She's really great. Really interesting and a fun class. Lot's of debate.
She is one of those professor that wants you to get that A! She is really so pleasent and such a beautiful women!
Took her during the winter. She is very straightforward. straight from her notes. shes very nice and easy going. her tests are easy and very straightforward, and doesnt trick you at all. her lectures can get boring at times, but her class is pretty easy.
I really liked her women in culture class. Shes really sweet and I thought she gave good notes . Also, gives study guides for what you needed to know on the tests. 2 midterms (1 short answer and the other essay)and a mult choice final, all not too bad.
Great teacher. Lectures are clear, she's obviously very caring. Had her for two short-semster classes. Take furious notes and you'll be all right.
Extremely straightforward teacher, doesnt want to trick students; All you have to do is take a lot of REALLY good notes and you will be fine.
Dr. Manoff teaches a very interesting class. To get a good grade in the class one must take a bunch of notes and read all assigned readings.
She's a pretty good teacher. My only complaint is that she goes too fast and my note-taking can't keep up, but that's not her fault: this class covers way too much material.
really good i love her way of teaching
She knows how to teach. She teachs well. Students worked hard, but her history class wasn't hard at all. Recommanded. Tale history with her in summer!
shes great! shes very passionate about her classes and womens issues. take the notes, go to class, you'll get an A. it was an interesting class and worth taking!
what a great lady!Very passionate, is open to opposing/new ideas, and is very understanding. The only thing is- sometimes certain people get to talk way more that they should. It seems as though she allows people to vent a lot, which gets annoying.
shes great. i loved this class and she is so passionate about womens issures she really makes the class enjoyable. i would recomend this to anyone. take this class! she is a really great teacher and wants you to do well. very helpful and the class was gr8
She's bored with teaching the subject and she passes it on in class. Whiny, rote lecturing from notes becomes annoying with time. But there are only 3 tests and no tricks. Take good notes and read the book and an A is yours.
Very nice. She is in the intrest of the class and eduaction for others. Take good notes and be willing to read and you will do better then good
Great teacher, Open minded and helpful. Takes out one on one time. MUST be an open minded person to take course... HIGHLY recommend this class w/ this professor.
Chill class, many discussions & current events. Great professor who enjoys her job. Take this class! You learn and have a great time.
She is so nice and funny. Very straight forward and doesn't try to trick you on the tests. Like going to her class.
Exellent teacher, Highly recommended. She really knows her history and is very passionate about it. She is a great woman she wants you to do good in her class and she will give u chances to make up or turn in late assignments. MUST TAKE
Manoff is the best teacher I've had at SMC. She's really fun and outgoing. Really knows her material and gives really easy tests. The books she makes you read are really good too! I would take her class if you can!
Pretty boring class. I showed up every day, but her lectures would put me to sleep. I would just stare at the clock. Somehow I still managed to write down everything she said while half asleep, and studied it the day before the test and got a B on all 4 tests.
She is great teacher. We learned so much abot history and life in general.I love her.I am taking another class with her.If you think she is boring, you haveto be apsolute idiot or you just do not care about anything. She makes it interesting and funny , she makes sure everybody is involved
manoff is just the nicest. however, the class wasnt that great.. kind of lost interest towards the end. i loved her though! really entertaining, passionate and very crazy. but lets face it, shes all over the place. its an easy A but its a lot of reading. a midterm and a final and they are both essa
she's so awesome..i encourage all the ladies to take a class with her, so knowledgeable and entertaining..yes sometimes people end up talking more than her, but besides that u will love the class..read while taking notes of everything from study guide..that's how i got an A
EASY TEACHER, BUT FORGETFUL.
Ricky is a fun teacher! Her lectures make you feel like you're listening to a sports comentator on history. The whole past comes to life in your head. I never wrote down any notes and got an A just by imagining her stories.
you have to be a COMPLETE moron to not get at least a "B" in this class. If you are a history major, I would suggest somebody else that asks more of you.
