Great Professor! Lectures are interesting, exams are easy if you come to class!
Just come to class and pay attention. Tests not difficult
Easy class and good man
Great guy, great teacher. Anyone who has the opportunity to take a Sorrell/Francese tag team class should take it!! These guys are so funny together and they make the class fun. Tests are easy if you come to class regularly!
easy test because of the good class discussions and he is very thorough
Very Nice guy, was an easy class for me, but thats because I love history anyway.
Great teacher. Test reflects class.
Probably one of the best professors around. Great teacher and great guy. Take with Francese if possible because the two of them made class interesting, funny and easy. He goes over exactly what is on the tests. Definitely take...wish i could take it again
i took him for a winter class and it was awesome, 2 weeks and i got a B. he let us out an hour early and was a funny dude. take his history class
One of the best professors ever! So funny and class is not hard. I learned so much from his informative and interesting lectures, and he's a really nice man. Take him with Francese if you can!
Professor Sorrell is a fantastic teacher. He's interesting, funny and you can tell he really loves history. This is an easy class to pass since he is very clear about what he expects from his students.
Knows his stuff - class is fun tests come from what he says in class
His class was super and so is he. He wants you to succeed - but leaves it up to you. He is exactly what a college proffesor should be. He loves his job and it shows.
One of the greates teachers alive. Definitely worth taking. He's funny and very interesting and informative. He loves what he does and it shows. Also he lets you out mad early. HIGHLY recommended.
Loves Little Richard, but his dad sure doesn't! Likes to watch Christmas Vacation to the shagrin of his wife. Cancelled the last class because he had to "leave the country."
He might be a nice guy but it's so damn hard to stay awake during his class. His accent is annoying and his breaks are too short.
Terrible prof...he tested only on random facts he mentioned in class, reading book wasn't necessary..we didn't learn the broad scope of history..too lazy to teach more than 2.5 hours..a waste of money and time. Take a better professor.
First of all, Professor Sorrell does not have an accent, his breaks aren't short, and the tests are based on facts that he teaches in class.I highly advise him.(i also highly advise students to get THEIR own facts straight when they rate professors)
All i have to say is i hated history until i took it with sorrel. Very interesting and to the point. Take good notes and read the book and you will get a A.
"I like professor Sorrell because he only makes us memorize his facts for the exams. He always lets us leave early. He reads our 6 page papers in 2 minutes and even hands them back! Wow! What an easy A!" - dont waste your money on this guy. you don't learn a thing.
Dr. Sorrell is a fantastic teacher and his lectures are very interesting. He makes learning about history fun. He has a wonderful sense of humor, is understanding, and a fair grader. Consider yourself lucky to have him as a teacher.
Professor Sorrell is an awesome professor. He keeps you intrested by keeping you up on the little known yet intresting facts about history, instead of the same boring stuff we've been learning since grade school. He loves his job and it shows. HIGHLY recommended.
Prof. Sorrell is a great professor. He is a fair grader. I highly recommend taking his class!
the best History prof. I had so far. Everything he puts on the board is on the test, so don't ditch his classes. He has a great sense of humor. He makes history easy to remember- it's not all about the dates or dry facts- and he uses the class-time very well. (videos, maps, etc. as needed)
One of the best teachers at Brookdale. If he and Francese teaching together in your class, there is no reason for you not to be interested. Hilarious shenanigans will ensue.
I loved his class. His breaks aren't short, and he has no accent. Tells corny jokes and has lots of stories, knows everything about history. Very patient, answers all questions thoroughly, tests were very fair. Flexible grader, gives you every opportunity to do well. I would definitely take him again.
Best teacher, funny, will help you with anything, not strict
Very Helpfull, Kept me interested the whole time, learned alot
I love this class. He's an excellent teacher. He spits out so many facts, but he holds your attention. If you're taking American Civilization I or II, definatly try to grab his class.
took hist 135 w/another prof & dreaded taking hist 136 UNTIL PROF SORRELL!! he is awesome, has a lot of stories to tell, keeps u interested, test are pretty ez, you basically pick ur grade depending on the amount of work u want to do. i highly recommend him!! LOOOVED HIM!!
teacher was very good
HE IS THE BEST TEACHER! AWESOME PERSON, amazing professor.
absolutely awesome proffesor. I did not plan to take history 135 but it was a requirement with my major change, and after his class I ended up taking history 136 also.
awesome easy teacher
He is a great teacher. He's such a nice guy and he is a lot of fun to be in class with. Take a class with him and Dr. Francese. They're a great team.
Great teacher. Funny and nice.
Awesome class! Take it!
Sorrell is the man. Always lets you out nearly an hour early... shows films and tries to make this subject as fun as possible.
