I am taking a Business Law class with professor Uchida. Law is alway hard to understand, but he explains very well which is easier to learn. The tests are mc base. We have homework for every class. He is very nice. If you need legal advise, you can ask him, he is happy to help you out.
Professor Uchida is hilarious. Some people take him way too seriously and gets mad at him for stupid reasons. He is helpful, clear, and makes learning fun. I learned a lot from his class.
Good Teacher. Explains everything well.
Great teacher. Even if he doesn't like you as a person (which was my case) - you will still get an "A" if you work hard enough. Hey, I am pretty lazy, so you can count on my conclusion that he is a good teacher, not easy, but doable. Good material and awesome lectures.
My only problem with the class is that English is my second language) But Mr.Uchida is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He's fun, and he explains everything in such a way that you remember all he's talking about. You have to read a lot,and do the homework all the time. But u enjoy the process, trust me!
If you ask questions in class be prepared to have the question possibly "made fun of". I don't ask him anymore, I ask other students. On first day, he gives book he made specifically for the class-has EVERYTHING you need. No tests; just midterm, final and homework. No attendance requmts, but you'll miss lots if you skip. Good teacher-i like him.
He does start picking on you once he finds out your name and some more information about you. He does try his best to explain the concepts and his HW can be a little tricky. But that does help with the exam.
Very good teacher. Not very interesting, but he does his best. Annoying because class kept getting off subject, would talk entire lecture about a problem someone had at work. Begin of every class he gives you a packet for the day, VERY HELPFUL!! Doesn't use book. Very fair with grades, HARD tests, attend not required but need to go to get materia
Arrogant, dishonest, smug and dismissive. From making comments on the classes perceived level of intelligence to his overriding need to correct people on the most insignificant matters, he is the worst teacher I have ever had. Watch out for him introducing issues and situations that are not contained within the questions to one up you.
Professor Uchida is one of the finest instructors I have ever encountered. I feel privileged to have been in his class and, would take any other class that he taught without hesitation. He is a bright, engaging, caring funny man. My experience in Commercial Law was excellent.
This professor has destroyed my interest in commercial law. He uses the Socratic method, so you should beware if you're not good at reasoning verbally and public speaking. I highly recommend remaining silent throughout the semester unless you want to get humiliated every session. However, the class material & lectures are good, just not him.
SMUG AND DISMISSIVE is a great words to describe him. Don't waste your time to take this class. All you learn is "how to lie". Very sad! He actually is quite dum but tried very hard to be intelligent - very funny.
He is a funny teacher. He gives a lot of examples that make the law concept little bit easy to understand. you can expect to have homework every week. Only midterm and final. My suggestion is to drop down the examples he gives in class. He also speaks clearly. good for ESL students.
Professor Uchia is very knowledgeable and funny. His tests are hard but it is doable if you actually studied and understood the material. I loved this class because his humors made the class interesting and fun!!! Time seems to fly by in his class. I would totally recommend to any1 who is in business major to take him. You won't regret it..:)
The class is totally USELESS. He is bias on grading, he gives high grades to girls ? that tell you what kind of person he is. His humor is fake, he is not being real ? trust me!!! Yes, he is arrogant, liar, smug and dismissive. Dont take his class unless you have to.
He wants you to do your homework and if you do, you should do well. If you just want to get by and not learn, do not take this class. He is for adults who want to learn and not some fool who wants to take up space.
I have almost completed my associate at CCSF, majoring in accounting. Mr.Uchida was my Commercial Law instructor several semesters ago. So far he was the best professor I had at CCSF. Extremely knowledgeable, helpful, understanding, with a very sarcastic sense of humor. A fantastically interesting man.
He makes law easy to understand. Very funny and provides easy to follow notes in class. He's also very responsive to students. The class is challenging but very enjoyable. Oh yeah, he also gave us free donuts.
I totally agreeded. All of these years he still hasn't change. Still Fake, humor sucks, arrogant, liar, smug and dismissive. Still buys donuts to rebuilt his bad images. PLEASE TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY, don't let this teacher fool you.
I saw how he treated a colleague (a female professor) the other day, and it was disrespectful and obscene. He should not be teaching, and will be reported to the administration. Our educational system is corrupt because of his arrogance.
He isn't an easy teacher (not easy to pass class). The exams and assignment are tricky and are based on the weekly assignments and lecture. He grades on a curve. He's intimidating in class and plays favorites. He provides a study guide for the book and hands out weekly lecture notes. Personally, the lecture notes. He response to e-mail.
