He makes the subject interesting. He uses powerpoint for his lectures and tests on the info in his lectures. And he's very easy on the eyes.
I have to agree, very easy on the eyes...also, all of his info. is on powerpoint and all of his exams are from his notes, no surprises. All the exams are the same also, like they are all multiple choice and tf and written questions, always, great teacher
DON'T take him for micro. You will not do well. He had to curve the last test by 20 points just to get the average to a C.
I didn't even want this class, but I needed it. Mr. Tover made it very fun and and easy way to maintain my GPA. The tests come straight from the notes-- no suprises.
His powerpoint presentations didn't work for me at all. He is too fast paced and it isn't letting me absorb the lessons easily. Mr. Tovar doesn't really explain things properly.
"Master" Tovar was a very informative teacher that made micro easier to comprehend. Lectures are on power point and available to print. Easy on the eyes is an understatement..........
Mr. Tovar is a very good teacher, puts out a lot of info but thats because there is a ton of info for nutrition. He is sucha hottie! what nice arms and eyes ;)
he is to fast and its hard to absorb the info.instead of teaching the class he just repeats whats on his power points. he a good guy but teaching style sucks really bad.
He is a hottie, but as far as his teaching style, well it is not the best. All he does he read of the powerpoints. He is very handsome but as far as a teacher, I would not take him if I were you!
Tovar has the looks, but that won't help you in college. His teaching style needs some work.
teacher is very hot! Dresses nice. Covers a lot of material. Need to read chapters, and power points come in handy. Nice to look at but you really have to learn on your own.
I had him for micro and it was horrible. He is a nice guy but can't relate the material to his students. It was a struggle for everyone in the class. I got an A but only because he had to curve the tests so ridiculously. I would avoid.
i think richard is an incredible person. however, i was in his first microbio class, and he did not gear his lectures or exams for the departmental final. he's a great guy to talk to, but he needs improvement on teaching micro.
Mr. Tovar is good looking and really nice. His tests are not easy. They do seem to get better as the semester goes along. He does power point lectures, a little boring but he is very nice to look at. Really helpful in lab. All in all I would recommend him if you are motivated to do well.
This class was so easy! Notes are ready online, and you just follow along the lecture and tack points here and there. It can be boring at times, which is why it isn't a bad idea to have eye candy.....
His outlines are very unformal and you don't really understand what he is taking about. talking about or the points he is trying to get acorss. He puts questions on the test that he doesn't lecture about in class. I would advise nobobdy to take unless his class unless you want to teach yourself.
Mr. Tovar is a good professor. He is new to the job. I took his class in Fall but ended up withdrawing. His class was not hard. If you go and get the notes off webct and listen in class you will do fine. I made note cards straight from the notes never went to class and did fine on the tests.
He expects you to learn your material and not just memorize it. You must be able to study on your own. He is very helpful to anyone needing help. I recommend him as a teacher.
WHAT A HOTTIE. HOWEVER, HIS CLASS IS VERY DIFFICULT I STUDIED JUST THE OUTLINES HE GIVES YOU AND THE NOTES I TOOK FROM LECTURES AND GOT C'S ON TESTS NOW I MAKE MY OWN NOTES FROM THE BOOK AND HAVE EVEN HAD TO USE MY ANATOMY BOOK TO GET EXTRA INFORMATION THAT HE GOES IN DEPTH ABOUT. NOT A FUN CLASS!
VERY EASY CLASS! all i did was study his notes and wrote down any extra stuff he said about the notes. his tests are very straight forward, all you need to do is study the notes and listen to what he has to say about anything else. I NEVER OPENED THE BOOK ONCE! i got an A!
His tests are kind of hard. Very nice and easily relates to students. He has a good sense of humor. When he walks into the classroom on the first day you will think he's a student. He's one of those teachers that you just like to talk to (or marry).
Pros: Tovar has all his notes outlined on WebCT so it's easy to review the chapters. He's just as helpful and accessable as any other teacher, and he doesn't cout attendance! Cons: He doesn't give unit tests back so you can't use them to study, and you have to do a group project.
He puts his notes online making it easy to follow the lecture and study for his tests. He tests straight from his notes and his tests are straight foward and easy.
This was a really hard class!!! Mr. Tovar was very helpful in lab and whenever i had questions. He is very smart and knows what he is talking about!!! The only thing is that the exams were geared more towards if u had a degree in the stuff. But like i said it is hard material anyway.
Good teacher, fair grader (even if he threatens not to be), interacts well with students (still a kid himself). Door always open. The only complaint the class is a little too geared to micro (his specialty). If you want to learn your stuff take him, if you are just skipping thru don't.
as long as you can understand it, you can probably pass this class. he's not an easy A. he's a micro major and it shows when he teaches.
Okay seriously ladies he isnt that hot. He dresses nice. but as a teacher goes he is okay i found him a little hard but i dont learn well with power point so thats the only reason.
Mr.Tovar is an excellent teacher. He knows his subject and he is very helpful. His lectures are very clear and the tests come directly from his notes. I got an A in this class and I will definetly take him for Micro in spring term...If you want to learn Take Tovar:)
as long as you have good notes and study foethem you will do fine in his class. do not wait till the night before. the tests aren't as easy as you think.
He is good at explaining the material. As long as you study the notes you do good on his tests. The tests are not easy if you don't studt.
Not as good looking as he thinks he is. Tests are easy just study your notes and don't worry about the book. You'll learn alot and not even realise it.
I am not sure about the hot part, I can't comment on that, however he seems like anice guy commited to getting students to pass at least with the very minimum of a "C". Just look on the webct notes, study his lectures you'll do fine. A + factor is he is not hard at all on attendance in fact it is not mandatory. Just don't underestimate the intens
Good teacher. Funny and will help you understand anything. This is a teacher who you should get to know. Do not sit quietly in the back. If he likes you, you're money! Study the notes and skim the chapters.
maybe it was becuase the class was at 8 in the morning but he was not that good. His notes are helpful but he is not at all... he was always late and didn't explain the project well enough. He was not helpful and the tests were very hard.
He is the worst teacher I have ever had. He was always late for class and he talks so fast that it is very hard to understand him. He does not give any extra credit. His tests are very hard. The outlines he gives in class are very very broad and sometimes I don't think he even knows what he is talking about. I do not reccommend him to anyone.
He is really hot, but was not easy to learn from. He is one of those teachers that are extremely knowledgeable but don't know how to present material. You can pass this class if you already know a lot about the subject.
nice guy, but hard class.. he does everything with powerpoint but usually goes too fast and doesn't explain the material well enough..tests are very detailed but he does give u some easy points with a group project towards the end of the semester
Very attractive! Super easy class, also. Go to class and you're golden. I never bought the book. He interacts well with students and is very interesting. The project makes for an easy A and brings up your grade.
