Really nice teacher. Her lectures were HARD to follow and she moves fast, but she anwsers any questions you may have. Really need to work in this class. She is fair and try's to help students do good.
Great teacher, lots of energy and clear lectures.
pretty easy class. alot of the work is group work. she gives partner tests and your allowed to use either book or study guide. not that bad of a class
A lot of group work. All of the tests are partner test with the study guide. If you miss a day you may not be able to have a partner on a test. Final is a group presentation on a research paper about disorders. 8-12 page paper due for the final.
She's pretty cool. The final project [paper on disorders] seems daunting at first but she makes it clear what she wants.
Ridiculous. Doesn't clarify assignments, grades on her opinion of people, tests are meant to trick people, doesn't schedule time well, lectures are frantic all over the place and don't make sense. TERRIBLE teacher. As a straight A student in every other class, I'm turning in the last paper and have no clue where I stand.
she is really straightforward. powerpoints provide all the notes necessary for tests. she goes over study guides in class a week before the test. you have the option to take tests with a partner. minimal outside class work. their is a behavior modification project the 2nd half of semester. very interesting topic! would definitely take her again!
Tests are written funny, but can be taken with a partner. However, The study guides don't reflect the content on the tests. I was sick one day and emailed her an assignment due the same day, but she still didn't accept it. Because it wasn't "physically handed in". Feels like a high school class with the "participation points".
Rima is great! Her lectures are clear and knows how to get class involved and thinking. Not too much work, besides reading, outside of class. Allows partners for exams. No final-instead a paper/partner presentation on a psychological disease of your choice. I highly recommend her intro psych course!
She has a terrible personality and taught as if it were an elementary school class. She is very immature/catty to other women. She made unprofessional comments about the dept. chair, and doesn't seem to be qualified to be a college prof.
While Rima seems like a very nice person her teaching style and organization of material are not focused. Her power points and lectures are all over the place. Her tests are not reflective of the material on the two page study guide and even though you can take the test with a partner, the questions are worded in a very bizarre fashion.
She's nice and smart, and her lectures are easy to follow and take notes on. Hardly any homework, and quizzes are EASY--you get a study guide that you can take in and it has all the answers in it somewhere, plus you get a partner to work with. She also gives out extra credit like CANDY--just answer questions and you'll get a ton of EC points.
Here is my recommendation: don't take it. And if you're already in it, drop it.
Unorganized and not helpful at all. Can use study guide and a partner on tests, but not a good teacher.
Rima one of the best teachers i have had. She really strives to make her class exciting and enjoyable to everyone. While it is a challenging course, she is extremley helpful and always answers all of my questions. she prepares us with study guides before the tests, which are really useful to me!
You're going to have to work if you want a good grade in this class, if you consider actually going to class and taking notes "work". If you have a question, she'll go over it until you understand. Lets you take tests with a partner and use any notes you have on the study guide. I don't see why no one else likes her; I thought she was a great prof.
A great professor. Teaches with PowerPoints and is very interactive with the class. I found her class easy if you keep up with the reading and complete the study guide which can be used on the tests along with a partner. The final is a group presentation plus a paper on a disease/disorder. Gives out lots of extra credit and reinforcement.
Great teacher. Easy class. gives bonus points for almost ever question answered. fun and easy.
She had some cool ideas about how she teaches (like lots of group things and partners for tests) but the tests were pretty hard and class was useless. half the time she had her assistant teacher teaching us. but it is an interesting class and easy to get a good grade. just get on her (and her assistants) good side..
Really easy class, but super boring. I had this as a night class and almost fell asleep every week. You get partners on the tests and study guides to use, which would be nice if the study guides had anything to do with the tests (which they don't). Final is just a presentation and a paper, so not bad. Overall pretty easy, but participating is key!
great teacher. participation is key.
Pretty easy class, you get to use a partner and study guides for the tests. Attending lectures are really important - study guides are almost completely based on them. Study guides don't help that much on tests though. Participation in class discussion is really important, you get points for every time you talk that help your grade at the end.
Rima expects a lot out of her students. You will have to work for your grade, but you will also learn a LOT from her. I would easily take another class with her. Lets you use a partner for tests. If you show up for class, take notes and pay attention, you won't have any problem doing well.
