WONDERFUL! I was actually sad when this class was over, and trust me, I'm not that kind of kid! Fun, easy, and he knows what he's talking about unlike many TTU professors!
He makes learning fun. All of his tests & quizzes are essay, but you will be more than prepared if you take notes. Always be ready for a pop quiz, their not hard so don't panic. I'm sad to be leaving his class, but hope to get him again for the second part of HIST 2301.
Very good teacher, makes history interesting. He doesn't just stand up there and tell dates the entire time, he actually tells it more story like and easy to follow
Dr. Verrone does not give his opinion in class, only facts. He is an great prof. Learned alot. Don't buy the book. Everything is from lecture w/ no power point. He is very fair if you show any effort. All quizes and tests are essay(easy) but there is no other homework. Take notes of his lecture and study abit and all is good. Thanks Dr. Verrone!
Best professor at Tech!
This guy should receive an award for making history fun and interesting. I have learned more from him than from any history class before or since... and it was easy. He received a standing ovation on the last day of class. His exams are based on lecture, which he presents with great clarity, interest and in chronological order. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Great Professor! Started failing went and talked to him and finished with a C then went back at end of semester and ended with a B. Willing to work with grades if you make an effort. Part of grade is attendance so its easy. Shouldve done better cuz quizzes and tests are straight from notes, nothing more. Totally recommend this guy!!!
Best professor I have ever had! Easy to pay attention to since hes pretty hot and has an easy going attitude.
Dr. Veronne is an awesome professor who tells you about history through stories rather than just listing the facts. He never pushes his opinion on you and he makes note taking easy. I'm always excited to go to his class. Beware of cell phone use in class!!! If it goes off at all he'll kick you out of class, no questions asked. Overall awesome professor! TAKE THIS CLASS! :)
This guy is a total bad ass and deserves an award. I didn't read any of the assigned readings, let alone buy them for that matter. Quizzes are from the readings and tests are from the lectures. Both are completely essay based. The only extra credit comes from attendance. He gave me a full letter grade higher just for being in his good graces.
Verrone is the most committed fair interesting teacher i ever had!! He does not care about grades but if you try even a little but and show some effort he will give you an A. Beisdes being a great teacher he is a great person and I know i can go to him regardless of if its dealing with history or not! LOVEEEE VERRONE!
He is by far one of the most caring professors/teachers I have ever had! His classes aren't mandatory but the discussions are-and attendance is your grade. His study guides are very helpful, SERIOUSLY READ THE TEXTBOOKS. His TA's are very helpful as well!
Great overall teacher. Hes funny , very serious about his job, has a passion for teaching history, DEF. GET THIS PROFESSOR AND IF HIS CLASS IS FULL WAIT UNTILL IT GETS OPEN!!
Verrone is by far the best history teacher I have ever had. He keeps you engaged by telling history as a story, and I enjoy coming to class every day. Beware, he is very strict with cellphones and will kick you out if it goes off. Try your best to get in his class!
He's funny, and makes you want to come to class. You can go to his office and he'll work with you for whatever you need. He genuinely cares about his student. HIGHLY RECOMMEND TAKING THIS PROFESSOR!
SUCH A GREAT TEACHER! By far my favorite teacher. Takes attendance and has assigned seating. Test are all essay. He is very understanding and super funny. Read the assigned readings and youll be fine.
Such a great teacher! Has mandatory attendance and assigned seating. The lectures are super fun. He gives information in a way you can understand and is super funny. I would recommend bringing a laptop to class. Study the notes and the handouts and you'll be fine on the tests. Tests include chronoligic items, short answers, and an essay.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PROFESSOR. As long as you go to class and somewhat pay attention and go to discussions, you'll get an A. He genuinely cares about his students, his tests/quizzes are extremely straight forward. If you can get in his class, do it. Don't text in his class, he will embarrass you! Best professor I've ever had.
His class is easy, but regardless I have no respect for him as a teacher (which has never happened in my 3 years of being in college). I'm sure many of my class mates will agree his grading is a little ridiculous and particular but that could just be the T.A's fault. All in all a weird professor who will chew you out if your phone even vibrates.
Very good professor, he is strait forward. Attend class because he throws out two pop quizzes in there. VERY STRICT cell phone policy. if your phone even vibrates he will call you out in front of the entire class. Tests and quizzes are very strait forward as long as you come to class and do the assigned readings.
Best teacher I have ever had. He makes you want to come to class and learn. I honestly wish he taught all of my classes. You do not have to buy a textbook. But you do have to read 3 small books for class. He teaches his material like a story and he is very funny. If this class is full, wait and take it later. You will not regret it. He is awesome.
I had Verrone for both Hist 2300 and 2301. He is by far the best History teacher and if you go to every class will get an A. The final is optional and he only has two tests. One is geography with the 50 states. DEFINITELY TAKE HIM!
Dr. Verrone is an excellent professor. He has a true talent and gift for speaking and teaching. He keeps it interesting and never fails to throw in a funny sarcastic joke now and then to keep you interested and listening. He takes great pride in his work and everyone knows it. Only prof ive ever had where everyone gave him an applause the last day
Dr. Verrone is basically a Kevin Kline character in real life. He is passionate about his work, witty, and extremely fair. He doesn't emphasize the memorization of dates which is truly refreshing. He instead focuses on the historical facts and story. Only thing missing is a tweed jacket...
