Fresh from wall street. Expect a song and dance & write down his classic lines.
Good prof. Needs an update on the trends.

Nason is the man.
Got better as course went on; very good ; prepares you well for exams
Rick is definetly the man. Finance like you've never seen it -- fake puking, sporadic screaming, cold calling, accountant basing SOB!

Easily, the most interesting professor I have ever had. If you can get into one of his classes do so.
Great Professor, applies real world scenarios. Makes everything interesting!
Best professor I've ever had. Full of energy, kept class interested. He's the reason I'm majoring in Finance.
great guy
Great Prof...keep up the good work
a great guy! I've learned a lot from him.
Hilarious. I have not been amused by airborne chalk as much as in this guys class. Nobody can compare to Rick Nason, he is helpful, Clear, and although isn't the easiest professor, he knows how to make sure that everyone learns what they should be learning, that is, the material. This guy is great.
Best professor at Dal. He has helped me develop both academically and professionally, and always has time listen and give advice.

I can only describe him by the following "He is the BEST".
Energetic, knowledgeable, cares about the material and students, has the experience to back up opinions
There's a reason Rick has won 'professor of the year' EVERY YEAR since he's been at Dal: He's the best. He expects a lot and pushes every one of his students to their full potential. He puts up with no **** and (most) people love him for it. I hope everyone at Dal appreciates how lucky we are to have a guy like Rick on staff.
Nason is THE MAN!!!! The guy seems a little crazy at first (fake screaming, snoring, barf noises) but he keeps you totally awake and into the material. The classes I took with him were the most entertaining and useful bits of information I got in my entire MBA. I loved his classes disguised as comedy routines!
Honestly the worst professor I have had to deal with out of my university career. He doesnt have a shred of compassion and speaks to his students like they are lesser than him. Everybody I ask thinks he comes on here and rates himself - awful, awful teacher.
He clearly knows what he's talking about, but he is VERY condescending and does not appear to have much respect for MGMT students. He pretty much told our class that we chose MGMT over Commerce because the requirements were easier. On that basis alone, I consider him to be my least favourite proff to date.
Professor Nason is both a highly respected professional and a great prof. His jokes made the material made 3hr lectures much easier. If he see's you are making an effort he will make an effort back. Students dislike him because they don't make an effort and blame their poor performance on his teaching when really its their own fault.
He is useless as an online prof. Makes students who ask questions feel dumb and is really inaccessible, instructions for assignments are insanely vague. They should get rid of guys like him
Helpful and fair prof.
He is the worst professor in Dal, I believe.
This guy is the man, a top notch finance professional. If you're keen on finance, don't miss the opportunity to take his class. He literally changed the course of my life. Probably not the best prof to have if you're there to mess around. Among the more interested students, he's known as the best.
I had initially taken this class online, and failed horribly. Not great at teaching in an online setting. I ended up retaking the class (not online, though) and I now consider him the best prof I have ever had. He has single handedly inspired me to pursue a career in finance. Don't take his class online, you'll miss out on his excellent lectures.
One of the smartest profs I have had yet. He teaches very clearly, and has a ton of knowledge to instill.
Didn't like finance going into the class, don't like finance coming out of it. It's a tough class and the lectures are boring and long for someone who would rather be elsewhere. However! Rick is a great prof. Very knowledgeable. He posts recorded lectures and videos explaining the material online, which I found very helpful.
If you can stay focused as he bounces around the podium with his ridiculous bow-ties, you will learn quite a bit.
Do not take his class
He is one of the best professors ever taught me. He takes time to explain in detail if students are not able to understand. He cracks jokes to keep the class alive.
He turns back assignments late and does give extra credit. He jumps from one subject to the next.
Students who care about academic outcomes should avoid this class at all costs. Disorganized professor. 80% final exam is absolutely brutal. This is a summer course. You do not have the benefit of being in a real classroom listening to your prof everyday for three months. Dal students be warned. Take this course and your GPA will suffer.
Avoid taking this course with this prof at all costs. The hardest course I've ever taken and would highly recommend taking it online in the summer. He gets extremely off topic and just acts as if all students are as smart as him and know what he's talking about. Would highly NOT recommend this prof or course.
MGMT 3201 is probably the hardest course in Management, however, Rick Nason makes it easier for the students to find extra practice and learn the course. The lectures are long but useful, and Rick interacts with the students to make sure they are understanding the content. He is a likeable, helpful, and smart professor!
The absolute worst prof. Never in my life have I received a grade below an A, yet I'm on the verge of failing this class. Myself and other students are disappointed, as we do not feel our grade accurately represents our knowledge. Avoid this professor at all costs. I pray for future students who take this course and for whoever let this guy teach.
