Took History 8 telecourse with Professor Moniz. The class was not easy. He still passed me with a C.
His class is very hard. Study and you will do fine. I thought he was a good teacher, you just have to work hard in his class. His lectures are interesting and informative. Just pay attention.
You cannot breeze through his class-you need to do what you are told or you won't pass. I liked him even thouhg it was pretty difficult-I still managed with a C.

really easy...just listen and do the work.
Mr. Moniz method of teaching is very odd. There is a field trip required for this class, which I thought was fun. His lecture will not prepare you for his very difficult test. About 2-4 essays are due for the whole semester, which was fairly easy. Lastly,a presentation which you must do the research to get good grade.Provides enough extra credit..

He has an odd teaching style with lots of movies and field trips
He came in the middle of the semester because something happened to my other teacher, and I didn't like him. He's creapy looking, and you can't be late at all! I was 5 minutes late one day, and he took me outside of class and asked if this was going to be a problem. Rude.
He is very clear and does not test on dates which takes some of the stress out of the class. If you listen to the lecture, take notes and do the reading you will pass the class. Although different than your usual teacher he has his own style and it works for him. I think that he is a great teacher and if I have another history requirement I will be taking one of his classes.

I took his telecoarse class...he's not easy, but I enjoyed his lectures. You need to study, take notes, watch the video, do your essays and read! I did ok on his tests and ended up getting a B. I'm taking Hist 7 with him this Fall 06.
5 Week Telecourse met 1 hr & 50 min. ea. wk. Too much info. Ea. lecture covered 4 chapters. Had to watch 14 hrs. of PBS course, 1 movie & write 4-5 p. paper, read a 500 p. course book & a Narrative of Frederick Douglass & answer 15 questions in essay format. He will attempt to politically indoctrinate you to his biased views if you are not savv
This guy blew me away. At first seems very strict, he is just serious about teaching, and expects the same. Captivating lectures were filled with conviction and came to life, constantly relating to current events. Appealed to all learning styles. Diverse assignments. Oral presentations for auditory, field trips for kinesthetic, papers for visual.
lots of assignments, tests are hard.
Tests are HARD! too much to memorize, all his assg. that he gives are hard to do.
Moniz is funny. I took the telecourse. I don't recommend it. If you email this instructor you better put "URGENT" in the subject line or he won't answer your email. I hear this class is much easier in the online but there is more stuff to do. I got a B on the first test and I didn't even study but I did watch the videos. it's not easy.Only5meetings
Amazing teacher...he knows in depth everything he teaches, not just lecture out of the book...very passionate, not the easiest class but got me VERY interested in history...good sense of humor, way more flexible than he comes off as, class based on 3 tests, 3 papers, and a few quizzes. take this class in person, you'll get the most out of it!
Rick Moniz is an awesome teacher!
Can't really understand what he is saying when he lectures, he also goes off topic alot. From the class I didn't really learn anything interesting. Its the type of class where you remember it when you need it, then afterwards you forget.
Way too much work for a 3 unit GE class. Good lecurer, but didn't start covering material til halfway through the semester. Before that, he was trying to get us to study 3 time periods at once, so he wasted most of the classtime saying what we should be doing outside of class. Unless you love writing/don't like spare time, don't take his class!!
Great teacher.... Love the Discussions, Quizes, and essays.... I acually learned something on blackboard...
Great teacher, take this class if you value your education. If you plan on transferring to a four year college he prepares you. I received A's in both classes (History 7,8) and hot damn I actually learned something on blackboard.
Very Good Teacher. I took his online class and I learned a lot. great class for people who come to college to learn. He is the first Blackboard teacher that i actually learned something from, this is my 7th blackboard class so that should tell you something
He is a pretty easy going guy, but if you take his online class it is ALOT of reading and writing. Every assignment is an essay I swear!
he is a good teacher but he looks kinda scary (creepy) but just do the work which is easy and yo will pass.
A lot of work, but it's easy and from the book. I took the class online and it was a lot of postings and work.
took the online course in Spring 2007. Easy course, yes lots of essays and reading quizes are easy all are open book. Will take another class from him again
Great teacher...you must do all the reading and go to every class and you will pass! History is boring, but he makes the best of it.
good teacher but boring subject to teach
This guy is hilarious. Tough/strict teacher, but totally fun to be in his class. Tests are easy format (mult. choice, matching) but you have to REALLY know your subject. Includes essays and field trips.
Even though test are open book, once you move to next question you cannot go back and review your previous answers. Questions are sometimes abstract, although they are from the text book. I took the online class. If you e-mail him, it takes a long time for him to respond. He then will not answer your e-mail question but will put you down.