The student under me has it about right. He is fair and does not really ramble. He is too strict about the phone thing in my opinion but overall is an excellent teacher.
Loved this class. Attendance is mandatory so dont take it at 8:00 am but not a bad class to have. Verrone is a pretty serious prof. He is funny but doesn't fool around when it comes to teaching. Little paranoid about phones being out and computers and what not but if you want a great professor and want to make an A then take V.
No doubt in my mind that any one reading this should take him as a professor. Expects a lot but it pays off when you are exempted from a final exam!!
Took US History 1945-present with Dr. Verrone in fall of 2010. Awesome personable, great reads for class. Great discussions.
Incredible teacher. In fact, one of the best teachers I have ever had. Taught the "why's and how's" of history instead of just making you memorize terms and dates to go along with it. He cares about his students. You should take him.e
Verrone is the best professor I have had so far. He is passionate about his job, makes class time fun and interesting, and cares deeply about all of his students. He doesn't assign a textbook, only reading books for reading quizzes. Overall, this class was a wonderful learning experience, and worth coming to class every day.
Awesome teacher, makes you truly understand history!
Easy class. He'll make it sound hard, but its pretty easy. The TA are very lenient in grading his test/quizzes. The best part is being exempt from his final for having an A in the course prior to it. Besides the easiness of the class, Verrone truly cares for his students.
This guy sets the standard for what a professor should be like. His teaching and passion for teaching is so remarkably genuine it changes the way you treat class. Took him for War and Memory last spring(TAKE IT) and he not only showed the utmost respect and honor in class to his students but also to student matters outside of class. Great man.
Best professor ever. Hands down. As a science nerd, he made me enjoy a history class. Cares about every student as a person and makes an effort to learn as many names as possible in his class. I wish he taught more classes I need for my degree.
By far best teacher on campus. He knows whats up and how to teach. IF you have an "A" in the class before final exam you get to skip it. Pretty sweet deal.
Verrone is a wonderful and passionate professor. Blah blah, all the stuff that has already been said. My question is how the hell does this guy not have a better hotness rating?!
Such an awesome teacher and an awesome person. Truly cares about his students and history. TAKE HIM!!!
AWESOME professor!! I have never enjoyed or been able to pay attention in a history class before. His passion for history makes it really easy to learn, and he teaches it like a story. His tests and quizzes are very straightforward, you just need to make sure you go to class. I wish I would've taken him for my previous history class as well!
Awesome teacher, all you can ask for
Best professor I ever had. Easy A if you make an effort to go to class, also don't use cell phones!!!
Dr. V is the best ever!! If you don't get to know him you are missing out. He cares for his students and will do anything to make sure they do well. Hates exams. Chooses good books and makes the class laugh
this guy is this reason I chose to major in history. awesome professor, awesome person. get to know him outside of class.
He is really nice and really funny. He has a way of humanizing history. He really wants everyone to succeed. Do not, under any circumstances, pI'll out your phone though. EVER. he wants your aTrenton throughout the entire lecture. If you text in class you will be kicked out.
amazing. amazing. amazing. taking him again next semester!
Great Explanations, textbook not required, but other readings (any novels recommended on the textbook site) are. It doesn't matter if you buy ebook or not, as long as you actually read it. Tough, but easily passable.
This guy gets it. The best teacher I've ever had and yes that includes Elementary SchoolMiddle SchoolHigh School. He never gives anything multiple choice, and lets you form your own opinion on what he teaches. The class isn't that hard you just have to put in effort. Taking him again next semester for sure. (TAs are very picky with phones...)
The best professor I had this semester. He actually cares about his students, makes a point to learn as many names as possible. If you show up to class and show some effort, if you need grade help, he will help. Make sure you read because he will make you feel like you "cheated your soul" by not reading. Essay tests, but I highly recommend Verrone!
Dr. V is an awesome professor. He makes lectures interesting and fun and I would recommend him to every student. I worked incredibly hard to make sure I was in his class next semester as well because I like him that much. All of tests are essays, so keep that in mind if you hate writing. You do read three books, but they aren't awful.
Dr. Verrone loves his job. He gives amazing lectures and makes class interesting. He is a very nice guy, but if you do something he dislikes (talk, use your phone) then he will probably call your attention out loud and it might be embarrassing. I had to read 3 novels and took an essay quiz for each one. You'll get an A if you get your work done.

Best Professor I have had! Gives great and funny lectures which make a boring subject exciting. A little bit of reading is involved, but it's nothing you can't spark note. There is no multiple choice just essay tests and quizzes but only one test not including the final. Final will be exempt if you have an A at the end of the class!
By far the best professor in the history department.
Great teacher, would take him again.
Verrone is the man. I would take him every single semester if I could. Funny guy who loves to teach. History can be a boring subject, but not with Verrone. He is a great teacher that everyone should have the privilege of taking at least once.
Verrone is BEST HISTORY PROF at Tech. Seriously. He works with you to get the grade you want. Show up to class and you'll do really well in the class, but if you don't you will do very poorly. His exams are all essay style, but not formal essays. All very laid back and clear. As long as you understand the material (he's a GREAT lecturer) you'll A.

Awesome professor. If you struggled in history or just find history to be boring, I encourage you to take Verrone. He lectures without a power point, but as long as you listen in lecture and take notes you'll be in great shape. He's less focused on dates and more about how certain items in history are significant which I find to be interesting.
