Very hard to study for tests- almost impossible to pass unless you know the subject matter verbatim. Teaches what some would call false doctorine. Kind of mean, too. Very sarcastic and makes fun of class members.
Brother Davis is a very good teacher and if you study and pay attention in class you can do well. If you are looking for an easy class, don't bother but if you want a challenge and more importantly, if you want to learn a lot, Brother Davis is great.
Davis is one of the best teachers I've had the opportunity associate with while attending BYUI. For those that are attending this university to learn, not simply to achieve a grade Davis is the professor.
Davis comes off a bit sarcastic and coarse at first, but once you lighten up you'll find that this guy has a LOT to teach- and you have a lot to learn. It's definitely not easy, I have a B and I worked really hard, but I learned a ton and it's worth it!
Out of all of my professors, Davis is by far the best. Not only does he explain things thoroughly, he takes time out of class time to answer questions and discuss topics. Yes, his tests are difficult, but if you pay attention, you will be rewarded.
Bro Davis is the man!!! If you want a good teacher take his class.
Rick Davis is THE most enjoyable teacher I've had. He knows the material and presents it clearly. Tests are comprehensive and tough at times, but he makes a tutor and past tests available for study. Cares enough to know each student's name.
Makes the subjects very interesting. I always wake up in his class.
Davis is an excellent teacher. He really knows his subject well and loves to teach. Very clear when presenting and his tests come from the provided study sheets. He makes it a point to know everyone and will help them anyway he can. Very recommended!!
If you want to learn, I mean actually learn, take this class. Not only does he know the information but everyday I come out of the class with a new outlook on life and a strong desire to learn. He really enjoys teaching and he cares about the students!!!
He is awesome! He brings the real world into the "bubble." Knows his stuff and can teach it in a way that it will stick with. Very animated when he teaches. Test are help you learn and remember more.
I LOVE BRO. DAVIS!! and i'm not just saying that to get an A. He's honest, funny, willing to help. He help me pick out a dig. camera, and whenever i go to his office, he puts everything down and focuses on me. I'd totally take from him again.
Whoa, all those last posts were submitted on the same day. Is Bro Davis perhaps trying to promote his own image? In any case he is a good teacher but I suspect all those last ratings are from the same person.
I have gotten to know him quite well on a more personal level and have found that there are few teachers that care more about students as individuals than does Rick Davis. He has a wealth of experience and insight into his material. Uncle Rick is the bomb
Extrodinary teacher. Only gives the most useful information. He's always on top of things. Nothing slips by him. Not even this website apparently ;).
He grades a bit hard. i learned a lot and he is interestin
He was one of the best teachers i had that semester. he ALWAYS made class interesting, not one dull moment. i learned tons and i plan on taking more classes from him.
I would recommend this class to anyone. you can go once a month and not miss a step.
Bro. Davis is SO AWESOME! I totally recommend him for any class.
good prof., grades a bit hard, makes it interesting, knows a good photo when he sees one haha, animated, highly recommended
Freaking awesome. Definitely left a positive impact. Wish I could retake the class.
Amazing teacher. I took him for both classes because he taught so well
He was so much fun! Never a boring moment in his class. He made learning enjoyable and made me even want to go a bit farther than I needed to.
AWESOME Professor! He knows so much information! After taking his class, I am definitely taking Humanities 202 with him. Very funny and incorporates church doctrine into his class. I would recommend him to anyone!
incredible teacher! has fun in class and teaches in a way that you wont forget what you're learning. very reasonable with tests/grades. extremely smart guy! TAKE ANYTHING YOU CAN FROM HIM!
I never thought learning about humanities was going to be fun...until I met Bro. Davis! He is so enthusiastic about this stuff. You leave his class with sore abs...laughing and learning is a must and it's all interesting!
Took the online classes and did awful in them. I was confused on most things the entire semester. I'm taking him again in the summer so that I can get the F's off my record - but that's the only reason.
one of the best teachers ever
I took him for HUM 201 online class. His online class is not recommended. I believe what everyone says that he is a good teacher in class but don't take it online it is very hard.
I took humanities 101 online from him and I did not think that it was that bad. I thought that the course was well organized and I always knew what my grade was cuz it was posted on blackboard. My only complaint is that the tests were hard. But he gives u study guides and u can print out the exams to study for the next one.
Terrible for helping you. He has no sympathy whatsoever. He is not avaiable to recieve help from. I took his online class. Apparently the other classes are good. Terrible person to work with otherwise. I disliked that I would come to him for help and he'd basically kick me out of his office. Good teacher. The worst helper on campus by far
Really helped me understand the Book of Mormon!
I took this class online. It was terribly hard. I hear he's a good teacher in person, but online it's terrible. The tests are extremely difficult and Brother Davis doesn't have sympathy. I studied very hard. Read the book, listened to the songs, used the study guide and the best I could get on his tests was a C+. You are only graded on the quizzes
He gives you all the materials he will test you on, just memorize it! Very interesting guy.
DO NOT SLEEP IN HIS CLASS. DO NOT BE LATE. Really funny though
He has great stories and is very interesting. On Fridays he shows funny video clips.
