Boring in lect.He loves to talk. If study notes-use tape recorder to tape lectures(very helpful)he tries to make you change to his view.Just have a strong foundation(what you believe)and study. It is a good class you will learn a lot.
This is a fun prof. to have. He keeps it alive. Make sure you study for the tests and don't miss class too often and you shoud be in for a good and fun experience, he teaches at least 2 other kinds of phil.
I absolutely loved this class from beginning to end. Mr. Schoenig was so smart and witty and all he wants is for his students to be openminded, and if you have and open mind, then you will surely gain a lot from him.
Class is pretty cool and makes you think about your personal views. The tests he gives are very nit picky so not too many do well, you can recoop your grade with the 3 written assignments that are pretty easy to do. He is lively and upbeat...good class.
very funny, cery clear and concise, makes the material interseting
I took his Logic class as an elective in 1979. This was one of the most fun courses I ever took. I loved going to his class. He would always kid me about my disco shirts.
good, easy, funny. He give his notes for class in the begining and all you have to do is sit and listen in class. Notes and study guides are given in begining of the semester
i took this class on the internet. insanely easy. a high school class would be more difficult. do not bother to buy book. waste of money. dr. schoenig is ok if but a little hippie like.
Very organized. Easy to understand. A little boring.
Interesting class and good professor. He explains everything in a clear and concise way. Very organized and notes are well prepared. Tests are somewhat easy, although he will ask some very specific questions at times. And DO NOT start getting ready to leave class until he dismisses you....
very clear and to the point
I would definitely recommend Dr.Schoenig for those taking Major World Religions or Business Ethics. I think he is as good as a good professor can be at the college.
don't be chronically late! interesting class, if you write the papers and study for the tests you will do fine. sometimes it is hard to write certain papers depending on your views so you have to learn to kind of leave your religion at the door.
There is nothing in this class that should be hard. Anyone should make and A but he seems to try to make that impossible. His tests are short and hard because you have to know exactly what he wants the answer to be. The questions are too open and it is very hard to get the right answer. Take another professor if you can!
Easy class, but he's pretty narrow minded believe it or not. He's VERY athiest and tends to argue against any opinion on God. He's sickly, frail, and Scrooge-looking.
I am enjoying this class- His notes are on a overhead projector. The tests are 25 multiple choice- VERY CLEAR and you will do well unless you aren't trying. He is an incredibly nice and intelligent person. I deffenitley recommend him for this class. He is a normal looking person, people that criticize are CHILDISH,- I think he is handsome.
pretty good teacher really easy if you try dont need book at all tests are short and you dont need to go to class because he gives all the class notes in the begining of the semester everyday in class he just goes over the notes which his lectures dont' really help anyway... study the notes and his class will be easy. pretty easy ... maybe
Didn't like him at all, but if you say what you think he wants to hear you can get an easy A. Though make sure you buy a stapler because he will yell at you if you don't.
If you believe in God or contradict any of his stupid ideas, he gives you a low grade
Note taking is simple bcuz he speaks nearly word4word out of the book he wrote & uses the overhead to guide u through. He's highly intelligent, but unfortunately 4him,he has a limited view of the world bcuz he ignores God's role in his life.He attempts to prove that God can't exsist. He is impressed w/bright students.Study hard4tests though!
I CANT STAND HIS STUPID CLASS. HE MAKES IT HARDER BY HIS STUPID COMMENTS AND JUST ANNOYING BY THE WAY HE TALKS. HIS TEST ARE DIFFICULT AND HE HAS HIS FAV. HIS LECTURES ARE BORING AND I WOULDNT RECOMMEND HIM AT ALL!
He is annoying and boring. He yelled at a student for coughing too loud. He wrote the book and thinks he is all knowing!! I am a 3.75GPA student and I had to drop this class due to the professor not being fair with grading. If he doesn't like you, it will show in your grade.
Great class, learned a lot, would definitely take this prof again. He gives you a copy of the notes, has one paper, tests are multiple choice. The final was all essay, but not very difficult.
Easy class. Emails notes to you. Book is not really required. Just answer questions on the study guide at the end of each chapter of notes and the test will be the easiest A you ever got. Would strongly recommend.
Loved this class. Emails the notes for the whole semester to u. Don't even have to buy the book. He's a great instructor. Very clear, concise, and tells u exactly what to study. I made an A. Definitely plan to take this guy over the lady that teaches the same course...I had a friend in her class and she was TOUGH!
he's a great prof. he practically spells out what he wants from you. he wrote the book, and it's a very easy read. just don't go in with a closed mind.
worst class ive ever had terrible extremly hard and very difficult to understand he is not accesible and will never give extra credit no matter what ......i do not recomend him at all
The best professor I've ever had!
