I love this professor. She is a great teacher and gave me a great start to my history degree. She knows her stuff.
her classes are challenging and her grading policy is beyond fair. her tests are all written essays that she grades on what you hav learned. excellent teacher
Great teacher, but extremely high-strung. Too emotional and confrontational with students. She knows her stuff, though.
great teacher- first impression was femminist but i was wrong- all test are blue book and you will get writers cramp on them- they also may only be 5 questions but you will take the whole class-great talks in class also
THE BEST PROFESSOR, PERIOD. SHE IS THE BEST HISTORY TEACHER IN THE WORLD, SO TOP THAT!
Yes, I will top that. Dr. Heller is THE BEST PROFESSOR IN THE WORLD! Thank you.
Tuff good, But can play favorites at times. I never spent more then 30 minutes on her test and still earned an A!!! classes '92-'93.
dr.heller is a very good professor, she explains everything in great detail and goes out of her way to help students understand better
I think Prof. Heller is one of the worst prof I have ever had! Not academically, she is good at what she does as far as teaching goes. But her attitude sucks! and that is what makes her a horriable prof.
Very nice lady, but she's very hyper! She likes to call on people randomly so it's good to read the work she assigned. She is very blunt if you give an answer she is not looking for she will def. let you know.
Great teacher. Had her last semester. Her test are very fair, all essays but not that bad at all.
I HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH HER EXCEPT THE FACT THAT SHE BOUNCES AROUND WITH THE MATERIAL A LITTLE BIT BUT i FOUND HER VERY SNOBY AND RUDE TO OTHER STUDENTS. dON'T GET ON HER BAD SIDE. ESSAY TEST, BUT FAIR WITH GRADES IF YOU GO TO CLASS. dONT MISS ALOT OF CLAS
She just went very fast and bypassed the things we actually WANTED to learn. Her tests were ok but since they're all essay format, your hand would hurt before you were half done. Showed a movie every class that went along with lesson. Plays favorites...
Great Prof, totally inspiring and informative. Would jump at the chance to take another class with her!
I think your all on drugs if you loved this professor. If you can avoid her do so.I learned a lot because of the readings we did and some of the assignments. But it was really a teach myself class. But she is rude, arrogant, conceided, has fav,& i hated her
Learned a lot. Good teacher, very knowledgeable. Plays favorites a lot and is totally in love with herself. Talks about herself a lot. Rude if she doesn't like you or if you don't kiss her butt. I wouldn't take her again but I did learn a lot from her class about American Women. Not unbearable.
great person...class is a little hard of understanding unless u like history. She made me like history. she is a verrrry easy grader and she is a sweet heart..good class reccommend it to everyone
Blue-books on all tests & some participation required. Professor has a scattered manner, but lets you know what's on the tests, gives lots of opportunities to improve your grade (ie. participation and e.c.) & shows many videos.
What the hell is up with this women. She is sooo in love with herself. She also treats the class like they are students in a high school class. She needs to get over herself and realise we are COLLEGE STUDENTS and whistling is not how to get the class to listen to u
the whistling is annoying, goes off into her own little world talking about things that arent important to the test. write down what she says, and listen carefully because she tells you whats going to be asked on the tests. it was very easy if you just pay attention to her rants, and remember pg #s
WHISTLEING WILL DRIVE YOU MAD! But manages to keep a good discution and is reasonable with makeups and extra credit.
What a WITCH!! She had the nerve to show a movie on Yom Kippour, even though she wasn't there, and then put an essay question on the mid-term about that movie. There are Jews that go to CCM too.........
Dr. Heller was a good teacher, but she was hard... yet she was fair & gave you many chances to bring up your grade... when a person walked into the room when they were late she would always say something fair, but picky
I thought Dr. Heller was an excelent teacher.
Never stays on topic! is a puritan! she thinks liberals tear out the hearts of young babies. She loves to do the talking and keep everyone silent. her opinion is God. She says you can disagree with her, but when you do she lambasts you self absorbed in love with herself narcaist.

This lady is horrible. She always says "I'm a historian, not a disiplinary", and she gets in peoples faces. She treats people like they're in highschool and her essay exams really stink.
she would never let any slack to a single person...she would never let an opportunity slide away without demoralizing anybody...if you dont have a concrete answer or excuse for something she will rip into you like a malnourished and mistreated dog...tear you to pieces if she doesnt like the way you look, unless your a good brown-noser...then she would give you a little slack...NEVER BE LATE!!!
