Terrible teacher...very relaxed attitude in class but DONT let that fool you. His expectations are RIDICULOUS for the project. 8 hours of recording...and yes he listens. and a 30 page paper! He expects a masterpiece. Go to class so you can turn in participation slip. If you dont care about that then don't go it's a waste of time.
horrible. project was ridiculous: 8 hours of interviews, 25+ pg paper, presentation. participation counts but it's impossible to get full credit even if you do speak up. extra credit is a lot of work for little points. he's obsessed with youtube & shows too many clips in his lectures. take someone else if you can!
Great Professor- He is always available for assistance during office hours and returns emails quickly. If you go to class and download the notes from beachboard- you will pass the class easily. Group project very easy? just follow timeline. Overall awesome class and terrific teacher!!!
Go to class, take notes and get easy A
HORRIBLE TEACHER!!! Do not take him!! He will make you work extremely hard and will reward you very little for your efforts!! The final project is extremely difficult and he will expect 8 hrs+ of interviewers. WORST PROFESSOR AT CSULB!!!!!!
Horrible horrible teacher! Won't give you full credit on anything, the project is retarded. Going to class is pointless unless you want to turn in the participation slips... Puts fake answers that look like the real answers on tests on purpose. Take any other teacher!!
HORRIBLE PROF, TAKE ANYONE ELSE! He is NEVER available for office hours, the other profs in the building said the same thing. Completely unorganized, expects way too much and rewards very little. Project isn't too bad, but he isn't clear on what he wants. My grp was only 3 people & others had 5 and he graded us WAY too hard, even when he knew this!
Actually taught well with great examples from YouTube. Yes this class was more difficult but really now if you just put in the effort, use the book more than just lecture notes for the exam to study, and work semi hard on the project you can get an A. I was intimidated by this class, it is hard for me to get A's and I got one.
Great teacher! Risto is a surfer, mma junkie, cook, he's alot cooler than other straight laced teachers. The tests are easy, presentation seems just like anyother presentation. He's passionate about his work and wants all his student's to succeed. Go to class, say something everyday, turn in your slips, and do the study guides. Easy A or B.Take Him
Great teacher! Risto is a surfer, mma junkie, cook, he's alot cooler than other straight laced teachers. The tests are easy, presentation seems just like anyother presentation. Attendance is crucial, since you lose 1 point per day skipped. Very strict with grading too. Uses the pink scantrons, so beware. Extremely picky with the group project. If something goes wrong with the project, you get dinged many points. Forces you to spend lots of money on a voice recorder you'll never use again. Take someone else if possible.
STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS CLASS!!!!! You will seriously hate your life because of his impossible project. He has the most ridiculous requirements for the smallest amount of points. If you do decide to take this class, make sure someone in your group knows film production & knows how to convert files, or write the paper instead. Trust me.
Do not take this class. You will start to become angry at the world. The project has absolutely insane requirements. I worked on converting files for 12 hours and my group got 18/30. The tests are not that bad; the only good thing is that he provides a study guide. Consumer behavior sounds like a fun topic, but I regret it 100%.
Unreasonable work load. Expects too much and is never available during office hours. Seems more interested in extra curriculurs than teaching. interviews and file conversion are a huge headache.Would recommend only if he changes his teaching and testing styles!...otherwise stay away!!
He gives tons of work for this class and wants it done by the nest class meeting-you have 4 school days to interview enough students. The people that didn't finish or interviewed @ the wrong location he failed them out og the class & tried to get them kicked out of school. If you dont do something right then dont tell him because he will fail you!
This is my favorite class in the entire MBA program. Very different from the other theoretical marketing courses. Its fun and interesting and a lot of practical learning which none of the other courses offer. If you enjoy marketing, this is a must-take class.
Prof Moisio makes each concept crystal clear, truly cares about students success. Hard grader, really nit picky. 3 exams, online assignments, 2 one page papers, 2 hour research, then in class attendance and activities. No FINAL
The only thing this person under me forgot to mention is the Marketing plan, 6-8 pages long, and seems like 400 lvl work. His accent is really bad so you have to read the book in order to get an A on test. Only reason to go to class is for participation pts. Just avoid this guy, bcuz he makes a simple 300 class seem like a 400 class.
