Says one thing, means another
Extremely unclear and disorganized
the man is a tight ass with his marks!!
he asks you stuff on his tests that he doesn't teach you about
doesn't answer questions properly, seems oblivious to students concerns
very hard marker...likes to hear himself talk
can someone tell me what a spar is? how about loblars or muck sleep
hard and un-reasonable projects make us crazy and sick!
He does hard time on the weekends.
how is this guy still teaching?
Richard CHALLENGES and inspires - but not for those who want an easy ride...
He is so disrespectful to students
disappointed with this prof. doesn't seem to want to see us succeed
he is so bias...he has prejudice to students
Accomplished. Yes. Flawless. Of course! My hero? Definately Not.
make sure you choose the right people for your group work
Awesome and interesting class teaches us real stuff, seems very knowledgeable
if u can get out of doing this course do it. HORRIBLE!!!!
AHHHHHH........that course was HARD!!!!!!!!!! it should be a one-year course!
Never in his office when he says he will be. Expects u to be an author .
has no clue
demands too much for his projects, and has little teaching skills
When he discovers he's not the centre of the universe, he'll be surprised...
Wade's fav saying I'll have to pat myself on the back ..very full of himself
not very clear at what he wants and should refrain from making rude remarks to students
This man has no concept of the english language. He is a predjudice ****! He really sux! And I mean reeeeeally sux! This course would be better taught by a chimp. And, what the hell are spars?!
Suck it up! The projects are fun and real and prof. wade is there to help you!
He's very picky on his tests. has to be word from word from what he says in class.... his notes?/.. ****.. memorize it you still won't pass...
This prof is a OFOM (read it backwards). He's soo picky on everything. His tests are HARD!! and I mean HARD! short answers are a HCTIB .. if you memorize the notes and write it on the short answer, you'll still get it wrong. he needs to be gone!
HE'S HARD! UNFAIR! DISCOURAGING..... PUTS PEOPLE DOWN AT TIMES.
He's really hard! Tests are hard! and he doesn't make sense when he talks. in other words things he talk about is not relevant to the course.. who cares about his life and job.... we just want to learn and pass this damn course...
hard to understand what he wants. can be nice but made many students in my class feel stupid. if he doesnt understand ur responses to his questions me and my classmates have found he will make u feel stupid by telling u that ur wrong, even if you are not.
DROP it if you have him.. he's hard........... i mean.. you'll end up wasting ur money... trust me...
hate him so much! he's sux! once he forgot his notes he can't talk... what a prof
Bad impression on this proff 'cause yelled at students for checking marks before a course drop deadline. I think it's unfair for the students!
what can i say... you can look at my rate...
so bad. can't lecture without his outdated boring overheads. should stop teaching if he can't be bothered to update his material.
insults students intellegence, treats studuents with no respect as less worthy of life then he is, boring ,notes out dated, methods out dated,he is out dated, please someone in charge take him out of the program he need to retire
he's discouraging! he can't live without his notes...
He is always right your always wrong....not clear on what he wants from the students expecially in projects!! If you can drop his course!!
he is an awful prof. expects participation but has only one answer in mind; if u dun get it, ur stupid. treats students with no respect and makes u feel stupid for trying.
amazing proff but rough around the corners
Big Stupid monkey. This moron is so lazy he uses notes from 4 years ago. And by the way if you don't give the answers he wants then you are considered challanged by his terms. Very negative person, and downgrading, avoid this ass at all costs, I know you have to take his courses good luck all
Any class with this ass is a waste of time and money. Doesnt teach, hates students, slides are old he is old, descriminates, tried hitting on me a couple of times, very nasty old man. I tried filling a complaint but the school did nothing, they didnt beleive me. I wish you all luck in his courses
HELP ! i still have few sems with him. !
my god, just don't want to see his face again!!but can't he is the only prof for htm.....god, school should really hire some new prof!!!
definately need new prof teaching all htm courses and htd500. He's way to difficult for this course. His expectations are way too high. I still don't know why he's still teaching if out of his whole class more than half have failed his courses. his courses discourage students.
Can't stand his arrogance and his self praising. He needs to get over himself and learn to eb hunble. Also wih regards to teaching, it's about time he retires because he can never remember conversations, and can never be fair. He's all about favouritism. No wonder everyone fails atleast once with hi
Very practical courses, of which require a lot of hard work. Roll up your sleeves, participate and succeed. He's definitely an asset to the program - all it takes is applying what you already have (those with negative posts may want to reconsider the field they have chosen).
had him years ago for marketing, the course was tough but learned something. to the person who said he hit on them, i'm not surprised he did and that the school did nothing. he is totally **** and needed (at least when i took his course) to upgrade his marking system!
Absolutelly ridiculous!
