You couldn't ask for a better Sign Language instructor!

i love rick. i took him for three quarters and couldn't ask for a better instructor. very thorough, good examples, good communication. FUN!
Rick is the man.
Rick is a very nice, skilled teacher. He comes prepared to class everyday and really knows his stuff. I disagree with him one some issues but he always respects my position. Great Teacher and a Great Guy!
This is my favorite class. Rick is always in a good, fun mood and makes the class so enjoyable. Awesome class, I look forward to higher ASL level classes with him.
Rick Mangan is awesome! He is a born teacher. It doesn't get any better!
He's very understanding and dedicated to make everyone get an A in his class. He's very respectful and makes you want to come to class.
BEST TEACHER AT BCC! HE'S HILLARIOUS. YOU SHOULD TAKE ASL EVEN IF YOU DO NOT NEED A LANGUAGE. IT'S DEFINATELY WORTH IT :) RICK'S A GREAT TEACHER.
He is awesome!
Rick is a fabulous teacher. Friendly, honest, funny, interesting, talented, and very helpful. Definitly makes class worth while and works to challenge you and help you learn ASL. One of my all time favorite teachers.
One of my fav. teachers. He's hilarious and open to doing what is best for that certain class. He knows his stuff and his enthusiasm passes on to the students. I loved going to his class; it was always interesting. Sometimes he would even make the tests fun! Open to discussions. Rick is AWESOME.
this was fun class--he makes signing fun
The BEST teacher at BCC! Clear, concise, and makes the class seem fairly easy. Definitely recommended.
Awesome teacher. So helpful and understanding. Would recommend him for all ASL classes. Makes class fun and exciting as well. Take him if you can!
Rick is one of the best teachers I've ever had. Extremly entertaining and very effective in teaching the more complicated aspects of ASL. Awesome class.
Rick is great at explaining deaf history and culture. He was very accomodating and flexible in terms of when homework should be turned in since its summer quarter. He's very helpful when you need extra assistance. He definately makes learning ASL fun.
Best teacher at BCC. Really makes learning sign language fun and interesting. Always willing to help his students with any questions they have. Great sense of humor and awesome teaching style. Definantly take a class from this guy before you leave BCC.

Great teacher. Very helpful and understanding. Rick really tries to include everyone and makes them feel welcome. Great assignments that help you learn a lot. Definitely some of the more fun classes I have taken. Their pretty easy too.
Rick was the best ASL teacher I have ever had. He's helpful, very down to earth, and super chill.
I liked him as a person, but I found it challenging to learn from him at times, mainly b/c he spoke as he is not deaf, whereas my 101 and 102 teachers were deaf and didnt talk.
Rick is amazing! The class was so much fun and i learned a great deal. He was easy to understand and he reminds me and a few others of Willy Wonka b/c he is crazy and out there. I find myself enthralled in his pantomime and whenever i talk i tend to sign.
He was the worst ASL teacher that I've ever had. He spoke the ENTIRE class time and we never went over the vocab. When I asked him to go over the vocab in class, or atleast use it, he said that it was our responsibility to do that outside of class. How can we learn when we are not surrounded by the language?
Rick has a contagious personality an a passion for ASL. I highly recommend him as a teacher, especially if you love ASL. Rick tends to speak a lot in 102 because there is a lot of history to learn here and it is hard to learn all of that if you do not understand the language fully, 103 however has less speaking in order to surround you in ASL. A++
Pretty good teacher. It would be more helpful is he made it more mandatory to use only ASL in class.
Rick was a really fun person to be around, and it is true, his love for ASL is contagious! However, I really feel like it would have made it easier to learn the language if he did not allow his students to speak. There were no "midterms" or "finals", just tests frequently and homework assignments. Definetly taking him again next quarter!
such a good teacher! esp for asl 101 classes
He is an awesome teacher and is so passionate about American Sign Language. His method of using humor in his teaching made him really fun and interesting. I actually looked forward to going to class and it was really useful that he can speak english. Most the ASL teachers are deaf and can only sign so you have an advantage with him
Extremely good teacher. I loved his classes. He does talk a lot, but it's worth it. Take Ricks class! You will learn and have a blast at the same time!
Loved this class. Great guy. He really cares about his students and it's so much fun.
Well prepared and a good attitude. Doesn't spend much time on the vocabulary. Says we must "learn that on our own." We had to pay a lab fee but there was never any mention of any lab at all.
