(Took college algebra) Walcott teaches clearly and concisely. He preps you for each exam, and he gives partial credit if you show your work. The online homework takes a bit of time but he gives you about a week to do each one so it's not too much. Would take him again if I need one of his other classes.
the best math teacher I ever had in my entire life. WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? He would have been so helpful in highschool. wish he taught other the next courses!
I had Mr. Walcott for College Algebra. He is very nice, but teaches extremely fast. He also doesn't always help if a student doesn't understand. My math lab is used for all homework assignments and tests. If you do not have a computer or need a slower learning pace, I would not recommend him as your teacher.
Dr. Walcott is an excellent professor. He is helpful, funny, makes math enjoyable and knows his stuff.
He was a wonderful and very personable teacher, I am sad his College Algebra schedule can not fit my schedule.I recommend him highly. He drops the 3 lowest grades.
The pros are his grading structure, he is one of the few mathematics professors that have an abundance of points. However that is completely overwhelmed by the hardness of his tests. The homework is at one level and the exam problems are at a completely different one. there is not much build up of the material. Also communication is poor
He makes the tests the night before so he is unprepared to clarify test specifics. He gives no opportunity for extra credit. He assigns relatively simple homework problems while making the tests significantly more challenging. I would not recommend taking him for Calculus 1.
I really enjoy this teacher, however the material is anything but "general". Be prepared to read and reread the chapters in the text book and review the notes thoroughly in order to gain a small grasp on anything for this course. Good teacher, just do plenty of independent study or you may struggle.
Prof. Walcott makes science interesting and gives a lot of application questions for us to think about (not to mention his funny jokes). I enjoyed his class and am looking forward to taking other classes mathscience classes he teaches. Btw, about 40% of his exam questions are hard but if you follow the study guide you will be ok.
Does not help any outside of classroom and is very vague in the class. Hard to work with and understand. Must devote several hours to every homework assignment. If you do not take the time to review and learn outside of class you will not pass.
I thought this class would be difficulty because I didn't do well in science in HS but gosh, Dr. Walcott made it interesting, the videos are great, his examples make you want to learn more. Not to mention he gave extra credit (like where can we find part of the extra day in a leap year during during a non-leap year) and he is hot.
Crack jokes and gets off topic sometimes during lecture. He expects you to have the basic algebra skills down and if you need help, go find a tutor. Exams are done on paper so partial points are given if work is shown. Somewhat of an easy class if you do your work online and study.
Professor walcott is a good guy but is not a good math teacher. He flies through the lecture without any class participation and no explanation of what he is doing. You teach yourself through the notes. I wish he was a good math teacher because he was really a cool person.
he continues teaching until the end of class, even if he finished the lecture he had planed for the class. he is a fast and sloppy writer, he does not respond to emails. there is a quiz each week and a ton of questions for each section, which are at least three per week and gives about 6 or 7 days to finish each weeks homework. would not take.
He is an awful professor, I have always thought I was good at math until I took his class. He never does anything he says he will such as posting grades on Blackboard, only teaches via Pearson slideshows, and relies on mylabsplus to do all his work for homework and tests. He never replies to emails and DON'T TRUST HIS SYLLABUS. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!
I'm by no means a physics minded person and I struggled in his class. He is a nice guy and everything but I had some trouble when he explained some topics. I worked my butt off in his class though and passed. He wouldn't be to hard if your good at math. Be sure to do the extra credit assignments because he gives a lot. He's a hit or miss professor.
Very unclear and unhelpful and uncaring.
Richard Walcott is a great professor. The grade in the class is one that you must earn but is worth it. He offers help outside of class and is willing to help you understand the material.
He does not care at all. He said and I quote," I am not a teacher, I am not here to teach you things, I am a professor, I am here to profess my knowledge to you." He also said that he may take away our equation cheat sheet for the next exam just because we should have them all memorized anyway. That is not how physics is taught!
I've taken science courses in the summer before and they have not been this organized and interesting. Great professor, however, if you think you are in high school where you get several chances and whine to get extra points or pass without studying that won't happen in his class.
His lectures are clear and labs are fun. We made an audio speaker for less than $1 from disposable plates, a walmart magnet and a few wires. Don't take physics if you are laaaaaazy...i found that out the hard way a few semesters ago.
His lectures are clear and labs are fun. We made an audio speaker for less than $1 from disposable plates, a walmart magnet and a few wires. Don't take physics if you are laaaaaazy...i found that out the hard way a few semesters ago.
