Awesome guy, wil help you with anything...my favorite professor at Bryant!!
Wish I'd had him more than once
No Comments
A very kind and brilliant professor. He will offer to help you with your math at anytime, anywhere and will also offer his advice on other topics if you ask him. A smart guy who knows how to teach. Constantly improving himself, an admirable trait.
THIS PROFESSOR IS CONFUSING AS ALL HECK! That is, until you visit his office hours, then he's helpful as all heck. He'll even let you look at other textbooks if the assigned one gets too confusing. BOTTOM LINE: If ever confused, visit his office hours.
I hear different for other classes, but for stats, he has no clue. he's too busy making up beer problems to be straight forward. confusing!!!
Very helpful, knows his stuff. It would be the students fault if they failed the exam. Definately willing to help the student get that A in class.
Brilliant Professor and really nice guy. Will go to great lengths to help out students. He even came to our suite to hold a casual pre-test study group for about 8 of us in the class
Professor Smith is a good guy. Knows his stuff. Tests are fair, but he gives you last year's exam and holds a study session the day before the exam. Recommended.
Awesome, knows his stuff!!
Very helpful, and great!
Great professor. Really easy. Will go out of his way to help out the students. If you are considering a STATS minor, take as much as possible.
This guy is great, he is easy and very enthusiastic. Although I think he may have ADHD or something, he is VERY hyper. He makes math interesting...
To do well in statistics you need to understand the wording in a problem. Statistics is 80% wording and what to do with it, and 20% understanding the formulas being used. Professor Smith’s lecture covers 90% formulas and hardly any wording. Of course t
such a good teacher. loves to teach and helps his students alot. recommended
Possibly one of the best and most dedicated professors at Bryant. Will stay until all hours of the night to help his students. GREAT guy, definitely take any of his classes.
Excellent math professor. Real great guy! Tests arent hard and he is ALWAYS willing to help students. Def recommended!
Looking at the other comments, I want to clarify that "easy" means "he makes statistics easy". I aced the class, but I also learned a LOT about statistics.
The friendliest professor i have ever had. He cares about the students so much. And if u pay attention in class and study, he makes math easy and fun. Def take him if you are willing to work a bit for ur A
I hate math of any kind but this class was by far my favorite class ever and the one I learn the most in! he made me want to be a better math student! so dedicated and willing to help and excited about math he goes the extra mile for students! my favorite professor! ICE COLD NO WEAKNESSES!!
Took Smith for two classes and did well in both. Smith is an awesome teacher who lays everything out for you even whats gona be on the tests. Very passionate about his work and is willing to go to whatever means to make sure his students understand the material. Take him any chance you have.
The man is incredible. Has two review sessions for each class for exams. Gives homework sheets and the answers and lots of other handouts that help a lot. Always willing to help students and incredibly enthusiuastic at what he does. Aced his class, awesome man. Definately take....definately
Very helpful, help sessions before every test, also has review sheets for each test, and will drop the lost grade. Hard topics, but he will slow down til you understand it....AWSOME
RICK SMITH IS GOD!!! if you are smart you WILL take this man's class. not only is he an awesome professor he makes you laugh every class...watch for hand movements over the hairline...and chest hair which might pop out every so often...LOVE YOU RICK TILL I DIE!!
Smith is God when it comes to math. If he doesnt know it it hasnt been discovered yet. He is always there for help and works hard to make sure students understand the material. I would jump at the chance to take another of his classes.
Great teacher who cares about the students for once
Pretty easy. Gives pre test before test which is very similar to actual test. Nice guy. Kinda Boring. Has attendance policy. Drops lowest quiz and lowest test.
rick smith is the man!! i love this guy. always there to help, easy going, gives a pretest that matches the real test (different #s) and is so friendly! i love his hand gestures and look out for some of his pronunciations (zeeeerooo) love it!! i love rick smith, thats why im taking him again for stats!!
This guy is GREAT. He is engaging, clear, interesting... I have the long class (Tu/Thurs) and it flies. Take this class because he will make sure that you do well. HE CARES!
