She works ver hard to help students that ask for it. I would recommend her.
In my opinion she talks about her family TOO much. Besides that she's alright.
She tends to fall behind the syllabus, but explains things thoroughly.
very willing to work with student!

I learned more about her family than anything about accounting.
If I was tested on her family, I would have got a A.
Kinda hard to follow and take notes with. Ok, but not the best.
Lectures were mainly on theory or her family, but tests were detailed problems.
Needs to shut up about family and her Hope college snobs. BORING!
She is awesome. Very student friendly. Willing to help in time in need
I THINK SHE NEEDS PROZAC. TOO MOODY.
Very Boring class, talks then rushes through the teaching last 5 min.
She was very nice and helpful. Uses real life examples that are good.
talks about fam to much ... i don't care about then and will never.never wrong.
loved her class, family ex. help explain her lesson, tells you material on test
In class you learn about her kids & lawyer husband& tested on accounting. Unfair
helps if you had acc. in high school, very willing to make time to help you out.
Very helpful and interesting. Sometimes is hard to understand. Class recommended
She is very unprofessional and needs to stick to the subject-not her family
multiple choice final was hard, talks about her family alot
Very willing to help and knows her subject. Very good teacher
Absolutely Terrible- Talks about family and not subject. Ridiculously off subjec
fantastic teacher - actually makes ACC fun! does help to have prior knowledge
She is amazing. The best study abroad leader possible. A delight to know!

Her love of ACC is scary! Pretty easy material. Tries to be tricky on tests.
talks abt family & their money too much, needs to explain ACC for real world
Always talks about her family - Gets off track of subject
I learned a lot about her family! Acc whats that?
Tough class, seems like you know ACC until you have her, realize you don't
Extremely unfair... very demeaning personality, would NEVER recommend, horrible!
Her tests are not what she says, her syllabus is a waste of paper.Unorganized!!
Falls behind syllabus, very unclear as to what topics will be covered on exams
Tests are a pain, Final is extremely hard. Pension, Leases, & SCF in 2 weeks??
she is very unorginized
Not a good teacher. Moody, hard tests, talks about her family too much.
She's lazy. Can't follow own syllabus. Did she even look in the book?
Can be very hard to keep up with, better read the book
Ignored too many things of the textbook. Not well organized at all.
She would be a good teacher if you already knew the material
willing to help, she passed me when i know i was failing, she relates to student
A bit unclear at the beginning, extremely helpful with advising issues
Very helpful. Unclear at times.
She is a nice teacher but class work is hard to understand

Willing to help anytime you need, has a vast array of knowledge, great advisor
Talk about her family....you're fine. Talk about accounting.........watch out!
Goes off subject each class, standardized acc. dept. tests SUCK, not helpful
HORRIBLE!!!! just get to the point with your stories! tests hard...too much hw
Knows her stuff. Too much off subject stories.
overall good teacher, just make sure you attend class. I would take her again!
Very good professor. Always there to help you understand.
moody, talk about everything else except tests
does not follow syllabus, goes off on 40 minute rants
Too bad the test are not about her family,
Can we say flake?
Not too helpful or nice, a little shady with her grading.
Kinda off the wall... if you want to have no order in your life this is your pro
Not organized at all. You never know where you stand in her class.
She is sincere and helpful, would write a recommendation for anyone in a minute!
This is what she wants you to learn frm her class: She's rich your not.

I thought she was a great teacher. Had a good sense of humor. Loves her family
Rita is da bomb. She is helpfull, enthusiastic, and will never kick your ass with a ton of extraneous work. If you can't get something in on time...give her a call. Very cool prof.
i don't think this lady knows how to stay on topic, too bad she wasn't teaching a class on the history of her family
take a test on her family u will get an A
This woman should not be allowed to teach..... anywhere!!!! She was never helpful and all she talked about was her family. Horrible class.
very flexible and easy going
Does not teach other than of her family, has her favorites, if she doesn't like you, you'll know it. Lost final papers, always falls behind. Didn't learn what I should have for an important class.
She is the worst, she makes you feel like the stupidest person in the world when you ask a question. She is absolutly no help at all!!
Doesn't stay on topic and doesn't really go along with the syllabus. Class seemed easy, but she graded hard. Don't recommend her for this class.
Mrs. Grant is AWESOME! Very easy to talk to and cares alot of her students. Talks about her family alot b/c she's proud so deal with it. I would recommend her for any class. Thank you Mrs. Grant!
She talks a LOT and the class is really boring, but she's a nice lady and a pretty fair grader.
Does nothing but talk about her family. Mostly off topic during class. Tests cover material NOT covered in class, due to off-topic conversation.
