Wonderful teacher - makes the topic interesting. Be sure to read the chapters before you come to class--it really helps on the quizzes.
This guy is so cool... Everyone should take him...He is willing to go out of his way to help you. He loves what he does and he knows a lot about what he teaches. He has a great personality. Take him...he is the best ever... you won't regret it.
Take him... he way too cool! very helpful and will do anything to help you pass the class. He is vert interesting and helpful, Best history professor on campus..
By far the greatest! He is extremely helpful and loves what he does. Has a wonderful personality and certainly has a way of keeping you alert those early mornings.. He's very positive and is very personable. Cutie but great instructor! Attendance and performance is important, if you don't understand he is always willing to help. I enjoyed his class
He takes his passion and knowledge of history and drives it to keep you awake and entertained. He is simple enough, but you do have to put effort into his class and attend regularly. His test come straight from the daily quizzes and notes. He doesn't leave you surprised and is very helpful. I would highly recommend him.
He has such a passion for this class and teaching, which makes taking his class fun and interesting. Be sure to take really good class notes, especially the videos they will be very helpful on the tests. If you are struggling let him know and he'll help you out. I'd highly recommend taking his class.
He is awesome-he loves what he does and it shows! I heard about this class from a friend, and I am soo happy I took the class from him. You have to study and show up for class to be successful, but it is definitely worth everything you put into it. Highly recommended!
This class was awesome! It's not easy, but that's why we're in college. He has sooo much energy-I don't know where it comes from. Grades stuff fast-u always know what ur grade is. Take this class-it's so cool!!!
I loved this class! He was SO informative and enjoyable to listen to. He uses a lot of other stuff-videos, documents. Keeps it light. I would highly recommend him! Dresses professionally too. lol
Ditto on what others said. Loved it! Not dry and boring at all. Take good notes-you can use them on quizzes. Gotta show up. Awesome class. Wish I could've taken him for 101 2.
The best teacher, energetic, fun, fair, extremely helpful. Attendance is not mandetory, but perfect attendance drops 5 of lowest grades of in class quizes. Handwritten notes get you more points. In brief, follow his instruction and an "A" grade is guaranteed.
Loved the class-made the time fly by. Agree with others-awesome teacher, and class was fun. Highly recommend him!
I can't say enough great things about this teacher-he kicks butt! Fun, informative, knows his stuff. Take it if you can-tough to get in!
Loved the class! Easy to understand. Doesn't try to make it so complicated. Fun, kept the pace going. I would definitely take another class from him.
Just finishing 101 & loved it. Take it if you can get in. Can't be lazy-have to go to class & do the docs to do good. Sarcastic, funny.
Just finishing 102 & loved it! Time flies.
Easy A, just show up with your notes, which you'll turn in at the semester's end for 135 points. Show up to every class and drop 5 of your lowest quizzes, which you'll take every class; but you'll use your notes for the quizzes. 3 exams straight from quizzes. 1paper where you locate thesis of each chapter (a book you choose) and explain it.
This may be one of the nicest, most caring teachers at MJC. Super guy, however I feel that he is a little bit overbearing. The level of nurturing that the class receives borders on Elementary. That said this is a good class for someone that needs a lot of structure and direction. He keeps it interesting though, switches between lecture and videos
I thought the class was challenging-not easy. Thought he was really helpful and fun, not simple at ALL. Thought the class kicked a..!
Best professor I had @ JC. He cares, and if you need help he is always there. Very fast @ getting back to you w/ e-mails. Definitely recommend.
VandenBosch is a wonderful professor. He truly cares about and loves what he does. Although its not the easiest class (quizzes everyday, homework always, lectures very quickly) he truly does what he can to make sure every student succeeds.
Best class I have taken so far at MJC. I am not a history buff, but he made it so interesting, and he really cares. He will help if you need it.
I so glad I read this before I signed up for some other classes. I agree with what others wrote-he was fun and sarcastic, but pushed us hard. I took 101 too-loved it.
Best professor I have ever had. My favorite at MJC. Teaches from the bottom of his heart, truly cares about his students. Enjoys what he is teaches and has an immense passion for the material. Truly has inspired me.
Loved it-definitely recommend.
Took this class last semester and LOVED it. The time flew by.
A great teacher. Quiz's at the start of each class. If you study the chapter before hand you'll have no problems. Great power points, very prepared. Only thing that sucked was the class desks, very uncomfortable for the 2+ hours of class.
