There weren't a lot of students. As weeks went, students started to drop. He's very talkative and pushes students a lot. It's either you succeed in his class or not.
He's a good teacher but his tests are hard.
HE'S HORRIBLE AND SOOOO BORING!!!!!!
The guy tells you to see him in his office on the first day like he knows we'll all fail
do not take him! he is a loser....
He is a good teacher, but a little tough. If u want to major math, take his class. You learn a lot in his class
The best math teacher I ever had. He made algebra seem easy. I recommend him highly.
Very clear. Returned tests the next day with good answer sheets. Tells exactly what you need to know for the tests and has sample tests. I feel very prepared for Math 3B.
im warning u guys don't take him. he's hard to understand.. he mummbles a lot, can't explain the materials very well. he gives a lot of homework assignments and pop quizzes, so take him if you enjoy them!
The class I was in started with 25 students, by the end of the semester there were only 8 left. He moves fast and is hard to follow. I recommend not taking him.
Unhelpfull!!!!!Not willing to give students a break even if a family member dies!!!!!

he's stupid. when he explains something, he seems like he's just talking to himslef. he makes a lot of mistakes. he doesnt care about the students--it's either u pass or u fail. even if u work ur ass off. dont waste ur money, dont take him.
OMG! This guy is so hard and so confusing and moves so fast..gives so much homework. We started off with 30 students and everyone but 5 students dropped (including me). He like wastes time on the computer doing BS and not teaching! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
Not clear. Not helpful. The answers to my questions left me as confused as before and disencouraged to ask more because he treats question-askers with CONTEMPT.
Not clear. Not helpful. The answers to my questions left me as confused as before and disencouraged to ask more because he treats question-askers with CONTEMPT.
He is thorough, clear and always answers everyone's questions. He is also quite funny sometimes. I never liked math before I took his class.
He is very patient. He always asks for questions, but many people don't do the homework, so they don't have any. If you keep up with the homework, you will like his class.
His teaching is fine. He lets you know what you need to know for the test. Like any math class, you have to keep up to do good. But Mr. Hobbs helps you if you get stuck.
There is a lot of ideas in the course! You need to stay on top of everyting. Hobbs breaks the material down to simple steps, so if your notes are good, you'll know what to do on the homework and the tests. I learned a lot.
great guy. got to do the homework. good sense of humor. but its still math..........
Lots of homework, but you will actually learn math!!! He is helpful if you come prepared with questions.if you don't keep up it doesn't matter who you have for a professor it will be hard. Hobbs will help you.
very bad teacher
I am finally learning math!
I took his class back in 1999 and he was tough, but a very interesting teacher. He's the type of teacher who makes sure that you learn the material well, and by that I mean he assigned a lot of homework which I found to be very helpful. Thanks Professor Hobbs =)
WARNING: "ALERT" he is a jerk to students.WOnt answer questions you have. NOt concern with students progress in class. His test are confusing as hell his name isnever listed in the schedule he is under "STAFF" or no one will enroll please dont take him if you care.

He's good but there are too many younger students at mission who just goof off. If you pay attention to his great hints, he makes math easy. if you don't come to class then you will wonder what is going on.
He spends the beginning of every class answering questions and going over homework. He gives practice tests so that you know what to expect. I finally found a teacher who makes his expectations clear and he explains the ideas clearly too. I recommend Hobbs if you care about your success in math
one of the best tchrs ive had at Mission. just do the homewk and ask him if you get stuck. he's funny.
Horrible teacher, do not take. Not helpful at all, a bit arrogant. My first "C" in my ENTIRE math career, ruined my straight "A".
speaks in a very monotone voice. BORING.
his demeanor is a little quirky. his voice MONOTONE- VOCAL CODE NEEDS HELP. he does know his stuff, yet, i do not enjoy his choice in math books. too much verbage not enough practice examples. his teaching is fair to average as of yet
i ended up dropping his class to take 903 with m. davis. hobbs was very monotone, boring (i fell asleep a lot). hard to understand.
Come On..HOW FUN CAN MATH BE ANYWAYS? Umm let me put it this way, I didnt have any probleam with Rick Hobbs monotone at all...i got over it, however the only problem is that HIS TETS ARE VERY DIFFICULT, but i promise you once you go on to Math 3B, it will be a breeze for you
gives excellent examples; always answers questions; he gives sample tests, so if you study those, you will do well on his tests 'cause you know what to expect; i learned a lot
I never was good at math, but Mr. Hobbs helped me to get it for the first time. So now I can go on and finish my degree.