She does not give directions well, and does not stick to the subject all of the time
Goes off topic like it's her job. She talks like she knows everything about the world and forces that her opinions are the right ones. sooo boring.
She needs to talk alittle more about ACC rather than her family/off-topic subjects. People may do better on the test if she talked more ACC rather than her stories. Grading is far though you just have to do alot outside of class to understand the material
I didn't learn anything in the class because she babbles a LOT. She can be nice, but can also be not so nice. Very boring
She's a pretty good prof. Uses good real life examples, but can go off topic. Tests are easy and homework is an easy grade, just show up to class, and do the homework and you'll be fine
Class itself was very boring unless you are acc. major. She is a sweet lady, and wants to help you if she can. Tests are pretty easy because she tells you what is going to be on it. POP QUIZZES suck though, so make sure to keep up on material.
If you're an accounting major, get Rita! She's wonderful for accounting majors and really gears the class toward getting you what you need to know. She does talk about her family, but only to clarify her points if people would bother paying attention.
not good-teaches nothing-everything must be learned on your own outside of class-zero relevant in-class teaching-complete waste-we actually be better if she didnt make you read some rip-off book that is in greek and tried to do some teaching in the class
Terrible teacher. All she talks about is how rich her family is. Not a good Prof. or advisor. Definitely not hot.
Lets personal life affect her teaching too much. Makes you feel inferior because you go to GVSU and not the expensive schools her kids go to. Likes to brag about her family and their rich lifestyle.
Rita is one of the nicest, most caring profs in the Bus school. I have graduated, but when at GVSU I had her for ACC and went abroad with her. She is one of those profs you are lucky to know. If you disagree, you never gave her a chance.
Very confusing professor! Class has to correct her many times. Jumps around too much during lecture. Has her favorites (Betas). Comes off arrogant...or absent minded professor. Should think of retiring!
Professor really incompetent! We aren't getting the education we are PAYING for. Class total waste of time. DeBruine is hard, but at least he spent class teaching!
Although I didn't have her for a real class, she seems like someone who genuinely wants students to find something that they like to do. She was very helpful in giving us an easy time to relax from the rigors of college life. She also made us lasagna. How could I not like her?
Very unorgainzed class. You might as well not even go to the lectures and try to learn it on your own.
Forget Prof. Grant! Very confusing lectures. There is her way and the book way. Her way is 30 years old. Spent barely 20 min. on cash flow chapter, which was supposed to be one of the most important chapters in text. GVSU needs to find a good ACC311 professor!
I liked her better than DeLaRosa (310) but there is no getting around the fact that this is a hard class. Study alot and cross your fingers
Worst teacher I've had! Full of empty promises about posting grades, scheduling, returning tests/homework. Class is waste of time-had to teach myself. Any good rating on here isn't from a student! She loves ACC & GVSU: however doesn't care a bit about putting time into a class we paid good $ for.
One of the most helpful proffesors at Grand Valley. Willing to do anything to help students outside of class. Only complaint is that sometimes she seems more interested in telling stories during class than teaching.
All I can say is give Rita a chance. I went into the class thinking she was awful because of all these ratings and I had no choice because I needed the class for Acc 310. But She was really easy to get a long with, understands students needs and is always willing to go beyond her means to help you out.. i will be taking her for 310 and 311.
ACC 240 is easy compared to ACC310 & ACC311, so good luck with taking those classes with a professor who is behind the times and skims over important accounting principles because she is spending class time talking about her life. Most of the time, the class was confused about where she was going with her lectures. Not a good thing!
Here teaching methods are subpar at best. She is helpful outside of class, but as others have said she promises things that don't get done, spends more time talking about herself and her son and husband. You will end up teaching yourself so be prepared to put in a lot of work!
ANYONE BUT DELAROSA!!!
She sucks. Never helps students and caneled class until final without any review.
Grant is a true badass. The first test is very hard but don't drop because of it. She throws free points at you for the rest of the semester.
This class is hard no matter who you take it with. Be prepared to teach yourself. Do NOT be afraid to use her office hours, she is VERY helpful one-on-one. Class can be a waste sometimes though. And don't drop after the 1st exam, it gets better. Just stick with it, ask questions, and put in as much time as needed.
Never available during office hours to help students. Class time is spent on her personal life a lot of times.Students be prepared to teach yourself. DeLarosa blows her out of the water with her willingness to help students and wanting students to do well.Take DeLarosa if you can!
This class is hard, but she is a NICE person (unlike the alternative). She does care about students but you do have to teach yourself regardless of who you get. Professor Grant wants you to do well. Her tests are hard but she is fair. I think she is a great professor.
