I really REALLY hated this teacher. She is VERY inflexible so if you can't make it on a test day you're screwed. She makes the entire class sit in a huge circle everyday and expect group exercises every class period. SHE DOES NOT REVIEW FOR TESTS!!! If you have a large vocabulary don't use it on test essays or she'll dock you. Weird I know.
she is not open other opinions even if she asks for yours. i would not take her class if you are looking for an easy teacher. she is not clear with what she says about due dates or how things will be laid out for the class. overall, i would not recommend her for art history.
worst history teacher....ever
I have to defend Bagnole a bit, because even though her lack of lecture capability got in the way of learning a bit, she's a very nice woman. It was not impossible to achieve a A-B. Her tests are a little tricky, but honestly she quite enjoys teaching and started introducing interactive concepts with my class that helped it along.
Excellent critical thinking questions. She asks us to read short articles and find answers to her questions. I like her. She is creative and tries to make the information interesting.
she is opened to other opinions and makes her students feel important. I took notes during her lectures and got an A in the class. I like her because she is honest in her opinion and fair in grading. I will take her again.
She is impossible to understand. But, she can be funny at times. Class is pointless, go to sleep and study the book and you'll be fine.
I enjoyed her class. I learned a lot and she gave good advice for my paper. I will take her again. My roommate likes her too.
online class is very good.
Professor Bagnole is with us in France. SUPER
Very insensitive. She gave me grief for missing class because of a death in the family. Likes youtube in presentations a lot, and chooses really boring videos! The ones anyone was actually interested in she would stop midway! Made 20th a chore. Her accent's a bit difficult too. Work is easy, but more chores!
overall good, she kept me interested, she has a cute accent.
Professor Bagnole, thank you for the great class. See you in Savannah.
I stay up all night reading the assignments and enjoy every minute. The discussions in this class are interesting and I like to have all my classes like this one. Professor Bagnole assigns many writing assignments from readings and visiting lecturers. All are good though. This class is what I call a graduate level class.
Take her class.
Good.
Bagnole likes to spend time on discussion. She obviously likes teaching but I am still worried about her grading. I will rate her again when I get my grade.
Excellent class with a good pace. Other than the tiresome but required art journal assignment which was really helpful, there was also a lot offered in extra credits. Exams are relatively based on your familiarity and not mere memorization - which is a plus
Treats students like they are in high school; pushing incessant and useless group work in class among many others. Course was an extreme waste of time, especially on the art notebook where half your grade is how much money you spend on the quality of the book. Seems like she's trying to be the studio teacher she was never good enough to be?
Good class to take if you hate tests. You have four but they're really easy and don't require memorization. The art journal is a bit boring and worth a lot, so make sure you put some effort into it. I love Bagnole's accent and humor she likes to throw in here and there. Lots of extra credit opps too!
Course was such a waste of time! Spending an entire class learning how to use the library in a 200 level course. Lot of grammar problems because english is not her native tongue. Forces you to be creative (all in her box, of course) on a notebook. Don't take her!
Currently in her class, learning more from Wikipedia stubs and outside textbooks from her class--barely goes past the material learned in Survey II.
This teacher is not bad as they said. Some of my classmates were chocked because they did not get the grades they expected.
The information I learn in this class is all new and I enjoy it. The Journal is a lot of work but I started doing two pages after each class. She gave me an A.
Seems like she's bitter that she was never a studio prof, because she forces students to be "creative" in the journal required in the class, and downgrades if it isn't quite what she is looking for. She is very unclear and even DOWNGRADES you if you use a good vocabulary in her essays because she doesn't understand English properly. Avoid.
Feels like some awful high-school class, only covers the popular artists, lingers on repetitive youtube videos that waste time. It'd be a great class if you've never heard of such obscure artists as Picasso and Van Gogh. Sarcasm. Get it? Least challenging + greatest time waste of a class I've ever taken.
She is awesome! she is enthusiastic about teaching and her class is absolutely my style. I loved making the journal she required and will keep it forever. I want to take another class with her and my boyfriend will be in her class in the fall.
Waste of time and money. After the mandatory teacher evaluations she had us complete, my grade dropped about 8 points because I was honest on mine. Covers only popular/mainstream artists, (i.e. pop art = warhol, lichtenstein, johns). watch a ton of youtube videos you could find on your own. text book was used for less than half the class.