Dr. Verrone is God-sent! He will treat you according to your class level, which is great! I learned so much from him and myself after taking this class and he gives amazing feedback! I wish I would've known about his classes before, he would've been the only teacher I would ever take in a history class.
Professor Verrone is one of the best!! He is very helpful and wants to make sure you get an A in this class and he understands that history is not most peoples majors so he really wants you to get an A in the class and leave with a more appreciation toward past history! Advice: go to his office hours instead of the TA's if TA is not helping
One of the best professors I've ever had. I was in a huge lecture and he still remembers me a year later.
Verrone is a very straight for kinda guy. even though there are two pop quizzes during the semester he drops hints here and there and you will be able to know when your quiz will be. He is all about helping his students learn by relating his lectures to your families past. he is ohonestly one of the best Professors that I have ever had.
I've never been able to have a connection to a teacher before Verrone. By far the best professor/teacher I have and will ever have. His class isn't a joke, meaning that he expects you to take care of your work, but I would take his class over again without hesitation.
Although Dr. Verrone assigns a few books to read throughout the semester, they're typically interesting books. He doesn't ever assign homework other than reading. He's a very fair grader, and always does his best to make sure you get the grade you deserve. Tests are fairly difficult, but the note handouts have all the answers in them.
Best History teacher I've ever had.
Dr. Verrone is THE BEST TEACHER EVER. He genuinely cares about both the material and his students, and about inspiring original thought about historical events. The only time that class is boring or unpleasant is if he asks a question (which he does MULTIPLE TIMES PER LECTURE) and the class stares back at him in silence. Everything is essay-based.
Hands down greatest professor ever, and I HATED history. If you use your phone you WILL be kicked out though, but other than that he's chill. He allows students to voice their opinion at any point and allows them to say literally whatever they want. He's super helpful in office hours. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he doesn't post lectures online
Fantastic professor with fantastic lectures. He gives a lecture outline out before the lecture so you can organize your notes better and he's very approachable. He'll give out 1-2 pop quizzes but they're easy and never on the first day of class that week. Super caring and very thoughtful.
I would easily take his class again if needed, since he is such a great professor. The handouts he gives in class are very helpful and it's almost mandatory to be there for class since 2 pop quizzes are given randomly throughout the semester. The lectures he gives are funny af and very enjoyable. Be ready to read 3 books (plenty of time given)
Dr. Verrone is absolutely amazing! He is hilarious and truly cares about his students. He is by far my favorite professor. There is no textbook for the class, only a few short novels. You MUST read them for the reading quizzes. They are really good, though. Don't use your phone while he is lecturing. His class is really fun if people participate.
awesome teacher! He is tough, but if you show up to class, and pay somewhat attention it should be easy. You can exempt the final at the end of the semester (which yay!!!). If you show up to class and participate he is willling to give bonus points and help you if needed at the end of the semester! HIGHLY RECOMMEND
He is really unpredictable in a good way. You can skip his final exam if you have an 'A' for the class already, which was not hard at all. Read whatever he wants you to read plus your own thoughts easy A. 20% absence will get you 3 extra credits each time. Exams are all essay based which you can easily score high once you are used to it.
By far the best history teacher I have ever had. He does give 2 pop quizzes but he never gives a pop quiz in the same week as another test. His tests are easy if you give straight facts and not throw out everything you know. Absolutely hilarious, keeps you on your toes. Attendance is mandatory but I always wanted to go to class.
Dr. Verrone cares about your grade as much as you do and will work with you to get the grade you want. He is a hilarious man that makes history fun and enjoyable no matter how much you hate it. Attendance and participation are mandatory but by the end of it you will actually enjoy coming. He is fair and thats a promise he will keep.
He's an awesome guy that only wants to see you succeed. He does expect a mutual classroom respect which includes absolutely no phones in class. Every assignment is in class but there are 3 books that you'll have to read over the semester. He's also hilarious and doesn't mind, nay, encourages cursing in the lecture. Very nice guy in person too.
verrone had to be one of my favorite professors that i have had at tech. if you are willing to work you will get a good grade. if you hate history he will make you love it by the end of the semester. if i could take him every semester i would. TAKE HISTORY WITH THIS MAN.
Dr. Verrone is the best professor I've had. His passion & teaching engages students. Although this class was big, he made it easy to participate & engage. He sets reasonable expectations that students are capable of reaching if they put effort in. He cares not only about the learning but also the success of his students. I looked forward to class.
I absolutely LOVE Verrone. I have never liked history and was very scared of taking it in college but Verrone makes is interesting and relevant to life today. He is funny and makes me look forward to class. Attendance is very important and he definitely DOES NOT put up with phone use in lecture. Will do everything I can to take him again!
Verrone is an interesting professor. The pop quizzes are difficult. Prepare for his exams. When he goes over the slave portion of the class, try your best not to get offended.
Great Professor! Really cool guy and does not force you to remember dates. Test are very open-minded so you easily get an A just by really taking in the knowledge and paying attention in the lecture. I am taking my second history class with him for sure!
I encourage everyone to take Dr. Verrone for his humor, his wit, and how passionate he is about history. I promise you will be a better person for having him. Not the easiest class at Tech, but there's no way you won't get an A if you try. Do not hesitate to take his class, if there are seats open JUMP at the opportunity. You'll love him.