I just enjoyed class every night. Very sarcastic, knows his stuff, & the time flew by. He'll help if u need it. Definitely a taker
The most helpful and encouraging instructor I have ever had!
He knows his stuff. Funny, sarcastic, and a bit of ADD. Gives points just for trying! Anti cell phone use, you will loose points. Attendance and punctuality are a must! His lectures are fun and well prepared, but you have to read the chapter ahead because he moves very fast! Overall one of the best teachers I've had! Made me like History!
I learned so much! If you try you'll do fine. Gotta be there, though
Very structured class which is great because he genuinely wants you to succeed. Read the chapter, take as many notes as you want, and do a little worksheet. Come into class take quiz (with your notes omg how easy!) and turn in wrksht and then sit thru lecture! If you attend every class, your 5 lowest quiz scores r dropped. Only hard part was brief!
Totally funny guy, he makes passing easy if you put forth effort. The only scary part was the brief and I tried and got a 78/80 even though I had no clue, he gives you credit for trying. Very structured class and he definitely marks off points for having phone out. Attendance is mandatory
Awesome professor! Can't say enough good about him or his class! I had absolutely ZERO interest in taking another history course, but he made it fascinating. Learned a lot, and I thought I already knew it all! Keep your electronics in your backpack! Overall, fantastic class and teacher! Look forward to more classes with him.
I LOVE THIS GUY!!! He cares about his students very much. I would take every class with him if I could.
Friend told me about the class, and I really do love it. Not too much lecture at once. Not sure why some people think it's hard-just do your work and you will be fine. Sarcastic humor helped make time go by quickly.
Wish they'd give him more classes. Loved it! Very helpful.
One of the best teachers at MJC. He is very interested in your success in the class. Attendance is mandatory but he will drop 5 quizzes if you come every time. Make sure you keep up on the reading and take notes every week. He sends emails every week letting you know what the quiz will be on and what's due. Very funny and makes history interesting!
Mr. VandenBosch is an excellent teacher. He tries and succeeds at making his class interesting by adding humor to his lectures every now and then. He is one of those teachers that wants his students to do their best and will do whatever he can to help. He's easy to talk to and just an email away if you need to ask a question. Take his class!
This had got to be one of the best teachers I have ever had, absolutely amazing. He really inspires you and motivates you to put forth effort and succeed in class. He really cares about his students and doesn't mind showing it. I'd recommend him to anyone.
A fantastic teacher! I took his Wed class. He knows his stuff, and connects the history with more recent events to make it interesting. Also a nice guy to talk to. I truly enjoyed his class.
One of the best teachers I've ever had! He makes history so much fun. He loves what he does and it shows. He really knows his stuff. His classes are always well prepared- never boring. He truly cares about his students. Very helpful. Attendance and punctuality are important. Read the chapter and take good notes and you will be just fine.
Professor Vandenbosch is by far the best online class i've taken. He really wants you to learn and he loves history. He's great when it comes to responding to all your questions & really quick. The workload is alot for 8 weeks, but theres no way you aren't able to pass his class with an A. As long as you don't slack off! I definitely recommend him
I just finished up the online class, and thought it was very doable. He always responded right away if I had questions, and he tried to be very encouraging. I loved it!
Great class and great professor! He wants you to pass and will help you with any questions you have. Quick responder and very helpful professor!
I took his online accelerated course with 2 others and a regular 16 week course. I had no problems getting an A in his class. Really great about responding to E-Mail and all around seems like a genuinely nice human being. Class wasn't too difficult but it was definitely a lot of work.
Professor Vandenbosch was extremely well prepared for each and every class. He shared his excitement and love of history. The syllabus was excellent and self explanatory. Teacher expectations were clear and concise. Most of all, Richard Vandenbosch truly cares about each of his students and wants them to be successful.
I loved the class-wish he taught more 102 classes so I can take him again.
He is an amazing teacher! He's really interesting. He doesn't require an expensive text book, which is nice. He just knows history off the top of his head, and teaches like he saw the events himself. He's a really kind person, and the best instructor I've had.
He loves his job and it shows. Take him.
Amazing professor. His passion for history really shows. I took his summer coarse, a lot of reading but its an easy A if you do the work. Show up to each class and just try to do the work, he grades easy. He just wants you to try. TAKE HIM if you are in need of history 101,you wont regret it.
