advantage of the opportunities he gives and go to tutoring!
Professor Sansone has a marvelous way of teaching a new language that you won't find in most language professors. He is caring and is committed to your success. Doing all of the assignments will help you prepare for every test and class participation. You have only one excused absence. Asks questions! You will need the physical textbook.
I love his classes and him as a professor, never seen such a caring and responsive teacher. He tries to do everything to make his course as fun and interesting as possible. Not only a teacher but also a life adviser, would recommend it to anyone who actually wants a knowledge and not just a grade.
Probably the best professor I have ever had in my life. He really made me want to do better, not just his class, but all my classes. The course itself was not hard as long as you put the time in, there are tons of opportunity to do well in this class. If you want to learn Portuguese and you don't take Prof. Sansone you are doing it wrong.
This is the best class I have taken my entire Valencia experience. I love Professor Sansone. He is interactive, super caring, fun, and really cares about helping you understand/ learn the language. Collaboration matters in order to truly learn and become better at speaking Portuguese. He is very passionate about you succeeding, I'm taking him again
Professor Ricardo is by far the best professor I've ever had. His unique way of teaching made my experience learning Portuguese so much fun! I would definitely recommend taking this course face to face and attending all the virtual events and go to the Brazilian Pizzeria. This class was more than just a credit, it'll be in my heart forever!
Great professor
Very respectable and professional professor.
Professor Ricardo will always be my favorite professor here at Valencia. I love the outside class events such as the pizzeria and the paderia. His class is very fun and interesting, but skip class and you wont pass. Attendance is mandatory and if you skip class more than one time your grade drops one letter. But besides that love this class overall
keep in mind this is a hard class, but if you study and apply your work, you can pass it. Take advantage of tutoring.
If you want to actually learn Portuguese I would take this professor. Ig you are trying to just get your language credits don't bother you are wasting his time.
Professor Ricardo is caring, energetic, and will do anything to help you grow and learn in his class. He is constantly doing things to keep you involved and interested in the class. He is really helpful when it comes to missing an assignment and gives you many opportunities to achieve a good grade, you need to put in the work though.
Prof. Ricardo (Sansone) is amazing. His stats speak for themselves. You need the book & code (paired), but you use the same book and online access for POR 1 & 2 saving money. Lots of work, but VERY forgiving with late work. Take face-to-face, not online. Lots of class engagement, don't be afraid to mess up. You can fix bad grades in tutoring. 10/10
Great class and even better professor, 100% recommend to anyone wanting to learn Brazilian Portuguese.
Professor Ricardo is one of my favorite professor's. He really has his student's best interests. He wants his students to succeed. It's more important what you learn in the course rather than just worrying about a grade. I would 100% recommend Portuguese to anyone especially with this professor.
Class and professor were just ok. He's passionate about the language, yes, but spends the first 30 mins. of class rambling on about things that don't matter and could be an email instead of teaching. He asks you for feedback but is very defensive if you say something he doesn't agree with. Expects you to show up on campus even if you are online.
Professor Ricardo builds a community with activities outside class and you meet students from other classes. The tutors, Thays and Silvia, are amazing. There are several class presentations which are stressful if you are timid. He gives you chances to make up missed assignments. This class requires work and practice but you will learn a lot.
Professor Ricardo was really kind and dedicated to teaching Portuguese to his students. I took him RTV for Portuguese 1 and am currently taking him F2F for Portuguese 2. He teaches really well along with a textbook and gives great practice assignments. Prepare yourself for presentations, even if you're RTV, he makes them flipgrids. Great professor!
Professor Sansone is a great Portuguese teacher, especially if you take his face to face classes. The class is very engaging and he makes it easy to ask questions and participate. Attendance plays a heavy role so make sure you go to every class, and as long as you turn in assignments and pay attention in class, you'll be fine.
Professor Ricardo is a very good teacher. He helps you with pronunciation, gives extra credit and it's a super easy class, this is my first year with him and of course, I'm taking Portuguese II with him to learn more of the language. It is also a very fun environment. Highly recommended.
