Great teacher. The class isn't as hard as people make it out to be, just study what he tells you to.

Awesome, but HARD teacher for organic chem. He is funny, and so freakin smart... nothing will stump him. Take him if you -really- want to learn the material. His test are HARD, but it makes the final exam easy ;)

Heldrich is hard, so don't take this class if you aren't serious about preparing for it. But he's very helpful, funny, and always available for extra help. Daily quizzes have helped a ton.

It's organic of course its hard. If you don't know that then don't bother taking it. But Heldrich makes the class entertaining and keeps you awake as well as answers questions and wants you to pass.

Best Organic teacher at the college by far. If he sees you doing the work, he will spend as much time giving you extra help as you need. If you're not doing anything and think you can go to him and get the answers, good luck!

Its a hard course, but he tries to make it as clear as he can. He has extra credit built into the test and is always willing to help you. You have to study but it pays off in the end.

EXTREMELY hard. I do not recommend taking him if you do not have a ton of time to dedicate to studying many hours a day. You can't really learn the course unless you do the problems and teach yourself. DO NOT GET HIM FOR LAB!He has ridiculous grading standards and does not help u AT ALL. TRUST ME!!!

Tough Love. If your are determined enough to make it in this field, then take Dr Heldrich's class. He is a genius and you will learn so much from him. Dr. Heldrich does care about his students and he makes you learn the material, but you have to put forth effort as well.

organic is a hard class. heldrich is a great teacher tho, and really helpful. his tests are very hard tho. he teaches the material well and will help you if you go to him. good guy. just don't slack off!!!

He is a good teacher, he asks hard questions in the tests. You'll learn alot. He is funny, smart, dedicated to teaching, very energetic. It was difficult for me to appreciate other chemistry teachers in the department after having him one semester. He is just superior!

Heldrich rocks. A LOT OF WORK but what do you expect from organic? you have to be passionate. he will let you live in his office as long as he can take a coffee break. I love this man. He is my inspiration. Never had a better professor or role model.

HARD PROFESSOR!!! But extremely nice man and very helpful, even though most of his class fails, he really does want you to do very well! Always in his office and the more you stop by, the better! Expects alot of his students and likes to challenge them!

He is a great teacher. He takes a very difficult subject and presents it clearly and effectively. He does challenge you though, and you do have to work for your grade.

He is willing to help, but it doesn't matter. Even with 18 point curves the average on his tests are still 50's and 60's. His class sucks, I am a straight A student and I had to withdrawal because his class was too much. If there is someone else, don't take Heldrich.

AMAZING PROFESSOR! You should consider yourself lucky to get Heldrich, but be prepared to work hard. Presently material very clearly. After his class you'll know organic better than anyone else. Take him if you're serious about chem or med school.

Very Hard Professor, but is willing to help. He also has a sense of humor if you stay in his office long enough. If you want to learn organic, take his class, but be prepared to work.

Professor Heldrich is an interesting professor. He certainly knows his stuff, but he's not for everyone. You have to be willing to put forth alot of effort for him. He is a strict grader and often moves quickly, but has been one of the most helpful professors that I have ever had. He always answered any questions I had thoroughly.

Heldrich is a hard teacher and organic is a hard class, but not impossible. He teaches quickly to try to cover maximum material. He is incredibly helpful if you do your work and ask questions when you don't get something. He has a fantastic sense of humor and really cares about his work. I took someone else for 232 and wished I hadn't.

Of course this class is going to be tough. Heldrich knows his stuff and presents the material in an understandable way. After having him, I feel that I understand the course material more so than friends who have taken other professors. If you plan to continue in chemistry, TAKE HIM.

Prof. Heldrich is likely the best professor at CofC. He is insanely smart, incredibly helpful, and pretty funny. He will spend hours helping you if you ask him to, and his lectures make hard difficult understandable. Tests are a nightmare, but this is Organic II. If you are willing to work, you will know organic chemistry. Highly recommend.

College of Charleston is fortunate to have Dr. Heldrich. Very clear in lecture (if you are prepared beforehand). Tests are very difficult, but not impossible once you understand his testing style. He demands more than most professors, but it is well worth it. If you don't know how to study, this class will teach you. Final is a breeze after Dr H.

Dr. Heldrich is a great teacher. If you go to his office he's extremely patient and helpful. Sure his tests are hard, but that goes with the course. I really wish I had taken him for organic I, too.

This class is difficult and you need to work even more than you think is necessary. But Dr. Heldrich is very helpful in his office hours, so don't be intimidated by his has fast clip in lectures. He expects you to go for help. The tests are hard but if you work through the old tests he posts on WebCT, you will know what to expect.

Smart guy who is always in his office and ready to help. His WebCT is loaded with practice problems, old tests, and other resources. Tests are insanely hard. He's awesome, but if you're not into chemistry or just trying to fulfill a requirement, take someone else because this will be a nightmare.