I took his online Humanities 202 class. I busted my butt to get an A. It was possible, but took a lot of time. My advice...Study his review sheets and it could be an easy A.
Way good interesting teacher
This is the best teacher I have ever had. He teaches you to think. No troglodytes allowed.
This guy is the bomb! Don't take the class if you want a brain-dead experience though- you will think alot and learn more then you thought you could. Davis likes to make sure you know what you are talking about and isn't affraid to put you on the spot. Really is the best teacher i have ever had
He is a great teacher overall. He is a coroner so he has interesting stories-he loves to tell stories. His tests are extremely difficult though they reflect the current topics in class but he throws in a few from prior tests. highly recommend!!
Davis is a great comedian, but a poor teacher. If you want a scholastic approach to history and humanities he should not be your first selection.
Brother Davis is a great teacher and really makes history come alive. He is hilarious and keeps class interesting for sure. I really learned a lot in his class.
I talked to him about every test and quiz. I would show him were the real answers were in the book. but still wouldn't adjust the grade. funny teacher though, pretty fun in class. He can be moody though. we walked out on our class because we didn't read something we didn't know we were supposed to read. he's really unorganized
I loved Brother Davis! I looked forward to class every single day. He keeps things interesting and he gets people involved in class discussions. He is way talented and funny. I would recommend him to anyone! His tests are kind of difficult, but if you study the study guide he gives you before each test you'll do fine.
I loved Brother Davis! I looked forward to class every single day. He keeps things interesting and he gets people involved in class discussions. He is way talented and funny. He didn't teach, he wouldn't give notes, and class was super boring. We would get study guides for the test, but none of the information on the study guides would be on the test. Didn't like him at all. The only good thing from this class was that he canclled class like every other week. Waste of my Money.
Awesome guy. Had a lot of stories to tell. Very fun and very intelligent. Clear information. Easy quizes online every once in awhile. Tests were bearable. Not that hard. Gave out study guides with nearly all the info you needed for the test. Honestly, The best professor on campus.
he teaches very well and is really entertaining
Easy grader if you study; he's very entertaining in class and is more anecdotal and practical than 'scholarly' in his approach. He knows his stuff though. Best of all, he geniuenly cares about his students. I know because I got to know him personally and saw his love for his students and the material. I'm biased though, as he was my fav teacher.
Very entertaining in class. Makes you appreciate theart u study and the music by playing alot of on the piano and showing you how impossible it can be. Very knowledable, down to earth.
All I have to say about him is that he lies. He says that you don't have to come to class and that you can get an A and never attend. Well, then he throws a some pop quizzes then there. So if you go to class you will get an A but don't listen to him when he says you do not have to come to class.
Brother davis is an awesome teacher i highly recommend him he is a very nice guy but not a push over. He is very knowledgeable. Quiz almost everyday but if you read they are easy. go to class!!!
Brother Davis is a really good teacher. He knows a lot of stuff about the book of mormon. The only homework you have is to read the BOM and you take quizzes almost everyday in class. You should take him
I loved Brother Davis! He is a great teacher! Loved the class! You will love him. Just pay attention in class and you'll do fine on the tests. PARTICIPATE! It helps you learn better!
Brother Davis is without a doubt the best teacher I've ever had in my life. He's an awesome story teller and he makes connections with the church and history that I've always wondered about. I would highly recommend him to anyone.
Great teacher- took the online course, always helpful, test were very applicable to information learned, no real surprise questions. really enjoyed it.
Bro Davis is seriously the best teacher. The homework load is not bad, just make sure you read. He gives quizzes at the beginning of class in the beginning of the semester, but not so much toward the end. You will never leave that class without having laughed. The tests are not difficult if you study. shows some pretty funny youtubes every so often
he came on the study abour in europe and he is the MAN! brother davis is so interesting. cool stories and likes to get you involved.
Absolutely hated this class. DO NOT take this class if you are bad at testing. He gives multiple choice A-H on like 50 percent of the test. Worst class ever. Old and boring
Best HUM class taken. Makes you appreciate the arts because his knowledge, he is really good at illustrating the skill of sculptors and composers. Very logical guy, makes the occasional joke.
AWESOME teacher. Made humanities really interesting. Talked about history as well so you would know the background of what he was talking about. REALLY good teacher! TAKE HIM!
This class was awesome! Brother Davis is one of the best teachers I've had on campus! The pop quizzes he gives suck really bad, but he makes up for it with his awesome enthuisiasm in class! Great class and a ton of fun!
He is a great teacher and a great guy. I loved going to his classes, he had a high energy level and was full of knowledge. His expectations from his students are very reasonable. I can with good conscious recommend him to anyone. I wish I could take more classes from him.
Unbelievable, has to be one of the worst classes I have ever taken. Totally destroyed my GPA and scholarship, do not take this class online, he hasn't updated it since like 2005. hear he is great in class and I am sure he is but unclear online did have sympathy about the final which was great.
great teacher and has an amazing way of teaching
I took Book of Mormon from Brother Davis and did horrible. your expected to read a lot before class each day. the quizzes he gives everyday are really confusing unless you know the book of mormon inside and out. Brother Davis is really an amazing teacher he was one of my favorites. He is hillarious!!