Amazing class & professor if you truly care about doing well in the course. He identifies well with the students he knows care, so I recommend going to at least one of his office hours. If you sit in the front you will do very well because he is so amazing at lecturing that you will WANT to learn about history. I HATE history and finished with an A
What. A. Professor. Richard Verrone is the best professor I have ever had. I hate history yet Verrone made it my favorite class this semester. You read 3 books a semester but none of them are excessive. He does his job to get you a good grade and the final is optional. Attendance is mandatory but it doesn't matter, he makes you enjoy coming.
two tests, mid-term and final. final is optional if you are okay with your grade. two pop quizzes, and 3 book quizzes. everything is short answer, attendance is marked everyday. overall easy class and he makes lectures interesting!
Verrone is a fantastic and great professor if you're not a minority. I personally enjoyed lecture but his teaching style needs to change. I have nothing against him but seeing how many of his diverse students reacted outside the classroom to his slavery lectures left me very disappointed in him and TTU for hiring someone like that. Got an A though!
Dr. Verrone's lectures and reading selections bring the time period from 1500-1877 to life. You must attend class because the lectures present America's history as an ongoing, participatory story. Early America's failure to address the slavery issue was a predominant theme. We had 168 students, assigned seats, and essay tests. Will take more.
Best professor i have had. Clear, straight forward, and interesting.
If you want to know what a lecture from Dr. Verrone is like, try listening to Dan Carlin's Hardcore History. He tells history like a story, and provides outlines to everyone so they can follow along the timeline. Graders are fair (not too easy, not too hard) and Verrone is incredibly understanding of students with disabilities. Take his class!
I had an amazing experience taking Dr. Verrone's class this past summer. His lectures are fun, which is good because attendance is very important. He is very helpful to the students who want to be there. Be prepared to read and read A LOT. I definitely plan on taking his class again.
This professor is AWESOME. If you have the chance to take his class DO IT. He is not the professor to take if you cant handle teasing or cursing. He makes learning history enjoyable and the books he picks to read aren't terrible. Plus if you have higher than an 86 he bumps you to an A and you dont have to take the final at the end of the semester!
He's a great professor
Most likely the best professor at Texas Tech. If you ever have the opportunity to learn from him, do so. You have to show up to class and pay attention, but he wants you to succeed more than anything else. Great man and hilarious, his lectures are brilliant.
He's a very great professor. Makes history fun and usually is very funny. Loves to start lecture 10 minutes after class begins, but takes attendance as soon as class is scheduled to start. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD SILENCE YOUR PHONE! He hates when people's phones go off and might kick that person out. If no one confesses, the whole class leaves.
The Honors section was amazing. This guy is so funny and really cares about you as a student.
Easy to be successful in this class if you put in minimum effort. I personally read the book quiz books, but I know many who did not and still ended up with a good grade in the class. The most fair teacher I have ever had. Has an exemption policy that lets you be in complete control of your grade.
He's absolutely amazing, he's so entertaining and doesn't care about the details of history which helps a lot. You have to go to class though and stay off of your phones. This is one class I can walk away from and say I actually learned something, and I used to hate history.
He gives you the grade you truly deserve.
Best teacher I've ever had. Really cares if you care.
Best teacher I've ever had here. He's hilarious and passionate about history. I considered switching my major just to take more of his classes.
Very thankful for this professor. I doubt he even realizes the impact he has on his students. He is very passionate but he cares and that will go further than he will ever understand with me. Highly recommend!
Dr. Verrone is honestly the best teacher i've had at tech and arguably the best teacher i've had ever. If you go into his office hours and show him that you care, he'll work with you and it makes all the difference to the grade you'll get. He really cares about his students. Taking this class isn't an "easy A" but its not hard if you try.
Without a doubt my favorite professor at TTU, I'm pre-nursing and I sat in class wondering if I could minor in history because of him. Good workload if you put in the effort, super interesting lectures, very straightforward. He is truly trying to give you the best possible grade. Highly recommend.
Take this class!! You do have to show up for the lectures, bc he takes attendance & there are pop quizzes that affect your grade, but his lectures are amazing! I hate history, got a C in my last history class & got an A in Verrone's just because he makes the lectures so fun. Also he's super chill & is willing to work with you if you put in effort.
verrones class is for students that don't try and get and A. i worked in the class very hard talk to TA very hard for them to understand. he cares about student but not all of them just the ones who were in both of his history classes. i would not take him again
LOVED being in Dr. Verrone's class. Lecture format. No Textbook. If you have an A in the class before the last exam, he will exempt you and you don't have to take it! Overall, he's an amazing professor and I got so much out of taking his class. Easy A if you come to class and take notes!
This is the best professor I've ever had- he didn't test you on dates and names. Instead of looking for memorization, he wanted to see what the students' opinions on history were- like what was most important? why? I learned more from him in 2 semesters of history than I had throughout my entire high school years, and somehow he made it fun.
Easily the best professor I've ever had. I've taken him for two different courses (2300 and 4309) and they're two of my favorite courses I've taken during undergrad.
Simply excellent
Verrone is AWESOME! I hate history but his lectures are interesting. Great personality. Only thing is you MUST read the books he assigned in order to pass the exams because they are open ended responses.
Verrone is interesting. I did not like it when he played "devil's advocate" because he was very offensive. I ended up with a 'B' in the course. It's not difficult as long as you do the work and understand the terms that are given. Do the reviews! They are guidelines of what to expect on the test. Know them all because he will pick and choose which.
