he is good. you have to read the book before every class to understand him. If you do it youll be ok.
I TOOK HIS ONLINE CLASS, HE DOESNT LIKE TO RESPOND TO E MAILS BUT HE IS A PRETTY FAIR GUY JUST READ THE BOOK(VERY HARD CLASS IF TAKEN ONLINE)
He is a very smart man! he is funny too but do not take his class unless you read the book. I got an A on the first test but dropped the class bc I could not stand taking him at night. he takes up the whole time and some! and always sit up front!
Not an easy class, but is very passable. You must read the book to stay on top. The on-line videos are VERY helpful. I ended up with an A, only because I studied alot!
He is the best professor you can ever find for organic chemistry. If you cannot pass his class with an C, then you will never pass any organic class from any other professor. His instructions are straight, and his tests are multiple choice. He gives bonus question, and if u r smart, you can end up with 10 right bonus que which are worth 10% of grad
a good professor helps student with homework assignments and problems. Yet, he tends to drag the class with stories.Tests are somewhat easy; study all work sheets given he even tells the class what material to study for test. Handouts study guides for test, which is cool.
1st 2 tests hard to wash out the bottom feeders. Last 2 r easy. I started out failing and ended the course with an A. You have to read the material because he does not teach in the order the chapter is laid out in. I thought I was completely lost, but I learned more about chemistry that will actually be useful in life than I ever thought possible.
He is very fair on his test with straight forward questions. If you study you should walk away with an A or B easily. He is also very nice.
He is very care about students.
Do not take this teacher e does not teach, he confuses the class, and give strict timed tests. If you can learn easily on your own then fine but if you need to be taught like me then find another chemistry teacher.
not a good teacher
Shreve does not beleive in teaching. He beleives a student should know everything before they come to class. He is roaring half the class. Wish they were better Chem teachers in Boca. Kasper was equally bad. Shreve is very good at making students feel stupid. He does not care about helping students at all. With his experiences wish he had a heart.
Throughout my 4 years of College, Dr Shreve has been by far my worst teacher. He thinks everyone should know what he knows and he belittles students whenever he gets a chance. Not too mention his RHHAARR roars that he constantly yells out. Does not care for individuals. NOT a good teacher
Outstanding Teacher, gives you every opportunity to succeed. Don't take chemistry if you don't want to work. Its not an easy subject ANYWHERE. He is the best it gets, trust me I've taken it before.
Worst Professor In The World. Will not help youat all. Take it at FAU instead.
Teacher from Hell. Save your money. Take the class somewhere else.
I loved this guy. He was so funny and extremely helpful, unlike Kreiger. He is very smart, and kept the class interesting. I recommend!
He's a nice person, thats all. He failed everyone I know. I have no idea what his problem is.
That class sucked. Failed almost evryone.rrraar. Tests are too hard even with notes. you could have the answers and fail!!
Has a very good heart but does not know how to teach. PBCC should do something about hiring good Chem teachers. I heard that Kreiger and Judd are worst.
Has a very good heart and is very nice unlike Judd and Kreiger but does not know how to teach at all. Is very hard to understand and constantly goes off the subject. Spends all the class time doing one problem.
This is one of the best teachers you will ever take... he is probably the most educated professor at this school... this is college, you have to study... if you don't want to work, don't take this class...I took him for chem 1 and organic 1 and 2... i thought i would fail, but i passed all three classes with an A...
great teacher. take notes of everything he teaches and bring them to the test. easy A. You can use notes on the test. attend every class and you will get an A. curves the test and gives extra point questions.
ok i dont know these other people are talking about. He did not FAIL anyone, he gave extra credit, and gave you a chance to use notes on the tests. Hes a VERY good teacher IF YOU DO YOUR WORK. He is ALWAYS willing to help and give extra time after class if you need help. He is not EASY, just not the **** class that most want. Just do your work.
Do your work and study...
Grrrreat Professor. Chemistry is not meant to be easy if you want to SLACK/ CHEAT, don't take this class. If you want to learn, then you will enjoy it.
He is a super nice guy, but a really bad teacher. He knows the material, but seems too smart to teach it. He does not give complete explinations for anything and you pretty much have to teach yourself. The classes are very frustrating because the lessons are always incomplete and very scattered. If you need to be taught I wouldnt take this teacher.