Manoff is a real chill teacher, lectures are kinda boring and her tests are kinda not on the easy side, but she will give you many chances to do well in her class. I highly recommend her for History Majors out there
So she is so funny, and basically makes the lectures interesting. She is like a hippy at times, and a wee bit Liberal but it was a great CLASS. Some of the tests are very repetative, and it seems a little unfair but overall the CLASS WAS GREAT! Dr. Manoff, is willing to make help you to do good
My most favorite professor ever!! She's the best teacher anyone could have asked for. She's hilarious, nice, understanding and interesting. She makes the class fun. You will not regret taking her for Women Studies. I absoluetly love her. She's not at all hard and she makes you want to go to class!
Shes a nice, easy teacher. However history is really boring, she tries her best to make it little more fun. Just take notes during lectures and study a lil bit.
Nice person, good teacher, motherly almost in her demeanor. I admire her intelligence and respct her values. She challenges your ideas and makes you look outside the box.
brings candy to class because people were falling asleep. reads from notes the whole class time but gives terms from chapter you need to know before we start the chapter so you can take your own notes and it helps to have two sets of notes
such a nice person to know. she is always there to help you. but not an easy class. lectures can become very confusing and difficult to follow through. but i recommand her if you really need to take this particular class.
fun teacher, kinda hyper though. Made us write four essays for midterm. I didnt take notes or read the book and got an A. She is a feminist and I recommend her class to both guys and girls. The class becomes a bit repetitive after a while.

love her class
The WOmen in American Culture is Awesome!!!
She's the nicest teacher ever!!!! Bring chewing-gum, make students laught...But she also makes students work, it is not so easy to get an A...
She seems really nice and very helpful too. She's also very funny...sometimes she act like a stand up comedian...especially when she talks about politcs and stuff like that. I'm really enjoying her class but I wouldn't racommend it to a guy....she sounds a lil rude to them lol
I am so glad I chose this class. The lectures are fun, interesting, and if she sees you starting to fall asleep, the whole class gets gum :) I highly reccomend her and am considering taking another class of hers if it's a part of the transfer classes...
Its hard to get an A, u have to study a lot !!!take good notes, and u will be fine
She is a great person. When I needed her to send me my grade, I could not believe how cooperative she was. But lectures can be very difficult to follow at times. As long as you ask questions in the class and make sure that you understand her notes, you should be doing fine in the class. Don't take test too easily but they're fair enough. fun class!
she is so nice to everyone and is always willing to help out. she is understanding and is willing to work around the classes needs. i probably would take her again if there was a class she was teaching that i needed. but i must say her lectures do get a little old.
I WANTED TO HANG MYSELF DURING HER LECTURES!! really nice lady tho. very motherly. 1 midterm 1 final..thats it. everthing is outta the book. EASY!
i thought she was really great. she is extremely nice and friendly. she only gives a midterm and a final & she will postpone the test if the class doesnt feel ready. i really liked her and i will take her again if i have to take another class like this one.
I love this women. her class is very interesting and the movies that watch are great with maybe the exception of one. She will definitely work with you on your grade she gives out tons of extra credit there is no way that you can fail this class she is really the push over ( not by me) n-e-ways I love her she rocks literally. She is really funny 2
She as one of the nicest teachers I EVER had!!! so understanding and caring!!! she really wants students to do fine!!! a good role model for all teachers out there!!!!=)
SHe is easy, but really boring, not helpful, and can't even answer some questions on the topic. Overall she's not that great of a teacher, but she is an easy A
if your in her scholars class she gives out alot of reading. you have to write a journal once a week about whatever you read or whatever you watch in class. shes a really good teacher. she has a midterm and a final. she grades alot on participation and attendance. she doesnt give out extra credit during winter or summer sessions.
funny, but really disorganized and not very challenging--and this was a scholars class. an easy A if that's all you care about.
She's an awesome teacher, helpful, kind, motherly, sweet, easy exams what more could you ask for?
TAKE HER TRUSTTTT ME!
this class is quite challenging...she has you do a lot of reading in the class and her final is quite difficult...i dont suggest taking her for womens studies...not a fun class because she doesnt tell you what to study for the test
First off, Ricky Manoff is a very beautiful woman. At least I thought so, Women Studies is a very interesting course for those of you who have questioned the difference between men and women, and have ever been called feminists. Take this class and take this professor because you will learn so many things from this class. Definitely men should take
She's not a very organized person, notes messy but you can always refer to the textbook for more info. Listen to her and take lots of notes and you should be okay. 3 exams plus attendance. Not a hard class but you need to study. You could get by with cramming the night before.
she is a very sweet teacher! really wat students to do fine... wish more teachers were as her!