Sorrel was fun. Teaching style is great paired with Francese. Fun class, definitely interesting, and pretty easy.
Awesome teacher, funny, interesting easy A...first hist teacher at bcc was boring, switched out and took with sorrell, he is the man.
Great teacher, you wont be dissappointed. If you take good notes and pay attention your guarenteed an A.
Sorell is the man. do your work and you will get an A. He and Francese are possibly the best at Brookdale
Sorrell's class was fun and interesting. If you can, take his class when he is paired with Francese.. the two together make things more fun. They work better as a team then alone. Overall, good teacher but be prepared for notes!
This is an excellent teacher. He tells it like it is and is completely genuine. He is there to educate his students and does not use to easy route; do the job and get out. Definitely one of the best professors at Brookdale.
great guy, great teacher. very helpful, and understanding. keeps class interesting. i recommend taking any of his classes
Class with Dr. Richard Sorrell is refreshing. Incredibly nice guy and great lecturer. Always wants to help. Loves his subject. Take notes because he goes over almost every single question in class that is on the test, word for word. A+ for Dr. Sorrell
awesome and fun class. not a lot of work but if you want to do well you need to do all the work assigned (essay, project, 2 tests). i highly recommend.
Very good teacher. Funny. I took two of his classes.
Simply said-Sorrell is awesome..I've had him twice already and am quite upset I wont be able to take him again..
Great Professor! I hate hist, but he made it intresting by using stats relating to todays world. I've learned more in those 9 days than any other class at BCC, and on top of that, it was easy to do! Very fair man! And funny if your actually listening. You only need a 85% test avg for an A! And his accident isnt bad! Its north NY/Canadian! loved him
Awesome Guy! Fun class. Would take him again in a heartbeat.
I had 136 with him and Carl Francese in the big lecture hall in MAN and they are so funny together. Loved the class, extrememly easy if you study a little for tests and do the projects.
hes really nice, VERYYY BORING, but his 136 is really easy. 1 easy paper for a B, and you visit ellis island for an A. if u just need a C to pass, all u need to do is sit in class & take 3 tests. REALLY EASY. BORING. BUT EASY. hes a nice guy.
He is a very good teacher. He keeps everyone interested, very funny man
he was so nice! tests are very easy if you know the information, very straight foward and he does not make it tricky. hes not one of those boring history teachers. he actually knows what hes talking about and is willing to help you no matter what. aww hes so nice<33 one of my fave teachers at brookdale.
one of the best teaches i've had at brookdale. Prof. Sorrell makes history interesting and has short classes, has easy tests and overall a funny and nice guy
Thoroughly enjoyed this class. It was fun to go back to music of my generation. Great teacher.
Sorrel is the man. Interesting classes and he loves classic rock btw. If you can try to slide in some Springsteen or Lynard Skynard references into your papers.
This was the best history class. Prof. Sorrell, knows how to teach a history class. Easy A, if you attend class and pay attention.
Dr. Sorrell is very smart. I had him as a professor combined with Dr. Francese. They were both very funny, you need to take notes and go to class in order to do well! He's a good teacher
I had him over the summer during a class and he was extremely helpful. He knows his stuff and makes the class so fun and interesting. Hands down best professor I had
HE LETS YOUR GRADE BY HAVING DIFFERENT PROJECTS TO DO TO BUILD YOUR GRADE UP.
The man. Best professor I've had at BDale by far.
EASY EASY CLASS. I HAD HIM FOR MY HIST 136 CLASS AND GOT AN A WHEN IM HORRIBLE IN HISTORY. FOR 135 I HAD HIM AND FRANCESE, THEYRE HILARIOUS TOGETHER! LIKE BEST FRIENDS AND ALWAYS JOKING AROUND. JUST TAKE NOTES AND GO TO CLASS AND YOULL PASS. ONE PAPER FOR AN A. LOTS OF MOVIES TOO. U USUALY DONT NEED TO WATCH UNLESS THEY SAY ITS ON THE TEST. EASY!
If you have to take a History and don't really want to, Prof Sorrell is the best choice. He is clear, entertaining and let's you know in advance what you will need to know for his tests.
what a nice man! hes so nice and gives you chances to do well in his class. take this class with this teacher only. hes one of the nicest teachers brookdale has!
I had Mr. Sorrell for HIST 136 Winterim class, and he was one of the best professors I've ever had. He explains the material clearly, pointing out most of what is in the test ahead of time. Tests were mult. choice and easy, provided you read the material. Inserts personal politics every so often, but not excessively. He wears sweet ties, too.
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fantastic professor, the best I've had.
