Really funny, you watch a lot of videos and the only thing he grades on is attendence and two tests that are T/F.

Everything is based on 1 paper and an optional final exam. Does take attendance but he is a very intelligent guy - good class

Oh man, where do I start? THE BEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD! That about sums it up. Go to class and you will ace the exams. DO NOT walk in late.

Had him for both Advanced Public Speaking and Persuasion. APS was a better class in that we got to participate more. In Persuasion, we just seemed to listen to him talk. He related much of his lectures to politics, and I hate politics.

This class is always interesting as you will watch a lot of John Stossel videotapes that are, believe it or not, entertaining. You make or break the class from your paper grade. It's only 2-3 pages but its worth 75% of final grade. Good class overall.

One of the best teachers in COMM major. Watch a lot of videos & final is optional. He's very specific w/ final paper. I took in during a mini mester & passed. Makes you laugh every class. He's a cute professor, kind of looks like Albert Einstein. :)

He should be smashing watermelons b/c he looks and acts exactly like the comedian Gallager, good teacher, hard-core on attendance.

This is one of those rare classes you actually look forward to going to...I'd recommend it to anyone. He will brighten your day and you'll get to watch John Stossel videos all the time

a very interesting class...only 2 tests that are true/false...you never really know what to study or take notes on...but just pay attention and you can easily manage a B or an A even without alot of notes

Very cool guy. Funny and quirky. If your easily insulted or can't handle funny cursing- don;t take him. However, he is a good time and his sense of humor makes time fly by. Great man.

Awesome class...he's very funny and rants and raves but he knows his stuff...if you want an interesting class with an entertaining professor, definitely take it...tests (2 of them) are weird though- true/false even though its a critism class

he bases your whole grade on one paper, but if you turn it in early he will help you out. Its not hard once you understand what to do. It seems boring to watch videos all the time, but I learned so much in this class. read the books, they are good

Extremely good professor, Alwasy on TV doing interviews on the news. Knows his stuff, incredably easy class, you have to be stupid not to get an A in this class. Easy 3 upper level credits.

Definitely take this class if you can...even if you don't need it. It is extremely entertaining, and actually really fun (and I am not the type of person that thinks school is fun). Vatz is the man!!

Vatz is an awesome teacher. Sometimes you are not really sure where he is going with his lecture, but he always brings it together for you. He is very entertaining and you will learn alot, not just learn facts to pass an exam.

Vatz is a Professor that really knows his****. Not the usual coddler looking for appeasement or settling for answers. He challenges every thought you bring to class. The one paper assignment seems outragous but wound up being challenging and fun.

A very bright man, one of the brightest professors you'll ever come across. Basically, you either have a knack for his style and material, or you don't. Not at ALL shy about expressing his opinions, but it's not done with arrogance, it's to challenge you and make you think!! GREAT sense of humor!!

class is based on 1 writing assignment, which isn't difficult at all! take an article, rewrite it to make it all positive or negative. Final is optional, but if you don't take it you can only get a B+ or lower, depending on what grade you get on your assignment, and if you missed any classes. lots of videos which is cool, vatz is great! take this!

THE professor at Towson. Really keeps your interest all the time. Only class I don't use my blackberry.

He's a great guy but hes a very hard grader-And don't take the final if you can help it-I heard it's murder and he tricks you a lot-Again he is great but the reason I gave him the not great part of the review is because how hard it is to get a good grade-If you're looking for an easy A then this class is not for you-Realistically Expect the B range

take the paper seriously!! thats all i can say, don't wait till the last minute, you'll be disapointed because he is a hard grader. other than that he's goofy and funny, down to earth.

Vatz is crazy! But in a good way. Class = boring, but he is hysterical. One paper. DONT MESS IT UP And don't leave it for the last minute! It's your entire grade and if u do bad u have to take the final which ur guaranteed to fail. Paper is easy if u do what he says. Can leave class early. Good "filler" class. Great class, do not be afriad of the fact that Vatz is smarter than his whole class put together. If you interact with him & the class in a clear mannor and dont trip over your own words he doesnt care if your wrong, he just wants your view. Also the paper isn't easy but if you dont get a C he lets you redo it until you do, which is more than fair.

