He is the sweetest guy EVER! He brings in listening samples to break the routine of lecturing. Notice when he puts the samples on how he taps his feet to everything. A really GREAT guy!

Puts the class notes online so class is optional. Exams are multiple choice and he uses a scantron sheet which he is OCD about.

Easiest class ever...notes online....class is basically optional attendance. You sit there and listen to music all class. An easy A if you like music! Very helpful with makeups too....just bring a Dr's note!

Class exams are easy and multiple choice (no attendance, quizzes, etc.) but as of spring 2004, he is removing online notes.. looks like class is required if you want to pass. Other than that, he's a good guy and knows his music. Very knowledgable.

No more online notes! Attendance is still optional but it's probably easier than reading the book. His lectures are wicked boring and the important points aren't too obvious when he throws tons of information at you. Music he plays is a little loud.

Can be an a$$ sometimes like refusing to show grades for a few minutes when he's already on the web. Throws a lot of info during lectures, should have an outline for us to follow. Lectures get boring at times but easy class overall.

History of Rock N' Roll. Very good teacher but is biased in the history towards doo-wop and that sort of thing due to his background in doo-wop. Other than that teaches well tests are easy if you go to class and very knowledgable.

GAH! Speaks as the book *word4word*, can't follow lectures cause its /not/ his own thoughts. No personal insight, dull, bad jokes. Old class notes a must for *random trivia* on tests. Reluctant 2 listen 2 students. Attendance, particp dont count! >:O

nice guy, he really tries to be interesting but he just really isn't. i had such a big class in 153 that he didn't do attendence. by the last class there were 6 people showing up to class. test directly from online notes. don't buy book, don't go to class

His class was ridiculously easy when I took him but now from what I hear he is harder compared to before. he no longer has an attendence policy but all the grade is based on exams. This WAS the easiest class at UMD

If you need an easy grade, this is the class to take. Don't bother buying the book. Less & less people show up to class as time goes on. Can be boring at time but overall, it's a bearable class.

This is the easiest class. There are notes for it everywhere. On the tests all the true/false are true straight from the notes. Easy A!!!

As long as you have the notes printed out for you, you'll do fine. The material is somewhat interesting. Not a huge fan of the prof. It's an easy class to take care of a gen ed. You don't really need to go to class. 4 exams total.

Do not take this class! It is not nearly as easy as you would think. Brought down my GPA tremendously and I had the notes typed up and went to every class ... STAY AWAY IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR GPA!!!

BORING class. One of those classes where you take notes for 2 months and take a 50 ? test on it. He had a creepy laugh. Don't worry he WONT blow up while playin the sax although he looked like it. Show up to class and dont take it @ 8:00 in the morning cus i never showed up to it.

I don;t know what everybody's problem is this is one of the best professors anybody can ever have. Funny as hell, great laugh, interesting material. What more could you need. I missed 9 classes and still got an A.

The easiest class I have ever taken and probably will ever take. The tests were a breeze, although most people don't come to class and cheat on tests. There was never any homework (except to read) and no papers or anything. The class itself was somewhat interesting. He did have some annoying ticks, i.e. his laugh. He also was a jerk sometimes.

Very clear about what's going to be on the test. You don't even need to show up to class, as long as you do the readings then you're golden. His notes are perfect anyway.

thought this would be an easy class, so wrong. its hard to figure out what to study for the tests. class is interesting, only assignments are reading, but exams are difficult for a 100 level.

Took this class as a senior, and the test were so hard for a 100 level class. Impossible to figure out what to study for the exams, and asks the stupidist trick question/irelevant questions to understand the history of american rock and roll. the coure material is interesting but the professor is horrible!!! will bring down your GPA gaurenteed.

This guy can be a complete jerk! Tests are easy enough if you have the notes from previous years and can memorize everything on them...like anyone has the time for that! Very unhelpful, and at times very very rude!

i dont like this teacher at all. i simplystopped going to the art and historyof rock class. within 15minutes i was bored to death. never could figure out what to studyfor and he just doesnt have a good wayof teaching this course

all i have to say is find someone with the notes from a couple years ago when he used to post them and you will be golden. i went to this class once the whole semester and got a B by reading over the notes once right b4 the test. if you dont have the notes good luck...

really easy.. if you have the notes, the test is copied right off of them. if you miss a test your screwed. make ups are almost impossible. attendance doesn't count.