I decided to add art history as a major because of this class. This professor covered some interesting artists and made it clear that art history can be fun. I learned a lot from the documentaries and interviews she showed in class and the essays she asked us to write for exams.
I had her in Lacoste. She asked a new useless question every day, like "What do you think is ugly?" & you would think she'd turn around and relate that to art, but no. Learned nothing in this class. Required journal is a waste of time. She may like it one day, and hate it the next. Plays favorites, hates film students. I really want my money back.
Treasures of Provence has been the most involved, hands on, active, and successful AH class I've ever taken. I have expanded thoughts, challenged materials, and explored in all the projects. The experimental nature of the class has pushed other students to think about their ideas.Resulting in progressive, collaborative lectures and conversations.
She really forces everyone to think. Thinking means doubting, analysing, searching, planning, conversing, expanding. And this is what Rihab has promoted. It's how things are made, how change is created. Communicating the energy of thought. And communicating thoughts is so important for us to be able to do as artists. She is a truly wonderful woman.
Throughout the quarter, there has been so much learning on how to articulate conceptual ideas through visual and three dimensional art and how to truly support your stance and what you believe in. Rihab has been so encouraging, supportive, and spot on! She really wants each and every student to be aware, concious, and relate personal ideas to the t
Rihab is a good listener, is easy to talk to and a free thinker which promotes learning and strong student teacher relationships. Being so immersed in her teaching and Lacoste has expanded my notions and has challenged my ideals. Rihab has allowed for my creativity to blossom and expand in ways that I could have never anticipated from an AH class!
If you want to actually learn some Art History, DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH PROF. BAGNOLE! However, if you want to make a scrapbook and have a "magical transformation" - please sign-up.
If you want to actually learn some Art History, DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH PROF. BAGNOLE! However, if you want to make a scrapbook and have a "magical transformation" - please sign-up.
This class was one of my best ever. I was allowed to research a topic I enjoy and create a journal about my experience in France. I am taking this professor again in the fall. Rihab's teaching style is what I've been looking for to grow artistically and conceptually.
I had this professor last winter. She was a pleasure to learn from. She knows the information she is talking about, and is extremely intelligent. She focuses on the significance of the work rather than facts such as title and materials. I learned from the readings and the video clips she showed in class.
Professor Bagnole is an A teacher!
Bagnole is my favorite professor at SCAD. She helped finding a topic for my paper and answered my emails quickly. I will take another class with her because I like her teaching style.
She is interesting. We had a choice to do an art journal or take the tests. The journal was not as easy as it sounds. She expects you to really read through the book and compare and contrast works of your choice and really prove that you understand the material. It's nice that she gives you a choice. The research paper is easy. She's ok.
I like art history and I like Bagnole as a teacher. She knows her stuff and I personally like her clothes. All of us learned how to write a research paper in Chicago style and I like her teaching style. Take her class if you want to learn something.
A wonderful lady who is passionate about her subject. She wants everyone who comes into her class to leave with at least an appreciation of Modern Art if not love it. She's very understanding and really wants students to talk to her. If you choose the journal, don't take it lightly--It is a LOT of work. I'd absolutely recommend her to anyone.
The best art history class at SCAD. I learned a lot and liked her lectures. I learned research and writing because of her assignments. I recommend her and like her teaching style a lot.
Lack of Clarity
If you love submitting homework only to find that your professor would like for you to add more questions to your already completed Essay just to get the same grade you already earned then this is the class for you!!! :D Also I agree with others about how unclear this woman is. Also gets upset if you ask her questions.
Its amazing how an art teacher can be so rigid. Her lack of creativity explains the way she grades. Grading on improper italics and paragraphs when she doesn't even proofread her sentences. Its amazing how teachers like this can be hired to teach at the graduate level.
I want to give this professor a fair review. I had this professor for an online class this summer and was the best online class I ever had. She graded and commented quickly on our assignments and posted challenging topics. I asked her about her other classes because I will take her again.
She is one of the best teachers I have had so far. I learned so much with her and I highly recommend her. She gives essay exams for midterm and final. Not hard if you study. I recommend her.