Davis is one of the best professors i've ever had. He knows a ton about a variety of subjects. his lectures are interesting and he's a really fair teacher.
He knows alot about pretty much everything. He is a really good and entertaining teacher I learned a lot. He is the best professor I have ever had. Great guy but the tests are all comprehensive and a little hard. I highly recommend everyone to take him. Other professors should take lessons from him on how to teach, and how a class should be.
I LOVE BRO. DAVIS!!! Seriously if you ever have a chance to take a class from him DO IT. He's hilarious and makes learning enjoyable and not tedious. I looked forward to class every day. I think you'll enjoy it even if history/humanities isn't your thing.Reading and Quiz before every class but it helps A LOT. Not bad at all. :) He's awesome!
I like how he teaches, he makes case very entertaining and fun, he's test are intense an u really need to be paying attention otherwise u r gonna be lost. I learned a lot he teaches with stories and he's quizzes r pretty easy open book and no time limit, I'm taking him next semester too
Brother Davis knows his stuff!! Very smart guy! He has been teaching for a long time, knows what to expect from students. Take notes during class, do the readings, study, ask questions. He wants you to do well!
HE IS FREAKING AWESOME!!! No papers, no projects, and no group work!! He's funny and keeps ya interested in everything he's talking bout. he has quizzes at the beginning of class and a open scripture midterm/final with a "cheat sheet". I planned my entire schedule this semester around having his class again. its so worth it
AMAZING. I loved Bro Davis! He's the funniest teacher Ive ever had and he teaches BoM very well. I learned more about the BoM in his class than all of the church classes I've ever had. It's kind of hard at first, but once you get used to it, it's way easy. Do the reading assignments and pay attention! He also allows cheat sheets on tests!
By far, one of my favorite professors! He's funny and tells it like it is; my focus was always sharp. I recommend him for any religion class!
Excellent teacher. he knows exactly what he is doing. keeps your attention and never wastes your time. If you want an A, you have to do the work, but you learn so much, and its interesting.
He loves what he does and expects you to do the work so you can have real ideas and opinions for class discussions. Love love love his class.
I had him for humanities 201 and 202 and I had a great time with his class. I learned a lot about humanities and he truly has a passion for the subject. Most of the test questions are from the quizzes so study up on those. He is really a nice guy and he treats every student well. It is possible to do well in this class. do the work.
He is way into himself and kind of feminin.
He's sharp and he creates an environment conducive to the Spirit. He lets you make comments at any point. He's very captivating and you will find yourself becoming his friend. Don't miss the quizzes and follow all of his instructions for the assignments. Google everything. He's a hoot. Guaranteed to make you laugh.
Brother Davis is a great teacher, I learned SOOOOOO much about the BOM. He does quizes every class that can be really hard, but you learn so much from him! He really knows his stuff! If you don't show up to class you will get a 0% on the quiz, so make sure you are there on time!
Brother Rick Davis is an engaging teacher relating his detailed knowledge of biblical and church history, life stories and sense of humor to terms we can understand the book of moromon. Yet he did insult the Jews and their traditions when discussing the history of the book of mormon which offended me. The quizzes are hard if you dont read much.
bro davis is the coolest cat on the block. i LOVE LOVE LOVE his class. i usually hate going to class but i really enjoy his. it's a hoot!!
He goes off on long tangents that are very distracting.
He was an awesome teacher. Took his Book of Mormon class. All you pretty much had to do was read 10 pages every day and take a quiz on them the next class. Made it so easy to understand! Awesome guy too, very funny.
In Book of Mormon he quizzes you every day over a 20 page variance. He never quizzes on doctrine- just historical, who is who, who did what. Not easy if you get behind. I did, and I never knew what to read for the quiz. People who don't do just fine and it can be enjoyable. Also, for final and midterm, he allows a cheat sheet! He is funny and nice
He's definitely a good teacher and made class super easy. He wasn't my favorite option for a religion class (we mostly covered historical instead of doctrinal principles), but still very entertaining. Just stay on top of your reading/cheat sheet and you're set!!
Awesome teacher! I love this guy! One of the best teachers I have ecer had. Not a real tough class. Funny guy. Very smart. You learn something new every day. I looked forward to this class everyday. I fully recommend him to everyone.
I loved his class! He is so funny and entertaining. I learned so much in his class. We get off topic on occasion but he is good at bringing it back. You do have to do some reading but it's fun to read. I'd definitely recommend his class.
You learn a lot from this class, and it is really interesting. Just make sure that you really listen during class. The test are pretty difficult though
Brother Davis is my favorite teacher so far at BYU-I. He's a great teacher, has a lot of knowledge and experience, treats everyone respectfully, and is absolutely hilarious. He's not only been a great teacher, but a great role model in my life. I took him for HUM 201 last semester and again this semester for HUM 202. He is simply an amazing person.
best teacher in the world. super helpfull and you learn so much. it's not hard to get a good grade either if you do the reading. loved him and he's welcome to my wedding.
This teacher was so funny and entertaining but he was unclear at times at what he wanted, for the photo assignments especially. He would leave things wide open, then when things are submitted he would say "I didn't want that". His tests are pretty tough but if you study you will be okay. Pay attention in class, take good notes and you will be fine.