I took this class a while back and enjoyed, biased not. Although I got pointed out for my reasoning most of the time. It did not stop me from continuing to raise my hand to answer, eventually I walked out with a B worked very hard but loved the class. Plus most of the girls in my class didn't do so well. So the comment about favorites yeah. NOT!
exams are hard and tricky
Very arrogant and disrespectful. Makes fun on students if they try to answer his question. His explanations are unclear and he doesn't respond to emails.
Excellent instructor.Knows his law, explanations clear and concise.Gives out a summary of the chapters the first day of class. Doesn't waste time on nonsense. One of the best professors I've had.Homework cases pertain to subject manner and he goes over the answers in class. Midterm and final were fair. Tricky, but fair. Understand English language.
I took the class online, got a C on the midterm. I asked if I could attend the live class to try to up my grade. He replied with an ESSAY about his experience w/students "like me" & his generalization that I won't be able to change my grade, I just have to accept it. BTW, the median grade for the midterm was 68%, the highest grade earned was 90%.
Professor Uchida was an awesome teacher that he explained things very clearly and easy to understand. He was flexible on turning in work which I have not seen many teachers would have that kind of flexibility toward students. I'm so glad that I took his class and really learned a lot.
Arrogant. Rigid. Talks to us like we are middle schoolers. Shows little empathy for DSPS students. AVOID.
He's my favorite teacher! One of the best I've ever had! He genuinely cares about his students. He's very patient and explains things well. Plus he gives handouts with all we need to know. Learned a lot. Wish he taught more classes. Definitely recommend! If more teachers were like him this awful school would be a lot better.
His homework and lectures are challenging. He welcomes questions for clarification during and after class. He does accommodate DSPS students.
If you can, do not take Online class; as long as you attend classes and take good notes, this class wont be difficult. He may come as being "arrogant" to few students, but come on, you are there to LEARN. Study using his notes, listen to his examples in classes, TRULY UNDERSTAND the law concepts - and you'll be fine on the exams.
I would recommend NOT taking his course online. Arrogant and argumentative.
Professor is knowledgeable, cocky, and impatient.I barely read the book but the notes he post to study. Homework and exams are super tricky, make sure u pay attention to details, bcuz this is a law class.u should be fine if you study hard n memorize all the terms. i passed with an C,which is good enough for non-letter grade transfer.
He is one of the best professor. Very clear and attentive.
He is clearly knowledgeable of the subject but his expectations are too high. The class is very difficult if not impossible to pass. The assigmnents take hours to complete and unless every single point is correct or what he wants you get no points He is also very selective about which questions he answers from whom
Impatient with older adults returning to school. Doesn't like to be interrupted from his lectures to answer questions.
he has made me hate law. i have spoken to everyone in the class and no one enjoys it! it is impossible to pass, even when you come every lecture, do all of the reading, and attempt all assignments. he treats everyone in there as though we all work in the legal field already. he is also the most smug, arrogant, and incompetent person ever
His class has nothing to do with preparation for the CPA exam. I can tell you that he wastes your time with trivial nonsense. Better to take the class at state where they teach you real business law.
I am taking his online class for Business Law. Since he is the only teacher that teaches this course I have no other option but to take him. He says that he will respond to emails, but he doesn't. His homework assignments are super confusing since the material is tough. A lot, a lot of reading. Discouraging teacher.
I was really excited to take Business Law because it seemed really interesting. However, taking this class made me stress out so much. Professor Uchida has very high expectations in the class and on homework. Especially online, hardest class I have ever taken. Too bad he is the only teacher who teaches this class, had no choice but to take him.
Most difficult class I have ever taken. Your grade is mostly from the midterm and final. Keep in mind for these tests he expects you to know about 10 chapters. His questions on homework and tests are super confusing. He is a tricky teacher. Basically told the class if we don't get a C on the midterm, we already didn't pass the class.
Law classes are never easy! It's not the teacher's fault. To be fair, he's a good teacher. Funny, smart, has strong logical thinking, sense of humor, a little arrogant. Gives lots of examples in lectures to help us understand concepts and terms. It works. Get ready to work harder! Read classnotes and book! Turn in homework on time!
He is the bad professor that I ever had at CCSF. He never tolerate and always say"NO" to students when he asking question. He expect students answer his question correctly, if no, don't raise hand and try to guess the answer. He just say your are wasting the time. I mean if we know the correct answer then what is the point to taking his class?
I have to say he's hard grader with no extra credit. lectures are amazing, but the homework is hard based on the feedback of my classmates. Tests are heavily based on the textbook, you do have to spend time to read the textbook. Make sure you have good scores on every tests, because it's very easy to get a bad grade.