Very organized and let's you know what to expect....if you pay attention to what he says you need to know then you can do good. Finally a teach where you know where you stand and is clear what you have to study.
Monotone... but he knows his stuff. He's pretty harsh on grading homework. Make sure you follow his format EXACTLY. If you do all homework and can actually grasp math, he's not too bad. He gives partial credit where it's due.
WORST TEACHER EVER!!!!!i have never failed a class in my entire life and with his i was going to so i droped out...worst class ever!..i was always a A-B student in math before him...dont take him hes horable!!!!!!!!!!
i hated him!!!
He is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. He is boring, he does not answer any questions, whatsoever, and most importantly he does not teach the subject. Horrible teacher. I wish I had never taken him. Lets put it this way, I would have taken a "W" to get out of his class. WARNING!!!!!:::DO NOT GET HIM AS A TEACHER!!!!!!
He was very patient and thorough. The course is fast-paced, so if you miss many classes you get behind. I liked the way he went into detail about we should be able to do.
he is the worst teacher I've ever had.I did all my hw and he just gave me 0 without reason. the test was super hard.I have no choice but drop the class.Do not ever just think about taking his class.remember his name:RICK HOBBS-AN AWFUL TEACHER.
He gives waaay too much homework. He gives about 200 problems a week, believes that you should study 20 hours a week of math. He has a useless book of homework that's supposed to teach us to not stress with math. He believes math is God. He is insane.. It is impossible to pass his class unless you already know the material. I warn, DO NOT TAKE HIM!
He is an awsome teacher and a fair grader. Only student who isn't so good at mathematics material saying that he isn't a good teacher. Brame yourself!
There is a lot of stuff to learn in this class, so if you don't keep up, it hurts. Mr. Hobbs was patient and gave us lots of tips for doing the problems. He also taught me how to study, which is what i missed in high school.
TO THOSE WHO ARE PLANNING TO TAKE THIS TEACHER, DO NOT DO IT, HE IS NOT WORTH OF YOUR TIME, AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SEMESTER THE CLASS WAS FULL THEN ABOUT FOUR WEEKS AFTER THEIR WAS ABOUT 15 OF US LEFT IN THE CLASS, AGAIN FOR YOUR BENEFIT DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
I DON'T KNOW HOW TO MAKE MYSELF ANY CLEARER, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! HE IS A VERY BORING TEACHER AND HE IS VERY UNCLEAR. I WASTED MY MONEY AND TIME ATTENDING HIS CLASS. NOT WORTH IT. I CAN'T MAKE MYSELF ANY CLEARER BUT IF YOU DO TAKE HIS CLASS, BEWARE!! PREPARE FOR DOOM!!!
I am finally beginning to understand math! Mr. Hobbs makes everything easy to understand and he is very helpful during office hours.
He's really mean and he isn't considerate of peoples feelings. He's a hard grader and gives TONS of homework. Not a good teacher.
He gave us lots of practice to keep us sharp on the topics. I learned math finally. He is funny. Since it is a math class, you need to keep up with the homework practices.

Hobbs is efficient in teaching the material, but when it comes down to helping students he has no patience what so ever. He has pop quizzes mostly every class which helps, but can be very annoying! I'm pretty bad at math as well so I could not stand someone who had little interest in my helping me.
he is ok. i ask questions if i don't get it and he help me to understand. everyday he ask if students have questions. his test is fair because he let you know what to study.
Don't take his class!
really really bad prof!I know all these calculus stuff but got a C in his class just because of the tons homework(need to completely follow his format, again, completely,no mistake, even the smallest one!) and the books of test in class!no extra credit for the difficult problems included in the test,so if u got 89/115,it's a C,can't ever believe it!
He is great in helping students and give extra hand outs that make things more clear than the book. I learn much from him.
Wonderful! He is my best Math instructor until now. He explains clearly everything in class. He goes over the problem every meeting. He has some extra credits that encourage students to think about the problems. However, he is strict. Never mind! If you have interest in Math, take his class. It is unforgettable. I am pleased to be in this class.
He helped me out a lot when I couldnt get a problems. He lets everyone know what to expect, so you know what will be on the test and how to do homework. I used to be disorganized person and now I do good and it helps.