I lv when he makes fun of addictions 2 tech. Just do the work & you'll be fine. Very funny
History has always been a very boring subject to me, but he tries to relate the content to current topics so it's funny and interesting. He really gives you a lot of guidance to be successful in his class and he's pretty attractive so that was a bonus. Lol
Richard Vandenbosch is an amazing teacher; probably one of the best I've ever had! He has a very obvious passion for his subject and he's also very funny (without actually trying, so not annoying funny). I would definitely recommend this class!
Best teacher ever! Wont say much but if you want a easy A take him
Awesome teacher. You can tell that he loves what he does, lectures are interesting. You def would need to read, and take notes. You can use notes on the weekly quiz. He takes 5 bad quiz off for perfect attendance2 if you dont. Gives Extra credit, we did do essays and had hw. Fun and doable class.
TAKE HIM! I am so thankful I took this class this last semester-loved it! I look forward to taking his 102. Awesome teacher who loves what he does.
One of the best professors that ive ever had! Truly cares for students and there grades. He takes the time to makes sure you stay on track, of course if you care enough as well. Hes so encouraging and truly an inspiration! everything he does you can tell he does with integrity. Mr. Vandenbosch is one Professor who loves what he does, it shows.
Professor Vandenbosch is the very best in his field. He enjoys teaching and it makes it more enjoyable to learn. I'm not good at memorizing but found his class to be completely doable. He's very clear about what he expects and thats very nice. You can pass the class if you show up and do the work. He's fun to listen to and keeps things moving.
I am SO happy I took this class. I work during the day and needed something to keep my attention, and he really did! He answered all my questions and emails fast, and even met with me on Saturday if I needed more help. I loved it.
He's a must!!! Easy A if you attend class, and if you do the work. There are 3 essays BUT he doesn't grade like an English teacher, he just wants to make sure you know the material. The book is only $4.00 which may also be used for his Hist 102. Vandenbosch is very charismatic, you won't fall asleep. He's also great eye candy, which helps.
History is the worst subject for me so taking my first history class made me a bit scared. Taking it with Vandenbosh was the best choice! Lectures were great, homework not much or hard and each test he gave a study guide. He wanted his students to succeed and do their best and even if needed help he went over & beyond. Taking his HIST102 for sure!!
He is a great History teacher, he is always prepared and ready to start class. He is very professional and keeps your attention. You have to do the work and not skip class to succeed in this class.
I loved the class and history isn't really my thing! I loved the way he made the topics extremely interesting, especially Lincoln. He met with my on Saturday when I had questions, and he is very kind. I would highly recommend this class.
He is one of a kind. I can honestly say he is by far one of my favorite professors of all time. He's an amazing person, but that's not the only reason he's so great. His teaching style is not just a straight lecture, he makes sure he does other stuff to keep you engaged. I guarantee you'll learn and enjoy it.
Professor VandenBosch is by far my FAVORITE professor, not just at MJC, but EVER. He deeply cares for his students, he is brilliant, hilarious and amazing at what he does.
No words could describe how much I enjoyed this class!! Prof VandenBosch literally did anything in his power to help anyone pass the class! Easy A but also learned so much! He is hilarious !! Highly recommend
Very good teacher. If you want to he a history major take him. He does talk very fast so be prepared. The only thing I didn't like was taking quizzes before he even goes through the lectures.
I have never had much interest in history, but this class was so unlike anything I have taken before. He was awesome, and came in to help me when I needed help. I would highly recommend him! He is the best teacher I have had yet!
Amazing teacher! Efficient, knowledgeable, passionate, and great humor. It is refreshing to know that there are teachers such as he that truly care. The way he structures the class, the homework, and the quiz makes it easy to follow and learn.
Great teacher!! I'm not good at history at all and he made it so easy and fun for me. It's ALOT OF WORK but if you do it then it is worth it. Give extra credit and study guides.. I'm also taking him for 102.. I also got an A in his 101 class.
Professor Vandenbosch is such a knowledgeable person & knows his stuff. He's so funny & has such enthusiasm to him, that it's hard for you not to want to pay attention to him. Just make sure you read the chapters & you'll be good on all the Quizzes. Don't miss class, & you're set. I would definitely take his 102 class too.
