Dr. Tillman is a jokester, he talks in class and jokes a lot, so if you are serious about the course then do not take his class. He does teach, but it's not a tough class. I went to about 4 classes and received and A. He does not take attendance because most of the coursework is online, including tests and homework. He offers a lot of extra credit.
He's a funny guy and gives good lectures. Sadly, lectures don't cover enough to help you do well on exams. We had exams every single chapter we covered so we didn't have to take a final. The problem is that the tests went off not just new material but also previous material so if you didn't do hot on the last exam, it'll hurt your grade on the next
Gives good advice. Really nice. Helpful slides. A very easy class. Wouldn't mind having him again.
Seems like a lot at first but its such an easy routine. Took this for Psychobiology online and its cake. Study these vocabulary terms and took test once every 1-2 weeks. (Answers are on quizlet and you get 2 chances on test. 2 papers the whole year both 3 pages. Super easy prompt. Nice guy gives great feedback, cares about students
He is probably the most caring professor I've ever had. He has such a big heart and cares about his students, which makes the course even better. Weekly quizzes, so you don't have a midterm or final in his class which saved my butt the last couple weeks. All the homework is online. Keeps the class engaged. He's a great person! I'd take him again.
He has the best personality and actually cares if you learn the material. He asks that you email the TA you're assigned first instead of him which makes sense considering he teachers lectures and the TA I had always responded within a few hours. There are only two assignments per week. Would highly recommend taking his class.
Professor Tillman is a great guy. I am not a big fan of psychology but he does a great job of teaching in class and keeping the class entertaining. He is a pretty punny guy so that always makes class enjoyable. He is a very caring person, cares a lot about his students, and does whatever he can to teach them and help them with anything they need.
Dr. Tillman is an amazing professor. Lectures are engaging. The book isn't necessarily required for the class if you go to every lecture and ask for help when needed. There wasn't any busy work. The grades came from three exams (65%), two papers (13%), eight quizzes (17%), and attendance (4%). It's a great class, and it's easy as long as you try.
Professor Tillman is my favorite professor I've had at UC. He loves to make class enjoyable. His witty yet sometimes corny jokes are something I look forward to every week (who doesn't love a good dad joke)! Exams aren't bad as long as you give effort. Optional final! Quizzes are randomly given, but you can usually predict when they'll happen.
Super nice, really cares about his students. Very laid back, only one online quiz per week. Make sure you do your mindtap homework!
I'm so glad I had Dr Tillman this semester! His class is extremely fair and easy to keep up with the work. The lectures are always interesting and he keeps us on our toes with his many tangents. He shows genuine interest in all of his students and is very approachable.
Very funny, caring teacher.
Dr. Tillman is a good professor. He tries to make jokes during class to make the content for "fun". Just do your work and you'll do fine in this class.
Dr. Tillman is WONDERFUL! He will seriously make your life better. Taking him for this Intro class was the best decision I could have ever made. You do online assignments and tests and the in person class portion is just an easy lecture. Dr. Tillman makes you happy and if you want to be happy just take his class.
It took awhile for him to grow on me, but I ended up adoring him. He is super caring and kind, and definitely doesn't make the class harder than it needs to be. There were weekly online quizzes instead of exams which I personally loved and a few pop quizzes, so you need to go to class for the most part, but they're easy and he only takes the best 5
Professor Tillman is the best professor I've ever had. He really loves what he does so every class is great and positive. Homework is super easy vocabulary type stuff and there are (easy) weekly quizzes online each week. No final exam either. He does random pop quizzes for participation. Definitely take him if you can!! I loved going to class
He has pop quizzes but I showed up to 4 out of 8 and I still ended up with an A. He really cares for his students and is very helpful!
Dr. Tillman is an awesome man who is passionate about what he teaches. He is however Extremely hyper sometimes and it makes lectures kind of hard to follow. He loves trying to make everyone laugh, is usually in a good mood, loves when people participate and engage but has a short temper with wasting class time. This class was VERY easy to pass
I had Dr. Tillman for a summer online version of Psychobiology. His class was structured, with set due dates and a pattern of assignments. Each week we had to complete vocabulary exercises over the course of a few sessions, read/download his pwpt, followed by a test for each unit. Two papers assigned with little instruction, lenient on grading.
I thoroughly enjoyed his class-- CogLabs are helpful to understanding the material, tests reflect what was learned, and DB posts were great. He posts a video at the beginning of the semester entitled 'Proud', in which he states how proud he is of you for showing up and overcoming. This was huge for me and made a big difference in my experience.