Great professor. His lectures are interesting. Very energetic! Great guy. His test are not too bad you just have to do what a student should do and study! Duh! Have to do some online work that helps study, some marketing surveys, and a marketing plan. I recommend him.
Heavy accent. Class only with slides and uninteresting videos. He asks for participation but always disagree w students making it embarassing. Worst professor on mba program.
His class is pointless. The only reason to go to class is to get the attendance points. The tests are not bad as long as you actually read, and do the online hw. The only thing that is horrible in this class is the marketing plan, it's too long and only 8% of the total grade. Just do well on the exams and you'll survive. Book is a must! NO FINAL.
Moisio is one of the best professors I've ever had. He is enthusiastic and passionate, and his lectures are entertaining(as much as a lecture can be). The material on the tests is very straight forward and fairly easy...no surprises there. His accent isn't hard to understand at all.
DON'T TAKE. He is unclear and his tests aren't clear either. Reading is a must but even with reading the class is impossible
Risto tries.. But he just isn't good -his accent is understandable. -his lectures are so long he never finishes on time, and so then you find yourself contemplating if you should leave and miss what he says or stay and be late for your next class - he whistles at students like we are dogs -_- - tests are long and are not just on lecture
Very hard and unclear teacher, nice guy though
This class is harder than I expected. You should read and understand the book if you want an A (4 exams, no final). HW is easy. Paper is long (better get in a good group). Attendance is required. Got an A but don't like this class.
I am a 2nd year and so far this has been the hardest class I've taken. If you want an A, be prepared to read the book as the professors lectures are not very helpful. Show up to class every day and pick a good group for the project. The key to the tests is to know the book definitions (be able to apply them to the real-world).
He is a tough grader. He doesn't give specific guidelines on group projects. Tests are hard so you better know how to apply terms and concepts in real life situations. His lectures are pointless. He simply goes through powerpoint slides and show you videos then make you work in group at the end of every class. He is not recommended.
Lectures are completely irrelevant. You basically need to teach yourself. He makes you fill out participation forms and in order to get full credit you need to participate 15 times in 1 semester but you can only turn in 1 sheet per class. Tests are lengthy. Be sure to be able to apply to real life settings. I personally wouldn't recommend
Uploads all the activity points at the END of the semester. Exams are unnecessarily difficult. Is an EXTREMELY hard grader on in class assignments. Not very helpful. Stay far away from this professor.
Very confusing. His lectures, while interesting, will not prepare you for his exams, which are based primarily on book material. He expects you to be in class and fill out participation slips, but he never updates the grades until after the final. The group projects are very confusing (no clear grading criteria) and he grades them very hard.
Horrible Teacher! Assignments, quizzes, and test are very unclear. Quizzes are given every other week with 3 big exams. Group project almost every class and must turn in a Participation sheets in order to get participation points. Class lecture and power points are useless and unorganized. Overall this was the worst class I ever taken at CSULB.
2 Exams, tests are hard and tricky. Make sure you read the text and understand!! 10 quizzes, 3 to 4 of them are tricky Participation is a must. Make sure you turn in the participation sheet for attendance. I had this class during my first semester at CSULB. I didn't know which instructor to take. Not recommended
The material he teaches is really interesting and engaging because he shows every-day uses of advertising that's relevant to our generation. He has quizzes every week that are easy as long as you understand the reading material, the exams are the same way and the CourseMate really helped. Awesome teacher overall, he surfs and has a cool accent too!
He's powerpoint lectures are useless towards the quizzes and tests. There are 10 quizzes and 2 exams. For the group project, form a good team because they affect your grade. I would not recommend this teacher, you have to teach your self. Meeting with him in person is a waste of time as well. The only class in my first semester that i disliked.
This is one of the hardest courses I have ever taken. If you do not like participating then this is not the class for you, and you also sign-in at every class. Exams were way too difficult for a 300 level course. When people asked questions he would sometimes make them feel dumb. I'm an A/B student and can't believe I passed..