Hard class, but she is nice and very helpful.
Incredible useless teacher. Always "busy" to help students. Class time - 60% of her personal life.I am agree: Students be prepared to teach yourself, lose time and money.
She is unorganized, to busy to help you, and takes forever to responed to email.
The class most about her "smartness" 30 years ago when she finally earned her CPA and history of her personal life. I have tired to listen every week this junk. I want my money back and reimburesement for my time. Worst of all instructors in the GVSU
worst teacher ever. tried meeting up with her many times but she's always too busy, then she just blows you off. terrible teacher.
no matter who you take this class from, you have to teach yourself. that is the point of the class. it's true she spends most of the time on her personal life but if you work hard on the project and ask for help it's not too bad
Not good professor. Expects that students already have a mastery of the concepts. Goes off topic in lectures regularly. Difficult to meet with and was rude when finally met with. Due to the lack of class time and the professor, students must teach themselves.
She regularly went off topic in lectures. Project is hard but she gives checkpoint numbers throughout the semester. Quizzes and final were very easy. Just your basic accounting knowledge.
This professor is terrible. She is very unhelpful. Her classes had nothing to do with the SUA, which took me over 40 hours to complete. She will not respond to your e-mail except for snide comments. She did not leave the room for evaluations but stared at the people rating her. Do Not Take Her! Worst Accounting professor at Grand Valley.
Has her favorites. "Willing" to help if you are one of them. Otherwise forget about help to avoid her rude and unintelligent attitude. Extremely overconfident on "her way" to teach accounting ( most of the class time about her personal borring life and her 30-years old smartiness). GVSU should have big stick to push out her to an early retirement.
rude, unorganized, and wastes time talking about personal life. Every negative comment I've read on this page is true. Who is reading the teacher evals turned in? How is this lady still here? She got into a verbal argument with me because I pointed out her many flaws, as shown on this page, to her.
does this lady know how to email u back!! i have no respect for RITA!! what a $!%!#$%
I agree with the ratings below. Rita is an egotistical maniac. She does this to cover up the fact that she is ignorant, and a poor teacher. She cuts down others to make herself feel good. YES--she stayed in the room during evaluations. I think this is a BIG NO NO, and I am going to report her!!
Class should be called "Personal life of Rita Grant and some extraction from accounting". Yes, she is in the class during an evaluation. If you have an argument about the grade in her office: record on the tape her very rude monolog (she would not let you even talk.) . Otherwise she will represent everything as "misunderstanding" and make you bad
Rita grant is ridiculous. Absolutely the worst professor I’ve ever had in my life. First off the class should be worth more than one credit. I put more into the project than any of my other classes. All Rita does is complain and talk about how great her son is and doesn’t teach any accounting.
I wouldn't even call her a professor. She stands up there and says shes your boss. Very unapproachable. She forgot my SUA packet in her office and when i went to pick it up she started to yell at me and told me that I was really starting to piss her off. She was the one that made the mistake. DO NOT TAKE HER. What people are saying is really true.
Not sure why all the ratings are under review i guarantee they are all horrible ratings and are all very true. Dont take rita grant.
Unwilling to help, she prefers to talk about her son and how great she is and how dumb everyone else is. Complete waste of tuition.
This was the MOST pointless class ever with the WORST prof EVER! I thought that I would be able to learn something new, the only thing I learned was that she had a son, and that she didn't care about her students. Also, she thinks that you are stupid if you ask a question. Our class had to go to the dean with problems with this prof. DO NOT TAKE!!
Talks more about her family than class material. Runs out of time during lacture. I would rather study by my self than have her as a prof. Does not care about her students. Comes to class like she just got out of bed five minutes ago.
On the POSITIVE side she is a very nice person and always there to help you. Now on the NEGATIVE side I LITERALLY did not learn a single thing all semester. All she talked about ALL semester long was her family. I'm now out 2 MONTHS SALARY for taking her class not to mention all the gas money to drive to Allendale. Not Fair! AVOID at all costs!
One of the worst professors I have ever had. Makes the material confusing and makes your feel studid if you ask questions. One particular class period she lets us out early and told the class if we had any questions to come see her after class. At least 50% of the class went to her office after class.
IT is absolutely wasting time and tuition to attend her class. Instead of teaching, she prefers to talk more about her son than class material. She thinks she is smarter than anyone else.
The class is easy if you have a strong understanding of Accounting principles. There is no book for the class so you may want to try to find someone who has an old priciples book to help you with some of the transactions. Overall she is a decent professor however she does have a way with making you feel stupid if you ask a question.
I went with her and Dr. Goldberg to London this past summer. She was extremely nice and was always there if we needed help. The trip was fun and if you get an opportunity-go!!