Dr. Tillman has been one of the BEST professors I've had in college. He's caring and always wants the students to do their very best, gives great feedback on assignements and sends out weekly emails. I took this class online and all the guidelines were laid out and easy to follow. As long as you read the book, tests were easy. I'd take him again :)
Professor Tillman is one of my favorite professors. He truly cares about each and every one of his students. I have always struggled with Stats, but he was always there to help and paid attention to notice how students were doing with the material. I definitely recommend taking Professor Tillman for any course!
I loved professor Tillman. Very smart guy and he really wants his students to succeed. He has weekly assignments that you have to do and 2 papers for the semester. The final was optional (can boost your grade but can't hurt you) I'll be taking him again.
Dr. Tillman is awesome. I took psychobiology online with him and did very well. We had weekly homework assignments and quizzes on MindTap and two papers throughout the semester. He really cares about your success in this class and is passionate about psychology. Definitely recommend.
I have taken 4 of Dr. Tillman's courses! I would take him for every class if I could. He truly cares for his students and want them all to succeed ! He is the best teacher I have ever had! If I have questions or concerns he is prompt to respond, and is so helpful. Complete the assignments and read materials, and you will succeed.
I felt the professor was outstanding. He is incredibly supportive, understanding, knowledgeable, helpful, motivating, and considerate of us as students and all that we do. He would always mention how he believes in us, coach us on how working hard is for our future and that we have it in us to succeed. He's great! Not too difficult of a course too.
This was my 1st class after being away from college for a while, so I had to get accustom to the amount of reading required to prepare for the weekly tests. The material was interesting & I enjoyed the class. Prof. Tillman structured Cengage Mindtap study materials in such a way that made learning easier than reading the textbook or slides only.
The class is guided by mindtap which made homework easily accessible. Grades are based on vocab, weekly chapter tests, and a few writing assignments. . During my course the COVID-19 pandemic was going on and although the class was online he reached out via videos and brought the class together. Very caring and passionate about the course.
Tillman is amazing!! I have taken two of his psychology classes already and you can tell he genuinely cares about us as people and cares about our learning experience. He makes class fun and creates real world learning scenarios, which I find very helpful. Take his classes!!!!
Dr. Tilman was such a great professor! He clearly enjoys teaching and the field of psychology and it was apparent in the way he interacted with students. He's easily accessible and approachable, and was very kind and helpful if I ever needed help.
Dr. Tillman is one of my favorites. I learned a lot from the class. Only complaints I had was the lack of interaction with Dr. Tillman and how the tests tested over concepts rather than computational skills, but I didn't think it was that big of a deal. Take notes while you read, and put effort in the HW, and this class will be a breeze.
This was an online class for me, but the professor was always there to guide us with videos, emails, and canvas updates. It was clear what was expected. You must try in the class and give genuine responses and feedback. Discussion boards and papers are most of your assignments.
Online course materials like lectures are few and far between. Reading the textbook is the absolute key to passing Dr. Tillman's weekly exams. Course work is consistent each week with a test and homework assignment. Discussion posts and a writing assignment are also found in the syllabus. Dr. Tillman's Canvas is very organized.
Dr. Tillman is a great professor. His online class was very clear cut and he provided additional study resources like power points and youtube videos to help better understand the material. Weekly online tests and homework with questions sourced directly from the online textbook, so no surprises there.
Loved Dr. Tillman's intro psych class. He has very engaging lectures, and he will tell you over and over again how much he cares about students and how important their success is to him. He has very clear grading criteria, and this class has weekly homework assignments worth 20 points and weekly quizzes worth 30 points (with no final exam!)
He is annoying and strict about the most irrelevant things. I mean it's stats but he makes it unnecessarily hard. He says he cares about us but it does not seem like it. Would not recommend.
I just want to let everyone know that if you take Professor Tillman's class, and attentively attend, you will get an A. I am by no means calling this an easy class, but I am calling Richard Tillman a great Professor. I have had very few professors care as much about students and how they do in the class as Professor Tillman.
Dr. Tillman is strict on deadlines and if you do not like reading then you might be in pain, but he makes lectures very engaging and interesting. Be prepared for bad puns but they are definitely better than trying not to fall asleep in class!
He is awesome !! He truly cares about his students. I have emailed him a couple times about some questions and he has always been so supportive and kind. loves what he’s teaching. very informative!!
