Very nice teacher. I recommend him to everyone.
Easy to understand teaching style.
He is a very good in understanding the knowledge level of students, then teach.
enjoyed the class and a very professional style of teaching
Great professor. Explains subject very well. Ensures everyone in the class is getting the topics. Lots of extra credit opportunities.
Dr White is awesome. You never know what kind of mood he's in but just pick it out by the shirt and tie he wears! All math professors are wierd, but Dr. White is a nice guy if u go and talk to him. I recommend him to anyone

Professor White is a cool dude. After class he goes out and smokes Backwoods cigars. I think he's from Texas.

awesome teacher. started at chp 1 the first day, ended on last chapter last day. nice guy. very clear and patient.
Nice Guy. Plays by book.
This teacher has his **** togeather he treats his class like humans not a number, he is very respectfull and teaches very well, I was able to learn more in his math class than any other. He is a great teacher.
Was sooo easy & very clear on the material. Went over things as much as he could, but tried to keep to his schedule. Gave TONS of extra credit. Allows you to use a 5X8 notecard front/back with ANYTHING u may need written on it for every test. 5 stars
Good prof. Very helpful. Very clear. Gives opportunity for extra credit. Fair on testing and grading.
Great Teacher. Very clear and understanding. Genious in his field. very adept with helping students who have difficulty understanding. Impatient with late work but very patient with in class questions. Great at lectures, I Would take his class anytime.
Wonderful teacher. I hate math, and have never done particularly well in it, but I got an A in his class -- and actually understood what I was doing. I feel much better about my math abilities due to his class. He's just great!
very easy for finite math but do not take him for college algebra
best teacher ever for math if you have to take a math take him becasue he makes it easy
Awesome Guy!!!! One of the best math teachers in the school, if not the best!!! Take Him!!!
GREAT TEACHER! A++++++ Take him, it's so easy but so fun!
Dr. White is a math genius and a great teacher; he makes even difficult concepts easy to understand. His only failing (and I hope he reads this b/c I'm sure noone'll tell him): he writes notes too fast to be copied, and he's lecturing while everyone's still frantically copying. Needs handout notes.
He never explains anything. He just writes on the board and goes from one end to the other.
There is no sexier professor than Dr. Rick White. I will take him for every class if possible!!!!!!
Awesome Teacher! He will give his right arm to try to help you.
Best Math Teacher in the dept. Have taken him twice now & plan on taking him again & i hate math. Will help you if you ask. Do your homework and be prepared and theres no reason to fail. Lets you use front & back of paper to write anything on it for tests. Amazing teacher. TAKE HIM!
I am horrible, I repeat horrible at math and this guy gave me his all. He was very helpful and kind and understanding. DO YOUR HOMEWORK the only people to complain about his class didn't do their homework, he rocks my world!!!
White is sweet. If you pay attention, copy everything on the board, and care about your grade, you'll do well. He's fair and good at explaining things. I would reccommend no one else!
horrible teacher. Don not take him if you can avoid it. Very rude, and does not like when students ask questions. Has favorites. He is the worse
Seems kind of bored and frusterated teaching Finite because he's such a smart guy. Honestly wants his students to succeed and will do anything to help them. I don't know how he put up with some of the people in Finite, but I applaud him.
excellent math professor. pay attention and do hw and get an a. hw is key in any math class. put in at least an hour outside for every hour in class and there will be no problem.
Math comes easy for me, but Dr. White's tests and quizzes have shown me the stupid mistakes I make. VERY patient with the slower students. Fellow caffeine junkie and a good sense of humor.
HE IS REALLY NICE
he is not nicest of the bunch...doesnt like black people..very RUDE..INCONSIDERATE
I didn't really care for this teacher. He went fast for the material. There was a lot of homework, which you are to use for a weekly quiz every Friday. The tests were hard and I didn't find him very helpful.
I have not passed a math class since 8th grade (and I flunked college math 3 times at my last school), with Dr. White's class I earned an A... do the homework, show up and pay attention, and don't be afraid to ask for help if needed. One of the few classes where your effort truly determines your grade. I would take him any time!!!
I do not appreciate being yelled at in class.
Horrible prof!! You would think he would encourage questions but ha NOT!! He acts like your stupid when you ask a question and wants you to figure it out on your own. There's a lot of online homework that doesn't make sense and the exams are hard! More than half my class dropped it including myself. Don't recommend taking him at all!!