Dr. Heldrich's organic chemistry course is difficult but he is very willing to help you. His grading method also allows for a bad test grade which is a good thing for this course. His lectures can be confusing so it's imperative to read the chapter before the lecture or you will be completely lost. I would recommend taking his class.

Dr. Heldrich is incredible. His tests are incredibly challenging,his lectures are incredibly insightful,and for you to get an A in this class you must have an incredible work ethic. Even the students who fail with a sense of accomplishment. Organic is a hard class. If your not willing to put in the work, you better call the Citadel.

By far the best professor i've ever had. This class is hard for most but for some it just comes naturally (lucky them right). Most of the material isn't hard, its just a lot of material and you have to think critically. Stay on the grind. An A is possible. I got an A, but I worked hard. If you wanna learn org chem...take him!

OK, so you're asking yourself, should I take Dr. Heldrich's 232 class. One criteria: do you enjoy Chemistry? If the answer is yes, take the class, it will be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life. If you only want to get by with a grade and a prereq, I'd suggest looking elsewhere. Awesome teacher, his enthusiasm is his strongest suit.

Dr. Heldrich is an amazing professor, my favorite so far in college. He is absolutely more than helpful if you take the time to see him in his office, but you have to earn your grade. He definately prepares you for the final. His class requires long hours outside of class but it pays off! TAKE HIM(if you are serious about chemistry)!

Organic Chemistry is very hard. Dr. Heldrich is also hard prof. But, you LEARN A LOT! if you pass this course, 232 is easy for you. He is extremely helpful in his office hours and explains very well. His tests are difficult but it's not impossible. people who failed organic because they don't know how to study organic.

Dr. Heldrich was a fantastic teacher. I thought he didn't cover enough in lecture compared to what was expected from the text and on the test. I really benefited from his enthusiasm and I would rate him high as a professor. If you want to do well you have to study a lot and put in the time. He drinks coffee a lot, never saw him without a mug.

Everyone claims you're lucky to get a C in this class. An A is totally feasible as long as you do a little work every day. Heldrich is a great guy, funny, and incredibly knowledgeable. He's serving as interim dept chair though so his availability was a little disappointing sometimes.

Dr. Heldrich is an incredible professor. Go to class and study every day and you should be able to make at least a B in this class. It is not easy, or fun, however if you must go through organic, try getting him...you will at least know the material for the long run. I would take him again.

Hes the best there is. Heldrich is an awesome teacher and if you care about chemistry and want to learn it well take him. You will have to work a lot, maybe even study on some weekends but an A is very possible if you want it. I feel like i know organic chem like the back of my hand. I took him for both org 1 & 2. Heldrich is definitely tough, but an amazing professor, as well. I only had him for orgo lab, but he is very knowledgable and in depth when explaining the material behind the lab-- he knows his stuff! Really funny and respected. If you take him, be sure to do your reading and to be clear and thorough in your work. Highly recommend!

Dr. Heldrich is the best professor I've had at CofC by far. Truly cares about your success in the class. If you don't put the work in, you'll drown- no matter who your professor is. 4 tests, one replacement with ACS, near daily quizzes, and always available to help. He will make you an organic Jedi, if you're not a little b about it.

Not only was this the hardest class I have ever taken, but it was the most rewarding. He is a tough love kind of guy, but cares about the students who put in the effort to do well. He was hard, but he is my favorite professor at this school, and I think he is truly a gem. This is orgo, no matter who you take, this class will be your whole life.

Dr. Heldrich wants people to pass and is willing to help, however he is a tough love type of guy. He grades tests harshly and gives no curves. Your grade will be only be tests, with the opportunity to drop the lowest grade if the final is higher than your average. Orgo will be hard with any professor, so Heldrich is a good option.

Dr. Heldrich is the best! He really cares about his students, as long as youre willing to put in the effort, and he definitely acknowledges it when you provide it for him. I took him for lab, and I got really sick for a month, but he worked with me on the labs I missed so I could keep up!

It was a pleasure being in his Summer 2020 CHEM 232 class. Organic is hard and he was clear about what we need to know for the exams (which are the only thing you're graded on). That being said, he is very helpful if you come to him for questions and cares about how his students are doing. The quizzes were extra credit for exams and he rounds up!

This is an extremely difficult class but also very rewarding. He is very accessible outside of class and wants his students to do well if they work hard. If you are struggling, go to his office hours and ask him to go over studying techniques with you (changed my trajectory in the course). Do all of the textbook problems. He is a good choice.

This was by far the hardest class I have ever taken, but it is manageable. I would suggest taking fewer credit hours when taking this class. If you want an A in this class it will require daily practice. His tests are challenging, but you can work with others. Homework is based on completion and it gives you 12 points extra on the tests.