I thought he would be nerdish but he made physics interesting and fun even though the summer session was quick. And by the way, he did NOT say "I am not here to teach but profess my knowledge!" He was simply explaining the difference between high school and college that a lot of work is done outside the class by the student when you are in college.
Professor Walcott is a wonderful humorous teacher. Lectures are inspiring and he knows how to get you thinking in the right direction. I like the sample exams and the review of the sample exams before the class.
Mr. Walcott is an amazing professor. He understands how hard the subject is and is very willing to work with you till you understand. I understand a lot more taking his class than I did in Physics 1. He is very respectful and helps in anyway that he can. I would defiantly recommend taking him.
I learned a lot and enjoyed coming to class.
This class requires you to think outside the box and to not treat each problem in the same manner. He would fly through powerpoints and work on just a handful of problems afterwards. Homework and lab reports barely do anything to your grade, unless you don't do them, then your grade will plummet! Overall, manage your time in this course!
I drove to Tulsa from Stillwater every Tuesday and Thursday for this class. Professor Walcott is the best educator Ive had in my college career. He truly cares about his students and their educations. Very nice, fun, and intelligent. The labs were long but you learn a lot in them. Physics 2 is dense material but he makes it as fun as possible.
He is a nice fun professor. The tests weren't easy, but he gave extra credits.
Wow...I took physics before and didn't understand anything but after taking professor Walcott I learned a lot and can actually say I now understand it. I am glad that I did not take it at my university but drove many miles to take him. Be prepared to work and not expect handouts.
I was scared and anxious at first because I always heard that Physics was hard but after the first day Dr. Walcott made things seem so doable. I really enjoyed the class and look forward to Physics 2.
Physics 1 was a disaster & the professor just wrote stuff on the board. I decide to take professor Walcott instead of my Physics 1 professor. Physics 2 concepts were different and hard to grasp at first but he made it really simple by including applications in lectures and labs. There is a lot of stuff to cover so the class moves quickly.
If you want to pass this class with not much effort then don't take him. RUN OFF. Find another Professor will limit your TIME To minimum effort and fast result.
If I knew how hard this class would be, I probably would have not taken it. Physics is hard to begin with and I think everyone needs more than 16 weeks to learn it. Tests were horrible. Everyone in class prepared to fail. 1 open book test. Do your hw and labs and it might keep you a float with a low B, unless you like this stuff!
He makes a real effort to keep class interactive, which is tough when there are 48 students in the same room. Made us laugh almost every day. Never made class run later than necessary. He's a bit hard to follow during lectures, and he's slow to grade stuff, but don't rearrange your whole schedule to avoid him. Do the work and you'll be fine.
I was not a huge fan of Professor Walcott. His lectures were good, but he rarely did any practice problems to help us understand the application of the concepts. Our homework was so difficult. I always studied so hard for the exams (using the materials he would give) and would do horrible. He almost expected us to know how to do everything...
Professor Walcott was a very nice individual but his overall teaching style was not very helpful. If you like physics and/or math this might be the class for you! Just be prepared to study and practice, practice, practice!
I enjoyed taking Physics with Dr. Walcott. He knows his stuff, is energetic, and helps students. He gives extra credit which I needed. I learned a whole lot.
Awesome professor. Even though physics is hard, the way he designed the class makes it possible to pass without having to get an A or B on every exam. The exam review sessions really helped me.
Didn't know what to expect when the semester started but I enjoyed the class. He breaks down the stuff so we can understand and helped me refresh my math (which sucked) during office hours. The quizzes are a little difficult but they are just 5%. I recommend taking Dr. Walcott and will take him for physics 2.
I didn't think I was going to pass but I will actually get an A. I love the funny physics jokes he gives in a sarcastic way and he give chances to redo the homework. I hate the mastering physics software for the homework, if you enter characters wrong it grades it wrong. Thankfully he curves the HW grade to help out issue like that. I love him
He is AMAZING!
His class was a good overview of the different medical imaging fields. Loved learning the physics behind X-Rays, sonography, etc. His exams are the only real negative area. This was an issue before COVID-19 began. Blackboard's "fill in the blank" questions were always very sensitive and he could not resolve the issue; exams were released late a lot
I am taking PHYS 1114 online and Dr. Walcott is very organized. It is more difficult since we do not have class on campus but his lecture videos are clear and enjoyable.
He is one of the better physics teachers. I worked very hard but he is a whole lot better than the jerk I had last semester and he knows his stuff.