This is the 2nd class I've taken with him and he's a wonderful professor. Everyone should take his classes.
I took Dr Schoenig for 2 classes. He is an excellent teacher & willing to meet with students. He discusses everything that will be on tests & quizzes, and sometimes has a trick question, but if listen to him, read what he tells you to read and listen to his lectures, you should get an A. He is funny, and concise. Leave closed minds at the door!
I read the + reviews--Who is that guy? I took the net course for fun and credits. I only called him 2X for clarification. He was condesending and rude-"Haven't you ever writen a paper before." When I asked clarification on the sylabus/final he wouldn't answer my question and told me to check the sylabus--I did!It wasn't there.Bad semester for him??
easy class, the teacher can be a little rude but u dont have to listen to him, just do the study guides at the end of the chapters for the test and for the written assignments write what mr schoenig wants to hear.. blah blah blah
very clear, gets to the point and he is funny!!! he does not expect a lot from the students just a little bit so you can get something out of the class other than a 3hr credit
he is a good professor.....but he has his favourites.....u need to read very attentively when preapring for his tests because his tests are really trickly.....u had to do the 2 case analysis in this class....and u have to follow his instructions otherwise he will cut your marks.....he just want u to think what he thinks not what u thinks....
This was a great class and certainly thought proking. Professor Schoenig's lectures are very clear, concise and easy to follow along. Take great notes and read the textbook and you should find that the tests are easy and not tricky. There are some writing assignements but very easy and Prof. is a fair grader, just keep an open mind regarding top
I took his intro to philosophy class, and made an A in the course. He's pretty straightforward about the tests and written assignments. Just make sure you pay close attention to his instructions. He doesn't ask a whole lot from the students, and explains things quite well, so overall it's a pretty easy course.
very hard, sarcastic, and not willing to give any extra credit what so ever. He seems to be very close-minded and only likes to hear what he believes is good. He has you use a lot of ink because of the Supplementary Notes in the first half of the semester; all print-outs. Not a good class to take.
This class (Maj.WorldReligions) was phenomenally boring. When you get into class he turns off the lights, puts an overhead up and lectures. He gives you a copy of the notes at the start of the semester, so taking notes isn't necessary. You are handed everything you need to pass; tests are outlined in the notes. Attendance is mandatory; have a nap.
I TOOK THIS CLASS ONLINE BUT I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TAKING THIS PROFESSOR ONLINE. HE IS THE AUTHOR OF THE TEXT SO YOU HAVE TO REALLY KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT WHEN DOING THE ASSIGNMENT.
Tests are tricky. I took the internet version of Ethics. Tests are 25 questions, 25 minutes. Questions are tricky and you don't have alot of time to re-read. Quizzes are 5 ?'s, 4 minutes over approx. 10 pages of material. You have no clue what he is going to ask and don't have time to re-read the ?'s. 4 Case Analyses - can't have own opinion.
Interesting course with a capable professor. Tends to be very thorough. If one's mind is inclined to take all possibilities into account, this class will be a breeze. Those who do poorly or rate the professor poorly tend to be those for whom philosophy is a reach. If one meets the criteria, the class is an easy sail.
I took Schoenig's Ethics internet 8 week summer course. It was quite a relaxed class for me. Just read the assigned chapters and know the end-of-chapter-questions and you'll get and A. If you ask me, do the internet course; it's a breeze.
Took Business Ethics online thinking it would be a piece of cake. He begins the class with 3 exams (25 quest 25 min) and are all based on his lectures and the questions are tricky. Case analysis are easy but beware that there is no extra credit! He is readily avalailble if you need him. Your efforts will reflect on your grade!
he's a funny one. sweet man! tests come STRAIT from the study guides, which all the answers are from the book & you dont have to take notes during lecture because its word for word from the book.. if you study the study guides YOU WILL BE FINE!!! nice man, enjoyed the class and would recommend him to anyone :)
He was an amazing professor! Absolutely brilliant and completely fascinating. No notetaking required, he gives them to you. He is very funny and keeps you interested.
Easy class if you don't mind swallowing your dignity. You basically have to agree with him to get an A, and he has some pretty wacky opinions. He wrote the book that he uses, so its a good idea to read it, and memorize definitions of the things he emphasizes in class lectures. Also, he adds points to your grade if you miss less than 3 classes.
Always willing to help. Answers email and questions really quick. You have to read all the chapters. Professor wrote the book, so he knows the material inside and out. It is not a difficult class as long as you do the work. I would take another class by the professor in a second!
Not a difficult class, do the reading, read his notes, and you will do fine.
Fairly easy class. I didnt buy the book because his notes are all you need to know and they are online. They match the lectures, too. Very interesting. Got an A.