At first seems impossible, but the class gets easier as you learn how she teaches. Doesn't handle "stupid" questions well. I would recommend her because she knows her stuff and attempts to actually teach it. Will let you know what big problems will be on the test and unannounced quizzes make up large part of grade, so go to class!
Rita is an alright prof. She def knows her stuff and is pretty funny at times. She expects you to know a lot though, but on a test if you screw up on a part that is used for more than one thing, she'll dock you for it once. Go to class, pay attention, and study for the tests, and you should be ok.
Going to class was a waste of time, except for the quizzes every class. She spent 2 classes the whole semester actually teaching accounting. The rest were spent talking about her family or trying to counsel/advise. She seems like she knows her stuff, but spent no time sharing it to the class. Grade is based on project, quizzes and an easy final exam
Pretty hard class I thought. I just didn't get it so did not do well on the tests which make up most of your grade. Also has unannounced quizzes so don't want to miss those. She knows the material well, I just didn't think she explained it clearly enough.
She tells you almost everything that is going to be on tests just pay attention. Warns you before quizes, and is extremely generous on them (3 of the 7 quizes she either just gave full credit or gave us the answers). Classes are extremely boing though, she gets off topic alot and talks about her family every class. I would recommend her though.
I taught myself everything needed for the tests and that is how I passed. She does not teach the subject well. She goes off topic so much on stuff that very rarely relates. Her teaching methods were fuzzy, and I spent more time trying to figure out where she was coming from more than on what she was saying. I would not recommend.
I taught myself everything in this class. She knows her stuff but doesn't really communicate it to the student at all- more time is spent talking about off hand topics. Quiz's & tests were difficult..I think the average grades were around 60-70. Do not reccomend
She is a good prof. you MUST do the reading and everything she says in class will help you better understand what you read. Very fair teacher. Warns before quizzes and tells you everything that will be on the test. DO your homework and read and you will do fine in the class.
Completely unable to stay on topic. Rarely talks about accounting for more than 3 consecutive minutes. Also often has contradicted herself as far as how the Practice Set for the class is completed, since she often talks about how she thinks it should be done instead. I would not recommend.
Don't take this class if you're an accounting major. It's nothing but a rehash of basic international accounting from your intro classes and the professor only wants to talk about her family and her personal life. No textbook and prof. doesn't teach you ANYthing. Take this in grad school if you really care bout Int'l Accounting.
Prof. Grant gets a bad rap, and it is kinda unfair. First I'll go through what's bad about her. She talks a lot about herself and her family and can sometimes be a major b. If she doesn't like you, watch out. Sometimes it seems like shes not teaching. The good: she is a good advisor, and knows accounting well, and can help sometimes.
All I can say is that I no longer have any interest in her class because of her attitude towards students she doesn't hold in high regard. She is obviously extremely knowledgeable in her field, but is very aware of it and thus blatantly arrogant. I will arrange my future schedules to make sure I never have her again.
She's hands down the rudest Prof(and person) I've ever had. Hardly spends ANY class time teaching and talks about herself/her family. Appears nice, but belittles you when you ask a question. Hardly takes any time to help outside class and only responds to emails if she feels like it. Gets paid to do nothing. I will NEVER TAKE HER AGAIN.
All she does is complain about her life. Offers little help to students. Bitches alot.
Expects you to know Principles I & II concepts. Class pretty much introduces Accounting on Computers. She said she wants the class to be 2 credits, but it's only 1. Career planning project is helpful. She can be a little demeaning sometimes. Meet with her and get on her good side.
Talks about herself the whole class. Expects you to be perfect in accounting at the 200 level. Quiz almost every class, and doesn't explain anything. Yells at you if you ask questions, because she thinks you're stupid if you can't figure it out. Shes terrible
Never explained stuff clearly. Students are always emailing each other asking how to do something or when something is due cuz she doesn't respond to emails and doesn't like to make time for you. When I asked her for help on an assignment 4 days before it was due, she told me she didn't have time and I was on my own. Needs to get off her throne.
Useless professor. I would recommend finding people in class to work with because she is no help. Does not respond to emails and is not interested in teaching. She will not email you/post grades/put up documents on bb that she says she will. I learned more about her/her family than accounting. Make sure you find people to work with/help you!
Professor Grant is a disgrace to the school of business and to the accounting profession. She does a major disservice to GVSU students and it's a miracle that she's still teaching. This class is a GPA sink, a waste of time, and should be more than 1 credit hour. Grant herself is a worthless teacher. Acct. majors avoid till its open w/ De La Rosa.