He comes to class and just gives powerpoints. Test are extremely hard and when lecturing he talks very fast. He seems like he knows the subject but just doesn't know how 2 present it. It's like he expects you to come in class with the same knowledge thar he has. I wouldn't recommend this teacher 2 any student. Take another teacher if possible
cool teacher
Nice instructor, but his teaching methods are completely oral. He uses powerpoints consisting of one word outlines. Using the book is a must, though he will tell you it is not mandantory. The only way to pass this class is to do all the work yourself. Avoid this class.
He is a really good teacher. You just can't print up the powerpoints and sleep on them all semester and expect an A... He does actually want you to LEARN the material. Not an 'easy' teacher- don't take him just so you have a pretty face to stare at all semester- but you will come out having actually learned something.
Tovar, He is a very intelligent, friendly, chilled and helpful teacher. I feel ,like others, that he talks too fast so maybe by reminding him to slow down you can comprehend the material better. This class is all about how much you want to put in it. If you are in a pit Tovar will help you come out. You just have to let him know how much you care and that you will try harder. He is a great person to share your mind with. Understanding and workable. I recommend making flash cards for his outlines and creating a study group to question each other. GREAT RESULTS!! I also reccomend going over your tests carefully cause I always ended up correcting the scantron machine for a few points :)
why isnt there a picture up here because he is so hott!!! ok, good teacher , very laidback, but tests are hard. you need to do a lot of reading, just listening to lectures is not enough. oh, and did i mention that he's hot and nice?
This class is VERY hard and his teaching style makes it even worse. Tests are incredibly difficult and the class has a 30:1 Girl:Guy ratio which can get extremely annoying. Unless you have some background in the subject and are able to devote a ton of out of class hours studying the text you definatly want to avoid this class.
Very, very nice looking guy, smart and great personality.Class is very tuff and he speak fast but is willing to slow down and walk you thro. Come prepared donot be distracted by his beauty and personality. If you are a guy, be prepare to be by yourself or two other guys. Go and discover Tovar but be prepare to learn.

He is very helpful, and did I metion he is so frickin hot.
Yes he is hot. But also a very helpful teacher. He has test review days in which he practically tells you what to study. He say you dont need the book but I think having it helped get my A. Take Him!
He must be in his mid 20's and is a UF student getting a Doctorate. Very cute!! His teaching is very good. Clearly explains. Study notes and youll do good. Book isnt necessary. He makes the class easy for you. Im taking him Summer B and hes awesome!
I believe he is one of the nices guys I have ever met. A great teacher who is willing to help you no matter what. Do not let him get to you at the beginning he is probably just messing around! You will probably have a lot of fun in his class! i recommend him all the way!
he is so awesome. I took his class summer a. I study for one of his test forever, and failed. I cried but he help me understand it and I passed. When the class started there was 40pple only 13pple made it to the final exam, and I was one of them. I love this teacher, and it does't hurt that he is completely a hottie.
he is my favorite person =)
I had Tovar for Nutrition and although the information wasn't that hard, he made his tests VERY HARD! You really have to spend a lot of time studying and must attend class to get notes, he does not use the book at all.
Class is very fun. He can be a bit critical at times, but all in good fun. Dont need your book at all! Material is not easy but he gives you great notes you can print and is always available to help and clarify material. I plan on taking him again for Micro...great guy.
Tovar is a nice teacher and his class is fun, but some info is not clear. He lectures and notes come from the lecture. If you miss a day you cant really have text to look over. He dosent use the book at all. Test are semi-difficult.
Many people say he is hard, but honestly, a teacher cant learn the material for you. Whatever you put into the class, you will get out of it. DEFINATELY buy the textbook. I made flashcards out of everything and got an A in the class. If you dont have the time to put into this class, your grade will reflect that.
Had Mr Tovar for Nutrition and Microbiology... Hes great. Nutrition was cake, and Micro is a little harder but he makes it interesting. You dont need the books, just show up to class and take notes and you can get an A. Id recommend him to anyone :)
He is Peruvian. HAHA definitely is a fun teacher, to crack jokes on. Some people think he plays to much soccer and doesn't care, but oh well. Class was fun to go to. Notes kinda suck. But overall easy
(My names Richard M. Tovar and I haven't always looked this good!!) LOL, His class is easy his test are hard but you will come out of it with a general knowledge, the class is mostly self taught, you get what you put in. P.S He looks like Mobley from the Jungle Book.
Ok, so Fabio is definately entertaining. Or perhaps Mowgli is entertaining. Either way they are the same person. Now, Tovar can jump around when it comes to notes, but you know what to expect on an exam if you ask. Bring notes to his study group and pay attention. Don't wing it, that only works for me!
My ninja Tovar...so hott! lol this guy rocks!Although his tests are pretty hard, there is no homework, just lectures and tests. attendance isnt mandatory and he knows what it feels like to be a student. JUST STUDY!! Youll do fine!
Mr.Tovar is an knowledgeable instructor. Actually his class is very easy. The only one that is not welcomed by the students is the lecture notes. But if you go to class and read the textbook based on his outline(won't take a long time to finish reading), it is super easy to get an A for each unit test which means an A for this class. No assignment
Ok Tovar is great. He's very good looking and he knows it and its true, it does look like fabio/mowgli but whatever he's so hot. You need to go to class to get the notes. Dont buy the book. If you go to class and pay attention you'll get an A.
Mr. Tovar is the best professor at this college. He makes sure you understand the material by giving study sessions before each test . The study sessions are out of his own time not during class. If you take good notes and study them you will at least make a B.Book not required to get good grade
Very understanding teacher, does his best to explain the notes. He talks a lil fast but is always willing to give extra help and is more than willing to. His study sessions are very helpful as well. and he's so freakin hot and nice to stare at during class..makes class alot better!!
Mr. Tovar is very good at carefully and logically explaining the concepts in his class. He really wants you to understand the big picture, not just the topic at hand, which I find commendable. That said, his tests are written to be intentionally tricky, & some of the answer choices are NEVER mentioned in class. Don't buy the book & take good notes.
Ok, so this is how it is...he is not all that cute, don't get me wrong he's not bad looking but I think my grade is more important. Word of advise take down every word he says during lecture. The good thing is he gives extra credit and drops the lowest test grade but still it's not as easy as everyone says. I wouldn't recommend him.
Professor Tovar is a very nice guy and makes the class humorous so it is easier to learn things. Plus he is hott. He's very understanding and is very willing to help you get the grade that you want. He holds study sessions at request of the students. Overall, he's a very entertaining and interesting person. Don't buy the book.
He was alright, talks really fast, and puts one word on powerpoint then talks about it. His handwriting is also hard to understand.
