He loves Hemmingway. Good experience.
Although the class can be dull at times, Victor's workload is not too overwhelming. There is always extra credit available. Hardest part is the midterm/final.
I am currently taking his summer course. Even though its a 730am class, I amazingly attend due to his passionate interest in Hemingway and his deep and analytic focus on literary symbolism. He is a professor of many colors, and students will learn lots!
I'm taking his class right now. All i can say is that i learned many things in Mr. Victor's class. He says he does not like Hemingway as a person but he finds it interesting to analyze Hemingway's works...I agree.
He is a great teacher with a lot of insite on Hemingway. He does give a lot of extra credit, which is very nice. If you do the work it will not be a hard class. I actually had a lot of fun, he is a pretty cool teacher.
He is easy if you can handle all the work. He is really organized and you basically know what you are going to do everyday. It is pretty boring work if youre not a big english fan. Don't take during the summer, TOO MUCH WORK!!!!
I honestly thought i was a pretty good writer till i took Professor Victor's English 1B class. I was shocked because,I learned so much more in his class. He is a hard grader, but you will leave an expert in writing and discussing literary work.
Super cool professor! He has a sense of humor, too! His work is very detailed sometimes, which helps to learn better. Library exercises will improve research techniques. Fan of Hemingway (who is seriously awesome). You won't regret taking his class. :)
Prof. Victor is an amazing teacher and a very cool guy. He has an interesting way of teaching and he is very enthusiastic about his students. I have learned many new things. He gives so much extra credit that everyone should get A's. No regets!!
Professor Victor is a tough grader, but you learn through it. There's extra credit to help make up for lost points. Everyone should become a better writer after this course.
He can be nice and funny at times but when it comes to grading hes extremely hard to please.
I enjoyed his class very much. He is a very helpful and dedicated teacher, who cares about the student. Very organized, there is never any area of confusion at all. I learned much in this class and highly recommend Mr. Victor.
An excellant teacher for the aspiring writer or literature lover. Not exactly the teacher for people who hate English. Very enthusiastic and knowledgable. I learned more than I ever knew I could at Saddleback and inspired me to major in English.
Very friendly, nice, informative. I learned a lot in this class, but had quite a hard time with his essays - very specific in expectations. Definately an enjoyable class.
He makes you work for your grade. Tough grader but lots of extra credit. Take his class if you want to become an excellent writer, hurry up he is retiering soon.
This class was pretty difficult. Maybe if I would have taken him for english 1a it would have been easier, but because i had a not so hot english 1a teacher, it made this class very hard. a good teacher though, you'll learn a lot, but its also hard work
Doesn't explain what he wants
He is a tough grader, but you will learn a lot. I wish I took his English 1A class, because he expects you to know a lot and half the material I did not learn in English 1A. There is a lot of extra credit.
Challenging, but in a good way.
A challenging class, but worth every minute. Professor Victor is very organized and places emphasis on clarity. Try to sign up for the Spring semester because Professor Victor will be retiring.
AVOID!!!!
Hard grader but lots of opportunities for extra credit. Expectations pretty clear. Some subjectivity in grading. More emphasis on comp than lit in the papers; tests difficult but more about familiarity w/text than explication.
Has extremely high expectations, however, is clear in what he looks for, generous enough to give you the grading sheet. However, still difficult to please this man! That aside, he is so full of information, I am now a Hemingway lover because of him!
His class is challenging. Mostly because directions are unclear. Only take him if you already excel in English. Great teacher though. Will have you writing at levels you never thought possible. The most valuable class I've ever taken.
FUNNY ENTERTAINING GUY, YET SUPER HARD GRADER. KEEPS YOU ON YOUR TOES WITH HIS GRADING AND REQUIREMENTS, HE SETS HIGH EXPECTATIONS FOR THE WORK HE MAKES YOU DO. CHALLENGING YET DEFINETLY WORTH TAKING THIS CLASS.
Good class. He grades super hard, but it's definately constructive grading, with every oppurtunity to learn and make progress. Although some of his assignments are initially confusing in their complexity, they are by no means impossible.