She is so enthusiastic, DO NOT do her journal. The essay is a joke, one written page and she grades it easily, people spend hours on the journal and get C grades. She is fun and loves conversation, her accent is a bit strong at first but she's a good teacher!
It was the best class I took in SCAD so far. Prof. Bagnole is very passionate in teaching and she is knowledgeable. The class is discussion based so its chill and fun. For test, you are not require to memorize anything particular, but as long as you understand class materials, you will easily pass. I actually was always inspired in her class.
Professor Bagnole was an all right professor. I felt that her opinion influenced her teaching a lot, especially if she didn't like it. She was nice, helpful, and graded work easily. She was definitely passionate about modern art. The textbooks are kind of hard to sift through, though. I wouldn't really look to take her again.
If you like reading about theories, and not actually studying art, you'll like her. If you're like me, and was hoping to get some inspiration for my own artwork, run away. She's not clear. "Essays" are 2-page gibberish due weekly that wastes your time. No guidance. No encouraging of ideas. Her opinion shapes your grade. Didn't like it.
For some strange reason this year she's changed her course structure. Throughout the 10 weeks you are required to read a senseless amount of text from a newly assigned book filled with artists' opinions and writings just so you can find two quotes to use on the essay test. Not worth my time. Plus she likes to assign homework AFTER you left class.
This professor is honest and clear. All the documents are on blackboard and they cover all the assignments. I like the concepts discussed in the readings and in class.
This is one of the best courses. I learned a lot about contemporary art. Through my own research and the help of the teacher I applied the concepts I learned to my thesis project. The teacher was very helpful and challenged me to think more critically about art and the role of the artist. In short both the class and teacher were inspiring.
If you are not a writer, DO NOT take this class. She is very smart in the way she goes about teaching: you don't know something if you can't write about it. All her tests (only 3 of them) are essay and there is a presentation that she is very lax about on one of your papers. Very kind soul, loves class participation and people who are honest.
Professor Bagnole is one of those rare professors that really truly cares about her students and her passion for 20th century art. She wants her students to succeed and helps them understand the course every step of the way.She is a wonderful person at heart and so fun to listen to in class.Even at an 8am I thoroughly enjoyed her class!!!
She picks on students during class. Her lectures are extremely boring. Avoid taking this teacher!
Cool Professor. If you do the work you will pass. 2 exams open book that are only composed of 2 essays. 1 research paper. 1 field trip paper. and the midterm conference was a grade. She is a good teacher just a lot of writing and medium level of reading. Not a hard class
I have learned a lot from her. She encouraged me when I had a personal problem.
if art history is not something that interest you, than passing in her class is extremely difficult.
Best professor ever! She is extremely nice and patient. I highly recommended you to take her class.
She's a kind woman who talks during the entire class but also encourages class discussions- she's a doll. Her course is easy, for Survey II we wrote 3 essays for the quarter, one page over one art work. You have one ppt, I did mine during the 10 min break b4 it was due and got a 100! I'm taking her again for 20th century- her class is stress free!
She only had 3 tests for the whole quarter, and she would let you know what pieces were going to be on it beforehand. It's a good idea to be there for the lecture because she'll mention things not in the book. If you put effort in it's not too bad.
In Bagnole's class, we have intellectual conversations about art and artists in history that it makes me forget that I am attending class. She opened my eyes and changed my perspective on how I see the beauty of grotesqueness in modern art. Not only is she a compassionate teacher, she is a person that makes you appreciate art from all aspects.
Professor is friendly and engaging. I recommend her class and will take her again.
She is super sweet, funny and knowledgeable on the subject matter. I took her for survey 2 and would definitely take her again. We only had 2 tests and one presentation. Everything else grade wise is participation.
She is great. Her lectures are not boring and she wants her students to care about art history. The exams are written essays, so you don't have to memorize a ton of dates. Just make sure you can write a good essay. Class was fun and inclusive. Would absolutely try to take her again for more art history classes.
Very easy. Only three major assignments total and they're all essays. Also a small PowerPoint presentation that should be easy for anyone who's passed Middle School. Read the text book, take lots of notes during lectures, STUDY EVERYTHING, and it should be an easy A. She's also very nice.
