Mr. Alley was a great teacher, he took the time to help any students who need it. If you did not understand what was going on in his class he would help you till you understood. He would be opened to meet with students one on one.

When I started with 111, writing was just homework to me, but after completing the class (with an A :)) than I decided I wanted to teach college English. He just loves writing so much and likes to help others like it too.

I took the class last fall. I had taken Alley before (ENG 111-112, 251 and 211) and I enjoyed his classes so much. His love of the subject is apparent an all of his classes, especially Creative Writing. I hated English when I started his 111 class but my the end of 112 I wanted to teach it! And at the college level! He really knows how to inspire.

He is a great english instructor, I highly recommend his class. I had him for both 111, and 112. He inspires you to write, he is very supportive in your papers that are submitted. He is pretty cool, and he likes to drum up small debates in class on certain social issues. Take his class, you will not be disappointed.

Mr. Alley is an excellent Professor. He is very passionate about the subject he teaches and actively engages and enlighten his students along the way. Mr. Alley has taught me for 111 and 112 and I will have him for 211 he is a BRILLANT teacher and my passion for writing developed with him as an instructor...very positive and always encouraging.

Took him online. Great teacher! He chooses great literature that will definately keep you interested. This class requires a lot of writing, but the assignments are spaced out enough so that it isn't so overwhelming.

Good professor. Recommended. First time I took a course online so it was a new experience for me. Didn't learn a whole lot but the work was fairly easy. Course is basically reading stories and writing essays.

I took Mr. Alley online over the summer. Super easy! Take this class! You won't regret it! He's great and always willing to answer any questions!

He makes his class verry intersting, there are lots of debates and class disscussions. He is verry understanding and dosent mind late work. There were 5 450 word essays and 1 5 page final but all of the essays had the same guidelines so it was easy. Easy class, great teacher.

He is the best english teach at TCC. I wish I had found out about him earlier because I would have taken all my English classes with him. He understands that you have a life out side of school. He doesn't rush things and his teaching skills are the best!!!

Super liberal, fixated on black oppression (he is white) and loves to stir up controversy while he watches students whine. Other than that, super easy and super helpful.

He is an excellent teacher. I had to put easy or hard in his ratings. It is not fair to say he is easy, because it sounds as if he passes students to pass them. He does not and you do learn a good bit from his class.

English 112 has been one of the most enjoyable classes I've ever taken. Mr. Alley is cool. No tests or finals, just writing assignments. His class is all discussion and he presents the material so that it's fun to learn. All of the discussions relate to today's issues and are interesting. If you need ENG 112, take Mr. Alley, you won't regret it

I had him for ENG 111 and 112...and he really makes class great! He knows his stuff, and he is genuinely interested in his students and how they do on their papers. I had A's in both classes. Best english professor around!

Professor Alley is hands down the best English teacher at TCC. At the beginning of the semester I groaned about the reading selections. But now as we come to the end I've realized that the diversity of reading has benefited me greatly. Professor Alley communicates wonderfully. No tests, just essays and discussion. I strongly recommend him!

I had mr. alley for my first online course. he's not tough, but he doesn't just pass you to pass. You have to earn it. I didn't think internet courses would be so great. TAKE HIM. He's awesome.

I love prof Alley. He's easily the best english teacher I've had, better than any in high school and college. For future english classes I'm trying to get him again. Good teacher, not too rough, knows what's really important about english (doesn't get caught up on stupid things like "the margins are an inch off" but is cool about it)

I took this online. It seemed daunting at first because there are several little books on the required list but he helps you to understand them and the essay assignments are thoroughly explained. Also, when he grades, he tells you exactly what you need to do to improve. Great class!

Took his online English 111 class- He is great! REad the selections and write your own take on subjects and you will be fine. He is very open to any suggestions on writing assignments and has very good feedback in reference to his grading.

Took this online. Super simple class. Read, answer discussion board and do the tests (four written responses to the readings). He is really nice and his comments on the tests are very helpful. He WANTS your opinion, so you have room to express yourself with no penalty!

I HATE ENGLISH CLASS! but Prof. Alley is AMAZING!! I took his online summer course. His BB page is organized and he provides great feedback on all essays. A must take instructor! (Please do yourself a favor, use spell check prior to posting on the discussion board. It's an English class) :)

Online summer class was very easy. Consisted of four 450-word essays, five 200 word journal entries and a revision to one essay of your choice.

Mr. Alley is great. I took him for 112 (in class). He always had a good debate going. His class isn't hard, just show up for class and turn in your papers. I'm taking him again this summer via online.. I would take him again if I had any English left!