I took him for Precalculus and Finite Math. He is a closet comic. Most students can't tell when he's joking because they're pretty dumb or sleepy and he's super subtle. His approach is very methodological. Do your work, get help with FREE tutoring, visit him AFTER tutoring and you will succeed. Check out his research work... pretty cool stuff.
Had White for Calc 1. He's a good teacher, he just forgot a lot that it was a lower level class, and refused to review. Loads of online homework, plus textbook homework. All the homework will help you out if you actually do it all. Two exams, plus final. He gives extra credit. His dry humor is entertaining. Lets you have cheat-sheets on tests.
At first I was a little intimidated by him, but then I just realized he wasn't a morning person. Great professor, however if you haven't taken a calculus class prior to his class you may have some difficulty. He doesn't require you to go to class, but homework is required. If you're lazy, don't take his class!
I hate math, and this class didn't change my feelings at all. He answers questions by not answering them and just confuses everyone. I got the highest grade on one of the tests and it was an 81%. I'm miserable in that class and I'm so glad it's the last math class I'll ever have to take!! (Plus he gives 80+ homework problems every class)
cannot explain things to students who have questions and does not care if you understand the material
He is always prepared, converts hard book topics into easy notes; gives you 100% everyday. In return, he expects you to know the prereqs and WORK HARD to learn. Don't be afraid to ask questions in class & if you still need help see him after-looks intimidating but is really very nice. Use tutors. He is tough but fair, we need more profs like him.
Dr. White is an awesome professor, had him for calc 1,2 and 3. Gives great detailed notes and will make sure you leave understanding the material if you ask for help. He expects a lot of work from students and tests can be hard but if you put forth the effort you'll be fine. As with any prof. if you respect him he'll respect and help you.
By far the worst professor I have ever taken at Edinboro. He flies through the notes for each chapter, he makes you feel really stupid if you dont know what he is talking about and just overall not a great professor. His test are hard but if you do your homework assignments online and homework quizzes so help you god you pass with a D+ or C.
Nice man but he can't teach math to non-math majors. The 70-80 online (useless)homework problems 2X week took up so much of my time that my other classes suffered.
I had this professor for multiple classes Math 211, 275, and 311. He is not an easy A in any way, but he is a great teacher. He is always prepared with a full set of notes. I am thankful for having him as a teacher because I actually learn the material. He's overall a nice guy & always willing to help! I hope I'll be as great of a teacher one day.
Two things you should know. One, he is a GREAT teacher and you will learn a lot about calculus! Two, you have to put in more work than you could imagine to succeed in this class. I would say if you are going to take Dr. White, make sure you will have a lot of time for work in class. Hw every day, quiz every week (based on hw) and fair tests
Not a good professor at all! Flies through the notes, test and homework are extremely hard. Gives definition/Theorem quizzes that you have to recite word for word.
He is an o.k teacher, he just grades a lot harder than most teachers
Not a bad professor if you are good at memorizing. He is not good at explaining things to students who don't understand the concept the way he taught it in class. There are better professors who teach this class and I would suggest waiting if at all possible to take the class if he's the only one teaching it. If not, be prepared to work a lot
I've never enjoyed a math class so much! He makes learning easy, has a sense of humor which I enjoy, quizzes are open book, but tests are lengthy and hard. This isn't algebra math - you learn how to finance a loan, pay a mortgage, figure out odds, and a whole bunch of other curiously interesting things. Take him if you get the chance!
Knows a lot about math, but sadly this doesn't make him a good teacher. He stands with his back to the students and copies notes on the board. If someone dares to interrupt with a question, he acts like it is a huge inconvenience. Homework for 270 will take you hours: he requires paragraphs of text to be manually copied verbatim from the textbook.
MATH270 is an extremely difficult class, but Professor White is very good at teaching it. He may just write notes on the board, but when it comes to doing problems he explains each step and answers any questions people have. His sense of humor is dry, but it's enough to get a chuckle or two every class. Tests are rough, but doable if you study.
At first he comes off as a decent professor. His lectures are pretty clear, although at a fast pace. However, I quickly realized that he doesn't give a damn about his students. Dr. White is their to give his lesson and give grades. He isn't understanding at all. He is a crazy grader. Does things like take off points for not putting periods. Avoid.