Do NOT take her. She is constantly contradicting herself, one of those professors who believes their class is the only class you have. If you have a make-up class or field trip she wouldn't allow you to miss it even for work. I heard she was good for Surv II but that's pretty much it. Don't take her for any other class .
Not the prof I would recommend, she forced you to go to 2 field trips and has the last 3 classes taken down and replaces them with fridays when it's just work that can be easily done during regular hours. She also decides to count those last three days as regular classes on blackboard, so automatic absence if you miss the work 3 extra classes.....
Bagnole is an amazing professor, she keeps you interested in each piece of art work and she goes over everything the tests will be on. she is wicked easy and I would recommend her to anyone, I took her 3 times and she loves to create relationships with her students and is not out to give anyone a bad grade, just show up and do minimal studying.
Hard to understand in many cases. Not very straight forward. If you get frustrated with being unable to fully comprehend what a professor is trying to get across stay far, far away.
From my experience in her class she seems to be a feminist. She tends to favor the girls over guys and often resorts to calling them out on things. She does not have clear grading criteria but will use some random criteria she made up off the top of her head to grade your papers and tests.
Professor Bagnole is an absolute sweetheart. She is so passionate about art history and about her students as artists. Every lecture was engaging and I always looked forward to her class. Two tests (essay tests), an essay, and a field trip paper.
She was really sweet and fair. You will have two essay test where you can use your textbook and graded field trip. She is very helpful and cares a lot about her students.
I have never, and probably will never enjoy another Art History class as much as I have enjoyed Rihab Bagnoles. She really is a sweet heart, she listens to the different views of each students opinion of the iconic pieces we discuss in class and offers thoughtful inspiration. You may not enjoy art history much but you will enjoy being in her class.
2 tests and all of the information you need is given. One short oral presentation and a few field trips. Super easy and lots of fun in the lectures. We would watch tons of videos which made the class more bearable.
Best professor for Art History. Her discussions are highly engaging and she is very encouraging . Good assignments, great feedback. She notices your work and the efforts you put in. An excellent choice for any student!
The best professor during my time at SCAD! such an honor learning form her and her enthusiasm about life and her willingness to learn and share the wonders of art history! I went from an F to an B in her class. She evokes that spark of energy that allows you wanting to work hard and learn and discover.
She just recently decided to completely change how she teaches her class and for a while it was very confusing. Her tests are ok and easy if you pay attention but overall it's a pretty pointless class. She isn't always clear and expects you to be completely caught up on blackboard for projects
Dr. Bagnole expects you to work hard, but if you do, she's your BFF. She is funny, kind, and very knowledgeable. One of the best professors I have had at SCAD.
I had this teacher twice and I will enroll again in her classes. I like her lectures and the group projects. Her topics are motivating and fun.
Shes kind of a mess. She stretches school rules and forces student to pay for expensive field trip activities that will really hurt you if you dont go. Work is not an excuse. Being sick is not an excuse. Other class field trips you have on the same day are not an excuse. Shes very particular about being right and its her opinion or an F.
This woman should not be teaching. The essays are impossible. The prompts are confusing and you have to memorize them before the in-class test essays. You'll end up studying the prompt harder than the actual information. You're also expected to memorize the bibliography for the textbook for some odd reason. Absolutely awful.
Just bad. Lectures are confusing and just drama on the artists rather than information on actual movements. Essay prompts arent clear and she acts passive aggressive in emails. Makes you pay for a mandatory field trip your arent guaranteed to attend. Not recommended at all.
Helpful and caring for her students. Her lectures are organized and creative. I like her teaching style.
Her quizzes are impossible. After giving your oral presentation she will tell you everything you did or said incorrectly in front of the class. She grades your notebook that you take notes in and it has to be "creative". She makes you pay for field trips as well and they are graded.
I had a good experience in her class. She is passionate and helpful. Art history is her field and she makes it interesting. Her assignments are easy because they are mostly group projects. I got an A and earned a lot.
