when he lectures his lectures are extremely long just beacuse he talks monotone, and tries to speak perfect english and keeps calling all of his guy students gary...i dont know why but its kind of weird.
His lectures are very boring and all he talks about is eye witness testimony.
I really enjoyed this professor...I thought his lectures were quite humorous at times.
His lectures get really long and he has lots of notes. He is kind of funny.
As long as you go to class, you'll get an A. Don't even bother buying a book if you go to the lectures because you won't need it. I loved this class.
Lecture is extremely boring, as he reads directly from his powerpoints-which are unnecessarily wordy and confusing. Tests are very hard, and his questions go into great detail. Don't take this prof...
This class is easy! You don't have to show up to class, but if you do he gives you extra credit. You don't even have to answer the questions right, you just have to be there. He does reviews before every test and tells you what to expect. The only downside is that he talks really slow and it takes some getting used to. TAKE THIS CLASS!
This professor is really great! If you ever need help with anything he will help you out! You dont HAVE to pay attention but it helps! His tests arent very hard and he gives you a lot to study from! He is a really good teacher and i'm super glad I took his class!! TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
He is absolutely hilarious. He offers tons of extra credit which I would take full advantage of as the tests are somewhat hard. He offers study sessions before each and every test. GO! If you go to that and go over your notes before the test you will def. get an A. I got a B and failed the first test. Goes into unneccesary detail at times but funny
Can be very monotone, but he posts powerpoints and study guides online, he also gives participation points for being there.. I hardly ever went to class and got a B.. So if you do go to class and study there is no reason you cant get an A.
Very nice guy and funny at times. class does get kindof long but overall pretty easy and fun at times. Prof is very helpful. Lectures a little boring. Overall im glad I took the class and enjoy it.
He thinks he is hilarious but people only laugh at his jokes to break the awkward tension.
His humor is lacking, though he thinks he's hilaious. He occasionally checks attendance through clicker questions and if you're not there you lose points for the day.
Very good prof. He repeats himself a lot but it is not bad. the tests are very hard.
He is a very sweet guy. He jokes in class and does try to keep it interesting with video clips and such. I would recommend him for Abnormal Psy.
Really cool guy, makes jokes during class to keep it interesting. The lectures are sufficient enough that I still haven't opened my textbook and have a B just from attending lectures.
I never went to class and still got a B. posts notes online. Don't try to take notes in class; he moves too fast. Gives lots of extra credit opportunities. Boring but detailed. Don't need the textbook.
Good professor. Very interesting course. Don't need to buy the book. He frequently makes jokes in class and provides good examples during lecture. Can talk fast, so I advise typing notes. If you attend the lectures/review sessions he provides and study there is no reason you shouldn't get an A.
Really good instructor. Test questions come from the book, his powerpoint notes, and his lectures. Gives lots of opportunity for bonus points. Pretty funny, and jokes around once in a while. Repeats things a lot, but it really drills it in to your head. Overall a very good class.
Nice guy, tried pretty hard to make the dry material interesting. His tests were a combo of powerpoint, lecture, and the book. Though the book was not used at all. I looked at it for some parts not covered in class and that was it. The paper on disorders was helpful for understanding but very unclear and graded differently than the rubric.
I actually enjoyed his class. He kept me engaged and was pretty funny sometimes. Didn't really need the book, but I used it to study and it helped. Should be able to get an A or B in the class without an issue.
clicker questions and SONA for extracredit. Fairly easy course, go to review sessions or listen to recording online. Classes are a little boring but the notes he gives you help a lot
The only reason I went to class was for the clicker questions. He gives a lot of extra credit and is mildly entertaining. If you have to take it from someone he is not that bad.
Professor Wise is a a great teacher who will provide several examples in his lectures and he offered us 25 extra credit point for the semester. We never had homework except for one 2 page paper, and he will drop your lowest test grade. Professor Wise is also very willing to help you outside of class!
Knows a lot about psychology an can teach it pretty well.
Makes a great effort to teach and help. He takes time out of his days before tests to hold review sessions that are incredibly helpful. Always putting in a good joke, even abiut himself, to get some laughs! I would highly recommend taking his courses if interested.
ONE OF THE MOST THOROUGH AND HELPFUL PROFESSORS I HAVE EVER HAD. LEARNED MORE IN HIS CLASS THAN SEVERAL OF MY OTHER CLASSES COMBINED.
Talks annoyingly slow and calls you out during lecture for being on your phone or laptop. Great teacher and cares about his students. Overall i enjoyed this class and his teaching. Theres no much to do. Lots of extra credit available and not a lot to do otherwise.