So, I have mixed feelings about this professor. As a teacher he's great. I feel as if its wrong that he speaks during class and allows students to do so though, because of that we can't learn the language and my fluency has struggled. I think that ASL should be taught in silence. Also, he has really bad mood swings, and he picks favorites.
He Show up little late for class everyday, i guess that's not his fault because it hard to get up in the summer time. He has 2 absents throughout the quarter. other then that He's a Friendly teacher, and he has lot of experience of teaching.
Though late quite a bit, I look forward to his class every day. His teaching style is a different than most but it works out perfectly for me! The class is amazing, but it's also because of the classmates.. but we're talking about the professor here :D Rick is an all around great teacher and I enjoy coming every day
I had him for 102 and 123. Best ASL teacher for this level. Made it fun, and challenging enough to stay interested. TOTALLY recommend him. :)
I think he did a great job teaching our class. We also asked a lot of questions, which allowed him to clarify in more detail. I learned a lot from his class & would definitely do it all over again!
Rick's a nice guy, but his enormous ego gets in the way of effective teaching. Plus, he talks all the way through the quarter, which hardly prepares you for the next class. We paid a lab fee but there was no lab; so typical of BCC.
Rick is great teacher For this class, he will help you if YOU asks for it, some on people on here are unfiar like he talks in class, he talk to help the students unterstand what he are teaching, he DID NOT have a big ego(unlike some people on here)He is funny and keeps class fun so U want to learn ASL, If I could have him for my 122 ASL& I have him
He's a great teacher! Our whole class wants to have him for each remaining section of ASL! Go Rick!
Rick is hands down the best instructor ......... he is willing to work with you so that you understand what is going on in the class......our entire class is taking ASL 2 with him next quater........GO RICK !
I've had a few ASL instructors and Mangan's approach is by far the best. Instead of learning just signs, he breaks down the concepts of ASL and tries to have you understand that you are not simply signing English. ASL is a different game with different rules. By the end of the quarter you will be thinking in ASL. Provided you do the work.
Rick is the best! He is a very good man with the a true and great desire to help people learn ASL! I love him!! I will take him until I have to take another professor for a higher level of ASL!
RICK IS AWESOME!! I went into ASL 1 knowing the alphabet and a few random signs, but quickly found that even those with zero previous signing experience enjoyed the class and were able to earn As. Rick made sure the class had a thourough and complete understanding of ASL and we were very prepared for ASL 2 (which was also awesome)
Go Rick!! Please don't ever leave Bellevue College!
What more can I say ? Take this class then you will see
Great instructor and extremely easy on the eyes :-)
awesome, that about sums it up.
He's Aces
Awesome. I actually look forward to class. Probably the only one I would ever take during the summer.
Rick is THE best teacher I have ever had. Extremely helpful and fun. He's is quite funny too! I hope he teaches the higher ASL classes because he is a blast!
Personally, I didn't like Rick that much. He didn't explain things very well and he never gave study guides or reminded you when the next quizzes were going to be. For ASL 2, you have to have 6 hours of Signing time outside of the classroom which is a big commitment.
Rick is a Awesome teacher and he makes the class very fun. The big thing is you attend class regurlarly or work out something with him if you cannot make it. he is very fair and commical
A good teacher, Rick teaches and explains concepts very well, a fairly easy grader, and funny, you will have trouble finding someone with more enthusiasm and passion. WARNING: there is little or zero test prep (ur on your own) but his presentation projects make up for it.
I loved Rick! He made you feel interested in ASL by teaching you things you would need to know in every day situations. Very easy to ask him for help, and always willing to help. Made attending school enjoyable. Go Rick!
Rick is AWESOME!!! This class is fun and interesting. He explains everything very well. He does not always tell you about hwk assignments so make sure to always check your schedule. I personally hardly used the book but it is very helpful for those where signing doesnt come naturally. The quarter is almost over and i have an A+. Highly recommend!!!
He is soooo funny, and he makes class enjoyable and interesting. If you diligently check the schedule, go to class everyday, and study, you will easily get an A.
Rick is a great teacher! you learn so much within the first couple weeks. You don't use the textbook very much at all, definitely look at the schedule every day though cause there isn't much review in class. Be prepared to socialize/sign with the people in your class and make sure to make your attendance regular otherwise you'll miss quizzes!