I love this professor. If you're taking her because you took her women's studies/women's history class and assumed that her regular history classes would be as easy, don't! It's not as easy as those classes. Also, her history lectures can be quite boring sometimes; they are not as entertaining as her women's studies/history lectures.
I took this class for the summer. Dr. Manoff's interesting explanation helped me to like history. Her tests weren't easy. Pop quizzes randomly and you have to review your notes and remember inportant facts(not much dates) to do well in the quiz. NoTake good notes. She lets you eat. One extra credit essay. She recommended a lot of good history movie
sucks really boring not clear u got to work for the A but shes not very clear and super biased, favors girls over guys
I took her west civ 2 for summer. She was fun and friendly but she wasn't easy. Her tests were hard and if you review your notes everyday for the pop quizes, your grade will go down. Class is chill but need to take good notes. If you are lazy, don't take her. One extra credit essay which doesn't rly help. She answers ur Qs fully. Enjoyable&hard
Dont listen to the ratings. Theyre simply not true. Not a single thing taught in class was clear. Incomprehensible is being nice. Tests are easy if you share the same all-over-the-map style the class is taught with. I won't lie, shes very nice, but don't take her if wanting to learn from lecture. You wont understand. Textbook power, learned.
She not quite interesting, lectures can get pretty soporiphic and you better know your stuff indor for you to get this unreachable A! She gives 3 midterms and a final. And concerning the EC: are you trippin'?!!!
This teacher is REALLY nice. she makes the lectures kind of animated but is just repeating the book. Class is hard if hist is hard for you. 3 tests worth equal points and 25 points for attendance. Gives extra credit so easy a caveman could do it. i got an a and i'm really bad at history...def. recommend. if you get an 86 she'll give you an a.
This teacher is truly wonderful. I entered the class with the bottom ratings in my head, but they are all wrong!--- this teacher is very helpful, and will listen when you ask for help. She is clear and makes her lectures in a way so that you naturally listen and find it interesting (at least for me) I'm pretty sure I got an A in the class. Take it!
im taking her for summer right now and yes it is ALOT of readings and participation that you have to do. Theres journal due every wk and 2 exams so if u screw on exam u are screwed for the semester. i love her lecture and u MUST take notes. her tests are not as easy.. u must do all the reading.. there is a essay as well in the test.
Professor Manoff is a wonderful teacher, she truly knows the way to teach and help her students in anyway. she is a hardcore feminist and its absolutely delightful to go to her class everyday. her lectures are really interesting and something u already thought of at least once in ur life. shes awesome.. but not easy A. u must STUDY STUDY STUDY2getA
She's not easy A but you will be able to learn about women's freedom ALOT with her. Heavy amount of reading which is not that interesting. But you will never get an A if you do not buy the textbook or ignore readings. TXTBOOKS that she tells u to buy.. 3 books in total are MANDATORY. period.
not impossible but shes not easy.. shes laid-back. funny.. hilarious! but not easy A. one midterm. 1 final. many journals. i respect her so much, she is a true feminist wanting to do whatever she can to help women in our world. i loved her! shes AWESOME~ but u guys MUST work hard for it.. not EZ A..................
Her class is fun, exciting, and interesting. She's such a nice , caring lady. only thing about her class i dont like is that some ppl get to talk more then other ppl should.i mean she should give equal voices to all her students other than just 2 girls. they say the same thing over and over again.. TOO much.
Took her for the Summer; Notes are not on powerpoint. You have to be able to write the notes pretty quickly to keep up with her; 3 exams total and several pop quizzes; exams were not THAT hard
took her during summer. Her testings were the easiest ever as long as you read the book. If you study and pay attn in class, you'll notice her questions on tests are extremely easy compared to all the information the texts offer. Dont need to know dates, just the basics of all the materials. I passed with a high A. But you must read.
I must say, she is a wonderful professor but those two girls from Wisconsin during summer session of 08 were REALLY races against blacks and asians.. and it was funny because you learn about treating everyone equally in her class but those 2 girls would laugh at black girls and asian girls as soon as they step out of the class and BATHROOM
VERY SWEET AND HELPFUL.SHE IS ALSO VERY UNDERSTANDING.