Incredibly intelligent guy. super tough grader but you learn so much from him. i'm a much better writer because of his class. in terms of your grade, he gives plenty of extra credit, so no need to worry.
He is a tough grader, although you learn skill that will last a lifetime. He also gives plenty of extra criedit, making it is easy to get an A.
All around a good teacher. Offers plenty of opportunities for extra credit, so as long as you do your work it's very hard to fail his class. He's always willing to help his students, and his lectures are always interesting. I never fell asleep at all.
Very clear on what is expected. Provides ample oppurtunitites for extra points. Offers a lot of help on formulating term papers.
Wow! An english teacher with insight into what he's teaching. This chap is awesome and provides lots of background information on the course. Take him!
Professor Victor’s stimulating and insightful lectures help students focus on requirements for transfer. The class is extremely challenging, due to his anal retentive nature. After completing his 1B Honors class, with an A, I am ready to transfer to a uni
very witty and charming : ) makes everyone laugh. if you find hemingway boring, dont take this class
You will learn a lot in this class. Fun teacher. Lots of chance for extra credit.
He is very traditional and macho and seems to like Hemingway for the same reasons.... I learned from his tough standards but his attitudes and rambling personal reminscinces during lectures were hard to get past.... however he has his moments of decency
Appears very hard, but really isnt that bad.
Essays are difficult if you are not familiar with TRIE sequencing, lecture notes will be helpful for exams (know EVERYTHING about the authors, even if he didn't mention it in class), lots of extra credit opportunities, interesting anecdotes
Stay away, posts are not accurate, test, quizzes, papers are impossible. If you can identify 70 lines w/appropriate author, go ahead and take him, no one in his class can. HARD, way too hard. Care about GPA, then AVOID this prof.
He's very smart, hard class, but I survived with his help.
If you want to improve your writing skills you should take Prof. Victor. You'll moan and groan over his detailed assignments, but if you arent a wimp, you'll get through it and learn more than you've ever learned in an English class before.
I think the most difficult class I ever had but I still recommend him. It's gonna be hard and the essays are gonna make you kill yourself but Victor helps u with the extra credit. He's kinda weird. But with the extra credit I got an A didn't need thefinal
The most challenging course I've taken at Saddleback. The degree of difficulty can make you want to give up at times, but I must say Victor's the only professor I've had that I can give a lot of credit to -- I'd expect professors like him at the UC level.
professor victor is someone you want to teach you. ignore the rumors hat he is impossible because he is not! he offers a lot of extra credit and you WILL become a better writer by taking his class. if a UC is in your future, take victor's class!
Dropped his class by 2nd week. Avoid him if possible. I'm not really a complainer about professors, but something about this guy's class I just couldn't stand. If you need someone to kick your butt to prepare you fo a UC, take him I guess.
He really is not that hard. He is clear on what he expects in his papers and pays attention to detail. However there is nothing left uncertain in his class and many times students don't even need to take the final to get an A. Best English teacher by far!
He taught me to write essays before taking Enlish 1A and though he expects the best and always room for improvement, don't get dicouraged by his red pen on your essays...I have learned more in his class than any other on writing and literature, very helfu
Organized. Well read. Demanding. Prepares you for the real world outside Saddleback's cocoon. Treats you like an adult. Forces you to be prepared. Don't be late. You'll miss the quizzes. Uses Point system/extra credits, may not need to take final for A
One of the nicest professors at Saddleback College. I have learned more in this class than all my previous english classes combined. He prepares his students well for transfering to a four year university. He challenges you to do your best. He offers lots of extra creadit. If you try, you will do wel
his wife at capo valley high school is the worst teacher ever
He's the EXTRA CREDIT KING!!! I loved his class. Victor is very passionate about what he's teaching. You'll learn a lot of history, too. Assignments and grading are fair for an Honors class. Wonderful Teacher!!!
I enjoyed his class even though i do not care for english. In my opinion he borders on genius. It was a pleasure to take his class and will be doing so next semester.