Very monotone voice but he really emphasizes what you need to know. Very clear. Highly recommended you go to class. Test questions are a little tough but as long as you are comfortable with the material you should be okay.
Dr. Wise tends to know his material and likes to repeat things in order to get it in your head. He was not very clear on his grading when it came to the papers so make sure you check your papers with him before they are due or else you might lose points you did not know you could lose points over. Overall his lectures are not too bad.
Wise is very clear and helpful. Pretty funny as well. Class was pretty easy if you read the book. Would highly recommend him.
Dr. Wise is amazing. His dad jokes are on point and his lectures and grading criteria are very straightforward and consistent. One of the best professors I've ever had.
If you can listen to him talk for an hour, you're over the hardest part. His lectures have a lot of good info though, and he posts some slides online if you don't want to go to class. He'll be more inclined to help you if you participate though. Beware of the required research participation and two long papers toward the end, but no other homework
Dr. Wise is a really good professor. There is only one paper assigned and it's easy if you know the material. He offers tons of extra credit. His lectures are very interesting, but he is pretty monotone. The class is easy if you pay attention. There are clicker questions for extra credit almost every day. He also gives review sessions for exams!
He is extremely knowledgeable about the topic of abnormal psychology. Any questions that were asked during class were answered and explained in a way that anyone would understand. His review sessions were extremely helpful and were all I studied for the exams, which I never received below an A on. Overall, I really enjoyed him as a professor.
nice guy, knows what he is talking about, but is not very good at teaching the information. It would be more beneficial to read the book and study on your own rather than going to his lectures.
He gives a lot of jokes (A LOT) in class lectures and definitely tries to keep students engaged. I honestly love his class!! He's so much fun to learn from, and I find myself really interested in what he has to teach. The tests are multiple choice and if you attend the lectures and read your chapter/go over notes, you shouldn't have a problem.
Dr. Wise knows his information and is very funny. His lectures are very interesting but you can access his power points online. He wants you to understand the info. Tests are just like his class examples and it helps to go to lecture in my opinion because then he gives good examples.
Wise is by far my favorite professor! He is so funny and makes the material interesting. Don't bother buying the textbook, you won't use it. Take your own notes, his are confusing. Listen on tegrity or go to his exam reviews, he goes over all the material on the test, just by doing these you will get an A on the exams.
Professor Wise is very knowledgable about the subject matter and cares a lot about the success of his students.
Dr. Wise was a very nice and caring professor. He wanted everyone to do well and even held review sessions before each exam so we could do better. He has study guides and practice exams for each exam. He will only test you on what is on the study guide and he usually curves the tests.
Dr. Wise is absolutely hilarious during lecture. There are clicker questions and in class activities that are graded so it is a good idea to go to class. He has reviews before every exam and if you take notes on them and study, you will get an A
Great dude, loves to tell awful dad jokes. Pay attention in lecture and go to his review sessions before exams and you should get an A on them. Also, definitely use his study guides & practice tests he gives you before each exam (they are practically the same questions on the actual exam, just reworded). Awesome lecturer, I would highly recommend.
Loved his class. He gives all information through the PPTs. you could skip class everyday but as long as you show up for the 2 review sessions before each class you would be okay. Loved the class!
He's the best professor in the Psychology department. He e xplain the material very well and he also conduct review sections. His reviews are very helpful. Make sure you attend his lectures because he make you understand the material faster.
one of the best professors I have had. teaches well and has good humor, is an overall good guy. highly recommend taking a course with him if you can.
He has clicker questions every class, where you earn full points for participation and can later earn bonus points on the amount you get right. He has the best dad jokes. He offers a review before each exam, including the final, where he goes over everything you need to know. Highly recommend him
I found him entertaining. He doesn't care whether you are on your phone or computer during class as long as you're not disturbing others. Only reason to show up to class is for clicker points and random in class assignments. Neither are hard, tests are average he does reviews and posts them online which is basically everything thats on the test.
One of the worst professors I've had here at UND. He is a terrible lecturer, repeats the content at least 3 times before moving on with new information. The tests are absurd, the questions are worded so strangely and there's absolutely no need for it. Would recommend taking this from ANY other professor.
Abnormal psych. Good professor, very entertaining and interesting lectures. Super funny. Tests were a lot harder than I expected though, especially for a pretty basic psychology course. I didn't use a textbook for the course and regretted it. This is not an easy-A class, but if you need a psych course, you will definitely enjoy this class.
Nice professor, really understanding. He offers extra credit through clicker points so class is mandatory if you want those. His tests are kind of hard, but as long as you study for them you should be good.
