excellent teaacher
Amazing lecturer. One of the best teachers I have ever had at Eastern. I loved his religion class! His tests are very hard and the class requires a lot of reading but it is worth it.
Very hard exams, but gives great lectures. Be prepared to memorize! If you're struggling, ask for help. He'll be glad to give you a hand.
An amazing teacher with asuch a clear and unbiased understanding of the material... My favorite class of all time was comparitive religion.
Great Professor!! really knows his stuff!!!
He is a very kind man. He have interesting lectures. He have very long test and requires a lot of remembering.
He is by far the best teacher I have ever had and I still remember how wonderful his class was and that was about 7 years ago? He even wrote me a recommendation for employment a full year after I had his class.
I was weary about taking Religion, but learned the most in this class. He goes fast, but gives access to all his powerpoints so you have all the notes. Very passionate about what he's teaching. Tests long but easy if you keep up on reading and notes
easy class...not my fav prof
Loved this class. Great Prof. Tests were long, but I thought they were very easy since I kept up on the reading and thought all of the topics very interesting. One of very few classes where I actually read the book. He brings in religious artifacts too
A professor who understands what it is like to be a student. Challenging exams, although delivered fairly and without trickery. Amazing lectures that engage the intellect long after the semester closes. In addition to the material, Prof Rogers also taug
I don't really agree with everyone else. I think his class is tough, and the study guide is ridiculous. Too many terms and not specific about what to know on them. The Final was easy, but I strugged to pull off a B.
DO NOT miss a class...attendence IS taken every class, and graded. Notes go fast. Buy the coursepack, no need for the book.(a few test questions are taken from the book, but I never read it, and still passed) Good, unbiased class
Very easy to understand! A must take for anyone who has any interest in learning different religions and customs. Great guy, very approachable. The multi-media approach to the course is very helpful for many kinds of learners.
He is an awsome professor. If you go to class and pay attention youll do fine. He is everyhting a proffesor is suppose to be.
i learned A LOT in this course. very unbiased with his lectures, which is a nice change, and not confusing at all. the study guide and exams are almost too easy as long as you study.
Great teacher. Take his class. Keeps you interested. Uses tons of visual aids. Gives good study guides. Fun guy.
awesome teacher, best ive had yet. great visuals and great at keeping ones attention. highly recommend!

He isn't baised at all, I heard horror stories about the other professors here who teach HIST 100. We will learn alot.
Amazinnng professor!!! He is sooo open with all the religions!! Tests are pretty easy as long as study your notes a lil. He knows how to keep you awake!!
he's not very helpful and his lectures and become boring towards the end. but i guess he's not the worst out there.
His lectures are very intressting and his tests are all set up the same. Sometimes the tests can be very hard, because of the wording of the questions. Show up to class and you should be fine.
Interesting class, gets a little boring in the middle. When you buy the notebook that he has for you to take notes in - only use as a reference, notes are so hard to fit in those little spaces! Make sure you read the chapter and come to class for extra bonus points - definatly reccommend, though.
Dr. Rogers is one of the best professors I have encountered at EMU. This class is for those willing to think. He handles the issues of the origins of Christianity, Islam and Judaism in a very informative way. It will make you rethink your views on the world today. He gives daily quizes that prepare you for exams. Highly remmond this one.
Professor Rogers has made my college experience. I have learned so much from the material we have covered. His style of teaching is warm and open which allows all questions to be answered with no embarrasment. He knows his subject material very well and always has a good answers to the hard questions. Let this man teach you. It's worth it!
For a more informal class, take it in the Spring or Summer--tests are short answer/essay. Fall/Winter tests are objective/matching, etc. All questions/terms are in the study guide. Knows subject--ongoing scholarly study. Treats all religions with respect. Tries very hard not to offend. Get stuff from his website.
TAKE THIS CLASS!!! Easy A if you are actually intrested in the subject. This was honestly my favorite class at Eastern! He is very open minded and will talk about religions in a whole new light and teaches you that the media is all BS :)
He tells you to use the course pack but when you're taking notes its out of order. I went to prochial schools for k-12 but i got a C on the christianity section. He tells the history HIS way, not necessarily the correct way. Go to class, he says random things that show up on the exam but are not in the book.