Awesome professor
He's a good guy, funny and smart, but his exams were graded harshly and so were the quizzes. I read all the books and studied for the exams and still came out with a B. I would feel good about my quizzes and exams and then come out with C's. Very rough grading system. Wouldn't take him again.
This class is very easy to get a good grade in. All you have to do is come to class and pay attention! There is a very light workload. He has a few books to read throughout the semester, which he uses in place of textbooks. (Much cheaper). His lectures are actually interesting, even if you hate history. Attendance is an easy way to get points.
Professor Verrone was so kind, I really enjoyed his class. We read 3 books for this class instead of a textbook which was way cheaper. very few grades which if you read and pay attention during the lectures you will be fine. attendance is mandatory but very easy to get points from.
Dr. Verrone is absolutely awesome. TAKE HIS CLASS. He makes a boring subject very interesting. He assigns 3 books (not expensive) and they're not hard to read. If you have an A before the final, you don't have to take it. Also, turn your phone off - he hates it and you can go 80 minutes without your phone.
Verrone is one of the best prof ive had in my time at tech. Highly recommend taking his class. He makes one of my least favorite subjects bearable and keeps the class entertained. Reading three books and taking a few essay tests was not very difficult at all with him. Also if you have an A before the final, you are exempt.
Dr. Verrone is a really cares about his students. Even in a big class, he makes sure that he doesn't treat you as just an R number. Actually read the books he assigns because you won't pass the quizzes if you don't. Grading is a little rough ... my class' midterm average was a 62.
Verrone is the best professor you ever have at tech, hands down.
He teaches in a way is never had before. He doesnt use powerpoints so staying attentive in class is important which I liked bc I wasnt tempted to do things on my phone or computer. He relates history to real life and tried to use examples from today to help you understand the topics. Hes just a cool dude in general who cares about his students.
His lectures are so interesting and fun to listen to. Never boring, his grading guidelines are reasonable and doable as long as you attend class. Do not skip his class. If you show up to class everyday, and do decently in the class, he will bump your grade at the end of the semester. Also his final exam is optional depending on your final grade.
The textbooks listed for you to buy from TTU are wrong, he had us read three novels and we had quizzes over those. We only had one mandatory test and the finial was optional. He is very clear about what will be on the test in his lectures, however if you do not go to the lectures you may struggle. Also hes funny so the lectures were never boring.
He is by far the best teacher I have ever had. He is hilarious and makes the lectures extremely interesting and something that you really don't want to miss. Instead of being the usual I don't want to go to class, this class made me excited to actually go because it was so good.
Easily the best professor I've ever had. Everything is essay-based, but that is the only down side to this class. I looked foward to his lectures, he's hilarious and really cares about his students. Would definitely recommend Verrone.
This is one of the best professors I have had at Texas Tech so far. His lectures are amazing and help the class fly by. He lays out all the rules on the 1st day of class and warns you that if you can't abide by those rules to drop, but they are simple rules. He's such a dad.
I love Verrone so much that I took him twice! He relates history to things that happen in this century and his lectures are so interesting. Pay attention and go to class and you will do fine. Also read the books he assigns because there are quizzes over them that are not easy.
Awesome professor! He is really approachable and loves for you to come talk to him and ask him questions. DON'T USE YOUR PHONE IN CLASS HE WILL KICK YOU OUT. Great lecturer and always inspirational. He tells you exactly what to expect out of his class and he won't surprise you. He is a fair grader and always encourages you. Highly recommend!
Dr. Verrone is AMAZING! Hands down best professor I've had. Absences count against you so don't skip class, but his lectures are fun to go to so it's worth it to go. Dr. Verrone teaches history in a completely different way that makes you really enjoy and appreciate it, unlike most other history professors. Beware of pop quizzes tho so go to class!
By far one of the most caring professors I've had. Always available if you need assistance, and really tries to get to know his students. ALL tests and book quizzes are short answer and essay. His pop quizzes were fill in the blank but all had extra credit offered. You must go to class or he'll take off major attendance points.
If you're a non-history major, or a history minor, he is by far the best professor to take, just don't slack off and you'll get an A.
This was my 2nd semester with Dr. V and sadly it will be my last. He is a really good person and a true intellectual. Don't slack off and you will get an A. Take his class, you won't regret it.
Richard Verrone is the best professor you will ever have at Texas Tech University!! Being in his class is such a rewarding experience
This is THE BEST prof at Texas Tech. All test are based on lectures so be sure to attend! All his T.A's are awesome as well! He is inspirational and actually cares about your well being. You have 3 books assigned to you throughout the semester and I don't like to read but the ones he chooses are always awesome! Take him and good luck!
I really liked this professor. He takes you through history and does it in a very real way that makes you feel like you are there. He is thorough in his lectures and his expectations. He is upfront with you and very transparent. He also cares about his students and their success. I highly recommend this professor.
um, technically you dont have to get the books but theyre cheap and good reads. His lectures are fun, but participate! otherwise, you run risks of him giving you a pop quiz, kicking you out of class, or not giving you days off. Very easy class. show up, do your work, study slightly and everything will be good.
terrible
He's so passionate and overall one of the most influential professors in my college career.
He was an awesome professor and tried to teach history from an impartial point of view unlike many of my previous professors. He really cares about you and he would rather you learn something about life or yourself and take that away than the actual history portion.