This professor is not as bad as people are making him out to be! He is hard to understand sometimes, but he is very nice and willing to help at office hours! The tests are only hard if you don't study! Group project is a bit lengthy, but it's not that bad. Easy class to pass for sure!!
Having a good group in this class will make or break your grade. He tells you that you need to buy coursemate with the book but you really dont. Just memorize the book. The concepts are really simple and many are repetitions from other marketing courses so he has a lot of trick questions on the exam.
Interesting class material and nice guy, but VERY unclear grading criteria. BEWARE! Definitely recommend getting the book, but the course code is not necessary. Choose your group wisely for group projects, and go into office hours to have your projects looked over (trust me on this). Attendance is crucial.
Mandatory to attend class. 4 test that are all pretty easy. He lectures every single day but provides power points that are really useful. You need the textbook to pass the class. About 4 group projects throughout the semester but in-class group projects at least once a week.
Strict Grader/Instructor. Laptop users go to the backwall of the class. He'll call you out if ur using ur phone. Guide to an A in the class: Participate, attend class, and TALK to him about what to expect in projects. He does care to helps the try-hards. Try-hards Ask him questions about how to go about the projects. 4 mini group projects,4 exams
Exams are based from the textbook and lectures (he posts slides on bb). The older editions (8th and earlier) are different from the 9th edition so tread carefully. His class is much clearer than than the other professors at CSULB that teach this exact course (and more chances of raising your grade. No butt kissing required, just participation.
These reviews- I haven't see any "trick" questions on all 4 exams yet. Exams are straight from the book, and his slides/lectures are also straight from the book. 4 mini-projects 4-exams that are 50 questions - Reasonably less challenging than any other classes I have taken. He's funny too, puts up funny stuff on lecture slides. Cheers Dr. Moisio
Nice professor but tests are very tricky! The tests don't really come from his lectures but it's mandatory to attend class. sign in sheet or in-class assignments every class. Tests are super difficult, I knew the subject matter but did horrible on the tests. Lots of trick questions and they're not straightforward. Wouldn't reccommend the class
Lectures are interesting, but he doesn't go super in depth with the material and then expects you to know the concepts with more detail on exams than he's taught. Exams are all essay questions, which he grades with no clear rubric, and gives out a study guide that's just the table of contents from the text. Nice man, but just not a good teacher.
He doesn't go too in depth during lectures, most of his tests cover the book so study that. Finnish accent, but totally understandable. offers extra credit for participation, is very friendly and helpful in office hours. His grading criteria isn't very clear and is a tough grader. Overall a nice guy, some people on here are too hard on him.
Mandatory attendance but the lectures don't help at all. Read the book thoroughly, the tests are HARD. Sometimes if you ask a question, he'll make you feel stupid and small. He's really disrespectful and talks over people. Multiple "mini" group projects, choose a good group. Switch groups if you don't like them. Seriously. I hated this class!!!
I actually really like Mr. Moisio. He's funny, knowledgable, and has interesting and interactive lectures. Study from the book, pay attention, and take good notes. He's very kind and helpful with questions asked after class but will have no shame in calling you out during class if you're on your phone or not paying attention.
Risto's lectures are very engaging, entertaining, and educational. I learned a lot from his lectures although the test material is mostly from the textbook. Mandatory attendance. Do the study guide and follow the definitions from the book and you should do fine on the tests. He's super energetic and makes the class fun.
His lectures are all example based and hilarious. Mandatory attendance to count as points. 4 exams, 1 final project. Pick a good group! Not great at responding to emails but always at his office hours. Much easier talking to him in his office than in class. Offers extra credit for participating in class. Tests are straight out of the book. Easy B
Easy B but have to study hard for the exams which is mostly from the book. The exam has vague questions so really memorize the study guide. I did not learn anything from his lectures at all but he's a funny guy. Mandatory attendance. One group project that consists of a lot of ads. Recommend not to procrastinate on the project.
Attendance is worth a pretty big chunk of your grade but he offers extra credit for participation each class. If you memorize most of the study guide, the exams are an easy B.
his study guides are the WORST. I have more trouble studying for this class than my 400 classes. The test itself barely resembles the extensive and almost unhelpful study guide. PPT on BB arent the ones from class. The text is dense, a bit confusing without sufficient examples and he butchers it BUT the test questions are almost all book based.
