rick was a really nice teacher, very helpful. I Can tell that he cared about his students ALOT!! His notes were the best...kinda strict on attendance, he had you sign in everyday. His tests were easy, you just have to study...unfortunately i got a C in the class becuase i didn't study for the final :/. take him, he's HELLA cool =)
this class sucked. he was a cool teacher, but the work that he made us was stupid. he made us do these technology projects that didn't teach us anything. he also made us do a project and only gave us 2 weeks to finish it. he was the only teacher that assigned a project. even if you had a 98% in his class, you woud have to do another project.
Rick is a fairly engaging professor who focuses on statistics in such a way that you'll be prepared to take follow up classes as an undergrad or a grad student. If you are entering a major where more math or stats will be required, I recommend Professsor Woodmansee fairly highly. For instance: economics, math, engineering, business... etc. etc.
Professor Woodmansee is a very nice person, but his class suck. There are 5 Tests in the whole semester, no quizzes, no midterm, and there is a huge Final. He give us a study guide for every test and we could use one page of notes during the tes. Also, there are 10 technology projects and a survey we all has to do. Do take this guy for next seme
VERY GOOD TEACHER. HE IS VERY CLEAR DURING HIS LECTURES, AND HE IS A TEACHER WHO TAKES PRIDE IN HIS JOB.
Do not take this class if you can help it! And if you do take it, take tons of notes and hire a tutor. He doesn't explain well and he expects you to get it in a second. If you can take Angelina Lambert. She's a really good teacher and much easier.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. Not to brag or anything, but i'm transferring out of SCC with a 3.8 gpa and he is by far the WORSE teacher I've ever taken. I took 5 classes and his stats class took up 98% of my time. Due to his poor lecturing, I had to learn stats straight out from the book. He is very rude to students and does not seem to think before he speaks.
Pros: rick is a great teacher (imo). he taught straight out of the book and would teach examples that you would see in the hw problems. makes u create a sample test before the exams and they REALLY help you, but it is optional. Cons: can be quite boring to sit in class. monotone. but who cares, math is math.
Very unapproachable, will not answer questions, unreasonable tests with material not even covered.
This teacher was horrible! I split my classes into 2 sections and he acts as if it's a summer course by going through chapters so fast and cramming everything together. I couldn't even understand the notes he gave in class HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO STUDY! I also felt like he watched the clock more than the students. The whole class just felt rushed.
Don't take him. His passion for teaching is their but it is very misguided. He thought stats should rule your life and if you don't find it easy then you are not putting in the effort. It was not an enjoyable class by any means. Yuck!
He was horrible. He assigns irrelevant "technology projects" and tests are extremely difficult & he grades harshly. Rude & expects you to devote every waking momemt to studying for his class. Monotone & hard to follow. I learned absolutely nothing from his class.
I see no problems with him. This teacher interacted with the students during class. There were more students who remained throughout this semester than during other semesters. Not too strict on grading. Gave more points for the formula/equation to an answer rather than the correct answer. Does not allow calculators most of the time.
He does interact well with students in class. When I went to him for additional help he made me feel pretty worthless. He anounced in class to drop if you had a C or less on the first test because we would probably fail. So I did.
very good teacher
Very nice guy outside of the classroom, the type of guy you would want to watch a football game and drink a beer with. TEACHING style is off the charts on the negative side though! Makes you feel as though your questions aren't worth his breath to answer. Started the class with about 40 students, ended with about 15. DON't TAKE HIM!!
DON'T TAKE HIM. tHIS INSTRUCTOR IS ONE OF THOSE MILED MANNERED INSTRUCTORS, BUT THE TRUTH IS INSIDIOUS. YOU WOULD THINK HIS SYLIBUS WOULD SPELL OUT HOW THE DIFFERENT ASSPECTS OF THE CLASS ARE WEIGHED. I SCORED VERY HIGH ON 5 OF 6 CATEGORYS, AND IN THE 60% IN THE WEAKEST CAT; I RECIEVED A NOT PASSING GRADE, AND THAT WAS WITH PERFECT ATTENDENCE.
Too crammed for a summer course. By far one of the worst math professors I've ever had. His teaching style ridiculous. He teaches so fast that you can't even catch up with him. He does not symphathize with students at all and expects you to know all the material in one day. Did not offer much help during his office hours. Take him at your own risk.
Not a suggested Professor for this course. To teach such a difficult subject, this professor does not try to bring his teachings down to the students level (entry level), he teaches as though he everyone should already understand the Statistics language. If you can avoid this class, by all means do so.