BRUH. This straight up may have been one of the worst professors I have ever taken. 1. She has an accent. This makes it somewhat difficult to understand her when shes lecturing. And when she's answering questions, she literally doesn't answer what your asking and just goes off topic onto something completely non-relevant. PART 1
She assigns us textbook readings w/ sentences like: "The deepest problems of modern life derive from the claim of the individual to preserve the autonomy in face of overwhelming force." But none of what she talks in class is related to the textbook AT ALL. ABSOLUTE waste of time, AND she checks ur notebook for notes on it at midterms. Ridiculous
Not clear on assignments, textbook never used in lectures but expects us to take notes on it. Textbook hard to read too. Class is waste of time and money, you wont learn anything here. I suffered through this class so you wont, save yourself.
She is a nice professor because she really helps students to write their paper. She helps student to choose the topic and give nice feedback on the initial outline and draft for the paper. She also offers a lots of useful links that can help student to correct the format of the paper.
She is a super nice professor I ever have before! Every time she can give me a good inspiration for some art content! Want to take her class again! She likes a mentor for me!
Content in class given was not tested in full. Hard to prepare for something you never know what she will ask. She grades based on her opinion of things and whatever is out of that content is not well taken. Not mindful of disabilities. A class that should be an enjoyable travel thru art and history loses the charm making it more difficult than is
Professor Bagnole struggles with phrasing assignments unambiguously. Has an accent, but it was easy enough to understand. Class lectures went fine, essays and projects went fine. Somewhat harsh grading final project. Midterm review of notes. She has changed the textbook to be less dense and does not require payment for field trips anymore.
This professor is fun to take. She knows her subject and grades fairly. She is definitely a nice lady/professor. Overall, her class is not difficult and the tests are short essays.
Rihab is a great professor if you appreciate interesting presentation. Art History is one of my least favorite subjects in school, but the way she gets excited about the paintings and stories makes the class a lot easier to tolerate. I recommend Rihab for anyone who isn't the biggest fan of Art History.
Wonderful teacher! Very painless class. Take notes, participate in discussions, and all in all just show you care. Sometimes criteria for assignments can be unclear, so just be sure to ask questions for clarification. She will be happy to help!
I noped out after the first class. I had a digital copy of the textbook, but she insisted in the first class on a physical copy for the rest of the course. That sort of inflexibility raised a bunch of red flags and I transferred to a different professor right afterwards. So I cant comment on teaching style or difficulty, but be aware of that.
Professor Bagnole was very disrespectful and did not give good constructive criticism. Any feedback she'd give was very rude to a point I was in shock. It was not only to me personally, but on feedback in discussions. Even in an online class, she would try to force us to meet on a zoom call. Also, she is a tough discussion grader.
Nice person with vague feedback. Get ready to read and write a lot in this class, more so than any other art history class I have taken at SCAD. Learn Turbian style too, since you WILL be marked down if you do not cite sources to a tee.
Definitely passionate on what she is teaching, lectures can be long and boring but tests are open book and open notebook so don't stress to much. Graded on discussion posts done during class (done in group and fairly easy), pop quizzes (from documentaries shown in class), presentation (try to do the midterm one for less stress), and tests.
Her class was really easy. You lecture what you read in the textbook, have 2 open book quizzes (one you can do with a partner), a small group discussion post each class, and one presentation at the end of the quarter. She is a lovely woman and you can tell how much she loves the subject.
Don't do this class if you cair for your mental health lectuers are never on topic she rants off and test is never what you studied for .
Misgenders people, is extremely unclear about grading criteria and changes her mind after assigning things. Rips people apart in front of the class. Horribly designed tests.
Not my fave prof, but not the worst. Very heavy on papers and the final project involves deep research. Definitely figure out Turabian style. If taking online, attend on zoom so you don't have to summarize lectures or do the work of 4-5 other students alone on discussion board. Take her in person if you can! Very kind and wants to see you succeed.
I love Professor Bagnole, she's wonderful and great for students who have a lot of homework outside this class because it's often done as a group project in the last thirty minutes. She is very personable with her students and it's always a relaxed environment, I am learning a lot about history.
Professor Bagnole is great. She is a bit intimidating at first and really wants you to attend the live Zoom sessions. But, she is super caring and wants you to succeed. The workload is light with two short discussion posts a week. There are two tests and one presentation. She is also accommodating as long as you communicate with her. Take her!