Just completed the 8wk summer session online. Class was not to bad, interesting reading. He wrote the book so it's based on his views. We had 3 tests, 4 quizzes, 4 case analysis & 1 comprehensive final. He also offers a discussion session online 1 day a week to discuss questions, issues and etc. Class overall is not bad at all, easy to manage.
not an easy class his grading is very hard for both his tests and essays. He is not helpful if you have questions prior to the test. He gave 5 tests including final and 3 written assignments.
This is such a great class, I LOVE it!!!!! Its really really easy all you have to do is read and take the test, and the questions come straight from the book. There is an essay due towards the end which I have not had to turn in yet, but this is a wonderfully interesting class!!!
He's creepy and weird, but he's nice and the class is pretty easy. I missed 3 more days than allowed and skipped an assignment but still managed a B.
His assignments are organized and structured with a template provided. He always has extra credit available and he's easy to get a hold of. His exams are not very difficult but they're timed very tightly. He's respectful of other opinions but seriously wants you to explore multiple angles. True efforts are easily rewarded.
Gives a detailed outline of what HE wants to cover. Pretty biased and doesn't like when your opinions of the subject contradict his. Grading is a little unclear.
Took internet course, (3)25minute exams multiple choice and (1) written assignment, (4) case analysis (mini-papers) not difficult or lengthy but can get time consuming. Optional participation in online lecture, did not participate made a B, could have made an A but because had own opinion was penalized (in my opinion) but agree with his views.
Dr. S. is a great prof, gives lectures right from his online notes, straight from the book. Four section tests, multiple choice; a paper; final is essays on questions given in advance. Go to class, study the notes and you will ace this.
I would highly recommend this class. I took it bc it was required and I thought I would do just enough to pass but he structures it to where u have to do the reading and it miraculously gets interesting! He's very helpful, and is an easy class if you do some reading. All tests including the final are online,no going to SLAC for testing is awesome!
fairly easy class, but without him saying it, i know he is an athesist, democrat, pro-choice, pro- euthanasia, and he grades accordingly
Tests/quizzes right out of book, not hard grader on written assignments if you follow his format. Responsive to email, friendly in person. Made an A without a ton of hrs on hmwk - learned alot and was an interesting class.
If you go to class, and review the lecture notes you will be fine. I failed the first test and still got a B. The course is super interesting too!
I thought I would enjoy a college philosophy class - not after his class!! His intro to ethics class is pretty easy, it's just been hard for me to pass this stupid class even though I read and did the study guides. I'm taking it online, though, so maybe his class is better face to face. Quite biased. Don't recommend taking it online!
I took Business Ethics online. He is very helpful. Stay involved in the chat weekly chat sessions and be sure to communicate with him. Also, make sure you pick up your papers. It can help with your grade. :) very informative. Learned a lot
His class was boring and his assignments were horrible. His assignments were very long and he would grade upon his thoughts of Ethics. I would defenitely not recommend his class to anyone.
Easy A. Gives us all the notes, and tests from those notes, although he did sneak in a question from the book on one of the tests! Interesting. Very charismatic. Taking another of his classes next semester.
Schoenig is great!!! I took the online Ethics class & made a C on 1st test but still finished with an A. Cool class, he knows his stuff. Do the online chat, pick up your papers, and a high B will end up an A. Participation & communication are key, but it's an A that you'll be proud of. I highly recommend him.
Nice, pretty funny! I'm taking his world religions class and I feel he respects everyones opinion. You dont even have to buy the book or take notes because everything he lectures about is online. All you gotta do is study the notes that are online and you'll do fine on the tests. There is one paper that you have to write but its very open and easy!
Dr Schoenig is one heck of a showman; he puts 110% of himself into his teaching. He really cares, and though he won't coddle you, if you're willing to put forth the effort, he'll do whatever it takes to help you. I rate him a 10!
Really really funny! He makes the class come alive and really takes an interest in his students. I took his Ethics class and breezed through it! He wrote the book so everything he talks about is straight from it! Literally word for word sometimes.
The only thing off is his grading but overall a very respectable professor and to the opinions one has.
I took the online intro to ethics and it was a little hard for me. Know politics and religion(which I sure didn't) the tests are tricky because i studied the study guides and still struggled w them. Be detailed. He's a bit of a stickler.
Dr. Schoenig was the best professor I had in my 2 years at Sac. He is passionate and well educated on his subject. Makes class interesting and fun. Class lectures consisted of straight out of the book material. He provides study guides for each exam. Multiple choice with very clear questions. Final exam was given ahead of time to study for it.
The reading material is hard to understand. I was in what was suppost to be an Ethics class but the Philosophy portion is for the birds!
Pretty easy class an awesome professor! He even opened back up several quizzes for me after I missed the deadline.
One of the best professors at SAC. He is laid back but still leaves his students with a lot of information. Tests are straight from his notes and lectures. Easy A if you come in interested and pay attention.