Good teacher, he's a hard grader but he makes up for it with a lot of extra credit (I'm getting extra credit 4 writing this!) Do all the assignments and the extra credit and you'll have a good grade.
Professor Victor is the greatest english professor you will ever have at Saddleback.I have learn more in his class than all my previous english classes at Saddleback and probably high school combined.I never realized how much more I could learn in a english class. I highly recommend him as a teacher
Professor Victor is by far my favorite English teacher I have learned alot form him. He was very clear on assignments and was always ready to help. One draw back is the amount of points in the class (107), but he does make up for it by giving E.C. Very stimulating class! Glad I didn't drop.
He hates bad grammar, slackers, and empty verbs. However, 96% of the class recieved an A the past semester, and it would seem everyone will most likely earn an A in my class. The other thing I like about his teaching is that I was forced to learn a lot about grammar, which will prove very usefull.
Tough but fair. Dont leave after you see library exercise one it gets easier after that.
to be honest, the first few weeks of class I wasnt sure if I was going to like Victor's teaching style. But once I was formilar with the class vocab, I started to really appreciate his style. I have learned more in his class than all others combined. He is an awsome teacher. If your smart, take him!
Was a tough class for me but I did learn a lot about writing and how to write a strong essay. He teaches you to develop your own writing style which will be most beneficial later on in my english courses. It is a tough class but if you stick through it the class gets better after assignment number 1
Professor Victor was a challenging teacher and I was somewhat afraid at the start of the term. However, he is very clear with his expectations and rewards you for doing well. Take this class if UC is in your future.
Victor was tough but fair in his grading. dont be afraid of the class for the term papers are not that bad and try your best and you will be happy with the grade you get.
Though writing an essay weekly was daunting at times, I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and feel I've acquired much from R. Victor's class. The ease of work was only challenging intellectually; there was abundant extra credit and I achieved an A easily, even as a student who rarely studies. Thanks!

Well, we know they read this--can't help that. But if he is, I would like to state that as brilliant as this expert may be, I would assume he would be smart enough to explain thoroughly. People, you have never been and never will be lost until you take his classes. Save yourself trouble and explain!
I don't know what's goin on, but every assignment is quizzical. I'm totally puzzled all of the time. This guy must get questions regarding simple things all the time.
He will give you the puzzle pieces (probably leaving some out purposely) but will not let you see the picture to be formed.
I had to drop! My first class in two years, and I had to drop it, because of his problem in clarity.
I had to drop the class - very difficult for me and I love English. Was considering it as my major. Most people liked him, I think my learning style just conflicted with his teaching style. Nice professor, but not for me. If you're looking for a real challenge, though, you won't be disappointed.
Get out while you can!!! :(
i don't know what i got myself into. i really messed up this time, enrolling into his class.
i wish the "very unclear" part on top went into negative numbers.
Expect a challenge. This is not the class to take if you don't want to learn. If you are having trouble, do the extra credit. You should come out with a B, and you may not have to take the final. Your grade depends on you. You can talk to him if you don't understand something.
Dude, the professor probably wrote what is below, because there is no way a student will say such a lie about the most confusing human in the world. If you can, take another class, or just suffer from being puzzled all semester and getting an undeserving grade in the end, truthfully.
Yup, I took him twice. I don't know what everyone is complaining about. He was the best English teacher I ever had in my life. I got two A's and I never considered myself a good writer. He taught me how to write. You are missing out!
He's a nice guy and wants you to do well. His class is borning and he barely explains assingments. Need friends. However, offers tons of extra credit. He has dumb requirements on your writting that you must follow in order to get good grades on the 2 papers. Easier and less homework than Stevenson. Do your work, go to class, do extra credit = A.
Very Demanding. Extremely punctual, class clock stolen several times. You feel out of breath, like you are just spinning your wheels, going nowhere. Assumes you already understand the frustrating assignments, even the Saddleback librarians dread them. Forces you to follow only his style. No creativity allowed. Offers extra credit though. Do it.