This course was VERY interesting. His tests may appear difficult at first, but after you take the first one, you know how to study for all the rest. As long as you actually take notes and study, you should do well. DONT miss class.
I love him! He is so knowledgeable about all he talks about, I never miss class, which you can't do if you want to do well! Grades are completely based on the tests, which you have to take good notes for!

He's a good teacher, kind of funny. It's a lecture style class, and even though he doesn't take attendence, you should go to class because he teaches stuff that isn't in the book. If you go to the classes, take notes, and look at them before the exams, you'll pretty much get an A.
One of EMU's best, if not thee best...
AMAZING professor. All you have to do is take notes and skim the chapters (I hardly ever read them and I'm getting an A) and you will do well. Very interesting lectures, definitely my favorite class.
Professor Rogers is the BEST professor I've had at EMU so far. His lectures are amazing and engaging. Attendence is necessary because the tests are mostly based on the lectures, but you won't mind sitting through it. Take a class with Rick Rogers!
Take this class! Dr. Rogers has a passion for both history and religion and a gift for sharing that is infectious! He is a good and solid teacher that wants you to succeed. I hated history until I took this class and now realize how much I have to catch up on! The music was a nice treat and the prof will make you think! Listen and learn!
Simply amazing. Professor Rogers is very passionate about his subject, and his lectures are informative and interesting. He truly cares about students and wants them to succeed. Come to class and do a bit of studying, and you will do well. My favorite professor and class so far!
Don't expect to get A's on the exams. There incredibly difficult even though you been to every class. It's just tricky.
What a tool. Very hard, near impossible essay tests for a 100-level class. Are you kidding me? Mr. Rogers will bore you to death.
He is the best professore you could ever take a class with.
He is the best teacher I ever had.
Rogers is an incredible teacher! He honestly wants you to do good. Make sure you buy the workbook b/c it gives you all the info you need as long as you fill in the blanks. For sure take him if you have the chance!
Awesome and passionate about what he teaches. Amazing class would recommend Rogers to anyone. You have to put effort into this class, but the information is interesting and he offers a substantial amount of extra credit.
Had Comparative Study of Religion and absolutely loved it. Class was very interesting and will find ways to engage you that are different from others. Easygoing and provides an environment where you feel like you're actually learning something. Organized and accurately follows syllabus as well. All you have to do is read the material for an A.
He is extremely knowledgeable and interesting. He forces you to broaden your mind and encompass new ideas.
Interesting class. I wouldn't take it if you have trouble making it to class. Everything on the test comes from the lecture. You don't need to buy the textbook. It was a lot of work, but he was a great teacher. He was entergetic in class. If you do take this class, make sure you study a lot for the Christianity test, it was by far the hardest!!
I loved this class and this professor was great! You could tell that he enjoyed what he was teaching. He also had a very effective way of presenting material.
This guy is absolutely amazing. If you want to do good in the class, attend the lectures!! He puts all lectures in podcasts so you can make up what you missed. He's super helpful, and wants to see you succeed. In a class all about personal opinion he is great at being unbiased. I loved this class!!!
HIST 302: Absolutely LOVED this course. One of my favorites...by far! He is helpful inside and outside of the classroom and always encourages students to get involved and express themselves comfortably. Very fun class...would recommend it to anyone interested in Religion and ready to learn more!
I was very excited to be in this class that I really didnt have a clue about any of the material. He taught me quite a bit about things that I didn't think I had an interest in or would effect how I view the world. Thank you for schooling an old girl.
+++HIGHLY RECOMMEND him and class! I continued on to HIST302 with him just for FUN...not required! For Hist100 podcast's and study guide are great study tools. Don't bother with book for 100 class if you take great notes in study guide. LOTS of reading for 302 but found it interesting and had great classroom discussions.
I thought this class was interesting, and all of the tests are at home open book so they weren't too hard, but he's a unclear about what he wants in the essay, but he does try to help. You don't really have to go if you don't want to, his lectures are almost word for word his book, and he has podcasts to download. Overall I liked him.
Comparative Study of Religion online class. If you are busy this is not the class for you. Requires alot of reading but, has Podcast for you to listen too. Class much to demanding I don't think he considers you may be taking a full load/working or a returning older student with responsibilities. Class is very interesting just DEMANDING.