SHE SUCKS. she doesnt help, shes mean, she treats you like youre 10 years old. she always starts class and administers tests 15 minutes prior to the beginning of class. HORRIBLE teacher.
shes a wack job. she always starts class early so we can get out early but we never do. she always says that shes a historian not a cop and treats us like we're ten. i asked for extra help and she told me i shouldnt have missed that one class. shes beyond a last resort as a teacher. dont take her class.
The biggest wackjob I have ever had. Egomaniac, mean, nasty, so full of herself she could explode. Treats students like they're dogs. Avoid!
sitting threw her class was like pulling teeth, don't piss her off she will be on your back the rest of the semeter. She treats everyone like they are in 8th grade, and her essay test are every hard
rude, mean, nasty, makes you feel like you are two inches big. full of herself and claims be "nationally known" for documentaries...uncaring and doesnt give a crap about what you learn, she only cares about hearing her self talk!! I would never recommend takeing her class
No Comments
The only way you will get through this class is if you show up to every class, write down EVERYTHING she talks about, and act like you are interested. If you go in with a bad attitude, she will be on your @$$ like white on rice. The only reason I did okay on the first test was because someone else in the class is taking it again & gave hints.
okay shes a lunatic but if you have good butt kissing capabilities its worth it and shes a push over..she gives only essay tests which suck but she tells you the questions on them before and my class always got her to take the questions we didnt want to do off..its not that bad -praise her, smile, and suck it up-ull get a b =)
shes no fun
Dr. Heller is an excellent professor and highly respected. She is very knowledgeable and passionate about what she teaches. Makes the honors students feel special and keeps students interested. Good teaching skills and you can learn alot from her essay tests. If you take her class seriously, show up and study hard you will do well.
Never in my life have I had the misfortune of dealing with a more unplesant woman.. Wastes most of the class ****ing about how much time we(the students)waste.. Your usually guarenteed a student or two to butt heads with the teacher but when she fights with everyone except one or two you realize you have yourself a****ty teacher.. DO NOT TAKE!!!
she assigns short reports on the chapters, handouts, and data-base reports, but she likes to add her 2 cents, so be prepared for her to interrupt you during your presentation. her written exams aren't too difficult, if you study.
I am not sure what to say. She is bizarre and totally unclear about everything. She will start before the class begins and then get annoyed when people walk in. She never stays on one topic and she also makes you feel stupid if you don't know the answer to a question. All her exams are essays. DON'T TAKE HER!! If you want to learn take someone else
I am not sure what to say. She is bizarre and only finds her jokes funny. Hardly smiles or laughs. She favors the "smart" kids and makes the rest of us feel stupid. She issues "time outs" if people are talking and never stays on one topic. The lecture always comes to revolve around her. Tests are all essays. NEVER TAKE HER IF YOU WANT TO LEARN!!!
HORRIBLE attitude. treats all students like garbage. she's legit psychotic.
In one word, arrogance defines this"professor." Loves to hear herself talk about herself, yet presents actual material poorly. Should be banned from teaching classes such as "History of Minorities." Takes pride in being informed on race relations, yet acts like a semitic supremacist. On one occasion only one student passed a test of hers! Stay away
very mean, who cares if you have 3 degrees in history if it was important you would't be teaching at a community college, focus on teaching not bragging and treating your students like crap. She will fail you if she doesn't like you had to drop that worst prof. ive ever had do not take her shes horrible
Do Not Take History of American Women with her!U will regret it!First off,she doesn't stay on topic & the book u need for class is way to difficult. She gives Blue book exams, which mean essays & there not easy. She doesn't tell u exactly wut u need to study, only chapters, which can be up to 60-100pgs long. I would get a tutor & really read/take notes
Had her for HIS167 and liked her... If you come into class with a good attitude and don't goof off she would have no reason to "bother" you. No professor likes a class clown. Respect her and she'll respect you back. She may be a bit narcissistic and whatnot but she's a pretty darn good professor and knows her stuff.
I have taken Dr. Heller three times for three different classes. She is incredibly knowledgeable in women's history and U.S. history. People tend not to love her because she doesn't just HAND you an A, you have to earn it. However if you put the time into the class (reading etc.) you'll actually learn something and you'll be a better person for it.
good teacher you will learn from her shes a ver smart woman
failed me for missing too many classes. didnt say a word to me. i come in and take the final and still doesnt say anything to me. i have to find out once the final grades are posted and its too late. i feel like she has it out for her students...if your not obsessed with her subjects she teachs, its a snooze fest.
sweet lady her classes are hard but shes a good teacher<333333
Dr. Heller is awesome! I felt empower as she would ask in her class with all the knowlegde I gain in her class.