He usually makes jokes throughout the class which are funny but other than that the lecture can be a bit dry. He offers extra credit through clicker questions so it is a good idea to go to class. He does review sessions for the test that are somewhat helpful but the tests can be hard and the practice test online has nothing to do with the exam.
Dr. Wise is one of the best professors at UND. He gives plenty of opportunities for students to gain points with clicker questions and extra credit papers. Though his tests are challenging, they are more than fair. He goes out of his way to hold review sessions where he goes over all the material on the test. He is truly awesome and a good guy.
Wise is a good guy. I would take any class that he teaches. Sometimes the wording on his test makes it difficult to find the right answer. Study the night before you will be fine
He is a great guy, and his lectures are intersted. But his exam kind of hard because it is hard to get right anwser for some question.
So, I really only came to this class for the clicker points which ended up saving me at the end of the semester. I thought the practice test online was going to be what the real test was, WRONG! You need to actually put an effort into this class if you want to do well, I didn't. His tests can be very complicated, put a solid effort in and do ok!
This dude is chill. Laugh at his dad jokes and attend lecture (he explains topics very well). Take study guide notes and you should be fine. The course is interesting if you enjoy learning about mental disorders and neurological disease.
Dr. Wise really cares about his students. However, he can lecture for a very long time and sometimes it is difficult to pick out the relevant information. He REALLY knows his stuff though. Study hard for his exams because they are very, very difficult. Make sure you attend his exam reviews prior to any exam and take thorough notes.
Dr. Wise makes abnormal psychology interesting with anecdotes about his postdoctorate research. He also makes plenty of jokes, which keeps the topics light. He provides reviews for each exam, which cover exactly what will be on the test. Don't bother with the practice exams prepared by the TA, they are much harder than Wise's exams.
Richard is a cool guy but the class is kind of hard. You really gotta study to get a good grade. Focus hard on the paper that is assigned. He hands out candy and is willing to help. He always roasted me tho so if youre up for that.. he sends out all of the notes so thats nice a real cooky guy.
Dr. Wise is amazing! At firs t I struggled with the first exam, but he was nice enough to take time out of his day to help me better prepare for the next one. Not an easy class, you have to work for it but he does just as much hard work as you do! He has the best lectures and go to the reviews!! Definitely recommend! :)
He's a great professor who makes class fun with lots of jokes and includes interesting information about his research and work as a lawyer. The tests can be hard but he has a study session and practice tests that help. I would definitely recommend his class!
Very silly guy and if you like psych, he keeps the lecture interesting. Class is easy but the exams are tough but you can get by with a C if you barely or come to class. Attendance not mandatory but an easy way to boost your grade with EC and written assign's, he tells you whats on the exam in lecture so its recommended cause the app wont help.
He is a gem! He is super funny & keeps you interested in his lectures. Definitely, write notes bc his lectures are just a bunch of bullet points with bare min information. He does have iClicker points and in-class assignments he also gives a lot of retries on his quizzes but don't count on it.
What an amazing person and professor. He truly cares about his students, their grades, and making class interesting. He his hilarious, helpful, and kind. His exams and assignments are extremely easy and he is always willing to have a conversation about your grade. Take him if you get the chance- you wont regret it!
Great professor, grades fairly. You will need to work for the exams but they are fair. There are a few papers but htey are doable and he provides good feedback on them. Has a decent sense of humor.
Dr. Wise is the best! Just need to take notes off his lecture slides, and you should be good. His test review sessions are great because he basically goes over every topic that is on the exams. There is one paper that is kind of long, but it goes pretty fast. Take this class with Dr. Wise, he is hilarious and really cares about his students!
Dr. Wise is such a sweet guy and he make's jokes in the lecture. You really need to take good notes during the lecture and attend the study sessions before the exams. They are not easy. The exams will address very specific information so be sure to know almost everything taught. He grades on a curve so don't be too worried. Overall would take again
Dr. Wise is a really caring professor. Theres SO much extra credit offered for this course. The exams are straight forward, no trick questions and come from his lectures. He's truly a compassionate person and it shows within the way he teaches.
Dr. Wise was hilarious and genuinely cared about his students. However, his tests could be difficult and the overall grade depended on few things. Despite this, he was generous in curving grades and extra credit was available. Genuinely wanted us to learn the material and very knowledgeable. A very good class overall!
Wise is a great professor. He's super funny and cares about his students. There's not a lot of homework, the tests aren't hard, and he offers lots of extra credit. He's also willing to work with students if they're not understanding stuff. Really good guy, would definitely recommend.
I love him. such a jolly old man would take again. Makes class fun. Class and test is easy.