Very strict, yet informative. He is very detailed oriented which is ridiculous he goes on and on about his accomplishments, etc. Make sure you attend all his classes, don't be afraid to speak up regardless if you think its incorrect. He will give students with better grade if he knows them by name~
This professor should be fired. There should be more prof teaching the marketing courses for hospitality. Wade is way too hard and expects too much from his students. He fails anyone that he does not like. (only likes favorites) (teachers petz). Why is he still teaching..
Wouldn't say he's the best professor in the program. But I agree that the material he teaches is very practical. Just copy all his powerpoints, and memorize them and you should do good in the midterm and exam.
Hard marker. Expects more then what he asks for.
The course material is useful, but the prof needs to go. Why is there only 1 prof for this course? He has favouritism, so get on his good side. He makes you feel stupid in front of the class, so make sure you know what you're talking about. I'd kill myself if I had to take his class again!!
He might know about the industry - but can he teach what he's preaching? Any tiny concept can show up on a test - it's no wonder half the class fails. Don't even get me started on arrogance and favouritism...

he is a ****, likes to fail people with no mercy, loves to see people wil failing grades
Absoutely no one likes him in SHTM (except his class pets). He should be ashamed of himself and retire for the better of the rest. Wade, please go jump out the window.
this gut is not fair, you know what i mean

He is mean, unhelpful, seems happy when you dont succeed, makes fun of students infront of the whole class, he is too oldschool, his testing is intense, and he used the same examples three years in a row... and this from someone who did well... a lot of people failed! He is a jerk, a bad prof, and should retire! Too bad his courses are required!
An old miserable man who gets off on making people fail! I feel sorry for his family in general because of his attitude and lack of caring. He DOES enjoy when people fail...when you answer a question he will tell you that you are wrong even if you are right. Yuck.
I feel so stupid that we're learning 90's marketing concetps. we are way way behind than other universities such as: toronto or laurier. I just wish we can learn up-to-date marketing concepts.
provides no/poor instructions, has unreal expectations, and plays favourites. deducts marks without real justification, loves students who brownnose. wears suits from the 80's.
I don't have a big problem with his lecture but he teaches the course like we are all in a MBA program or something. He is a hard marker. His expectation on the projects are very unrealistic for students which most of us never did a market study before. His instruction in very unclear and not helpful at all when questions are asked.
This class is a waste of my tuition dollars. The class is based around one big project and there is no in class lectures, only one class where you go, get your group, and from there you work with your group to complete a project. There is no teaching that takes place, thus the only learning is how to deal with ambiguity of feedback.
He's not bad at all & you learn something different than hospitality operations. ALSO - you get to learn about team dynamics & interpersonal skills with your market/feasibility study. Overall, very worthwhile.
interesting class and learned a lot.
Wade picks favourites and has double standards for those students. It also seems that when he's teaching, since he's taught this class for nearly a decade, that because he knows it so well, the students should automatically understand everything. NOT THE CASE!!! Horrible teaching method and should retire ASAP!
I got an A in HTH 901, B and B+ in HTM 402 and HTD 500 - but he is past his time. What I learned is how to put together a professional product and how to babysit my groups. he should retire soon. It makes me laugh how people think he is supposed to care about you. its university people get over it!
extremely hard marker, never clarified what he exactly wanted, and the reason why a lot of people drop out of this program at Ryerson.
Has imposible standards and does not clarify exactly what he wants. He has caused 4 people that I know of to drop out of the program. He's a big pain in the butt and totaly imposible.
Vintage &Classic in his dress sense, manners & sadly also his course content. Wade's got a wild side..bump into him @ a party or outside class and he'll have an interesting conversation on anything. With his courses he's demanding, he knows he's not a favorite. Gets you to push yourself to the limit and gets you to be proud of your work.
The worst instructor in Ryerson would be an underestimation for the description of Richard Wade. He is extremely unfair, gives low grades without proper reasoning. On tests/exams asks insignificant details, and not overall knowledge of the material. Does not treat students with respect, often interrupts them. Can't understand why Ryerson keeps him.
Read every single line of the textbook/reader, remember very tiny little details like what company is used in what example. There's a trick to get B or above in the midterm, get along with people who took his courses and you'll know why. Ryerson wouldn't keep him if he's doing nothing good.
hard marker, asks very detailed questions on midterm. willing to help with project.can be boring at times, but helps a lot to go to class regularly!
Ohh Wade, hard marker ! Especially on the projects ! midterm and final VERY detailed oriented!! READ everything most importantly attend his lectures and read the cases in the textbook! Rough time roughhhhhhhhh!!!!
He's tough make no mistake. You must go to every class and do exactly what he says. He is very clear and will tell you what he wants on projects and what to study. Read the textbook and notes thoroughly - even the little mini cases!
Once you finish his 3 courses you are thankful to have had him. His courses are the hardest you can take in the program and it is something you must take head on. Do not take more than 5 courses when taking one of his classes. HTD500 is by far the hardest.