You will not regret taking Professor Vanden Bosh for history. His lectures were always interesting. Key to success: read the chapters so you do well on the quizzes! Take your own notes and take class notes. Tests include questions from his lectures and the textbook. Do the extra credit. There are 3 essays and a quiz for every chapter.
Gives lots of extra credit and will give you extra credit if you are detailed and express yourself in your writing. The quizzes are not hard but I do recommend you actually read the chapter. will drop the lowest 5 grades if you dont skip a class. Fat talker, lets you use notes in the midterms and the final was word for word from the study guide
I was so glad I took his class this last semester. I normally hate history and dropped another online class, but he made it awesome. He really cares.
He is an amazing Professor! He cares about your success. He will make time to meet with you and make sure you're on track. His assignments aren't difficult . Do the reading and take good notes (That he allows you to use on quizzes and exams!!) and you'll pass. His lectures are fun and engaging. I would DEFINITELY take this professor again!!!
Highly recommend. Took the class during the summer and we only lost a few students in a class of about 100. Very sarcastic and funny, and very passionate. Worked with me on Saturday when I needed help. Wish I would have taken 101 with him.
Vandenbosch will blow your mind with how much one person can care for his students and the subject matter all at the same time. He'll reward you with major extra credit on the Primary Source Documents. I thought taking a 3 hour night class on US history might be current boredom, but ive never enjoyed a class more than this. I'm so thankful
Great teacher, homework load is easy, quizzes are passable, it's best to go to class because you get your lowest quizzes dropped.
I can honestly say that he made the class interesting and I learned a lot! History is one of the hardest subjects for me but he made it go so fast and he really works with you to get the grade that you want! You have a quiz before every class based on the book but he gives you the topics he will focus on! I cant wait to take HIST102 with him!
How do I begin to describe Professor VandenBosch? Lesson plans are not boring; they are thought-provoking. He makes you appreciate the past and adapts it to current events. As an older college student, this isn't your typical regurgitation of facts. I look forward to his 102 class I am sure it will be just as good. Don't think twice about him!!
Best teacher I have ever taken hands down. I usually don't rate professors but I had to for him, this class was THAT good. Not only are his lectures, but his stories are interesting. Show up and you pass, easy as that. I passed with a 98% along with many others in the class. Never throw away any papers, you'll need them at the end of the semester.
The class is not all that difficult. You have lots of quizzes but they are graded on a curve and honestly he sends an email telling you what to prepare for. He is absolutely hilarious and honest. He is so helpful when you need him and down to earth. He clearly loves his job and is determined to give you the best experience. I recommend him you any1
Professor Vanden Bosch is an incredible teacher that wants all his students to succeed. His knowledge of history will blow your mind and his passion for this subject is unlike no other. He gives weekly quizzes, but he announces what's going to be on them a week prior to each quiz.
Professor VandenBosch was probably one of the BEST professors I have had the chance to take a class with. It's important to show up to class everyday for extra credit, look alive and don't be on your phone you will be able to receive the max participation points which is rewarding In the end. KEEP ALL YOUR WORK!! :)
Really fun class! It was a late class and still managed to make history entertaining! I didn't even want to miss class! He is great at teaching and made history fun!
Vanden Bosch was funny, and he Really cares about his students. there are quizzes on the reading before each lecture so you definitely got to study. I took his class over the summer and I plan on taking 102 with him again. He does have his own website with the syllabus and the website has more about him as well ..
A friend referred me and I am SOOO glad she did. I loved this class so much-he was so helpful! He sends out a lot of emails helping you, and his class was always so funny. Lots of sarcasm, but I learned so much. I would highly recommend him!
Amazing professor! Gives every chance in the world for you to succeed with extra credit, coming in on weekends to help with anything you need, and just being available. He makes history VERY INTERESTING and the workload is definitely doable. 10/10 recommend!
Excellent teacher!! Really cares about his students and goes above and beyond to ensure their success. Loans textbooks to first come. Great lectures. This was a 3 hour eve class after a full day at work and it flew by. I was never bored.
Youre crazy if you dont take this class, hes amazing! Take notes the WHOLE lecture so you dont miss anything. Also if you attend ALL classes, he drops 5 of your quizzes at the end of the semester (this helped my grade immensely since theres a quiz every week). Hes constantly updating on Canvas which is SO helpful. Humor during lectures!
I took 101 from him in the spring and I am taking 102 in the summer, and I have loved how he teaches. So clear, so fun, and he really wants to help you. He also responds quickly if you have questions. I wish all my classes were like this.
