I really enjoyed him, he was easy to get along with. Fun teacher,m pasionate about his job.
Taking notes off him is impossible, the questions on his quizzes and tests come from small facts he might mention once in class, and the textbook was worthless since he went on his own trip of bs for the entire semester. Stay away from this guy!
if you want to pass this class, study the cdrom questions and the www.prenhall.com/fagan website as he takes ALLLLLL the quiz questions off of them. i discovered this too late =(. go to class take notes, everything he says might be on test.ugh! good luck!

I had to drop his class. boring says bs and f a lot. difficult to take notes and his notes are helpless. quizzes ask small details that no one would noteice. take Stan Copp for Arch if you can.
very flexible and understanding...if he sees that you put the effort into his class, he'll give you a good mark..his classes are boring though, drink lots of coffee before going to class...SNORE!

This teacher was horrible! The class was so stressful because he was so disorganised! On the final, people just left part way thru because there were aspects of it that we had never learned. His marking is arbitrary and you have to know tiny details!
Wow, this was such a waste of my time, $$ and energy!! He was THE WORST prof. I've ever had--totally unorganized, very **** and he has no concept that there are people in the room with him when he goes off into his little rants. Don't waste your time!!
Great guy, TERRIBLE teacher! At least he doesnt pretend otherwise though- likes to have fun, but at expense of learning anything. If you kiss ass you will get a good grade.

Good sense of humour, and very laid back. Very disorganized though - includes things on the exams which we didn't tacklein class - he can't remember what he's taught. Exams not as easy as expected because of topics not taught. Basis for marks- ambiguous.
This is a great class. Rick is an awesome teacher with a good knowledge base.

His class was a waste of my time. Sure, I got an A, but all I didn't learn anything. He was very disorganized, rude, and didn't seem to know much about anything. If you're looking for an easy A, but a waste of time, take his class.
Totally relaxed, funny guy. Great sense of humour, but doesn't sugar coat anything. People who take themselves too seriously probably will not get along with him. Just listen, take notes, enjoy. Easy, interesting, would take another course with him in a second.
Not clear, lacks detail, reads from books(boring), course is a very brief survey (more than it should be), poor lesson planning and lab instruction, undeveloped curriculum. Didn't learn much. Can be funny but also very moody.

Rick is an awesome teacher, very funny and makes class very interesting. Make sure you hand in all the labs and do well on quizzes because they count for 50% of your mark. Just come to every class because he does write some stuff on the board that is not in the book but is on tests . Have fun.
He's very disorganized and so boring. He doesn't tell you his expectations or plan tests or anything else in advance leaving you with no opportunity to ask questions cuz he doesn't know the answers yet. He's a fairly easy marker and it's an easy course, but so boring!

He is an excellent teacher and he is very funny. He will always put a smile on your face. He is very real and puts things into perspective. Not the ordinary type of teacher but a great one. Take notes because alot of what he says will be on the tests. Overall an A+ teacher.

He was funny, had a lot of stories, but when it comes to teaching he wasn't very good. People rarely showed up. He was a good life lesson teacher. I think he was a bad teacher because he had so many things going at the same time. His mind isn't in school. He loves to take pictures and write.

Very funny teacher. Never a boring class. If you ask him what will be on the quizzes and you LISTEN to his answer you'll be fine. Treats people like they're human, not a bunch of GPA monkeys. Is genuinely interested in the topic.
Nice teacher and very willing to answer or clarify anything. Funny and loves to tell little stories. Open and honest. Not too hard a marker, but doesn't give out A's easily and never A+'s on subjective assignments. I liked him.
Funniest instructor on campus!!! nevera dull moment in class with Rick B! However he is quite the scatterbrain and won't remember anything...even what you have covered and wil be on tests! Easy marker especially if you make personal contact!this is the anthropology instructor to choose!
Great guy! Funny. Make sure you take notes in class. Sometimes it can be too funny and relaxing in class you forget. Need notes to be able to do well on exams. Fairly easy marker. I just loved the guy!
Rick is very knowledgeable about thid course. I have taken ANTH 1150 and 1180 from him. I am probably the oldest student he has ever had, but we get along great.
Very layed back teacher and class, but don't think you don't have to take notes, listen and attend class. You make an effort you will do well. Personally he is an awesome guy!
Lazy, funny, out of it. so chill. over all a nice harmless man who probably should not be teaching. I think I liked him though.
all about the archaeology, hes very funny, very interesting and his tests are centered on class notes--- also-- he does favour and is more lenient towards students that show interest and aprticitpate-- if u can manage these things then u're sure to get an A...overall the easiest A i ever got
make sure you keep track of your assignments and marks, because he can lose things and then not get a mark for an assignment.....