This guy is the worst. He specifically has exam questions to trick you. By far the most unenjoyable and unnecessarily difficult class I've taken. This is basics yet he makes it difficult for no reason. In class PP not on BB, study guides don't always cover whats going to be on the test. CANNOT USE LAPTOPS to take notes. smh avoid if you can pls
This class was awful, and unnecessarily difficult given every business major has to take this class. His tests are easily the hardest I have ever taken at CSULB (I am a senior), and "short" answer only. He does not tell you ever how to achieve an 'A' answer, so you could get the questions all correct yet still not receive an A on the test. AVOID!!!
In short, I wish I could give this professor a negative score. I missed 2 classes total but participated a great amount in every other one I attended and got an 80% for participation, which is worth 12% of your grade. Exams are impossible. No clear grading criteria. Toughest grader I've ever had at CSULB. I usually get all A's in my classes too
He is the worst professor I have ever had. He is very unclear on grading and is unrealistic with his exams. AVOID at all cost
Not the best but not the worse. The class was made up of four exams, one group project and in class activities. Not many points. I found lectures to be informative and consistent with the exams. Attendance is helpful and graded. The class material isn't too difficult, however, exams aren't straight forward.
Class was honors so he expected a lot. 3 exams, participation, project, and semesters long journal will make the majority of your grade. If you take intense notes and thoroughly read the book you will do okay. Be diligent and come to class everyday. He answers in a very unclear way and has no clear rubric to anything.
Very hard Professor. I put in so much extra time into this class and I still could not achieve my goal of an A. Very annoying grader. All his tests were free response, if your answer is not written the way he likes it he will mark you down, even if your answer is technically right. His grading is very unclear. Out of 30, only 3 student pulled A's!
IMO, he's not qualified to teach this subject. he talks about unrelated stuff/show too many examples then hurry through informational slides. his ppts are incoherent and study guides barely cover his tests. he seems pretty ignorant about social issues/ avoids taking a standpoint. also, a tough grader and instructions to group projects are unclear.
honestly so rude and makes you feel stupid for asking questions. also, his exams include material he does not teach and he throws an activity at you the last 10 mins of class to do for points and theres a quiz after every class. if i were you, i wouldnt take this professor.
THIS PROFESSOR IS SO NICE, PASSIONATE AND KNOWLEDGABLE. He actually teaches and make us thinking critically comparted to other professors. The lectures are super engaging and I love him as a Professor. He is super super nice, always with a positive attitude and makes you work for it. Do not read the mean comments, he is an amazing Professor!
Don't understand all the hate here. His lectures are engaging and he's a funny guy. He posts study guides that help immensely on the tests. Take notes and read the textbook the night before his tests and you will be fine. I would take him again.
I enjoyed this class . Professor kept the class engaged. He was not a boring professor. He is knowledgeable about marketing and business . Lectures had material relevant to the real world of business. You do have to read the textbook for this class. 4 tests and 1 group project. I feel I have become more knowledgeable in marketing.
not sure why this professor is rated so low. I took him for two classes and would take him for more. If you engage in his class, you will learn a lot. he also uses relevant and fun examples and applies his teachings. yes there is group projects but ?? all business classes have projects and at least his are interesting and fun.
I love going to his class because of how relatable and funny his lectures are. He is immersive and the group project was fun! He teaches the class more like a psychology class and I enjoy his lectures.
His lectures are funny, and tests can sometimes be tricky. But he is very knowledgeable, and I feel I've learned much from taking his class.
I feel like he changed his teaching style compared to the negative reviews! He is a funny guy and very knowledgeable! however he grade kinda tough
Dr. Moisio makes lectures incredibly engaging and fun, and his class was one of the few that I actually looked forward to. For tests, make sure to read the textbook and completely fill out the study guides, as there is some information on tests that he does not give in lectures. Can be a tough grader so I would recommend speaking to him for clarity
The first 2 units/exams were fun and easy. After spring break it got so hard. He is a tough grader and doesn't leave written feedback on the 4 small in-class group projects. My experience in this class was low effort = high grade and high effort = low grade with no feedback either way. But I learned a lot of useful things that I will for sure use.