RICK IS AMAZING! Hands down. I took ASL at my high school. And Rick is a best teacher I have had. I HIGHLY recommend taking Ricks class. He is really funny, and makes every class day interesting. Textbooks don't really get used. CHECK THE SCHEDULE. Easy to pass if you do the work and go to class. Plain & simple : AWESOME
I LOVE RICK! I just had in for ASL 121, and I honestly don't think there is a better teacher! He's super funny, kind, understanding, and he's REALLY good at teaching ASL. I plan on taking all 4 years of ASL. If you're considering it, I would highly recommend taking this class with Rick. I looked forward to it every day I had that class.
super cool, explanatory, easy to understand, helpful
He made class interesting and fun. There was never a dull moment in class. All of the assignments and exams were explained very clearly. He has a great sense of humor.
This is an outstanding teacher! He is perfectly clear in his teaching, makes the class fun and interesting,is extremely organized and effective. He has taught for years and it very experienced. I would recommend him to anyone.
awesome teacher for all ASL classes that he teaches. answers all questions and is very helpful. learned alot in his class and had a lot of fun at the same time.
Rick's a great teacher! I loved having him for ASL 1 and 2. He really loves his job, his language and his students. It shows. Great caring guy who will take you far - if you let him. On the downside it's a lot of out of class bookwork that may not be the right style for some. All-in-all, fabulous teacher.
Absolutely OUTSTANDING professor!!!! Rick is very engaging, funny, and interested in our success. He expects you to practice, but is always helpful and available. He is very fair and makes the class very interesting. He has many years of experience and is very free with his advice and helpfulness. I HIGHLY reccommend his classes!!
Rick is the best teacher I've had so far. He definitely knows what he's doing and is very good at it. He is well engaged with the class and the students. It's never been boring! If you're planning on taking ASL, get Rick as your teacher!
Rick is awesome. His class is interactive and fun. His passionate about deaf culture and ASL becomes contageous. The video/book is confusing, but Rick has created a supplemental booklet/DVD which is very helpful. He finds ways of helping us to understand and remember the signs, and clearly wants his students to do well.
THERE IS NO TALKING IN CLASS, he is always willing to help if you ask, he wants you to get a good grade and will help you over bumps, IT IS VITAL THAT YOU PAY ATTENTION. he is very aware of texting. he's funny. If you sign to him and he stares at your face he's not being weird, he's an experienced signer; he's a great teacher I highly recommend him
BEST ASL TEACHER. He cares SO much about this subject & his students. He's hilarious, and isn't deaf, so you're able to speak to him if you have questions. you have to study, the tests are easy but he pulls out a lot of ASL 1&2 material. Work hard and an A is simple to get. Show up to class, he has a lot of random fingerspelling quizzes
He is one of the best teachers ever. He is so funny and nice and always here to help. If you can get him, do you will be glad you did. He doesn't really use the book but he references it and follows along with it. It's an easy class if you come often and do the work, practice makes perfect. Overall the best teacher alive!
Very good teacher and will help you if you need it. Just make sure to do all your work and you'll be fine.
Rick is extremely enthusiastic and an effective teacher. Ask him anything and he is happy to help. He is interested in helping you to learn, and in giving you good grades.
Rick is such an amazing teacher! He is very clear with what he is teaching and what he wants you to do. His teaching methods are fantastic and he is just amazing! He is very funny and really easy to talk to! He grades based of effort when it comes to most things.
Rick knows how to teach. He is flexible and has an innate ability to recognize students' needs. BC is beyond lucky to have him. Top notch- kind, funny, very intelligent, patient, and genuine. Extra points in exams. Must attend every day, as w/any FL. Be prepared for work, but also prepared to enjoy. Learned more than FL; Deaf culture fascinating.
excellent teacher; highly motivated to help you learn
One of the best teachers I've ever had, the class is mandatory to attend every day but I found myself looking forward to going. He ties humor into tests, assignments are fairly easy if you have been paying attention, and you get a little bit of a bonus because he is only partially deaf, he does talk! TAKE THIS CLASS
Rick is an amazing teacher. He's passionate about what he does and inspires enthusiasm for Deaf culture in all of his students. It's a fair amount of work but that's to be expected when learning a whole new language. He's the best teacher I've ever had at Bellevue.
Really great ASL teacher. Don't talk during class all the time or he'll get mad at you. He is hard of hearing so he can answer complicated questions in english (and hear your gossip). Really funny and understanding. Best teacher i've ever had pretty much! He puts jokes in his tests..can't get any more awesome.