His lectures are fun and helpful. But his monotone is boring. He's a tough guy but he does know his stuff so it's his class where u can actually learn math. It's not an easy class so if u want an A/B and u're not really good at Math then don't take him. However, I HIGHLY recommend him to students who are majoring in science, math and engineering.
Lots of homework. Sometimes he mixed simple concepts with complex numbers. Complicated and tedious calculation made me dizzy and in the end I missed the important concepts and process. Example: To learn addition, instead of (X = 3+5+2), you might get (X = ln 3 + cosine 5 + square root of 2). He is a dedicated teacher and has high standard.
I finally had a good experience with my math, even though it took a lot of time. At least the professor was clear and helpful. Math is not my favorite subject, but at least now I get it.
Hobbs is a really bad teacher. I have never been good with math but when I really tried I usually got it. On top of really struggling in this class, the teacher gives way too much homework, teaches new material while expecting us to study older material for tests. Grades extremely hard, refuses to help students, shows no interest in his students
one of the best teachers a mission. he lets you know what to expect and give good advice. he helps us to avoid mistakes.
He is a very boring teacher and shows no interest in teaching. Puts the hardest questions on exams and does not review material before exam days. He will drop you without even notifying you. This class had only 10 people left out of 30+ student in the beginning. Do not take him! He is a waste of time and money!
The worst teacher I have ever had! I dropped this class after about 2 1/2 months of listening to his annoying voice. He assigns 2 sections of homework a night with a lot of problems on each section. His tests are ridiculous; way too many fractions and word problems! His fraction work sheets are to be 100% correct, or no credit will be given. BAD!!!
The first time I've seen this teacher he seemed really easy. Until a couple weeks passed and I saw his true teaching methods. His teaching methods are efficient, but he expects way too much from the students. If you take this class expect to study math everyday because it was really hard for me.As weeks pass by watch more and more students disappear
I don't care what people say about this teacher he is the worst!!!! I had him this last semester and WOW CAN YOU SUCKS!!!!!! This man should retire. Not only dose he give you two to three leasons of homework each night he also gose on to other chapter before you get done with the chapter you are working on. He is TERRIABLE!!! don't take his class!!
Mr Hobbs expects a lot out his students... you will have to work very hard in order to pass. His final exam was the longest exam I've ever taken... out of the survivors.. no one actually completed the exam. He explains math pretty well though, so if you have the time to work at match, and can stand his quirks.. you will learn a lot.
he's thorough and tells us what we need to know for each topic and for tests. he has sample test so you know what to study. the homework is good practice to help me learn
he's cool, but its still math. i got through it with his help.
Excellent teacher.... If you want to learn math, he is the best person to learn it from. I was his student last year and i still go to him for doubts in my calculus, or any other math class. very very helpful. If you learn math from him you can challenge any one that you know that topic and win. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
He's a great teacher, but he expects alot and he sucks at teaching. He's very mean, we can't even ask questions with him getting an attitude. We can't eat in there or drink. So if your looking for a easier way out don't take HOBBS..
he is ridiculous! i just dropped his class. ive always done great in school and i had a d- in his class. he has a crap load of hw and his stupid worksheets have to be 100% or zero credit. its his way or no grade. forget that. whoever says hes cool lied. the only good thing is he like the sharks. he laughs at his own jokes. come one now.dont take!
Do not take him if you are looking to get a GOOD grade. He's a tough grader, and gives a RIDICULOUS amount of homework! He shows no interest in students, has an attitude, and is cranky 90% of the time. He will drop you without notifying you as well. His tests are super long, and include the hardest math problems. Hobbs expects a lot.
RE:I highly recommened to not take this teacher... I am in this class and you were doing more than turning your text book pages. You were disrespectful, rude, obnoxious, and disruptive to those of us who are there to LEARN! After reading your post, I suggest you stay in school, pay attention and take your education seriously!
RE:I am in this class First of all when someone looks through thier textbook, their learning. And its funny I'm in the class and that person was no where being disrepectful. I have no clue what that you are talking about. So replying to your post I suggest you to learn how to focus on yourself, mind your own buisness, and learn how to rate a teache
I had an A in 2 previous math classes. I had to drop this class because I was failing. I did all the homework, had the textbook in my face all the time, went to the math lab several times, but it would now help in this class. You are basically set up to fail in this class. Questions? forget it, he didnt want to hear it!
Mr. Hobbs is very thorough in his teaching. He has us do math problems in class and then walks around and checks our work. People who think math is boring shouldn't take his class because he's sort of monotone. If you do 20-30 math problems a day, you'll be on track for the class. He was kind and helpful to me. If you like math, you'll like him.