He is a very dedicated professor and takes his job seriously. He's there for extra help whenever you need him, but hes kind of cranky and boring. Gives a pretest before every exam which is helpful. It's not an EASY A, you have to work, but he gives you every opportunity to get that A
Rick Smith is hands down the best professor at Bryant. He cares about his students more than anything and we appreciate it. He'll stay and help you learn ANYTIME. Definitely take the class and you'll learn a ton
rick smith is amazing, i love this man!! he is very helpful and is willing to do anything to help a student out. he is always available for help and is the best professor EVER.
he is one of the best teachers i have ever had. he is so helpful and tries to make class as fun as it can be (come on now it's math afterall). take him!!! he will help you until he knows you know the material well. funny too
Rick Smith is nothing short of a genious, yet he is still very good at knowing how difficult something will be for his students, something many math professors dont seem to be able to do. He is funny in class and will stop at nothing to make sure everyone is on the same page. He's been known to stay after till 10pm or later to help students.
Smith is such a nice professor. He is very good at conveying the material in a simplistic way so that even people who traditionally have a hard time with math can do well. He'll go out of his way to help anyone out, and he's grading policy is very fair (and pretty easy). Take Rick Smith if you're looking to learn a lot and boost your GPA.
Chances are he cares more about you doing well than you do. Best professor i've had at Bryant.
I was terrified of statistics going into this course and now its the end of the semester and Im getting an A. Such a great professor and just a nice guy. Beleive everything you read! Hes always available for help and has a very clear way of explaining things. Highly reccomended!
He's the man, and has been the only math teacher that I actually think is smarter than me, even without his degrees in math. He knows everything without even having to look it up. He might be crazy, but he's a bomb teacher. Take him if you get a chance. He gives tons of partial credit so make sure to put stuff down on his tests..
if you don't understand the material, it's not his fault. he goes to great lengths to teach you and help you for tests. take him
Rick = THE man. Possibly the best teacher @ bryant. Tries to talk as fast as he thinks which makes him sound crazy but he's incredibly helpful, precise, generous (grading) and just an awesome allround teacher. Almost never uses text bks he makes his own handouts and teaching style! HIGHLY suggest taking any class with him You wont regret it
Rick Smith is The Man
I'm usually very good at math but now I'm barely passing. His classes are all over the place, so my notes are all out of order and its hard to keep track of what's going on. I'm completely lost because this man does not know how to teach math.
I would rather have Smith than a teacher who gives the quiz answers to students before the quiz. This guy really goes the extra mile to help students. Not only does he make himself available, he makes an effort to make sure students know the information. I highly recommend taking his class. He is not a hard teacher and you will learn the material.
A great teacher.Although his notes are crazy and he kinda has a stutter or just speaks fast, his class is entertaining.Go to his office hours and it is usually one on one and that helps a lot.A very nice guy who is willing to explain math in a different way to make you understand the topic. He tries to be funny and all you can do is laugh along.
Rick Smith is a good professor. He is very passionate about what he teaches (math) and he is highly concerned with student success. However, I found him to be a rather hard grader, and his tests always had one or two problems that were different(i.e never seen before) than the ones from HW or class examples.
Smith is absolutely crazy (in a good way)! Very passionate about math and helping students succeed. Will help you with anything you are having touble with. Holds study sessions the days before tests to answer questions. Highly recommended!
Great teacher, study sessions are very helpful. Drops lowest test grade.
Smith is a great teacher. He wants to help everyone and he keeps track of his students grades. Study sessions are very helpful. He wants everyone to do well in his class. Great professor! Highly recommend to take for any math class.
Rick is the smartest professor at Bryant... and he isn't stuck up about it. You can have your management concepts, your marketing, business, blah blah. the smartest people are the ones who are perfect at math, he IS THE SMARTEST PROFESSOR AT BRYANT, and the best part is HE IS NOT STUCK UP ABOUT IT. KNOWS THE ANSWER TO EVERYTHING, W/OUT THINKING
Professor Smith is hands down my favorite professor. His teaching style is fast but that is only because of his passion for the material. He has study sessions the day before exams which help a ton!
GREATEST TEACHER in THE WORLD! MOST AMAZING. SO passionate about the topic and wants all his students to do well. ALWAYS offering help and review sessions, i couldn't make a review session and he called me the night before the final to see how my studying was going. SO many useful guides and material given out. GREAT lectures, useful examples!