Dr. Tillman is a very well-rounded professor. His emphasis on caring about his students and his clear love for the stuff he talks about makes his lectures very interesting. His ''dad jokes'' make the classroom environment a little lighter since in psychology some pretty heavy topics are covered.
Professor Tillman is one of the best professors I've had at UC. You can tell that he really cares about his students and wants everyone to succeed in the class. He teaches his lectures in a fun way (he is also hilarious) and tries to incorporate various engaging videos along with the material. Overall great teacher and a great class!
He lectures 1 way, we do HW another, & tests another. Exams have no math even tho its stats. In my opinion, he wants us to feel stupid, & the way that he reacts when we answer ?'s is in a shaming matter & says "you all prob wont understand" while he makes it more confusing. He preaches that he cares but all he does is complain about us every class.
He cares about his students deeply. The class is extremely interesting and he is very knowledgable and has plenty to say. It is very fun and you learn a lot.
Not a fan of his lecture style. Goes on a lot of tangents and is very hard to follow. Complains about attendance a lot but I never went after the first lecture. For an intro to psych, just read the book and take notes and you will do fine on the weekly exams. No final so that is nice of course.
He is an incredible professor who really knows how to help students who are struggling to understand the material. I had him for stats and I was nervous going into the class but coming out of it, I have a good understanding of the material and I think it's pretty interesting!
Take this class online if possible!! I found his lectures to be kinda boring and unhelpful. Stopped going to them and still did well in class. Wish I just took it online it would have saved me so much time. He is a good guy though very strict on due dates and assignments but I was just bored with his lectures.
He just read off slides for the whole class and got really boring. He tried to be funny which most times he missed the mark completely.
This professor was very nice and kind. I can tell that he cares for his students and their success, but he did not teach thoroughly. I would leave the lectures feeling more confused than when I went in. He would contradict himself constantly and use so many words that it was easy to get lost. I love him as a person.
Psychobiology was the second course I've taken with Dr. Tillman, and I would highly recommend any of his online classes, as they are all similarly structured and have consistently doable workloads. He truly provides materials for any student to succeed. In my opinion, this class is an easy A.
Doctor Tillman is not a terrible professor, just not my cup of tea. Acted wayyy too excited about statistics and is very over-the-top with energy. Often tries to crack jokes, but 20% land. He would drone on and on and used a lot of words to describe seemingly simple things. I would sometimes be more confused leaving lecture than going into lecture.
Not a fan. Answers questions with confusing 20 minute lectures in themselves. Talks a lot but seems to say nothing, goes on tangents and lectures are very boring. The tests are structured weird and I overall just feel confused when in class.
Best math teacher I've ever had. Truly cares about students and offers lots of resources to learn the material and get extra help if needed. If you put effort into the course and keep up with the weekly assignments, you'll do fine. He does go on long tangents, but he really wants us to understand everything.
Dr. Tillman was by far my favorite professor at UC and actually made statistics fun! If you are coming into this class worried I promise you will be fine as long as you do all the assignments for the lab and lecture. I would recommend Dr. Tillman for anyone and he always brought so much energy to the class!
The best part of the class is the homework. The homework is in the same form very week. There is always Cengage homework and chapter homework. On exam weeks there is nothing, which allows for lots of time to study. Very lecture heavy with PowerPoints and screenshots from the textbook.
Dr. Tillman is a professor that really cares about his students and their education. He always wants to make sure that everybody is understanding the course material. He uses class time to go back over things he sees students struggling with, is very informative during lectures, and provides study sessions and extra credit.
Very knowledgeable and willing to help with ANYTHING, even issues outside of the course. Always ready to help and give advice, accommodating to students. Attendance is mandatory but class flies by pretty quick.
This professor has been super beneficial in my knowledge of psychology over the course of my first semester. Dr. Tillman also has a great sense of humor and an understanding over his stuents.
Takes attendance randomly. Talks a lot and sometimes gets off task but is a great professor overall.
Love the way he does weekly chapter tests instead of midterms and finals, and they're online so you can use your notes and textbook.
Dr Tillman provided a great online course especially if you're doing dual enrollment. The class has a very manageable workload and was quite interesting.
Dr. Tillman is by far the best professor I've ever had. You can tell he cares about his students and wants each one to succeed. He makes his lectures interesting and very engaging. This class is very discussion based but it provides the opportunity to speak on difficult topics and to look at those topics from a different lens. Take it if you can!