His "you should have known this by now" mentality becomes a barrier for him to help or reach out to his students. By taking his class, you will do a lot of self taught learning which contradicts the purpose of his job which is teaching. If you want to repeat the course, take this guy.
I am very shocked by Mr. Woodmansee's reviews here. I took his class in the summer, with little prior education in algebra and earned an A+. He is a great teacher with a sense of humor and a passion for mathmatics. He was always willing to help and answer homework questions. There were never any suprises on his tests and he graded fairly.
HE DOES TAKE ROLL EVERYDAY. U HAV TO TAKE A QUIZ EVERYDAY WHICH IS GOING 2 BE ON THE HW YOU GET. HE DOESNT GRADE THAT REALLY HARD BT HE WANTS U TO SHOW EVERY STEP HOW TO SOLVE IT. EXAMS ARE OKAY. HE WILL ASK U ALL IF U HAV ANY ? FROM THE HW, N THEN HE WILL DO IT 4 U ON THE BOARD. HE TRIES TO BE FUN BUT HAV 2 TRY HARD. DOESNT OFFER ANY EXTRA CREDIT.
BY TAKEING Rick KNOW THAT YOU NEED TO BE CAPABLE OF AND PREPARED TO TEACH YOURSELF THE SUBJECT. No lie.
I do not recomm to take him for any math class, he does not know how to teach, the way he grade is not fair. he thinks everyone who take cal is engineering major.Homeworks and quizzes everyday, he may think that we do not have a life besides math.
If you want to sacrifice your life, take his class. If you want to cry, take his class. If you ready to die, take his class. If you think you are genius, take the class with this helpless teacher who just copy the solution on the blackboard.
I'm amazed at the negative ratings for Prof. Woodmansee on here. I personally hate algebra and for the first time ever, with his help, I finally started getting it. I busted my butt and got my first math "A" in his math 100 class (going back to jr. high). He always answered any questions I had through email and stayed after class to help out.
So i just took his summer math 34 class and it wasnt too difficut he does 2-3 chpts a day and explains all of the steps homework is worth 4 points and he checks it everyday . all the problems are odd. you have goup work and class work everyday but it helps you get what we learned in class you have help from your peers and he goes around to help. hi
his exams are how they say they are its what we learned he just switches the nubmbers around.
his fial is eeasy he give you a study guide afeter you get your exams out he gives you a copy for the test questions and answers showing your work so you an see what you got wrong. awesome teachers. the only thing is sometimes he works fast and says you should know it beause he does. i hate that. be to class everyday or u miss a lot of points if u
Prof. Woodmansee is a hard teacher. But he's passionate about his subject and while he goes a bit fast at times, he explains things very clearly and always answers questions. I think people don't like him because they equate "good" with "easy." If you study, go to class, and do the work, you'll pass his class. But you have to do the work. And study
He is a great teacher who I've ever met before.
His explanations can be confusing.
Doesn't always answer questions due to class time.
HE GOES WAY TOO FAST. HE EXPECTS YOU TO KNOW EVERYTHING. HE'LL TEACH YOU STUFF IN CLASS THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR HW. DONT TAKE HIM.
He gave me the worst math experience of my life! I had to spend over $2000 for a tutor just to get an A in his class. It was so miserable. The class was full at the beginning of the year (40 people), he was actually turning people away (the lucky ones). At the end of the semester there where 6 people including me left standing. Dont do it!!!!!!!!!!
Took his on-line course and it was hard, but he's fair. He gives you the exam questions to study! If you do poorly, it's your fault. This is from someone who last took algebra 10+ years ago.
He complicates his explanations. Each class he would run out of lecture time and speed through material because he spent about 45 mins-hour on homework questions that could have been answered by a tutor. However he tells you exactly what to study for tests (even if he is a point Nazi, taking points off for doing TOO much work)
Great teacher. Very thorough explanations of new topics. Reviews a lot of topics that you are supposed to know going into the class and builds up to level the class is at. I really enjoyed this class. The homework wasn't that hard if you take good notes. And he reviews and does as many homework problems as you need before turning it in.
Fair teacher. Explains well. Can be kinda hard on you when giving points but only cuz he wants you to learn the right way to do it and the right way to show work. If you pay full attention in class and do the homework you will do fine.
Rick is the best math teacher I've ever had.He explains things so clearly and tells you what's going to be on tests/quizzes and when they will be.If you want to do well then take good notes, attend every class session, pay attention,do your homework,& ASK QUESTIONS if you need help. There's a lot of homework but it helps you to understand the lesson.