I dont know how to rate this guy! He is a really nice man. However, I did find myself teaching myself chemistry most of the time. Much of what he teaches in class isnt on the test. Other stuff that he did not cover is. He will try to help any way he can. I got A's but I learned very little from him. You can use notes on all tests and he curves!
the notes on the board help a little.. just make sure you go in there with a positive attitude and learn your stuff...chapter sums help out alot!! Class gets off track but then you have to put it back on. teacher very intelligent! teach yourself mostly!!!
If you dont study on your own you will fail. He gives alot of extra credit. He usually curves and lets you use notes on the tests
Dr Shreve is a very nice man. He honestly wants you to do well. Some of his teaching may be unclear though. He lets you use chapter summeries on the exams
Exams are very difficult. Don't waste you're time if you plan on flying through. Chapter sums. can be used but most questions will be unlike anything you had in class. Must understand concepts not memorize examples.
This professor is a really nice person, but cannot teach. The tests are very difficult and the questions have nothing to do with the lecture or book. I had a very hard time in his class, and I drop the course. Horrible professor!!!
The material is hard in general, but he is a very nice prof. and definitely knows his stuff. Make sure you are able to dedicate at LEAST 10-20 hours of studying a week outside of class to achieve an A.

I took him for Orgo 2 lecture and Lab. I ended up auditing the first time around but I took him again because I have heard horror stories about other Orgo teachers at PBCC. Dr. Shreve will do everything he can to help you understand and enjoy this subject. He truly enjoys teaching and wants to help students pass. Organic Chem SuckS!!
don't go into this class and expect toi pass easily. u need to work your butt of off and spend at lest 15 hours a weeks studying. memorizing wont do much you need to understand everything. very nice person but as a professor i feel he does a poor job
he is the best teacher in the whole world. this isnt a teacher who just shows up for work everyday, but someone who cares about each student uniquely. he will do anything for you as long as you work hard, it will pay off. he devotes his time to everyone, and is there to help you, not hurt you. i think he is fabulous.
i would'nt take him anymore
Not easy...but good guy...lots of extra credit and big curves
NOT A GOOD INSTRUCTOR. DOES NOT HELP OUT ALL THAT MUCH. SPENDS MORE TIME TALKING ABOUT HIS PERSONAL LIFE AND STORIES THAN CLASS. WHAT EVER HE TELLS YOU TO STUDY IT DOES NOT EVEN HELP. SO DONT WASE YOUR TIME. TESTS ARE SCANTRON ONLY SO NO PARTIAL CREDIT. VERY LAZY AND ENDS UP COSTING YOU A BUNCH OF POINTS.
Dr. Shreve is a great man, but not a good professor. He is extremely nice, but his lectures are not very helpful for exams. Few topics from lectures will be on exams. He gives a very vague outline for exams, which are not helpful.( He might as well not had wrote it at all). He is kind but If u really need to learn and pass I would take elsewhere.
Very Bad Professor. Do not take him unless you have a strong chemistry background and willing to put in 40 hours a week reading, reviewing, practicing, and getting extra help, or if you have a previous background in Organic Chem. I do not recommend him to anyone especially if your a science major. You will not learn anything from him at all !!!
Mr. Shreve is an expert. I think he is a genius in chemistry compared to the other teachers. But, his tests aren't really easy despite the big curves he gives away. it's not a class recommended to someone who didn't take chemistry before. However, one will learn better when they know that they will get snacks before or after class. GREAT TEACHER!!!
He is a bad teacher. Tha worst I have ever had for chemistry or any science lecture. He doesnt teach at all, at least he doesnt teach anything that will be on his exams. You never know what he will put on an exam. You have to know everything word for word and step by step to pass his class. NOT RECOMMENDED!!!
Dr. Shreve is probably one of the worst organic chemistry professors ever! He doesn't explain anything in the book but you'll be tested on them. So you basically have to teach yourself, which is not good for organic at all. He doesn't give ANY notes at all, he just makes you build models but then tests you on book material. In conclusion, he sucks
really hard and bad teacher
Awesome professor, but not the easiest. He outlines what is going ot be on your test. He tries to relate his experiences with the topics going on in class. He will ALWAYS help you, if you want the help. Take his class if you want a good chemistry background. Don't take his class if you plan on doing no work.