One of the nicest teachers ever. Very understanding and acually wants to help you pass this class.I took him in the summer and loved it.Take him!!
come to class, take whatever notes he goes over- HE TELLS YOU WHAT WILL BE ON THE TEST WHEN HE WRITES IT ON THE BOARD. No homework, only two papers (only if you want an A). sweet, funny guy. take him for an A. but you will need to put in some effort. I didn't go to all the classes, but i still handed in everything, got good test grades and got an A
best history teacher ever! i didnt want to fall asleep :) Very fair grading and very helpful! tkae all his classes!
Take this teacher..I took him this summer for 136 and i loved every minute of it..I went to every class and didnt have a problem stayin awake.I nvr liked hist but he makes it fun. NO NEED TO BUY A BOOK(only need it for "B" grade)..he tells u whts on the test..jus write down all his notes..Small little project(only for an "A" grade)..will help u...I
I hate history, but this class wasn't too bad. He clearly explains what work you need to do in order to get a certain grade. Make sure you take notes in class, because sometimes he tells you specifically what is going to be on the test. But also read the textbook for the first two tests - it'll help you understand the material.
awesome teacher. easy A if you do the work and take notes.
EASY A. (3 one page essays, 1 paper/project, and tests are multiple choice) The class was easy so if you are looking for a good grade take him but as a person this guy really really really annoyed me!!
Awesome. Tests are easy. multiple choice. a couple small projects. One is a few short essays in order to get a B. To get an A, I had to read a book(which was a really good book and i hate reading) i just didnt finish it. The B is really easy. Not too bad to get an A. I strongly reccommend him and Carl Francese. Never need the book if you take notes
Great guy. Class very easy. I personally didnt use the book once, if your as arrogant as me then the book is optional.
good guy funny , gets the point across , tells you exactly what to do to get every grade letter
he was the bomb!
Sorrell is a great professor! I highly recommend him! If you have the option to take the class with Sorrell and Francese, DO IT!!! Both really great guys and very smart. Easy class, show up, take notes, do the assigned paper or project and you'll get an A.
I would highly recommend Dr. Sorrell. He makes history sound more like an interesting story rather than a boring event that happened a hundred years ago. He does a really good job prepping you for his exams. The questions are right from the lecture he gives in class and are based on the chronology of events, not specific dates.
AWESOME! easy class , sometimes teaches with Francese , and you will be lucky if they do . they are an awesome team, funny but a bit corney. not alot of work at all and tests arent to hard either.
Very cool dude. I'm a history type person, but you definitely don't have to be to enjoy and learn in his class. He's very straight forward with what he's looking for to earn each grade. He's flexible and reasonable with grading as well. He's funny (a little corny but in a good way) and he makes everything interesting and totally easy to understand.
Highly recommend Prof Sorrell. He clearly outlines what is expected and how you earn a specific grade. He is a great storyteller bringing history to life. His class is easy when you complete all the work and attend all the class sessions.
He is amazing if you like history. Gives excellent lectures, be sure to take notes. Not a stinker on deadlines, easy tests, easy A
Mr. Sorell is a G! This professor knows his stuff and if you do everything he says u will be perfect!
He is an amazing professor. I'm not interested in history but he focused on details that I actually could pay attention to. He tells you EXACTLY what you need to do to get each specific grade, and none of the work is hard. Tests are word-for-word from notes. Also he's not a tough grader and deadlines aren't concrete. Take his class with Francese!
Mr. Sorrell is an awesome professor. He is easy, gives you the exact notes to pass your tests. Also, very easy when it comes to grading writing assignments.
Great guy, great professor. Showed videos & easy notes every lecture. All test questions came straight from class notes.
By far one of the best Professors I've had the opportunity to take a class with. Keeps the class very engaged, has a sense of humor, and provides the information straight and to the point.
Awesome professor! Really keeps you interested in History and you will learn a lot from his class. Tests are straight from the study guides and most of the time he will let you out early. Funny guy too. Overall one of the better professors at the dale. Highly suggest taking him for a 136 class you wont regret it
Professor Sorrell is a great teacher...he does not use canvas or register the online aids that go with the text. He was crystal clear with the notes, papers and extra assignments for YOU to determine what grade YOU want. I appreciated different means of media, videos and such...interesting time period of history..easy A Thanks you Professor!
Best history professor at Brookdale! Show up to his lectures and you'll pass. Tests are identical to his notes. You have to do 1 (3-4) page paper and another easy easy project for an A, (usually a trip somewhere). Really no need for the textbook just borrow one when it comes time to write the paper
He was one of the best teachers i have had. He is such a nice guy and is totally willing to work with you. You get to choose your grade. It's based on how much work you want to do. If you want an A you have to get an average of 85 on 3 tests, write an opinion essay, and take a trip to Ellis Island or write a paper on a book. I would take again!