I would not suggest taking Woodmansee for statistics EVER. I really wasn't understanding any of the material and I went to tutoring, and my tutor said that the way Woodmansee was teaching was confusing and way more complicated than it had to be. My tutor helped me more than the instructor ever did. He also didn't do enough examples during class.
This proffessor was extremely detailed in his teaching which is especially helpful if you have trouble with Math. He gave extra credit and was very and very fair when we said that the website was down, he gave us etxra time to complete the online assignments.
Great teacher and willing to help if you have any questions. Very open communication line with the students. Have taken him for three semesters.
Such an awful teacher. Canceled office hours before an exam, laughs at you when you ask questions. For his online Stats class he mostly used pre-recorded lectures from other teachers... I would never recommend this teacher for this class. Worst teacher I've ever had.
Worst teacher ever, you ask for help and he tells you to go online to his lecture videos and watch them. Wants homework done the way he says in his lectures and not the way the book does it. Confuses you for the nothing. Waste of time and waste of money on code & book.
Nice teacher. Boring video lectures! Must do homework, quizzes and do on exams to pass class. Homework and quizzes are easy. This is for the Hybrid class. He loves math so you have to respect that but he can go too fast sometimes when lecturing which is fine. Do practice exams and workshops and you will pass exams.
Great instructor. I found the format he used for teaching incredibly helpful and I even found an appreciation for math (which used to make me cringe. Take his class!
I took the online course w/ Prof. W. His video lectures were very clear & it was nice to be able to pause/rewind/re-watch whenever you want as to better understand the material & take as good of notes as you want. Nice teacher; willing to let you make up exams if you can't make it on a certain date. Just do HW & practice exams/quizzes to succeed :)
Awesome Professor, if you care about making sure you pass his class he will make sure he helps you pass!
Entire course is basically online. With in class group assignments. I feel the online portion of the class was very useless and didn't learn anything from it. All the lectures are online videos he makes him self, from the book author or other places. I spent way to much time with the online portion even for a 5 credit class.
He is a hard teacher and confusing. Does explain when you have questions.
He is really hard and does not explain the math well. I went to tutoring and worked really hard but just could not make it in his class.
I have never been so frustrated in a math class! There is a ton of work and he does not want to answer questions. I used to love math, but now I hate it.
If you have a job, steer clear. Tests are due right after the job like others noted. Expensive and confusing online system. Tests are on the same day you do six assignments with 40-60 questions due over the weekend. Tests are at freakish hours 5:40 pm, sometimes 8:00 , sometimes Friday. I withdrew and my full class dwindled to 9 students.
WOULD NOT TAKE IF THIS WAS THE LAST CLASS ON EARTH. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Set Up: Self teach 100 pages of hw. Next day: He writes a 3 problems as notes. You then teach yourself 100 NEW chapters. Earlier content is fuzzy. Too bad. There is an exam today. He says review for the exams but you can't because his amount of hw.
This class is one giant cram session. You never have enough time to brush up on older subjects and basically the class is just you and your book and online. Many times I would finish online and feel nothing translated over to class. So his class lectures feel unplanned and he does two review questions, he doesn't make sure his class "gets it".
Very hard grader. Tests are straight forward but he takes a lot of points off for minor errors. Posts a lot of useful information on D2L such as practice exams and homework solutions. Only assigns even problems for homework, and yes he grades those hard too. For lecture, he rewrites the textbook word for word on the board. Not an engaging class.
Linear Algebra is an abstract and different subject and it's only three units. Small lecture time but a lot to cover. It's hard no matter who teaches it. Professor Woodmansee will help you when you ask. A lot of note taking during and the outside of the class. Study hard! Do not take this class contemporary with other hard class!
I wanted to be entertained but he made is learn and we even had to do homework, which was not fun at all. What was even worse is that you have to study or you will not pass which everyone knows is not fair and bad teaching. Because of this not being easy he is the worst teacher ever.
Online class with one meeting on campus. Dont expect to pass without doing work. He explains clearly and helps when you ask, so ask duh. Not hard or too much work if you keep up with the work which isnt much.
Hands down, he is the worst instructor on campus and that is from an AP student with a high GPA. He is monotone, and his math review is very brief. He uses examples from the book and write without really explaining why you do each step. His teaching style is just copying numbers on a board with minimal words. I had to use Fort Bend Tutoring.
He's a very straight forward teacher. He's very clear in his teaching. Questions that don't have to do with the lesson are ignored so as not to confuse the other students. He gives great practice tests.