VERY HARD CLASS...DO NOT RECOMMEND ... DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND ... DON'T DO IT TO YOURSELF!!
Great professor. I would definitely recommend taking him. I had no background in Microbiology and aced every test, including the final, just studying his notes. The book isn't necessary. Just go to class, take notes, and ask questions. One of the best teachers I've had.
Take notes and study. He has optional study sessions for every test for the entire class in the evenings if needed. His tests are very tricky and very hard but as long as you study the notes you will do great. Print out lessons from angel and write everything that he says because it will be on the test. He is a very fun teacher.
Take notes like crazy & write down everything he says no matter how unimportant it seems. DO buy the book. His tests are for designed to apply what he taught you. Few questions come straight out of the notes so know the material really well. You can't get through this class without putting in lots of time studying. Nice guy. Hard teacher.
HARD CLASS. Great Professor. take notes and use his Powerpoints. talks fast, but will slow down if you ask. cares very much about your grade and your outcome. (however he will not GIVE yu your grade..u must earn it) he helped me to enjoy MCB and i diff. recommend him. do buy the book just in case (i only used it for clarity on certain subjects)
Excellent teacher, if you don't understand something, he helps you out and makes sure you understand. Very funny and very thorough. I would recommend him over and over!
Everyone on here just says he is good looking and doesn't actually explain his teaching style. He reads VERY fast and his lecture notes are very short and you have to fill everything he says yourself and I mean everything!. He doesn't use the book. This class is no walk in the park! ITS HARD! TRUST ME!!
definately one of the best prof. i've ever had.very nice prof,so helpful.offers study sessions for every test.do attend those session ur bound to get 'A'.remember to ask himlots of questions in the study session n he'll tell clearly wat to study n wat to leave...its so easy to learn things from him write every single word tht he says, coz his tests
Excellent teacher, infact he is the second best at santa fe...katie arnold(algebra)is the bestest prof.
The guy is smart he is just a really bad teacher. Expect to learn nothing from him .
Doesn't really teach out of the book, though his notes do follow along with the book if you do buy it. People rely too much on given powerpoints now and he only gives an outline so you have make sure to take great notes and there should be no problem getting an A. He has no problem answering any questions you have.
Tovar is very, very smart, but he can be very difficult to follow. He talks fast and gets off topic, so you have to speak up if you missed something, which you will. If you are a good notetaker, you should be ok. Tests can be ridiculously HARD.
Very smart teacher, but hard to follow sometimes. Gets off topic a lot and falls behind on the schedule. However, he is very helpful and geniunely cares about his students.
Most of the people on here who say he is a good teacher are probably just in love with him. If I would have taken this class with a normal mix of people it would have been different. However, because people think he is so attractive the class is made up of mostly girls. Dumb girls who think it is okay to interrupt all the time and are stupid.
This class is difficult because there is so much to memorize. I think Tovar's printable slides could've been clearer. I wouldn't dare miss a single class b/c I know I'd get behind. Tests are HARD!!! But he will help you through if you ask. YOU HAVE TO ASK for help! He wants his students to do well! His lab was super easy!
If you follow the outline, you'll do great. I went back and added notes. I received a B, but that was b/c of lack of effort. He talks fast, so be ready. He's funny and easy on the eyes. I was never lost. Ask questions and you will receive detailed answers. Sometimes he rambles, but I never felt like I was short-changed. Take him; he's great!
He tries, but he is too scatter brained to be effective. He rushes through the chapters barely mentioning many items that he then puts on the tests which are ridiculously HARD!! He honestly seems not to care at all about his students success, laughing at us as he showed us our low grades. BTW if everyone gets in the 60s on a test its you, not us
Very hard A. Dont buy the txtbook work off your notes and google what you need. He goes over everything in class that you need and nothing more. He talks fast and you have to raise your hand if you dont understand. Dont be shy ask a lot of questions he does want to help but he is also young with a million things goin on. Go to his office.
Very hard class!!! He takes all the time in talking , and out of 5 exam one exam gets cancelled. plz dont buy mcb2000 textbook. He gets off the track...
His class is kind of hard because he gets off topic a lot. He talks all class and then it's not very clear what we actually need to know for the class. He's willing to help though if you want to put in the extra time to go see him. I didn't really use my textbook at all. You only need it if you want to look of something else other than your notes.
Provided notes are coded and hard to decipher. Often things are omited so they're not much use. Lectures poorly planned and executed. He doesnt make it clear what you need to study, often going over material in passing that is questioned heavily on tests. He does not prepare you for your tests or final exam. Hard material so take a better professor
The material is not very difficult. I made A's on the tests. He gives an extra credit opportunity and a group project grade booster. His lectures could be better and more planned out. If you attend class and study before the exam you will do fine. It is not work intensive.
Very hard class but useful! However his teaching style is so different. He doesn't make what we should study for the exam and final cleared! So be ready to take his class!!! On contrast, he is a very nice teacher and willing to help you out.
he makes class fun! makes you laugh. the subject was alright, i mainly took it for requirements, but he made certain elements interesting. highly recommended.
Young, very intelligent, moves a little fast and the text book is not necessary at all. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you should definitely go because if you aren't in class to take notes you're not going to learn properly or do well on tests. He goes off of his powerpoints, he's SUPER attractive, hilarious, and keeps you interested. TAKE HIM!
Don't miss class and you'll get excellent grades. Print out the material he provides on Angel and bring it with you to class. The textbook isn't really necessary unless you need more clarity, in which case you could just stay after to talk to him. You'll probably want to once you get a look at this hottie ;) He's really funny too! I say take him!!
Very attractive. Very funny. Good teacher. This class is going to be very difficult no matter who you take it with. Study, study, study. That is key. I would take him again in a heart beat.
Study his notes. I probably opened the textbook at least 6 times throughout the semester. He makes Nutrition more difficult than necessary, but hey, what he lacks as a teacher, he makes it up with his looks.
Easy class. Very good teacher. I would recommend him to anyone. Super sexy as well ;)
Awesome teacher. Will not "give" you your grade, as he says. But if you study and put forth effort, he will help you as much as he can. I'd definitely take him again.
Dont buy the book, doesnt use it. Have knowledge of basic anatomy or you will be lost at first, I suggest take 2084 prior to this class. Dont think he is going to give you a study guide or knowledge of what will be on test, not handing you it, study, and go to class, his information is from class.
He's funny & a really chill teacher. Getting a good grade in his class is a little tricky because he talks so fast & his tests have trick questions (especially in the T/F) Heres what I found extremely helpful: RECORD HIS LECTURES IN CLASS & THEN MAKE FLASHCARDS FROM THEM. Theres no possible way to write down everything he says in class. Got a B :)
He doesn't take attendence but you should definietly go to class. He talks fast and doesn't go by the book so don't even buy it. Doesn't do study guides but does have test reviews if everyone wants it. He's nice so if you ask for help, he'll help you and set you up with a tutor.