This guy sucks AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Hes rude, doesn't care about students, terrible at explaining things, no wonder failure rates in this course the highest in all of management.
If I could rate Rick lower I would. He should have never become a prof.
what a joke
Rick Nason has to be one of the worst profs I have ever had. The assignments do not help you for the final at all. He is very rude to communicate with and just assumes that the high failure rate of the course is because of the difficulty of the course and not his teaching. This course would be a breeze if it was taught by someone who cared. Avoid
Very smart, knows his stuff but has an ego. You don't learn much from lectures as Nason spends most of class jumping from content, to jokes, to making students feel uncomfortable. You can learn most of the core content from his online videos, but he will test details from class. Know that he will bring his best "finance bro" persona each class.
Tries to lift himself up by putting down his students. Expect baseless and immoral rants from your typical 90s Wall Street guy who isnt happy with 21st century progressivism. He justifies everything by in the real world with the assumption that graduate students with prior business experience have no idea how the world works. Hes a goof.
Really enjoyed professor Nason. I typically do not like finance but he made the course fun to go to and engaging. He is a hard marker but if you do the work you wont have an issue.
This professor will have an 80% final with subjective questions with no correct answer for a quantitative course. Do believe the reviews, avoid him if you care about your gpa. He really doesnt care about you.
Rick is a large personality who can be quite critical, yet there is a method to his teaching style. He teaches as if his classroom is in a real-world setting, and hence gets a lot of backlash for calling on students and giving hard tests. If you value the meaning behind teaching, however, you will really enjoy his class, as I did. Fav prof so far!
Discouraging prof who does not provide the means to succeed in this course.
Probably the worst teacher I have ever had, has not answered a single persons question on semester just tell us to find it out ourselves somewhere else. His feed back on all my assignments was "look at notes from class" instead of giving any actual helpful feedback.
Professor is terrible, no help as he only give advice of review slides and doest say what you did wrong on assignments other than a 3 word sentence
Rick probably has the most engaging lectures at Dalhousie. Usually, I am bored at lectures but Rick's lectures are thought provoking. Rick is also fair, accommodating and offers extra credit. Tough grader but you will do well if you go above and beyond what is asked. Only problem with Rick is the lack of examples and material relevant to content.
This is a HARD class and Rick does not go easy on anyone; you seriously have to earn the grade you get. The final exam used to be worth 80% of your grade, now it is worth 60%. He leaves students to figure things out on their own, so don't bother with silly questions. The only complaint I have is that he is a bit disorganized (especially with dates)
Honestly not as bad as people say. He is not perfect, and you need to go to class to understand what is going on. I wish he would post assignment instructions more clearly, we constantly scramble to understand what he wants out of us. He is a fair person and is knowledgable but you must go to pretty much every single class in order to succeed.
Dr. Nason is not for everybody. His ability to lecture made his classes not only interesting, but enjoyable as well. Go to class, listen to what he has to say, take a few notes and you will succeed.
Dr. Nason has a reputation for being hard but I think it's unfair. His lectures were so engaging and filled with real-life examples, funny stories and just pure entertainment. The assignments (worth 20%) were graded difficulty but both the exams (together worth 60%) were extremely fair bordering easy. Overall, take his class - it was my favourite.
he gets a really hard rep, but he is genuinely one of the best professors I have had at Dal. I hate math and numbers and accounting and finance 1, but I loved this course. I highly recommend going to talk to him, and going to office hours.
Dr. Nason is one of the best finance prof's at Dalhousie. Dismiss his reviews as from taking near 3 courses with him all I have learned is the ones to complain are the ones who show little passion for such topics. As a student in Finance I see his eagerness to teach real world examples. 10/10 prof, but be sure to go the extra mile for a A.
It's simple. You can see there is clear a 50/50 split on these reviews either A) applauding rick with flying colors or B) those who hated the mans guts. Group A) Shows up to class, asks questions, puts in an extra 1% of effort Group B) Asks "Will this be on the exam" or "do we need to attend class" Just show some passion for wanting to be there.
This professor is bad. The median grade for my class comm2203 is c, which I believe 1/3 students failed this course. Rick never post any slides for the lecture, if you missed one class, you are lost. And no matter what you asked him in the discussion board, he ask you the same question.
tries to befuddle his students. Someone pointed out that he was a self proclaimed "wall Street" guy. I was looking at his resume with a person that actually worked on the street, because I was a bit puzzled at his arrogance. They said if someone worked at Citi in "Training" that means they worked in "HR", but couldn't rise past the ranks in HR
No lecture slides or recordings, never updates the Brightspace, unclear about due dates. Rude and unhelpful, good luck if you have this professor.