WONDERFUL instructor! Took class online. Syllabus had all dues dates, was able to get assignements done ahead of time, only 4 essay tests which were easy. VERY willing to work with you if any problems, VERY positive and nice man!! I HIGHLY recommend him.

Best Professor ever so helpful

This teacher is easy to understand and is very enthusiastic about English. If you pay attention to what he is looking for and put effort into the papers you write you will receive an A. You will learn a lot in his class and I would definitely recommend that you take any of his classes.

I am not an excellent English student but Mr. Alley fully explains everything if you take good notes then you will do wonderful on his TAKE HOME tests. AMAZING English teacher! not picky on grammar errors for papers, I always get a 99 on a paper even with errors. 4 papers total, 450 words, then a 5 page research that was based off the last paper. He extended every due date. Even made a due date week to take off pressure of a pin point date. His classes are wonderful and he is a great teacher.

Alley is not only the best professor I have ever had, he is one of my closest friends. I have not been in his class in almost year, but I feel like I'm still under his guidance as a student. He is one of those teachers that you can go to for anything you need- academically related andor personal- he's an amazing person and a true friend.

Easy class if you listen to what he is teaching. Very willing to help with papers. There is a book needed but I never opened it once more for reference then anything. I found him to be funny and laid back. The last essay only had to be 5 pages.

Alley is like the "cool Uncle" that everyone wants to spend time with picking his brain for every little thing. I found his lectures inspiring and incredibly informative. He is on point, fair about grades, if you don't love to write, you will find yourself surprised to love it after you take this man's class.

I took the 10 week summer dynamic World Literature course on-line. Although there was a lot of information to read, Professor Alley had an "info" page that summed up several of them. He engaged the class. There were 4 essay tests and he gave awesome feedback.

There is absolutely NO reason anyone should NOT get an A in Mr. Alley's class. He will help you with anything you ask. He gives ample time to complete all assignments. He encourages you to come with any questions. He is by far the best teacher I've had at TCC.

This is a WORKSHOP CLASS. The quality of the class is dictated by the willing participation of the class members. That being said, Professor Alley could make a class of wet blankets an engaging discussion group. He does not cover specific forms of creative writing regularly, but you will still learn about writing, even if just through osmosis.

Mr. Alley's English 111 class is certainly recommended by me. He assigns five essays throughout the semester, all of which possess a 450-word minimum requirement, and if you write papers free of grammatical, punctuational, and spelling errors, and adhere to the given guidelines for the topic, you'll receive consistent As. He's also quite comical.

Someone once described him as "a small shepherd." Rick is a cup of Earl Grey with several published books of poetry. Writing Class Grandpa, 10/10 fav English teacher ever.

loved it. took online, summer 8 wk course. - no book. Lost of positive feed back. Journal entries every week only need to be 100 words + your response to another writer. 4 essays for 100 pts each, only have to be 450 words. and some reading as prompts for essays. Very light but engaging work.

Summer 8 week course. 3 persuasive essays, 10 journal entries with responses. No textbook, all readings were provided. Work was light, but engaging. Better feedback than most instructors. Topics were thought provoking. Highly recommended.

Rick Alley is the best English teacher! If you are taking his class get ready for a great time. He is an old soul with a hippy vibe, totally awesome! Hes so kind and understanding of everything. He reminds me of a guidance counselor almost. He loves hearing what you have to say and hes open to all types of writing! He also loves cats!!

Mr. Alley is the coolest English teacher I've ever had. His lectures are pretty much open discussions and relaxed. Journals are the only real "classwork", but we didn't do them everyday. Also, when there is an essay due, you can email him and ask him to proof read your essay. He gives good feedback and believes in encouragement.

Great prof. For an English class there's a lot of controversial matter, and feel like a psych class in a way. You write four 450-600 word essays and a business cover-letter and one group presentation. Easy A.

He expects you to make a Journal(150-word ct.) per week, discussion boards and a total of 4 essays. No book required. You must take him! His online class is great!

Professor Rick Alley is one of the best Professors on campus. He always understands the situations your going through outside of class and always inspires you to keep going. He is excellent in English literature and well knowledgeable on how to help a student. I'd take him a million times over if I could. I highly recommend him!

This class was a breath of fresh air in my extremely stressful semester. Dr.Alley is so well-versed in English and is a bright light in my schooling experience. I loved this class and would take it again. It got my creative flow moving and kept me afloat for this semester. There will be 4 graded submissions and a story due each week.