Like stated in the comments, if you have a job, get an extra day off. There are, at least 6 homeworks due every week accompanied by 2 quizzes. And let's not forget the 30 minute long video lecture for EACH HW. Bombed 1 exam and my grade went from a B+ to a D- almost an F. Got it up to a C- but haven't been able to get it higher. Wish me luck!
He is a great teacher. If you show up to class, you can guarantee yourself an A. He is super clear and helpful on everything and it is honestly an easy A. There is a good amount of homework given each night and there are group work papers that help give you practice. He hands out practice tests that are similar to the real tests.
Professor Woodmansee is awesome in his own way. He is clear and thorough for the most part. Most class sessions consist of half lecture and the other have "group work" (doesn't have to be done in group), he passes out the key prior to the end of the class session. Homework was due every day. Exams were identical to the practice exams.
Great teacher has a really good teaching style that is very easy to understand. Very helpful with lots of homework that is really helpful on the quizzes and tests. Defenitey will take this teacher again.
Great teacher, he goes over what will be on exams. Stops and explains when you ask, try's to make make the lessons as clear as possible, and best of all he can be funny!
Professor Woodmansee was very clear on lectures and always made sure we fully understood the examples on lecture notes or group work given. He was well liked and easy to talk to and never made us feel ashamed or dumb to ask any questions we had. He made me really understand every chapter and I personally don't do well in math so that meant a lot.
He's a great teacher, and it's a comfortable class. I did a hybrid class so l showed up to class twice a week, homework was online. If the whole class struggling if you ask he might extend it (happened in my class a lot.) You can ask questions and he gets back to email soon. Did study guides for test. Top 5 math teachers ever!
He is a nice professor. I will choose his class again.
The best math teacher ever no surprises ever on work very good and thural.
Very good teacher.
Good teacher, made it easy to understand. Would have preferred things to be due at end of week at midnight rather than mid week during day. Being a evening and mostly online class I feel like most students work during the day so hard to meet the mid week deadlines. But overall was happy with the class and the teacher was great!
A truly great professor, if you do the homework and study your practice tests you will pass no problem. He designs his classes perfectly and the practice exams completely prepare you for the tests. He is a very nice guy and always helpful when you need it. TAKE THIS CLASS! If you have had trouble in math, woodmansee will turn you around to love it!
I ended up dropping this class because i fell behind. He's decent and appreciates a student who is Making an effort to pass. Don't fall behind and maybe you'll have better luck than me
Great teacher, gives you lectures so you can understand the textbook better. Always asks if you have questions related to the HW. Loved that he prepares you very well for a test!!
Professor woodmansee teaches class with a lot of lecture notes. I feel like he can explain well. He does want problems done the right way with the correct steps. Overall, I think he is a good professor and I would take him again.
Took this class over the summer, but he assigned more HW than expected for fall/spring semester. HW HURTS your grade, he gives you extremely hard proofs for which you autoloose points just for notation issues. Exams are relatively easy, except for the proof question (there is only one question, but you need to MEMORIZE 30+ proofs for each test.)
Rick has an in-class tutor for class assignments and that goes to show that he cares about his students because not many professors provide the class with their own tutor. His exam reviews are identical to the exam itself. Just different numbers. I highly recommend him for Math 34. He is very nice and accommodates the needs of his students.
Professor Woodmansee was one of the best math teacher's I've ever had. He explained things clearly and provided helpful information throughout the course. I really like his teaching style. If I were to give my professor a grade, I would give him an A.
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! I had struggled with math for so long until I took Woodmansee. He sets his classes up perfectly and is extremely clear. If you do the homework, you will pass the exams no problem. He's a great guy and will answer any questions. Also, he doesn't rush or gloss over stuff but really makes sure you're understanding the material.
Clear instructions and explanations, good lectures, willing to help students really understand key concepts. The online hybrid class was a lot of work, but if you keep up with lectures, homework, and practice tests, you'll have no problem.
If math isn't your strong suit, there are a few instructors at SCC I could recommend and a few I'd recommend staying away from. Mr. Woodmansee is nearly right down the middle, leaning towards a recommendation. The class I took was online and I didn't ask for any office hours but you will be expected to put in a lot of time into his online classes
I hated this class. His style of explanation was very vague. He breezes through three problems and then moves on to the notes for a lecture. He doesn't teach math, he reads it. I had to use Youtube Fortbend Math to pass. Would not reccomend at all.
Prof. Woodmansee is awesome. His class is very well structured he gives you the notes and all the handouts you will ever need to do well. He does have certain ways of doing math problems which made some students in my class not happy, but every teacher is different and you have to listen to them. He gives a test about every 2 weeks and homework.
Really great Prof. His class was great. If you pay attention attention and study you will pass the exams. Complete all of the hw to get credit.