I decided not to take Physics at ORU and I am so glad that I did. Dr. Walcott is kind, understanding, and easy to approach. Physics 2 labs are a little long but he plays music in the labs and that makes the time go by quickly.
I am getting an "A", but I would not if professor walcott did not make all exams only 50% of the grade. I don't do well on exams. The labs homework and so on brought my grade up. He has a lot videos showing how to work problems and his weekly zoom sessions are helpful. Very nice man, I wish this was an on campus class.
This is the hardest freaking class I've ever taken. Physics is damn hard stuff but my buddy said he had a blast in Dr Walcott's class last year so I took him and then they changed to online. I am doing well and he tries his best and gives a few extra days if I run into problems but learning online is maaaad hard. He curves and that helps a lot.
From all my online classes Walcott is the most organized. Every week Blackboard has steps that we need to do to complete the work. I tried ignoring the steps and got confused but when I followed the steps, like reading the book then watching his lecture videos then worksheets I did well. Expect him to not answer emails on weekends
I'm taking him online for Physics 1 and plan to take his blended class for Physics 2 on campus next semester. I didn't know what to expect since I heard great things about his class and also not so good things. I realized that if you are lazy you will fail (like my friend) but if you turn things in you will do well. He will NOT hand you a grade.
If possible do NOT take his online course. He never replies to emails quickly, or at all. He hides the right answer when you finish taking a quiz so you don't know the correct answer and he doesn't connect with his students at all. We basically have to teach ourselves. Irregular testing styles but labs were easy having a group chat is a good idea.
Online/fall/16 weeks; 15 chapters/4 tests. I try to find good professors regardless of how easy or difficult. I have to say this is the worst experience I have had with a professor. He grades under the assumption you are cheating and he belittles you when asking questions. Doesnt email back quickly if at all and changed test formats for each one.
Copious notes, fellow students, and a friendly engineer are what will get you through this course - not the teacher. He's a great guy, but his teaching methods leave much to be desired. Be prepared to teach yourself.
Look, I knew going in this semester was going to be challenging. With that said, this was a poor attempt at teaching. No instructor involvement to be heard of. No real feedback other than a grade. No lectures and labs done on your own. I didn't pay money to teach myself Physics. If you can get him in person it may be worth a shot. Otherwise pass.
I had to teach myself almost everything and never felt prepared for exams. I utilized what Professor Walcott gave our class for exam preparation but it was rarely helpful. He would often email the class to change exam formats hours before he uploaded exams. Professor Walcott also lacked communication methods which are crucial for an online course.
So inconsistent in his expectations, though he would argue that he was exceedingly consistent. All four exams were a different format. After telling students that the final would be multiple choice, he changed it to fill in the blank 6 hours prior to the final. This was very disappointing, as I selected his course after reading good comments.
I took Professor Walcott for an online course, which I expected to bring some hardships. This class will not be an easy one. Professor Walcott was helpful in the way that he had weekly zoom meetings and posted videos of worked problems. But the exams were tough. Not a lot of explanation on how the exam would be. They tended to different each time.
I took his class online because of Covid. If at all possible, AVOID him. Does not communicate with his students- I had to contact the division of math & science to get him to respond to emails. No feedback on anything and changes formats of exams last minute. Wouldnt recommend at all.
DO NOT TAKE. especially if you are taking more than 1/2 classes. He gives from 3-6 assignments a week. Not just lots of work, he teaches about 1 -2 problems. Most definitely have to teach yourself in this class or find a tutor. His online examples do not relate to the homework. All he gives are powerpoints.
Online physics is different so be prepared to follow the steps and check your email and announcements. Dr Walcott arranged the course site very good, and the weekly live Zoom sessions help a lot. Do not be afraid contact him if you need help. So far the course is working well for me & he is understanding to extend the due dates etc.
Professor Walcott is awesome even in the online class. Reading all the ratings I didn't want to take Walcott, but a friend said I should take him and ignore the bad reviews. My friend said she got an A and that a few students in her class were lazy and didn't want to work for a grade so they planned to give him bad reviews. I am doing well so far
We just got back our second exam result and I am doing great. He also said that exam 3 is a take home exam. Dr Walcott curves his exams and counts all exams as 50% of the class grade this is freaking great! The labs, homework, discussion, and everything else count for 50% which is gives me the chance to keep my A.