He is a great teacher. All his test are based on his class notes. In the beginning of the course he breaks down what you need to do to get each letter grade. Crystal clear lecture. Obviously can tell he loves history. Didn't really use the book. But you will need it to write your essays. Even then the essays are short.
He is a really good professor. He makes the class interesting. He doesn't use canvas or powerpoints. The only thing I did not like in the class was that he wrote his notes on paper, and then projected them. His handwriting is really difficult to read.
Don't really like history, but he made it very enjoyable. On the first day of class, he made it very clear about what work to do in order to get a certain grade. There are 3 tests, and then an opinion paper and a paper about a trip that are optional. His tests are pretty much just like his notes, so the class is very easy.
Easy class. How tells you actually what to do to get the grades you want. He is a nice guy and always lets you out early. Tests are not that hard and he gives out study guides.
Great professor, really not many other ways to say it. History is my favorite subject so having a teacher who is passionate about the subject and makes it enjoyable is something special. Outlines what you have to do to get the grade you want in his class on the first day. I wish more professors were as straightforward as Sorrell.
FANTASIC. AMAZING. GREAT. BEST PROFESSOR. I don't know what else to say. I hate history, but professor Sorrell made it SO interesting. The first day he makes it extremely clear what you need to get the grade you want. Tests are RIGHT FROM the notes he writes on the board. Take him. I recommend 100%. 2 papers, not long. 3 tests. Amazing class.
I would take him for every history class offered if I could. He is an amazing guy and super nice. He makes history easy to understand and the class is an easy A. Three tests, one paper and one project. He is an awesome man, pretty funny too!
I wish he taught more classes!. 3 MC Tests based directly off his notes. A small optional paper for a grade of B, and another project paper for a grade of A. Doesn't actually "grade" papers; it's a pass or let's you correct it. Also, lets you retest at the end or hand in missed worked. Super nice guy.
Dr. Sorrell was the first professor to actually make history interesting for me. Super nice guy, very intelligent. You get to pick the grade you want. For a C, just take the 3 tests. For a B, take the tests and write a short opinion essay. For an A, do the previous tasks plus an "A" project -either go to Ellis Island or write a book report.
Professor Sorrell is a nice guy and lovely Professor. History is not my best subject and I made sure to do my very bests on tests and handed in both projects to try to receive a good grade. I'm not a good test taker but he told me you can retake them so I did and ended up doing a lot better the second time. Not all profs. let you retake tests
We always get out early, no need to read book for tests; all MC based of his notes. If you write a short paper, you get a B; and another project you get an A. Tests (which you can retake) are graded on generous curve and papers are not graded. If you don't do extra project, it is still impossible to get less than B+. Take him.
Great teacher and easy class. There were 3 tests, 2 optional papers and 1 optional trip to Thomas Edison National Historical Park. Knowledgeable about subject. Gave great hints. Class was blend of lecture and short movie clips. Truly wanted to see everyone succeed. Allowed test retakes. Great narrator. Tests based off lecture notes. No surprises.
Had him for one semester and honestly he is one of my favorite professors. He loves what he teaches and gets the class involved. Gives breaks in every class. Gives very clear notes that he projects on the over head. As long as you pay attention and write down what he writes down you should have no problem passing the class.
Such a nice guy. 3 multiple choice tests. 1 paper and 1 project , which are both optional. And he lets out early every class.
As a history major, I loved taking his class. He has such a great personality and he's very funny too! He makes the class very interesting and easy. Would definitely take him again!
One of my best classes. He seems tough at first but is clear in his requirements and made the lectures interesting and informative. Used the book as reference material, but if you came to class and listened he told you what would be on the tests. Loved having him and would definitely take any class he taught
He's a really nice teacher and enjoys what he teaches but he doesn't use canvas and his lectures are really boring. It makes you not want to come to class. If you're more interested in having a lively teacher and not boring lectures find someone else. He still uses a projector from like the 90's to view maps. Very nice man but very old school.
great guy fun to talk to his lectures are interesting he loves US history he's like a fanboy of all the presidents and Elvis
Prof Sorrell is amazing!!! His lectures are a little boring, but he always lets you out early every single class. Doesn't use canvas, but he tells you exactly everything you need to do in order to get an A grade, B grade or C grade. Really recommend, would 100% take a class of his again if I had to. Amazing :)
Professor Sorrell was a truly passionate educator. I was privileged to be his student after pushing the waitlist system to get a seat in his class. He suddenly passed 3 weeks before the semester ended. He taught on the construction of the Panama Canal for his last lecture. He wanted you to learn at Brookdale. He started in 1971 and finished 1018.
Great Professor! Took him twice! Makes class very interesting! Very fair grader!