SHE IS VERY UNDERSTANDING AND HELPFUL. YOU WILL LIKE HER.
NOT EASY A BUT CLASSMATES ARE PASSIONATE. SO IT IS NOT IMPOSSIBLE. I REALLY ENJOT THE LECTURE. YOU WOULD LOVE IT. SHE IS SO COOL AND INTERESTING SUBJECT TAKE IT!
LOVE LOVE LOVE HER! Awesome professor. Very passionate and sweet. Tests are not the easiest just study and you'll get an A. Easy grader on essays. Talks about everything in the book to help students understand (clarifies). Got me interested in Women's Studies which is now my major. Take notes during class and study you'll get an A!
She tries her very best to keep the class interesting and if her students keep the discussions lively, then it will be one of the most interesting classes. creates a fair environment for everyone. her tests are fairly easy if you study. not an easy A; you MUST study. ESPECIALLY for a winter session.
This teacher was GREAT!! Come to class/ read the book ; & you should atleast get a B in it. She gives a couple extra credit assignments (essays= 1-2pg double space). Tests are m/c; again if you read the material, 1-2 answers eliminated out of 'wrong' choices.. Also a european map to know by heart.. But you must read/STUDY- DUH!
a very good professor. class is interesting. learn a lot and love women studies after taking her class. take her class and you will love it too
Amazing Prof. Take her and your learn alot and have fun doing it. Assigns alot of reading, but if you pay attention and keep up with the work you will succeed in her class. Very passionate, funny woman. Highly recommend her!
I think she wrote these other comments herself - look at the dates! Class is dull because she cannot get conversations going, and she can never remember where we left off, speaks often of classes she teaches at other (better) school. Wants you to read a TON for WOMEN! "You do it for biology!" Memorize useless definitions.Feminist chip on her shldr.
amazing professor. interesting lecture. not hard. many extra credit. will learn something new
I got an A in her spring class by: going to class and taking notes, doing assignments in a timely manner, only reading the chapter summaries, and reading RCG mini essays. For her tests study class notes. Also one should be respectful and not talk amongst each other while she is in the middle of a lecture like some of the guys in my class.
professor Manoff was the best. Her lectures are the most interesting. She is very nice and makes hist fun to learn. I got an A and so can you just go to class and take lectures notes her test is her lecture beware you have to be a quick writer. take her she's really good!
Actually, i got "B" grade from this class, but i did every extra credit n i never late, so i talked to her by email about my grade. I ask her to read my final and other essay again, and finally she changed my grade "A". she is really nice unless u participate in the class, and do every work. I didn't read a book, but she will give you at least B
The most wonderful human being in the universe! I love Ms Manoff! Her class is so inspiring! She has great guest lecturers, awesome movies, and great short stories. Plenty of extra credit and easy exams. I feel like I'm a better person thanks to her. She truly transformed my life and I will never forget her. I LOVE MANOFF! Can't wait to take Hist52
GREAT PROF, KNOWS HER STUFF, AND FUN. I GOT THE HISTORY 52 BOOK 4 SALE. [email protected]
Interesting class. Personable professor. Lots of articles and chapters assigned, but easy *if you read*. Her lectures are insightful and informative. She addresses many perspectives (yes, feminism is not monolithic!) and always adds humor. Manoff really shattered some of my preconceived notions about this class. Take her!
Professor Manoff lectures for this class in a story-like manor. Although it can be quite boring & dreary at times her lecture notes, if taken correctly, are all one presumably needs to receive an A in her class. Additionally, her test questions are far easier than the material from the book and the material from class lecture. Easy class, take her
Amazing professor, knows what shes talking about and has a passion in her words. Not very easy, you will have to study but learn the key words for the test. Took the Summer session and it was great. Ended up with an A, Thanks Manoff!
Amazing teacher. Your textbook will be your best friend!!! 3 exams and 2 connect the dot assignments. Her class is all about lecture and taking notes but she's really funny and cute. Exams are not hard, she doesn't try to trick you. All you have to do is read your book and take notes + review and you'll get an A.
She is very funny, has a unique way of telling the stories of history and making it come to life. She does have a feminist chip on her shoulder that sometimes biases her a little too much, but it is well worth it. She may seem a little hard-line, but she is a sweetie underneath. She knows her stuff, and she is well worth it! Winter semester=work!!