This by far is one of the most difficult courses in the program! Course is useless unless you want to open a restaurant. Get in a good group for the project or else you're screwed. Try to get a good mark on midterm as exam is extremely difficult. Make friends with students who have already taken his class!!
seriouslly i really hate this professor, no offence, but i think hes trying to fail all of us! sometimes the questions he put on the tests are NOT even mentioned in class..
I think ppl don't give prof Wade enough credit, after finishing his class I feel like I can get through anything =) he's very tough but fair! Make sure u pick ur group carefully as 50% of the grade depends on group work. He is very specific about what he wants from the project, so make it a point to stop by his office and clarify & use APA!!!
continuing from prev comment... the midterm is very detailed, try to get a copy of prev year, very helpful.... and attend class as he omits certain important parts in his posted PP slides and the only way to get them is in class! also take good notes...they will help with the project! Prof Wade is not that bad, but be prepared to work hard!
this class is hard. the project is a lot of work and worth 50% of your mark. make sure you pick a decent group. midterm and exam are very detailed and particular. get a copy of the midterm before hand and expect something similar for the exam. go to class, he teaches how to do the project and you have to learn the actual material yourself from the
expects WAY too much from students. failed so many students on the final project + midterm, making it nearly impossible to pass the course. midterm & final was very hard, fail 1 and u might as well just give up because there's no way u'll pass the course. u have to attend lectures if u want notes cuz he takes out some info from the ppt on blkboard
oh, you think hunter's bad? wait till you meet wade...he's 10000000x worse
He is actually horrible. I dont understand WHY we are learning this stuff..and its disgusting how much work you put into this USELESS class..and the lousy marks you get for it....he makes you hate your program, ryerson, and your life.
Wade cannot live another day without failing people. Good luck in doing stacks of work and using SPSS. He plays favorites and ALWAYS contradicts himself. Choose your group wisely because there is loads of work.
I think he is a good professor but he is EXTREMLY tough. He likes when you go to his office and ask him about the material you don't understand. So make sure that if you are not clear about the project, must go and ask for clarification
Wade is like the Dentist. He's always been there, he inflicts pain, makes you feel incompetent, leaves you feeling depressed, and you have to see him at least once a year. You will have a few classes with him, guaranteed, and you won't enjoy one. The best way to survive is to form a group with good, hardworking people, go to lecture, and pray.
Firstly, I would like to say that if you're going to trash a professor, you may want to use more professional and intelligible language, just a thought. Regardless, I still agree with most of you. Wade's method is unnecessarily difficult and convoluted, even for students who are driven and ready to work hard. His courses make me sick with anxiety.
Wade is a HARD prof. However, if you can't pass his course, you don't belong in university. All these people whining and complaining are just soft. Get a hard working group. Pay attention to every single detail. Most importantly, STAY ON TOP of the project. You should be working on it every single week. Not the week before the submissions.
Besides the fact that this course should be optional and not mandatory, this course is incredibly boring. Worse part, Wade midterms and finals are unreasonably hard. He told us that he doesn't expect us to remember numbers yet tests us on stats and figures! Class avg. for his projects are 60s regardless of amount of effort put in.
Go to class for every single lecture and write down EVERYTHING that he says...you may see it in the exam even if its not on the lecture slides. Final exam: Start studying a month in advance. Group Project: Pay a professional to do it...actually they might not even be able to get you a good grade. Good luck.
To survive wade: go to class. Make sure you have a strong group for the project, or else you'll most likely fail. His midterms and finals are diffucult and you'll need to remember the most random figures and information from the articles. If you go to him, he's nice and will try to help...but still leaves you even more confused than before.
I have learned a lot from prof Wade's class, his projects are extremely difficult but very practical even if you don't go into the F&B industry. Go to every class and pay attention, get a good group for the projects and constantly see him because his instructions aren't always clear in lectures. I got an A- in both HTM402 and HTD500.
Why hasn't this prof been fired yet!!? Has temper tantrums and takes it out on the students. Tests not on useful marketing models but useless examples in his readings. He's looking to catch the people who didn't show up to his class instead really makes sure that you've learned useful knowledge from his classes. How does that help anyone? Pathetic!
must attend classes in order to fill in missing slides. textbook has nothing to do with his slides. He will not explain the book but half of the midterm/exam is based on the book. so make sure to read it. the project is the toughest in 2nd year. make sure to keep up or else cramming everything will def fail it. take lots of notes and read everythin
After taking mkting, feas, and R&D with him, I am prepared for what the world has to throw at me. Extremely tough prof and very demanding, but that's exactly what the business world is. GREAT PROF. You NEED to be smart enough to ask the RIGHT questions. Got an A in R&D and worked my ass off for it. Ask him LOTS of GOOD questions and you'll be fine.