She really knows what she is talking about and she makes the class interesting and simple enough for anybody to understand.
GREAT TEACHER TAKE HER!
She is a very intelligent and informative teacher. She really knows what she is talking about and she made me really interested in psychology. Partner, multiple choice tests, hard, but lets you use study guide on test. ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY.
Great professor, lectures are powerpoints. ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY! If you skip more than one class between exams then you are not allowed to have a partner for the next exam. She even gave everyone who attended class the day after the exam +5 on the exam just for attending. Lots of other random perks for attending. And... she's kinda hot.
Easy tests, participate and you'll be fine. MUST ATTEND CLASS,if you don't you lose points and risk not having a partner on the tests. Not much outside hw except some articles every couple weeks.Final is pretty straightforward.
Her lectures are very easy to follow and she explains everything very well. She uses many mediums to cater to all learning styles. She is always willing to answer questions and gives participation to those who ask. She takes roll every day and you get 2 points just for showing up. Great teacher! My favorite class thus far!
Based on these reviews, I thought that I would like the Dr. Briscoe/ the class. However, it's my least favorite class!! She's disorganized, makes the material uninteresting, and is bad tempered towards my class (which is annoying bc I have her for almost 3 hours straight.) She focuses more on us participating than on her teaching us! Horrible!!!!!!
Taking it as a 3 hour night class, long and boring. No breaks, can't leave or you don't get points, unorganized, I feel like I haven't really learned anything. Can use partner and study guide but the tests are difficult and may require critical thinking. Don't take this class if you plan to slack off, because you need to work hard to pass.
The class is so big I usually have a friend sign me in if I want to miss class. Its a long 3 hours but only once a week. Even though we get a partner and use the study guide on test theyre still extremely hard and its nearly impossible to get an A. HW is reading a chapter in the book and researching an article then a response...really easy.
She isn't mean, just a little bit strict about talking and phones out and things like that. The class is long and kinda boring, but it's only once a week.
One of the worst teachers I have ever had at Sonoma State by far. Participation is required, but if you answer a question incorrectly she is condescending and disrespectful. I can't believe she has good reviews. Absolutely miserable class because of the teacher, not the material.
DO NOT TAKE HER! She is the most illogical, unorganized teacher EVER and her class was truly painful. Her her tests are nothing like the lectures and I honestly hated everything about this class.
Worst class taken this semester. I would've been interested in the subject if it wasn't for the length of the class and how unorganized she is. Study guides barely helped for the tests.
worst class taken last semester. it was such a large class and it lasted way too long at night. study guide didn't prepare you for what was on the tests at all.
To put it nicely, this was the worst class I have ever taken. She is illogical and pretty much down right the rudest teacher. She is uninspiring. I am a good student and it was impossible for me to get a good grade without the help of her bonus points she gave us because the whole class would average at a low C on her tests. Do not take her!
I don't know what everyone is complaining about! Rima was such a good professor and her test were taken in GROUPS! Very easy class. I highly recommend it for an easy GE.
If you are active in class its very easy to learn and you will get an A. She is a fair grader- giving credit only where it is deserved. Participation is BIG: if you don't try you won't get an A. However she does let you take the tests in groups, she is always available & willing to answer questions. Great teacher! Hard work but truly worth it!
She is really nice and very competent in the material. Her lectures and powerpoints are a little confusing, so you just need to pay close attention. The tests are taken as a group and with your stud guide that she goes over I class and gives all the answers to. She basicallY hands out A's, but attendance and participation help A LOT.
Very easy class. She let us take test with a partner and she wanted everyone to participate to get bonus points but I never did and I passed the class perfectly. There is a 15 page paper due for the final, but its on a topic that gets to be worked on with a team. She is friendly and very knowledgeable.
I never in a million years wanted to take this class but I ended up in love with her class, energy and her teaching style. She was at Laney 2013 summer and taught such an amazing course with so much information! She is super smart! Honestly she believes in all her students and gives great study guides!
Very easy teacher, very easy GE class. She lets you take the tests in groups and answers questions if needed. She is always willing to give extra points.
Easy GE! I love psych and I think it is super interesting. She stresses participation a lot and attendance & will bump you up a grade for participating. All tests are in groups which are great but you have to attend class to use it. Gives extra points o test. You can tell she loves psychology and she wants people to understand her! Love this class!