HE IS A GREAT TEACHER! In order to succeed you must be willing to practice outside of class! He is an amazing teacher and has a passion for ASL. TAKE HIM! YOU WON'T REGRET IT
Rick is fantastic teacher. He is passionate about ASL and the Deaf community and gives his students all of the tools to be successful. If you attend every class, the book is almost not necessary as your in-class activities prepare you well for quizzes and tests. GREAT INSTRUCTOR!!
Rick is hands down the best teacher I have ever had! His teaching style is wonderful and i feel it forms to all learning styles. Not only are his classes extremely fun but you learn so much. You will learn how to sign along with learning about culture and history. If you can take Ricks class you 100% should!
Rick definitely held us to the college standards but he was clear, funny, helpful and I would say one of the best teachers I have had. Good first year class because while you can't talk in class he always took a few minutes before and after class to take "voice on" questions.
Rick is a wonderful teacher and makes class super fun. He signs for most of the class, but answers questions and clarifies when needed. His technique helps you learn the language by being submerged in it everyday, using a voices-off classroom. Great if you've already been introduced to the language, and knowing the vocab is essential to passing.
Very funny guy... makes you want to learn the language. Absolutely no pressure in his class where it has been the opposite in other language classes I have taken. Do your homework (don't get it that often) and attend class and you'll pass. Spend even the minimal amount of time studying and should get that A.
Rick is not the teacher to take for ASL 3. His tests are difficult and he doesn't use class time to prepare us for his tests. He rarely taught us new signs, instead he assumed we knew all the signs of ASL. Expect to do a lot of self teaching if you take his class.
Rick is the best teacher I've ever had! He really puts time into his lesson plans and cares about all his students. The class is fast-paced but if you pay attention and put in the time outside of class you'll get an A. He is so friendly and helpful and I found myself looking forward to his class everyday! Take Rick, you won't regret it!
Rick is one of the best teachers out there. He WANTS you to succeed. Gives extra credit points that add up. Did I mention he's hilarious? You will definitely need to practice. He forces you to interact with others and the class has a real community feel. He loves what he does and is incredibly knowledgeable. Interested in ASL? Take this class!
Rick is the bomb! He is seriously the best teacher I've ever had! I love this guy! He is so unique and amazing. He has done so many things and is so willing to share life experiences with the class and even creates an environment where the students feel free and comfortable to share about themselves as well. I learned so much! He is so great!
Rick is a very good teacher. Expect to teach yourself the vocabulary after the 1st few weeks. The book is a must as is the BC "vocabulary book" He has good lectures and is most of the time engaging. Expect to do alot of meet ups outside of class as a requirement to pass. If you pay attention and learn the vocabulary you will do just fine.
Rick is a great teacher. He is friendly, kind, and understanding. He gives grace for tests by providing extra credit, but tests are quite hard. If your ASL class meets only twice a week, you have to put in effort outside of class to go over the textbook though. If you are not willing to do this, take a daily class.
Literally LOVE Rick. He's funny and cares about your learning. Participation and attendance REALLY MATTERS! Studying is a must. 100% would recommend.
Rick is absolutely the best professor you will ever have! He is very easy to understand, he's funny, he'll tell you ways you can pass his class and the best part is he understands the life of a student! He's great!
Rick is so caring and helpful
Rick is the best teacher I've ever had. His love for ASL will make you fall in love with ASL too. He lays out clear expectations for the class. He's very accessible outside of class, and he encourages students to experience Deaf Culture out in the "real world." Please take Rick, I can't explain how much I love this man.
One of the best professors I've had! Explains things very well during lectures and is super kind.
Rick is the best! His teaching style is amazing, and he always makes class fun and interesting. He was my favorite professor at BC, and I couldn't suggest him enough. Take advantage of the outside ASL and Deaf Culture events to be really successful in his classes. Do not miss out on taking class from him!
Amazing! One of the best teachers I have ever had! Rick cares about each of his students and cracks jokes constantly so everyone is comfortable in class, and in tests. I had him for ASL101 and the students in class that got the worst grades were the students that didn't show up. Makes sense, it's a ASL class! So study and show up! 11/10 Teacher.
Rick is the best professor I have ever had in the past 4 years of CC! Super fun, funny, and easy going. The class is only an hour long, so expect to read and study outside of class. Most of the time he does not allow talking in his class, but afterwards if you have a question he allows you to talk. Be sure to study and practice outside of class!
Rick is the BEST teacher I have ever had. He wants students to succeed. On one project, the whole class did poorly and he allowed the project to be redone as many times as we wanted until we got a good grade. His tests are pretty easy if you go to class and glance through the textbook the night before. I would definitely take more of his classes.