I took Women's History with Dr. Heller. I think that her time has come to retire. She is very scatter-brained and gets off topic a lot. She does not use the short amount of time wisely and usually lectures on irrelevant subjects. She expects you to know things that she never went over and does not always answer important questions.
okay teacher. as long as you write something on the tests she will give you a D or above
She's a good teacher as long as you pay attention and read what she tells you to in the book. She'll get off topic but she'll always go over what you need to know for the tests. Make sure you can go into detail during her essay writing tests as she looks to see if you've read and taken notes and you should get at least a B.
I had Prof Heller for US II, she does go a bit off topic but is extremely intelligent in her field. Always willing to answer questions and does prefer a lot of writing on essays. Show up, show a lil respect and no phones. I got an A in her class and would def take her again for another history class.
very tough grader and she's al ways strict so be prepared
worst teacher I've ever had by far
Dr. Heller is the best!! I have learned more from her than any other professor! She is very fair, and cares about teaching you. If you come to class prepared, pay attention, and show some respect, you will have no problems. All test are blue book, so she really wants to find out what you've learned. I've taken her twice, and will do so again!
Worst teacher i've ever had hands down in college and even highschool i like history and i've never rated a professor before but she encouraged me to do so, she is always off topic, expects you to know alot about something she never mentioned very condescending it is time for her to retire **Avoid if possible!
Dr. Heller is an excellent instructor and brings American history alive with her personal comments. It is important to pay attention in class, take complete lecture notes and to supplement lectures with recommended textbook. She is fair and understanding and is available to help. I recommend her class to serious students.
Probably one of the WORST classes I've ever taken! She's such a TERRIBLE professor and she makes learning about history extremely boring! She's reaaaally mean & her tests are hard! I hate her so much! AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COST!
This women is a walking nightmare. The most rude, outlandish professor I've ever witnessed. Her lessons are poorly prepared and comes in late and will waste your time with nonsense. Expects you know the material, but won't go over it in detail. Her tests are poorly constructed and she expects people to know word for word information. Save yourself.
It is important for student to attend class, take notes, and read textbook. It is also important to be respectful. Dr. Heller was available for assistance and instructed well. Student success is not possible without effort.
I've taken Dr. Heller for 2 classes so far, and was highly disappointed I was unable to get into her minorities class. I see alot of unfair critics on here. If you come prepared, and pay attention, you should have no problems taking her class. I've found, those who do not like her, are the ones who expect to be handed an A without giving the effort
I loved Dr. Heller's classes. She is very fair, and always willing to give extra help. For those who would say she goes off topic, those times are usually intertwined with the course work, and current events. I would highly recommend her courses for any serious history student! I look forward to taking her other classes!
Dr. Heller is a great teacher. She is highly skilled in her field, and always willing to give extra help. I also enjoyed her class projects, two group readings, and immigration reports were a lot of fun. Anyone who loves history should definitely take her classes. I learned more in a semester with her, than any teacher I've had before.
You have to show up to class to get the lecture notes: she doesn't post them on blackboard. Lectures are the main points of the book &the chapters you are required to know. Very passionate about teaching and cares about you learning. Test are open ended but gives outline of info that will be on the test. Just put time into studying&you will be fine
People bash her a lot on here-truthfully shes a great teacher-boring-Gets off topic A LOT and kinda strange at times, but she means well and is a really sweet lady-Pay attention in class, and make SURE you read- A lot of the test questions come from the text, and specific points given in her lectures-But she really is a good overall teacher
AWFUL. Not helpful, and is harsh on her students. I advise, PLEASE DON'T TAKE ANY OF HER COURSES. Even though she rarely gives out homework, the essay exams are awful. She has questions on her exams that she only discussed in class once, and expects you to remember it. She takes everything on the defensive side, not worth it.
Honestly, don't take her class if you don't have to. Not worth it at all. She's very rude and she'll ramble forever. She insulted a lot of people in my class and basically implied a student was s#xist. I ignored the rates, thinking maybe they were dramatized but no... don't take her. Her grading is annoying, her tests are stupid "blue book" tests..
She is an awful teacher! She doesn't respect her students in the slightest. In my class, she practically picked fights with them. If you get on her good side she wont bother you as much. You have to take note of everything she says because she asks for mundane and unimportant info on the tests. Avoid if you can!
