He doesn't use the book at all. NEVER MISS A LECTURE if you want to do well!
Very thorough, hard instructor, great personality
Study like you've never studied before. Fun guy
Good teacher and keeps you interested in class. But DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS if you dont like to study. His tests are extremely hard
Fabulous teacher, great info in the course. Hard tests, but straight forward from the notes & lab.
Very boring subject, NEVER buy the book it's a waste of money, take really good notes - you'll need them
Strange personality, talks a lot, and refers little to the textbook.
Says one thing but does another.
DO NOT buy the book. Test directly from notes. Lab Practicals are nearly impossible listen to the hints he gives you. Fun personality.
Great teacher, he knows his stuff and presents it very well, however, his tests are killers.
Pretends to be nice, but is a rude blowhard.
He is very good teacher and his tests aren't too horribly hard. You do have to study. But he does give a lot of info in one class period.
don't need book ($150 saved), test from notes... what else does a college student want? tests are hard, don't know about final, since i took during spring semester (recommended)
What a jerk!!
I was suprised when I got an A. His tests aren't hard if you study a couple hours. You won't need the book since everything comes from the notes, but alot of people read thru the book while he did lecture. You will take lots of notes!
Tests try to trick you rather than find out if you've learned anything. Lab practicals are ridiculously difficult for a 100 level course. Tells you what you need to know after you've taken the test. Sorry no way to avoid him.
Very thorough
Difficult and prides himself on this. Hard to get to know, puts up a cold front. Tests are difficult. Got an A but I worked hard and got old tests. Try to get old tests--key for an A. Don't buy the book!!!!
Good Prof. He truly helps those who are interested and want to be helped but can see right through those who are just trying to suck up. Excellent person, all around---awesome!!!!
a big bag of wind. not nice
lots of notes to take in class, but the exams are straight from them! must be willing to make an effort in his classes. he curves your grade well at the end of the semester. all around nice guy, awesome prof.
In this class for 1 day/week, dropped. He was ok in lab, but then in lecture, took pride about having tricky questions.Gives lab "Practicals" not exams (2 min limit per set up and you can't come back to a station,4 pts ea). If you absolutly HAVE TO take this class then go ahead, but if not AVOID!
Really hard tests and very unwilling to help students. Avoid!
The tests were very very hard but he curved the grades so much that I went from a C/D to an A at the end of the semester. Dont buy the book, never opened it once.
Yea about this guy.....Pretty much a jerk and you spend the whole lecture taking notes that have nothing to do with test questions. The tests are hard and there even multiple choice! Hes great in lab but sucks in lecture! Dont buy the book I didn't even open it once!
Very good teacher but tough. Enthusiastic
Very tough class. His tests are very tricky. He is a very nice guy and keeps you interested with good side stories that help clarify. His tests are hard, but they are curved. He does not give +/- so it is straight letter grade. Even though he was hard I would gladdly take him again. Great guy!!
much more lively than he used to be! he is not as curmudgonely and ornery now that he has gotten older, mellowed with age! all around good guy!
Dr. Trdan was very helpful in furthering my understanding of Zoology. His class was very challenging but presented in a way that made the class more enjoyable, and faciliated learning. Excellent instructor would recommend to all. -Jason Zielinski
Very difficult for a 100 level class. Be prepared for constant writing during the lectures. Test questions were multiple choice and true/false, but they were quite tricky (he really seemed to get a thrill from this!) I learned a lot in his class, though to get a good grade I had to study A TON (more than any class in my first B.A.)

Very VERY unclear, I know lots of people who have had to drop or others who got stuck with a bad grade. First test class average 68, second test class average in the 50's...if you don't already know the stuff stick to another teacher.
GREAT teacher!! He keeps you awake in the morning and loves his job. Teaches straight from the book so its your fault if you get a bad grade. Curves alot and really well. How's an 18 point curve sound?
This is not a class that i would take if you want an easy A. But i learned a lot and he curves the grades for every test. the labs are great and the lectures, though they are long are interesting. He lets you out early occasionaly and is very helpful in and outside the class.
Ok, I have no idea what these people are talking about. Yes, he is very enthuastic w/ lectures but nothing he talks about is on the exam. Even with a curve, they are impossible!! AVOID. Three exams is ALL you get for a grade, there is no other work.
I have had trdan for 7 classes including 3 independant studies, bio 105, zoology, developmental, and invertebrate. He loves his job more than any professor I know. He expects you to pay attention but this is college, so..you can't just skip class or come in half awake. If you want to learn a lot, and be interested in Biology, take Trdan.
what ru people talking about! He talks in circles and his notes are everywhere! His exams are SO hard! All I needed was a Bio...If this is not your major do not take!!! He thinks we r all 300 level students!