I am currently looking for an alternative, but I had some red flags come up for me. First off, she was very intense about having to show up on Zoom. For a presentation, I understand, but she penalizes if it's a pattern despite it being asynchronous. Came off as rude in a discussion. If you don't like working in groups online specifically, be ready
Bagnole knows how to run their class, be it strict and at times stressful. They are not a hard grader but their critques can come off as harsh because of their language barrier. You will have to write an essay every class but they give you a lot of class time to start it, and you can have a partner for most.
This was the only class I had ever withdrawn from. I am typically an A student and do not mind challenges. The grading in this class is not just "tough" as others said, it is genuinely irrational. The assignment instructions are often unclear. A friend said that on ground this professor was fine... but online, this course was a genuine nightmare.
Very very very knowledgeable, also super kind
Everything can be done in class, try not to miss since a lot of assignments are small group writings at the end. Missing = Writing 5 paragraphs yourself. The midterm/final are also open note/book. Easy of you try!
This class was rough to take online, ive heard much better in person. But online, not afraid to be very rude towards students if you do show up so by the end of the quarter only 4 of us really came. Its hard to participate in class because she will always find something wrong with what you say. Critique will be small, but heavy point deduction.
I went on here to see how Bagnole was before attending class. Needless to say, I did not have the same experience as others. She is a harsh grader, very nitpicky. Do NOT turn things in late, because her harsh grading style can really bring down your grade. She assigns an essay (on the shorter side) almost every week and there's one big presentation
Professor Rihab Bagnole is wonderful, highly knowledgeable about the subject matter & caring
Might be one of the most kind and personable professors I've had. I was in a smaller class of hers, but it allows her to get to know you and your other students better before class and during breaks. She is very knowledgeable of art history and the concept of art criticism. Very thorough in her lectures. She did a great job this quarter!
The class can be challenging, but Professor Bagnole is passionate and accommodating. Definitely attend the live sessions, as participation is important. For study prep, use resources like unstuck ai alongside the textbook to succeed.
Guys, don't listen to anyone, she was a GREAT professor. Very nice, respectful, and funny. Not heavy on projects, the test is open book and you can retake it at home later.
This class is so easy if you just show up and do the work. There was two small in class assignments before and after the midterm. Two short 300-500 word essays for the whole quarter. One presentation and then two open book open note exams. It is an easy A if you actually show up and do the work, I rarely had homework and it was a good class.
Prof Bagnole is a very sweet woman. She is very knowledgeable about art history and he lectures are very engaging and interesting. But don't take her if you're just wanting to get CTXT out of the way because she does expect some class participation. But if you love art history like me, definitely take her class.
Very wise and sweet woman, also fashionable (she has these stunning glittery glasses that she wears every day its great). She's very clearly passionate about what she does, just be kind to her and participate and you'll be fine!
Prof. Bagnole was incredible in person. She's very knowledgable and just wants students to listen/interact. She has an accent and struggles with technology so I recommend in person. She changed a whole assignment to help us learn and had a student share the textbook as a free pdf for the class. She expects you to use Chicago style citations.
Professor Bagnole is a good enough lecturer and teacher, but she shows a real lack of humility and empathy for her students. She has no problem tearing students apart in front of the whole class right after a big presentation. Even with students who showed obvious nervousness for public speaking she subjected to the public humiliation.
As someone who maintains a 4.0 GPA and has been academically inclined their entire life, never take her class. She does not communicate expectations well. All she knows how to do is assign essays (with a partner, which is quite difficult) and Khan Academy quizzes. Even when you attend lectures, you still feel left out to dry.
Professor Rihab is a fine professor, but she lacks empathy completely. If you're struggling or if you had a bad situation happen to you suddenly, she doesn't hesitate to give you a bad grade anyway, even if you email her. Just submit all of your assignments on time, and you'll be fine. Her assignments aren't hard, just mundane work.
Professor Bagnole is very rude and shows little to no empathy. Instead of asking what actually happened, she blamed me and my partner for “not working together” when we did. She often makes unnecessary smart remarks and speaks down to students, which creates a negative class environment.
Pros: Very kind and caring, can be funny too. Definitely knows her stuff, and is a good lecturer, imho. Cons: Has a bit of an accent, and can be a stickler for the specifics of Chicago style (but proper citations are important in academia, so there's no point in complaining, you're in college.)