Professor White is certainly an expert in the subject matter of this course. If you aren't a math whiz yourself it can be hard to keep up. More than half the class dropped by midterms but if you stick it out and ask for help he will do everything he can to help you learn. Go to class, take notes, and make connections with other students.
How anybody took this professor and gave him a good rating is beyond me. The way he speaks to his students in a condescending manner when they are trying to learn baffles me. He will subtract points from your quiz if its not to his standards, even if the book says you're doing it right, he will say "the book is wrong". I would avoid at all costs
Don't bother asking him a question during class because chances are he'll just start talking to you like you're really really stupid. I don't think he understands that prior to him teaching us we don't understand what he's writing, so when someone is slowing down his extremely fast chalkboard writing, he gets pissed.
Very tough professor. You get a ton of homework each night and a homework quiz every week. Basically, you have to do the homework and on quiz day you copy certain problems out of your notebook and turn it in for credit. The exams are VERY difficult, even with studying. Know your stuff before each class and you should be okay.
Dr. White could stand to clarify his lectures more (ie, use less "math-speak"), but overall he's a good professor. Read: good, not easy. It's an incredibly difficult class but as long as you go to him with questions either after class or during his office hours your confusion will be gone.
Mr. White is definitely a difficult professor, but this is college folks, it's not supposed to be easy. I had him for a summer trig course, and it was very hard. Students complained about him being a hard grader and too particular, but for the most part math is black and white;if it's wrong, it's wrong. May not be a good choice of not a math major.
Dr. White is amazing. He respectfully speaks to his students on a their level. If you have difficulty understanding his lectures, he holds the best office hours. He explains his expectations, models exactly what he wants, then hands it to you. He is thorough, has high expectations for his students. 2 pass- YOU have 2 at least be a good student
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Takes pleasure in making the class as hard as possible and doesn't hide it. Makes people feel stupid for asking questions. The remotely positive feedback here must have come from math majors - the only ones worth his time. Went to every class, did all homework, went to tutor, pulled a C in MATH105 in Summer II - didn't matter.
Very hard, makes you feel like a failure for asking questions. Tries to be funny and pass it off as a joke, but it's not. I do like him as a person, but he has a hard time relating to students.
One of the best math teachers I've ever had, but the hours and hours of homework a week and the particular grading on his quizzes are why I wouldn't take his class again. He will help you if you ask for help, especially during his office hours. He offers bonus and he cares about you if you put the work in.
He is a nice man but a very hard grader. There will be homework in the class that will require time and effort to complete. You will need to spend time studying the material every week to do well in his class. If he chooses to do board problems in your class do at least two every week!! He will give bonus points if you do extra board problems!!!!
I liked Dr. White's style, however, it is incredibly difficult to manage in the summer (being a condensed class). His grades are only based on how well you test. He grades by process, which is awesome. Stay on your game. DO. THE. HOMEWORK.
Really don't care about students and go over everything fast.
He comes off very serious, but once you get to know him you see how truly caring he is. He is a nice professor and really cares about his students. He even brought us brownies and bagels when we jokingly asked him to.
Seems like a scary dude but is super nice and is willing to work with you to pass. If you want to pass, you will. Always willing to work with you.
Professor White comes off hard on the outside but is an amazingly caring professor. The class can get challenging, but he takes all of the quiz problems directly from the homework. Do the homework, keep up on you work, and you'll be fine. He also works with students outside his set office hours if you need it.
Very hard class, he makes you feel like you are failing and dont know anything. Plus, when you ask questions he laughs and gets upset when you dont get it. I would not recommend taking him as a professor. EVERYONE in my class knew they were going to fail... when the last day to drop out of classes came around it was half the class.
If you do not show one step no matter how easy the step is to do in your head, he will take at least 20% off of the total test grade for each problem you forget something.
He is a genius, and seems like a decent enough guy, but has no concept of effective teaching. He gives out almost 50 problems per night of homework, and supplements this with probably the worst lectures you would ever have to sit through. The problems on the tests are always ridiculously hard, and he blows through them in seconds in class. Avoid.
Awful, everything is based on tests and the tests are extremely hard for what this class should be. The lectures feel more like watching someone do math problems in front of you instead of being taught anything. Most of my class were barely passing, do not take him.
Most of the class unfortunately did not do too well but he took that into consideration, offering multiple opportunities for bonus points after the midterm. If you are dedicated to doing well, he will see that. His lectures were OK, but he worked very fast. Overall, I simply enjoyed the challenge - class is not easy; he is pretty particular.