One of the best teachers I have EVER had in my life. Really cares about the students if THEY care about learning. Had the pleasure of having him in 7th and 8th grade and in college. Really fun teacher and lets you speak out your comments. Wants you to participate so he knows you're learning.
This is one of the worst teachers Ive had. Yeah he's cool and funny, but he is not very helpful. I took the telecourse for his7, and all he did was throw the test at us. The homework seemed easy but his damn test were so abstract. You better memorize the book word for word.
Horrible horrible teacher! Could possibly be the worst teacher ever! Do not take his class.
Highly unprofessional. Takes forever to grade, is very unhelpful and answers questions shortly, highly difficult tests (class avg 12/20), and sends out informal email notifications. I took his class online, studied, worked my butt off, did the extra credit - but to no avail. If you're a 4.0 type student, this class will kill your GPA.
I enjoyed his class very much. It was an on-line class and I loved it!! You have to do your part in order to get the grade that you want. Answered my questions/e-mails quickly and in a timely manner.
Good professor, great class if you have strong study skills, habits & time mgmt. If you are not, pick another professor. I worked really hard and read the textbook as assigned, got good grade.
It's a fun class! He gives extra credits. There are videos to watch and write about. Exams are average... If you studied, then you'll pass. FYI: He does not accept late comers.
Mr Moniz is an easy History teacher. His tests can be taken at home online but there is a time limit to it.Also,he gives a lot of extra credit points via reading books and writing reaction papers on the videos you watch.Aside from that, he also is a great teacher that he allows you become interested in subject.
Made a lot of mistakes on test, very bias on all areas of history. Can be very offensive at times. Takes a long time grading, does teach well but his organizing, views and how he teaches is a mess. Calls students out the blues for answers! he should be teaching at harvard not here like that. DO NOT! take him you've been warned.
Took this class online, this class is tough. Online tests require you to understand the material really well, they are not questions you can find the answer to from the book, you have to understand concepts explained in the book.
I took his online History class. Yes I will tell you it is a lot of work but if you put your time to do the work and really study the material then this class shouldn't be a problem. If you are a slacker well then good luck! You have one week to complete the exam he gives you and you can use your history book. If you have TIME then go for it! :)
Took his online class. His online format is completely disorganized; there is no rhyme or reason to his online classroom, and he requires a lot of substantial hard work which while I understand these requirements, he provides no guidance or support (even though he says he will). He seems absolutely disinterested in the success of his students.
He definitely knows his history, no doubt about that. However, he does not have the fuzziest personality. Try and take someone else of you can
Can be very unclear in his schedule of when things are due. Refers to some obscure due date which he only said or wrote once. Calls people out in unprofessional way. I have learned something about history though but I wouldnt take him or recommend taking him.
I love history and was genuinely excited to take this course. Professor is disorganized, confusing and unprofessional. Does not answer emails (despite saying its the best way to contact him) and his test question answers often contradict the reading. Assignments and due dates are confusing and vague. Avoid this professor.
Unprofessional, discourteous & unorganized. Dates are unclear & doesn’t update syllabus term to term. Assignments are easy, tests are unclear & diverge from text. Difficult to get response through email & if you do, he is rude. Don’t think he cares about students’ success. Offers no guidance or feedback whatsoever. He is an inferior professor.
Easy class not too much work but every week tests were hard! But I guess easy to pass..
way too unclear. He gives us pretty difficult tests week by week. And the work he has us do is pretty unclear. He doesn't prefer that we email him. I'm still in the middle of the course, so i will update later.
Instructor doesn't respond to emails but request this as the preferred method of contact. Quizzes answers aren't directly taken from the text of the book. They involve you to methodically think for 10mins or more each question to come to a conclusion that you might have a slim chance of getting it correct. If your looking to fail?Sign Up
This professor is difficult, i concour with the last response. I've taking challenging courses and did well, but he is all over the place with his class. Usually you get the information from your textbook for test, but he requires u to know the textbook word for word. And u may still get the ? wrong based on his.Wish I knew about this site earlier.
This teacher is awful. He has difficult tests that are according to the book, but you have to infer some things. Whenever he is emailed, he gives a mean, sassy response. I do not recommend him AT ALL. Run away!
His online class structure is contradicting, and the test are hard to understand. He basically paraphrase the "STANDARD" questions that is hard to comprehend. Not organized at all! caution!
This is not an easy class, but you get to watch a lot of cool documentaries and he's willing to help you if you ask for it. He acts like the book is important but I hardly touched it...all online and open book tests, lots of writing though so if you hate writing don't take it. I enjoyed him and his class overall.