He is the BEST PROFESSOR at Bryant University in the Math Department..MUST TAKE HIM..
He is the smartest teacher at Bryant! I've had a lot of them, I know they all teach different stuff... but he teaches math, and he KNOWS EVERYTHING. I sleep at night knowing... if there was a comet heading towards planet earth ever 1 day, or the sun burned out... Rick Smith would calculate how to move Earth off its orbit and to safety. TAKE HIM
Seriously, take his class, even if you aren't required to. He is the MAN! So enthusiastic and funny. GREATEST PROFESSOR EVER.
Rick Smith is one of the best math teachers I've ever had. He makes everything very clear. I didn't even need to do the homework to understand what i was doing. Just do the practice tests and pay attention in class and you'll do fine.
He is a good teacher. He gives 4 tests, one per unit, and drops the lowest grade. If your going to class you'll be fine. He is very helpful if you go to him in office hours. Sometimes he is confusing, but most of the time its pretty clear cut, it is math after all.
One of the most caring professors at Bryant. He really wants to make sure everyone knows all the information. He gives practice tests that are very good to study before the tests. Overall a pretty easy class if you keep up with the material. He can get confused at times and is quite the character, but still worth taking!
Really nice guy, but I found the class somewhat difficult because he goes through the material very quickly and gives a lot of quizzes. But if you see him at his office hours he will clarify any issues. Practice tests are helpful and he has a review session before every test.
I can't say enough positive things about Rick Smith!! He's literally the best Professor I've ever had! He really cares about his students, he's extremely helpful & always makes himself available! He really knows what he's doing & does a great job at explaining material! I'd HIGHLY recommend him. I plan on taking him as often as possible! I <3 Smith
Professor Smith is a really good guy. He knows his stuff really well but sometimes has trouble communicating it in class. If you don't understand something, go to his office hours and he can usually explain it in five minutes. I'm going to take him again next semester for Statistics.
He's a really great professor. He sometimes talks fast or mumbles and he can seem kind of scattered, but he's actually pretty well organized and if you don't understand something the first time he more than encourages you to come for help during office hours. He gives practice tests plus an actual test he's given before as study material.
Rick is one of my favorite teachers at Bryant. He gives his quizzes at the end of class and reviews right before it so you always feel prepared. He always gives out practice tests and has review sessions for tests. High energy and fast sometimes, but extremely helpful. He's a genius. Definitely recommend him for any class you can get him.
By far my favorite teacher at Bryant. He knows his stuff and teaches very clearly. He also is there to help you succeed. He gives practice exams and the previous exams to you before any test. This helps you study and know what will be on the test itself. He is the best
Ask him to tell you math jokes on the last day of class you will not regret it! Also get a free pdf of the textbook online. Best teacher I've ever had, enough said.
Had Rick Smith for Statistics many years ago. His style was good natured and the pace was good. I wish I had him for other Math courses
I LOVE RICHARD SMITH. He can be kinda scatter-brained, but he is always willing to go over things again and explain them if he can tell people are struggling. For every test he gives, he posts a practice exam that is exactly the same. If you can do the practice exam, you'll ace the real one. Really funny guy who absolutely loves math.
Great professor for Math110. There are 8 to 9 quizzes and 5 tests. Sends practice quizzes and tests which are replicas of the real thing. Provides optional homework along with answers. If you show up to class and ask questions when confused, it's an easy A. Grades super lenient and lectures go by quickly.
Great professor! He explains well and although he moves a little fast, he still teaches well. He gives a lot of optional homework, and he gives 4 exams plus a final. He drops the lowest exam, and provides practice exams that are basically the same as the real thing! Would recommend!
Rick Smith is a super nice guy. However, he was an extremely confusing and all over the place teacher. His handwriting is barely legible which makes it hard to copy notes off the board and his mind jumps from one place to another very fast so he's hard to follow. He does give out practice tests that are very similar to the actual test which help.