This class was interesting and Tovar is cool but not clear on what you should study on exams. There was way too much material for only 50 questions on an exam. Be prepared to purchase scantrons as he will not. The midterm was crazy so pay attention to the lab practicals. DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT Take this class in a mini term you will die!
Tovar teaches this class with finesse. He puts a lot of effort into making the lectures interesting, though he is adamant that you should read the chapters BEFORE the lecture. In our class we did a few flipped classrooms, and one group project. There are random reading quizzes which turned out to be pretty helpful come final time.
Tovar is a little hot tamale but talks super super fast! so be sure to pay close attention and follow his notes that he post online. you don't really need the book for this class because he mostly does his own lecture notes.
AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL!!!!!! Whatever you do, do NOT take this class. He is very unclear & does not go by the book and gets off topic way too easily. He doesn't do study guides and is extremely unclear of whats going to be on the test. He gives quizzes and the questions are based on whatever questions pops into his head at that very second.
great professor makes the class fun! take good notes and write everything that is on his slides that is what his tests are consisted of
The way he has his grades set up set me up to fail.lectures do not follow what is on the exams. We didn't go over some of the information in the exams. everything except exams is one point which destroyed my grade when I did bad on exams.
I took this class online for a 6-week mini semester. Professor Tovar is the BEST teacher. Listen to his audio lectures while following along with the lecture notes, and take your own notes. This professor wants you to succeed! Study his audio lectures, put forth your best effort and you will do good! He is very kind and helpful, and hot! Take him!

Tovar's teaching style was very different, I (and plenty others) didn't understand or grasp anything in his class. He's a nice teacher willing to help out when he could but that didn't help when needed the most. Unclear of what would be on the tests, sped through power points and spoke as if you know everything about Microbiology. AVOID HIS CLASS!
Will do anything to help you out with understanding concepts. Will explain to the class the same thing in different ways to ensure that the entire class understands it. Hard class, yes. Near impossible to make an A, esp. while enrolled full time. Tests are HARD,so know the material inside and out. He even meets on weekends for study groups. Lecture
Tovar is a great teacher, but talks really fast, so pay attention at all times. He does not use the book, so don't buy it. Tests are made directly from daily lessons, so take really good notes. If you don't miss any days of class and write down every detail he says, you will do fine.
Not the worst teacher I have ever had but certainly NOT THE BEST. Tests are HARD and he makes good powerpoints but gets off topic to easily. DO NOT buy the book he never uses it much less uses the material out of.
Tovar makes his classes fun. I never dreaded going to his class. His test are not hard if you study the material he gives you during lecture you are sure to pass. He is very lenient when it comes to missing exams. I do recommend taking this teacher but the only thing bad about his class is that you have to show up every class.
Tovar is very fun and friendly. He does not explain everything clearly and quite often confuses students with his lectures. He will talk a long time about something that is not relevant to the topic, then realize he doesn't have enough time to cover the actual lecture, so he rushes through it. If you're a full time student-- AVOID his classes.
Tovar is extremely helpful. He really wants his students to understand the material and do well. He will go beyond what is expected to make sure you understand including holding study groups on campus before tests. This is a tough class, but if you write what he says in lectures and study you will do well. Everything on tests is in his lectures.
Tovar is great. I was easily able to stay focused in class bc he kept it interesting. He's great about answering any questions and clearing things up for you. He really cares that you do well. Follows the syllabus for the most part. I think I used my book a couple times but his notes are pretty good. I definitely recommend this professor!
I absolutely loved the way he did his lectures online! He records his voice so you can go back and listen to him as many times as you need to while you're taking notes on your comuter. The class is super easy if you are good at tests! plus you dont even need the text book.
He doesn't give much work for extra points but study the study guide and test aren't too bad. He really knows what he is talking about.
Need to study for tests even though a lot of people think this class is an Easy A
No feedback on tests. Online lectures were painful.
Tovar is too busy trying to be everyone's friend. He's funny and keeps the class interested but that's where the positive stops. He gets sidetracked so easily and then rushes to catch up. His lectures are not indicative of what's on the tests and tests are each 17% of your grade with no other coursework to balance a bad grade. AVOID HIS CLASS.
Tovar is a really nice person. However, he teaches this class and expects you to know it on the spot before every class period. There is a ton of memorization involved, but you also need to understand every detail of the criteria being taught. Most difficult class I have ever taken. Get ready to study a lot.
Mr. Tovar was a very difficult professor. he is funny but his lectures aren't clear and his test do not match the study guide. I didn't not enjoy his class at all. he does not give a lot of extra credit. his tests are pretty tough.
Very good teacher, takes time to help you if you need it. Gives extra credit occasionally. Is a very fair grader, but you do have to study to get a good grade. Tests are difficult but all the material is based off of what he teaches in class.
Hardest class I have ever taken. Do not take Tovar! Your grade is strictly based off of testsquizzes. All lectures are online and you are expected to know all of the material before class starts. Quizzes everyday as soon as you walk in the door. Lectures don't match the tests at all. Don't waste your time or money here.
Tovar is one of the nicest (and best looking!) professors I've had at SF which is why I hate to give him a bad review, but seriously, if you are able to take someone else, I'd highly recommend doing so. His audio lectures are difficult to understand and the exams look NOTHING like the HW, quizzes or textbook. Also very unclear about what to study.
OK this is a tough class, but I don't think its his fault. I took it online, you do have to go in for 4 tests and a final. He will work with you if you cant make the day and time. He did answer my emails and met with me at the school to help. The material is a lot of memorization and medical knowledge. Online course is organized.
Tovar's hilarious and super nice. I think he genuinely wants you to succeed but honestly the tests are ridiculous. You basically have to write down every single thing he says in lecture if you want a relatively good grade.
Tovar was a fantastic teacher in my opinion. He is the king of analogies and metaphors. He is young and energetic which made the class interesting and fun at times. He can stray away from discussion every now and then but it wasn't often. the only thing I wish he did was make power points because there was a lot of info to memorize with no book.
Expect to listen to the module lectures before class! Professor Tovar tries to make sure that you understand the material and is willing to help you outside of class. Very enjoyable class to take... Would take him again!
When he does the lectures he talks to us like we already understand everything and he won't really explain it. He talks really fast and his tests are nothing like the lectures or notes that you take. If you take this class I suggest getting a tutor or taking it with another teacher.
I advise you to take another professor unless you like being treated like you know everything already.
Undoubtedly one of the best professors at Santa Fe. As long as you put in the time and effort, you will do just fine. If I could take all of my classes with him, I would. Highly recommended!