Dr. Verrone is an amazing professor. He has an awesome sense of humor and wants you to enjoy his class. He is a realist and understands that not everyone is interested, but his teaching style gets everyone laughing and having a good time. All exams and quizzes are written. It really is a fun class, but you have to take notes. Awesome guy.
My Man!
I have taken Dr. Verrone's upper and lower level classes and I can say with centity that he is one of the best educations I have had. His lower level classes are very easy all you need to do to pass is show up, listen, and read the books. His upper level classes are much eaiser and catered towards the students than other upper level classes.
Dr. Verrone's classes are amazing. Yes, you need to be there to listen to the lectures and take notes, but in all honesty, you don't want to miss his awesome lectures! He makes learning history relevant to life; not just about facts. The books chosen turn out to be really good reads! Take his class and learn from this great man!
Dr. Verrone is an amazing professor. His lectures are easy to follow, for someone who thinks history is usually boring. It takes a little adjusting to his lecture and test style, but if you go into office hours once it will get you to A level for it. There is a bunch of extra credit too! Overall, great professor who cares about students.
Dr. Verrone is quite simply an amazing professor in every regard I can see. I took his Honors history course and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. He focuses on understanding the "why" of history rather than the "when," so there's little date memorization, but he does expect students to focus and "be present" in class. Wonderful professor!
Favorite professor at Tech so far. Was a great class where I feel like I learned a lot.
Dr. Verrone is an amazing professor. Attendance is mandatory, and you get one unexcused absence before it affects your grade (you could miss a couple and it wouldn't affect you too much, though). His lectures are so interesting, so I actually really looked forward to his class! Best professor I've had at Tech so far!
He was one of the best professors I have taken at TTU. He is a man of respect and is very knowledgeable. He cares about his students and as long as you read and show up and take of your stuff, you will get an A. He teaches his class very thoroughly and lets you know what will be on the exam. He also doesn't give out exams on mondays or tuesdays.
An awesome professor. I took his summer course and looked forward to class every day. His tests are free response, but are easy if you do the review and attend class. He genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed.
Best professional I have taken at TTU. I would 10/10 change my major to history, just so I could take his class again. He values his students and sees their full potential. Great lecturer and great man.
I loved Verrone! I had him for Honors 2301 and I have to say, if you need to take an honors class and he has a section available- take it! You will not regret it. If youre someone who talks back and doesnt to the work, he will not hold out on calling you out or literally kicking you out of class. Just respect him and he will respect you too.
Great professor! Probably one of my favorites here at Tech!
Best professor I've had! Dr. Verrone really brings all of his lectures to life and is very funny. He cares about his students and explains every assignment really well. It's not hard because there so interesting, but make sure to pay attention to his lectures b/c there are no power points or anything online. There are also pop quizzes!
Had him for honors. Dr. Verrone gives really interesting and engaging lectures, and overall is a nice guy who really cares about his students. He can be a bit temperamental and it's kinda hard to gauge what will set him off, but just be respectful and you should be fine. His grading style can take a bit to get used to, but he gives great feedback.
I had Dr. Verrone for honors, and he gives really good lectures. I'm personally not a fan of history, but he made it substantially less boring. It took a while to figure out what would piss him off, but just don't be disrespectful and he'll be cool. Wasn't a huge fan of his grading style and I barely made an A, but overall he's a good professor.
Dr. Verrone was by far my favorite professor. I do not like history at all and he made it so fun and interesting to learn. We only had one exam and an optional final. Three book quizzes during the semester and they're super easy if you read or at least read some of the books. Absolutely recommend!!!!
Imma keep it this my guy- J Lifestyle
I have had Dr. V for History 2300 and 2301 and he is by far the best professor at Texas Tech! He has a great teaching style that keeps lectures interesting. Also he is very clear when explaining his expectations on test and quizzes. The TA's mainly grade your work but if you aren't happy with your grade they are always willing to work with you.
Dr. Verrone cares so much about his students. His class is engaging, funny, informative. Hes very honest and upfront. We had three books to read, no textbook. Exams are fair, quizzes are fair. You will do so much better if you go to class.
Dr. Verrone has truly made the experience of college during covid19 manageable. From the first day of class, he is honest, caring, and you can tell he is passionate about teaching history. You can also tell he cares deeply about his students individually. If you have the chance to take his class, please do so. Teachers that care makes a difference.
Dr. Verrone has been amazing during the covid 19 semester of my freshman year. It was refreshing to go to an in person class and have actual interacting with a teacher rather than just a computer screen. He is extremely friendly and real with his students. The class is what you make of it, if you intend on participating, this class will be a blast.
A total GEM! His class was in-person but you don't have to go because there are no lecture exams. You should go though because he's amazing and cares about you as a person. He's so wise and helpful and his assignments really aren't that difficult. I didn't read a single book assigned and passes. Would take his class 800 more times!
He is super funny. He gives great lectures and made me like history. Definitely recommend
Dr. V made this class so chill and fun that sometimes it doesn't even feel like you're in school. It's just like you're having a conversation with this guy about history. He is also funny and has a ton of interesting stories to share. In addition to that, it was my easiest class this semester. A great professor who truly cares about the student.
Relies HEAVILY on short answer questions, reading the books he lists are a MUST. The TAs he selects grade rigorously and are set in there decisions. Exams are a cakewalk with the info he provides considering they are online.
Verrone makes this class very easy. There are quizzes over books he has you read which are open ended, so reading the books is required. The exams over lecture content are not memorization heavy, but this means you must be absolutely solid on the material. He tends to go on strange tangents. Make sure to pay attention, or he will call you out.