I usually rate my professors in the middle and end of the semester & Dr Walcott is really nice. I am in the on campus section but I like that his video lectures for all chapters are available for us to review in case we miss a class. He grades fairly & is reasonable. Very smart professor that explains things very well. I'm glad I didnt take it @OU
Dr. Walcott is an awesome likable dude, who is smart and very understanding. He works with you if you have an emergency and sticks around after class to help. I am so glad that I took him on campus this semester. I can't believe that I am getting an A in physics and the semester is almost over.
Professor Walcott is an awesome guy. He breaks everything down so clearly and understands that we are not physics majors. I would suggest that you read the text book before coming to class. I also like that his recorded video lectures are available even though my class is on campus. This helped me because I had to miss school for a job training.
I took this class over the summer as an online class so that in its self was hard. I will say that this professor had a very well put together online summer class. Each weeks assignments were clearly put together. I can in never taking a physics class and I passed with a High A. The professor is also very easily contacted and is very nice.
Professor Walcott is a great professor and he really does care. My only complaint is that he takes a while to grade and sometimes takes a while to respond. If you need help, email him early or attend the zoom help sessions. Class has lots of homework (like most lab classes do) but he's pretty clear on what needs to be done and when.
The labs were fine but the assignments and tests were hard, the reviews never helped you prepare for this exam.
I took professor Walcott for Physics I - online. I accidently signed up for an 8 week course. It was very fast paced but doable if you keep up with the weekly assignments. Had a total of 4 exams, two were monitored, two were not. If you get a good grade on your final, he will replace that grade with your worst exam grade.
He was good at providing material, but it was not clear and understanding. Didn't feel like he understood that we were not all physics experts, and that we needed extra help and explaining.
Do not take him unless you want to self study.
Good professor if you follow his steps for success you will get a good grade. He does take a while to grade though. Also he curves the final and switches your worst exam grade if you do better on the final as well as dropping worst hw or lab. Easy class.
Professor Walcott is a really nice guy, and he is undoubtedly genius, but sometimes he can be hard to follow. You will definitely have to do a lot of studying from outside materials so that you can understand everything. His tests are hard, but they aren't too bad, and he does curve them. As long as you study long and hard, you should be okay.
His course is well organized and if you follow the criteria for success you will do great. I had a few emergencies and he worked with me.
The grade is a weighted grade so be careful to understand that exams are worth more than quizzes. Physics 2 was tough but Dr. Walcott is a great professor who knows his stuff and is very funny.
I needed the extra credit points to get me to 89.6 and he rounded up. Was intimidated at first because he looks young and is attractive black professor but the class was so interesting and the study guide was clear and helpful. Loved the discussion on blackholes.
I took online courses before and there were no lecture videos but Professor Walcott made his own lecture videos, posted power point notes, solutions to worksheets and helped me a lot during personal zoom sessions. The opening video showed how to find the assignments and write the labs etc. No wonder his class fills as soon as it opens
I didn't like physics 2 the first time around but Dr. Walcott made it very enjoyable and explained things really well. His exams are a bit tough but he is curves and gives extra credit.
This was an 8 weeks online class and it was over quickly, however, professor walcott was good at Zoom office hours and he was available to meet on campus if you needed extra help. His video lectures helped and the course was organized and I liked the online labs. He is a very caring professor and works with you if you have an emergency.
Just finished the online summer session and got an A. Watch out, the final exam is a bit tough but professor walcott's study guide and the curve helped. His lecture videos are great and I learned a lot of physics. He also has zoom office hrs that helped me with the hw and labs. He is very funny, helpful, and easy to talk to.
Physics 2 is hard, and I don't recommend taking it blended. Learning on your own is nearly impossible without spending hours on end. He grades fair and grades easier than he should on exams. I think more could have been done by the prof one day a week we met to help us understand the concepts better. Great guy, but def an in-person class necessary.
He was a very difficult professor. I felt like I learned nothing in this class. I had to teach myself and most of the time I felt super confused in his class. If you can take a different professor I would.
I took him for an online Physics 1 course. The videos he has are years old. I emailed him twice about the exam and never got a response. His class is passable but you should be warned that you will have to teach yourself most of the content.
The labs are fun and easy points. The textbook is kind of wordy but it helps with the lecture material because the professor usually just uploads a YouTube video lecture. Homework is doable. Practice test are somewhat like the actual test. Taking physics 2 as a blended course is hard so be prepared to study.
The exams are demanding but he balances labs and tests in such a way that it's hard to fail, unless your attendance and effort are poor. He's the type of professor that if you put forth the effort in his class, he'll put forth the effort in developing you as the student.