I have taken him for every single course that he offers. I wish more professors where like him. Yes, he can come off as a scatter brain sometimes, but he is litteraly the smartest, most caring professor I have ever met. He is always available for office hours, provides plenty of hw and practice test and CARES about yoursuccess take him every time
Rick Smith is the best professor I have ever had for a math class in my life. He makes it so easy to learn. He is super awkward but a genius, and he is very accessible for office hours. He makes sure everyone knows what's going. He doesn't make you buy a textbook he gives all of the info. Do the homework and you will never need to study.
Amazing professor, take him if possible. I had him for calc 3 and linear algebra - both classes the practice tests are very helpful for the exams. Calc is 4 tests (drops lowest) and final. Linear Algebra is 3 tests and some quizzes. Multiple grade weights so the quizzes don't count in some - he takes the highest overall grade. Wants you to do well
If you skip class, your just going to miss new topics presented. He does review sessions outside of class time the day before every test, as well as post the previous years test for practice. The test for practice and given were very similar. Though he has a stuttering problem, he is awesome. Always willing to help you. Quizzes are 1-4 questions
Never did he give attitude to students who asked "stupid questions". No question is silly for him. Extremely easy class if you just do what he says and keep up with the homework. Homework problems are never checked but they mirror the test exactly but with different numbers. He always provide a review session the day before a test outside of class.
man is dope. easy bro
Prof. Smith is super cool and awesome at teaching math. He talks and writes kind of fast but not to the point where you can't keep up. He's always willing to repeat things, go over problems or meet during office hours. His review sessions for tests are really good. Will definitely take his class again.
Professor Rick is the goat. Literally easy class if you take good notes and listen. Quizzes and test are mad easy and you barley need to study because it's the exact same as the practice test he gives you ahead of time. This man is the definition of a good professor. Understanding, caring, and willing to go out of his way to help you learn.
Terrible. Incredibly hard to follow. Handwriting is atrocious. If you don't go to office hours to clear things up or watch recording and go through each thing he says individually, then you will just be confused.
Professor Smith is really nice, but he could talk forever. His handwriting is incredibly hard to read, making it extremely difficult to pay attention in class to take notes. All his grades come from only Quizzes and Tests. I don't like buying textbooks, but he does assign hw problems if you want to do them (I didn't; if u get the notes you're fine)
Professor Smith is a great professor who cares for his students and tries to have a connection with each one of them. This class is difficult mainly just because of the complexity of the topics, but Professor Smith explains everything very comprehensively. You will have to study to pass this class.
Had Rick Smith for linear algebra. The content can be challenging if you don't study ordo homework. Grade is composed of 3 exams, quizzes, and the final. Gives study sheet for each. He has different methods of weighting each so you end up with the best grade which is nice. His handwriting isn't the best to see and he goes fast but very nice guy.
Very hard to understand, contradicts himself a lot and handwriting is barely legible. Lectures are very hard to follow but if you go to office hours he will help more. He does care a lot about his students and wants them to succeed but he is hard to follow. Tests are exactly like the practice tests so make sure you do those and you will do good.
He teaches very well and will answer any and all questions. He cares a lot about his students and is always available for office hours. He's a funny guy but beware his hand writing is awful. Quizzes and tests aren't to hard if you prepare but your whole grade is based on them.
A lovable nerd is the only way to describe him and is a breath of fresh air for those who have had toxic math teachers in the past. His notes are messy but as long as you are listening to what he's saying and asking for clarification if needed you should be in good hands. Also his review session are great and I would highly recommend going.
The worst. I never have ever had a professor like Professor Smith. You can't understand him and you can't read what he writes on the board. When you have a question, he just completely misses it and does not help at all.
Can't read his handwriting, has a habit of misgrading quizzes and gets upset when brought up to him. Also, a warning for Linear algebra there's a section of the course where he uses a concept he completely made up, not linear algebra related.
Let me start off by saying that Rick Smith is an amazing guy with a great personality. The type of guy I'd buy a beer. But, he is a god awful professor. You can't understand him because he's all over the place, review sessions do nothing but make it worse. My grade is living off of ACE currently. Sporadically assigns quizzes the night before.
Rick Smith is an amazing professor, I really learned a lot in his lectures. Besides his hand writing which is awful he really wants his student to succeed. His practice tests and quizzes are almost one-to-one what he tests you on. When in his class definitely ask him about his math student book.
He's a nice guy that wants to help his students. His handwriting sucks though.