THIS GUY ID DUMB! I hated this class! All he could talk about was planeria, and phylum this and that.NONE OF IT was on the exams. Good luck to any one who just needs this for Gen.ED.He is dense and impossible! Horrible!
He talks quickly and hates answering questions. When i would ask him one he treated me as if I was stupid. But he curves big time. You gotta work hard, and go to class everytime. He doesn't use the book at all!
I had Dr. Trdan for Zoo, Invert, Parasit, Developmental and 3 independent studies. He is the best prof I've ever had. He listens, answers questions and is readily available. His lectures are enthusiastic and tests come straight from there. If you think he's hard, you're right - but this IS college, you're not in grade school anymore.
Great class and a great teacher. As this is a college class, he expects his students to act like adults. His tests are hard, but all you need to do is study, ask questions, and look over your notes and you will do fine. His lectures are really fun, but lab is a B***H. That was the hardest part. Spend the time and you will do fine.
Trdan is a pretty cool who loves his "beasts", which he calls everything from a hydra to a clam. His developmental lab is very easy and you don't cover much, just three short papers. His lecture is always just straight from the notes. Study for 2 to 3 hours before the test and you're good. He'll talk to you about anything, very approachable.
Really great Prof. His exams are straight from the notes, however I always find that I study the wrong stuff. As far as I know he's the only one that teaches zoo. and dev. so just be ready to study your butt off!
Trdan is the man. Lectures straight from the notes. His Devolpmental Exams are tough but put the time in and it's not too bad.
Very hard class and lab is even harder. There is so much info o n each test, be ready for a lot of studying!
This course is comparable to bio courses at the University of Michigan. If you can make it here, congragulate yourself, you have a full career in front of you. He's a serious professor, knows his material extremely well, and drop your high school antics if you wish to communicate with him.
Awesome
He's the only one that teaches this class, so you going to have to suck it up. It's hard and you have to study your notes word for word. Some people actually do well, I am not one of them. I do however feel that he gets way too much enjoyment from tricking his students on the exams.
What can I say it doesn't get much better than this. He is probably one of the best instructors at the university. He only cares if you care. If you try he'll try to help you. Very approachable, and the subject is easy. Doesn't hold your hand if you fail he'll let you. The book sucks don't buy it you'll never open it even if you're a BIO major.
good luck
Wow! Very enthusiastic and knowledgeable professor. NOT an easy class. I have a 4.0 gpa and study like crazy and this class is kicking my butt. He is great at answering questions, but I really felt that a lot of the information that was covered on the exams was unclear. I do not like the tricky questions. Do not take as a summer course!
Awesome
I had him for zoology twice and Developemental! The first time I didn't really take notes other than what he wrote on the board -not good enough. the 2nd time I knew what i was doing! I think he is one of the best profs now and he is really fun!
He puts a lot of sneaky questions on the tests. Watch out for those. You should definately take notes and pay attention. If not your out of luck. The class was not that bad. I would only recommend it to students who are willing to work.
Lab is mandatory, and you only get one absence. Sneaky tests!! Dont waste your money buying the book, tests come from his lecutres. Uses the same notes every year.
Prides himself on being tricky on tests, then gets mad when everyone fails the test. You must have a good understanding of Biology to take this class with him or else. Tests are on Mondays, study all weekend for them, you'll need it. Very passionate about biology though, esp. zoology. Labs are easier than lecture.
EXTREMELY Hard and Demanding. Do not take unless you are seriously interested and dedicated to Biology. Test questions are very tricky!!! But, if you are going to become a biologist, this is the guy to take because you are forced to learn a LOT!
I had him for both Zoology and Developmental and he was not bad at all. His tests are always straight from your notes, so as long as you come to class, pay attention and study for exams you should do fine. You get out of it what you put in it. He makes the classes interesting also so its not hard to pay attention. Never buy the book though you will
He's a great instructor, but one of the hardest I've had. His tests are insane. You will need to study hard in order to get a good grade. Likes to trick you on his tests. Make sure you know your animal classifications.
He is a very good teacher and is very willing to work with you on the subject matter. He is also an interesting person to listen to.
He's not easy, but he's fair. If you deserve an A, you'll get one. If not, you won't. Plain and simple. He'll make you work for your grade, but it's all worth it. Easily the best prof in the dept. I learned more in the 3 classes with him than probably all my others combined.
The best
horrible prof. i'll never take him again.
Lectures are boring he writes all the notes on the board making it easy to take notes but what i found was what notes he had us take didn't seem to be anywhere on the tests, i found when i did the tests i was a little lost. Grades on curves and is reasonable too drop your worse exam. Final isn't accumulative. Also Labs are VERY boring
if you study hard and take good notes, you get at least a B especially since he curves each test. He's a very fair grader. Also, lab book is useful but DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK...you will not use it at all
Fair grader, dont buy the text book you will never open it. Passionate about what he teaches
Very good teacher. Tests are hard. Very hard. But they are curved which helps. Just make sure you don't try and cheat because he will go off on you really badly. Saw it happen. Eek. Recommend.