The best, passionate, funny, and very knowledgable. 4 tests, she gives a study guide for each and lectures on majority of what is on there. Key terms are a must and you read 2 short books which are very interesting. If you do the work and study easy A.
She's funny, kind, approachable, and helpful. However, it's hard to stay awake in class sometimes at 8am. Her ONLY style of teaching is lecture - no group projects, activities or movies. She's very unorganized - seems overwhelmed. Few quizzes, 3 tests, no "final". Gives extra credit if the class needs it. Go to office hours to show you care.
This women's history class is so interesting. Great for people who like history or women's studies..great combination. Very friendly and knowledgeable professor. 3 exams and 3 short written assignments and extra credit opportunities. Need to keep up with the textbook reading.
She's great! Had her for women's history in the U.S. I pretty much got through the semester without reading the textbook, although you'll need it for assignments. Don't miss class because she goes over a lot of things and take good notes. She's funny and cares about her students. I recommend taking her.
Really enjoyed this class! Prof. Manoff is very funny and she makes learning History a bit more fun! If I had to take another Hist class, I would take her again! She gives 3 tests, some quizzes, and even E.C. if the class really needs it. Take really good notes in class because most of the test material is from her lectures!
Fairly easy class. It is pure lecture, and can get pretty boring. Provides valuable extra credit opportunities. Her tests are pretty straight-forward if you use the study-guide. Teacher seems unorganized, and the syllabus was incorrect or lacking information on a couple of counts. Seems like she has a lot on her plate; I think she teaches elsewhere
I love Manoff! Really helps you to look at things in a diff perspective. Read 2 short books & do a little book work. The tests (3) are pretty easy espec if ur good at essays. Also get 2 use a notecard. I only used my book for the 3 ctd assignments & got A's & B's on all tests. Take good notes bc tests are lecture based. Very sweet, funny & helpful.
Great Teacher! If you're taking WS10, she definitely will open your eyes to what's happening when it comes to discrimination against women. Tests are pretty hard but you get extra credit work. Lectures are exciting as she makes the dry material funny and personal as she talks about her life and how it goes with the subj. talked about.
This is a great teacher . I took Women Studies from her and she made the class interesting and informative so much better than the book. She's funny and engages the class this class opened my eyes to the importance of feninist thought and issues
AMAZING. TAKE HER. My favorite teacher after two years at SMC. Also took her history class. Very easy tests, very interesting lectures, very sweet personality. VERY possible to get A if you go to class and take notes. Lots of extra credit.
I would have to say she is an amazing professor who is very passionate about the subject she teaches. I learned so much in her class and I still even think about it time to time. It's not about how easy or how hard the class is but how well this professor makes her students engage into the subject. I took her for scholars ws10 during summer and I had the best time learning from her. Truly inspirational.
One of the best prof in SMC! Very helpful, very interesting, very sweet, and VERY funny. Always looked forward to coming to her class, make sure you talk to her after class or at her office hours! 3 connect the dots, 2 exams and 1 final. IF you listen in class and write notes or highlight and just understand the material and you'll pass.
One of the best professors at SMC. Made every lecture interesting and encouraged me to become a women studies minor. Very helpful. Assignments are always interesting and self explanatory. I'll never forget this class. Definitely take her!
Class is boring. All it is just lecture. She talks for the whole class. really felt like sleeping. However her tests are straight from book and she grades easily on essays. Multiple choice is easy. Take it for a gpa booster
Professor Manoff is the absolute best! I took her for WS 10 scholars in the summer and I really enjoyed going to class. She really makes sure every student is engaged in the material. Awesome class, highly recommended!
Nice lady, but not a good teacher. Her quizzes were very easy, but her midterm was very hard because she screwed me over and didnt tell us what we were supposed to know. She said there would only be an essay, but then she gave a whole bunch of multiple choice questions.I dont recommend her at all!!!
She is suppper nice! I took her class about 2 yrs ago. Very clear on what will be on the exams. Showed videos in class to help understand the material that we were learning. She's very knowledgeable in her field. I'd def recommend taking her, plus she makes the material extra interesting :)
Very nice lady. A very helpful instructor. I took her over winter and pulled off a B with minimal effort. 3 tests and no homework. Straight forward on the material, study hard and you should not have a problem.
