Hands down the most boring prof I have had at CMU

He is a funny teacer who makes the class interesting. The work in the class is not bad. He is a good teacher.

I love him I think he really knows his stuff and is a cool laid back person. He is just flat out a cool person and a good Prof!!

The first test he gave was a complete mess, but he did curve the grade. He is pretty funny, and willing to reason with students when it comes to grades. I got an A- in the class, but alot of other students didn't do too well. Lots of material..STUDY!

I don't know what the hell is wrong with everyone else, but Rick is great. He gives the class and each of its' students the amount of effort that they put in. He is extremely learned and personable; if you can get him a class, jump at the chance.

I like Rick. He's very personable and he often times lets us out of class early. When his exams are hard, he usually curves them or adds extra credit so it's cool.

Rick is very personable. this is my 3rd class with him. He's got wacky tests but he usually curves them. Doesn't give a lot of extra credit. Tries to make boring stuff interetesting and does a pretty good job. If you're taking persuasion with him don't buy the book.

Love this class. It is so much fun and Buerkel is hilarious. Really fun teacher. Prolly smokes pot on the side. Pushover with turning in stuff late. Know all vocab. Reviews for class. Heard his sister is a harder teacher.

Don't listen to the comments how he pushes his view on politics or things like that on his class. not true. he is the most politically correct person on the planet. don't buy the book for 365, i've had 2 classes with him. you will survive. not the most interesting class ever but you will survive

I had Buerkel for two classes last semester and he is awesome, I would recommend him to anyone.

Buerkel is HILARIOUS. He really tries to make his lectures one on one with the students. Although he has some quirky mannerisms, Rick is a genuine and great prof. Fun times...even though I am not interested in communication, he has inspired me to pay more attention to those oddities arround me that communication entails. Loved the class...if you wanna have a good time, Go Buerkel.

I HEART DR. BUERKEL! His crazy stories make speech almost a fun class. He likes to eat peanut butter on his hot dogs and yeah the bird story is hilarious!

I love Mr. Buerkal! He is absolutely hilarious. I hate public speaking but he makes the class worthwhile to go to. Ask about the bird/bike incident. He's really cool about late work too. He makes all of his pwr pts. and study guides available on blkbrd. I want to take another class w/ him!

Very, very good professor who seems to love what he does. He's laidback even though we still take notes from his PowerPoints and give three speeches. Prof. Buerkel is fair at grading too. Just don't stress out about this class, and you'll enjoy it.

Buerkel is an interesting and amusing prof but his tests are hard!! You get out early alot and he puts powerpoints on blackboard plus in class assignments and group projects are easy points. Good class but you HAVE to study for exams, they are a big part of your grade

I friggin Love Burkel. He was so funny, I had him for 2 classes and he only was interested in helping students understand the material. He didnt want to bore anyone, and He is the best professor out of all the communication teachers I had so far!! Test are hard, but ummm...WERE IN COLLEGE!!! Buerkel is nice and really funny. He covers the material well, not that the material is hard. He is helpful and makes speech class fun. Which I would have never believed because I dreaded this class SO MUCH! I am terrified of public speaking. But it has turned out to be my favorite class this semester. I would highly recommend taking this class.

Great teacher, and has great cheesy jokes. Great class!

His class wasn't hard and I learned a ton and got an A. The journals are a pain, but they're easy too. I just hated doing them. He's very funny and makes class entertaining. Despite this, the exams aren't easy. Make sure you study.

The grading of speeches is somewhat random. NEVER use the word UM in a speech! He's nice about attendance, but if you miss an activity you miss the points.

He's a fun person and understood that none of us really wanted to be there. He pushed through the material, sometimes at the cost of the students since we would have to learn the material he missed from the book and weren't always well prepared for the exams. A little harsh with grading sometimes, but overall, an okay class.

Prof. Buerkel was really great, especially in Gender Communication. You can definitely tell that the topic fascinates him and that he enjoys teaching it. He has an amazing sense of humor and he is a pretty flexible and understanding guy when it comes to clarification or special circumstances on assignments. He knows how to get people involved!

Don't skip a speech day, the rest don't matter too much. Exams aren't "easy," but they aren't too difficult.

Buerkel was a very friendly professor who was willing to help in any way that he could. He was a tough grader on the interviews, and the midterm hurt my grade early on. Very informative class, and he treats you like the adult you are. He presents the material and allows you to do what you wish with it.

I've taken him before and there is a reason for that! Rick is absolutely awesome and seriously entertaining! He is very laid back when it comes to deadlines and will work with you if you need any help! Highly recommended!!

Quite disorganized but he try's, he knows his information it is just boring. You must study the book if you want to do good on exams. I suggest TAS 170 if you want a more interesting class to use as a Comp.

If your are a IPR major- TAKE THIS CLASS. I mean it. Yes, it sucks. It sucks so bad, you want to rip your hair out. But the resume, cover, and thank you letter portion makes up for it. One of the most beneficial classes I've had thus far. Teacher knows the class sucks too... but he tries to make the best of it. You will be happy you took it.

I really liked Buerkel, his lectures aren't always on-topic, but he assigns interesting projects and his tests reflect the lectures, so if you take notes and pay attention, you'll be fine.

Dr. Buerkel is pretty cool. His class is super laid back and he appreciates it if you just give your best effort. His lectures are kind of dry, but if you need a break once in a while, it is ok to skip. Just don't skip on day of speechesexams and give your best effort, oh, and laugh at some of his jokes--you are good to go.

Very thoughtful professor, doesn't make work overly hard. Grades toughly, but is generally willing to work with you.

Rick is a good, caring man. I was nervous to take COM357, which is required for me to graduate. But he did not reduce any points for my large vocal pauses because he understands that it can be very nerve racking for some people. He was lenient with due dates. Three speeches total. Extra credit opportunities.

Professor Buerkel really understands how to connect with his students. He is a very kind and understanding individual who does not give out a lot of work. His grading can be a little tough when it comes to speeches, but as long as you try your best you will do good enough. I really enjoyed his class and hope to have him again.

Great lectures. I personally never had any communication issues with this professor. He did admit his struggles with some of the technology, preferring his Mac.

I enjoyed his class- although it was a lot of notes from his slideshows. Although they were very straight to the point. He did tell jokes and kept the class interesting to pay attention too.

Dr Buerkel was great at keeping class interesting. He's a great lecturer. He was incredibly lenient if you missed a presentation and had to give it another day. He's very kind ans responsive to communication outside of the class time.

Mr. Buerkel was an excellent professor. I took his class as duel enrollment which was 8 weeks rather than 16. This did mean that there was more work, but I expected that. My only problem was he was terrible with responding to emails I would be sent a week or so in advance before a due date, causing me to have to submit regardless of an email back.