HE KNOWS A LOT, BUT HIS PROBLEM IS THAT HE DON'T KNOW HOW TO TEACH WHAT HE KNOWS. I STILL LOVE HIM!
Prof. Shreve, with due respect, is too smart to teach. I hope you guys know what I mean. However, if you have no other option for chemistry (if he's the only one offering that class on campus) just take him. Trust me, you might get an A. Don't ask me why. uhmm, make friends in class. That may be helpful.
Awesome guy, and very friendly, but really hard. Just study from the book, and go to the chem tutors at the learning center (BT 2nd floor). And do the review sheets (10% of your grade).
MY GOD!!! HE TALKS ABOUT EVERYTHING BUT THE SUBJECT !!! HE'LL COME TO CLASS AND START TALKIN ABOUT ANY ONE OF HIS EXPERIENCES , TRIES TO MAKE HIS TETST AS HARD AS POSSIBLE !!! BAD TEACHER ! DONT TAKE HIM !!!
Be advised, by the middle of the semester half the class droped out mainly because they were failing. Do not become part of that statistic, do ALL the homework, dedicate yourself and you will do fine. One of most challenging classes I have ever taken.
Mr.Shreve is a super nice professor and brilliant. Shreve is VERY entertaining but seems to be challenged with organization. I learned a ton from him but believe I passed only because of my many in class questions and lots of time with Rahool, the best chem tutor you will find. You can learn and do well with Shreve but plan on getting extra help.
Prof. Shreve is very...entertaining. He's nice and he's got tons of stories to tell. The only issue is he doesnt actually teach. He expects his students to be fully prepared. He has trouble staying focused and is rather unorganized. Just be prepared to teach yourself a lot and PAY ATTENTION to the little bits he does go over. It helps. 4hrs/week.
Professor Shreve is an interesting man but not the best teacher. He's scary smart but doesn't translate it well to his students. If you have a good SI then you should be alright. He makes funny noises and talks to himself sometimes which keeps class interesting.
Worth taking for lab if you don't wanna go to FAU and work your butt off. If you show up and do the labs you'll get an A. For the lecture if your motivated and can teach yourself, you can pass with lots of hard work. He doesn't teach, but can be somewhat helpful if you go to him during office hours. Open notes on the tests!
ORG II: Shreve is useless if u want to learn anything. he's unorganized n unprepared. extremely knowledgeable in his field, but can't teach. will have to learn completely on ur own. final is cumlative n worth 40%, 3 other exams worth 50%, and notes/participation 10%.
do not Take his classes !!!!!he's a great person but not a teacher....usless in class totaly unorganized....thank good i had Rahool(the best tutor in pbcc)or i could not pass his class...like i said before DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR CHM....
do not Take his classes !!!!!he's a great person but not a teacher....usless in class ....thank good i had Rahool(the best tutor in pbcc)...like i said before DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR CHM....
He is a great person, with a funny sense of humor. I only had him for Lab, but overall, was a pretty easy class. Don't expect much teaching, as all you are doing is experiments from the book. He will help if u have questions (but know that he expects u to solve them by yourself first). Make sure u sign in & turn in all labs, complete, and u'll b ok
I took Honors and received an A. Prof. Shreve is an amazing person and is entertaining, that said he is unorganized, unprepared, and I think just holds class for an audience, he doesn't teach. I learned through self study and SI's, and at the end walked away with very little confidence in my chem knowledge, and unprepared for Chm 2!! Disapointing!!
He is mean! Good luck teaching yourself chemistry. Because he understands it all, he thinks you should. I am bad at math and felt i was failing. I emailed bc i felt i needed to drop the class. Simple email to the point.Wrote back going off saying its illegal to email a grade and he didnt want to go to jail. Said i shouldn get so emotional about it.
Unorganized, talks about personal experiences; I'm sure a brilliant chemist but not a teacher. Says the textbook is wrong, doesn't keep with the schedule he hands you; creates hard tests some of which subject matter he doesn't realize he hasn't went over; impossible to pass unless you've already taken Chemistry.
This professor sucks. He is all over the place He tells us we have a test and that he's gonna e-mail us the review, its 2 days before the test and still no review have been e-mailed to us. Our last test he told us to focus on a subject, he even gave us a lengthy handout to work on regarding the subject. the test only had 2 questions on the subject.