When I started the class I felt completely lost until about a month into it. He is a tough grader and if you are not prepared to put in the time to get a good grade, you wont. I got an A through hard work, listening closely and reading the critiques he writes on your essays! Be prepared or I would definitely take another class!
I'm going to take him for 1B. He is kind of hard. You only need 90 points to get an A, but there are more than 100 points in the class. He gives quite a bit of extra credit. Do it and you should come out with a decent grade. Ask him questions; he will answer!

Two words for you all: Ambiguous and Vague. No matter what class you have him for, YOU WILL GO DOWN, BROTHER! HE WILL TAKE YOU DOOOOWWWWNNNNNNN!
Makes it seem that he is easy in the beginning, then your 1st essay comes back. Boy let me tell you, picky, picky, picky. He just wants in his way, in his words, or not points, There is no thinking outside of the box in this class. Oh, and the tests, watch out- hell. Quotes that even if you memorized the book you still would not get. Guess a lot!
Although it is difficult to get perfect scores on tests/essays, he offers more than enough easy extra credit to compensate. Sometimes the class is not interesting, but that is probably due to the three hour summer session lesson.
Professor Victor is GREAT, although i have to admit I dont agree with his grading techniques, but he is very enthusiastic and clearly loves his work which makes his class entertaining. This is a very difficult class to take during the summer, very accelerated, way too much information to learn. I recomend taking his class during a normal semester.
I am majoring in English- and am very picky about English literature. This professor made it interesting and tied so much information together. I really enjoyed him, his animation and his extra effort. He's hard, but worth it- if anything, just to get ideas about when I'm teaching in the future.
This class was tough but I learned a lot. The guy really cares about english and all the authors, as well as writing well and having good grammer. I suggest keeping up with readings to maximize one's potential.
There is alot of work to be done int eh class in a short amount of time. But if one just tries they can pass the class without stressing too bad. Just pay attention and don't miss a class.
He is very unclear and expects you to do everything exactly as he wants. The things he teaches (writing style and requirements) are not necessary in a University setting nor in the real world. Also a very boring class.
Go to class, turn in all the papers, take all the tests and you should be okay. His exams can be pretty rough, but there is plenty of opportunity for Extra Credit.
Picky professor, very specific on what he wants. Otherwise very knowledgeable.
I cannot believe what I am reading here. He makes it so easy to get an A it's almost not fair. His assignments are challenging, but he makes up for it with a ridiculous amount of EC. I got Cs on both papers, didn't turn in half the homework, didn't take the final, and still pulled a B. With one shred of effort I could have gotten an A.
He gives a lot of extra credit but is extremely picky.Writing doesnt need any style, just put whatever he wants and you will do better. He wants everything p his way, yet he is slightly unclear. He is set in his ways for ex. you cant use is, be, this or utilize in your writing!!!!! hes nice but if you want to learn his way then you will.
at 1st it seems like its a lot, but its really not. he only has 10 hw assignments, 2 essays, & a midterm & final. every test is open book, open note, and open poster (cause he has posters on the walls of everything u need to know) and he gives extra credit practically every day. pretty much impossible to fail. easier honors class than high school
He does give many opportunities for extra credit. and you must attend every class. The only problem with this class is that no one else outside of himself teaches the things he teaches. trust me- there are two other honors teachers. save yourself the headache and take a teacher who wont waste your time.
He makes it fairly easy to get an A, but you have to do the work. However, he provides some very useful information.
the people that talk bad about prof. Victor either didn't go to class or were just lazy. he makes it almost immpossible to not get an A. the papers are really tough and it's his way or the highway but if you put in the time and effort you will be rewarded. the extra credit is limitless. i got a 96 without the final. if you want to learn take him.
I got 101pts without the final. Do the extra credit and you'll be fine. Must listen to his instructions on the MLA stuff--make sure to buy the book and keep it handy. Turn papers in early and do a poster.
I hated English before his class. But, he read my work and was interested in my career plans. He gave me feedback on how to become a better writer. He did more than teach English, he inspired me to take up writing professionally. Now, that's priceless.