Uses handouts instead of a book to teach the class, is easily frustrated and short with students. In my opinion may well be borderline personality disorder. If asking her questions or explaining tardiness or absence, forget about it, she will go out of her way to insult your intelligence or value as a person. Frequently shares her family experience
Likes to infuse family stories into lecture. Not terribly difficult class, you will know what is on the test by looking at the examples she gives.
Class is hard...lots of little details. Rita was a good prof, she explained this well, but didn't do too many examples. Get on her good side, not just you but the class on her good side. Study, do the hwk, and the class is alright.
Majority of grade based on Seaside. She barely taught. There's no book to study from either. Go to her office hours for help with seaside and you'll be fine. But, if you want to learn something, take someone else. She inflates grades I got an A-, no clue how
By far the rudest and useless prof at GV. Besides everything else everyone says on here about her, she also makes things way more complicated that it needs to be. The class would be easy if we didn't have to use Seaside Marina. I literally got in a verbal argument with her after she was insulting me and calling me all sorts of names. Unprofessional
Inflexable, rude, arrogant. By war the worst professor I have been exposed to at Grand Valley.
Not an effective teacher. Don't bother emailing her you will either get a one word response or none at all. She likes to talk about her kids more than the course material.
Very demeaning, only likes those who literally kiss butt and those who don't ask many questions.I have always been a good student/gotten along with my Professors. She is really difficult to get help from, and the only help you do get is very reluctant unless you're one of her favorites. She really is a disgrace to teaching,if that's even what she does.
Unprofessional. She was often unprepared for lecture and had trouble focusing on the material. Sometimes there were questions on the exams that she had gone over hardly at all. She also handled questions very poorly, either not answering or talking too much. Talked about her family all the time during class and was rude to students.
Her attitude to students is complete unacceptable. She had excuses nearly every class for not doing her job. Appears to get a thrill out of talking down to students. Unbelievably arrogant and cocky. Don't bother asking for help, since you won't get it. I will do my best to avoid her at all costs from hereon.
She will make you loathe the tenure system. She is absolutely worthless, disrespectful and conceited. To "get on her good side", you must have such lack of self worth that you will put up will all her verbal abuse. Preparing us for the real world? The real world is not getting paid to do nothing at a public university. An absolute disgrace.
She doesn't follow the syllabus and gets upset at students who do. She doesn't reply to e-mails. Rarely teaches and when she does it's unsystematically. She will spend significant time talking about her family, who you will find out is rich and hates paying taxes. She has constant excuses and is very rude to students. GVSU should be ashamed...
She doesn't teach, barely goes over the material. Class is a waste of time. The only reason I learned is because I taught myself from the textbook. Always shows up late w/ a new excuse. For an upper level class, GVSU should expect more out of their professors. She may know what SHE's doing, but doesn't help you.
Although many students hate that Professor Grant is a very opinionated individual, I personally think that she is an amazing teacher because of it. I have had her for two classes now and absolutely love the fact that she doesn't tolerate stupidity. Usually not an easy A, but if you want to actually learn the material covered she's a great choice!
You have to teach yourself everything. In a generally unpleasant mood most the time. Does not update grades on BB or email you very often, probably doesn't care either.
She is the reason I hate tenure. She never taught in class, so I had to learn EVERYTHING from the book. However, she believes the book is wrong and will mark you down for writing an answer straight from the book. We're supposed to teach ourselves from the BOOK, but then mark us down for using answers from the BOOK???
Class were really a waste of time. She spends most of her time talking about her family. She doesn't respond to emails. Pretty easy class, but she's not a good teacher.
Lecture didn't help to contribute to learning, because it was scattershot. She's not interesting in teaching, but more in counseling and guiding her students. Waste of time/money.
Let me say this as plain as I can possible put this, Prof. Grant is DISRESPECTFUL & the worst professor I have EVER had. She concerns herself with matters that don't concern her. She likes to act superior but is truly very insecure. Overall, she?s condescending toward her students. She literally treats her grown adult university students as if they
Is verbally abusive to students, accepts no excuses for anything. But constantly has excuses for anything that she does not do. Generally a poor teacher, that is relatively unavoidable.
TERRIBLE. Our class meets for 1 hr a week and it is wasted with excuses as to why she did not post our tests or why she brought the wrong material to class AGAIN. She does not respond to emails and treats you like a moron if you have a question. Worst professor at GVSU! Avoid like the plague.
AVOID!! Unfortunately, I couldn't avoid her as she was the only professor who taught the course. She doesn't respond to emails and the material was all over the place. I was confused throughout the entire course.