Doesn't make anything really clear, he makes you feel as if you're not studying or trying.
His class should be mandatory! He is an amazing teacher and if you spent time reading, you will surprise how much you will enjoy this class. He is VERY CLEAR and tells you what you need to do to get an A, the rest is up to YOU. Honestly, nothing impossible! He is brilliant and a very nice person too. Won´t get bored, Best teacher EVER!!
He's a great professor! Calm, funny, and gives you financial life advice lol. You need to be present for class to understand the concepts though. He gives study guides and explains the material very thoroughly so if you pay attention you should do well! The stuff you learn is actually relevant and interesting.
This professor expects way too much from his homework problems. Getting the question right isn't enough to get points. You're gonna need to regurgitate essay length responses from the convoluted text in order to satisfy his obscene requirements to get any credit whatsoever. If you can take another professor for business law, by all means do so.
I would say the class is pretty clear but may be difficult if English is your first language. One word can completely change a question or answer in this class so be mindful of this and precise. There are times where he pokes fun at students during class participation who dont give thorough responses. I believe it to be unprofessional at times.
Mr. Uchida is one of the best caringofessional instructors at CCSF. Students have to be prepared for this class because BL is not an easy subject. A lot of new terminology and concepts that we need grasp and use in tons of case studies. Prepare yourself to study hard and do weekly HWs. Email the Instructor for help if needed. He always replies.
I am not one to normally come onto this site and rate my professors but with Mr. Uchida, I want to give fair warning to all. Very strict and unwavering, with a point system that is so unbalanced you are doomed from the get go. One weekly assignment worth 3 points that even he admits most students average 1 point on. 1 point, as in failing. 33%.
I do not usually write reviews on professors, but I had to write for this guy. Uchida is very immature and unprofessional. He just cannot stand opposing views and fights his way until he can make it look like he was right. You should be fine in his class as long as you kiss his ass; pretend that you think he is smart even though he is not...
There is nothing to make up for the loss of lecture. Online students have the same standard as lecture students. I structured my answers based on the original law but not the textbook, and I have quoted and rephrased the original in the context of the homework. Then I was accused of plagiarism because apparently the textbook authors did so as well.
One can't just put all the lecture materials online and expected students to get the same results as if online students are in lecture classes, especially the same materials can be accessed by lecture class students as well. Yet somehow online class students are held with the same standard with lecture class students.
CCSF Powers that be. Please try to find someone besides Mr. Uchida to teach this class. It was an awful experience. He is the least collaborative and positive professor I've ever encountered (and I have a four year degree from a legit university). Was just trying to see if taking the LSAT and pursuing law makes sense at this point in my life.
Prof Uchida is the worst online teacher I have ever experienced. He starts the class by telling everyone how many students usually fail. If it was a few lazy students who failed then I wouldn't blame him but if you expect 50% to fail then something is wrong with your curriculum. I dropped the first week and took the class at college of marin
DO NOT GO TO HIS CLASS. IT WAS A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. HE HAS NO RESPECT.
I truly enjoyed Mr Uchidas class and learned a lot about business law. His lessons are very well structured and the professor is clear and precise on what needs to be done. I benefited a lot from reading about criminal and corporate law, and I am glad I took this class. Overall, I had a great experience with Mr Uchida and his online lectures.
Professor Uchida will make you reconsider college. His class is HARD, not because of the material but because he makes it impossible to pass. This is supposed to be Business Law 1, yet it feels like you're in LAW school at Harvard. Don't take the class at CCSF, just avoid it and go to another community college. I got 3 A's and a D, my first D ever
Professor Uchida the best ever teacher I had. I truly enjoyed the class. And I learned a lot about business law . Im glad I took this class. I had a great experience with Mr Uchida .
I worked in Administration. Uchida has the highest dropout and failure rate of all other teachers at City College for several years now. I am a 4.0 student and he was so non-responsive and unorganized. He also isn't proactive to help you.
I took Uchida a few years ago for Bus Law 1. I am a second year law student now and I sometimes refer to the outlines he posted for contracts and torts. Being a law student now, I am glad I was exposed to this material. People that are complaining that he is too difficult should NOT go to law school.
I took his Business Law I online course. Assignments are content heavy and require a lot of thought to receive full credit. No late work is accepted. Very engaging, often has discussion boards for students to discuss law or answer general questions about the homework. Overall grade is comprised of homework and the midterm and final.
This class is hard, words that you know the meaning of will turn against you such as the meaning of consideration. It may seem likes he's being a pain, but it's really the content. He's always on time and quick to respond. Just understand YOU WILL BE STUCK READING. This class has made me a better student and a more articulate individual.