Lets just say all but ten people dropped out of my class and the remaining had low c's. Not great at giving help or explaining multiple times. When students didn't understand the material he would say they were not trying hard enough. He said it was typical for community college students to fail his class.
Great professor, my math skills are subpar but his intructions are so thorough that I was actually able to grasp the concepts and understand the material. He gave me confidence in my math skills, he's super thorough and its easy to tell how passionate he is about math! Great professor! I totally recommend!
He is an amazing teacher, took 103 with him as a hybrid class and passed with a C, took him for 100 and I passed :D ( with a C) you do have to work for it. His online class is a lot of work. If you have time that's great but if your like me, giggling full time work and school be ready for lots of long nights. but he is also very understanding.
Passion for math. Makes sure to give feedback. Organized. Big on tutors and office hours.
What great professor, do all your homework. He gives a study guide that is basically the test and just do the study guide a few times and your sure to pass.
Any math class is difficult but Peofessor Woodmansee is by far the best. The Proffessors lectures were in depth and easy to understand, if you had any confusion he was always available to clarify and had a lot of office hours dedicated to the students as well as tutors. He was understanding with emergencies and accommodated accordingly. I recommend
Best math class ever taken. Each chapter he gives you a lecture packet with information & examples. Makes homework & studying SUPER easy! Every test you have a review AND a study guide! After each test he hands out your current grade in the class which is helpful. He NEVER misses/cancels a class so don't expect that. Wish he did math 100 on campus!
Really good professor, he will let give you lots of homework but I guess that helps you to practice for the tests. He will explain everything really good, answer all of your questions and he will give you excellent lectures and group work that will help you to understand better. He's respectful, nice, sometimes funny. Really good person and profess
Mr. Woodmansee is an outstanding professor. His way of teaching is solid as well as clear, and most importantly, it's easy to understand. He makes sures that every student understands the lesson. If math isn't your strongest subject, I strongly recommend taking his Math 34 class.
If you are looking for a teacher who cares about math and his students then just take this guy.
Recommended
I did had a great time with this class and I learned a lot.
It's a great Profesor
He was a great professor. He totally will answer all your questions and give you the proper resources to succeed. I would definitely love to continue my math curriculum with this professor.
Professor Woodmansee has straight forward lectures. Notes are clear but sometimes to simple as in not enough examples. Hes willing to answer all questions and has alot of compassion for what he does. I'm not a math person at all but he got me through. Lectures go by fast and the group work helps. Make sure you dont miss class as you lose points.
Professor Woodmansee was the BEST math teacher I've ever had. If you dont pass his class, it must be because you are constantly absent or not paying attention. You can ask questions, you will do group work, and he offers review before all tests. He's a very good teacher, and I would take him again.
Math is my lease favorite subject and I've had a difficult time understanding and memorizing formulas until I had Professor Woodmansee. He explained all the instructions and lectures so clearly that it would make me confident and comfortable with homework and tests. I would keep him as a math professor if I wasn't moving across country.
Professor Woodmansee is a great dude. I really appreciated his availability and willingness to work with me. Also, our semester has a great tutor that helps out tremendously. There is an insane amount of work due on ConnectMath but the syllabus is accurate and makes it easy to know what's due.
He was one of the best teachers I have ever had. His class is so structured. His lecture notes and group work are so helpful. He also has a Tudor that will help you outside of class. A lot of homework but that is actually very beneficial because you learn the material well. He is an excellent teacher.
Very tough grader. For one of the HW problems, I showed all my work, got the answer right but forgot to put the $ in my answer so I got NO credit at all for the problem. Lectures are pretty straight forward. Lots of homework. He teaches very fast. He teaches as if we are already have knowledge in the subject.
Here's the thing people either love math or they don't. Watch the lectures, do the homework, and participate in the discussions. There is a lot of homework and you are expected to work in this class but I promise if you do the work it will be worth it. He's a fair grader and gives good feedback. If you put the effort in; so will he.
One of the best math professor at SCC! Very clear, detailed and helpful. I plan to take him until I am done with math. I've always hated math but he has shown me a different way of working on math problems and it makes my life so much easier. He actually gives a great practice sheet also. This really help me memorize a lot better.
Took this class online. Was definitely worth it, though it is a hard class. Deadlines are everyday at 3 pm, which can be hard if you work, but it is possible to do everything earlier as he is a fast grader. Has at least 7 in person exams that you have to go to if you take the class online. Take him, you'll learn a great deal.