Great Teacher. Really can make you love the Book of Mormon. Brother Davis tells you how it is, treats you like an adult which is nice compared to other teachers at BYUI. Really awesome teacher.
Brother Davis is a funny guy but his comments can be super inappropriate. He is very unclear on what he expects and it was impossible to get an A in his class. He is insensitive and won't work with you. He is laid back about some things, but your grade will suffer if you don't guess right on his expectations. Wouldn't recommend him. He's rude.
Brother Davis is the best teacher you could have for Humanities. I will be honest, his course is a challenge. His class is super entertaining and I loved going to class. He knows everything there is to know. Essays, quizzes, and assignments are easy. Exams are easy IF you listen and take notes. Expect to get at least a 90% on exams if you study.
Brother Davis is a hilarious and entertaining professor! He definitely knows what he's talking about too. My only complaint is that he sometimes tells so many fun stories that he doesn't go over everything, and then still puts the question on the test. You must use the review sheets!!! Very picky about photography. He does teach great life lessons!
He is freaking hilarious! I loved the class. He is so cool, he's done so much! I mean hes like 70 or something. If you want an A you gotta do good on the tests, which I feel like were never easy. Do all the quizzes the points really add up. And really try on the photo assignments, awesome class, not as easy as I'd prefer.
Bro. Davis is an awesome teacher. He is very funny. I liked him because he actually expects you to exert effort in your studies. He knows your capable he just wants YOU to realize it. It's not an easy A but you learn a lot! Take him, have fun and learn a lot!
Brother Davis is the best. He is the smartest man I know. I looked forward to every class because he teaches so well. You learn so much with him and there is no stress to get a good grade. As long as you do the reading you'll do great. Not only is he brilliant but he is hilarious and engaging. He will make the scripture come alive for you.
I absolutely loved Bro. Davis's class. Not only did he make the material interesting, he kept everyone amused. The best seven words I ever heard out of his mouth: "Now I gotta tell you a story..."
Bro. Davis was my favorite professor. He made history very interesting because he's lived in the areas he's teaching about! He tells a lot of stories and seriously is in love with himself but over all, he was the best teacher I've had. Take him for every class you can. The work is mildly demanding but easy. Minimal studying to get a B.
Best teach ever! There is never a dull moment in Brother Davis' class, he is always explaining something by using the piano, drawings, pictures, and the students as examples. He made learning fun and relatable. If you thought history and classical music was boring, think again He will spice it up. He prepares you for the tests w/study guides.
Great Teacher, he makes the study of history and art apply to my everyday life. I was originally taking this class to fill a few credits, now I look forward to it every time.
NEVER TAKE DAVIS FOR BOM! He jokes around. You read 20 pages per class and he quizzes you over the reading. The quiz questions are impossible like: How many people did Alma baptize at the waters of Mormon? I never was late to class, aced the final, got a 94 on the midterm and even got a tutor for BOM, and still got an A- (he wouuldn't round btw)
He is a great teacher. He challenges you, and lets you decide how much you want to learn. He doesn't mess around, and definitely speaks his mind. He is a tough teacher, only because he doesn't tell you exactly what is going to be learned. Not everything comes from the online text, so listen and take notes. Fun guy- loads of stories!
Bro Davis is a legit individual. He is very laid back and has a ton of stories. I was not interested in taking this class and he made it totally awesome. He explains things very clearly and expects you to do the work. Do the work, study and you will do great
It was probably my hardest foundations class but so worth it. I felt that I actually learned a lot and it was very rewarding. He teaches very well and is very passionate. He is very talented and will stretch you to study and read the material. It will be hard to just skate by but what he asks is not impossible at all. I would recommend him to all!
Brother Davis is by far my favorite teacher I have had. He teaches straight from the scriptures and I feel like I know them a lot better because of him. He also takes everyones questions and tries his best to answer him. My testimony has grown because of his class. I would take him over and over again. (I also had him for HUM. I loved that too.)
This professor is very misleading. The exams were unpredictable. ATTENTION: OUR CLASS AVERAGE ON THE FIRST EXAM WAS 73.3%. The AVERAGE for the second exam was 69.1%. W I thought I was prepared for the exams but there was hardly anything on the exam that was on the study guide. If you are great at memorizing useless facts then take this class
Good guy. He's really old, funny, and a little crazy. Has good insights into the BOM. He's a humanities professor, so he does not have a religious education background, this can be good and bad. Just show up everyday there is a quiz you'll do good.
LOVED THIS PROFESSOR!!! By far the most amazing man I've ever met. He has at least 3 jobs outside teaching on campus. He is the best story teller in the world and will make you love History even if you hated it before. Take this class from him if you have the option!
Brother Davis is a funny guy. He was a great teacher, I found his class enjoyable. His assignments were pretty easy. HOWEVER: His tests were ridiculous. I studied and studied but could never get a good grade on his tests. This was the result of many students in my class. when I approached Bro. Davis about this he told me to try harder.
I love this man! His class is so much fun! Even if you are not interested in Humanities, TAKE THE CLASS! You will learn so much from him!
Awful at being clear on when assignments are due. He is very full of himself, and can get off topic really easy. Would recommend trying to find a different teacher before choosing him!