A couple notes, he encourages attendance by taking it randomly. No late work accepted, so be aware of deadlines. Make sure to read the textbook thoroughly. Weekly exams instead of a final. Overall, he is a wonderful professor, probably one of the best at UC, with a great sense of humor who truly cares about his students success. Laugh at his jokes!
Great professor. Class was very easy so lectures were fun to attend. Very lenient on attendance and there's no final due to there being a weekly quiz on the chapter. I enjoyed this method and it made my semester that much easier without the stress of finals.
Cares a lot about his students and is just a great professor.
Dr. Tillman is so great; he gives really engaging lectures and always makes sure that everyone in class understands the material. Assignments aren't that hard or just busywork either, discussion boards and CogLabs are set to help you learn and get an A while you're at it. Exams are open book/note, so as long as you keep up in class, you'll do fine.
The class is mainly lectures with there being a chapter exam and homework assignment each week. There is no midterm or final because of the chapter exams, but there are SONA research participation points that are important to complete before the end of the semester. Overall, genuinely enjoyed Dr. Tillman.
Dr. Tillman is a great professor to have as a first year student. His classroom environment is comfortable, with strictness on class conduct, but he is entertaining and compassionate. Weekly exams so no midterm or final, can be somewhat disorganized but still effective in lecture, attendance is randomly taken. I would gladly take another class!
he is literally addicted to slaying
This was a very informative and fun class. Everything was online and was to be done on your own time (homework and tests). Dr. Tillman is a great professor and has very entertaining lectures. Attendance was taken randomly, so is important to show up to class, even though he just reads from slides. Overall I would recommend this class to others.
He is extremely strict about phone usage and paying attention. However, he is very knowledgeable about the topic he is teaching. You can either write two short papers or participate in at least 12-18 hours of psychological studies. He talks very fast so be ready to keep up.
Dr. Tillman's class was very easy to keep up with. We took notes each week and had a homework assignment and a test. He gives weekly exams so there is not a final at the end of the course. He gives you two attempts for every test and he drops the lowest two scores at the end. The content was not very difficult. He was a great professor.
He was super funny and engaging. It was my first ever college class as a freshman in high school and I enjoyed it. We did have pretty long DBs so beware of that, however, they were usually pretty easy and we only had about 4. Weekly exams and homework but they were pretty easy.
Great guy, can't really stay on task, but it was okay because the class is discussion based. Has a lot of passion and personal experience. Grades were fine as long as effort was demonstrated. Make sure you show up. Final paper was kind of hard but he gave a lot of time for it and good feedback for drafts. Don't take if you don't like rambling.
Dr. Tillman is very funny but goes off on tangents that sometimes take away from covering actual content from the chapters.
He loves the course he teaches and will make sure you succeed and actually reads your homework and paper and gives feedback that I will use for my coming years. Be ready to buy the book but the homework is easy to get thru. If you like a fun teaching, discussion based class, take it.
He is very clear about instructions and expectations. His class was highly organized and it was easy to succeed as long as you're willing to participate and complete assignments on time. He does not accept late work, but is generous with giving enough time to complete homework and papers.
This professor is super knowledgeable and has lots of fun teaching this topic. This class is very discussion-based, but it's the only discussion-based class I've enjoyed. I've learned a lot from Dr. Tillman and my classmates as well. Dr.Tillman is also very goofy which makes the class a lot more fun. Such good topics to learn about! 10/10 course.
My favorite professor I have ever had. Such an amazing person all around and I would love taking one if his classes again!
Dr. Tillman is a great guy and teacher. Took his research class, TA'd for him for two semesters, and he even wrote a letter of recommendation for me when I applied to grad school. He truly cares about his students and wants to see them succeed. You won't see this kind of passion and care often, so if you have his class, don't take it for granted!
Let me preface- I wish I could write more. I do not think I have learned one thing in class this semester due to the fact he cannot explain things well, goes on random tangents that have nothing to do with statistics, and even confuses himself with his own presentations. He tends to focus more on getting kids in trouble than teaching.
The class work is fine, but you won't actually learn anything from the professor. He just talks about himself half the time and tries to make jokes to make the class less boring, but you're still sitting in a giant lecture room, learning nothing for an hour and 20 minutes.
This professor made me want to change my minor, and almost made me hate psychology. He makes unfunny jokes, and gets angry if students don't laugh at them. I have yet to learn a single thing in that class. Save yourself.
The work is simple. Each week you have a weekly quiz and weekly homework, both online and can be taken 2 times for the best grade. We have discussion boards throughout the semester, but they are simple. Professor Tillman is a funny professor who genuinely cares about his students. Definitely recommend this class.