He is a really good professor. I would say 80-85% of the questions on the test come straight from the audio file lectures. I would highly recommend take good notes on the audio file. This class was one of the easiest A I have ever got. REMEMBER, SPEND TIME TAKING NOTES ON THE AUDIO FILES YOU WILL GET AN A IN THE CLASS.
He is an amusing teacher but I would't recommend taking him especially on a subject like microbiology which itself is already a challenge. He talks really fast and expects you to know everything. I studied every single night and yet barely passed his exams. The finals was actually easier than his exams.
I took this course during Summer A, so it was a very fast-paced course. I absolutely loved Tovar, and he was extremely helpful when anyone didn't understand something. I recommend him to all of my friends, and I would certainly take him again. If you study the material, you will pass no problem.
He gives you outlines and expects you to memorize everything on them, but if you just take the time to study then he basically gives you everything you need even for the final! He is willing to work with you and although it is a lot of information I can actually walk out and tell you something I learned. But seriously don't even buy the textbook.
Show up to class, listen to the audio lectures, ask questions, and score high on your quizzes. Although this class is science heavy, you shouldn't have any problems with the material if you actually do your part. Tovar is an amazing professor. Not a bad thing to say about him.
I took this class online. He gives you a lecture outline that you must fill out by watching his lecture video. It is terrible. Nothing on that helps with the exam! His videos are so hard to focus on, too. Musical background, really? Give me lecture NOTES. Exams are heavy, they decide the grade. I didn't take this class to stare at him.
Professor Tovar is a good teacher, he responds quickly to emails, and give feedback when you ask for it. His course is set up to make it very easy to get an A on all his assignments. Listen and take notes from his lectures!! Everything he says is important. His test are the hardest parts because they are worded a little tricky. Just study!!
Tovar is fantastic! Nutrition is not easy (nor are his exams), but he was available whenever I needed help. He encourages understanding, not just memorizing and purging. He was very open to questions and knows his stuff! He made learning fun and interesting, especially with his examples. Definitely one of the best teachers I have ever had.
Great teacher, covers the material well. Organized. Easy to get in touch with. Exams are extremely difficult if you don't know the material like the back of your hand.
best professor, super cool, easy to get in touch with. Go Tovar!
First and foremost, he is HOT. His teaching style is awesome, and he is a funny guy. I would take the course again if I had to, but he made it easy to pass.
Tovar is the best professor I have had so far at Santa Fe. Even though this class is challenging and requires a lot of studying, Tovar teaches in a way that makes you want to learn. I would definitely recommend this teacher to anyone and I plan to take him again for a different course!
Easy going class. I would take him again if he taught other courses. Not to mention, I think he is hot.
Great professor
This class sounds like it should be easy, but however this professor makes this course extremely difficult. His lectures are easy to understand, but the exam questions are very hard to answer. This professor also DOES NOT GIVE EXTRA CREDIT like other nutrition professors. Please do yourself a favor and do not take his course.
His lectures are all online. There's no notes or any written information to study from. Basically you have to memorize everything from his videos. His exam questions are very hard and are not even close to what he teaches from his lectures. He also grades harshly on "opinionated questions" that we have in our assignments, which I don't understand.
Great Professor and know his stuff! I wish he would give more of an effort to put the information from his lectures directly into is exams tho. HIs exams are really different from what he teachs, but overall his class is clear.
Hardest class ever.
I loved this class, he made the material very easy to understand and his lectures were very entertaining. Doesn't mark attendance but if you miss class you miss a lot of important information, especially for the test. People have trouble with the tests but if you study the online videos (he provides outline)/take notes in class the tests are fine.
He is an amazing professor. As long as you do the outlines and watch the lecture videos, then you will be fine. You don't need to purchase a textbook. The material is self explanatory when you understand it. He does give you at least 2 extra credit opportunities in the semester. He wants you to past and is willing to help you reach that goal.
Nice professor, but test are so hard. Wish he would take it easy with the questions on the test and worth 60%!!!!!!! Other than that the rest of the course is pretty chill.
Tovar makes nutrition enjoyable. His exams are pretty tough but you will definitely be prepared for the final. There is a 5 question quiz at the beginning of class almost every class.
Great teacher. He has 15 minute lectures online and explains them in class. His test are tough, but you are given all the material to make a passing grade, it all depends on how much you study. He is a funny guy who genuinely enjoys his job. I'm walking away from the class with applicable knowledge I can use in everyday life.
He has lecture videos online which he gives you an outline to so write good notes from that. Also when studying for the exams, just study the course objectives and the lecture/ video notes. Its definitely possible to get an A if you study well, the tests are not that hard but some questions make you think. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!
Touch professor, makes the material harder to understand than what it should be.
Tovar's a straight shooter. His class is no joke, even though his lectures seem chill and entertaining. His tests are situation-based and requires you to use critical thinking skills. He gives plenty of extra credit and class is mandatory since you won't get a lot from the video lectures. Take him if you're serious about working in healthcare.
The online class is composed of essentially video lectures and a crappy outline. Lectures are difficult to listen to (even following along with my book). The course Exam's (60% of your grade) are especially tedious and proctored (even the online course). I would avoid taking this class online if I could do it over again.
Great professor!
Took him online for 6 weeks, horrible! no PowerPoints, just boring lecture videos that you have to listen and pay close attention and take notes. He gives assignments and quizzes but they're not worth much. The tests are worth about 60% of your grade. I Wouldn't recommend anyone to take him online in a short session.
He's nice and a good teacher but makes test extremely hard on purpose. And he makes the test up the day of. He'll tell you what he'll put on the test but then later some won't be on the test. His test mostly consist of all of the above and none of the above type questions which makes hard. quizzes were every Friday when we went back to class.
Very tough class, I took it for 6 weeks in summer and was working over 25 hours a week. DO NOT WORK AND TAKE THIS CLASS. He's funny but doesn't really teach. You have to teach yourself. Tests are whack. No study guide. Prepare to put time into this class or else you'll fail. Harder than Anatomy/ Physiology.
If you want to pass, DO NOT take this class. No lecture powerpoints. only video with loud background music. Which mean you need to google and repeat the video 100 times to fill out the study material. Grade percentage is non-sense ( exams are 60%, assignments are 6%). His test is extremely hard. He tests your critical thinking more than lecture.
Online lectures only. Be prepared to dedicate your life to this class. I wouldn't recommend taking this professor with more than 1 other class on your plate. His online lectures are ridiculous and so hard to take notes on..! He quizzes you on what you have studied, at home.. the second you walk in class. Quiz every class based on online lectures
horrible professor, doesn't teach at all
Tovar is a very friendly and intelligent guy. The issue is that he received his Masters in Food Microbiology and he teaches as if you are aspiring to be a food microbiologist. He gives a 5 question quiz almost each class which aren't too bad but the test are WAY to challenging for his lecture. Don't take this class with more that 5 other class.