I didn't like the class to begin with but it turned out to be my favorite. Walcott seemed like he really wanted all of us to pass. His tests are difficult but if you make a good formula sheet you should do well. He also adds a pretty generous curve to them. He also gets rid of your lowest lab grade and replaces the lowest test grade with the final.
I had to teach myself the material. The video lectures are good, homework and labs are fine. Tests are hard- grading scale balances w/other assignments. Don't expect email replies. I emailed multiple times -no response. He gave partial credit for missed work. I emailed him. Grade was never changed - stayed a zero.
For the fully online physics class if you start the labs and assignments the night it is almost due you won't get done. I like that his video lectures are available and videos showing how to work problems. Attending his office hours campus will also help a lot.
The class is structured well, but he is a very slow grader, doesn't give any feedback on assignments, and did not respond to a single one of my emails the entire semester. There are two proctored exams including the final, and two non-proctored. He does curve the proctored exams. Do NOT miss assignments or lab report submissions and you will be ok.
I just completed the online physics in the summer and it was tough in 8 weeks but Dr Walcott did a zoom session that helped a lot. Pay attention to the announcement and course schedule and make sure you submit things on time. His lecture videos also helped and remember to use the tutors.
The only thing is dislike about the course is the mastering physics software that counts it wrong if you put a space in the wrong place. He only gave us 4 or 5 homework problems for each chapter but it took so much time. The labs were easy to do and the worksheet was easy.
Do not take this professor. He sends no announcements, sets due dates on random days, rushes through lectures, and has a constant attitude. He kicked us out of class (on our lecture day) and said we were a waste of his time when no one remembered to do the exam review, which he had only mentioned once a few weeks earlier.
I'm partially to blame bc I didn't realize blended meant you're on your own. We are supposed to be there from 1-3:50 pm but we got on average about an hour to an hour and a half in class to do our lab and the rest was on us. If I wanted to teach myself physics I would've just taken it online.
I waited to take Professor Walcott's class because other engineering students told me to and I was not disappointed. I like how he explained complicated physics concepts and gives examples to my career. The exams are a bit tough but if you work the sample exam and the study guide you will be prepared. The extra credits also helped my grade a lot.
Prof. Walcott is an organized and supportive instructor, offering clear grading guidelines with a curve, extra credit, and thorough, accessible explanations of complex topics. They're approachable, accommodating outside of class, and bring humor and humility to their teaching. A truly positive experience for any student seeking success in physics!
Challenging physics course, but the video lectures and using unstuck AI for study prep helped me stay on top of the material. Assignments can be time-consuming, so start early.
He lectured as much as he ranted that he was a professor and not a teacher, and thus did not need to teach. Oddly, the other 4 professors I took that semester seemed to have no issue teaching the material. His position came off as lazy, him not wanting to cover material rather than him being the smart and serious lecturer like he obviously intended
Expects students to have material learned but wont lecture saying it's not his job to teach. You won't get help yet he doesn't like questions. He has a well laid out blackboard page but all class materials are multiple years old from different professors since he seems to have checked out in all areas other than grading, which he still does harshly
I took this class online and he was a tough grader. Lectures were not very clear and neither was the homework. Hated most of the labs, they taught me almost nothing. Had to teach myself physics, so I was super unprepared going into physics 2.
only uploads grades every 2 weeks. this makes knowing where you are in the course hard.
Before I took this class, I was super scared that Walcott would be a horrible teacher. Now, I think he's pretty chill. I was online, so make sure to watch his lectures. He does exams in different forms and curves scores. He also grades nicely (but slowly) if you complete your work before the due date. If you actually try it'll be fine.
Lab, homework and worksheet due every week. Tons of work. Has homework due the same day exams are due. I still have work from the first week of classes ungraded and theres only 2 weeks of this semester. Would not recommend this class.
don't take the online course at all. Instructions were very unclear and the lab assignments are confusing. Never withdrew from a course before but had to with him.
Do not take this professor if you actually want to learn. Also didn't grade anything from august to October
pt He is the kind of person if you want to learn he is ready to teach you. If you don/t get get a concept ask questions don;t be embarrassed he know how to get you to par. Don.t worry about grades he wants to see participation and attendance and communication. Beware he give pop quizzes but if you understand the concept you will be ok
He is an amazing professor. He cares more about you understanding the concept more than grades. Very understanding if you communicate. He values your participations. Be ware of pop quizzes but if you know the concepts you will be ok.if you dont understand ask questions he does like explaining concepts