Professor Wise was a very funny and caring teacher, I really liked him as a person. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you will struggle if you skip too much. The main thing I disliked about this class is that your grade really only depends on your test grades, since there are only a few other assignments. Lectures can get a little lengthy ;).
Very nice, funny, caring professor. Definitely would not buy the textbook, it is not needed at all. Just go to lectures and take notes. He offers a lot of different extra credit options, which helps with grades a lot. Exams were fairly easy as long as you study.
Dr Wise is a nice guy but for the class being a 100 level class it was really difficult. You have to spend hours outside of class teaching the material to yourself because he just gives you bullet points. The extra credit clicker points are what is keeping me afloat right now. There's a two page paper you have to write, he gives you 2 months for it
Class is very easy if you show up and pay attention, he will tell you the exact questions that will be on exams. He loves in class participation and gives bonus points for answering clicker questions. He holds true to no changing grades after two weeks after being in blackboard, so be sure to keep an eye on that.
Dr. Wise is an amazing professor. He is very personable and is always happy to help. The course is exam heavy, with only 2 assignments, but he is very clear about what is on the test and gives extra credit and detailed reviews. He is very funny and you can tell that he cares a lot about his students. I could not recommend him more as a professor.
Richard Wise is a great guy and knows what he's talking about. However, this class is very difficult for a 100 level class. It's hard to obtain information from his lectures and a lot of learning has to be done on your own time. Studying is a MUST to be successful in this class - exams are difficult and could have multiple correct answers.
Only problem with him was lectures were SO boring because he talks at 0.5 speed. Posts the notes.
Richard Wise is super funny and likes to make his students laugh. Classes are mostly only lecture, but he makes it interesting with jokes and videos. Exams are difficult, but he holds reviews that goes over everything on the tests. He offers a good amount of extra credit too so it's hard to not pass the class.
You have to show up pretty consistently to understand the material. Not a horribly difficult class but is test heavy. There is 3-4 exams, a comprehensive final, a paper, and a lot of extra credit oppurtunities. I enjoy Wise, but found the way he lectures pretty boring and his notes can be disorganized at times.
Dr. Wise is the cutest old man. He gives out candy for answering questions in class and makes lots of jokes. He does Vevox questions in class that count toward your grade. Exams are not easy but he has review sessions that cover the relevant info and posts recordings of them. He definitely cares about student's sucess but can be a little old school
Professor Wise is a really fun lecturer and I definitely enjoyed going to his class. It definitely is important to buy and read the textbook because he does ask questions on the tests from there. If you answer a question he chucks candy at you which is kind of fun.
Professor Wise was a decent professor. I enjoyed his review sessions before exams, he covers almost all you need to know. I will say his exam questions can be difficult; even if you know the material well, you may struggle with his questions. He offers extra credit which is nice!
vevox questions during lecture for extra credit. EC paper, a few in-class assignments, 3 exams, a final exam, and a final paper. great guy and professor, just somewhat difficult exams. just need studying and preparation.
two thumbs up.
I would absolutely recommend to take this course with Dr. Wise! He is very knowledgeable and obviously loves what he does. You should attend as many classes as possible because this course is very lecture heavy and lectures are not recorded. Attend your classes, take notes, and pay attention, and you will do just fine!
Prof. Wise was fantastic. His lectures were straight to the point and he made the information easy to digest. He showed interest in each student's career goals and even set up a meeting with a current FBI director for me! Really enjoyed him and this class.
Professor wise has sometimes long but engaging lectures and it quite funny. If you do the practice exams and study materials he gives you, you will be just fine. He also offers extra credit for answering poll questions in class and throws out candy for participation during lectures. Is willing to work with you and really cares about your success.
Dr. Wise is a sweet old man that throws candy when you get an answer right. He is very lecture heavy. Attendance is not mandatory, but you get extra credit for answering in class questions. His lecture is lengthy, but will talk about what is on the exam in class.
Dr Wise is a very funny professor and clearly enjoys teaching. The only thing I will add is his organization method for assignments/notes is confusing as different chapters could be scattered or hard to find in blackboard.Very straightforward tests and a large extra credit opportunity that will boost your grade at least 7 percent.
Although class is only graded by 3 Exams, One paper and the final there is lots of opportunity for extra credit. Most of the class is lecture with some participation questions that he posts on the board that count for extra credit.
Loved Dr. Wise, I would definitley reccomend his PSYCH 111 course to anyone who wants a funny teacher who actually teaches. The exams can be difficult but if you pay attention in class and take the practice exams you should have no issuse getting good scores on the exams.