Awesome professor and class. Great lectures, funny, not too much homework. Mainly just go to class and study a little bit.
Tovar was amazing, but I didn't really enjoy this class. We relied so heavily on his video presentations and got quizzed on them almost every single class. The tests seemed to have information that was never covered in his lectures and videos as well. I'm surprised I passed with a B because no matter how much I studied, I never felt prepared.
Tovar was not a bad professor but he was disorganized, off topic, and not inspirational. He shares too many unrelated opinions during lecture. He does not seem to value college education and if you do, you will find him frustrating. I recommend if you want to learn about nutrition, buy a textbook. His lecture videos are unbelievably boring.
This class was very straight forward. I took it in Fall B semester. He divided the course into 4 parts with 4ish sections in each. He gives an outline for each lecture which you fill out and use to study for your quiz and test. The tests are 60% of your grade which always makes me nervous; he did curve some of the tests.
Spends so much time in stories and rushes through what's important and then tests you on it. Multitasks while in office hours. Entertaining lectures, however.
Took him online. My advice: Don't. His video lectures DO NOT cover all potential questions for exams. He grades harshly on his Case Study assignments (3). Lecture videos are accompanied w/ loud background noise causing difficulty focusing on what he is saying. Tests are hard. You only get 5 mins to do a quiz. Take him if u can teach yourself.
I got my first ever C in this class. Tovar is a nice guy who cares but makes tests harder than they should be. I took him online accelerated, I would highly recommend you dont take him online unless this is your only class.
Tovar was good a teacher. His class you would have quizzes on every online lecture video but if you watch the video and study you will do fine in his class. His test are pretty straight forward and he tells you what is going to be on them His case studies are hard though. I would take him for this class
Tovar is a good professor, but his tests are a little harder than they need to be. You can't pass by just memorizing, you need to make sure you thoroughly understand the material. He taught well for my learning style, but I think it's harder for some to learn. 4 unit tests and about 15 lecture quizzes.
Tovar is a really great professor! The test are rough, he definitely tests your ability to think critically. The Case studies are no joke but if you ATTEND CLASS and actually study the material you'll do fine. He ALWAYS has a review class where you can get any question anwered that you have. He is super related and his lectures are a lot of fun.
Tovar is a cool guy and very helpful. He does set clear guidelines the first day of class of what you will have to do to do well in his class. His lecture videos aren't as bad as everyone says, and if you need clarification on something from the lecture he will always explain it before a quiz. Case studies on the exams are hard.
Honestly, one of the best teachers I've had hands down. He's super flexible and down to earth. As long as you do good in his class, he's always willing to help you out. His video lectures aren't as bad as the other reviews give it. I think those are just salty students that didn't put an effort. Definitely take him for Nutrition. Great guy/teacher.
He's a great professor! Wants all his students to pass and understand the material. Exams are not hard if you study from course objectives, but case studies are difficult. His tests are not about memorization, its about application. Ask questions on things you don't understand! He will always answer. 5 questions quiz almost every class (super easy)
I took this course online and it was very tough. The tests are worth 60%, so it is very hard to bring up your grade if you do poorly on even one test. His lectures are presented in the form of videos, which are very hard to comprehend because they move quickly and there is loud background music. As a straight A student, I received a B in this class
Good guy and will do his best to make help you pass. Make sure you network with other students in class daily or weekly. The textbook is free online. It is mostly memorization. Flash cards are a must. It is not an impossible class but the hardest one Ive ever taken.
Nice guy, but his class is not worth the $ I paid. Test very difficult. Unorganized lectures. Be prepared to teach yourself. No powerpoint/resources online. Just told us to google list of terms. Told us to save our $ and not to buy the txtbk. Told us this is the only way we will actually learn the material. First time I got less than an A.
This was by far the worst teacher I've ever had. The material in a lecture is only partly on the test and there are questions he has simply admitted to not teaching in lectures, yet does not curve test's. I studied 9 hours for one test and got an F, got 100 on case studies and spent hours on those, but are 6% of grade and test are 80%.Do not take!
Nutrition is already hard, but Tovar makes it harder. The exams are weighted way too heavily. I had to withdraw and have to take with a different professor next semester. Beware.
Professor Tovar is a great professor! I loved his class and thought the material was very straightforward. If you watch the lecture videos, go to class and take notes then there is no reason you can't get an A or B in the class! The tests are only hard if you don't study or study the night before! 4 tests, quiz every week, and easy group project.
Tovar is straightforward. Lecture videos on canvas (hwork), easy 5 question quiz (in class), & further explanation in class. Easy group project & extra credit. As for the test, questions can be tricky-it's hard to earn an A. Study a few nights before the test, I suggest notes from the lecture videos get turned into quizlets. He is overall good.
Professor Tovar is awesome! He's passionate about teaching and wanting students to learn and doing the work. Online wasn't mandatory, but if you don't do the work, you won't get the grade. He's also doesn't handout extra credit like it's going out of style. I definitely earned my "B" in his class, could've earned a low "A". He does communicate.
Tovar is a good guy but could be a better professor. his lecture videos are super boring. his test are NOTHING like the lecture videos. tests are HARD. he doesn't curve test, or give any extra credit. the group project is terrible, and completely unnecessary. he is available in office hours, thats the only good thing about him.
Tovar is amazing! You definitely have to study a lot and really pay attention to in-class lectures as well as take notes on the video lectures at home. Your grade is strictly quizzes and tests, no extra credit except maybe at the very end. He really makes sure you know the material on the tests and is super helpful if you need further explanations.
Tovar is an excellent teacher. If you take the time to study instead of crunching it all the night before an exam, you can do well in his class. The lectures are very helpful since he gives better understanding of the material. I personally will walk away from this class actually having learned about human nutrition.
Honestly the hardest class I have ever taken. The class was very test heavy and he claimed that it you knew the lectures youd get an A but that was a lie. I could probably recite the entire lecture to you and I still failed the exams bc they were very clinical based on medications we never went over. This is the only class I have received a C in
You must study hard in order to receieve A/B. I took this class online accelerated, very doable. Make sure to study his lectures intensively, and know the course objectives and discussion questions for the exams. His lectures do not mention all of the course objectives so you will have to look them up or go in for help. Tests are difficult, study!
i do not understand people who say this class is hard. The only thing i ever did was listen to the lecture videos a few times over to ensure i understood
Online: Quizzes and exams are worth 70% of your grade in this class. He gives video lectures and you take notes with the outline. Then do a discussion that isnt worth points but some questions are on the exams. And then he gives 5 question quizzes that you only have 5 minutes to take. His exams are nothing like his lectures. Hes very inconsistent
This was class was a rollercoaster ride. If you are still waiting in line (aka. if you can still drop this class) and haven't gotten strapped into the rollercoaster, seriously consider switching to a different professor. In able to succeed, I recommend recording his lectures and re-listening to it at least twice before exams.