Amazing teacher! I have been avoiding History because its not necessarily my forte. I have always been weary of trusting this subject. My favorite thing about him is he puts everything into perspective on the reality of how the government was formed to how it runs today. You will never be bored and will learn valuable knowledge. I took HIST 101&102
I took him for History 101 and 102. He is an amazing teacher! Show up to class and study for the quizzes and exams and you will pass with an easy A or B. I used to hate history before taking him. He teaches in a way that sparks your mind and makes you grateful for history. He gives you study guides that are pretty much the exams. GREAT CLASS!
Wonderful class. Great teacher. He was very responsive to emails and encouraging. Would take his class again in a heartbeat.
Very intelligent, open-minded, very funny, and extremely knowledgeable professor with a lot of teaching experience. He keeps the class engaged with interesting topics and tries his best to stimulate class discussion. Amazing experience! I learned so much.
I've never been a big fan of history, but he made this class enjoyable. You have a quiz every week, but if you show up to all his classes then you'll get the 5 lowest dropped. That helped a lot considering I'd almost always get a C on each quiz. He also gives you a study guide for the tests which helps A LOT! Show up and do the work and easy A.
Loved this class! Very passionate professor who also cares about all his students who wants to learn. Went to class only on Wednesdays and it was amazing! A lot of reading for quizzes every week. Study guide were literally the Exams so use your buddies!!! Don't miss class he will drop 5 of ur closest quiz grades! Definitely love his lectures!
I absolutely loved this class and would highly recommend this for anyone needing this for GE. He is very organized and helpful, and met me on Saturday when I needed help. He even got my thinking of switching my major, although I do love working with older people. Take it, you will love it!
He is a very skilled teacher who structures the course clearly so students can see where each lecture is headed and how they fit together. He also has an engaging personality and sense of humor. His in-depth knowledge allows him to introduce fascinating stories that bring the material to life. Selena's study sessions were wonderful and so helpful.
Mr. Vanden Bosch is such an AWESOME professor! His sense of humor is the best I have come across at MJC. He responds to e-mails fast. As he always says... don't let a political party think for yourself, do the thinking yourself. Also, he makes the class an open space for all students regardless of political party which is NICE in this modern time.
I am not a history fan...I cannot lie. I took this class because of all of the glowing reviews and I was not disappointed. Took class online. Discussion posts every week, tests every week, and four essays. If you do the reading, the classwork is simple. You won't regret taking him.
Amazing and passionate! He gives many opportunities to raise your grade and has SI meeting before class to help review for quizzes which helps tremendously. I would 100% recommend taking his class!
By far one of the greatest professors who keeps History interesting. He loves what he does and it shows, he's also accessible no matter what (which was a plus because of my busy schedule).
The most positive professor, always with a smile on his face.
What a great professor. If he teaches a class you need, take it!
What a great professor. His lectures are really entertaining and it feels like he genuinely cares about you understanding the topic. Would recommend!
Best History Professor ever! His lectures were always fun and informative. He really cares about his students. Do your work and you will pass.
I never loved history until now. I am seriously thinking about changing my major. Absolutely loved the class! He genuinely cares, never complains, and will help you if you need it.
You can pass with an easy A. Show up for every class, never leave early, and do not go on your phone. Make your binder PERFECT. He will grade each one. You can use hand notes for every quiz :) Also, quizzes are super easy. Just read the chapter(s) and do notes! There will be 2 or maybe 3 essays. (easy) Trust me, you want to take him for History!
I took Mr. Vanden Bosch for both 101 and 102. The funniest and easiest class Ive taken. Also he wants students to succeed in his class and their education in general. I highly recommend him for history! Awesome experience.
By far the best professor Ive ever had. You can really tell he takes pride in his work and he makes his lectures interesting, so you almost dont even notice that its a 2-3 hour class. The work is manageable (3 essays and primary source documents). He needs to teach more history courses, because Professor Van Valkenburg is awful.
Awesome teacher highly recommend him you would not be disappointed. Just to your reading and take notes and BOOM!!! you got an easy A.
Professor VandenBosch is a knowledgeable Instructor. Guides his students and provides good feedback on essays.