The Best!

V$ as we call vatz, is a very interesting professor. He's part comedian, part socialite, part conservative, part teacher. V$ should be the mascot of TU. If you think this review is somewhat of rant, than you get the point of V$ class, but seriously pay attention cuz if take his test all of this will be on there. Its a nice break in a 5 class sched.

He goes BEYOND your imagination!!! Crazy, funny, smart, fast-paced, absolutely intelligent. No homework at all, but you need to attend classes. There will be only one paper, nothing else, maybe a final test if you wish to take. The paper is very easy, but you need to really be meticulous about it.

Vatz is awesome. Honestly, the best professor I've ever had in college (three different schools). True, there isn't much structured learning or notetaking... but you just get the feeling that later in life you'll realize that you learned a lot from him. His persuasion class is a must take. The college experience is made by a class like this.

CONS: learned nothing, he talked about politics the whole time, required text was written by him and had little to do with the course, attendance is STRICT, class grade is based on one stupid paper. PROS: this guy is insane, hilarious, and entertaining to say the least. Showed a lot of entertaining videos.

I had his class the morning of 9/11 at 9:30am....We were all taking about it at the begginning of class. As things became more clear, he told us that he had a feeling this was something big so he let us leave cuz he felt we should be watching these events unfold live in front of the TV. I will NEVER forget that...I am so grateful to him for that.

Yes, you have to come pretty much every day. I learned that the hard way. The one assignment worth anything I got an A on, but a C in the class bc I never showed up (it's SUPER boring). But just sit there then do the main assignment. Final's optional. I also didn't go to that. So still not a bad grade for hardly coming and not taking a final.

Dr. Vatz is a great professor. I learned a lot from this class. He takes attendance every class and your grade is based off of one paper so if you take him, be prepared to write for weeks. It is a great class. I would recommend taking him.

Vatz is insane. He is also the best teacher I have ever had. I learned more in his 2 classes, sitting and listening, than in any other. He has changed the way I look at the world. Persuasion changed my life. The "seminal paper" is NOT THAT BAD. I got an A- and I literally did the entire thing during a 2 hour break I had the day it was due.

Vatz is a great professor. Take Him! Had him for Media Criticism, didnt read any of the 3 books and still got an A in the class. Class is very interesting, the only 9:00AM class I've ever had that I've been able to stay awake in. Pay attention in class, study for the two exams the night before and you'll do great. Take Vatz!

Persuasion was the best class I have ever taken. I normally don't talk much in class, but Vatz practically forced everyone to speak out. He's a lot of fun, and the material is pretty controversial. Just don't miss any classes and follow every rule for the assignment, and this will be a very rewarding class. I wish I could take it again.

Persuasion is easily the best class I have taken. Vatz is a very competent, intelligent teacher. The paper is 3 pages at most and is not even original material. You rewrite an opinion piece. Assignment could not be easier and is CRYSTAL CLEAR. He spends two classes going over EXACTLY how to write the paper. Awesome professor. So smart!

Vatz, I would have to say is intelligent and knows his material. Persuasion was the best class I have taken at Towson. I learned so much about Rhetoric it change my whole outlook on things and people. You have to pick a opinionated piece from a news paper and rewrite it in reverse order. Its not hard but it does take time. He is a cool professor

Vatz really sees the big picture on politics which he sees as conservative but is open to other point of view. Don't read his assigned text but read articles he mentions in class.

Attendance was not mandatory when I had him but YOU WANT TO GO! He was full of energy and interesting. I really learned for life not just textbook. Had him 15 years ago and now own 2 businesses and have had a wonderful career! Thanks Dr. Vatz!