I really liked Davis. I took him for my first religion class, and even though he made us take quiz every class period he was really good at explaining the BOM. I am taking him again next semester because he really is a great professor. I wouldn't recommend him for any other subject, though.
Great guy, easily distracted and doesn't always cover everything in class that you will need to know on the test. Studying is necessary and tests are difficult. Very interesting if you are at all interested in Humanities.
I really liked Brother Davis' class. I don't agree with others saying that his tests are too hard. He teaches you everything that you need to know and he gives you a review sheet and you have whole classes dedicated to review. I usually got a B on them. He's a really entertaining teacher and I learned a lot from his class.
Brother Davis is the best professor I have ever had at BYU-I. I absolutely loved his humanities class. If you are taking this class, you absolutely MUST take the class with him. His tests are not hard. If you pay attention in class and read the material, you should do very well in his class. I want to take more classes from him, just for fun!
I absolutely LOVED this class, I already love history but Davis made it even more fun and interesting. His stories are great, and his tests were very simple. Taking him again this semester simply because I love being there!
Brother Davis has been my absolute favorite teacher while attending BYU-I. His lessons are invigorating and totally enjoyable. I always look forward to his class. Every once in a while he gets off track, but that's usually because he has an awesome personal life story that everyone wants him to share. Highly recommended!
A wonderful teacher, when I think of teachers who make a difference in students' lives', Brother Davis is at the top of the list. He is an understanding person, and loves his job. I have had his 9am class, and it is the perfect way to start my day. You won't be disappointed!!
He is not clear on when to hand in assignments. You are not going to get a good grade by solely listening to him in class. He's a great story teller and full of himself which is funny most of the time but you have to read the book in order to get a B or higher. I attended class every day and still didn't do well on the tests. They are difficult.
Brother Davis is the bomb! He is hilarious, very knowledgeable, and if you read the syllabus you can't go wrong. He posts class notes on i-learn, so print/copy them before class and your golden! He does't assign any papers or projects ever. Quizzes are online, and open note/book. Tests are online in the TC and are basically the quiz questions!
He is a nice guy. He can be wild and crazy when he goes off on tangents. He can also be very opinionated. If you read the book and look on I learn for assignments you will pass. He doesnt just give you things. He expects you to actually do something for yourself.
Bro. Davis is a good teacher, but his quirks undo him. He won't change for anyone. He's doesn't put due dates on i-Learn, so watch. I really enjoyed the content of the class. He makes you buy his textbook (yes, he wrote it) for the class, which is hard to get used. Very low quality textbook. Probably the best you can get for this class.
BRO DAVIS IS THE MOST AMAZING PERSON. You will learn SO much, and although it's not an easy A, you won't mind reading or learning from him. I could honestly have listened to him for hours and not be bored. He's older, but has more energy than most students. He's the smartest and person I've met and I IMPLORE you to take this class.
Brother Davis is incredible - take him! I fell in love with humanities because of this guy... He knows so much and his lectures go by too fast because you just want him to keep telling you incredible stories. Take notes, read the textbook chapter (which he wrote), and you are golden. Humanities is NOT boring with Davis.
Brother Davis is great & he is so smart & he knows what he is talking about & he tells great stories & his teaching methods are great.. But.. he gives lots of pop quizzes, he never posts due dates in I-learn, his tests can be tough if you don't memorize the stuff, and he's strict on tardiness. I didn't care for his class, but he's a great guy.
There was a quiz everyday in class on the reading the night before. The quizzes were super hard, you have to really know the doctrine. I ended up with a C in this class. I know, a C! However, I learned more about the gospel than I did in 4 years of seminary. He is a great teacher who knows the gospel well. I would take again.
Bro Davis is very entertaining but if you're looking for an A, stay far away. He is NOT clear on when things are due (does not use I-learn well). His tests are incredibly difficult (cheered when I got a C). There are photo projects. Heads up: He's an old school photographer. He does not like modern photography styles so stay away, hipsters.
I'd taken Brother Davis for two semesters and absolutely adored him. He knows so much about the gospel and is strict, but sincere. He's very empathetic and very willing to help students when they need it. Expect him to be strict; he's a military man, but he's so great.
He's a wonderful teacher. His tests are freaking hard though, if you don't study. LEARN THE ART NAMES.... seriously. But he's funny and adorable and super truthful about things. LOVE HIM
Brother Davis at the beginning comes off as a stiff but is a softy on the inside. Hes super funny and you can tell he loves his job. He wrote the textbook for the class and it is an easy read. He follows the syllabus perfectly and is very organized. LOVED him as my professor. Tests arent hard, and the material isn't hard. Work load is pretty light.
He is a great teacher and very inspirational. As for grades he will tell you straight up that you earn what you earn. He is very passionate about what he teaches and he says the tests are easy, only because he has taught the material for years so know all the material very well.
I took Book of Mormon 122 from Bro. Davis, and I only missed one day but because of that I was fighting a C the whole semester. You need to go to class because he takes both attendance and gives you a majority of your grade from the quiz at the beginning of class.
If you want an easy class that will still help you learn, this is the way to go. Brother Davis makes it easy and wants to help you succeed. Also, it doesn't hurt that he tells stories every now and then.