Very intelligent and is willing to answer questions. Reads directly off of her notes, however, so it can get very dry. Keep up with the reading and notes as there are weekly quizzes. Tests are pretty straightforward. I'm a History major and got an A, so she has my approval.
shes sooooo EASY! show up to all her lectures, read and you'll be fine for all her exams. final not accumulative. shes very nice and helpful. totally RECOMMEND HER!
Great teacher. Assigns a lot of reading, but if you pay attention and keep up with the work you will succeed in her class.
I took her class at 8am in the morning so it was naturally hard to stay awake. She talked for the hour, take good notes from her lecture. Attendance is mandatory but she is very understanding, I exceeded the maximum # of absences to be in the A range but she was willing to help me out. Show her you are willing to work hard and you will be rewarded.
Awesome teacher! She's interesting, intelligent and funny. If you pay attention in class and do the readings, you can definitely get a good grade. But aside from grades, this class changed my perspective on life- the material was very thought provoking. I recommend this class to EVERYONE- all genders.
I took her for women studies10 as well. She is an amazing professor! Hist2 is boring but if you ask for help she is more than willing. She gives quizzes that are help with the midterm & final.
this class changed my life. this is one of the best classes i have ever taken at SMC. great teacher, important material. everyone should take this class!
Loved professor Manoff! There is A LOT of readings, so make sure you don't leave them for last minute. She always makes herself available, if you ever do need help understanding them. Take advantage of the extra credit she offers! Overall, an amazing class!
One of the best classes I've ever taken! Professor Manoff is super sweet and hilarious. This is an incredibly important class for both men AND women. The class is discussion based and super interesting! There are a few pop quizzes and tests are usually essay based. Do the reading! Get every textbook. You will absolutely love this class!!! :D
She's a great professor who handles the subject well. The exams are pretty easy as long as you keep up with her readings. Definitely one of my favorite professors at SMC. Keep up with the readings and stay on top of the assignments and you'll get an A.
The exams can be tough but if you pay attention and take notes in class and keep up with the readings you should be fine. She usually gives a decent amount of quizzes but only gave our class two. Just put in effort and you'll get at least a B. Really nice professor and definitely recommended for History 2 and the other courses she teaches.
Amazing teacher I took her for her summer class, this teacher is extremely nice. lectures can be very boring however she gives a detailed study guide on what to go over. The final was given as a choice between multiple choice or essay. Just keep up with the reading and you should do well. Show up to class, she takes roll.
The three books you need for this class, plus an online magazine will be necessary to have in order to pass this class! This teacher is awesome! She really knows her subject well and is in no way boring! Participation matters because she lectures with the chapters she gives you to read and expects you to know material! I advise to take!
very clear and funny professor. she is a fair grader. take her class..
She's really nice and considerate. You do have to keep up with the reading in order to get an A in the class.
Since I'm the first one who rates her for History 12, I would definitely not recommend this class to those taking that course. She takes a whole week to respond to emails. Not clear on what she wants. Grading scale is messed up. Incredibly dry and boring. Exams are MCQ only and she does not discuss so you will not know where you actually went wrong
Love, love, love her! She's amazing. Her lectures never bored me and everything was so interesting. Her quizzes and tests are extremely easy. The homework is minimal and just a simple paragraph on what we read. Honestly just show up and listen, bring your computer, write notes, read the readings, and you're good to go. Super easy and fun class.
3 non culmative tests and 5 quizzes. Gives extra credit. Her lectures are somewhat useful. Very relatable and friendly professor. Read the book and you'll be fine.
I wouldn't recommend her for HIST12. She reads a lot from her notes and often can not answer questions. Tests are confusing but she gives extra credit and she is also helpful. Not a diffcult class but confusing and boring. Geat ready to read a lot.
Good professor but lectures are repetitive sometimes.
She absolutely does not care for students or their goals. Harsh grader. Talks highly about feminism in her class but constantly uses students weaknesses against them. Spot quizzes! Teaches well but talks down to students. Never makes time outside of class to go over your concerns. I'm a straight A student & she's by far the worst prof. I've had!
The class was very interesting but, her grading is weird.