Teachers are supposed to be helpful and guide you. This teacher does not care about any of your concerns and does not provide any helpful feedback.
work for what you want.
THE WORST, he makes fun of people who answer questions wrong and will FIGHT you, don't even speak in class because he's just gonna roast the heck out of you! his quizzes are super detailed and his lectures are boring and everything about this class sucked (: some prob have to take him for GE so HAHA goodluck (:
WORSE PROFESSOR EVER! Don't even think about taking his class! Basically you have to learn on your own. He doesn't help you or whatever. Really strict on hw grading such as the wordings have to be the same exact wordings he has in mind. If not, he will minus you points off. Grades are mostly based of hw and exams.
Professor Uchida unfortunately is the only one teaching Business Law 1. He is extremely tough and does not even give you a point for your assignment unless you use the correct wording that he has in mind. Even if your answer is close, but the wording isn't what he's looking for he'll give you a 0 on the assignment. It's either right or wrong w/him.
Want to actually pass this class? Take his in-person course, as opposed to online. My friend who has took this course, twice, revealed to me that he's more lenient on those that participates during his lecture. Major portion of your grade is based on the mid-term and final, homework makes up the other 40% BUT he's a known stickler for accuracy.
Was scared to take him bc of his ratings but I liked him! Lectures are interesting and there's lots of participation (not graded) to stick the material. He's funny to me but some can see him as mean. There are weekly short quiz (no big test). Hw/quiz may be hard at first but I learned how to think critically. Write based on JUST the facts given.
yeah, no
Zero accountability, no support material, rarely finishes a reply, provides zero individualized feedback. The online course is sloppy and confusing, mired in carelessness and incompetence. I changed majors just to have to avoid taking this course. His rude and anal retentive remarks show that he's getting off on failing you. Avoid at all costs.
Everything bad written about him is true. He's also the only BSL prof in the college, thus unavoidable for Business Major. To survive: 0. Read each chapter twice. 1. Score every point (HW worth 4-6 pts on average, and exams: 50pts.) 2. Answer questions very detailed (not less than 1 page). 3. Ask about ambiguities: he answers to emails.
Everything said about this man is true. His canvas page is confusing, unorganized, and sloppy. He's an extremely tough grader, and his carelessness for the course and his students is shocking. He doesn't give any feedback as to why you got the grade you did, and doesn't help you grow as a student. To all CCSF business majors, I'm so sorry.
He grades really hard and wants you to be really specific in the homework. I am a 4.0 student, but taking his class my grade has been floating around the D or C. If you need to take Business Law 1 I recommend taking it somewhere else. I am always asking for help and he does not even want to help the students.
He expects the professional answer too much from students in a Level 1 Business class.
I don't understand the harshness of his grading scale, or why he's such a difficult grader. He's a terrible teacher, and treats his students as if they've been practicing law for years and years. It's getting to the point where it feels like he nitpicks submitted work specifically to fail you. Don't take him if you don't have to. srry business mjrs
Dont choose this teacher. You wont learn any knowledge in his course. He asks students to write something that cannot be repeated, but he never guides them on anything. When you ask him, he will not necessarily reply to you. If this is not your compulsory course, don't choose his course. You will not pass.
Don't Don't Don't Don't take his class. A very poor professor. I don't know why he has been teaching for so long.
If you have a choice, dont choose his class. A very bad professor. I dont understand why he can teach for so long. Maybe its because he is the only one in the school to teach this subject. If not your major need to take it, dont choose his class. You will regret taking his class.
TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TEACHER! He makes it impossible to get good grades on his homework since you need to have his exact wording, like word for word same as his answers. He's a nitpicker, and overall bad teacher. No matter how hard you work in this class, you cannot succeed. He will not let you. When 90%of students fail, maybe the prof is the problem.
Worst professor I've ever had. Mr. Uchida is basically an absentee instructor and a pathetic example of a so-called educator. He puts in minimal effort in the online course, offers virtually no feedback whatsoever, and grades harshly. Even if you ask for feedback, he does not provide any. Go somewhere else. I'm a 4.0 student failing his class.
I get the idea of worrying that students are cheating, but he literally stated in the zoom meeting that students who: a) wander eyes b) need to take more than 10-15 sec on a question are cheating. He gives you a full 40 min to take a 40 question exam, why can't I use the full min/question without his implication that I'm stupid or cheating?
Just no. His grading is tough. He won't give you a full point unless you actually mention every single little detail he wants you to mention. If you got the majority of the details but missed one small one, you won't get the point. Tests are ok, but the hw was not it. If you can't handle a real challenge and loads of stress, don't take his class.
