Even if you aren't an anthro major, you should take his Intro to Cultural Anthropology, or one of his upper level classes. He is one of the funniest profs you will have, and he can entertain a 400-person lecture hall like nobody's business.

Scaglion is an awesome teacher. he makes class interesting but u still learn well.

Possibly the best teacher that I've ever had. He makes the subject matter really interesting and he tells a lot of jokes. The class is pretty easy too.

Dr. Scaglion is by far the best teacher at the university of pittsburgh, and the only teacher I have even remotely enjoyed. Even if your not an anthro major, you cannot leave this university without taking one of his classes... and he's HILARIOUS!!!!!

decided to take anthro even though i didn't know what it was... it was the best decision i've ever made!! scaglion makes class interesting and i have yet to fall asleep... i love his stories about the abelam... i recommend this class to everyone!

Dr. Scaglion is very entertaining to listen to, and a great guy overall. His tests, however, are pretty difficult. Make sure you read the text book, and pay close attention to lectures!

Scaglion is the absolute best professor I've ever had. It helps that he's actually had experience with the Abelam in Papua New Guinea, and worked with their government, etc. Also, he's extremely funny and is always telling stories. I tell everyone to take his classes.

Scaglion is hands down the best teacher I've ever had-in fact, I'm taking another class from him now. He isn't too challenging if you study, but he is REALLY interesting-you won't skip his lectures. The best thing about him, though, is his laugh-it's infectious! Take him if you get the opportunity!

Prof Scaglion is awesome. You learn all about a tribe who worships yams. Its surprisingly interesting. And this class fulfills 2 requirements. Definitely take it with Scaglion, he is great.

Gives great lectures- interesting stories, clearly defines what's important and what's not, and has the best laugh I've ever heard. The class is relatively easy, and he makes it a lot of fun. My only complaint is that the class is 350 people. I'm hoping to take a much smaller, more personal class with him down the road.

Scaglion presents the material in such a way that you don't really have to study to do well on tests because it sticks in your memory. Easy, easy class..and he's hilarious, too. Definitely worth taking. Yes, the laugh is delicious.

Defintely buy the text bound version of this txt, which comes in the binder, if at all- you dont really need the book theres a website that has all the vocab from the publisher, use that instead!! GET THE NOTES, dont have to go to class but it does make it easier to go

A little bit of work,plus a bit of reading for the class and a decent amount of studying and you'll be fine. He keeps lectuers lively and is very accomplished in his field, so it is interesting to hear his personal stories.

What a great class! A great professor too! Spent the rest of my undergrad trying to find away to take another one of his classes. A great lecturer, great anectdotes and a very good intro to anthropology. Really had fun in this class - probably why I majored in Anthro.

He's a funny guy. You'll find yourself kind of sad if you miss a lecture. He's really passionate (and credible) when it comes to the Abelam. Everything you need to learn is pretty straightforward and tests are easy if you put a little time into studying. Nothing overwheliming.

Totally interesting guy-- he could probably tell you a story from his life for 6 hours all at once and it'd still be worth listening. That's what more than half of each class is, and it's very easy to pay attention. Even if he does giggle too much. :)

I love this guy! Don't miss a class- not that you'd want to- because a lot of the exam questions come from straight from his stories. I had no interest in anthropology prior to this course but Dr. Scaglion is THE BEST lecturer I have had at Pitt. Class time is full of his stories about when he lived with tribes and they are hysterical. You watch alot of movies and it's a VERY easy class. You do have to write essays on the exams and recitations are boring, though.

He was awesome! I loved going to his class, and believe me you never want to miss one - it's far too entertaining. Between class and the textbook chapter reviews, an A is guaranteed.

Interesting guy. Always has a story to tell during lecture. Lectures are entertaining and informative. Skim the text and read the enthnographies. If you do that you're guaranteed an A in the class. Great guy, try to take some of his classes if you can.

Enjoyable class. Read books assigned and go to class to get lecture notes and watch movies. they will be on test. Go over terms from book for chapters assigned. test were fair and no challenging if you attempted to study and come to class. Recitation is a **** though...essays were on terrible topics and were gradeed to harsh for no reason.

Truly cares about the well-being of his students and their understanding of cultures over grades (resulting in very easy tests). He's a prof who's literally "been there" and worked as an anthropologist and teaches straight from his own hilarious experiences in Papua New Guinea!

This man is the BOMB! He never fails in making the class laugh. Lecture is beneficial although attendance is not mandatory. Cares about his students, uses great examples in class. No need to read the book, just copy down the terms and definitions. Two essays and 3 quizzes in recitation, very simple.Exams are half multiple choice with essay question