I learned a lot from him. He actually helps you to learn how to learn maths. He helps me a lot when I get stuck and show me how to do the steps and also to get some practice on the internet.
DOnt take this class!!!!! Mr. Hobbs is the worst math teacher i ever had. Just stay way if you can.
He's a nice teacher and easy to talk to. He has helped me deal with some of my fears about math. He knows whats coming up in the next classes so he tries to make sure that you know that stuff. I wish i had more time to study.
Terrible teacher. 2/3 of the people in my class had to drop because this guy cannot teach anyone anything. He doesn't care about students at all. You essentially have to learn everything on your own. Good luck...
I took this class because i could not enter intermediate math without knowing Algebra 2. However Prof. Hobbs is a horrible math teacher. His dry, boring, arrogant attitude makes sitting in his class for 2 1/2 hours seems like hell. Anyway i passed the final by learning it on my own through the book! I woud have failed just listening to him!
I had Math C with Hobbs and I absolutly hated the class and him. He gives so much homework it is extremely hard to catch up once you miss or fall behind. His tests are hard and he did not care if any of the students didn't understand. If you take his class be sure to work HARD and be prepared for lots of homework!
don't take him if you're lazy. lots of home work but if you want to learn take his class.
He gets annoyed when people ask him to clarify something while he's lecturing and he grades too harshly. You can understand the concepts turn in all your homework complete, correct, and on time and still get a B- for things completely unrelated to math. I only have an A because I have serious OCD and I've taken this class before.
If you want to learn beyond the textbook and be able to see it apply to life situations, Hobbs is very good. A lot of homework to keep on, but he will allow you to redo w.s. until you understand and get it right. He gives many resources to help succeed.
It's hard to rate him. I found his lectures useful, but a lot of people didn't. He is really hard and isn't always great at explaining things in class. He is passionate about math and cares that people learn it, though, and I feel really well prepared in pre-calculus right now. If you take him, just be ready to work your butt off.
he lets you know what to expect. his tests are just like the practice test he gives us before the test. his lectures all tells you what examples to study and how to do it. you will learn a lot if you pay attention and do the practice
Not very good at teaching!
He seems to enjoy math more than teaching. He assigns a TON of homework and doesn't use course compass, so,you have to write it all out by hand, graphs too. By semester's end there were only 6 of us left out of 30+. If you're a math person like me, you'll do fine with his explanations but if Math isn't your thing I'd recommend taking someone else.
I had Math 3A with Hobbs and I absolutely hated the class and him. Hobbs is a horrible math teacher I ever had. His dry, boring, arrogant attitude makes sitting in his class for 2 1/2 hours seems like hell. He's very mean; we can't even ask questions with him getting an attitude. He is ridiculous. He gives so much homework it is extremely hard to c
I took his 3A class, after a month or a month and half, the students in his class dropped from more than 50 down to 12. And at last, 8 ppl in the class keep it up and about 5 ppl got an A due to his compassion... He's not too hard like ppl who has never done his class left commence here! Not going to school if you think it's totally easy to learn!
Take his class and you'd be comfortarble on your next class. Attendance is not mandatory. The homeworks? he made us do e.o. problems in each chapt. The quiz? He made us do the quiz on the board since by the half of the semester there were only 8 us remaining out of 35 people. He is a difficult grader but he doesn't make the grades, the students do.

Horrible teacher! He gives SO much homework including worksheets, 60 questions in book work and practice quizzes. You also have to write every word in the problem for textbook work (even the word problems). He's rude and only wants work shown the way he taught or it's wrong. If you don't show up to his class he will drop you or even worse fail.
horrible teacher!! makes you write all the problems and answers on your home work. You are graded on how well you can follow his guide lines and not your ability to understand math. I waited too long to take my placement test after hight school and thought this class should be a brezz, but I was so wrong!! consider your life stressed out.
He is a horrible teacher DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! I AM AN (A) STUDENT AND HE WAS STILL UNBELIEVABLY HARD
I did not get an A in his class. His tests cover every thing he taught. Helpful teacher if you want to have a strong base for your higher math classes. If you take his class, you are expected to spend 20 hours on his homework every week.
Many people complain that he is hard and his method is not helpful. That's not true at all!! He is a very nice person who will answer your questions if you ask. The problem is his tests and material are really challenging. The homework problems he assigned are really useful. If you spend time doing the, you will be just fine.