Requires a ridiculous amount of studying for a 111 class. Requires a ridiculous amount even if it were a 300 level class. Passionate, but expects far too much interest from students in the trivial, meaningless details for zoology that you spend late nights studying only to not ever need them the rest of your life. Far too indepth for 100 level.
The first day of class he informs you that the majority of his class will fail. His test are very hard and the labs are very involved.Be prepared to spend lots of extra time in labs to pass. Do not buy text never use it, just notes. Good luck because he is the only teacher of this class at SVSU
I've had him in a couple classes and he's not as bad as most people say, not mean at all; he's funny. But it's NOT easy - this harder than you might think but you get used to it. Don't get the book unless you struggle with Bio classes and TAKE GOOD NOTES He's enthusiastic about teaching - just wait until you hear about his frog stories...
DO NOT TAKE!!! Gives the hardest and trickiest tests I have ever taken. All questions have either a none of the above, all of the above or 2 of the above. From what I can tell not many people do well, but is not willing to find and fix the problem, no matter what end it may be on.
Do NOT take. Tests are multiple multiple choice.. ex. D) is it A and B, E) is it A,B,C. Very unfair grader. He will curve who approaches him the most and goes to his office. Most of the class fails his tests, but he does curve. Old tests would be very helpful. You can drop 1 test, but honestly it doesn't help !!!DO NOT TAKE!!!
Do not take him. Avoid if at all possible. He has four lecture tests and two lab tests. Very tricky in his questioning. Will do things like two of the above, none of the above, etc. for test questions. When class average is bad on test he tries to blame it on us not studying when it is HIM who doesn't know how to teach well!
Dr. Trdan really knows his stuff and is quite passionate about this stuff (esp. mussels). Sure, this class wasn't that easy, but I really learned a lot, even during the summer semester(which is when I took it). People need to learn to stop whining so much and maybe study their planaria cross-sections a little more.
A great teacher for Biology Majors, Rich makes you student and makes you perform at a level that lets you learn. He's tough, but thats a good thing is you want this for your Major. If this is your one and only science class go somewhere else... You'll not enjoy the experience.
terrible
Extremely difficult class if you have it in conjuction with another upper level science. Requires a lot of dedication to studying but very interesting topic none the less. He is VERY knowledgable and willing to help if you ask!
This class was extremely difficult in that there was a lot of information that you needed to know. The prof isn't that bad.. he usually ends up dropping a test grade, which is all your grade is based off of. YOU NEED TO STUDY TO PASS THIS CLASS! DON'T BUY THE BOOK!
VERY HARD!! Questions on the tests were confusing and frustrating. Pay attention to details in the notes and study the diagrams even though they won't be on the test themselves, there will be questions on them. Don't buy the book you don't use it.
Dr. Trdan is my favorite professor at SVSU. The classes he teaches has a lot of difficult information but he is extremely helpful. He even helped me in a class he doesn't teach spending over an hour with me. He grades on a curve and dont buy the text.
I would NEVER recomend Tradan to ANYONE. He's an upper level bio professor, so the fact that he's teaching a Gen Ed. class sucks. He's the hardest bio teacher at SVSU and I don't think that he teachs well at all.
Horrible professor. You are graded on four exams and that's it. He says, "This will be on the exam" and then it won't be at all. Do not buy the book. He knows his stuff but doesn't teach at a level anyone but himself and the Bio majors can understand. Avoid him!
Hard professor. attendance is not mandatory but to understand the material, you need to be there. Not the best class to take at 8am. The exams are hard but he is very helpful. If your foggy on something I recommend getting that cleared up before the exam. The second exam is the worst! SVSU Bio dept. even cailmed trdan as the hardest on in the dept.
Dr. Trdan is one of the nicest professors of biology at SVSU - his classes are hard, but if you study you get the grade! ALWAYS willing to help.
Best biology professor at SVSU! Curves huge on tests
Dr. Trdan is fabulous. He's funny, absolutely brilliant and truly loves what he's teaching. You have to study, but that should be the case in an upper level biology course. I highly recommend taking his classes, not that you have a choice if you're a biology or chemistry major at SVSU.
For being a 111 intro class this is brutal (used to be 211 and he still teaches like it). Tests are extremely hard and he doesn't put any of the main things discussed on them, just the things he mentions. He isn't clear on what you have to know so 12 hours of studying will get you a B on a test at best. Avoid 111B and Trdan if possible.
Worst professor ever. For a 111 class.. good luck if you have other classes or a job. He is by far one of the most arrogent people I have ever met. NO WAY will I EVER take him for a class again, Id go to Delta and take the class instead. HUGE JERK!!!!!!