It doesn't get any easier than this, seriously. In my 4 years at EMU I don't think I've ever had a prof that makes it this easy to get a good grade. All his lectures are on Podcasts, tests are open-book at home, and he's really interesting and nice.
Rick Rogers is a very interesting and intelligent professor. I highly recommend any class he teaches. The essay portion of the exam is very important.
Great professor with interesting subject matter.
I was really excited to take this class before it started. Once I got into the class (online) it was a struggle to stay interested. He was not clear on what kind of posts he wanted until after the midterm. I emailed after the 2nd session and never got a response from the GA or the prof re: what was required. Probably best to take in person.
I took this class online and we had new discussions on the reading about every three days, but for the majority of the semester he was very vague about what was required. He eventually got more specific, but by that point we only had a few discussions left. I feel that my grade would have been higher if I knew what was expected of me right away.
Attendance NOT mandatory. He wrote a condensed version of the religious histories ($56) in a bounded book. Exams are online and open-book (3-day window). He's a very intelligent and funny man! It's an EASY class. I hardly put in the effort and ended up w a 3.7! If you do bad, then it's your own FAULT! He's crystal clear &helpful! Highly recommend
I took this class online. For the most part it was easy. Not much time went into it at all. But for his exams I felt they were harder than they needed to be. Some of the questions were impossible to get right. I felt as if you had to read between the text in order to understand some of the exam questions. Not the most straight forward teacher.
The online course is excellent. Lots of opportunity to discuss how we as student feel about what is going on in today's world. He is a one of the best professors I've had at EMU.
A very good teacher. He wrote the book that we use! The information used in class is interesting and the class itself is very easy as long as you read the chapters and submit the work on time.
I was excited before and now as we reach the end of semester I found his lectures so borings but because all classes count in your great u can't even miss one! take it online since he is just repeating his own book and exams are tricky so read it but it is an easy A for Gen ed! he lectures as if everyone in the class is christian and I don't like.
This class is CAKE! I would recommend taking it online. The material is laid out very easy! Lessons then exam, lessons then exam! Simple! The class itself is extremely easy and wouldn't be hard to get an A! I would recommend him!
Easy class, tests are WAY too hard. They take 2 hrs of your time and even if you prepared they will stress you out. If you only care about getting a B then this class is fine, but if you're like me and want that 4.0 it will drive you nuts. Not to mention you need a 95% to get an A, not your traditional 90%. EASY work, HARD tests (except the first)
The material is not hard. What is hard is keeping it all organized & straight for exams. Here's what I did to get an A. Ditch the KIs (too vague). Instead write down every term/concept in WORD Table with definition & the page number it's located at in text. Then put in alpha order for easy access. Study that, review podcasts & you will get all As.
This class is a lot of work a 100 level. Class is mandatory, and it is part of your grade. Don't take him if you don't come to class because you will probably fail. Tests are complicated, but you can find all of the answers easily in the textbook. Nice guy and very understanding.
This teacher is one if best teachers I've had at emu. He's extremely clear and very helpful. I recommend this teacher to everyone it's a easy history credit. I plan on taking another class with him as the professor.
Very easy online class. Provides a free book, which he wrote himself
Comp Rel online. Class only has 5 online exams. Offers xtra credit but hard to find time to do. Recommend taking great notes for exams. Exams have lots of term matching, so important to have your terms notes organized. No book to buy - prof wrote book & provides it online. Recommend. Also has lectures on tape, but I'd rather read text.
I love Prof. Rogers. He is very funny and loves to have a good time. I had his HIST 202 Religions in Conflict class and there were no exams. We had to read 20 page articles twice a week for his class and listen to hour and a half lectures once a week that were online that counted. Get ready for some critical thinking.
The online video reviews were the best part
Probably the worst and boring class ever. Every class was a long lecture with no activities to help you learn better. I enjoyed the class but just didn't get enough out of it because of the boring lectures
Grade is based off of 5 tests. If you take them early you could get some bonus points. Make sure you do the reading before taking the test. He provides the book online.
Was way too hard for a 100 level course. Tests took almost 3 hours to complete each and were very difficult. Final grade based solely off of 5 tests. Offered extra credit... then weighted it in the gradebook so they weren't worth as much. Be prepared to work for a good grade.
he wrote the book. read the 5 chapters, take the 5 tests. Thats it. Thats all you do for the class. take the test earlier than the required date and get extra credit. If you wanna go through a lot of work you can get 1 extra credit point per test by going to a service, of his choosing, for each religion and write a 100 word paper on it.