He grades very hard and is extremely strict. Attendance is mandatory. His teaching dmethod is boring. Nobody in the class says a thing. His test is super hard. harder than the assignments u do at home. Homework is a lot. he is also really cold. Dont take his class even unless u have no choice.
Worst teacher in the world. He assigns a whole chapter for homework and gives u a week to do it. His test are hard and his quizzes and in class assignments are hard. He gets mad if you don't understand a problem . If you have Bad grade in the class he will drop you without telling you. Unless you absolutely love math I advise you not to take it
not a bad teacher. just method
Hard. Is picky about everything. If you dont turn in his homework in his "special" format, you get cut mega pointos. Took this class again with dedinsky and it was much, much simpler. veryveryvery strict.
He's very strict when it comes to HW, but in the long run it will help you. He gives so much HW so you can get used to writing down the steps, which helps students memorize the concepts. Got a B in Math 903, but Math C I got an A+ because he set me up so well. If you don't show up and do the work, don't expect to pass.
WORST Teacher Ever. STAY AWAY
Worst teacher in the world. DO NOT TAKE HIM
34 sat comfortably down at the start of the semester. 2 passed the class. Two people PASSED. Not an A, or a B, but a pass. He is the reason i got to stay here for another semester. Apparently untouchable cuz he is the Department Head.
One of the worst teachers I have EVER had. I would advise those who are horrendous at mathematics like me to beware. If you don't do the homework in his special format you get docked MAJOR points for it and I'm not talking about formatting the problems, I'm taking about the bloody header. Buyer BEWARE
STAY AWAY... He is the worst math teacher I've ever had.
He's really strict on attendance. I came thirty seconds late and he didn't let me take the quiz. He's not easy to talk to, can care less about you. Notes don't really work, reading the textbook yourself is easier. Has fraction actions that are helpful though.
Mr Hobbs is the best math teacher i have had. He explains everything clear. He answers all my questions. He makes things simple. He is also funny.
Though he is strict just do your homework and make sure you attend class because he does give classwork but he does upload them in angel. I missed 5 days and I did fine. For review I just usually do all homework since it helps a lot when you do the work when it comes to test.
hes the worst teacher ever! such a hard class, don't take him!
He is not a good teachers it gets boring and he could care less about if you do or don't pass and the worst part is that he is math department chair so you can't really complain to anyone, very strict on attendance and very harsh on grading. I WHOLE BUNCH OF HOMEWORK. It's ridiculous. He is way to difficult and not caring or helpful past hours.
This teacher is in my opinion, very difficult. You would think the class is easy, but it's not. In the beginning of the semester he suggests that you ask questions, but when you ask him questions he ends up getting mad. He has a monotonic voice which makes the class even less interesting.
I took his class in fall 2013. He was nice teacher and very helpful. He has a lot of homework but its worth it if you do all of it because its usually helps with quiz and test. If you need help you can always asked but he doesn't take late homework so you need to attend class.
WARNING!!! Danger!! Turn back now!!!!!
He give out confusing lecture sometimes he's get ahead of himself and throw in some problems that is 2-3 chapter a head. The amount of homework he gives out is a lot and is all done by hand so expect to get some callus. When you turn in anything to him you'll need to write your answer step by step in both your homework and test
Do not take this professor, kept doing fraction worksheets that made no sense when we were learning about graphing linear equations, made no sense while lecturing and told me to "pay attention" when i asked him what chapter we were discussing.
Don't take this professor, Fraction action sheets made no sense. Very little help when it comes to out of class help. Horrible teaching, expects you to know skills that are just learned after spending next to no time working on the just learned skill. Very unhelpful professor.
Very clear. He let's you know the pitfalls of what you will be doing and gives us many examples to use. He always answers questions and is very nice in office hours and in class. The class goes by fast and only meets two times each week, so you have to keep up.
Took this class in Fall 2015, not sure how he is now, but one of the hardest math teachers I've ever had. Don't bother skipping class-- if you skip one class you're screwed. Very old fashioned, we used the textbook and wrote down our problems/answers. Isn't very welcoming when it comes to asking questions about problems.
Took this class and decided to withdraw. He doesn't seem to understand that us students are taking his class to learn the material he is teaching. From what I can remember, he'd tell the class that we should already know the material especially when it came to fractions. Save yourself the trouble. He will make you redo worksheets if they are wrong.