Honestly, Wade is one of the best professors at Ryerson. I guarantee you every one who gave him bad reviews did so because they failed to attend class / do the reading and therefore received a low grade. His classes are extremely challenging and demanding, yes. But what you learn in them (marketing, feas, res) will prepare you for the real world.
Wade is a very particular prof. He is very rude at times and seems to take pleasure out of making students fee stupid, however what he teaches is the ultimate preparation for the real world! He is the only prof whose project is anything related to what you may be doing in the future! He just needs a big attitude adjustment
I'm in his class right now. Failed the first submission already. Already prepared to do bad in this class even though my group and I try so hard. It's so sad. all I have to say is good luck honestly.
I like Professor Wade's courses. However, I think the course needs restructuring. First, I think the project should have more submissions and a higher overall weight of the grade i.e. 70% and a 30% final. His testing is petty and tests regurgitation of random facts. Components of the project are very outdated. Wade's retirement is overdue.
Before coming into the class, I heard horror stories about this prof. However, I am SO grateful to have had Wade. You will learn more than you have learned in any other course. The things you learn can be directly applied! He is tough but you will learn a lot! Work hard and you will get a good grade.
be prepared.... just be prepared.
The project isn't so bad, I actually enjoyed it, although the exam is completely unfair. It's all about what he talks about in class, and it's very unclear making the exam tricky. He's extremely rude, and doesn't seem to understand that this course needs to be reevaluated!!
Richard Wade is a very poor professor. He is very out of touch with his industry and interpersonal skills. Do not take his courses if you do not need to. His inconsitant style of teaching makes it very difficult to do well. He is also a bit power hungry and can be very rude to people who challenge his authority.
Professor Wade is a true educator. He adds value to both the program and his students' learning. You will learn time management, APA, team building and a great appreciation for the program. He's more than willing to help you along the way. He's a nice person outside the class but all business when it comes to the course. Welcome to the real world
Despite the controversy surrounding him, Richard Wade is a true educator. At the end of his courses you realize how much you actually learn. He is a tough marker and expects a lot from his students but if you attend every class and write down proper notes you are in good hands. He loves when people who come to his office hours so make use of that.
Terrible prof, he doesn't understand that 50% of the class fails its because of him.
Extremely rude prof. Wouldn't take his class again. Basically there is one good reason this guy is a prof. No one would want to work with him if he were in the real world.
Learning from Professor Wade was one of the most invaluable experiences I've ever had. He expects you to work for you grade and if you do then you are guaranteed to get a lot out of his classes. If you go to see him, prepare intelligent questions and he will answer them clearly. The exams and projects are tough but welcome to business school!
He's very nice outside of class. However, the evaluation needs to change. Although I always went to class and took notes (the powerpoint is missing a lot of points that you need to fill in yourself), I still failed this course. Midterm&exam were extremely unfair (marks get deducted in T&F, questions from the most randomest blurbs in the textbook)
This course and HTM 402 need to be re -evaluated. They're awful and are made worse by Wade. Unlike other professors who tell you all that they want for a project in one single document, he scatters information into tiny bits and pieces making everything ambiguous. His marking is all over the place and often contradictory. Exam's were unfair too.
AVOID THIS MAN LIKE THE PLAGUE AT ALL COSTS
He's boring, apathetic, has no personality, and does not even try to engage the class. The aforementioned wouldn't be a problem if he were at least a fair marker as a prof. Good luck hospitality students, there's really no avoiding him. He's the reason why I switched my program to BM- hosp profs have no personality, ironically enough
This guy is the worst prof i ever had, boring, rude, outdated, and a tough marker. please get rid of this prof
yo dawg this guy is my fav prof ever. His class 10/10 would take again. so lit. had a blast.
actually pretty useful if you go to his office and ask questions, and pretty nice if there's a problem you need help with. Took me 3 mandatory courses with him to finally learn that
Good prof. He knows what he's talking about. BUT if you don't listen or come to class, you will not have a clue as to what he's saying and will probably fail this course. Group projects are long and confusing. Overall, tough grader but great prof. It is his last year at Ryerson so for anyone reading this, you're off the hook ;)
He is a terrible professor. Extremely difficult to understand his lectures in addition to his assignments. On top of that he is rude and condescending with remarks he makes to questions. I dropped his class and am re-taking with another professor now who makes the class so much easier.
Unclear in his expectations for projects and tests. Terrible lecturer, using outdated examples and slides. Completely uncharistmatic. Worst class I have taken at Ryerson.
Richard Wade is an amazing professor. The insights and wisdom you receive from his amazing lectures are just breathtaking and inspirational. Learning from such a fantastic professor shows just how high of a caliber professor Richard Wade is. I absolutely suggest taking this man's class and you will learn so much from him. Overall 10/10, no regrets.