Professor Ricardo has been amazing! A very good Professor he is very enthusiastic to teach you the language and is willing to be there for his students. I would recommend taking him face to face to get the full experience of learning the language. Excited to take Portuguese II with him, favorite Professor thus far!
Prof ricardo is a very passionate teacher and he expects you to be as passionate about learning Portuguese as he is about teaching it, if youre looking for an easy A, this isnt the place, but if you really wanna learn Portuguese i couldnt recommend him more
Professor Richard is a professor that cares about his students learning, take his class if you are serious about learning the language Portuguese. He will make learning a new language fun and culture intriguing. you will get a lot of quizzes but he allow you to make up your grades with them so you can learn your mistakes and raise your grades.
Professor is very active and positive person. He is happy to interact with his students to help them in any way he can, but it's up to the individual at the end of the day. Put in the work and you'll reap the benefits. Remember, working on it outside of class helps familiarize and strengthens your skills. Boa sorte!!
He is an amazing professor. He pushes you to be a great student and to learn the material. His grading is clear as day and attendance is key because if you miss a day you miss a whole lot.
Professor Sansone is very passionate about the material and gives helpful feedback. He is very forgiving regarding missed assignments and allows in class tests to be revised for a better grade, though only within a limited timeframe. Attendance is required, but the class has a lot of optional events for practice (with free food!).
Overall he is amazing and actually the class is super fun and dynamic and I promise you will have a lot of fun. There is a lot of work but is easy work you willl have fun!
Best Professor ever. If you really want to learn, take him. He makes learning supper fun, he also offers many activities and food =) The team is super nice and caring.
The professor gives a moderate amount of work, but putting time and effort into the course helps too. Also, going to Portuguese tutoring made me understand the course better when it came to the grammar and preparing for the various presentations. There is also a required book that has all the information you might need throughout the semester.
Good professor, if I had the opportunity again, I would take him. Amazing activities and lot of fun.
Professor Sansone was a vert good professor who cares about his students, but if you dont study it will become very difficult for you. Attendance was mandatory and you would only have one excused absence, and if you were to miss more he would drop a letter grade. To learn Portuguese he is an amazing teacher and i do not regret taking his class.
The professor is very passionate about his students learning Portuguese. You will be given lots of work, tests, quizzes, and speeches. This is not the class to take if you want an easy A. This class requires a lot of dedication, but as long as you are willing to put in the work, you will enjoy it. His class was the highlight of the week.
Professor Ricardo is very passionate about his class. He definitely has been teaching Portuguese long enough to provide u w enough resources to learn. he forgets that this is an elective course and some of us work full time jobs and are full time students. Work load can get out of hand, dedicating 2hr a day soley to this class which isn't possible.
Class was mostly just watching movies and writing opinions on them. Free food every class to go along with the movie. What exactly we needed to write about the movies was a bit unclear at first, but the professor helped clear it up for us. Fairly easy going class, no hard assignments.
He is an amazing professor and the best part of his course was the evens he created and inspired us to participate and it was amazing.
Professor Sansone is a great and caring professor. He takes his time making sure all his students understand the subject. He also provides many outside opportunities and events for extra credit and to increase your learning.
Professor is very demanding in class because he wants you to learn 100% , be focus on class, he is also willing to help you if you have the commitment to do goo in class.
I'm a native Portuguese speaker, I really only had trouble with writing. He's very arrogant and ignorant and don't forget passive aggressive! He's an okay teacher, he pushes you in ways you need to be pushed while trying to learn a new language. Tutoring is practically mandatory, for presentations you need it signed by a tutor.
He is an amazing professor. He will make sure that you learn with a lot of practice, tutoring, homework, and outside activities. He does not give a lot of homework and mostly are easy to do if you study and dedicate your time studying Portuguese. He is caring person in class and makes fun activities to learn. 10/10!
hes a really good professor and he gives many many opportunities to fix your grades on assignments you didnt do so well on even on the quizzes we have chances for corrections. He is kinda strict on grading though and there are quizzes at the end of almost every class. But theyre not to bad. He also occasionally makes the class coffee.