History 100 class is vary straight forward. There is 5 test and if you take them early then you have a chance to receive extra credit. You need to read his book that he assigns to in order to get the grade you want. I received an A but also worked vary hard for it. There are not many shortcuts while taking this class trust me I tried. Just read!!
There were five exams total. If you take them early you get extra credit. He wrote his own book so googling the questions will not be helpful, you will have to read the book. He does give additional extra credit opportunities with each religion that is discussed. You definitely have to put in some time and effort if you want to get an A.
Loved this comparative religion course. Lots of reading is required along with attending class to write a graded response after every class. However, he makes it very interesting and makes what needs to be done very clear. Wrote the textbook himself so it directly lines up with his lecture. Online tests, can be difficult but easy A if you read!
Rick is a great professor. The class has 5 major exams, and that is it. He also wrote the textbook himself, which you truly do not even have to read. If you spotlight search keywords from the questions and google some, the tests are super easy. Also get extra credit for taking exams early!Low maintenance, easy class to take with a heavy course load
Dr. Rogers taught a wide variety of students in this class yet was able to present interesting lectures with a great degree of class involvement, thus, motivating the students to want to learn. He was thorough presenting both sides of complex issues. He is the type of professor every student should have. He knows history in great depth.
Professor Rogers is such a caring professor. He always makes sure to remind his students when tests are due. He has many extra credit opportunities and encourages students to do them, since an A in his class is a 96% instead of the standard 94%. He gives 2 hrs for the online tests, and no homework. So your grade is based off tests and EC.
Took this online and he is very caring. I love his extra credit opportunities! Do them and you will get an A! It's actually very fun to go to a church/synagogue or temple for each religion as extra credit. Totally new experience.
Rick was a good professor. Tests are online and super easy. If you pay attention in class and have the book you will be just fine. EASY A
Good choice for a class you only need credits for. Interesting material. No homework. There was just like 5 exams on each chapter. Exams do have a lot of questions. I would not go into an exam without having at least listened to the online lecturers. Can search textbook for answers but search function does not always work the greatest. Super easy.
The text book you use is a book that he wrote himself and its only offered online. There are only 5 exams and he gives you 20 days per unit to learn the material, do extra credit, and take the exam. His text book can tend to me all over the place and unorganized. Otherwise Id say take the class, no way you cant pass.
The textbook is a book written by him. The only grades are one exam per unit which are very easy as long as you have read through the book and studied. I'm not fully through the class but I have not received lower than a 95% on any test. He does offer extra credit for taking tests early along with other extra credit for each unit.
Had Professor for History 334, fall 2017. Very professional, but personable at the same time. His expertise is noted, and he is very easy to follow. He grades a little strictly but not badly, and he is approachable both after class and during office hours. I really liked his class, found him both happy and engaged with teaching for the semester.
This class is based off of 5 exams and nothing else. You are required to buy the online textbook and if you don't read it and take notes, good luck getting a good grade. There is extra credit offered but it's a 1,000 word essay for only 1 point.
I loved showing up to Prof. Rogers' class every day. He was funny, he cares about his students, and it really shows how much passion he has for the subject matter. I loved this class so much I signed up to take another class with him next semester. I would recommend him to anyone!
He is very passionate about the subject, knows a lot of information, and is happy to answer questions. Exams are difficult. Study hard!
I really enjoyed this class online. If not online I think it would have been quite a bit harder. Is very test heavy but if you actually follow the study guides he gives you and read the book you'll be fine.
Gives a short writing assignment every class period, and his grading can be a bit tough. He answers questions and goes in depth about every topic. I've learned so much in his class, and all tests are online (open note, open book). If you pay attention, take notes, and show up to every class you will have no problem succeeding.
You definitely do not want to miss class, as there are assignments during each class period. Mr. Rogers is very passionate about what he teaches. He is extremely accessible and even gives you his personal cell phone number where you can reach him at any time!
This class was made up of 5 exams and there's an online book that's used to take notes for the exams. If you read, you'll do just fine! He also provides the audio lectures on canvas which really helps!