He is knowledgable in his subject he teaches (not to mention obsessed with Hemmingway). But his expectations are extremely high for the honors class. He come across as confusing and overwhelming and no one will be able to explain it to you (not even the librarians). He is somewhat notorious for ridiculous "research" assignments.
i had to drop because of his lack of clarity. I'm actually really good with english but he was rediculous. I didn't understand an assignment and he didn't give time to explain it to me. hes just in his own little world. seriously, dont take his class. you'll regret it.
i took him for 1A and 1B honors and i loved him..he gives a lot of extra credit and i got A's in both classes...you have to do a lot of work and reading but you will learn how to write a paper in his own style and use u ahve to buy his workbook..very intersting prof! lk my grandpa :)
Really a useless teacher. He himself is knowledgeable, but he cannot impart his knowledge to another living soul. Do NOT take this class if you want to maintain your GPA. Avoid at all costs. You'll remember my words after your first day in his class.
Took him for 1B. I've always been excellent in English, but compared to other teachers, he grades much differently. Although he does offer tons of extra credit, it barely makes up for his crazy grading. You have to write how he likes it, otherwise you wont pass. This is NOT an easy professor or an easy A. Save your GPA. Take another professor.
Hard Class. He's nice and he's very smart, knows a lot. but he is SO unclear with what he wants you to do. very hard grader. offers a lot of extra credit though. I wouldnt take it. hard to get an A. take another english teacher and get an A.
I can't believe that this guy actually teaches English! He is very unclear with his instructions & expects the world of his students. He forces you to grade in his ridiculous format that asks way too much; otherwise, he will ruin your grade, even if you do absolutely every assignment, & maintain perfect attendance. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR.
I don't understand why people say he's not clear;he's got his assignments mapped out to a T. They're not too long, they just take longer than expected. The papers? He tells you exactly what he's looking for and breaks down where the points will be awarded. I turned in all my papers late, but I did the easy EC and didn't even have to take the final.
The class is challenging but very helpful. If you want to become a better writer, taking this course will guarantee you will improve. Professor is willing to work with you, funny, and passionate. Again, the course is challenging so if you dont want to work it might not be the best for you. If you enjoy english it is excellent.
This class is definitely challenging. He really knows his stuff, however sometimes his directions may be very vague. On the other hand, his class is enjoyable and the handouts are specific to the T! His grading system is a little weird but offers alot of extra credit. I have no idea how I am doing. My grade can range from a F-A (thats how weird his
I disagree with the average saddleback student who claims this professor is unorganized and hard. He gives you a detialed shcedule of each class period on the first day. He grades hard but his extra credit garentees a passing grade. It takes effort but your writing skills are sure to excell. Take Victor!
He gives a deleted syllabus the first day, as well as essay examples. During class, which usually bores me, he talks about what he specifically wants to see in your assignments as well as what to expect the next class. He is fairly easy, advocating the "Saddleback try." Although he concentrates on grammar, he offers extra credit by the pound.
he does give a layout for the class, but his directions sometimes are unclear. He doesn't ever repeat himself, so make to listen the first time. Down to earth guy. A little bit too old school. he would be my second pick. def not bad though. He just needs to repeat himself more often for those times that you are dosing off.
He could not be more clear with what he expects as far as his syllabus goes. He does offer a challenge which may scare some lazy students off but in the end it is certainly worth the effort. This class has greatly improved my writing. His grading structure offers a guaranteed A as long as you are willing to try.
Victor is a really nice man. A lot of his directions can be unclear, but he is more than willing to answer any and all questions. The essays are difficult in that there are a lot of guidelines. The class is more helpful than I thought it was going to be. Victor offers a lot of Extra Credit. This is VITAL for this class. Do all of it!
Very nice and understanding teacher, gives clear intructions so you know what to expect, offers lots of extra credit, strict but helpful.
great guy, one of the most entertaining professors i've had but in a good way. the syllabus is perfectly clear, don't miss class so you can do all the extra credit quizzes and assignments. the ec is vital. but if you listen and do as instructed, you will be successful. my writing has greatly improved, thank you professor victor.