I am so glad i took his class. He really does make you work for your grade, but he really helps you succeed.
He is very test heavy and you will not receive an A on any of the exams. The highest grade throughout the whole course for all the exams was a B, averaging to an F every time. The exams are also most of his grade. All of the content on his exam is not taught so don't expect a good exam gram. Quizzes are easy but not good representation of his exam.
He definitely makes his in-class lectures fun. He teaches in a way that actually makes you remember the material. His exams are fairly hard, especially Exam 2. Each lesson has an online lecture, they're not that long, you will have a 5 question quiz after each lecture. Overall he's an amazing teacher but be ready to put in the time and effort.
He's an amazing professor, very funny and very good at explaining the material. If you put in your part of effort, you will pass easily. The class only gets hard because there are some complex concepts you need to fully understand to be able to pass the tests. 15 quizzes (one a week), 4 exams, and the final are your only grades.
Really good teacher but hard subject. He does his best in helping everyone. Dont buy the test book, you wouldnt need it.
Tovar is a really funny guy, but honestly this class was way harder than I expected it to be. The only grades are quizzes, exams & your final. There is a group project at the end of the year that can kinda boost your grade but you for sure have to work for your grade. Lots of studying to even try and pass this class.
I really enjoyed Tovar's class. He was entertaining and would breakdown any questions you have. However, if you don't show for class, it would be very difficult to pass his exams. No homework, all quizzes in class. They are very easy if you watch the lecture before. I found his class very interesting. I would take again. 10/10
AWFUL, SO test heavy and you will not receive an A on any of the exams. The highest grade throughout the whole course for all the exams was a B, averaging to an F ALMOST 100% OF THE TIME, don't expect a good exam grade, i am SO serious. I wish I would have NOT taken his class. Quizzes are easy but not good representation of his exam.
Great guy, very personable and passionate about nutrition. BUT, it's a ton of information to learn and weekly quizzes are designed to trip you up. He goes over major points in lectures, but they won't be on the tests - the minor stuff you didn't cram WILL. His way of making sure you GET IT, not just studying for the test. VERY difficult class.
Took this class for Spring A. Professor Tovar is a nice guy. He responds quickly and gives thorough answers to any questions you may have. His tests are about application, not memorization, so you really need to understand the concepts. Case studies are difficult and time consuming. Funny videos supplement each lecture. Take him, you'll do fine.
The lectures were not helpful at all. I learned more from Google than anything he said. The questions on gthe test are nothing he actually talks about and he uses an anatomy book for a reference??? 4 Unit exams count 60% , Weekly quiz 10%, Case studies 10%, Finial exam 20%. I have never had to drop/ withdraw from a class before. Shameful
Great guy, knows his stuff, good personality. A lot harder than I expected. You will not pass if you don't come to every class and study. Almost no one gets an A on exams (maybe one or two people each time). Exams are much harder than the material presented in lectures. If you're an A student normally, get ready to be happy with your B.
YOU MUST ATTEND OFFICE HOURS AND WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING HE SAYS. His goal is to be tricky and you will have to fight for your grade. His questions are 100% from his lectures but, if you go to office hours, he usually tells you what to study. The hardest exam is the second so study thoroughly. He wants you to live and breathe this class.
Professor Tovar is a great teacher. The class is challenging. Having had A&P2 and microbiology helps. Gives detailed online lectures that translate well to notes. Exams consist of 2/3 brute memorization and 1/3 application (which relies on you mastering the memorization). Don't underestimate this class.
Gives quizzes almost every day, which can either be good or bad depending on if you study. The material is somewhat difficult but Professor Tovar will work with you and explain anything you do not understand. Overall an easy class as long as you are attentive to the content since exams and quizzes are the main grades.
great professor, he's straight foward. pay attention in class, take good notes and you'll do fine. just study
Best professor at Santa Fe. Hilarious. Lecture is always engaging. Makes science fun!
This was one of the hardest classes I've taken. Professor Tovar was not nearly as helpful as he could've been and it just frustrated me beyond belief. I legitimately cried over the stress this class caused me. Be aware that if you plan to take this class, you're gonna have to work extraordinarily hard.
Definitely the hardest class i've ever taken. I studied really hard and barely passed. A lot of the material he gives you to study isn't even on the exam, I would avoid this professor if possible.
I have literally taken his class TWICE, and both times have failed with an F. The first time I took it online during my second semester of college at Santa Fe (May 13 Aug. 10. 2019), and I failed thinking that maybe online just wasn't for me, took it next time in person (Aug. 20, 2019 Dec. 7, 2019) and failed again. His class is super hard!
Has video lectures and goes through the material during class. You think you know the material because you get a 100 on the quizzes, study everyday, then fail the exams. This is one the hardest classes ive ever taken. The material you learn is not on the exams. And you have 10 questions on the exam of a case study of a disease that wasnt taught.
Professor Tovar made this class extremely difficult and barely provided any resources to study from. Exams are misleading and designed to trick you. Studied hard for every exam just to fail them all. This class isn't designed for you to learn any material.
These reviews are very dissenting. For me, I took this in a half semester. His lectures are sound to what's on the test. The tests are thought intensive, in that there are case studies toward the end that test your application. The rest of the test is definitive in recall and doesn't pose much of an issue. I've found this class very simple.
Professor Tovar is one of the best professors I've had. The material may seem difficult, but as long as you watch the lecture videos and actively listen during class, you should have no trouble passing! Put in effort and you'll see results. Tovar makes his grading criteria clear and tells you what topics to expect on the tests. Lectures are great!
Best teacher I have ever had. He really cares about his students. I had trouble getting to class because I had to drive a couple of hours, and he understood 100%. He even pulled me aside to talk about my future in the medical field and even offered different friends he had I could talk to. The cla has four exams and he tells you everything ab them!
Theres no extra credit. Tests are very hard. No chance to review the incorrect answers
Tovar is a super cool professor but his tests are pretty difficult. You really have to attend the lectures because even though he provides lecture notes, they are not enough to get you passing on the tests. Pay attention to details and the case studies because on every exam there is40 multiple-choice, 5 responses, and a 5 question case study.
Professor Tovar is a great professor. He gets back to you in a timely manner via email. If you need more in depth help in the class on anything he is always available to help you during his office hours via Zoom. He also puts some funny clips into the weekly modules to make the class fun. If you participate in the class you will get a good grade.