65% test even if you do all the homework you can still fail. Not a pleasant man to be around. Feels like class was designed for him to do the least amount of work possible. If you struggle with math and math concepts do not take his class he will not care and let you fail.
Before Professor Woodmansee I had a nearly impossible time understanding math. None of my teachers in high school or even tutors were able to help me understand but Woodmansee was very clear, organized, and easy to understand. Also when I asked questions he was helpful and not confusing like most math professors! Im taking him again next semester!
Took this online and the lectures help, because they are always available, the test questions are related to the lectures and the homework, there are no real surprises there (thank GOD). I could have gotten an A I think but I the online homework took so much time I couldn't always finish, but he gives partial credit. Super solid Prof, I enjoyed him.
Straight forward class. It has a lot of work but if you keep on it you will get an A. His lectures/notes/sample exams prepare you well for the exams. I could have gotten an A but got too overwhelmed with the work so I ended up with a B. If you can keep up with the work then I recommend the class
Woodmansee was an amazing professor! I wouldn't have done so well in statistics had I not had him. He's very clear in the lectures. He's humble; not afraid to laugh about his little mistakes and correct them openly. I knew nothing about statistics when I started, but with his patience and availability I did great!
Professor Woodmansee is the best math teacher! I have always struggled to understand all types of math but his lectures are clear & easy. He is tough on grading but passing is easy if you show up, do the homework, and the lectures. His classes are daily routines, follow them, and ALWAYS ask for help. He is very open to help and is always available.
I took the online class and it was a LOT of work. Prof W gives clear lectures that make the material understandable. For each section you turn in lecture notes, do a group exercise and complete a homework assignment. It's essential to be organized and on top of deadlines in this class. You can bring a full-page sheet of notes to each exam.
He has WAY TOO much homework. You have to print every single assignment. Take notes, post it online. Then print group work worksheet then upload online again, then you have to print "class" work sheet and turn it in. Then you have online canvas homework. All homework is due at 10:30AM every day!! Doesn't work if you work full time :(
I enjoyed his class very much. Complex & right to the point. He explains very throughly what hes doing & why hes doing what. His notes are easy to remember: gives sidenotes, tips/tricks so thats a plus. Gives out right amount of hw to help prepare you for whats next. Basically: Show up. Listen. Study. Study. Homework. Pass. Learn. Next! :)
Will most definitely take every other class he has that I need ! Absolutely great ! I enjoy the lectures very much - complex & understandable. If you couldnt comprehend mathematics before you will when you enroll into his class! Gives out a lot of hw problems but also gives out answer key, the next day, so you see what you did wrong & correct it.
Prof W. is the best decision I have made at SCC. His online course was a lot of work, but it paid off. I went from barely passing, the previous semester, to a solid B. The exams were difficult, but reasonable. Gives clear partial credit. PLUS, there is an hour of tutoring available before exams. Office hours helped, too. Easy to talk to.
Great professor but is serious about attendance MANDATORY! in the beginning of the semester he will automatically drop you from the class if you're late or absent. You must notify him if you are going to be late or absent. lectures clear and understanding. Quizzes every class before lecture. HW everyday, class work rarely, and test are hard.
I took Prof. Rick math 27 and Math 34. He is a great teacher, his lecture is really clear and easy to understand. when you had math problem he will show you step by step then you know which step that you don't get. I will continually take him if I can.
Professor Woodmansee really cares about his students. He doesn't mind going over math that you have difficulty understanding. As far as the quizzes and exams, you don't have to wonder what you're going to be tested on because he let's you know.
Professor Woodmansee is a great instructor. You can learn a lot from his lectures. Attendance is mandatory so if you want a good grade you better show up. There is a good amount of homework but thats because I was taking one day a week on Saturdays for 4 hours. I will definitely recommend him to anyone having difficulties with Math.
Well organized, clear about each chapter. For each chapter he has you do group work right away, which is helpful it really helps the subject. Also homework for each chapter and pracitce test for each exam. Attendance is important and turning in homework on time. He went out of his way when I missed a class and he sent me all of the notes and group.
I am so glad I ended up with Mr. Woodmansee for my first semester of math. He is such a great professor, I plan on taking the rest of my math courses with him! He truly cares about his students and wants you to pass. He gives practice exams before each exam and they are extremely helpful!
He is a good professor. Very monotone, but is very intelligent on the subject. He will take the time to explain any questions you may have. I think class structure is used wisely: split between lecture and in class work. Gives LOTS of homework!! like lots and grades it tough! tests are not too difficult, but you will need to understand concepts.
His lecture are clear and he makes sure you understands the math problem. He is a great professor.