Dr. Verrone's class is not a blow off class, you have to read and work for your grade but he gives great feedback. I learned a lot and would definitely take his class again.
Unless you flourish in an environment where you just read one book and then answer short answer questions. would not suggest. I really struggled with this format, and being online there were no lectures which might have made this class better. I would not recommend his online class and I'm honestly disappointed as his in person lectures sound great
Richard is easily my favorite professor. He lectures straight from his notes, doesn't believe in textbooks, and loves what he does. You do have to do some assigned readings, but the books are cheap and easy to read. Just show up, actually listen to the guy, take notes, and you got an A. Oh, he also rounds up two full points. Best professor ever!
I took his class freshman year and I still have not found a professor like him. He almost convinced me to change my major to history because of how interesting he made. A real down to earth guy who likes to be fair with people. Highly recommend this professor.
He has assigned seats to check for attendance and will sometimes pick on people, which I found to be unprofessional at times. He also tends to virtue signal during lectures. On the contrary, the exams were not too bad.
I absolutely LOVED Dr. V! It's very apparent that he loves his job & wants to be there every day. He's very transparent with us & open to listening to his student's problems/concerns. There are 3 assigned books & as long as you read them, easy A! Lectures are very informational and funny! Exams are essay form, but do the work and very easy A!
Best history professor I've ever had. He cares about his students and genuinely wants to help you in any way he can. He does have high expectations, though, and will be tough. I learned a ton in this class and will definitely take him for any other histories I need.
He is literally one of the best professors at Texas Tech, his lectures are super interesting but you only have to go if you want to. Your grade is based on reading quizzes and 2 writing assignments. I really liked this class once I got used to his quiz style. There's a quiz a week so it's really easy to recover from a bad grade.
he is very caring and funny! AMAZING PROFESSOR!
I have taken his class for both 1300 and 1301. He cares about his students and always asks for our opinions. He tries to get to know his students which I find very encouraging and helpful. If you reach out and get to know him, he will get to know you and work with you. I definitely recommend taking his class and actually engaging in the lectures.
There's a reason this dude is a 5/5. Very laid back, gives extra credit on almost every quiz, and knows most people are taking his class because they have to, not because they are history majors.
Best class I've taken all year and I hate history. Lectures are optional, the assignments are not based on the lectures but rather on documents that he uploads. You have a week to complete each quiz/exam. No essays in this class!! Verrone is a super chill and understanding professor 10/10 recommend! Easy A!
This is a great course, strongly recommend! Dr. Verrone is very insightful and is a fantastic instructor! It's not often that I find a history course to be refreshing and fun to attend. He has a natural ability to connect to his students, and is dedicated to his student's success. Be prepared to read a lot! And go to lectures because it's worth it.
Dr. V is by far one of the best teachers I have ever had in my life. If you put in the work, pay attention in class, and show effort you will do well in this class. You have to read what he tells you to do well in class, but if you need help, don't hesitate to reach out because he is willing to help!!
The best professor at texas tech. PERIOD
Great class!!
Professor Verone has an incredible personality and is very raw and authentic! He speaks to his class as if we are all friends. He does not use powerpoints, the board, or lecture notes - therefore attending lecture is important. He spends majority of class time speaking on things that are not relevant to the lecture though.
I had Verrone for Hist. 2301 and it was a great class, basically an easy A. This semester I decided to take his 2300; it was like night and day. All of the exams/projects are in essay format. Verrone never talks about history, just about himself which is great until you have a pop quiz over the material you never learned. Don't recommend!
Verrone is your best bet for history, I'd take him again. Pros: he's funny and knows the material very well, but will look for "the why's" in your essay, not the regurgitation of facts and dates, and he's easily accessible. Nice guy. Cons: you have to read 3 books, write a ton (there is no multiple choice), and the exams cover a lot of content.
good guy
Dr. Verrone is a good professor and his class was interesting. He can kinda go off topic and his pop quizzes often include material he did not mention. I also had a very hard time getting ahold of the TA to make up work and she never gave me the notes from missed lectures even when I had documentation for those absences.
Cool guy, easy class with lots of corners to cut if you know basic history. Reading books sucks but whatever. His non history ramblings are hit or miss, can either make the class chill or miserably boring.
Dr. V is the BEST! go to his class if you wanna actually learn history and have fun while doing it. FUNNIEST PROFESSOR AT TECH! It is an EASY A+ if you attend letures and read the three books he assigns. However, you will struggle immensely to pass if you don't attend lectures and actually read the books- so keep that in mind.
Dr. V. is amazing. I had him in HIST 2300 and I am taking HIST 2301 with him again this semester. He genuinely cares about his students and wants them to do well. He is incredibly humble and makes history fun to learn. However, your grade will suffer if you do not attend class, read the books, or try to improve your writing.
Going to Dr. Verrone's class was seriously the highlight of my week. He lectures but its not like a normal lecture he tells it like a story with very descriptive detail and it's really easy to follow along and actually learn. He does have some pretty strict rules like not allowing phones but I personally loved that because it was like a getaway.
Dr. V is an amazing professor who truly cares about his students. He also has a great passion for history and really knows what he's talking about. He loves to get to know his students personally, and he is very understanding and accommodating to everyone. Get ready to read! If you take his honors section, there is a lot of reading involved.