He is a good guy who means well. He is really into music and if you take his class you will learn you so much stuff you could never know. If you are interested in the real history for music then you will enjoy this class because he really knows what he is talking about. also, its easy to cheat on the exams cause 1 in 3 people have the answers

crazy man who loves to hear himself talk. means well, very easy class. attendance doesnt count and tests are extremely easy. but be prepared to be kept 5 minutes after class is supposed to end so he can repeat himself 50 times, like i said, loves to hear himself talk

Loves to talk and talk and talk some more. The tests are easy and you don't have at attend classes to moderately well on the tests. I went to class regularly, but it wasn't ever a problem when I skipped.

history and art of rock and roll... easy.. just try to get the notes from class and ull do fine, so people even have the answers to the tests, but i hear he switches the answers around in a different order. i walk in on test day, and see about 3/4 of the kids with answers. attendance isnt necessary.

No need to go to class. Tests are easy since you will have the answers. He gets really crazy on test day but since test days are the only days you will see him it's fine. 4 exams and no final.

history of rock and roll, sounds like an easy class right?the average student will get a D, because he is unreasonable.if you dont cheat and have the answers to the test you will do horrible. this guy is mean and dosnt care about any one but himself. attendance dosnt matter because the test is so jumbled up he dosnt know the answers himself.

Ok this class brought down my GPA , unless ur interested in rock n roll music by some1 who jsut stands there n talks the entire time, then u might do Ok, but most ppl dont show up to class. So i suggest get notes from some1 or drop the class. and hes a jerk. and the lazyest person i know.

Knows what he is talking about. Class can be very intresting and you will learn alot if interested in music. Having the tests won't always help becuz I believe he is getting wise and is starting to change the tests considering not all the answers are on there. Laugh is annoying.

Many students see "Rock'n'Roll" in the class name and think this is a cake class. It's a history class. He tests on dates, names, important events, everything else you'd see on a history exam. Too many UMass students want to be babied through all their classes, this guy won't but at least he's up front about it. He's not rude, just really blunt.

Professor seems to think he knows what he is talking about, yet reads everything! Lectures are long and boring and do not go in order. Notes and tests are not as easy as one would think - nor are the tests the same (as they used to be). Professor talks a lot about himself and his studio and has a very annoying laugh!

Makes a lot of jokes that aren't funny. Talks constantly and I could never figure out what to write down. Scales the tests so its difficult to fail, but the test are difficult.

Laughs at his own jokes. Doesn't repeat stuff really. DON'T NEED A BOOK. There is SO much stuff to remember. He uses the SAME stuff each year. It's not a slacker class like it seems. You study when stuff happened, who was involved,companies, technology, what happens next. EACH CLASS ID CRUCIAL. If you use prev. notes,you don't need to show up.

Easy class. He lectures like a history channel documentary. Extremely boring. Turns into a psycho on test days. You don't need to go to class except for test days. Study EVERYTHING on the study guide he emails and you'll be all set.

Wicked easy class. Even if you dont have the notes, just make sure you write down names, people's nicknames(he tests on EVERY person's nickname), and dates. Britto is very arrogant, unhelpful, and just a terrible person in general. He started out his lecture on rap by telling us that he hopes that "Eminem and 50 cent get shot 5 times each and die"

If you're looking for a class you can blow off, this is the one. I only showed up four times, for each of the tests. Don't buy the book- it's 100 dollars and you'll get 3 dollars back for it at the bookstore. Britto's an ass but I got a B- witout doing anything.

This guy is a joke theres 4 tests so you go for 4 days out of the semester. Talk to a Sophomore and get the answers there not real answers but study them and bring them to the test and you'll do fine.