I created this account specifically to rate this teacher alone. I have never been more appalled by a teacher in my life. The grading criteria are actually ridiculous to the point where several students have already filed grade appeals to the school. Seriously think before taking him. If it's him or an 8 am class please take the 8 am class. Beware.
Three exams with a few confusing multiple choice questions. Tough grader on group projects and never got an A on the projects. Has engaging lectures but fills a bit repetitive at times. Does not allow any devices during class. Dr. Moisio has a fun personality but my issue was his grading criteria end expectations for projects.
attendance is worth points! 2 group projects and essay questions on exams. he is a tough grader so beware. However i feel like i more more knowledgeable on the subject as he makes lectures interesting.
He is a nice guy, but I really don't feel like I learned anything from his lectures. To prepare for the exam I basically read the whole textbook. He is a tough grader out of nowhere. I learned the most and felt like I got inspiration in marketing only once in that class - when he brought in a guest speaker. I recommend taking someone else
Professor Moisio is one of the best professors at CSULB. He knows a lot about marketing and relates the lecture to things happening in the culture. He is also available outside of class, and is personally a nice guy. He does grade projects tough, but if you really try you can do it. To do well on tests also read the textbook. Like actually.
Professor Moisio is not a good professor. Only take this professor if you need the credits. He will not answer the questions you need and he will not understand personal emergencies. He will most likely tell you that you need to figure it out yourself even though his instructions are unclear.
Professor Moisio is a good person. As a professor he is not good. He will not answer your questions if he feels that it is a waste of his time. He does not understand personal emergencies. He will waste time on certain slides then speed through the rest to make up for lost time. He is a tough grade and will not answer questions about projects.
Terrible t
Like other people are saying on here, he is a cool guy, but a teacher... not so much
I learned the least from this Professor in the 2 years I attended CSULB. Attendance is a major part of your grade so GO TO CLASS because his grading for assignments is horrible. Exams are easy but questions are confusing due to language differences. This was just a class to fulfill my Minor requirements, glad it wasn't for my major!
In all my years at CSULB this is the worst professor I have ever had.He grades hard and overcomplicates tests. Some questions on the tests were never spoken about in class. This teacher marked my group down immensely because our paper got flagged for "AI." We did not use AI but he did not care to listen to us at all. TERRIBLE, teacher nice person.
This professor is strict with deadlines, offers no late work, and requires assignments before class instead of midnight. Grading feels subjective, rarely awarding perfect scores and often marking down. He's proud of his achievements and expects alignment with his views. Effort and connecting on his terms are crucial, or expect a lower grade.
A professor with unfair grading, rigid deadlines, and passive-aggressive behavior creates a tense learning environment. Forced engagement alienate students, and lack of empathy dismisses personal challenges. Frustrating, discourages growth, and leaves a disheartened and undervalued feeling
The professor does not lecture well, speeds through slides with definitions and concepts, but stays on example slides for too long. Doesn't allow electronics in class. Some of his marketing examples are inappropriate, and his exam questions are difficult to understand since he wrote them. Grading isn't fair across the board, do not recommend.
Worst professor I have ever had at CSULB. The average for the first two tests was a D. Lectures are rushed with slides of content, will stay on unimportant topics for too long, and the background of the lectures makes the slides unreadable. This is my last semester, and I have never struggled so much in a class.
I lowkey think he deserves a higher rating. I understand some people may not like how he operates the class but he's chill/fun, but his lectures can be a little boring and vague. If u just study the slides well enough and know the info you'll do okay. Just make good friends in the class to be able to help study. group activities weren't my favorite
Don't take this professor his ratings are low for a reason. He rushes through slides and does not give the students time to write down notes. His grading is very vague and his teaching method isn't great either. His exams are terrible omg!
Don't take this guy if you don't have to. I would try taking someone else.
Lectures are ok, but attendance is mandatory, and for someone who does not allow technology, he doesn't give enough time to take notes. The worst part is the tests, which are all 32-question MC application-based. Don't study definitions; study with w/real-world examples. Quizzes don't help prepare for the tests! He's meh, but it's survivable.