By far my favorite teacher! Her class isn't hard if you go and pay attention. She often lets you use study guides and a partner for tests. She is super passionate and loves what she teaches!
Group tests if you come to every class, gives extra points on tests, wants you to understand the material, not just memorize vocabulary words. Great into to psych class!
Go to class and you get extra points and things--if you don't good luck with getting anything better than a B.
Have to attend class. if you go to class then you get to use a study guide and work with other for the midterms. if you miss one class you don't. Have to pay attention to class, one larger group project and a 15 page research paper due at the end of the semester.
Amazing teacher! I would take her class again in a heartbeat. She is very passionate and really wants you to understand the material. Group tests and notes on tests so DO NOT MISS ONE CLASS. Participation matters, so raise you're hand. Very understanding.
Although there isn't much homework, her tests are really hard. My partner and I studied for hours and still didn't get a good grade. Participation points can save you and she curves most of her tests. Her lectures are all over the place and she tends to try and cover way too much material in a short amount of time.
Relatively easy class. Attendance and participation are key to doing well in the class. She makes the lectures pretty interesting. Overall, it was a really cool class, I would definitely take it again.
Loved this class, I didn't find that we covered very much information, it is still an introductory course though. She is very clear when in explaining and everything. Would recommend!
LITERALLY THE EASIEST CLASS IVE TAKEN IN COLLEGE. She is also really beautiful and helpful. Such an easy A. Take this class! The only catch is... you need to have perfect attendance of the class will not be so easy for you.. so steer clear of this one if you ever plan on missing a day. I love her!
This class is an easy A or B if you go to class. Rarely ever homework and if there is it is super easy. Open note partner tests and she gives a study guide. Lectures are some what interesting. Attendance is MANDATORY! If you miss one class you lose the privilege to use notes and a partner on tests. No final just an essay which is long but easy.
AMAZING experience!!!! Totally loved this class, i find myself wishing i could take her other classes. There's nothing to complain about her, she really does set you up to succeed. She makes sure it is easy to understand and i love her style of teaching; she always changes it up between videos, reading, power point and class interaction.
Briscoe is a very energetic, enthusiastic and down to earth professor. You really must participate in this class and you can never miss one day of class. If you do miss a day and don't have enough participation points, you will not be allowed to take your tests with a partner (which she lets you do!!) Also, presentation and essay due at end of sem.
This class is an easy A if you go to class. Rarely ever homework and if there is it is super easy. Open note partner tests and she gives a study guide. Lectures are interesting and inspirational! Attendance is mandatory If you miss one class you lose the privilege to use notes and a partner on tests. No final just an research paper.
She is really nice and very competent in the material. Her lectures and powerpoints are a little confusing, so you just need to pay close attention. The tests are taken as a group and with your stud guide that she goes over I class and gives all the answers to. She basicallY hands out A's, but attendance and participation help A LOT. great class!!!
Her lectures are full of great information and she's a great teacher. The tests are partner tests and you can use your study guide, but they are hard. If you miss class you can't have a partner or study guide on the test. She gives points for participation A LOT! She can be strict, but she's very understanding and gives extra points on tests.
She is a great teacher. She knows her material, enjoys what she is doing, and seems to genuinely care about her students. Attendance and participation is essential. She gives a lot of points for both. She also gives extra points on tests, which basically will save your grade. I really enjoyed her class, and would definitely take her again.
I actually liked this class but Briscoe on the other hand can come off super rude at times. She is super big on participation, you have to go to every class to get a good grade. You can work in groups on test if you have 100% participation which is awesome because her tests are really hard. Group project and 10 page paper is the final.
Having never had Briscoe as a teacher I was a bit skeptical because I heard of the hard tests and participation requirements. But I definitely think that everyone should take this class. She is really educated and presents interesting data. If you put in the effort, getting a good grade isn't hard. Extremely glad that I took this class.
Easy A if you go to class, participate, and do your work. Kinda boring but doable.
Briscoe is a great teacher! She makes class very interesting. There's 3 midterms but she lets you work in partners ONLY if you have a perfect attendance. IT'S AN EASY A!! I would definitely take a class with her again.
Loved this class! You need to go to every class in order to use your study guide and work with partners on the test. If you go to every class, you will get a good grade FOR SURE. I recommended taking her class to many people.