You could say a lot
Genuinely one of the best professors I've had. Lecture heavy, and you'll fall behind if you miss the lectures, but if you put in effort, and go the extra mile, you are set. Extremely helpful prof, adds personal touches to lectures, and simplifies difficult topics.
The only reason why is 4, is because he doesn't post the lectures or explain problems very well. He only posts the answers and not how to solve them and there's not much material to learn besides what's in class, and if there's is all very messy and not well organized. Overall, he is a good professor, you just gotta put 100% so he does thesame foru
do you want to fail? take this prof. the course itself wasn't even bad. Couldve done way better. No lectures or notes were posted, and is unclear about the final. Explains in class if you want him to repeat a question ill give him that. Sometimes disregards questions posted in the discussion post or tells other students to figure it out themselves.
Attend every lecture and write everything down- even if it seems like an off hand comment. It is worth your time to seek extra help and ask him questions. Show interest in the course material, do the work, take good notes, and read what he suggests you read.
Everyone tweaking over this class—too much glazing from the front row nerds... move on, u have no life. For the rest of y'all, I gave 0 f's and got an A. Never went to class, no notes. Did most assignments, practiced, got the big pic. Coulda had an A+ if I did all the assignments, they're easy af. If u get it, its chill. Drop a like if u a real one
Not a good prof, doesn't care about students
He is too busy talking about his experience at Ivey and all of his accomplishments that he is so desperate to get recognition for that he fails to effectively teach students. He does not provide feedback for assignments at all. Huge ego and is extremely obnoxious, please do everyone a favour and retire already.
The guy cares about us as students, I apologize if you can't see that, but it's evidently true. Go to class, he conducts his lectures with joy, clarity, and examples that will allow you to genuinely understand and be able to apply the concepts. If you don't know what effort is, if you can't take accountability, you're not failing because of Rick.
He is so mean.
He's so mean to students.
He is so mean to students.
Very disrespectful to student, not responsible at all, if you have the option, don't take course from him, if you don't have option, then good luck
He's honestly quite difficult and the fail rate is very high. I recommend not taking this professor's class.
I will never recommend rick nason, One of the worst professor I have ever seen!
If you want to get assignments with minimal to no guidelines, midterms, and finals worth 80% collectively of your grade, a corrupt marking scheme, and lectures where half the time is spent with him talking about himself or something he finds funny. This is the class for you.
Finance 2? More like “Storytime with Me and My Wife.” About a third of class is finance, the rest is personal anecdotes. No guidelines, no rubrics, and an ego bigger than the syllabus. Exams barely connect to lectures. Come for finance, leave with vacation stories you didn't ask for.
Rick gets a lot of hate and it is honestly super unwarranted. Yes he is harsh, yes his assignments are ambiguous, yes you will have to go to class and pay attention if you want to succeed. But his exams are extremely fair, and honestly are a walk in the park if you go to class. If you are willing to try, he is the best prof in commerce.
I do not have enough bad things to say. His classes are near impossible to pass. Lectures are a waste of time, derailed by personal stories with no structure, and he often embarrasses students who ask questions. Assignments worth < 3% take days to complete. The workload feels like a full-time job and the fail/drop rate is extremely high. Stay away.
From failing Finance 1 going into finance 2 I did not like rick, but as the summer progressed, and I actually went to class and paid attention the guy is actually a good prof. Yea his assignments were annoying with no rubric but if you went to class he basically explains the assignment there. final was super easy and he got rid of your worst grade
he literally finds joy in ruining peoples lives. prides himself in teaching courses everyone fails. cant explain concepts for his life. literally dont take this course unless you hate yourself. he must hate himself if this is how he treats his students.
zero guidelines given for assignments, extremely unclear, no rubrics provided. Doesn't even teach properly, just talks about his wife. Very very mean to his students and finds joy in embarrassing people in class it seems like.
Worst experience of my life. don't take his class unless you enjoy being bullied by your own teacher. calls people out in class purposely to embarrass them. bad at explaining course concepts. very very very mean.
microagressions all semester... this prof is extremely racist. not the first person who experienced this/: if you can avoid it dont take his class.
tell me why I know more about this mans wife than I do about the actual class content.. like stop wasting our time and just teach???? just old and useless this man should retire. clearly doesn't care about the students also or if they learn anything
definitely my favourite experience at Dalhousie thus far. Just put in the work and you'll get a good grade. 10/10 would recommend.
This professor is not worthy to take! He just brag about him in every mminute of the class does not teach, He challenges the student so that they can clearly fail, definitely bad professor in dalhousie!