He's a strange man. He likes to see his students struggle. His tests are not easy.
he sucks!!!! I had 2 retake chemistry over bc it was over 10 years old. I have a 3.8 science GPA, I studied straight out of the book countless hours, went 2 SI Rahool & havent even taken the final yet & have a D-. he doesnt teach, you have 3 mins ea. 2 answer test questions that take a very long time 2 calculate & he babbles in class, DONT TAKE!!!!
Very hard. I barely got a C after I spent countless hours learning from the book and going to supplemental instructions with the TA. His lectures are useless and the test are totally different from what is telling that is going to be on the test.More than 3/4 of the class FAILED. I was lucky to get a C.Do not take him. Find another Prof.
Dr. Shreve is a really interesting person and its easy to hate him because he is all over the place, but when studying for you MCAT, PCAT, and other tests what he teaches is really significant for these exams. Why? because he writes for these standardized test. I took him for 1045 & 1046 and go B's in both classes. He is a good professor!
CHM1045 LAB - professor is very different (but in a good way), I only took him for Lab, but BY FAR the easiest lab EVER! he doesnt grade anything really, as long as you turn in your labs complete and do all Pre Labs BEFORE class. Overall experiments were somewhat interesting, hes really not there for support, just observing.
Prof. Shreve is a good and very nice professor, his tests are easy, you can use notes!!!. I think he is a very interesting professor. Take him!!! I got an A in organic chemistry II and organic Chemistry Lab II.
Prof. Shreve is a very good and nice professor. The tests are a little hard, but you can use the chapters summaries and handouts. Take Him!!!! ;)
What a character. Super nice waky guy but doesn't give a damn that the test are too hard. Upside the lab rediculously easy.
Shreve is not for everyone. His lectures are often disorganized, so you need to do a lot of reading/studying on your own. SI sessions will help a lot! His tests are tough, but fair. You're allowed to use Chapter Summary sheets that you write yourself, as well as all handouts he gives you, on the test. He's a super nice guy, just absent-minded.
Lab: Easiest lab ever. Lecture: Tests are 10 % Lectures, 30% book, 60 % who knows... If you have an SI you will get an A. If you don't a C is pretty easy to do. B's are tougher. He is the nicest professor in the galaxy. If you don't put in at least 30 Hours / Week don't take him. You WILL fail.. unless there is an SI, then 2-10 is fine.
Learned a lot after not learning anything in 1045 with someone else. He is absent-minded, but super nice and tries to be helpful. Tests are tough, but fair, and you can use your own chapter summaries and handouts he gives. You definitely have to work on your own time, but it's worth it. He's full of information- sometimes it's hidden in his stories
People complain about his lectures being all over the place, and they often are, but if you read the material ahead of time, you can piece it all together into something that makes sense. Tests are not as bad as people say, because he curves to 70, which is a normal distribution. You can get a good grade, but you have to work for it.
Shreeve is the best professor ever! If you ever can take his class do it no matter what.. He is a little absent-minded but he is full of knowledge. You will walk out of his class and learn more then you ever will in another chemistry class. He strives to make sure every student in the class understands what is going on in the lecture.
He is kind of a space cadet and often goes off on random topics but his stories are always interesting. YOU HAVE TO READ THE BOOK ON YOUR OWN, the lectures are not that helpful but if you ask questions he will answer them. you should go to SI, especially before exams. exams are mltp chc and have ex cr and you can use your notes & hadn outs on exams
Orgo 2 is definately not fun but this guy is insane! He doesn't make ANY sense, however the SI is great! She gets all his tests ahead of time and makes her own almost identical to the actual test. Go to all the SI sessions... The only way you'll learn anything.
One thing particularly I didnt like was that he does not use the textbook. He is very knowledged person and has passion to teach, but it was a little bit hard to study for the exam. If you work out textbook problems, you will be fine.
The secret to passing his class is to USE the SI. Go to the SI sessions. Shreve's lectures are all over the place. He knows his stuff, but he does have a hard time getting it across. He does allow cheat sheets on his exams which was VERY helpful. All extra credit questions on exams go towards your overall grade. Nice guy, but very tough.
He cares more about the lecture than the lab,and he has said that. Therefore, the experiments DO NOT work. If you want an easy A/B take him for lab, if you care about the experiments DO NOT take him. Stay on top of him about grades because he is known to lose/not inform us of assignments that are due. He does allow you to come/leave early.