Not only is he a good teacher, but a generally kind and whitty person. He is extremely passionate about the material he teaches and provides useful tools to enhance your writing technique. I wish he taught more classes at Saddleback. Do the extra credit, there is no reason not to!!! his directions are step by step... just follow them!!!
Prof. Victor is one of the best instructor that I encountered. I don't care about why you people kept on prattling regarding to his clarity. All you had to remember is the TRIE sequence for writing along with some MLA styles. Perhaps y'all need to ask the librarian for help. I got 96% without ec in his Eng Lit summer class. Take with him.
i took victors english 1B honors class and it was challenging, but i learned a lot. hes a super nice guy and always willing to help you, he wants you to do well. its simple... do the work right and get an A!
He's a great professor. I really learned a lot from his class. He's a hard grader, but do as much of the extra credit as possible and you'll do fine. I recommend taking him if you want to learn.
Victor is one of the most knowledgeable people I have ever met. I took him for both Eng 17B and Eng 1B and aced both. Follow all his instructions, read and show interest and you'll do great. So much extra credit available! I adore this man!
Excellent Professor. Probably the best you can find at Saddleback. Improved my writing 3 fold, still use the techniques today. Just do the work on time and show up for class to take the extra credit quizzes (you can get about 10% extra credit from them) which will make this class an easy A/B.
Great professor because he cares about the topic and actually knows what he's talking about. If you need help, ask him after class and he will definitely help you. He is pretty clear about what he wants, but sometimes needs clarification. Eng1B is NOT an easy class, but if you're a good student you will definitely do well. LOTS of extra credit
He's not very clear on some stuff, but if u show up and pay attention you'll do fine. Offers so much Extra Credit. I had to work so hard for an A. Victor improved my writing tenfold and I still use his techniques today. He hates empty verbs and passives. Open book/notes/computer tests/midterms. Likes Hemingway, symbols, and allusions. Learned alot
One of the best professors I ever had. I improved my writing skills dramatically. Challenging class in a good way. Fun, witty and great teaching.
Hands down, the best English teacher I have ever had. My writing skills increased dramatically, and I learned a whole bunch of new styles. He tells you exactly what you need to do to get an A, and provides like 15+% of your grade in extra credit. Put in the work and you'll get an A no problem
He really loves English. Super picky with grading. Offers a lot of extra credit and the class is only 100 points. Managed to get an A but you have to work for it. Really knows his stuff.
Very good teacher, knows what he is talking about, and always answers all your questions. The class is quite a bit of work, but he offers a ton of extra credit, so as long as you keep on top of everything you can earn an A.
Frailties: verbal instructions plagued by mistakes/omissions; denies italicizing book titles has been MLA-approved for years; Judeo-Christian tradition-centric. Demands precision. Perks: no PhD, but is an educated man. Formulaic paragraph structure (TRIE) is great to fall back on. Grades for blood, but w/ plenty of extra credit to soften the blow.
For an Honors Class, I have not found his class to be as difficult as I thought it was going to be. Don't be afraid to ask questions, he's really nice. The extra credit he offers really helps your grade. Try to sign up to turn in all your papers early. Midterm is open note/book/laptop. Claims to follow his syllabus exactly but sometimes deviates.
Grades hard, but extra credit helps. Take every chance he gives you to do extra credit and you'll end up with a grade high enough to skip the final and still get an A
Pros: Victor offers enough extra credit to a point that you can float through the class on mediocre grades and receive an 'A.' Cons: His grading is blatantly subjective to his personal style, and his infatuation with Hemingway is unnerving at best. Furthermore, he is supremely inflexible and the class is chock full of high school-style busy work.
Every Monday we were given a quiz for extra credit. The points really added up. He's a really hard grader when it comes to essays but really willing to help you get a good grade.
A nice guy, but his lectures are hard to follow, and he can be vague or unclear about assignments. Grades a little more harshly than I think he should, and is sometimes biased in his definition of literary terms. He offers enough extra credit to reasonably pull a low A or high B, but you have to show up to class.