I took his online class , and it was so confusing! and this is coming from a person that has plenty of experience with online courses! He assigns discussions weekly, so if you don't complete the assignments within that week, that's it! no chance of late submissions.
Mr. Moniz does not post grades regularly and his test questions are unclear and hard to understand. I strongly recommend taking any other class but his unless you would like to fail.
Mr. Moniz is a great instructor. If you do the work he assigns, you will get a good grade. Read the textbook on your own time...just make sure you read it. There was one novel to read; "In Dubious Battle." Unfortunately, the book bored many students, but you do need to write an essay about it so READ IT! And do all the other work too!
mr moniz is one of the great instructor I ever had. He was very clear, his abilities to explain the History was awesome. I totally loved his class. There is many chances of getting extra credit by doing extra work.
I really liked Professor Moniz during my semester, Fall 2014. Although, my class is online he seems like a great guy. I do have to say that I was really confused at first and that tests were really difficult for me. BUT, if you pay attention and dedicate time to this class, you will pass! But overall a good class, & books were interesting. :)
He is a very passionate about history! His tests are hard, but if you have the time to read the chapter twice you can get an easy A If you only read once you can still manage to get a decent grade if you do well on your essays and participate on the discussion board.
He is very unclear about everything.. His lecture note are vague and at the same time tests and quize are super hard..
Honestly, I am taking this online and it is one of the hardest classes I have ever taken in my life. His directions are extremely unclear, he's really unorganized, his test questions are not specific, lots of reading for every week, tests every week. Please take another class while you can.
I'm not sure why people are hating on Mr. Moniz. I personally like his teaching style. I took him in person before and online this semester. He does almost all the work on Blackboard, but you do need to read the textbook. Keep up with the weekly discussion boards and tests and it's a great class. Slack off, and you'll be hurting yourself.
It is a very challenging class. You have to read more than once each chapter in order to comprehend it better so you can get a good grade on your weekly test. No make up time. You have to keep up with assignments and it is a accelerated class. If you have a job, kids and more classes then I suggest not to take this class.
Good Teacher, Clear grading policy, Easy quizzes and papers. Tells you exactly what you need to know and what you need to do to pass the class.
I have nothing to say than Thank you !! He is the best history techer, the way he explains historical events is just awesome! I'm a person who used to hate history, but Mr. Moniz get me interested about this phenomenal subject! There was no history class day in which I wouldn't learn something new! Thank you Teacher!. You gotta work hard for that A
he sucks honestly do not take his class he does not care about his students and is super bring he also give a ton of homework
Avoid this professor at all costs. Summer class (34 days) and he is requiring us to read 804 pages, do 4 exams, 2 papers, and participate in discussion board questions weekly. The reading is INSANE! I have taken plenty of online classes, as well as summer classes and this has been by far the worst. AVOID!
Very clear and straightforward instructor. Definitely makes you work for the grade, but appreciates your efforts too. The quizzes are not so easy, and participation in DB is a must.
When you first get into the class, you will think OMG there is so much reading. But if you're smart enough, there is a way for an easy A. His test are online and you can use anything. You're allowed to use your book, the internet, whatever, but it's timed. We posted every week in the discussion board and was totally easy.
First off, how did this guy ever become a teacher? His test are unclear and can not spell anything correctly. His DB questions are vague and sometimes again, unclear. You do not receive a grade until the end of the class. So can not determine if your doing your assignments right. Recommend not taking his class.
Mr. Moniz has a great combination of lecture, documentaries, homework, and tests. Those combination keeps it from been boring. I love US history and this class did not let me down.
Simple, dont take his class, you can learn and have a better experience with another teacher who actually cares about your grade.
I took Professor Moniz Spring 2017 and plan to take him again Summer 2017. He is a wonderful teacher and not afraid to share his opinion. There are few questions in regards to his expectations, when things are due, or how you are graded. He explains everything in great detail. All you have to do is make sure you read his explanations thoroughly.
Easiest online class for general classes out of the way. Took his HIS7 and HIS 8 online classes. Buy a membership to biology forums and you'll A every online test. He gives plenty of time for his easy essays, and you do 1-2 discussion posts every week, no word minimum, no replies, FINALLY. GREAT CLASS, I'd take again if I had to. Don't buy book!
Took his online His7 class. Two discussion questions each week which are answered in paragraphs. One test a week. Must purchase/rent a book but can easily find answers to the tests all online. He responds to emails promptly, however his grading is very confusing. Easy A if you complete the work weekly and manage your time.
Discussion board questions are vague and wants essay length answers. 2 weekly discussion questions, weekly quiz and chapter readings. Requires us to watch some of his poorly made youtube videos for some assignments.