She's a little cooky. Gives long PowerPoint lectures. Just take notes and you'll pass the tests. They are blue book tests but are straight from her powerpoints. The class is boring but she is a pretty fair grader and there is only 1 project and 3 tests. If you need help she usually answers quickly. If you need a humanities elective take her
She's a sweet lady, but very hard to understand. She puts stuff on the test she didn't discuss fully. If you skip class you would be screwed for the test, because she has classroom classroom discussion that she puts on the test. If you take good notes it's an easy A.
She is very nice and fun professor. She's a character to say the least. She does required the book, but I didn't get it because I already know most of the things. She reads from it in class so you can get by. Her blue books tests are easy. You can just write in short sentences. I was on her good side so maybe that's why I haven't had a bad experien
I agree that she is a chracter however, i feel that shtatese is too liberal and femistic for my taste. I want to talk these feeling out with her and try to have a nice relationship but she felt as if she did nothing wrong, at all if you prefer a connection and bonding point with your professor, she is just there to do her job student be damned.
I really enjoyed Dr. Heller's Women's history course. Her lectures are very interesting. As long as you pay attention and attend the class you will do well.
Awful. Lectures are not structured what so ever. No powerpoints. Better off learning straight from the textbook. No grades only tests that are chaotic. Be prepared for questions that were never discussed in class. To top it off she's rude and egotistical. Best way to pass is to be on her good side to pass. Do not expect to learn about women at all.
Dr. Heller is one of the most interesting teacher I've ever had. She is able to explain the material in many different ways in order to help students. I am really impressed by the depth of knowledge she has. I recommend to take History of American Women with her.
listen carefully to everything she says during lecture- it will most likely be on your exams. a bit sarcastic but i think she is a great professor.
Dr. Heller is truly a real gem in the professor world, she got her degree from Columbia. I had her for History of Minorities and she was amazing. Her lectures involve each and every person in the class. Come to class with information to share and you can participate in the discussion. So far I got an A and B+ on her written tests with one left togo
Professor Heller is a wonderful. I loved coming to her class and listening to her lectures. Shes very passionate about what she teaches and it shows. Shes very clear when it comes to assignments and what she expects from you. Exams are tough, but if you pay attention in class and do the readings, youll do well in her class. Highly recommend.
She uses PowerPoint slides to provide specific points of the lecture. Professor Heller will go into more detail about the specific points, so pay attention during lecture. If you study the material she specifies in the study guide for the tests, you'll pass the exams. Read the chapters and you'll get an A.
I really love her class. She explains everything in detail and always tell you exactly what to study for a test! Test are easy and the 20th Century history course was very well prepared! She uses slide shows, films and books . She has so much knowledge and love for history. I definitely recommend her class!
Professor Heller was great. She was definitely different and tended to run off track but her class was very informative and intriguing especially if you are into Women's history. The only thing I wish we learned more of was African American Women history. Prof Heller is kind, funny, and very knowledgeable. I would recommend taking her class.
Absolute worse teacher ive had at CCM. Shes very rude, and disruptive during presentations. When teaching she goes off track way too often and the tests she gives, which are a mess, have questions on topics never taught.
This is my second class with this professor. She is always positive and does encourage conversation which can lead to discussions off the topic but that is one of the things I enjoy about her lectures. I believe her interjection during presentations are meant to help a student who is missing a point. I would recommend any class she teaches.
One of the worst teachers Ive had to deal with. She is extremely unorganized. Shes overwhelmingly rude when people present. She doesnt give them Time presenting because she goes straight to critiquing and asking disruptive questions that theyd answer in the next slides if shed just stop. Its so hard to learn from and is all over the place.
Prof. Heller is an excellent professor. As long as you pay attention and complete the assignments you will do well. Prof. Heller knows a lot about Women's history and she makes the class interesting.
Don't do extra credit, she doesn't keep track & won't count towards ur final grade. VERY strict on attendance & lateness. If u take Women's His. she'll mention she went to Bryn Mawr 100 times. I did really well on tests but they're graded unfairly & unclearly. might like her if ur white & basic. was excited for a female prof but disappointed.
I would not recommend this professor to anyone. Her lectures meander and sometimes go on tangents that are unrelated to the topic. She's a bit rude to the students as well.
Heller is not a good teacher. Her lectures are without structure and will lead off, unprompted, on tangents completely unrelated to the matter being discussed. She is also rather rude to her students.
Her lectures of off topic a lot and she rambles often
she's rude and condescending. gets extremely off topic at least three times a lecture. interrupts students after asking them to answer her questions. will frequently interrupt students during presentations. goes off on tangents DURING exams, very distracting. AVOID HER IF YOU CAN. gets annoyed if she must repeat herself for any reason.