Condescending and disrespectful to students. She does not teach- you have to teach yourself. She does not explain- you have to guess at what she wants you to do. She is unfocused and rude. She belittles students and has no desire to see students succeed. Avoid if you can!
Talks down to students. Have to teach yourself. She is also the only teacher who teaches in the fall and winter, so tough luck. Not a difficult class so you can easily teach yourself. Lastly, this class is very early so get used to waking up before the sun rises if you want to attend class.
Never responded to e-mails and talked about how great her family is on a regular basis. Very intimidating and just seemed like an angry person overall. Class is easy enough to teach yourself, but be sure to avoid her for upper level courses like 311.
Worst Professor I have had at Grand Valley. Condescending and not the least bit helpful. Doesn't ever answer emails and is very hard to get in touch with if you ever need help. She complained about students missing class when she herself missed more class than any of the students. Very disrespectful. Take with someone else.
She has high expectations, & rightly so. Most helpful prof I have encountered at GV, inside & outside the classroom. Read the book. Don't just send an e-mail and wait for a response when that is what office hours are for. Best prof I have had. Real life experiences made class interesting. Take her if you're serious about a career in accting.
Not as bad as i thought, she picks favorites but it's good to learn how to work with people like that. Doesn't teach but a basic understanding of accounting got me an A
I dropped after the first month. I wish I had had a better prof. I want to pursue accounting and taking it again will count as a repeat. She had said to do certain things by certain times and when I asked her to repeat the things and times she refused, and told me how lazy I was, and how I needed to pay attention and grow up.
I asked her to repeat what she said that she wanted for the next week.I was told "NO" to "GROW UP"(im thirty) and "TRY PAYING ATTENTION". The next week another student did the same thing. She looked over him at me saw that I was watching(to see what she would do) and she helped him gladly. I was literally jawdropped. She saw and smirked. I dropped.
Don't buy the book I haven't even opened it yet and the class is over. She stays in the room and walks through the aisles during evaluations so I was forced to give her a good grade. She is not a good teacher makes everyone feel dumb. Very disrespectful and rude at least I know I will never have to take her again.
Hands down the rudest person ever, very disrespect and unprofessional. Basically tells you straight up, that she will not help you with assignments.... Not sure how she still has a job at GVSU.
Rita can be intimidating, but she knows what she is teaching very well and really tries to help you prepare for the real world. Would recommend and will take again.
Very kind, caring, and willing to help. Pay attention and do your work and she will respect you and help you. She's really a genuinely nice person and a nice alternative to some of the other professors for intermediate accounting...
This professor is VERY rude. She makes you feel stupid! She mentioned in class she will gladly help you if you need it. But when I went to her office and tried to get a better understanding of the assignment she said, " yeah, thats what I told you to do." She answered from heOUr door. She is not inviting. DOES NOT HELP. RUDE. LOOKS DOWN ON YOU!
TERRIBLE PROFESSOR!!!!! She never emailed me back even though she said she would help any student that needed help. She was rude and mean. DO NOT TAKE HER OR YOU WILL DIE.
Excellent professor. Really wants to see students succeed, and does everything is her power to allow for that if she is asked.
Not a great teacher at all. Avoid for all classes if possible.
Had her as a professor at UGA in 1977. Very hard tests and impossible final. I also had her for Cost Accting. Passed CPA exam in one sitting. I give her a lot of credit.
She is VERY intimidating. The class wasn't actually that difficult just make sure to get on her good side and don't be late.
UNORGANIZED. Just said random things in class that were hard to connect to much. Made studying hard. Talks like you already should know all of it. Talks about herself and her family most of the time. Multiple choice on the tests are super hard. If you ask a question she is incredibly rude about it and makes you look dumb. No curve. Teach yourself.
Class is entirely based on Seaside Marina. She expects you to know a lot from ACC 212. If you score an 80 or above on the trial balance you're ready for ACC 310. If you don't, she will write a note on your paper to come see her and one on one with you until you understand the accounting concepts. Life pathway project is easy points.
If you can take someone else, do so. She's extremely unorganized, unclear about her expectations, doesn't explain things well, usually makes a mistake or two on exams or quizzes (which are pop), constantly talks about her family and her money. I never knew exactly what to study for an exam. Worst professor I ever had. Be ready to teach yourself.
Rita Grant is the head of the accounting department and a great prof to know, but her lectures were hard for me to follow since I like seeing things written down and she mostly just talks. In the beginning she gave us a lot of homework but lightened it significantly when she realized how much it was. She wouldn't be my first choice or my last.
Pretty boring classes. Lot's of talking, not a lot of information
Like the way she teaches. Thumbs up!