I love brother Davis. His class was my favorite to attend. He makes the learning so interesting and fun. He takes a bit getting used to at first, he comes off a little harsh. But give him a chance because you will absolutely love him. Don't show up late to class, he hates that. Expect pop quizzes. I changed my major to humanities because of him.
I ended up dropping this class. He spent the first 25 minutes talking about his health condition and golf. He was pretty good when he got into the material.
Brother Davis is awesome! He really loves what he does. He covers the material all in class, which is amazing. You are required to read outside of class, but he does a great job of making sure you understand. He gives surprise quizzes which are no fun, but it's worth taking the class.
Brother Davis is amazing!!! He loves his job and knows what he is talking about! He is hilarious!!! Lots of reading outside of class, but it is worth it! He will make your day everyday!
Brother Davis is a nice guy and he cares about his students but he also teaches things that are strictly his opinion. You cannot use your phone in his class and if you fall asleep, he will call you out in front of everyone. He spends the entire class talking and telling stories but he expects you to know a lot of information for the quiz and test.
Good guy. if your here because you have to take the class and want an A don't take this class. Hardly have to go to class be talks about randomness not pertaining to the lesson at all. His tests are hard and will give you nothing to study with. Like i said good man, but don't recommend him! btw the first test he says is easy, its not!
Brother Davis is an incredible man. I took him for the first half of the BOM and waited 2 years so I 'd be able to take him for the 2nd half. I thoroughly enjoy going to his class and am bummed when it's over. He truly teaches a great perspective of the BOM and is very personable with it. I love listening to his stories and love him to death.
The class will be fun, but the grading is not clear. He talks in a lot of different directions and gets off topic, but you will laugh a lot and have fun. I learned a lot, but the teaching wasn't very focused. If you want an easy A, don't take his class. If you want a fun class where you are guaranteed at least a B, then you are good to go.
He's a nice guy but tough as a teacher. He only briefly goes over in class the things that will be on the test. His study guide is hard to follow and doesn't cover everything on the test. He also gets off topic almost every class and has very strong opinions he talks about all the time. Homework is very unclear. Doesn't really help students
Brother Davis is an awesome teacher. He basically just tells stories all class and explains things in the most relatable way possible. He doesn't put up with any kind of nonsense though, he's a pretty cut and dry kind of man. But there's little homework and the assignments aren't too hard anyways. The tests are pretty easy too. Highly recommended.
I was not looking forward to taking this class. But it turned out to be my favorite for the semester! Brother Davis was fun and very real and to the point. We had to write a small paper every week on one of the tangents in class. He just made learning fun.
He is NOT clear about assignments. He teaches his opinion as fact. He expects you to know everything he knows instantly and quizzes you on it. He will kill any interest you have toward photography with his out-dated 1970's style. Most short-minded, self-centered person I've met. Know one knows what he wants. In a way he's like Donald Trump.
Doesn't care for you. Only cares about himself and how good he is at photography. Talks more about himself than the actual subject of the class. Complete waste of time
Only homework was to read the Book of Mormon. Gave a short quiz at the beginning of class, and you couldn't make it up if you missed. As long as you read, you'll do fine. He's very knowledgeable about the Book of Mormon and temples. It's great to pick his brain. Although he does have a tendency to go off topic, so you'll have to keep him in line.
Brother Davis is the best teacher I have had on this campus. You are given readings to read before class and then in class he personalizes the material and gives his knowledge. He is a highly educated man (just ask him about his life) He is wise for his age and experience and has the best stories. If you love to learn, take his class.
Brother Davis is a hard professor. I'm a 4.0 student and I put so much time trying to get an A in this class that I ended up suffering in my other classes. The textbook is written by him and you must MEMORIZE ALL OF IT to do well on the tests. He is not very merciful. Lots of lectures. Funny and enjoyable though. Might do OK if you like humanities.
Hardest religion course I've ever taken. Honestly, I dreaded his class because he made me so anxious. You shouldn't feel that way for a religion course. He asks the most outlandish questions on the quizzes and the midterm and final were substantial and not easy either. I generally like most teachers and get in a groove, but never did with him.
Brother Davis is the best teacher I have ever had. He is so energetic and really knows his stuff. Class is super entertaining and you will learn a ton! Just make sure to take notes and do the quizzes. He can be a tough teacher but if you pay attention you will do just fine. He doesn't make class mandatory but honestly, you won't want to miss is.
He really is a passionate teacher, many don't like him because his lectures are usually off topic, but his lectures are more real application than going over the notes. You must take your notes, he has easy chapter quizzes. His tests on the other hand are quite hard, you must study! If you study you'll pass though!
Wonderful teacher. He really knows his stuff. He likes to joke around quite a bit and will tell stories. His teaching is really clear and to the point and he always knows how to make class interesting. Sometimes he has pop quizzes but they are easy if you pay attention in class and do the reading.
He's amazing, talented and hilarious. He lectures most of class, but it's always fun and always entertaining and interesting. He's highly opinionated and arguing with him is pointless; you will lose. He's strict about punctuality and no phones are allowed. If you DO go to class, you better pay attention and stay quiet or he'll kick you out.