For an Honors class I thought the class more intense. But Professor Victor was mostly clear on what he wants on his assignments and essays. I didn't think he graded too hard, just write the essays the way he wants it. I did that and got an A and didn't need to take the prefinal and final. Plus all the extra credit add up. Easy A and learned a lot.
HE IS AWFUL! Who in the world thought he was a decent teacher? SO SO SO confused, he speaks his own language and needs to get a CLUE.
Wants things done precisely his way! As long as you follow the directions you have an A. Gives lots of extra credit and you learn a lot along the way. I loved the class and the professor. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT.
Professor Victor has been one of my favorite professors at Saddleback. He offers so much extra credit that it is impossible to not get an A or B. His grading is difficult, but if you do extremely poor on an essay he will give you the chance to clean it up and turn it in for a better grade. He really cares about his students& wants them to succeed
I took this class, thinking that I would like it after reading reviews. NOPE. He rambles on about things, is super nit-picky about all assignments and extra credit assignments, & can be a bit cocky. He can be funny sometimes, but it gets old. 50% of the class dropped. Do yourself a favor &take a different teacher. Pros: Tons of extra credit.
I've gotten two weeks into this class and so far the teacher has not come to class once. Instead he has issued a substitute teacher who does not know what she is doing. She has been so unclear and doesn't follow his syllabus which has all of his assignments and their due-dates. So, did I sign up for a substitute or a teacher?
He finally got back from being in the hospital, and he gave us our extra credit assignments. What he's asking for is SO confusing. My mind is spinning! I have absolutely no idea what I'm supposed to do with what he gave us, and the ex. is supposed to be the good part. He seems like a nice guy, I just wish he were less confusing about what he wants!
To those trying to find a good class to get through, I would not suggest Professor Victor. In theory he is a nice guy, but unfortunately, he is extremely difficult to understand, and is super nit-picky. He gives extra credit, but even that is difficult to understand sometimes. I would not suggest him as a teacher.
He is a nice guy, but he is very confusing and the structure of the class is unlike any other English class I've ever had in my educational career. Leaves me stressed out and the point system is also odd. Thankfully lots of extra credit, the only hope of getting an A in the class is if you do all of it. Tough grader as well, but willing to help.
My absolute favorite English Professor. The way the course is organized is kind of confusing but he is really knowledgeable and its insightful to listen to him. I really love how passionate he is about what he does and just how he talks about Hemingway, I actually started to like Hemingway because of the class. You better be a good writer though!
Professor Victor is a well-educated elderly man with English literature being his passion. I understand the difficulty some students are having with comprehending & following along in the class but with so much extra credit provided it almost seems unrealistic to fail his class. Without a doubt, Professor Victor is a brilliant man. Do extra credit.
I learned to write a better paper by avoiding the usage of empty verbs, which greatly improve the concision and word-choice of my writing.
He is a hard grader when it comes to grading essays but once you follow his methods of writing the essays he wants it gets a little easier. He gives a lot of extra credit which helps your grade
Professor Victor is passionate about teaching and I learned a lot. This class can be stressful because it is confusing when the assignments are due. Overall, it is a good class to take.
Professor Victor's class can be difficult because of his high standards. However, his high standards have the capability to enchance your writing skill tremendously. He assigns a lot of extra credit opportunities and I suggest you do as much as possible.
Change the guild line on Ernest Hemingway but gives a buch of point to pass his class
Victor is very confusing and does not explain the assignments but overall, the class is very easy. Just do all the extra credit and turn in assignments early for extra points and its an easy A. Also, try and have perfect attendance, there is extra credit quizzes offered and perfect attendance points.
His class is easy as long as you pay attention and do the work. There are 4 assignments and 4 essays. He offers a lot of extra credit, so it's not hard to get an A. He is super helpful and made me a better writer. Highly recommend you take his class.
I'm writing this review after having graduated UCLA. Professor Victor was the single most influential and helpful professor in all my college education. His teachings (how to write/structure properly) helped me breeze through essays at UCLA and are serving me immensely in my career now. Not the easiest class, but definitely the most valuable.