Shreve is not the professor you want to take organic chemistry with. His lectures have absolutely no structure, he pretty much wings it each class. He doesn't know how to relay organic chemistry in a way that makes sense to students. He does not teach any of the things that are on his exams, he expects you to know them already. SI leader isn't good
If u read ur syllabus, it will say test is not just from the txtbook & lecture.. anyway, he is not my favorite. He uses txtbook very rarely so students got lost. Lecture is pretty useless... Be sure to use SI. If ur SI is not good, use the tutors for ur life. Again, self teaching is really important here! Read text, youtube, and so on.
Nice guy and knows his stuff. Can use cheat sheets and handouts on all his tests. His lectures are not structured, and most of the time he gets off topic. He will have material on his tests that he did not teach. DEFINITELY use the SI and go to his sessions. He very rarely uses the textbook, however you will NEED it to study.
well take him for lab its just paperwork....Lecture is a roll of the dice like a guessing game. if you want to learn it DONT TAKE Him, however if you suck at chemistry i think you have a 50/50 shot at passing. he makes up 3 tests worth 20,30,40% of grade with 10 attendance grade.
I took him for orgo 2 over the summer and it was a Nightmare. you have to teach yourself basically the class is useless he does not teach anything, he forget a lot of things and cant keep track of the class. I just dont know how the school is still keeping him. students pay money to learn not to teach themselves...
This prof does not have structure. You never know which chapters he is on, he tells you to study chaps 1-3 and tests you on chap 1-8. You have to teach yourself because all he does is talk about his life stories. He doesn't even inform the SI of what chapters we must study. I am a good student and I feel ripped off!! We need new profs at PBSC
Very knowledgeable in the subject matter, but it's almost impossible for him to explain it clearly. The lectures are a joke. They usually just end up being him rambling for 40 minutes and then ends class early. The only real education comes from the SI, which begs the question.. why not just make the SI the professor? Would not recommend.
I am an "A" student but barely managed to get a C in his class. Lectures are all over the place, not helpful at all. You basically are left to teach yourself organic chemistry, and it is a guessing game as to what will be on the tests. I resorted to countless hours of online lectures and videos and still barely squeaked by with a C.
Avoid this professor for CHM1032. He is only for the very advanced student on a graduate or doctorate level. He is sweet, but hard of hearing so he does not answer the questions you ask. You have no idea what the lessons will be about each session. You can study one chapter and then he just does something completely different.
The WORST Chemistry Professor at PBSC!! He does not teach at all. He might be very knowledgeable on the subject but does not know how to convey it to students. He basically is a waste of time for students who want to learn. He lets you use notes on his exams basically to mitigate his horrible teaching skills. WHY is he still teaching!?!? AVOID HIM
Dr. Shreve is a great professor. He covers the important parts of each chapter and adds some real world application/personal experiences in his lectures. I'm sure if more of his students read the chapter ahead they would understand what he talks in class. Chemistry is hard, whether you like it or not. I got a B but it could have been an A.
He takes attendance then babbles on about his life. I did not learn a thing taking this class. I have to reteach myself this because i have to take the hesi. Do not take him unless you are really looking for an extra class. you will not learn anything for the major
You will not learn anything from his lectures, as they are mostly work stories and less learning material. In this class you must invest a large amount of time reading the textbook and attending SI sessions. Tests are open note, but he might accidentally put a chp that wasn't covered into the test. He is a nice person, but he shouldn't be teaching
Professor Shreve gets off topic from time to time. His tests are often not on the chapters that were stated on the syllabus. I believe he is aware of these downfalls because he not only has a very large curve on many of the tests, but he also has extra credit on every test. SI sessions are critical. Not a hard class if you study. Overall nice guy.
I like professor Shreve, but if you want to learn do not take his class. I only opened my book once and that was a waste. His tests are unclear because when he tries to give a lecture it becomes a story. He gives no hw or quizzes, so come test time youre lost, the handouts are pointless. They only way to pass is get a new professor or cheat.
So, if you want to learn don't take his class. If you want an easy A, take it, but go to Max his teacher aid before class. He will HELP A LOT and he actually teaches but only for what is going to be on the exams. Basically, its a freebie class. I didn't retain anything but got an A since Max basically gives you the answers.