Time management is something you aren't going to get with Grant. Overall, the class was easy. 2 exams, some class response papers, and a time-consuming financial analysis; seriously, don't wait on that one. A lot of the time, she just waived assignments bc we didn't have time. Lectures are a drag, and you won't learn much, but it's an easy class.
I took her hybrid ACC 240 class, and Seaside took a lot of time. We only had four class meetings, and those were pretty much a waste of time as she put up videos later. She has a bad habit of putting videos up late, and she may not respond to your emailed questions well (she only answered one of my two). Be prepared to teach yourself a lot.
Class is not very hard. Put in the work and you should be fine. Seaside is a pain and takes a long time but isn't very hard work. Come to class and do the work and its an easy A.
Took her for the hybrid ACC240. She is a very smart professor who is able to explain the class concepts succinctly. The Seaside project is the core of the class. It can be time consuming but she puts up videos that explain a lot. Don't attempt to turn in stuff late. Pay attention in class and watch the videos and you will do well.
Rita loves to babble about things that don't actually help you prepare for her brutal exams. She doesn't actually explain anything, so be ready to learn it all on your own. Be ready for very vague instructions on papers, and be watching the syllabus for deadlines that she will never mention.
You have to know your stuff, she doesnt assign HW for a grade because she expects everyone to be on top of everything. Shes very upfront about everything, gives detailed lectures, and tells you what you need to know. Shes been doing this a long time, she knows it like the back of her hand.
Don't listen to these other reviews. Rita is a great professor that is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to accounting. The topics in this class are complex and tedious so be prepared to do a lot of practicing. For the most part she bases her exams off her online lecture/notes. There are no curve balls but she expects everyone to be prepared.
I would follow this woman to the gates of H#L. She cares greatly for her students. Sure, she can go off on tangents... but, if you read the material (learn-smart makes this easy) and pay attention in class you should do well. She is concise with her lectures and is always willing to help outside of class. She keeps it real!
This class was so unorganized. On the bright side, she couldn't figure out how to get the quizzes on blackboard so we did not have to those. For being a hybrid class and only meeting in person twice, she DOES NOT respond to emails which is so frustrating!!! especially cause she is so unclear on due dates and what she wants.
She had problems with her video tutorials and couldnt figure out the problem so we were left almost the whole semester with nothing to do. She uploaded everything for the class when there was a month left of class And wouldnt respond to emails so the whole class was left wondering what to do. Horrible professor
MOST DISRESPECTFUL PROFESSOR AT GV. She belittles her students and is not very open to helping her students succeed in the classroom or through the internship process as she is the head of the accounting department. She makes you feel stupid for asking for help when that is what professors are supposed to be there for their students. VERY RUDE!!!
I took the hybrid ACC 240 class with Professor Grant and I was very disappointed. We did not even start the class until we only had a month left of school. Grant did not give any instructions on what we were supposed to do or how we were supposed to use the course pack. If I reached out for help it was days before Prof Grant answered.
This class is so confusing. I have no idea what I am doing. She is so unclear on what she wants. This will probably be the first class I fail since I've been in college and I get all As and Bs. She had computer problems at the beginning of the semesters and just recently uploaded videos. I'll probably have to retake this class with another prof.
Absolutely terrible. The lectures have nothing to do with the Course Packet. Even though the packet is over half your grade. She only gave our class a month to do everything with no guidance from her. And, fun fact, you need a B- to pass the class to do anymore Accounting classes at GVSU. AND she's one of the only Profs to teach it.
I took her hybrid class and she couldnt figure out how to actually upload the videos that were supposed to help us w our semester long project(and only grade) until finally did w a month left of school. and her videos were useless + she doesnt respond to emails on time so you gotta figure it out all by yourself with no instruction
She's an awful professor. It was literally a month before the semester ends that she finally posted the videos up to help us with the project. However, her videos were unhelpful and her instructions were unclear. It sucks because this is our only grade and you need a B- to pass in order to take higher level accounting classes.
Absolutely terrible professor. This class is supposed to be one big project, and she pushes the whole project back until the last month of class. Then on top of that, she doesn't respond to emails. Then when you do go to office hours, she is no help. Unfortunately she is the only professor who teaches this. Good luck if you need to take this class.
The worst professor in my entire college career. Like others here I took her Hybrid ACC 240 class in Fall 2019. FOR 3 MONTHS she did not assign hw or do anything!!! She supposedly had technical difficulties and was sick all semester. She belittles the students when we ask for help. Got a C so will have to buy the book AGAIN and retake the class..
