Fun class... like a breath of fresh air.

Young guy. Knows his audience. Keeps class interesting.

rick is awesome. his class is off the hizzy. discussions on hot topics. he's always ready to help you out so you can do well in his class.

rick is a very awesome guy. very liberal, very interesting, makes a potentially boring class VERY fun.

Having Rick's class, and his friendship, my freshman year at BU was truly amazing. He is one of the two true mentors i have had in my life thus far.

Although he IS a tough grader he is a great teacher and helps a lot if you go in and talk to him my essay went from a C to a B+/A-.

This is the best professor you will have in all four years of college. His class is so interesting! It especially helps if you go in and talk to him. He is a hard grader, but you become a much better writer bc of it. Despite the fact I had his class freshman year, he and i are still friends!

HE ROCKS- Rick is one of the best teachers in this school- if you get him you are lucky- get ready to learn alot!

Rick is the greatest professor I have ever had. He is young, helpful, interesting, and fun. This is one class you will never dread going to.

Rick is an awesome guy, passionate about the issues we discuss, and possibly the most helpful professor in CGS. If you want an A, go to his office hours with a draft or general ideas for paper topics, and his guidance will provide you with all you need. The assignments seem like bs but they pertain to current issues and prove to be helpful in life.

Rick is an amazing professor and one of the nicest people that you will ever met in your life. He is there for his students 24/7. He will come in early and stay late everytime a student needs help. You can get an easy B or A in this class as long as you put forth the effort.

He tells us straight out that he's a hard grader, but don't feel intimidated at all. He's one of the nicest and most helpful professor out there. He will give you as much feedback as he can with every assignment. He knows what he is talking about during discussions. Very encouraging professor. Meet with him a lot and do his readings. Very funny guy. He tries hard to make boring lessons like grammar fun, and it almost works. He makes you think and forces you to argue. Pushes students a lot but is a real nice guy. The class is really exciting and you look forward to going to it. He cracks me up with his silly jokes, but he also forces me to look at the world in whole new way.

he's wonderful. in his class we got to discuss issues which i have never discussed in an academic atmosphere. Prof. Cole opened our minds to the realm of possibility, and will truly be missed.

Professor Cole was a great teacher.My writing has improved thanks to him.He made class exciting even at 9 on friday mornings and was even able to make grammar lessons interesting. He is one of the best teachers I have had at BU. He will be missed. He challenged us to think out loud and express our opions without holding back which is rare.

Amazing prof. Not only do you break out of the usual boring methods of how to write a paper, you learn to argue and articulate yourself well on almost every current issue, while learning about the issue itself as well. He's also hillarious, and has the whole class laughing at 9am. Extremely sad he's leaving, easily one of the best teachers

He is the most helpful professor I have and makes the class extremely interesting with diverse discussions about contemporary topics...Hes funny, helps a lot with essays and basically you will get a good grade if you do the basic work...ur writing skills will improve drastically...i was amaazed on how much mine improved. GREAT TEACHER!!!

WONDERFUL PROFESSOR!!!!! Everday when he walked into the classroom, his enthusiasm was just beyond believe. My writing skills have improved tremondously through out this year. We discussed different current issues through out the year, and he made every single of one these topics very interesting. He is very willing to help his students.

Professor Cole is an amazing professor and you should be very excited if you have him. His teaching style really makes you think about where you stand on many ethical and political issues today. My writing has inproved dramatically throughout the year. He is one of the nicest professors and always there to help when you need it.

Absolutely amazing. a very smart, funny and intelligent guy. Left-wing and very passionate but even if you don't agree with what he has to say... you will feel intellectually challenged. he's never boring and he always trying to get a debate going and keeps things interesting. LOVE HIM

If you give Cole 100% than he will become one of the most inspiring and helpful professors you could ever hope to have. He pushes you develop opinions on important matters and ethics that actually have an affect on us - like abortion, euthanasia, and the death penalty. He made me want to be a writer, and I still think about him with every paper.

Professor Cole was no doubt a great teacher. He is chill but can get hard at times. He will reason with you if you ask for a day off for class because of a test or if you think you are getting too much work. He is a hard grader but can greatly help during office hours. learn to speak up in class and you will be liked even more.

Amazing teacher. I can honestly say I looked forward to going to Professor Cole's class even if it was my 9am on Monday morning. He kept everything so interesting all the time. I learned so much from him and it is all information I know I will remember for the rest of my life! You are very lucky if you get him as a rhetoric teacher.

Professor Cole was, without a doubt, my favorite teacher last year. His teaching methods, although somewhat unorthodox, taught me more in one year than I thought possible. His classes acted as a beacon of light in my crazy schedule and no matter what state I was in (if you get my drift), he kept me interested. Thanks for a great year Professor.

This is the best professor I've ever had. The most interesting class the the most helpful professor in Boston University. He keeps the class entertaining until the last minute. I never opened a text book he only gave us two page article to read that were extremely interesting.

GREAT teacher. He makes you want to come to class. My class started earlier and ended later because students would show up early and would not want to leave. Every class you debate issues and have a blast. He even makes grammar fun!! You'll love him!

Cole is awesome, he makes grammar interesting, and loves his pop culture. He is tough on those who oppose him, but he just does it to try and get the best out of his students. He's a tough paper grader for the most part, definitley see him with rough drafts and write more than the minimum

Professor Cole is the best professor I've had at BU and I'm a senior now. It's true he is opinionated, but he encourages opposing views. He loves to challenge you by making you argue on sides that you might not necessarily agree with. He is so helpful and understanding. He makes rhetoric seem like the coolest subject on earth.