LOVE HER and LOVED THIS CLASS. She has a policy which has helped everyone who uses it, if you don't miss any classes then you can use your study guide and work with a partner on her tests. Only three tests with a group project/paper for the final. Little bit of homework but nothing too hard. Super passionate about what she teaches and loves her job
It's in your best interest to have perfect attendance. The tests are tough but you literally take it as a class and she'll stop to give you a few answers. Not much work. Couple of articles to read with responses. One major paper and presentation at the end, pretty easy though!
Rima is an awesome teacher. Attendance is mandatory but when you attend class you get to use a partner and study guide on the tests. Lectures are fun and engaging and participation is a thing but you do not always have to.
She is an amazing professor!!
She is a good professor, but is very strict. I would not recommend taking her class at 8am because its rough and her lectures include a lot of information. If you go to every class you can work in groups on the test with your study guide. Very interesting class but it not really an easy one.
I really enjoyed Professor Briscoe. There was not a lot of homework, just keep up with reading and do the few assignments she gives. There is a research project and presentation but it's not hard, especially if you give yourself time to finish it. She had a chill personality as long as you're respectful and followed directions.
Tests are hard if you do not attend class or pay attention. She is really good at presenting the information if you miss class you will fall behind.
Highly recommend! Interesting class, nice teacher and tests are easy because you get to use your study guide and work with others on the test if you attend every class but if you miss one or two days, you can redeem yourself by participating.
Heavy lecturer and a no nonsense approach. Her passion comes through in the lectures and brings topics that inspire critical thinking. This class is very easy to get an A if you show up and participate, if you like to miss class or go to your professors with excuses steer clear of her. Only for students who want to work and learn.
She is tough but she's fair, a really good professor
If you have perfect attendance, you are allowed to use a study guide and work with a group during the test. Miss a class and it can be overridden with participation points. Participation only helps your grade and isn't mandatory. Big on reinforcement so don't stress the tests. Great lectures, one of the best classes I've ever taken
She takes attendance very seriously. If you miss one class you have to make it up by having about 100 participation pts and then you'll be allowed to use a study guide on the test and work with a partner. If you don't then you're on your own. I got a C and an A on the tests, you have to write summaries on articles and at the end type 10 pg paper
English is my second language and i earned an A in her class. Just come to class everyday, don't miss a day. HW r easy, just read some articles online n summarize them. 1 research paper n 1 presentation. tests r easy cuz it's group test! My Engrish is not even good tho. My pronunciation, presentation weren't good, but still....
Briscoe was definitely an interesting teacher. She has an easy grading policy, giving 10 extra credit points on most of the tests plus, lets us work with other people. The latter is contingent upon coming to EVERY CLASS. I have a friend who is epileptic and two seizures she had weren't good enough reason for her to skip class. Just unreasonable.
Take her class. Super easy. Adds points to the tests and does a take home test. Does require outlines of chapters but is very manageable with homework. Group tests if perfect attendance.
Professor Briscoe is flipping amazing! Her lectures are so fascinating and well put together. She can be slightly disorganized but it's nothing like many other teachers. Her exams are very helpful for the long term. You definitely won't be cramming hours the night before, trust me.
At first I hated her guts but then she started lecturing. She is amazing and has the only class I enjoy. Her lectures are amazing, interesting and well put together. Tests are very easy but attend everyday for benefits. She is so nice! She also says "Did you get that?" and "Are you getting me right now?" a lot. She makes me want to change my major.
Briscoe is great! At first I didn't enjoy her, but after time she made the lecture material very interesting and easy to understand. If you show up to every class, take notes, and fill out the study guide you will pass!
three words. TAKE HER CLASS. her lectures are long but they are very interesting. her tests are tough but she allows you to work with your classmates and some are take home. you will definitely learn alot.
Rima is a really good professor and cares about her students. PARTICIPATE!!!!! Bc it truly will not only help your grade but you will get extra points! Always go to class and never miss for if you miss you wont be allowed to work w ppl on the test or use the study guide. Fill out the study guide like crazy and dont hesitate to go over board!
Loved her class. She is really passionate about Psychology which makes the class fansinating. Attend every lecture so you can work in a group for the tests. Final is just a paper on a disorder. Super easy and great class.