There's a lot of awesome information to gain from taking this class; however, the online experience was difficult. There wasn't many study tools or visuals to help prepare for exams. The case studies should've been worth more than 10% because of all the hard work put into them. Overall, this online class was stressful and requires solid effort!
Absolutely great teacher, made even the hardest of nutrition concepts very pallatable. I did make hundreds of notecards to study this material, so if you study, communicate with him and show up to class you will do fine. If you have no interest in this material it will be much harder to study it. Go into it with an open mind and WANT to learn it.
Ive talked to 4 other people who took Prof Tovar online this semester. His class is nearly impossible to get an A in online. Im sure in person hes great but online his lectures are only 10-20 min long, and even if you study directly from his provided course objectives, youll find it hard to get above a C. DO NOT TAKE ONLINE WITH TOVAR
I took Tovar's class in Fall 2021. This is the hardest course I took at SF. Tovar is hilarious and is willing to help if you ask. Spend a lot of time preparing for the exams in this class. The exams are very hard and not like the quizzes. You will get low scores at the beginning (Ds/Cs) but end the semester with a B or A. The final is super easy.
Tovar truly cares about his students and is willing to meet with you if you don't understand a topic. His class can be difficult but if you work for it you will pass. Pay attention to what he says to study for and you will be fine. He also makes pretty funny jokes during lectures to keep us all awake.
Attendance is optional but extremely important as there is a quiz for every lecture and the lectures include more than just what the notes provide. Tests are very important since there arent very many grades. He is an amazing professor, really cares about the success off students and wants you to do the best you can. Office hours are helpful
I wouldnt recommend taking this course with professor Tovar online. His lecture videos are hard to follow along and he doesnt explain much.
This professor made accusations of cheating on multiple occasions. He does not go over material just gives it to you and expects you to memorize it all in one week.
would not recommend
Excellent professor! very clear online lectures that had all the information you need for the test. I took him for a short semester (A term) and it was difficult because there was a lot of information. If you put time into the class you will do well. I would definitely take him again!
His lectures have everything you need to succeed, just need to dedicate time and study and you'll get an A. It was super easy to set-up a meeting with him if I needed help, he was very nice and even has office hours via zoom after 5pm for people like me that have a 9-5 job.
Great Professor. He is fair and gives good information. Fun to listen to. Highly recommend him.
Professor Tovar was by far the best professor I have had in my three years at Santa Fe. He was incredibly accommodating, was very clear with his syllabus, provided in-depth analysis with his lectures, and overall was amazing. I would heavily recommend this professor to anyone needing nutrition to apply to the nursing program. Amazing! 10/10
I loved this class! It was so much fun and the lectures were always engaging. I did not find the exams hard, everything was clearly laid out in the lectures (both video and in class). The case studies on the exams are not difficult but they may require certain outside knowledge.
Professor Tovar was amazing! I dropped the class due to outside circumstances, but he was very accommodating. His syllabus is clear and he is understanding of situations and when I retake the class I want to have him as a professor again.
PLEASE.... go ahead and choose another professor. I cant tell you how many times this man will accuse you of cheating. He admitted to accusing 15 students giving them all F's !! His teaching is not very clear and wasted my money taking his class!
These reviews made me believe this course would be good but it was the absolute opposite and I would have taken this course with another professor. Dont take this class with prof. tovar!
took him last semester, got accused of cheating like other reviews above. He gives no information in his 8 minute lectures. I am now taking it this semester with another nutrition teacher and 5 of the 8 students in the class had previously taken professor tovar and failed but all are doing great now. I would just avoid him all together.
I loved taking this class! Professor Tovar really cares about his students and makes sure they have all the information to do good on the exams. If you listen to the lecture videos and take notes, you will do fine in this class. He literally says everything in his lecture videos that's on the exams, you just have to pay attention and study.
Professor Tovar is quite honestly the worst professor I have ever taken, his lectures give little to no information so be prepared to teach yourself. I had a friend that took his in-person class and she said he gives them most of the answers and she did not learn much. He should not be teaching this class.
I have no words. It won't matter how hard you study, you will seem to never be prepared for the exams...which makes up 60% of your grade. No busy work, no weekly assignments, just quizzes and tests. There's no practice tests, or study guides. You can't even go back to look at your previous quizzes to study...Waste of money, time, and will hurt GPA.
I loved this professor, he is very caring of his students and wants you to learn well. At the beginning of the class I was struggling a lot but then I began being in touch with the professor and he gave me feedback on what I was doing wrong which taught me proper study mechanisms for the class. It consists of a lot of memorization and applying.
Professor Tovar is awesome! He is hilarious, kind, and always willing to help his students. The exams are the bulk of your grade so you do have to study a lot, but if you study hard you will make an A. He has lecture videos on canvas so you can go back and listen to the material as much as you need to. Take him!
Professor Tovar is an amazing professor and I'd recommend him to any of my friends! The unit exams do count for a lot, so make sure you study for those. I'd also recommend taking his class in-person because he goes more in-depth into the concepts that are mentioned in his lecture videos. Overall, Tovar is a cool professor, so take it with him! :)
It is a demanding course, but Professor Tovar is communicative and knowledgeable, has interesting lectures, and wants the best for all students. Textbook was not as useful as lectures. Case studies help you understand content better. I worked hard for my grade, but learned a lot! A lot of other comments are negative, but that was not my experience.
He is the laziest professor I have had so far. His exams are usually over four units (ex. carbs, lipids, protein, alcohol) but the only resources he gives are a single, 10-15min video over the BASICS of each topic. The rest is up to you to piece together and learn by yourself. It's crazy to me that he has a 3.5 overall. Would not recommend him.
Overall, Tovar is a great person. I recommend for any student to take his in-person course. He gives a lot more information on what will be on the test. The final was super easy, and is worth a lot of points. His tests are somewhat difficult. There are usually four chapters within one unit test.
Tovar is tough if you don't work with his teaching style. He is a super nice guy and does want what is best for you, but with that being said, the tests are hard and application based. Very heavy on memorization. You have to attend class to pass the class.
Took him last summer 2023, he's the most laziest professor. His exams are 60% of your grade. Lectures are only couple years old video with background music that's very distracting. You have to do 3 cases study research paper and 4 exams that set you up to fail. Do not take him!!!!!
Took him at UF: Tovar is a good lecture, his class is mostly discussions and the way he teaches makes you think the exams will be easy. Exams are worth 200 points and every other assignment is barely worth anything and the questions are incredibly subjective. Pre-curve average of a 54 on exam 1 because the questions were unclear and misleading.
Very mixed feelings about this prof. Lectures were great and easy to understand and weekly quizzes were based on short 5-30 minute videos. However, when it was time for exam 1, the questions were worded strangely and his grading criteria can be extremely unclear. Most major assignments are based on a group project.