Amazing classroom impossible to fail if you do the work youll get the grade if you put effort you wont have a problem. He is hallarious and engaging. You will never get bored. You do not want to miss a class
Professor Vanden Bosch is one of the best professors at MJC. He cares about his students and he wants them all to be successful. I took both of his classes 101 and 102, and they were very helpful. If you get perfect attendance, he will drop five of your quizzes. Tests are easy. IF YOU WANT TO LEARN, TAKE HIS CLASS. I strongly recommend him.
Awesome professor. Simple class. Show up, read the textbook, do the assignments and there should be no reason why you don't get an A. Chapter tests at the beginning of every class, but you get to use hand written notes. Study packets for every exam... if you don't get an A then I don't know what to say.
Professor Vandenbosch was absolutely amazing, he has an amazing sense f humor and always made lectures fun and interesting! He also really cares about how to make the students understanding the material! Overall he is an amazing instructor and person. I will definitely be taking hist - 102 with him!
Professor Vanden Bosch is what an educator is supposed to be. He is so helpful and inspiring. He is always accessible to his students and really wants them to learn and succeed. He is the best professor I've had at MJC. Attend all classes, do the reading, and study and you'll pass the class!
I have never had such a motivated, well-dedicated and humorous professor! He made learning fun. He is well-informed and well-known in the History community. He expects college level work, but he guides you and makes it easy for you to want to do well! Can't say enough good things about Mr Vanden Bosch!
Each week was a personal challenge but if you take notes and show up you will do great. The study sessions helped A TON. When he says he rewards you for attendance and participation HE DOES. So show up and take GOOD notes! Do the study packets. He is always quick to respond to emails if u need ANYTHING. And do the extra credit! Great class!
hit up study sessions if you can! super supportive and accessible. def recommend him!! a1
This has been the BEST class I have taken at MJC by far. Loved the class, and he is so helpful!
Professor Vanden Bosch is amazing! Very passionate about all things history and eager to spread that passion to his students. He was very accessible and responded quickly to my emails. His lectures were very entertaining and very informative. Show up, don't use electronics during class, and go to the study sessions!
By far the best professor Ive ever had. He is very intelligent, funny, and ambitious. You can certainly tell he loves what he does and takes the extra mile to check up with his students to make sure they are understanding his material. Highly recommend his course!
I had this class through the COVID19 stay-at-home order in California, and the transition from regular classes to just online for his class was the easiest of all of my classes this semester. An easy A, with interesting lectures and coursework that let you explain your own opinions and thoughts for credit. Great class for history nerds.
I took History 102 with no real affection for the subject! After taking Vandenboschs course, my opinion completely changed. More than the subject, it was the professor who shown through, guiding with a hilarious approach that was well-organized, relatable and fun. Professor Vandenbosch was genuine and direct! I would DEFINITELY recommend his class
Professor Vandenbosch is such an amazing professor.. show up to class every time, study for the quizzes and take good notes, know your stuff for the FRQ and primary source documents, put lots of work into your notebook and youll pass with flying colors! 10/10 highly recommend
Absolutely loved professor Vanden Bosch. Super nice guy and responds very quickly to any questions you may have. There is quite a bit of note taking but he gives you the proper materials to pass every quiz and test. I took two semesters with him and would take the class again by far. Made every student feel important and has a great personality.
This teacher is a rare find at MJC. He was helpful, his lectures were engaging, and his requirements were fair. If you do all the work in his class your easily going to receive an A. I would recommend his class to anyone needing to take History 101 or 102!
Professor Vanden Bosch is by far the best professor I've had at MJC. He really cares about his students and is passionate about his work. I took HIST 101 online which was an accelerated program so there was a decent amount of work but the online book he used was great and if you put the work in there's no reason for you to not pass this class.
Professor Vandenbosh is one of the best teachers ive ever had! funny and isnt biased in his opinions at all.
Prof. VandenBosch was absolutely wonderful! I appreciated the immediate feedback and encouraging emails he gave me. Very clear, lots of messages to remind you of what is coming up.
Vaden Bosch is very passionate about his job. There are quizzes each week. You have to study or you wont pass. He gives you helpful study guides though. Offers some extra credit. You need to keep all your quizzes and take a lot of lecture notes for the binder that is due at the end of the semester. It is worth a lot of points. Overall good teacher.
I took this class not knowing the professor and I got so lucky. He is a great professor. He uses Revel so no text book and had to write three papers. If you do all your work he considers not having you take the final but you must do all of your work. Not hard but you have to write clear discussions and give examples. Would do it again.