Super nice, funny I have half paid attention the entire class and am still passing with an A easily. He genuinely cares about his students and how much they learn.
Dr. Tillman is extremely nice and cares about his students, but just take this class online. hw and quizzes are online and are helpful. lectures made the material more confusing because it was over explained, and he often confused himself in his own slides, making it harder to understand. only reason i went to lectures was bc of attendance.
Nice person who cares but the lecture is pointless. Just take the class online to save your time.
My professor pulled this up today in class which made me want to put a little input. He got very upset and hurt by the negative reviews on here which I found slightly odd since i think they are constructive criticism. The unfunny joke comments were uneeded but i agree i would recommend taking this online since you won't learn much in the lecture.
Great guy who cares about his students. If you are doing your assignments this class is a pretty easy A. However, he is not a very good teacher, he tends to overexplain a lot of things and makes content confusing. Overly strict about his students talking in class (needs complete silence). Gets off topic a lot and tries to tell a lot of jokes.
Makes lectures interactive with jokes (some of which don't land) and genuinely cares about his students and their progress in the course. Overall, a great professor and makes it easy to get a good grade in the course.
An extremely caring, impactful professor who knows the material inside and out. Lectures are long, but he attempts to keep students attentions with humor and unique examples of the concepts taught in class. While his humor may not be for everyone, and some may find his jokes distracting, he is an incredible professor who truly cares.
Easily one of the best teachers I have ever had, he is an excellent teacher who truly loves his job. The class isn't challenging at all; during his lectures, he explains concepts clearly and strives to make the class enjoyable for everyone. He is also a very caring teacher who genuinely wants the best for his students.
Prof. Tillman gives long, but informative lectures/presentations. Funny and very interactive with students. Attendance is mandatory, extra credit is offered often. 3 assignments due each week. He is the reason I decided to add a psychology minor! I can't recommend his class enough! Highly engaging and deeply cares about all of his students.
Dr. Tillman is a great psychology professor. The only reason I said I would not take him again is because I personally am not the biggest psychology person, so it would have made more sense for me to take it online. If you are very interested and wanting to be engaged in class, this would be the class for you.
He is a great professor. People are harsh on him because he can be all over the place and lectures are long. But he is a genuine person who cares for his students. He gives a TON of extra credit and it's so easy to get an A in this class. Definitely recommend!!
He's a nice guy but he cannot teach lectures. He taught an entire lecture something incorrectly and could not figure out the right way. This is extremely confusing for students who haven't learned stats before.
I don't get the hate. Lectures are long but feel shorter thanks to his jokes (even if they don't always land). He puts in effort to keep it engaging. Only 2–3 short assignments a week and no final. Super manageable class. Chill prof, fair grading. 10/10 would take again.
He doesnt teach the material very well and talks a lot about himself. His lectures were hard to listen to and understand exactly what he was trying to convey. A lot of his jokes dont land and i spent most of class waiting for the next class to start.
The lectures were long and hard to listen to, but the jokes made it a bit better (sometimes). One lecture he just talked about how he was upset about his ratings on here. A lot of the lectures were taught by YouTube videos.
Dr. Tillman is a great person with a big heart. I will say that he doesn't teach the class' content in the most interesting way: most times, he just reads off slides. However, that doesn't mean his lectures aren't entertaining or funny. As for difficulty, there are weekly online tests that take up some time, but these are in lieu of a final exam.
dr tillman is a great professor with awesome teaching goals, but his classes have no organization. hes a great prof, but dont take if you need the structure
A amazing professor, cares for his students and always wants them to succeed in everything. Would take this class again and again if I could.
Attendance is mandatory but it is also a very forgiving policy, the class was more about talking about our thoughts around the topic. He is very funny, knows how to keep the class engaged in the topics. He cares about his students a lot and you can tell he is passionate about the topics he is teaching. One of the best professors I have ever had!
He was super chill and would crack so many jokes, he was super caring and was flexible. He is lowkey strict when it comes to due dates with the quizzes but you get like 5 days to do it so if you miss the due date then thats on your fr. Overall good professor but i would take him in person and not online.
Probably one of the best examples of a good teacher making any class fun. I didn't end up really enjoying the actual material or being that interested, but was still able to keep up with all homework and quizzes and made attendance to each class. Professor Tillman was super fun to be around and made it easy to pay attention even when uninterested.