Go to individual meetings with him as often as you can & try to turn in full rough drafts as early as possible. He's as helpful as you let him be, so ask for help or just an opportunity to chat. I've never learned so much from a professor in my life! I had always considered myself a good writer, but after taking his class he made my high school writing look like absolute crap! I've been able to take what I've learned from him and use it in real life experiences. He's hillarious and I ALWAYS looked forward to going to class. ALWAYS.

Honestly I can say that thus far (I'm only a freshman), Professor Cole is the BEST teacher I have ever had in all my years of schooling, no exaggerations. He's so fun and can make anything interesting to talk about b/c he inspires debate among people who disagree with each other. I formed a great bond with him and wish I could have him forever!

He is like an angel. He was so helpful to me as an international student dealing with my ESL problems. Im so glad that he is my prof.

Great professor that encourages lots of discussion. He plays all the sides of an argument without trying (and inevitably failing) to appear totally indifferent. Also quite funny and charismatic in his own way. Makes for a fun and interesting class that was a pleasure to take.

I absolutely adore Prof Cole. Hands-down, my favorite professor here at BU. Compared to all of my other classes, this was an extremely refreshing class. Prof Cole cares so much about his students. He's one of those teachers that cares more about your success and education than your actual grade. He cares that you learn. His class inspires me.

I didn't really appreciate professor cole until I had a couple years to experience other professors. Easily one of my favorites. Loves to emphasize discussion and group participation. Totally fearless and will say anything. He is exactly what I hoped for in a college professor and if CGS had 20 of him it would be a better place for it.

Is so funny he has his class in stitches, is a true joy during class. He makes things interesting by prompting debate among students on interesting topics. There are a few papers which he grades harshly, but the feedback he gives is invaluable. He is very accessible in his office hours. I thoroughly enjoy his class!

Prof. Cole is so helpful with everybody's homework. If you can send him your draft paper 1 week before the due day, he will try his best to help you improve your paper. He encourages and does gives us chance to speak up in discussion, and there are lots of chance to get extra credit.

A very fun professor to be with, though he may be passive-aggressive at times. His weekly discussion posts are great because they're easy and help tremendously with their corresponding papers. You can talk about anything in this class.

It's in the name of the class, rhetoric. He loves to have controversial conversation. Very engaging class. Make sure to stay on his good side. I don't know if attendance affects your grades, but he is very tight on attendance and will ask you why you weren't there. he loves to cold call which is good and bad.

Professor Cole is literally the best and so chill. Easy grader on papers as long as you do what he says and homework is light. You can talk about anything during discussions. Make sure to participate a lot and don't skip classes. Really funny guy; would take him again in a heartbeat!

Cole is a great professor and makes his classes enjoyable as he has a great sense of humor! He really encourages you to participate and expects you to speak at least 2 or 3 times or he will cold call on you. You have ample time to complete essays and he is extremely helpful outside of class for any clarification or help. Take his class!

Professor Cole is one of the best professors in CGS and at BU. He really cares about his students and strives to help improve their writing. He is always available outside of class, answers all of your questions, is very straightforward with what he wants to see in his papers, and lets you know in advance when they are due. Prof Cole is amazing!!! Easily best teacher I've had so far. Super funny, encourages us to actually speak our opinions. Participation is easy because it just feels like we're all having a conversation. The essays are pretty easy because he lets us pursue our own ideas for the prompt and he spells out exactly what he wants. Take this class!!!!!

100/100 don't care what anyone else says, actually the best teacher to choose. He will be the best teacher you've ever had. His class was very interesting because he talks about topics that aren't boring like climate change, sexuality, and other recent issues. You can talk freely without any judgment. He's such a good guy and a comedian. SO FUN :)

Prof Cole was easily the best professor/teacher I've ever had. He's a great person, even aside from teaching. He's super funny and cares about his students. We also always learned about important and interesting things. I was never bored in his class, it was like a group conversation but not in a scary way. I actually learned so much from him.

Professor Cole is by far the funniest teacher I've had at BU. His class is really interesting so make sure you participate and meet with him before each paper is due. He gives out good feedback and it could change your paper grade drastically. Highly recommend!

While it may seem that he gets off topic often, he really does teach the art of persuasion though rhetoric and does help students become better writers. Also a great person and would 100% take him again.

His workload is very manageable and he'll be happy to help you if you reach out. Not taking his class would be a mistake, he's a professor to remember!

Values participation a lot and does his part as a professor to give his own feedback as well. He will help you along the way without being overbearing. Taking this class helped me express my thoughts and feel heard. Definitely recommend.

great guy!! class is thought provoking and enjoyable. prof cole is very kind in the way he gives feedback while also being constructive; sometimes acts bizarrely but that's a plus--adds to open, non-judgmental environment. DO the meager readings or else youre just wasting everyone's time. DONT waste your money buying the books!

Cole is the best professor you can have for rhetoric, hes funny and lenient and he is so understanding. He gives amazing feedback and keeps all the lectures and disscussion entertaining without having to do too much. Just read ahead and do your papers ahead of time and make sure to participate. He is amazing!

So funny and engaging. He really cares about you having a good idea, learning to communicate that idea and then arguing it the best way you can. He's so out of pocket sometimes, it makes for a really fun time; take his class if you can and make sure to participate!