Something that I love about Professor Vanden Bosch is that he is very helpful in everything he does. He wants you to get a good grade and is always there to help if there is something that you do not understand. I would take his class 100 times more if it was needed. He loves his job and it shows. That's what makes a great teacher.
I am so thankful my friend recommended this class! He has been awesome. So much great feedback, and very encouraging. Best decision I have made yet at MJC. Take this class if you need history.
Prof VandenBosch is one of the best professors I have ever taken. He leaves good feedback and is not a tough grader just put in the effort and youll be fine! I took him for a fall semester and summer and even the summer class (hist 102) wasnt that bad despite it being 5 weeks.
This teacher is AWESOME! He is a hard grader, but it is only because he genuinely cares that you try and learn. He is so sweet and offers clear, wonderful feedback. It might be frustrating because of the amount of reading, but it's so worth it. If you don't read, you won't do well on the assignments. Again though, it's only because he really cares.
Such a wonderful professor who truly cares about student success. I was able to learn so much from this course. I typically do not like history, although he presented it in a way that made it easy to understand and exciting. I recommend him without reservation. Definitely choose his course if given the opportunity.
He was a great teacher, very nice and understanding. His work is easy and straightforward, never no bad surprises.
His class was super easy. Theres no lectures mostly reading but theyre fairly short chapters and he gives you plenty of time (3 weeks for 2-3 chapters) . The discussion questions and essays are easy, if you read your book youll find the answers. Hes also very lenient and reminds you about any assignments due.
Professor Vanden Bosch is a very good professor. He cares deeply about his students' success in the course. The assignments he creates make me more interested in the material. Also, his announcements often include a goofy GIF which makes the experience even happier. I would take from him again in a heartbeat!
LOVE this professor!! If you are needing to take a history course, definitely take his course. You will get an A. The class consisted of discussion posts and around 4 short essays. As well as some assignments on a different program. The only downside was that the program he requires you to purchase is a bit pricey.
This professor went above and beyond. His lectures were very easy and clear. We read out of a Pearson Reveal lecture which are straight to the point. I took him during the summer. The homework was doable especially if you work full time and go to school. Take his class and if you participate and do your homework you will pass with no problem :)
Professor Vanden Bosh is a real straightforward professor. There is no space for error in his class. He does not accept late work (AT ALL). As a student, it's a lot of pressure. From a professor's point-of-view I understand why he doesn't take late work. He sends reminders about upcoming due dates and grades assignments quickly.
I took it online and loved it. There were short writing posts based on your readings, and there were four essays (400 words min) and a final test. I was excused from the 4th essay and final because my grade was already an A. But the essays are based on everything you read, so long as you do the reading, it's easy.
A very kind professor who wants you to be successful.
Professor Vanden Bosch is the kindest professor I have ever had - he really takes the time to remind you of working that is coming up, and provides really positive feedback to help you get better. His personal emails made my day. Plain and simple-he cares.
The class was easy, professor was very responsive and always willing to help!
I would definetely recommend! He is very clear and assignments are not hard at all. No tests and gives extra credit. You do have to put in the work, but nothing too hard. I would take again!!
I am so thankful I took his class! He is so organized, and sent out reminders frequently. I work full-time, and I appreciated the time he took to make the class so easy to follow. I would strongly recommend him as an instructor!
Highly recommend him. He uses Pearson, so you need to pay for that, but the reading is easy and interesting. No late work is accepted. There were weekly writing posts (150 words) and two 75-word replies. We only had 4 essays which were 400 words each. I had an A at the end of the class so I was excused from the final and 4th essay.
Such a great professor! He genuinely wants students to succeed. I appreciate the structure of the class and getting a routine and knowing what to expect every week/chapter. The textbook was through Pearson Revel and was easy to read/listen to. The coursework is very doable to stay on top of and complete. He's been my favorite professor at MJC.
I wish more professors were like him. He is very organized, very clear with what he expects, gives great feedback, and is so motivating to his students. Loved using the Pearson Revel textbook and I think it was very helpful in learning the material. He is also very respectful of people's opinions. Highly recommend him as a professor!
One of the best professors in MJC and in history overall, he clearly knows the subject and is passionate about it. The lectures are fast paced but if you pay attention and do the reading beforehand you will be able to keep up. He exempts two low quiz scores and gives you study guides for the tests.Great lectures that captures your attention.