He is awesome! I am not a fan of math and passed his class with an A!! Do your homework and study for thee exams, you will be fine! He is pretty straightforward:)
Woodmansee gives clear instructions, provides lecture notes, and gave group work every class which strengthened student interactions. Is very considerate of student time, and is efficient. Not a single class felt like a waste of time. Encourages being informed, and genuinely cares about students' success.
I absolutely love professor Woodmansee, so far he's the only math professor I've taken. He really tries to understand why students make the mistakes they do corrects them. He's accessible for tutoring after school and is very patient, he doesn't rush you if you don't understand something. He has a nerdy caring personality, take him!!
Second semester with him, learned a lot both semesters. He is organized and clear about the subject.
Took this professor for Stat 300, worst instructor ever! Gives tones of homework, a million explorations, finishes study guides for exams not even a full 24 hours before you walk into the exam. Barely any lectures on material, spends class time going over explorations. Had to withdrawal from the course bc understood absolutely nothing on exam 2.
I had this professor my first semester at SCC and he was great.. I decided to take him again for STAT 300 and I do not regret my decision he is very caring and understanding. His grading is very clear and he is willing to help you if you're struggling.
I had this professor my first semester at SCC and he was great.. I decided to take him again for STAT 300 and I do not regret my decision he is very caring and understanding. His grading is very clear and he is willing to help you if you're struggling. The subject is hard itself.
He is the greatest professor Ive ever taken! I took two classes from him, one face-to-face and one hybrid class. There are a lot of works but if you get all of them done and keep following his lectures, you can easily get an A in his course! I would definitely recommend him for both Math and Stat classes.
Hands out so many papers and no one knows what they are doing. Even at one lecture he was confused with what he was saying. better off taking another professor, dont stress urself out with him
He gives us subsititues all the time and they don't teach or know how to do the lecture, then he refuses to go over that lecture that we didn't learn. Ignores emails and hands out many homework problems, but he never looks at it. He also doesn't finish his lectures and tells the class it's on you to learn it.
Do not, I repeat do not dare take him for stat300! He is the worst professor Ive ever had in my whole experience being at scc! He lectures about stuff that doesnt help prepare you for the test. Trust me you will begin his class confused and end his class even more confused. Doesnt care if his students pass! No one understands anything! Terrible!
He makes stats boring to learn and he Makes you wait over 30 min in his office hours, he gives us so many papers that no one understands because he writes the answer on the board and we copy it! He makes your life so much stressful then needed. Please save yourself and dont take him! I regret withdrawing! I really hate his attitude as well
Woodmansee is an okay professor if you like not knowing your grade until after the end of the semester, 5 + absences in a single semester, and unequal group project assigned work for each member then this professor is perfect for you. Only upside is that the dude is lenient, forgiving, sympathetic.
Hard tests, barely teaches, missed about 5 classes and has subs teach material that has nothing to do with the lessons and expects us to know everything before class. Spends most of the class time going over quizzes than the actual lesson. Makes you do homework online or textbook but never grades it. His test study guides have over 150 question.
This class was one of the hardest I've ever taken at SCC. He does not grade Homework and he has quizzes every week. The study guides for the tests were so unorganized and were over 150 questions. If there was a sub, the sub taught out of a different text book, that was not mandatory and mostly on topics we had not discussed at all. I could go on.
Terrible teacher!! gives a ton of homework, doesn't teach spends more than half of class taking about non math related stuff then will give an exam on it next day. you learn everything on your own and doesn't teach anything. DO NOT take
Expect 20 assignments every two days. It's a ridiculous amount of work, does not grade, rude when he emails back, it's not worth it especially if you work. Zoom meetings every day except one day out of the week. He really expects you to give your whole time to this class. Do not take.
Some of the concerns on here about Professor Woodmansee are completely valid. Yes, he does assign many assignments daily, yes, the exams are not easy, and yes, you will work very very hard in this class if you want a good grade. But it can be done with discipline. Hes tough but hes fair.
We're in a pandemic, he starts the 1st week w/ 13 assignments, 5 of which as useless "tell me about you" assignments in an 8 wk online class. The hmwk with 10 questions is closer to 60 because each question has multiple parts. Can't open assignments unless done in the order he wants. To make class normal, MUST do group work day after he opens them
Assigns 48q homework that has multiple breakdowns making it more than 48q for 10 pts/3000(class total) Must interact with groupmates to move to next assignment(during a pandemic nobody cares about creating fake class environment anymore) Due dates in 8 week class are 4x a week vs 2x listed on syllabus Doesn't require calculator but uses one in lect
Yes it's a hard class but reach out to talk to him. He will normally work with you very easily. Workload is HEAVY so stay on it, although with group work it's hard to fall behind. They are waiting on everyone's response to get the answer key.