Great teacher she is very passionate about what she teaches and her lectures are interesting. 4 group tests throughout the semester but if you miss just 1 class you have to take it alone. Always show up! One group project and one essay. Pretty easy class and loved the teacher I would definitely take this class again.
She takes attendance seriously but if you go every time it's easy to get a good grade. Her tests can be a bit challenging but she curves them a ton (10-20%). The material is interesting. I suggest taking notes, as her tests are based off of her lectures and not the book. I never studied and had over 100% for most of the semester.
Rima Briscoe is caring, straight forward and, genuinely a good Professor. She really cares about what she teaches.
Briscoe is inspirational, she really cares if her students succeed
Lectures were interesting. She curves the tests a lot!!!! If you show up every class you get to use notes and work together on the tests. Minimal homework, maintained over a 100% all semester
Make sure you attend class and take good notes. I would take again.
best teacher ever! hands down take her.. she does the best thing for all students & curves. you just have to go class but so worth it & she makes it interesting
Best Professor the greatest!!! Professor Briscoe will make you want to continue your education She is the Awesome please if you have a chance take one of her classes
Such an easy class, but so engaging and mind opening. She really does promote a stress free learning environment. Attendance is very important, but if you show up everyday you'll get to use your study guide notes AND work with others on her exams. She'll add points to the tests afterwards (very generous, at least 20% more). Just take her.
If you want an easy GE, this is your class. Attendence is very important because it allows you to work in groups on the test. Seriously takes minimal effort. Lectures are very boring and not very interactive but worth it for how easy the class is.
She is an amazing professor. I highly recommend taking her courses. She taught very well. if you attendant do her work and participate you will succeed in that class. Loved her as a person as well she was very easy to understand.
I highly recommend prof Briscoe. She's amazing! She's so clear about homework and tests and gives study guides that actually help. She's all about her students passing and them benefiting from her class. The only down part is you HAVE to go to class or else you have to take exams alone but honestly with her being such a good prof you'll want to go!
Easy A if you go to class. There are only 3 midterms which you get to work on with others if you attend class and 1 final group project with an 8-12 page paper. She is a very easy grader and gives extra credit to the whole class on each exam.
Briscoe is super chill. Attendance is mandatory and if you aren't absent any day before an exam she lets you collaborate and use a study guide during the test. She gives a lot of opportunities for points back on exams and for participation. There is some reading/hw from the book but a lot. Overall great prof and interesting class!
Makes the material easy to understand and relatable. If you dont miss a class she lets you use your study guide for test and lets you interact with other students for help. However i hardly needed the study guide since the lectures covered everything on the test and only checked my study guide for assurance.
Rima is the best professor I've had at Sonoma!! People who take her class often transfer to a psych major because she's so inspiring! Tips: show up to class, PARTICIPATE, meet with her during office hours. She wants her students to succeed and will help anyone who shows that they are working and want to learn. HIGHLY recommend any of her classes.
She allows you to do group test and gives opportunities for hwole class extra credit. In order to get credit, you'll have to do the homework and if you want you can participate you'll get "extra points".
She is an organized professor, but she comes off as cold and a bit uncaring about the student. She refers to students only by their last names and is impersonal. BRING YOUR LAPTOP TO CLASS! Her tests are based on the lecture and you won't be able to write down the info fast enough during lecture. You MUST participate to pass!
Professor Briscoe's class is incredibly easy. You don't even really have to pay attention, since you can work with each other on tests. Attendance is 20% of your grade, so show up. Briscoe is very kind and considerate though, and really understands if you make a mistake. Her kindness makes her really respected; she wants to make sure you're happy
Professor Briscoe is the definition of a college professor. The way she teaches you can tell she knows her stuff/very knowledgeable! Notes are confusing/messy when she writes on the whiteboard & slides/grades are NOT uploaded to canvas. THE TESTS ARE HARD even if you get to work with others & use your study guide. Still happy I took this course.
Prof. Briscoe is great! She has a great philosphy on taking tests, and if you show up to class putting in the effort, she will be kind on exams allowing you to work with others and use the study guide. I would highly recommend taking her class, if you're okay with large classes. Since her classes are large she's not very personal but will help you!
She is a great professor and you will get alot out of it if your willing to put the work in. She has great lectures and cares about the students. I will definitely take another class with her in the future.