I really enjoyed the class and the professor. He is available if you have questions, he clearly outlines the assignments, and he even provides you with (optional) modules to review for your exams. I highly recommend this professor and I highly recommend you train on the modules before taking the exam as you will most likely see them on the test.
Quizzes are very easy, and pretty much go by the word file he uses as a book. Requires 4 papers to be written throughout the semester, and grades arbitrarily based on whether or not you came up with the same questions he did. Very biased on the answers he wants from you. Overall, do not take this teacher online. Maybe he's different in person?
Took World Religions online & I would recommend to anyone. Syllabus & outlines very clear. Study the outlines and Intro & overview notes that he provides and you'll do great. He frequently emailed reminders thru canvas messages to let you know if an assignment was due. Quizzes are timed but easy if you study. Great online course.
He's an inspiration. He opened my mind when it comes to ethics and philosophy and I'll carry the knowledge I acquired this semester with me forever. Amazing teacher. Reading over the text as well as attending his lectures really helps. The case studies are simple if you use logical thinking. Easy A if you try and if you pay attention.
His case analysis assignments are pretty tough. He wants you to come up with the same exact questions as he did. He has group chats every week but I don't think it helps on future assignments since he only reviews things we already did. Not many assignments or extra credit so it's hard to improve your grades.
No extra credit case analysis are hard tough grader too.
hard class
I had it at 8 am in the morning, so let's put that into consideration. But lectures is just PowerPoint. Although no book needed . he makes cheesy jokes I guess to wake everyone up. I never understood his examples tho. On the case analysis he was a very tough grader. He's really nice tho and participation is encouraged
BEWARE when faking this teacher for Ethics! He is a tough grader on Case Analysis and grades based on HIS opinion and not the VALID argument presented. I would expect a more open minded professor when teaching such a subject. I am an overall A+ student and received a D. I will have to re take the class with a DIFFERENT professor.
I took Schoenig for an Intro to World Religions class. It was an interesting class and the discussions and content of the classes was interesting to learn. However, Schoenig isn't the liveliest speaker, and he often has the tendency to go off on tangents leaving you feeling like your question wasn't really clearly answered, and you can lose focus.
Mr. Schoenig is a tough grader. You have 5 tests(multiple-choice) 4- small quizzes, 4 case analysis . Do bad on the test your average drops, DOES NOT OFFER EXTRA CREDIT. If you have questions best way to get a better answer is over the phone or by stopping by his office, other than that he will just refer you to syllabus. Isn't a bad professor.
I learned a lot from this professor in his world religions course. I appreciate that he respected everyone's views. What I did not care for is how he calls people out in the middle of his lectures, asking irrelevant questions and expecting answers. It was his way of keeping people engaged I guess. Overall, it was a good class.
Amazing professor, very easy class. ALL notes are online from the first day of class. Take him!! Don't buy the book tho.
Very easy class if you just follow the course syllabus and turn everything in on time and according to the grading rubric. Class consists of several quizzes, exam, and papers. Just make sure you don't procrastinate and you will be fine.
This is not a good class for a visual learner or someone who has trouble staying focused. Everything comes from a word document "textbook" he created which is nice because it's free but it's extra boring. He's a bit awkward and monotoned too.
His tests and quizzes arent difficult to pass. As long as you pay attention you should be fine. However, the case analyses he assigns are a problem. He wants your answers to be the same as his instead of looking at it from your own personal view. For example, if the case discusses abortion, you have to say its fine, or he will give a lower grade
He Wrote his own text book and you will read it all if you want to pass, about 140 pages. He is proud and wants you to think like he does. looks for specific answers. his writing style is not clear and weird. 5 question test. and dont expect to be able to google any answers. Its like he intentionally makes sure that this is not just a GPA booster
I enjoyed his intro to ethics course. The subject was interesting and his case analysis really made you think. While some may say he is a tough grader, I disagree completely. All you have to do is follow the directions exactly and use his book for the analysis. I gave a decent effort and made sure I did not have grammatical errors. Got A+ on all 4.
Fairly easy. We have few assignments, so if you need to take Ethics in a relaxed course. Take him! One assignment due a week. Whether it's a 5 question quiz or 25 question test. There are a few case analysis at the end of his course. Just follow his example and you'll be just fine.
I hate this class to the core and its all because of this professor . All he does is talk all class period, attendance isnt a grade , there really is no other grades except the tests he gives you. By far the worst class, he isnt understanding , there is no extra credit , no exceptions , no corrections , its like he wants you to fail !
He has his own textbook so that makes it easy. Not a lot of material but you need to listen and read to understand it, especially if youve never taken a Philosophy course before. Great lecturer. Lotta respect for him. Loved discussing NYC.