Wish there was a 2000 char. limit. Explanations of the concepts aren't solid. Lectures are longer than necessary as he will always find something wrong with his example, resulting in him redoing them partway in. Does not slow down the pace of the course, adding in extra videos (30m-1hr each) if he goes past the allotted lecture time.
Find a different professor. Knowledgeable yes, helpful no. Passive aggressive responses at best. There were ?s on assignments not in lectures, ALOT. Excessive group work. Unreasonable amount of daily work, yeah, yeah 16 wks in 8 wks. Funny how other professors manage just fine without being excessive. Syllabus was not accurate. Now I dislike math.
Worst class ever. Contradicts information in the same video or the next video. Does not match requirements in lecture to book requirements for online assignments. Does not provide enough time to do test when each question has multiple parts. First class I have ever had to question my love of math. Was not helpful in getting additional help.
WOrst professor ever. Awful towards students, consistently rude, and is ready to argue and shut down students. Loads of homework are due every day, and zoom meetings are mandatory. Office hours are not available as he stated, " we don't get paid for after-hours/overtime hence no office hours." Avoid this professor at all costs.
Do not take this class if you do not have the time to dedicate to it. He mentions in week one how much time you need to dedicate to this class and he is not lying. The way he opens up assignments makes it hard to keep up with if you do not have a lot of time. I would stay up working on assignments until the literal time it was due.
Woodmansee cares a lot about the success of his students. I took his Freshman Seminar class because no other class fit with my schedule, but I got a lot of valuable information out of it. He has a robust understanding of the transfer program at SCC and can really help you if this is your first semester at college. He also allows late work.
Do not take this class, This professor is extremely disorganized and gets mad at you for not understanding his chicken-scratch canvas layout and sub-par assignment instructions.
Lots of homework
Gives an excruciating amount of homework to the point where you don't feel like you're learning anything because you just need to try to scramble to finish every asinine assignment. Like many other college students, I have other classes, obligations, and a full-time job. He seems to think stats should be every student's only priority.
He loves giving homework and be prepared to be printing a lot of papers that you don't even write on sometimes. If you don't go an iPad or something electronic to draw on, your printer will be going through it. It's a lot of HW and assignments that i feel like I'm not even learning, just trying to get the work done on time.
He was honestly really nice and understanding of situations but there was a LOT of homework and A LOT of tests/exams. Towards the end of the unit the stuff you're working on entails a serious amount of work to be shown and I kept running out of time on exams. I basically failed my final because I didn't have enough time.
If you already struggle with math to begin with and have a life outside of this class, avoid taking this professor at all cost. He is incredibly disorganized with how he posts on canvas, making it easy to miss assignments that are due. This class was extremely stressful at times and I needed a LOT of help to pass. I would not recommend him at all.
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!! There is too many assignments, you can't look at what you did wrong on tests. On exam days you will have a 70 question assignment due with 5 separate questions in each one. I took the online version and he locks the assignments until the day they are due. Save your money and stress and take another class.
Be prepared for a heavy workload with this professor. While the lectures can be hit-or-miss, using resources like Unstuckstudy alongside the textbook can really help you stay on top of the assignments. Just be sure to manage your time wisely.
If I had the money to post my review on a Billboard, I would. I can only recommend this class to someone who has no obligations, responsibilities, and is only taking one class. The professor, if he even deserves the title, is the worst professor I have ever taken. He is very disorganized, and you will be scrambling to finish assignments, avoid him.
Awful profesor, not understanding at all and overloads
Awful profesor, not understanding at all and overloads with homework. Doesn't understand the fact that we as students have other classes and responsibilities. You don't learn anything in his class all you do is try to do his homework just to get a grade. Do not recommend to anyone.
This online course is fine if you are not taking a lot of classes at the same time. I am only taking two other classes and it is still difficult. You are still bombarded by an absurd amount of homework, quizzes, etc. You will be dropped by him if you miss only two note assignments the whole semester which says a lot.
This class is a lot every week. I kept most of my stuff organized with adobe. ALL quizzes and exams are open book so not terrible in that department but It can be challenging. However to understand the material you do need a lot of information to complete the course.
Do not take this class unless you are a math major. This professor gives an insane amount of homework, grades extremely harsh, and expects you to put about 10 hour a week into his class between lectures and homework. You need to be proficient with google doc, excel, and DCMP tools are barely taught. This is NOT an intro to stat, avoid this class!!!