All I can say is that Brother Davis is the kind of professor from whom I would take any class on any topic. This man knows his stuff! He genuinely loves teaching and that comes out in his entertaining and enlightening lectures. He prepares students with knowledge that will matter even after you get your degree. He can be tough, but it is beneficial
He's a great teacher don't get me wrong, but he goes off topic way too much and nothing much gets done. His class is structured by a quiz everyday on chapters of about 6-10 questions that I'm sure he comes up with at the top of his head. If you don't do good on these, then you might not pass with a good grade since that's the bulk of the grade.
I thoroughly enjoyed this class! At the beginning he scares you into thinking he's super strict but after a few weeks he chills out. He never took attendance but what you learn in class is very useful for exams. I studied exactly what was on the study guides and easily passed. Didn't have to take the final as I had an A going into it. So fun!
Very opinionated, he also loves to make everything political, and very conservative
Hardest religion course on the face of the earth. If you don't have the Book of Mormon memorized you will fail the quizzes and that is all he grades you on. I have never read the Book of Mormon so much in my life, while I was taking the course and it didn't even reflect through my grade. Very discouraging.
This class was my favorite class of the entire semester. He is a sharp, spunky, older professor with a lot of experience. Actually read the textbook and pay attention in lectures. That will help you on tests and quizzes. This is an amazing class, so don't skip it. If you can, sit in front, and DO NOT be late or use your phone. Take this class!
Brother Davis graded very harshly and was not very merciful. His tests are extremely difficult, and I test well. You basically have to memorize every class lecture and his whole textbook to get an A on them. I liked the class overall and learned a lot but I would take it from someone else.
Accidentally ended up in this class. Best mistake I've ever made. Lectures are the main basis so if you have attention problems you might have trouble but he keeps things interesting and open to questions if you miss something. Learn to take good notes. He doesn't like to assign papers so it's mainly test-based on grading. You'll be fine if you try
Bro Davis struggles with staying on topic. has no issues informing us about every detail of his life though. he makes every class political which i dont appreciate in a religion teacher. grade is entirely composed of quizzes on reading. if you know the bom well youll do well. vague/weird questions. hes not clear about expectations. insensitive.
Brother Davis is a great guy, he has interesting stories and starts good discussions, but it has little to do with the class itself. As many other people have said, you should expect to memorize the book and everything from his lectures in class to get an A on his tests. This was definitely my hardest class this semester. Tons of memorization.
Brother Davis is such an amazing professor. He gives entertaining lectures that are very helpful. You do need to read the textbook for quizzes and tests. And even though he doesn't take attendance you should go to class or you will miss important information. If you work hard he will reward you!
I put attendance isn't necessary, but he does a 10 question quiz at the start of each lesson reviewing the reading you've done. Read well as sometimes he'll pick some obscure detail to question you. He really wants you to learn BOM. He tells amazing stories and explains things so well, we had a day where we asked him questions about the gospel.
Great speaker and loved the class but he made me feel like I was stupid when asking him questions over email. Tough grader
Great speaker and teacher. The lectures are amazing and informational but he goes off topic a lot. He grades harshly and doesn't explain things well. If you don't memorize the txt book you will not do well on the quizzes or tests. He requires a ton of effort. Read instructions carefully. Great lectures but don't take class from him.
Lectures are captivating + funny so you can apply to notes you take in class. Posts study guides + notes + will send lect. pres. if you ask. If you have questions he is always happy to sit down and talk with you about the class/ life if you're in need. Very smart. Study your stuff. Strict but fair. Particip. is helpful. Easily distracted but so fun
Great teacher . You do have to work but if you apply yourself you will love this class. Overall there is not much homework just quizes throughout the semster.
Brother Davis is my favorite professor ever! He is a well-rounded guy with amazing stories. He knows what he is teaching and has experienced much of it firsthand. He is so funny, but doesn't care about political correctness so I can see people being offended by some of the things he says. But I love this class and he is so inspirational.
Brother Davis is an amazing teacher! You do need to do the reading , attend class, and think outside the box in order to do well on the tests. I learned SO much in this class, I would take a class from Brother Davis again in a heart beat
He is very passionate about what he teaches and it can be contagious. I loved the lectures. As a consequence of his enthusiasm he expects quite a bit from his students. Personally, I struggled with his tests. He covers a lot in class and makes sure to include it on the tests. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had been taking fewer classes.
Davis is the only professor I openly recommend. He has real world experience and does not hesitate to share this with students. His tests can be difficult, but with notes and studying, they're not that bad. Don't come to class late, because he often won't let you in. He is a great teacher and makes the material come to life.
His class is completely lectures, but they are SO interesting. I had no interest in Humanities, and I am now considering changing my major to Humanities. He really cares about this subject as well as his stories. He knows every students name and makes you feel cared about. Best teacher I've ever had.
I have never met someone as passionate about humanities. He truly loves the subject and cares about the students. You need to work hard, but the course was not unreasonably difficult. Fantastic lectures. His passion is contagious! Best teacher I have EVER had.
Davis told a student to drop out of college because he had a learning disability. He is self absorbed and a show off. I am a biochemistry major and humanities is the hardest class i have taken. Makes you buy the book because he wrote it (he makes money) and then you don't use it. His lectures are facts "in his own words" which makes tests hard.