A great prof!! Very enthusiastic, helpful, funny, and intersting. He helps make the course more interesting with intermitten stories and anecdotes. Sometimes a little hard to follow but if you attend class and stay on top of your assignments you'll get a great mark.
hmm~ I dunno if its just because I'm not that good in archaeology, but its was really hard for me to follow in his class and I had a hard time passing his midterms and tests. I've still got the final to go, and I did half of it today and it was terrible. STUDY DATES!!! even if he says you dun, he is LYING~ STUDY IT!!! ALL DATES! *SPECIFIC*
A really nice person and he is a great resource as he is still a working consulting anthropologist here in BC and has a lot of interesting stories. Not the most organized instructor so make sure you pay attention in class.
this guy is terrible, so unorganized hard to learn anything, has tough time making a point or making his points make sense. random blurbs of info all over place. this course with me has made me never want to take an anthro course again

This class is freakishly easy! He is somewhat disorganized but it doesn't really effect his teaching. Many good stories and he is quite funny at times.
Rick is hilarious and tells lots of stories. Also, his class is really easy as long as you read the text book and pay attention in class. Nice to everyone, even the students who slack off and ask stupid questions.
Rick is a great teacher who loves his work. He is a very understanding teacher who is willing to help in class or if you go to his office. Rick is quite scattered at times but hasn't been a problem. His quizes are unexpectedly hard but his exams are okay. He is funny and goes on great rants at times durring class and trys hard to make it fun.
Rick is a hilarious teacher! How much have I learned about archaeology? Probably not much, but its easy to do well in class, just go to the lectures. Everything on the exam he has gone over...he is a bit disorganized, but it doesn't really affect anything.
Blacklaws' Intro to archaeology class is extremely easy to ace if you actually show up, take notes & study the material in the textbook. His quizzes were EASY; he gives you the definition & u give him the term. The lab was easy too. His notes are messy & his midterms were kinda hard though...so study. ...btw, he's SUPER hilarious & he swears a lot!
He enjoys slipping in an occasional usage of sarcastic swearwords (hillarious when done), His life stories and experiences are more interesting than his class/course itself. His Teaching method is all over the place- However, he does make his point; in the end. Overall, class is boring.
Rick is very passionate and knowledgeable in his field. He presents the material in a fresh way, and his expectations are very clear. his notes are scattered, but read the textbook and write down EVERYTHING he writes on the board!! you will get a great mark :)
Rick is funny, a little scattered but effective at getting his message across. One of the easiest classes I've taken. Do show up for class and try and you will get a good mark. Midterms are a little tougher but overall, an enthusiastic, fun, knowledgable man.
Worst teacher I've ever had. He cancelled class without posting them because he didn't want to clear it with the teachers union. He tried to relate to the students through alcohol stories. Laughs when he hears people cheating in the next room during a test and says he should have gone into psych. Lets people chat every class during his lectures

Your run of the mill, somewhat excentric archaeology teacher. Really passionate about what he's teaching and has some hilarious stories. Occasionally runs off topic but definatly knows his stuff. You'd be silly to have doubts in taking his class. As long as you take the class seriously you'll do exceptionally well.

Not recommended at all. He is scatter brained and goes off on random tangents all the time. His tests are straight forward enough, but he's a terrible marker. He forgot to mark an entire essay question of mine once. If I hadn't talked to him, I would have had a whole letter grade lower on my midterm. He is a terrible teacher. Not worth the A I got.
this is the worse teacher I have ever had. He is all over the place in class and is always talking about TED (this wed site he makes you look at in class when he is too lazy to teach you). Near the end of turm he stopes teaching our class and started to read off essay he had written. His midturm was hard.
Rick's classes are totally unorganized. He takes forever to respond to emails and even when he does he is not answering the question you asked. His classes are easy but seriously frustrating because you have to do a lot of work to figure out what is going on. I don't even think he reads half of the handed in work.
He's such a funny guy and is very laid back about a lot of things. If you walk out half way during his class, he'll wave you goodbye. He doesn't have really real notes to speak of; just scribbles on the blackboard. You have to remember and take down things he said because they will appear on the exams.
EASY. If you need a GPA boost then take his class! he is totally unorganized most of the time but if you study the stuff he puts on the website you are sure to pass. do the work, and you'll do fine. Simple.

I had a hard time taking notes. I don't think he ever completed a sentence. He constantly lost his train of thought and would take long pauses. He is not knowledgeable. I would not recommend taking his class.
Funny yes. Boring yes. Useful not so much. Organized I don't think that he knows the meaning of this word. He is hard to follow and will say things twice using different words to emphasize a pretty pointless point. Bring lots of coffee to his class or you will fall asleep.
THE MOST AWFUL TEACHER IN THE WORLD. Unorganized, ignored my requests for help, generally useless & incompetent. Comes to class with no structure at all--absolute mess. Don't take it if u need a gpa booster either.
He spends the first half hour of the class trying to figure out what he's supposed to be teaching that day. He had no idea what our Midterm was out of, and he grades on a curve. Everything you need to know is online, inclass stuff is a waste of time. I'd recommend doing the online course not inclass, he can't teach at all
tells you almost everything on the exam and midterm and quizes. He does spend first 1/2 hour figuring out what he is going to lecture on but its funny and good at 830am. Would take this class again he is entertaining and loves archaeology. Dont think he reads the essays you write just gives a random mark. Not cumulative is nice. pretty easy mark
Worst ever. He told us class was "entertainment"- he prefers the online method of teaching and utilizes the blackboard, which for me wasn't a very good system. The thing that bothered me was that he didn't kick out badly behaved, chatty people. Paying attention was extremely hard. I'm waiting until I transfer to SFU to retake the class.
The Worst. I took his online class so this only applies to that but he was completely incompetent and aloof. His notes are packed full of grammatical errors and spelling mistakes that make them nearly impossible to understand. He ignored any attempt to contact him. He gave us false information that made our project impossible to research! Terrib
AWEFUL! Wastes half the class pretending he doesn't know how to use computers, and bumbles on about useless crap. Do yourself a favor and wait till you get to another school to take this class. Never uses the textbook and half his information online is useless, repetitive, and doesn't even address some of his questions on the test.
He teaches using the internet as a resource, yet doesn't know how to use a computer. Half the time of class is spent telling him how to get to "google.com". I never even opened my textbook once. It's easy to get 100% on labs, and a decent mark on quizzes seeing as they are online and he gets all his questions straight off wikipedia.He is funny tho