Vatz makes ungodly early class (8:00!) intresting and exciting. Hes on top of everything. Only problem is he counts attendance very much.

Vatz is crazy and will get you involved in class, you'll love it. 2 easy tests (as long as you come to class, as test material is straight from class discussion). class is current event discussion and a few VERY interesting guest speakers. take this class, go to class, get A.

Boy, you can say attendance is mandatory because Vatz is crazy about absences. Great course and I took it 5 years ago and it has helped me ever since. Really interesting and you learn an incredible amount.

Hell of a guy. Had his class 4 years ago and still keep in touch with him. He's very helpful and if you like Szasz, he'll love you for it.

TAKE HIM FOR MEDIA Crit. He talks the entire class but it is interesting. We watch video clips every class. Attendance is important. Notes are up to you to take but tests are easy and good curve. He is funny and definitely interested in the material. I like his class even though it is at 8:00am

Media Criticism is great! Before this class I had no interest in it, but after learning from Vatz he teaches you to be objective to the media. Its an 8 AM but his energy and enthusiasm make you want to get out of bed and hear what he has to say. He's hilarious and passionate! TAKE THIS CLASS!! One of the best professors I've had at Towson!

DUH! Take him. He's so smart, the class is fun, easy, and you learn a lot! He's the BEST teacher I have ever had. He should be teaching at a much better school but he loves Towson so much! TAKE HIM or you're stupid.

Vatz is a really nice prof who provides a ton of laughs. This class isn't bad to take for an 8am. The course itself is just a midterm and a final. You are also graded on attendance and participation. I got an 88% on the midterm and a 70% on the final. I didn't miss a single class and got a B+ (when my test average was a 79/B-). Definitely take him.

If a class can be said to be exciting, then this class is exciting. We had realy great discussions. Professor is strongminded but doesn't hurt students who argue with him.

This class wasn't too bad. Vatz mostly talks about politics in his lectures, so be prepared for his conservative viewpoint. There is a quiz, paper, and a final. The paper is worth 50 percent of your grade. He really cares about attendance and hates when people leave early. We had a lot of guest speakers throughout the last month of class.

The class itself is a breeze, mostly discussions, no notes at all. However, you have 2 exams (more like quizzes) and one paper. the paper is worth 50 percent of your entire grade. If you understand the assignment, you can easily pass, but it does take work. Vatz is funny and entertaining, and knows his stuff.

Prof. Vatz is amazing. The class was interesting but extremely political, while Vatz is conservative he welcomes opinions different from his own. You are basically graded on one giant paper, he goes over this assignment in very deep detail, so if you don't do well on it, it's basically your fault. The two short tests are based on the textbook .

Come to class and be on time, participate, follow directions. Textbook is used for one test only but helps during the class! I say rent it or don't at your own risk.

You either love Vatz or you hate him. You will never have another professor like him. You are graded by two quizzes about the book and one short paper, plus attendance which is mandatory. Hes old fashioned but funny in a weird way. Would definitely take again.

Vatz is highly respected in the academic community, extremely knowledgable, & an overall interesting guy! He greatly appreciates when students put effort into assignments and class discussions (& will let you know how appreciative he is). Lots of cool speakers. Lots of political talk, but he is unbiased. Legend of a professor. This guy is a must-take. He's the type of professor you'll never forget. Take him if you want an inspirational genius. Easy class otherwise. Always available to talk to students and chat about grades or politics.

He goes against the grain meaning he is not your typical liberal college professor. He is honest with you on speeches and debates. He tells you things as it is and if you have thin skin then I wouldn't take the class. He has no bad intent, he has an opinion like everyone does so don't complain if he says something you don't like.

Professor Vatz is a great Professor who encourages thoughtful, open discussions, in his lectures. Overall he doesnt give out much work which is refreshing and we frequently have interesting speakers come in. He talks politics a lot but is unbiased and welcomes all opinions. Dont take his class if you dont find political rhetoric interesting.