Oh Trdan. Seems to favor females, especially the prettier ones. If you have to ask questions he's in his office.. sometimes. I pulled an A in this class only because I never missed a class and rewrote my notes several times. Tests are a beast and theres 6, 2 labs and 4 lecture, so good luck. Take good notes and study hard from them you'll do fine.
Trdan is one of the best professors at SVSU. His classes are not easy...don't expect that...but you can learn so much from him and his classes if you put in the effort. He is always willing to help. Truly loves his job. Has such a passion for science. Great guy and awesome professor. I take him for everything I possibly can. Highly recommend.
Lectures aren't too bad but the test are pretty tough. Study hard!
Good teacher, but do not expect it to be easy. He teaches the material very well even though there is a lot of it. If you take good notes and attend every class and put in the study time you will pass this class no problem. His tests do have "multiple multiple choice" so make sure you read every question well.
I loved this class but it is definitely not a breeze. Dr. Trdan is a funny guy. Tests are tricky but curved. Study hard, if you go to class and take good notes you'll do fine. (Also, take advantage of open lab study times for models/scopes)
Dr. Trdan is a very tricky man. His tests are very ambiguous. He is known to curve alot, however my class only had one test curve. There is supposed to be a 3% boost at the end. Good guy but pretty tricky tests.
Trdan is a great guy! very helpful. tests are hard, questions are sometimes a bit ridiculous. But he always curves the grade. Yeah, you've gotta study, but if you need help with anything, he's there. Very interested in what he teaches, hes a funny guy.
Trdan is my buddy. He is so fun, easy going, and loves visitors. Very helpful, if you truly need it, but his exams are KILLER. You will NOT pass if you don't study. But we still love him. Best guy on campus. Doing research with him is also fantastic. (He always buys ice cream!) All around great man. If you're a lazy student, you won't like him.
Trdan is a great professor! Knows his zoology and loves teaching it. More than willing to help anybody. Tests are really hard if you don't study. If you study a lot you will do fine.
One of the best biology professors at SVSU! Trdan really knows his stuff and is a great professor and mentor figure if you are going into a biology career. Tests are challenging, but fair and he curves. Take pictures in lab, study, and know your stuff you should be fine. Zoology was one of my favorite classes and I had no problem getting an A.
Attendance mandatory if you want to pass! Tests can be tricky, but not if you understand the material. CURVES A LOT, which is AWESOME, and even drops a test (usually). If you work hard, you'll achieve at least a B! Good luck!
Very good professor. Best I have had in the science department at SVSU. Lab is very informative but goes kind of fast if you're not an anatomy minded person..Got a C because I never made it to lectures..
Well overall ive noticed that most of the stuff on the tests isn't ever talked about in lecture and he tries to trick you with all of the above, none of the above, and A and B only type answers on every single question. The last test was extremely unfair. This is coming from a person who has taken multiple biology classes and has done great in all.
I came to check on Trdan after finding I had a profile on here, too. Although he is pretty demanding and his classes challenging, he loves what he does. By far one of the best professors and mentors I have ever had. I've adopted a lot of his style and technique because of how well it worked for me. Definitely prepared me for a career in science.
Dr.Trdan is very passionate and charismatic in what he teaches. With passion, he teaches the course topics really well, but his exams are very tough. Just take lots of notes from all the lectures and study very hard. Overall, really great professor
Dr. Trdan is a awesome guy and I loved his lectures. However, his tests are made waaaay to hard for any one person. Unless you know every phylum, order, class, and their characteristics you will not do well on his tests. He curves the tests but not enough. I would not recommend to first year students.
Dr. Trdan is a great professor. Very enthusiastic and funny. Attendance is manditory only because you need his notes to survive the course and they are only available during lecture. Tests are very hard. He does curve. Lab practical is also very difficult. Study hard but unless you've memorized everything expect a hard time.
Zoology with Mr. Trdan was a very difficult class. I am an all A student who scored a 28 on the ACT in high school and I worked my butt off for a B. His tests are confusing with badly worded questions, some of which I swear we didn't cover in class. However, what he does do well is provide large curves "at least 10 pts" and lectures well"not dull"
Trdan is my FAVORITE teacher! Class is VERY tough, you will need to study hard. Each test is curved. For Zoo study hard for the lab and it will bring your lecture grade up. My first lab exam had a 20 point curve (brought my test up to a 110%) and kept me at an A in the class. Lecture tests are hard: know the material inside and out.
Trdan was great in class. I had an 8am class but didn't mind it because he kept you interested. He curved every test, however, I still ended up with a B. I studied more than anyone else I talked to and I had a 4.0GPA before this class. I think his tests had more information than what we learned in class.
This was a pretty tough class. Trdan is a good professor and knows a lot about the material. You need to take notes and practically know everything for exams. Even then some questions will be random or will be from the last test or material which you have not covered.