I have an Associates degree in Accounting and this class was one of the hardest things I've ever done. The class is a big packet of mess, and she gives no guidance while trying to work through it. Never answers questions clearly. Not to mention it's a hybrid class so you're left to figure it out on your own. If you can avoid her, do it at all costs
I thought Prof. Grant was going to be hard based on these ratings but she tried real hard as this year we had this COVID-19 and moved everything online. If you are really nice to here and willing to come for help, she WILL definitely help you one on one. I thought I was going to fail mid-semester but I bounced back and passed the class when helped.
Professor Grant is a terrible professor to take if you enjoy accounting. She doesn't teach the material at all and expects you to learn it all on your own. She spends every class period talking about herself ,how successful she is and how much money she has. Very mean to students when they don't do well on exams. She will ruin accounting.
Her class was just a mess, no real instruction on this giant mess of a packet and when we did meet in class(it was hybrid) she never talked about the project only herself for the most part. She put in no grades till the last few weeks of class which was very stressful. If I can avoid a class with Rita Grant I will.
I don't typically leave reviews for professors but after reading Professor Grant's reviews I felt I had to. I am in the middle of taking her ACC240 class right now and it is nothing like what others have described. It is organized and the material is easy. Grant is to the point in her online videos which I love. Too many professors are long winded!
If you have to take this class all online don't take it. She doesn't explain anything and expects you to already know everything. One of the worst teachers I have ever had, if you can take it with someone else or somewhere else I would do that.
this prof was so rude and not helpful at all whenever I would email her. there are 4 major assignments that you will probably not know how to do. the only way I survived was because I was in a big group chat that helped me out throughout the semester. the quizzes are short and simple but it still seemed like a ton of work for a 1 credit class.
She was very rude to my peers and I when we would have questions. Not sure if she normally does online courses or not, but she didn't seem to care about us students at all. I'm an accounting major and did fairly good in the class, but beware when asking questions. All your assignments and formatting better be perfect. Good luck.
Rita can be very rude if you email her and ask for clarification. She will most likely refer you back to the awful lecture videos she posted. she reposts videos from previous weeks. She expects you to remember everything from ACC 212/213, and won't clarify anything if you need it Make a group chat otherwise you won't pass. 10/10 would NOT reccomend
As other students said previously, Prof. Grant is really rude. The feedback that she DOES give you (when she responds to your emails) is unclear and makes you feel stupid. She showed no compassion or grace towards any of her students even though we're trying to navigate through a pandemic in our early 20s. Now I have to pay to take the class again.
She was not helpful at all yet, she is the online professor who teaches this class. Also, Grand Valley needs to find a new way to present the class being paper-based was difficult and not up to date with the times.
Professor Grant is straight to the point, and it may come off as rude for some students but the materials taught in this class are real life problems. Follow instructions and ask questions when you need clarification!
Worst professor I have had so far at GVSU. This class was all online due to covid. She never answers emails, and when she does, she replies with really snappy responses such as one word answers. She did not answer my emails for a month and a half. Honestly avoid her.
ACC 212 is a hard course to begin with but prof Grant is not good at responding to emails or putting grades in. Her video lectures are not easy to follow. It is the end of the semester and only 3 exams are in BB and none of the homework assignments, was told to basically calculate them myself to see overall grade. Avoid her as much as u can.
Takes forever to put in grades, can be extremely rude in emails, and makes a difficult class even more difficult than it should be, would recommend anyone but Grant
Prof. Rita is a prime example of why tenure needs to be eliminated at universities. She is an absolutely awful professor. She never responds to emails, and shell forget about emails that you explicitly sent her. R IS FOR RETIRE, Rita...
Prof Grant seems bored and annoyed to be teaching and shes not very personal. Content is posted somewhat inconsistently and youre expected to know everything, so she doesnt offer a ton of instruction. The class itself was much more work than expected for 1 credit - youre only graded on a few things so dont fall behind or miss deadlines.
She doesnt give much instructions at all for any of the assignments. She offers plenty of resources to teach yourself but does very little herself. Working with your classmates is gonna be your best bet because she does not enjoy answering questions.
She cool.
Worst professor Ive ever had. Doesnt teach at all and expects you to remember everything from acc 212. Doesnt care about students at all, and responds to emails with sass and anger, as if she hates her life. Makes this 1 credit class very hard. She is the only prof for this class, so get some friends to help each other out, bc she wont
Worst prof Ive had at GV. Doesnt teach at all and just posts like 10 minute videos talking about what you need to do, but doesnt explain how to do it. Is EXTREMELY rude, even called me not smart in a comment on an assignment. Super disrespectful and makes the class very difficult and stressful.
She is the worst professor Ive had at GV. I genuinely wonder how shes made it this far in life with her apparent lack of social skills. Consider yourself warned if youre unlucky enough to have to deal with this wannabe professor.