He gives 10 question quizzes at the start of class and that is all that your grade is. It is very subjective to what he thinks the right answer is. If you are absent you fail. No makeups. I didn't prefer several of his own interpretations to the scriptures.
I enjoyed Bro. Davis immensely. He has great lectures but can repeat himself sometimes. Old school approach to learning; phones away or you will get booted. Lateness to class is not tolerated. I learned a lot from him. He is very funny and knows all sorts of random facts. I appreciate humanities because of him.
Brother Davis should retire. He wrecked my GPA over a dumb class. He quizzes you over information which isnt pertinent.
Bro. Davis is easily my favorite professor I've ever had. For his BOM class, I looked forward to going because he made it entertaining to learn about the stories. It changed my perspective on the book of mormon strictly on a scholarly level.
Brother Davis is the best Professor I have ever had. He is a real hoot! You will never be bored. He makes you work for your grades, but if you do your best in his class, you will be greatly rewarded! Don't miss out on taking his class!!
I love Brother Davis. I took HUM110 from him my first semester and was hooked, I knew this was the major I wanted to be in. I still go visit him in his office simply because I enjoy talking with him and hearing his ideas on things. One of my favorite teachers! Highly recommend him!
This class pretty much filled me with useless information. Bro Davis is very passionate about it so it is interesting to listen to him. His tests are very difficult. He does not give great feedback at all. I never had him say to me personally anything nice about my work. I did not feel uplifted with him as my teacher.
Show up to class and do the work that is required and you'll be fine. Pay attention and take notes. It's not that difficult. He has some of the most entertaining classes I've ever been in. He really knows his stuff. He's awesome.
Covers lots of interesting subjects. I enjoyed the class, and feel like I learned a lot about a smattering of subjects.
Bro. Davis was a great teacher. There was quite a bit of work but nothing too difficult. Be on top of everything and you'll enjoy this class. He is passionate about the subject and is such a character in class.
He knows his stuff really well. If you are so passionate about Humanity like him, go ahead and take it. Not easy A. the class is actually pretty hard...
He knows his stuff very well and is an inspiring teacher. But if you want an A, dont take him. His exams are incredibly hard. One of them you have to memorize two whole soliliquies from Macbeth worth 6 points each and write them out word for word.
I LOVED Brother Davis! He is a funny and interesting guy so I always enjoyed going to class! There was never a boring class with him as the professor. I wish he would teach every class required for my major. HIGHLY recommend!!!!
Brother Davis is awesome! He tells amazing stories, and really cares about the topics given in the class. He answers questions clearly as well.
He knows a lot, but he seems to alter stories a little bit to fit his jokes. He's also a little bit all over the place. Entertaining, but it can get to be a bit much sometimes.
Brother Davis is an amazing teacher and a really good professor. Some cons is that he is very stubborn and only believes that his knowledge is the correct knowledge. His class had unreasonable high expectations. All of his grade was made up of memorization quizzes. The tests also included memorization and were 30% m/c and 70% written/spelling count
Best professor I've had yet. He's funny but very opinionated. Don't be late he'll have you leave. Other than that, just show up and you'll pretty much pass. Lite on the homework. He saw me studying in the hall for a quiz in his class and ran through the terms with me. Never felt like a professor cared about me like that.
Brother Davis is a great professor! He may seem really strict and touch, but he just wants students to succeed. If you show up late, do not expect to enter the class. He is funny, but also teaches all that he needs to. The class is what you make it.
The best teacher I have ever had in my life. I could listen to this teacher for hours and not be bored. Really knows his stuff and loves to teach his students. I honestly wish that he could be my teacher for every subject. He is to the point and helps you learn material quickly. Love him so much!
Fun and interesting class, taught very professionally. Brother Davis has much wisdom to share both about life and about the subject. Pretty work intensive though.
Great professor! He gets straight to point and not as strict as many of the other ratings suggest. Homework is easy and his instructions are pretty straight forward. I consider myself to be an average student and I passed his class. As long as you follow instructions, attend lecture frequently (he gives a schedule) and study, you'll be fine.
One of my favorite teachers ever. Teaches history with a lot of hilarious side stories and anecdotes. Takes a fair but firm approach: if you're one minute late or fall asleep, you're politely kicked out. He once gave 5 students A's for the class and a pass on the final because he felt they had earned it over the semester for hard work.
Hope you agree with his anti-science nonsense because he literally has questions on his exams relating to his opinions on global warming. His lecture topics included alternative history based on his religious belief (with zero evidence) and a bizarre belief in a global warming conspiracy. The class itself is easy, just do the readings.
Brother Davis is an awesome professor. He is strict about deadlines and probably won't allow a lot of making up for missed assignments, but he's fair and helpful. Is hilarious and invites interaction in class. Very to the point, likes telling stories and is really good at covering the vital information.
Absolutely amazing teacher! I loved being in his class; I've never really been one for history, but he made it so much fun and extremely interesting. He is hilarious, he would always stop in the middle of lectures to tell us the stories he has. I loved having him as my professor, I so wish I could take his class again. Favorite class of the day!