Great lectures never missed a day not because attendance was mandatory but because they were entertaining lectures. Read the books you are assigned if you don't that's three quizzes with a bad grade.
idk how he has all these good reviews because he is a horrible proffessor
JUST RUDE AND HAS NO RESPECT
He talks to you for lectures and doesn't use a power point, but will provide a lecture outline. He changed our two pop quizzes to online extra credit, and did one extra credit assignment which will bump your grade up by a good amount. He's funny and asks a lot of questions and wants to hear from his students, overall good professor!
This is my favorite professor of all time. He will tell funny personal stories and he teaches with passion. He has some stricked rules like a no phone rule but thats the worse of it. He will try to get to know you and make a class of 200 feel like a class of 20.
Dr. V has been the best history teacher I have ever had! His lectures are very interesting and he is always willing to help you. You NEED to read to get a good grade. He is an amazing professor!!!!
Best History Teacher I have had not afraid to call on students his lectures are really entertaining
3 book quizzes (these matter because there aren't weekly assignments) don't mess around with that. The 1 midterm was graded toughly by TAs. Final exam exemption rewards those who actually tried. Teaches lectures to be understandable & enjoyable. Attendance will dock your grade. Don't get caught with a phone. Will be taking him again for 2301.
This class doesn't have a lot of assignments, but it's not too hard to pull off the reading quizzes (I got an A on all three and never actually finished the books). His lectures are pretty good when he's actually lecturing, but his class has a lot of fluff; sometimes, I wish he would stick to the lecture. All together not a bad class, doable.
This class was v difficult at first. Make sure when ur reading the books u look for details. U need them when u take the quizzes. Besides that, he was alright. Super nice and responds quick to emails. A little off sometimes with his humor but pretty cool dude. Make sure to do the extra credit he gives around Nov.. saved me by a letter! Good luck!
he is the best professor I have ever had, his tests are all short answer lecture base but personally I like it better because he tries to give you as much credit in each question as possible. if you have an a in his class by the end of the semester you are exempt from his final. So many extra credit oportunities and he really wants you to succeed.
Very easy to understand lectures and funny aswell. Get ready for lots of reading and book quizes quite often which are all open ended responses. Has many TA's which will be the ones grading your papers/ tests, they grad pretty tough. Proffesor Verrone himself is a caring professor and cares about each students success. Attend office hours!
Verrone is an amazing professor and really cares about his students! He responds fast to emails and respects his students and their time! He really cares about your grade. That being said, read the book well and attend lectures and you will likely get an A!
Dr. Verrone is an amazing prof. I took him last semester and at first I thought the tests were a little hard considering they're all free response ?'s. At the end of the semester he gives out so much extra credit. He really cares a lot about history and actually made me want to learn. NO PHONES, and can only miss 1 class since it's a T/TH class.
LOTS of reading. Short answer tests. Challenging but he was all worth it. This professor will change your life. He is the most supportive and inspiring professor I have ever had. He grades hard, but he will help you if you go to talk to him. He is one of those professors that you'll want to keep in touch with after.
On the first day of class when he introduces his teaching styles, you're going to want to drop the class. But trust me all the insane rules he has are 100% worth it. There are 3 books we had to read throughout the year that have a quiz attached. The books are small (and honestly there are ways around not reading). He is a rly fun and amazing prof.
Great guy, super funny. Saw someone call him racist in the review, I mean I never felt uncomfortable and I'm a POC. No textbooks necessarily, but there are novels we read and book quizzes. Not a class I am stressed for. Meet during his office hours and he'll be sure to help you out.
Professor Verrone is engaging and passionate about the material. Though the tests are challenging, he offers ample extra credit opportunities. For study prep, utilizing resources like unstuck study AI alongside the textbook and class notes can be very helpful.
Dr. Verrone is an alright teacher, a little full of himself. He does not grade and barely reads any of the exams himself so make sure you know your TA's teaching style. All exams are essay style and I had extreme trouble with them even though I read the books assigned. Even after talking to the TA about my grade I still had issues.
Dr. Verrone is so funny and cares deeply about the success of his students. If you're okay with writing and no hw this class is for you.
He's a great professor, no textbook but there's about 3 books that he makes you read. As long as you read it or at least the spark notes you will pass the quizzes. All tests and quizzes are in essay format, except 2 pop quizzes mid semester. 10/10 would take again.
Dr. V is one of my fav's at Tech. Yes as most of the ratings say he will get off on tangents. But if you go to class, listen to him, read the books, and participate you will do just fine
Verrone is the most caring professor I have ever had, and truly wants to see everyone succeed in his class. If you struggle, meeting with him will help you incredibly. He likes to have a relaxed class and truly wants to see everyone in his class become better after you finished. 10/10 Love the guy.
I took the honors section of 2301. You have to read 3 books over the course of the year that heave 3 corresponding quizzes, it's not that hard if you just do the reading though. He is very understanding as long as you communicate with him. If you go to his office hours or email then he is very willing to help you.
Best professor on campus!
Truly loved taking from Dr Verrone. He is passionate about what he teaches and genuinely cares about his students' success! Attendance is mandatory, but since he is such a charismatic person and doesn't use slides, it's pretty easy to want to show up. All tests are written, but if you read the book, you will be fine.
Sometimes unorthodox, but he really cares about students succeeding and enjoying his class while also learning what happened in history. He can be very funny and is truly one of the best professors I've had.