The best professor I have had at MJC by far! Loved the class!!! Easy to follow, always there when I needed help, and funny. Tries to stay neutral.
Great passionate professor that cares about students. Easy A if you show up to class with a few essays that are easily graded.
Amazing individual that cares about his students!! His humor and passion for teaching history shows every minute of every lecture! Take him if you want to get an A while enjoying the best three hours of your week every week.
Professor VandenBosch is amazing!! I took both his HIST 101 and HIST 102 class. Finished both of them with an A+. Very little homework, just a packet of notes with some guided reading activities and then 3 little papers consisting of only 5 paragraphs. He has been my favorite professor at MJC. Strongly encourage you to take him!
Professor Vanden Bosch was absolutely wonderful! He was super sarcastic, and made the time fly by. Loved his class, and loved the encouragement he gave. Definitely take his class!
Mr. Vanden Bosch was wonderful - I loved his summer course so much! Always helpful and encouraging. Wish I didn't already take 101 before. DEFINITELY take him.
Professor Vanden Bosch is fantastic. I really enjoyed his class and his teaching style. There is a quiz every week, so attendance is a must. He drops five quizzes if you have perfect attendance. The textbook is free. Very little homework. I strongly encourage you to take him.
Professor Vanden Bosch is an exceptional teacher who has profoundly impacted my understanding of a subject I had little interest in coming into the class. His awesome lectures, videos, and activities made history interesting. He is also super accessible if you need help. Take this class!
Professor Vanden Bosch has a unique ability to blend humor with historical content, and he makes learning feel less like a chore and more like an adventure. His stories are filled with sarcastic, witty remarks. He has a serious passion for history and has gone everywhere. He encourages us to question everything, something I really appreciate.
Excellent, conversational, engaging, and sarcastic lecturer - makes the material really interesting. Clearly very passionate about what he does, and travels all over the place.
Great professor, awesome teacher
Professor Vanden Bosch is truly an exceptional history teacher who genuine cares for students. He always greets us with a warm smile. He has a unique ability to make historical events interesting with his witty stories and use of AI with talking pictures. He keeps the class engaged, and his passion for history is infectious.
Professor Vanden Bosch was probably one of the best history teachers I ever had. He makes history not so boring and adds ways to make some moments funny. Homework is mostly done in class and the textbook is optional to read since he gives you the information during lectures as long with just three essays through the semester.
Professor Vandenbosch gives clear, engaging, lectures; he breaks them up with videos, quizzes and tests were multiple-choice. At the end of the semester, he dropped 3-5 of your worst quizzes based on your attendance. He genuinely cares about the engagement and success of his students, assignments were exempt if you were doing well. Would take again
Professor VandenBosch is one of a kind. He made the time fly by each night, and he's very sarcastic and super smart. Loved how he mixed up different activities each night. Highly recommend him!
Professor VandenBosch was my favorite of all my teachers at MJC! He mixed up what we did every night. He always tried to have at least 3 different things each night that made the night fly by. He is caring, sarcastic, and tried to give both sides to every issue. I really appreciated that. Good stories, too.
He has one great teaching style as well as one great ability to convey the material with absolute clarity!
Professor Vanden Bosch laid out such a great path to success. It was so easy to follow his syllabus, and he gave such wonderful feedback on my essays and discussion questions. When I emailed him, he always replied quickly and kindly. I cannot say enough kind things about him-he really cares!
Professor Vanden Bosch is one of very few professors I've taken over the past three years at MJC who truly cares for his students to learn and pass a class. I dreaded to take History again and fail it. I've learned throughout these years that understanding a subject has to do a lot with the way the professor teaches and most of all if they care.
Professor Richard Vandenbosch was a great teacher. He is kind and let's you know if you're doing a good job. He also drops the final of you already have an A in class. He is sweet and wants you to succeed. I recommend taking his class.
Professor Vandenbosch was so kind and helpful. He was extremely encouraging, and the workload is manageable. I would recommend any of his courses to anyone!
This class was so fun but SOOOO hard. He has an amazing way with words that just melt off the tongue. 👅 He really knows what hes talking about but the tests are so hard.
Professor Vanden Bosch was awesome! The time flew by during the night class, and I really appreciate how he helped me out with a letter of recommendation. He takes the time to get to know his students, and he really cares. He even came in and met with me on Sunday. I can't recommend him more highly!