Professor Moniz is an easy going teacher. If you are looking to take a history class, for your IGETC requirements and are taking online classes, I recommend Moniz. Yes, the textbook is a prime source of your homework and other assignments, so please make sure to have that ready to go for class. His course is homework and test dependent.
He doesn't care about the student. He doesn't curve or give extra credit for those who need it. He seems very nice and kind when you message him. This online class consists of reading, two posts per week, videos, and quizzes. The videos are extremely boring and the quizzes don't make sense. Good luck!
So I have just finished his online history 7 class! I have taken any and all online class!! By far this was the hardest and worst online. The only this good is he responds to emails! His discussion were always unclear and test sometimes did not have to do with the book.
When he sends emails out he cannot even capitalize I, and sometimes no punctuation. But yet my discussions were given 2s and 3s.
My first online class and I was scared because it was History .I began taking the class very unsure if online was a good choice .Once the course began everything was easy to follow . Videos and lectures followed up by our responses was really easy to follow all throughout the course .
I took his online history 7 class and I loved it! Monez is a critical thinker, who is not afraid to speak his mind on the corruption in the politics. I learned so much from his lectures which indeed opened my mind. He truly teaches the REAL history!!! His class is test and discussion based, one question paper on Douglas, and one 5 page essay.
The grading is straight forward, do your work and you'll get credit. He does not make you post replies to other students but your discussion responses do need to be thoughtful so reading your chapters will help. Hes a great instructor and he made history enjoyable, I would definitely reccomend him !
Tough teacher, but he cares about the content of the course. He cares that his students are aware of what is going on in modern politics, and how it relates to the past. You must read the books in order to pass, but you will only walk away more knowledgeable. Wish all teachers had his diligence.
This professor is 5 star! His course provides information at level of understanding. His expectations are perfect for college students! The work is challenging but also rewarding! The knowledge/materials he provides is amazing! As long as you are doing your work checking in frequently you will pass with any grade that YOU work for! I love history.
Professor Rick Moniz will reply back to you emails when taking his online history 7 class. The syllabus and calendar are very clear on what assignments are due and when. You will have to read 1-2 chapters, do 1-2 chapter quizzes and a discussion post weekly. He takes the discussion post very serious. 2 essays also. I really enjoyed the class.
I don't know if the high ratings are credible. The professor replies fast to emails, but that's about it. Grading criteria is quite unclear. All files/replies have at least one spelling or grammatical error. His Canvas for the course is a little messy. It could be improved a lot.
His canvas syllabus is sooo messy and incomplete. I had so many questions that were not even stated in the syllabus. Not to mention, his canvas modules are so confusing and not organized or structured at all. He submits chapter reviews and doesn't even state which book from! Overall, he is kind but clearly unorganized.
I'm confused, right after we start the courses, I can not find support material for chapter quiz, None, I have to look up AP USH textbook in order to pass the quiz (it is funny that in the "required reading material" section, both of the material are MLK's book and none of them are related to US history after reconstruction.
I really liked this class, the professor made it enjoyable for someone who is not the biggest fan of history. I like how he provided pictures of himself at major monuments that related to what we were learning. Super inspirational! I thought the syllabus and grading criteria was clear, if you are confused just message him, he replies fast!
Don't take this class. He has no sympathy for students and he is not considerate at all. He's grading criteria is so vague and he is fickle minded and will play your grades by ear even if you try hard. I think he forgets that everyone are not history majors. He is horrible at assisting you with learning content. In fact he doesn't actually teach.
Minimal effort needed for a good grade, but do complete everything you're supposed to. That said, this prof's grammar is horrid when giving weekly directions and material instructions. I can't take him seriously. His commentary on Canvas lecture postings are laughably juvenile in nature and HEAVILY hint at opinionated biases. The one pro: easy A.
Prof Moniz is definitely one of the most competent professors at Chabot. He is passionate about history and his lectures are amazing. His syllabus is pretty straightforward and he lets you take any 10 quizzes, open book, no final test. He does require you to write papers, read, but his grades are fair and he always gives his feedback. Great prof!
His class is confused and either his grading. If he not wanting his student to take the test and just crossed it out. He let his student take those test and after awhile crossed it out to 0 even u got full grade. For other writing assignment his grading is so hard too. No matter how you write you never got the grade that you expected.
Just assigned more chapters to read rather than teaching students the lecture.
Honestly, this is by far the worst professor I've gotten. He gives minimal effort when it comes to teaching, or should I say literally 0 effort. Everything is done online. He grades harshly on discussions without giving you a clear example of what you need to do. Comments such as "needs to elaborate more" The dude sounds like a single uncle.
Awful. Only assigned chapters in the textbook but never gave explanation on them.