I took Professor Manoff for her Summer Scholars course. She is incredibly funny, and really loves class participation. Do the reading! Her tests and quizzes are based straight from them. I was scared before I took the class because I thought it would be boring, but it turned out to be one of the best classes I ever have taken.
I also took Professor Manoff during the Summer (Scholars). I really enjoyed taking her Women's Studies class. She's a hilarious and an understanding professor. We had an amazing guest speaker too. The class has lots of reading but they are interesting. Also, the class is only 100 points. The midterm is 30 points and the final is 40 points.
She could be on the boring side as far as lectures go. All her lectures are just her reading out of the book so if you just read the book and don't go to class or vice versa you'll know the material, but she does grade on attendance so i wouldn't miss too many classes.
Never responds to emails, disorganized, talks down to students, EXTREMELY UNENTHUSIASTIC. She will sit down and stare at her hands during the entire lecture and gets angry at us when we don't share her (lack of) enthusasiam. She changes the format of the test when she gets mad at us and tries to trick us intentionally on the quizzes. AVOID AVOID
Do not take this professor. please! she keeps changing her mind about everything in the course of the class, she is not on top of it, she is not clear. i really don't understand how she has so many great reviews. her class is so boring, she is so not organized that it drives me crazy, and she treats the class as if it's ochem. it's only women st!
She's a great person. Very funny and delightful to talk to. Her teaching on the other hand is mediocre. She switches up the syllabus multiple times throughout the semester, making it confusing for the whole class. She takes a very long time to grade tests and doesn't post scores online, leaving you in the dark regarding your grade.
She lectured the entire class every class. She said all you needed to study was the powerpoint slides but I studied those and the textbook and still did not do well. Test questions were worded to trick the student. I did not have an enjoyable class time. One positive is she does help in office hours so go and ask a ton of questions, that might help
This class is an easy A but you would have to do your own reading. She provides study guides on canvas. Our first test was bad so she changed it from MC to essay format, where she gives a topic from each chapter. You must do the source analysis. There are 3 exams & 3 source analysis papers. Just a warning: the class is a bit boring. So be prepared.
She seems like a nice person, however she's an awkwardly inarticulate teacher, where instead of clarifying critical concepts, she merely confuses students further, for she lacks brevity when it comes to teaching. In addition, the text she uses is the most dreary and colorless history book I've EVER read - and I love reading more than anything.
Professor Manoff is very knowledgeable and passionate about her work. When I had trouble with an assignment, I could rely on her to help me. She is a very caring professor. Although some assignments were somewhat difficult, they helped me grow, I became a much better writer because of professor Manoff! Take her class, you will not regret it!
Professor Manoff is hands down the best professor. I could have gotten an A but I slacked off on some of the reading. However the reading is pretty straight forward, and she explains the historical events like if she were telling a story. You are more than welcome to ask her questions during break or before class. Oh, she offers extra credit too.
Honestly, the only way to NOT get a good grade in this class is to not show up to lecture. She gives pretty great study guides before tests and is clearly very passionate about history. I didn't bother buying the (inexpensive) textbooks and studied maybe twice a week for the class. Bottom line: she's a great choice.
Smart lady who really cares about what she's teaching. Doesn't pressure you to feel any kind of way, merely suggests alternate viewpoints.
Prof. Manoff is a great women's studies teacher. Her class is very easy if you do the reading and show up to class. The books and articles she assigns are very interesting and easy to get through. Her class depends on 3 tests and a few writing assignments so you must do well on the tests to get an A
Knows her stuff and is extreamly knowledgeable in her feild of study. Unfortunately she is often late for class (verying from 5 as late and 20 min), will submit grades later then usual (a month to submit a gade on a 1 paragraph assignment), and will often
Professer Manoff was one of my first professers at SMC and it was a very knowlegable class. Her class is very simple and is all explained in the syllabus. DO the readings or you will not pass this class. She is very open to helping and assisiting students so please visit her office hours. You can easily pass if you do the readings :)
Just know everything. Read everything, understand/memorize main points in slides and book, try to stay one step ahead of her if she decides to quiz you one day. Her class is easy that way. Whats bad is that she tries to trick you in tests by putting things she didn't go over or things she briefly mentioned. So pay attention in class!