He's a tough grader, but he explains his answer in detail after grading. If you read his explanation, you'll learn just how thorough you need to be next time. And if you ask him questions he will answer you. So FYI, you can't get what you don't ask for. My advice; read as many chapters in advance and read his chapter notes/summary. CONTENT HEAVY
Horrible. Even if you get the homework problems correct he will still give you an F on it. He expects 1-3 page explanations per question when the question is simply, yes/no and why. He is aggressive towards his students and tries to be inspirational talking about the 10 and 1 percent all the time but just wastes time. Toxic environment.
Gives an F on the homework no matter what I do. Even when my answers are correct he expects me to explain the problem at lawyer level and refuses to give me the point. This is BSL1 yet it feels like I'm in Law School. He also Holds ZERO office hours and refuses to meet or help with homework via email just says "I won't give you the answers"
He was the only professor for BSL1 at CCSF. good luck lmao, I would recommend that you take this class somewhere else. like at skyline or csm
This is the worst professor I have ever had. He is rude and couldn't care less about his students. He makes the students uncomfortable to ask him a question because he always answers in a rude way, like we should always know everything. And, for the homework you will only get the points if you answer exactly the way he wants it.
Tips to survive: Form a study group and meet once a week. Read his chapter summaries and PowerPoints, they are easier to read sometimes than the textbook. Read the case studies and examples. Find quizlets on the chapters to practice for the exams. If given the opportunity to attend his zoom lectures, use it!! They are seriously very helpful.
Pretty tough grader . Makes you think of things that werent even mentioned on the material. Acts as if we are taking the bar exam or something and says city college has such low standards and seemingly hates teaching business law. If you dont do exactly as he says and read his mind then you wont get a lot of homeworks right. Even if it was
He is proud that his class is so hard that more than 50% of students dropped and people who stay are mainly in C and D zone. WHO does that? This characteristic may be ok for cutthroat lawyer, not a teacher. It is messed up to be happy when students are suffering. Most of us are not going to law school, just try to pass for business degree.
He likes to talk about sticking to the fact, dont make assumptions. Sure, I agree. However, when it is his turn, its ok. He will throw random stuff that are not stated in the questions into the mix. Hypocrisy at its fineness.
This "professor" is the absolute worst and it's like he is actively trying to fail all his students. His grading is horrible, and he will mark the entire answer wrong even if you get most of the points in the question but miss one miniscule detail. Note that this is an Introductory level course and he's already expecting full essays with everything
He doesn't care about his students at all, makes his students feel STUPID and POOR by talking about the top 10%, and doesn't provide any ACTUAL helpful feedback for homework. Only good thing he does is curve his grading scale after the midterm. Also, he's BANNED from practicing law, so why is he teaching it? DON'T TAKE HIM UNLESS YOU NEED TO.
He is a terrible teacher!!! If you have to take this class, He is the only BSL 1 teacher! He is super super strict in grading assignments, no matter how you answer you will not give high marks, or even give zero marks. I really hope CCSF can have one more teacher for BSL 1 class, otherwise many students will fail from his class.
PT 1. Wasn't to sure how I felt about taking his class after reading the comments here. Was the professor really as bad as everyone says? maybe those who were taking the class were just bad students, complainers, looking to blame someone else for their actions.
Worst teacher ever and morally ambiguous
BEST TEACHER
I TAKING THIS CLASS AT TWICE, I don't understand why he gave it such a low grade. Is the most rubbish teacher I have ever met in ccsf. But he is the only BLS PROFESSOR.:)
The material is fairly straightforward, but I can't stand his attitude. He intended to fail his students. I earned the most points in his class, still, I received a B in the class. Most of my classmates worked harder than me, still, failed the class. They can't move on because of this class. We need a new professor that help us to success.
Online class is tough, HW can be confusing sometimes, and the test is rough you'll need to be extra prepared in the material to get a decent grade. The class weights the exams much heavier than the homework, so even if you did good on the HW, and decent on the exam, you'll still get a lower grade at the end. Instead of C to B average, it's C to D
Uchida thinks he is being admirable by being the way he is. In his rather, odd syllabus. He embellishes a story in which he caused a student to lose his visa and subsequent ejection from the country . Never had i had the misfortune of taking such a sorry excuse for a class. Recycled material, Bad attitude. Set up for failure not learning.
He's a great guy! He assigns a lot of homework but gives accurate exam reviews. Watch The Organic Chemistry Tutor on YouTube for help. He responds quickly to emails, grades promptly, and offers tutoring sessions. I got by without much homework thanks to a calculus tutor, but it might be harder without extra support.