He is not as bad as everyone says and is extremely approachable when you actually make the effort to speak with him. His tests aren't that easy but he scales them all so it doesnt really matter

I just started this class and he doesn't seem bad at all. He requires attendance, the book (the old version! cheaper!), and iclicker now and everything is online now. We'll see how it goes.

Terrible professor. Goes crazy on test days. Tests are not easy. Class is scaled so you probably won't get as bad a grade as you think. Although the class looks like it will be cool, it is not. It's boring as hell.

I hate Rick Britto. Worst teacher I've ever had. He's **** and **** and has THE creepiest laugh I've ever heard. The tests are hard and they're basically the only grade you have. He always name drops and often has his facts wrong about suprisingly a lot of the stuff he's teaching. I'm a music enthusiast and I always fell asleep.

Really hated this class. britto thinks he is amazing and god-like. i never really went but when i did i feel asleep or left upset about what he said. look over the study guide b4 exam and show up on time of it and you will be fine. he drops the lowest grade including attendance.

Very interesting material! Do not buy the book, his lectures and study guides tell you everything. Very passionate and knowledgeable. If you're in a bad mood or a wiseguy, he may annoy you. My exams averaged to a B. Remember your iclicker! I always forgot mine.

The course description makes it seem like this is going to be a wicked cool class. Let me make it very clear to you that these are nothing but horrible, HORRIBLE LIES. It's boring as hell, the teacher's a psychopath and it's an overall miserable experience. Feel free to take it, but you have been warned...

This guy is a weird dude. He'll swear a lot in class and think he is funny, but he's not he's just weird. His tests are not easy, but the whole class is scaled. He drops your lowest test score and replaces it with your attendance grade if it is high, so remember your iClicker. I got a B by taking a good amount of notes and studying somewhat.

I just graduated from UMD, and had this guy in my last semester of classes. He was quite possibly the lest professional and personable professor I had in my five years there. He made up facts, was rude and insulting to his class, and would yell at imaginary noisy students during tests. Avoid this guy like the plague if you want to enjoy this class.

This professor is quite full of himself, to say the least. After taking his lecture I have little respect for him as anything but a musician. The class is a joke, there have been copies of the exams floating around for years and even without them it's not hard to do decently if you show up. On the whole, though, there are better electives at UMD.

WORST PROFESSOR. offers no make-up exams, at all, ever. put me to sleep with his lectures. i found out after i took this class that there were answers to his exams floating around. i DO NOT recommend that you take this class if you don't have the answer key. i didn't. i barely passed this class.

Britto's a jerk. He swears at his students for no reason and really shows them no respect. For an interesting subject matter, his classes are LONG and BORING. Wxams are hard but there are multiple copies of each out there somewhere anyway. There are better electives out there than his class, so your best bet might be to just stay away.

When i went to the first class I thought it was going to be really interesting. His lectures are SO boring and you HAVE to have your i clicker to pass the class. He goes crazy on test days and he always repeats the test procedures.

He talks inefficiently, and his lectures are tedious. I didn't buy the book and took really goo notes and ended up with a good grade, so it's not hard. Just show up with your iclicker and pay attention in class.

Easy class, but he teaches false statements so musical knowledge does nothing. Thinks he knows everything and knows nothing. He says Little Richard wrote Twist and Shout when he never played the song was really The Four Tops, plays The Isley Brothers version and swears it is Little Richard. No knowledge gained in this at all.

he NEVER stops talking and there is not a chance you will get out of class early. extremely boring. Attendance is taken in the last minute of class. the guy treats students like dirt. laughs at his own bad jokes all the time. NEVER ask a question on test day because he will wont shut up for the next 20 minutes

Kind of annoying, but interesting guy. He is wrong a lot. Sometimes he says the wrong dates etc by mistake and I got it wrong on the test. Don't buy the book, you wont use it. Is not AT ALL lenient with things like missed tests, if you forget your iclicker etc. Easy class as long as you don't mind studying for the exams. Taking good notes helps.

I hated attending his class! He talks nostop and does not correct himself when he sometimes says nonfactual things. His laugh is something else though. Attendance helps your grade out in the end. He gives out 4 tests and if you fail one, your attendance grade can make up for it.