Rick was hands down was one of the best teachers I have had at BC! He is so funny, nice, outgoing and cares about each of his students. He wants you to do well and learn all about ASL at the same time. He makes it easy to talk to your classmates and grades fairly. He prepares you well for each test, highly recommend!
Amazing professor very helpful super funny
Rick is a great teacher! Highly recommend! He just wants everyone to succeed and will really take the time to make sure that happens. He's extremely knowledgable and passionate about ASL, which makes it more fun to learn from him. He's very big on acceptance and encourages his students to be ok with making mistakes. You will learn tons and it's fun
Great teacher, funny and helpful. There's a lot of in class group activities, which helps. Quizzes are not too difficult if you look in your book and watch the DVD. Come to class everyday. He could work on responding to emails/Canvas messages in a more timely manner.
He likes starting class with having students ask him questions. Quizzes can be hard, so attendance is important, as well as looking in the book outside of class and watching the DVD. In class group activities help with signing skills. He needs to work on responding to emails. He falls behind on grading. He comes to class late most of the time.
Rick makes learning ASL fun and jam packs a lot of info into class without making it feel like you're being bombarded with history or new signs. Keep up on homework/ review and tests will not be difficult. Absolutely hilarious and really cares about the success of students. I was only going to take ASL 121 and 122 but might take all of them now
Falls behind on grading, doesn't respond to emails in a timely manner. Expects students to read the textbook outside of class/watch DVD. Several quizzes and 1 big project. Doesn't enforce a "no-eating" rule. Students should eat before/after class, so it's less distracting. Doesn't really post grades on Canvas, he has his own separate grade book.
Falls behind on grading, doesn't respond to emails in a timely manner. Expects students to read the textbook outside of class/watch DVD. Several quizzes and 1 big project. Doesn't really offer any extra credit. Doesn't enforce a "no-eating" rule; I think he should so it's less distracting in class.
Rick is kind and really funny, but he is a better person than a teacher. I'm going to give you the negatives, if you take his first class he will show up late most days. He doesn't prep his class and it seems like he is just winging it. He doesn't go over signs in class that much and he tells random stories that don't have to do with anything.
Rick is a great caring teacher and is great at helping his student understand ASL and deaf culture, he will get mad if you do something that is rude in deaf culture but uses it to teach you how to be better.
I loved Rick! He made ASL so much fun. This class had some outside of class assignments but mostly had tests in class. Never used textbook in class but was useful outside of class.
Rick is super kind and funny. He cares about his students and is incredibly flexible. At times, he can seem disorganized, but overall he is fantastic!
Rick is an incredible professor... In fact, the best I've ever had. Not only does he teach you the language, he teaches you the culture. There frequent quizzes and tests but it's easy IF YOU STUDY. Not too difficult given the subject. He is hilarious, charismatic, and loves to get to know his students. Oh, and he loves to bring his puppy to class.
Rick is by far the best teacher I've EVER had. He's incredibly caring and passionate for what he does. He lives by the phrase "dare to be wrong", and makes the classroom an environment where your mistakes are valuable and help you grow. Hilarious guy, 10/10 would recommend.
Rick might be a great person outside of class but a HORRIBLE Teacher. Never responds to emails. Most days late to class and hardly ever prepared. What he lectures on in class is different from when we are at home teaching our self from the book. For some of our test we sat in a community computer lab with so much noise and distractions.
HE IS AMAZING TAKE HIS CLASS!
Rick is such an amazing teacher! He makes all of the classes super fun and really wants you to learn the language and get immersed in deaf culture. There are lots of quizzes/tests but he drops your worst score in each category. Make sure you do the book work even though it isn't officially assigned, there are lots of signs from it that are on tests
I had Rick for five quarter of ASL. I had a couple different ASL teachers before him and he is by far the best teach I have ever had. By far my favorite college professor.
A real funny dude. He's hard of hearing so if your question is too complex to sign as a first-year then you can just ask it but that is kind of wack for immersion so pros and cons. Lots of fingerspelling pop quizzes but just practice. Have a friend coming into this class to practice and play with the language. A pretty good class all in all
Rick is an awesome teachers and you should totally take his class! This was my first ever ASL class and Rick made it super fun and easy to learn. All you have to do is pay attention in class and you should be fine.