No point in attending class, he uses Blackboard for everything. Quiz questions are unclear and the answers are often vague (or in chapters not assigned for reading). Impossible to get a hold of for missed quizzes so make sure you mark your calendar for the randomly and sporadically placed online chapter quizzes. Will have to redo this course.
worst. his notes are from god know wher plus they are so confusing. Doesnt use the book yet his quiz m/c questions are from the book. Paragraph and final exam essay questions are impossilbe to answers. Information given is all over the place making it exteremly diffcult to answer final exam essay question. Worst class ever taken. Tottaly killed it.

Interesting course material and easy online format. Blacklaws was helpful in person and took time to help explain the course after I registered late. Every module has a quiz, often including terms not even once in our text(hard). Group work is annoying as alot of people in online courses take them for a "break"=difficulty. no final exam!!
First of all. I don't think he's read the textbook as most of my answers are right in the textbook but wrong according to his answers. His inability to spell correctly makes it extrememly hard to understand what he is trying to say. I don't think he proof reads his work. Very frustating. It's an easy course to get a passing grade in.
Rich is super easy going. Good format for quizzes and tests. However his lectures are very very pointless and not prepared though he knows his stuff. He just can't seem to get it across. Lets you hand in late work without fuss. A nice guy.

Go to class!! I suggest taking the section offered half online with him. In class he tells you the exact question he will ask on the midterm. The multiple choice section quizzes are based on the text. Funny guy but needs to learn how to use the internet! It makes the class somewhat entertaining...
Rick is great, but not everyone likes his teaching method. This course is interesting and relatively easy. Buy used text. He does not require the latest edition. Archaeology doesn't change much (his words).
Great course and organized well. 5 quizzes, 3 essays, 1 term paper. No midterm or final. Midterm is one of the essays and the final is your paper. Easy to follow and a great gpa booster along with learning about BC.
This was one of the better classes i took. He is a great teacher and the course was very interesting! I would take this class if you can!
His class would be wonderful if it was online, I took the class in person. Slow, boring lectures that are incomprehensible, numerous erroneous points in every lecture, confusing emails, lack of structure or apparent fair grading system. I feel like I didn't learn anything new in this class (personal opinion). He does bring very good guest speakers.

I took his class a long time ago however one thing he gave me was the gift that kept with me throughout my university degree. He had passion and he passed that on. He will seriously be one of my all time favorite people and educators because of that. Thank you Rick.
Honestly, he seems like a nice enough guy, but his lectures are all over the place. He tends to go off on random tangents in the middle of his lecture so I have no idea where to stop and start taking notes... and I end up with no notes. He is vague, his "exams" are unclear, and his view of the wold and anthropology is very white and anglo saxon.
Very insightful and friendly teacher, really enjoyed his class. A little bit of problems with technology but it's not really an issue. Very leaniant on time, directly tells you what will be on the test as long as you pay attention. You can be successful as long as you learn/memorize what he wants, I recommend him for sure!

You have to work for a good mark, but he is very clear about the criteria so it can be done. He also provides notes in D2L to make notetaking as painless as possible.
didnt make clear what test was online and what was in class. he is a nice professor but i dont think i will take a class with him again.
Great guy, not a great lecturer. Rambles and confuses people. But his notes packages are awesome, and he is super happy to explain anything in person (I think he just hates public speaking.)
Confusing course, often had little to no idea of the actual criteria or what we were supposed to learn from any reading. When contacted by email he was quite rude, so I gave up trying to decipher his instructions and muddled my way through. That said, he is an was marker.
I found him very confusing, and highly UN responsive or at least with useful response to email. His grading seemed arbitrary and there was never any feedback provided. His course layout was confusing and babbling. I would NOT take another course with him.
I was excited to take this class and maybe Rick is excited to teach it, but execution was not 100%. I did all the readings before before tests and sometimes the answers on the online test did not match to the readings - frustrating. He has messy spelling & grammar. Still got an A. It helps that I enjoyed the content and had fun writing the paper.