Dr. White comes off as very stern, but he is so nice! If you treat him with respect, you will get it in return. This semester was online due to COVID, so I can only speak on that. He used WebAssign for all assignments, with zoom meetings for lectures. This class was pretty simple, and he gave a few bonus assignments.
I am currently taking his class and by far it is the worst class I have taken. He never explains the math he's doing. He is constantly writing the wrong numbers. He even makes you feel dumb when you ask questions about what he is doing and how he got his answer. The homework assignments are so long it is like 80 questions.
Im starting to question if he actually knows what hes teaching at all, its very clear that he reads everything from the book and when he is asked a question for clarification he gets extremely flustered and offended that we dont understand everything right away. He also gets problems wrong constantly, making learning anything even harder.
Its a challenge because he writes down the wrong numbers and doesn't have clear handwriting. He's a nice person but pretty blunt.
So rude. He doesn't even understand his own material, he messes up at least 6 times a class on his own problems. He gets upset at students for not understanding what he teaches, but it is impossible to understand anything, even his handwriting. I would never take any of his classes again.
The subject material makes me want to cry at least once a week and homework assignments take me two hours minimum. Dr. White will explain things if you ask, and although he might sound a little short with you, he cares about you understanding it and genuinely seems like a sweet dude. Also super understanding about extensions on homework.
Dr. White is a very good professor. He tries his best to make sure everyone understands the material and will go over anything if you do not. Gives lots of examples for each section so you are familiar with all types. Very understanding person, as well. I would definitely take him for another class.
Dr. White was one of my best professors. He was so kind and was willing to help anyone who did not understand what he was lecturing on. I cannot even explain how many times he would halt lecture to help a student understand the concept. His tests were easy and fair if you did the homework and listened in class!
Very knowledgeable but does not convey the information to the students in a way they are able to learn. When asked for help, he seemed like it was bothersome to him, and would not proceed with helping. Would get frustrated with students in class when they would ask questions or ask to re explain a step in a problem. Responds to emails snarky.
My issue with his class is that he doesn't really explain the concepts in class very well, and makes a lot of mistakes while doing examples. If you already excel in mathematics you will probably be fine learning from the book. However, if you struggle with using primarily texts to learn you may want a different professor.
I wasn't great at this kind of math personally, but it wasn't particularly that hard, I just couldn't grasp it at time (I had a tutor help me). As a person he seems like a pretty nice guy, but he kinda sucks as a teacher. I had him online and he gave us bonus points for turning our cameras on and just saying hello.
Terrible professor.
Constantly makes mistakes in math problems, barely explains how to solve said problems, Assigns 50+ problems for homework, and his exams are impossibly hard compared to the homework. Did I mention that 80% of the class dropped within the first two weeks? Avoid at all costs. The only good thing I can say is he at least gives extra credit.
While Dr. White is a kind man outside of class, he is a rather lousy professor. Dr. White does not explain what he is doing at the board while teaching leading to confusion. He is also quick to anger when a student asks a question about something he did not explain. Avoid Dr. White if possible.
Pretty cool professor to talk to outside of class. Dunno what got him over the summer between the last few ratings and now, but he definitely seems like he's got a "dad" personality. He does make a lot of mistakes when it comes to his lectures. Overall, an enjoyable professor, though your mileage may vary.
I agree with the review below, he definitely has a "dad" personality, though he gets frustrated if nobody answers his questions. This class was easy if you took calc in hs, I found that the curriculum was exactly the same. His exams aren't super difficult either and there was always bonus. Review the homework and lecture notes and you'll be fine!
Horrendous course taught by a nice guy. You'll do new stuff every day, and your first exam will be your midterm. The following exam is like 5 weeks later and then there is a cumulative final. He has to give out boatloads of extra credit for people to pass the course, the 40 minutes allotted to take the exams were not near enough time.
Professor White has a specific teaching style, but if you engage with it, the class can be worthwhile. The lectures move quickly, so staying focused is key. unstuck study was a helpful supplement for preparing.
Worse math teacher iv ever had. You can't see his notes he writes, and does a horrible job explaining things. I just look up what he is teaching and learn it that way.
You'll do all the notes in class which really weren't difficult at all. As long as you do the notes in class and do the math lab hw I promise you'll be good to go. He also lets you have a piece of paper fro every exam to keep formulas and stuff on. 9/10.