Very very unorganized, never responds to emails is VERY unclear on project rubrics and when asking for help made me and other classmates feel stupid wouldnt recommend this class at all but because he was so unorganized he was flexible with grading
Rick is really funny and he makes class very entertaining, but I can't lie he is unprofessional. He shares students' low grades with the entire class and will single out kids for not doing well. He is tough on attendance which is interesting considering he completely missed class sometimes. I am sure he is better for in person classes, though.
Rick is my favorite ASL teacher. He had a hard time teaching online but readily admitted his mistakes and fixed every single one. I would love to take him in person if possible. Teaches well and very easy to understand. Answers ALL questions without judging. EXTREMELY flexible with late work, just ask. Wants you to succeed. Highly recommend.
I thoroughly enjoyed my experience in Rick's ASL class. Unlike in my past language learning experience, we got to learn about the "whys" and "hows" of the language instead of just the whats. It also doesn't hurt that Rick is a very funny and genuine professor who cares about you and your wellbeing more than due dates. Highly recommend.
Good professor, and fun calss. Our class started out online, which was not taught well, then in-person which was super accommodating and fun. As someone who started at ASL 2, his class was sort of hard when it came to quizzes/tests. info was required that was taught in ASL1 than was not recovered before the tests. he sometimes brings his dog too.
BEST TEACHER EVER!! If you're looking to learn ASL I 100% recommend going through Rick! He really allows you to play with the language and you learn to sign while having a ton of fun. Flexible on grades. He is hilarious and takes time out of his week for students to meet up after school for a chat night to get practice with their signing. 10/10 :)
Rick provides a very comfortable environment for his students to interact in. He wants you to try your best and he understands that everybody will make mistakes. He's got a funny personality. My only issue with his class was a lack of clear grading criteria at times, but he's always willing to talk after class to clarify whatever you need.
Rick is awesome. I took his asl 1 class and I am taking asl 2 with him next quarter because he made me love asl so much. He is funny and silly, respectful and understanding, and a really good teacher. He understands how to teach human brains and how people learn languages so all of his methods are super effective and engaging. Favorite professor :)
This is my second quarter with Rick, and I continue to be happy with him as a professor. He is incredibly understanding and respectful. He understands more than most, the nuances and challenges with teaching a language. He understands that each student is being brave by stepping in to his classroom and willing to participate. He is very kind.
He is quite strict but manages to make you feel comfortable, and make learning ASL fun. He doesn't give finals, because he understands it doesn't teach us; it just stresses us out. He is very engaging and constantly tells jokes and stories. One class with him will boost your mood. He's confident, LGBT-friendly, and persistent.
Rick is the best ASL teacher I've had. Homework+Tests don't mean much AS LONG AS YOU LEARN AND IMPROVE! Rick is very welcoming+caring, and ASKS YOU TO MAKE MISTAKES as they are mandatory for learning a language. He has an amazing vibe and sense of humor. Whatever you may be taking his class for, you'll enjoy it. If I could, I'd rate him 10/5.
Rick is great at teaching ASL! I have taken ASL 121 and 122 with him so far and I cannot recommend him enough. He gives you a calendar at the beginning of the quarter that tells you when everything will be due and he sticks to it so you are never surprised. Attendance matters a lot though so make sure you can commit to attending 4 days a week.
Prof Mangan is a standout professor who cares deeply about his students' learning. He is engaging, kind, and tells the best stories! You will be asked to engage in outside ASL conversation for a minimum of 6 hours this quarter, but don't be put off by this - it's the best thing for learning!! In class you will play lots of games and it's great fun!
One of if not the best teachers I've had in a very long time. Genuinely cares about teaching you the language and helping you succeed. All you need to do is put the effort in and you're guaranteed to get an A and learn so much sign language
I absolutely love Rick as a professor, and I learned lots. He's a very funny and interesting guy. I took ASL 1&2 with Rick and met some great people. Make sure to get your culture contact hours-you will not be able to get an A without it. Also prepare yourself for group work and lots of one-on-one conversations. Not as scary as you would think.
Professor Mangan is a delight - he makes learning ASL fun with his engaging teaching style and great sense of humor. The outside ASL practice is super helpful, and tools like Unstuck study can be a game-changer for study prep. Highly recommend!
Rick made ASL fun, accessible, relatable, could not ask for a better professor. I took ASL 101 and 102 with him in 2017 and i came back this many years later just to leave a good review. He treated me with kindness during a hard time, and that will never be forgotten. You will not regret taking his classes!
he is an awesome human being, he is very thoughtful and understanding and wanting to help you and see you succeed in his class, truly an amazing individual and a one in a million professor