I wish Mr. Sansone's class lasted for ever, he teaches more than a language, he teaches culture; you really get to experience Brazilian culture in all the aspects. This course is not for people that just want to get done the foreign language requiremen. if you are one of those people, don't even think about enrolling.
This class was very good, the professor teaches very good although the class is a little bit difficult but that is because the professor wants us to learn very good Portuguese.
Professor was respectful of all students. He uses the textbook a lot and also makes us take notes as well. He is also accommodating to students who need help. He grades pretty easy if you make the effort and not leave blanks. Overall I enjoyed his class.
He always cares on making sure you understand the content and will correct you so you are able to learn and reflect on the material. He is tough sometimes but it's just because he wants you to succeed.
Professor Sansone is an engaging teacher who brings Brazilian culture to life. Attend class, use the free textbook, and try unstuckstudy ai - it can really help with studying. The workload is manageable if you stay on top of it.
Terrible professor. Do not take him unless you already know Spanish or Portuguese. He will belittle you in the middle of class if you don't know a vocab word and will call you out. Tutors are also barely available even though he pushes you to go to them. Tutors are not very responsive either. Save yourself the trouble.
If you'll do the loads of work then you'll be fine. He's not super respectful and very hit or miss depending on the day. I'm in between telling you to take him and not. He teaches a lot of good things so you'll learn a ton and he has a lot of extra credit.
He's a good teacher if your goal is to learn the new language. If you're just taking it for a language credit, stick with Spanish. He doesn't understand if you have personal issues going on, he expects you to do whatever it takes for the class. Good teacher but he doesn't respect your time. THE TUTORS WILL SAVE YOU.
Please take the other lower-rates into consideration. He is a wonderful teacher, but he is way too overwhelming for people just beginning to learn the language. If you already know Spanish or Portuguese... and a LOT of time on your hands, you will succeed. Beginner friendly, but also not if you don't immediately get the information the first time.
Really good professor! He wants you to learn and succeed but if you're taking with no prior knowledge in Portuguese it will be difficult for you. I took the mixed mode class but I noticed a major difference with how much I knew compared to the 2 day a week class. Not much time to prepare between speeches and he goes very fast throughout class.
I'm sorry, but he genuinely expects too much from an elementary-level class. Tutors were literally no help, and they were just as stubborn as he was. Also, they never ever answer you back. proud to say I cheated a LOT and passed with a C+. If you don't want someone to critique you for trying ur best, pls dont take this class! H8 him! Never again!!
Professor Sansone is one of the best teachers I've ever had in my life. He is committed to education and expects the same level of commitment in return. This is not an easy A, but it is a priceless class. The many fun, engaging and unique events truly enhanced the experience. He will get you to push yourself and grow, and you will love him for it!
I would not recommend this course to anyone who's just looking for an easy class, as there is a lot of work involved. But for anyone who is truly interested in learning Portuguese, this course is an amazing opportunity to do so. Throughout the course there are a lot of opportunities to practice the language outside of class.
If you truly want to learn the language, then his classes are the ones you will do. They are hard, harder than a typical class, but if you're passionate about Portuguese, that will be no issue. You will quickly learn it with this class. Just remember, these are 4 credit classes. That means that this is a commitment, a bigger one than a usual class.
He is a very good professor. I am speaking in Portugues with only 1 semester !!
Great class and wonderful professor! Here is what's coming for you: 1. daily quizzes (you can better your grade if you talk to a monitor) 2.Trips are not mandatory but they will help you A LOT in your comfortability while speaking the language. 3. "Portañol" will be call out if you are a Spanish speaker and he might hurt your feelings.Would retake!
Happy he retired because that means he's gone from VC. He does not listen or care about students or their GPA. He works by taking advantage of his power as a Professor and being disrespectful. The class is easy but dealing with him had to be the most annoying part of it. Take something else, he makes the class miserable