She is such a great professor! As a psychology major and a freshman, she was very helpful during office hours when I needed help. Attendance is around 20% of your grade so show up everytime! You can easily get an A if you study hard for tests, participate, and show up to every class. She really cares about her students :)
Clear, enthusiastic, and empathic
Gives 2 hr long lectures to watch on your own time. Don't bother watching bc none of the info is on the tests. Just print out the study guides, all the answers are there. 2 attempts for each test, all mc questions, no time limit. Take it with a group of at least 4 and use process of elimination. I got 100% in the class.
Learning and Behavior class was really interesting and learned a lot more than I expected. The material is difficult at times, but Prof Briscoe allows for many second chances when it comes to quizzes, tests, etc. The final project takes time to complete, but is really interesting at the same time.
Her class was a joke. Very unstructured on canvas, and half the time I didn't know I had homework until the day before it was due. In addition, a lot of her homework was find it yourself (i.e. our final for the Fall was merely finding your own subject about human sexuality and write about it) which is super broad and I don't know she is not clear
Rima was extremely understanding and thoughtful during her class and was super easy to pass in my opinion. I received an A+ and all of her tests were based off of her lecture. Definitely an interesting class and she understood everyones learning habits. I HATE zoom university and her lectures made it seem like we were all collectively there.
As a professor, Dr. Briscoe is a wonderful professor who cares deeply about students and their success. The course content was difficult was very interesting. There is a lot of studying that needs to be done for the midterms, and reading the text book was not easy, but she is really flexible and willing to help out.
Great and interesting lectures, but 3+ hours get tiring, bring a drink and a snack for the break. Lots of opportunities to get participation points. So much reading - homework is almost all just summaries/notes of the textbook (blah). Two tries on tests, open-note, collaboration allowed, no time limit (canvas). Quizlet and chegg are helpful.
Despite this being an asynchronous class, this professor stood out to me as someone who really cares about each of the students. She provided so many helpful resources, explained everything in lectures thoroughly, and made it very clear that she was there to assist even in the case of extending due dates. Definitely recommend!!!
Professor Briscoe is such a kind professor! You can tell she genuinely cares for her students and is very easy to reach. Her lectures expand on and explain concepts in the textbook, which are very interesting. There is a homework assignment to complete every week and a few exams to do. Overall, I highly recommend taking one of her classes.
the first part of this semester seems very doable, although her tests do not reflect her lectures you sit through for 2-3 hours online. You get to the second part of the semester, and you are required to do 10-page notes on the rest of the chapters of the textbook and a giant 14-day project, and if your mom dies, she doesn't care.
First part of semester easy w/ lectures and article/video summaries, 2 exams multiple choice. Give lots of participation points to add on exams. The second half of semester= read textbook and writing 2pg summaries,1 final easy exam, and behavior modification project w/ presentation+paper. Provide example for paper. Attendance = points.
this professor was really great. She teaches from an empirically based perspective so much of her lectures can be taken as fact which is nice. I took her class on Monday mornings, but she always came prepared to teach and had energy.
While grading was forgiving and tests were taken outside of class I would not recommend this professor. Her lectures were not interesting and it felt like we weren't learning anything because it was the same info over and over again. She also yelled randomly and would ask for participation but not wait for anyone to answer. DO NOT RECOMEND
The class was easy, split into two parts. First half: weekly article summaries based on lectures—second half: textbook readings with 2-page notes as homework. One big project and a 5-minute presentation were required. Lectures were boring but manageable. You can miss two classes before it impacts your grade. Overall, light work and simple grading.
Prof. Briscoe is great - her lectures are engaging, and she's flexible with assignments. The material can be challenging, but using resources like Unstuckstudy along with the textbook helps a lot. Definitely recommend this class!
I really struggled paying attention. Her lectures felt very repetitive, like we learned the same thing over and over. I couldn't understand her lectures, info was too all over the place. She wants people to participate but it's hard when it's the same thing over and over. Attendance is also mandatory w/ EZ 10 min presentation at end of semester.
Not a great professor. Teaches straight from the book but grades heavy on attendance. Learning and Behavior felt like I was just taking Intro again but way more boring. Lectures are very repetitive and it doesn't feel like I've learned anything.