Overall, an easy class to pass. However, do not plan a class directly after his as he has no concept of time and will hold you back by 5 minutes every class.
Excellent teacher. The honors eng 1b course is difficult, but if you follow his instructions and do extra credit assignments its a straightforward A. Plus, you'll learn to write much more concisely and clearly. And Hemingway is now one of my favorite writers!
Super nice guy, but I found his class pretty difficult. He designs the quizzes so you do not pass them. I took him thinking it would be an easy A. NO. The EC makes up for failed quizzes. Old-fashioned. Take him, but be prepared to put in work
One of the most challenging courses I've taken at Saddleback. He's been teaching for nearly half a century, so he definitely knows his stuff. If you feel like you've stagnated in your writing, this man will challenge you like no other. Though difficult, this class has vastly improved my writing and I highly recommend it.
Victor is a good teacher. He will push you to the next level and give you an easy A if you put in the work. There are a million and a half extra credit projects, so you can always offset a bad grade. Sometimes he is a little vague orally on assignments, but he has everything laid out in a monster of a syllabus. Class assignments are weird but fun
Hes AWESOME! Extremely caring, and truly wants to see his students succeed! Be prepared to read A LOT. The quizzes are open note, however they're still difficultso study. Theres weekly assignments, and 4 essays throughout the semester (around 4-6pgs). He does offer a mass amount of extra credit, so theres really no excuse to fail.
Professor Victor's class was one of the best that I have ever taken. His insight and knowledge inspires me to become a better writer. He enjoys answering questions and truly wants to help all students. He also offers a great deal of extra credit. I highly recommend this course. - Andrew Hout
I thought Prof. Victor was a very brilliant man himself and a very good teacher! He had a different way of teaching his material but once you pick up on it it was easy to follow. Coming to class is definitely important and mandatory. Take him if you can. Worth the class! -Samoine Martin
Professor Victor is extremely helpful and fishes for reasons to give you points. He loves giving extra credit so take advantage of every opportunity. He is a little hard to follow sometimes, but he makes it very clear when everything is due and how he wants it done.
Alright, yes, Professor Victor is a little scattered in his lessons. But he's one of the few teachers that actually cares about whether or not you learn the material. He cares more about your comprehension than your grade and he will work with you to help you pass. That is a quality that is difficult to find in a professor. I would recommend him.
It's easy to see that Victor is a nice person, but that doesn't mean he's a good teacher. He seems to be stuck in the past, everything has to be written in a typewriter looking font and is mainly on Hemingway. His directions are not clear, making everything extremely stressful. His quizzes have tricks questions, and the classes always ended late.
He is a kind man, full of life, and love for literature. He shares a close bond with his icon, Ernest Hemingway, and expects us to respect his work, even if you don't agree with it. Sure his lectures are long and most of the time isn't clear on his instructions, However, he offers more than enough Extra credit to help you pass the class w/ an A.
Professor Victor is a good teacher, and he loves Hemingway stories. But you have to be prepared to read and write because he can grade harshly. However, he gives a lot of extra credit, so it is easier. Our textbook was actually a Hemingway book of short stories.
He relates everything to Hemingway, the Bible, and poetry. Be willing to adapt your writing style to a very lofty/poetic style, or else you won't do well in this class. He is a harsh grader, but offers EC to make up for lost points.
Professor Victor is very particular about how things are done by his students and there isn't a lot of room for creativity (lots of structure to EVERYTHING). However, the class taught me a lot about English language arts and some of the beauties of Hemingway's work (note: he LOVES Hemingway). Lots of opportunities for extra points, but work hard!
Great class and great professor. Very organized and insightful. 4 essays, 5 assignments, midterm, final (may not have to take the final if you do well in the class), and TONS of extra credit, making it impossible not to get an A as long as you put in the work. Professor Victor enhanced my appreciation and knowledge of English.
Le meilleur de tous. J'ai jamais fait un cours aussi cool de ma vie. Pédagogie novatrice. Le prof est super cool. Le cours super intéressant et pas ennuyeux du tout