She is an amazing professor and although she was late to some classes she knew her subject and is passionate about teaching this class. She is very sweet and caring to all her students and cares about her student's grades. She had a guest speaker come in to talk about domestic abuse and her own story on surviving abuse.
Took a class in summer, Shes is great. She understands her subject and teaching material well, able to pass right information to students. Amount of reading is still okay with as long as you read consistently throughout the semester. Participation is important!
Absolutely loved this class. History is usually incredibly boring, but she made me want to listen. She knew a lot of information and was very helpful. Plus, she's super funny and kind.
Professor Manoff respects everyone's answers and questions so it's easy to open up when answering questions. She's clear about grading and will remind you about homework before it's due. She is also more lenient than other professors about turning in homework on time. Her lectures changed my life and I'm so thankful to have taken her class!
Professor Manoff has been truly helpful and her class was beyond amazing and inspiring, I recommend taking her class.
Very lovely professor! The topics she discusses are always interesting and she is so easy to talk to. 2 exams, the homework mostly consists of writing a paragraph, and the final is an essay. She is also super understanding and an easy A!
I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Professor Manoff's class. She made lectures interesting and actually enjoyed listening to students' opinions and ideas. She is very understanding and kind, and I always felt comfortable going to her when I had an issue with an assignment. I would 100% recommend taking one of her classes.
Great professor.
Professor Manoff was not really present in the class, and it felt more independent as assignments opened up as the weeks progressed. Much of the assignments were just discussion posts, check-ins, and quizzes. I enjoyed the material and found it to be quite easy, except for LOTS of reading. She makes the final which I thought was nice of her!
This course is not too difficult and requires a good amount of reading. You are expected to buy an expensive textbook and attend Zoom lectures which I didn't enjoy and left me unmotivated, but if this teaching style works for you then I would recommend this teacher as she encourages discussion and and is understanding.
This was a pretty easy class. Lots of reading is required. Weekly check-ins, weekly inquisitive (must buy a textbook online); four 1000-word essay discussions on the textbook. She is a harsh grader on the discussion posts so make sure your response is nuanced and extensive. Other than that, this is a CHILL class, I highly recommend it!
Professor Manoff's WGS10 class was an engaging experience. The lectures were interesting, and she encouraged lively discussions. While the textbook was mandatory, Unstuck study proved a helpful study tool alongside the readings. Overall, an insightful class with a fair, understanding instructor.
She's super sweet and I learned a lot. I recommend taking her class and I wish I participated more because she's passionate about what she teaches. Keep up with the easy quizzes and reading and slide shows and you'll do great. She's so sweet and easy going, take her!
Professor Manoff was okay, did not like that the class consisted of pure lecture. Class is just her reading off long powerpoints or going off topic about current political events. If you're a self learner you'll do just fine but if you need a professor who explains and goes into detail take someone else. Midterm and final were in class essays.
The worst professor who does not value student growths nor commitmments. Class very vague, unstructured, reads off from ppt. You gain nothing from this course from a professor who does not value teaching, who cant teach, and who seems to have no knowledge in history or interest in helping you out regarding course contents.
Still in class with Prof. Manoff this semester, but she is honestly the best lecturer I've ever had. Everyone in class is on the edge of their seats listening to her passion. She makes people want to participate and is great at facilitating in-class discussion. So far, very light workload. Highly recommend.
Professor Manoff was a great professor, very understanding and passionate about history. Made the class engaged and overall answered any questions.
Never finished her slides on class because they were so many and full of copy-pasted text which she just reads off of for 1 hour.
I adored this class as a I was able to express myself and advocate for others based on our gender, sex, ethnicity, and race which not only improved my intelligence about what's going on around us but as well improving my skill with my political sensibilities. I recommend it as it is a safe place to express ourselves no matter where we come from.
Dr Manoff taught a great class this past spring semester, having amazing lectures and discussions. Tip: Participate and go to lectures, she will deduct points if you miss. If you love history, Dr Manoff is super knowledgeable and the professor for you. Remember, it's a college history class so there will be a LOT of reading. Amazing reads though!
I did not learn anything. Kind of an easy A until the essay part which dropped my grade to a B at the end. Requires those completion assignment things until you "get it right" and it's connected to canvas but from a different website. I did it all ahead of time too which makes me sad I got that B. Did not prepare well for that mandatory essay.