Horrible professor. Gets off topic half the time & doesnt follow the lecture. Didnt know what I was learning for two weeks because she was switching between topics.
Although I really did not enjoy her class when I took her in 2018, I was one of her favorite students. It was only because I participated and asked questions. BUT BEWARE WHEN YOU ASK QUESTIONS. If it is off topic she will be rude about it and make you feel like an idiot. Her tests were fairly easy if you're a history buff.
As long as you put effort into your work and participate you will do fine. She is a nice lady and cares for her students.
Professor Heller seems difficult at first, but after one or two class meetings it became clear that she really wants her students to succeed. Participate in her discussions and show that you care about your grade and she will grade you well. Come to class with the reading done so you don't sound like an idiot.
Goes off topic about her personal experiences visiting historical places which did not add value to historical lessons. Did not cover all the material in the syllabus. I struggled to believe this was a college level course. Professor demonstrated no ability to stay organized and manage the course time well. Exams/Grading is a joke for college level
Extremely opinionated. If you disagree with her or your words seem insensitive she does not like that.
Prof. Heller is very good as a professor. She literally tells you everything you need to know before any test or quiz. You would have to be a very lazy student to fail one of her classes. If she calls on you it's in your best interest to know what you're talking about. She can seem to be mean at times but if you get to know her she's very nice.
Professor Heller only assigned 4 homework assignments throughout the class. She encouraged us to buy the textbook and other reading materials, which I did not, still ending up with a B+. She doesn't let you turn things in late, which is fair, given that there are 4 homework assignments with almost a month given to work on each.
4 homework assignments with no midterm or final. You do have to read "Night" and "Black Boy" and watch a 30 min documentary to do 2 of the hws. Pace yourself and do the assignments little by little because she is strict about deadlines. Syllabus gives clear grading criteria.
This class is pretty easy if you just follow instructions. Everything is clearly stated on the syllabus/announcements. She lists out everything you should focus on when studying for tests and as long as you pay attention to lectures, you don't really even have to read the textbook. Don't miss too much class and be attentive/participate a bit
Whilst overall she does a good job covering the subject matter, she tends to be quite mean and overreactive, often blowing a fuse over people doing mundane things such as leaving to go to the bathroom. On top of this, she displayed clear racism all class, speaking negatively about Mexican immigrants, and claiming all Hamas worshiped Mein Kampf
She can come of mean but in my opinion she just ask basic things of her students: come on time, do not use your phone, do not leave class every second, and just be involved. Quizzes are straight forward and she tells you everything you need to know. If you remain respectful and listen no reason why this class should be an issue.
Attendance was definitely mandatory, a lot of the topics discussed in class (not in the textbook) were on the tests. Was kind of (negatively) biased towards certain people/sides we learned about so it was hard to differentiate when I was learning about something factual or something that was her opinion.
Kinda racist
- she was very interesting - I felt like if I asked her question you seemed to annoyed - if you were late, yes she would make smart ass comments - exams did not make sense : she would make the questions very hard to trick you ; question were based on what we talked about in class, not on the book - I heard Dr. Lee class is better - good luck !
very rude
-lol show up to class, if not best believe she will lower you grade even though you did okay on her exams - don't be late, if you are she will make smart ass comments & she will questioning you a lot and tell you if you were early you would know what we are talking about.
she not be teaching
talks a lot about her personal life lol should not be teaching
do not take this class with her , she is very rude Dr. Lee is better
she is a joke
exams did not make sense
rudeeeee
not helpful
talks a lot about her life
she is a joke
read exams are hard
Sometimes she does not stay on topic and rambles on. Her tests may have random stuff that she will not teach.
She is lecture heavy, but has a wealth of knowledge, connecting history to current events. She requires participation, pay attention & it isn't difficult. It is topic heavy & she requests uninterrupted class time. She is enthusiastic and less structured, a refreshing change for a ridged topic like history. She thoroughly reviews for essay tests.
n/a worse teacher ever, like stop teaching
should not be teaching
stop teaching
test does that make sense
Awful, I learned nothing. Grading was harsh and sporadic, docs points on your responses and comments facts are missing even if you included them. This class was five assignments worth 20 points each, the final grade was out of 100, meaning there's little room for error in assignments. Her assignment questions make no sense. She's extremely rude
The online course is disjointed and a difficulty to navigate you don't learn much maybe better in person but overall a detestable experience wouldn't take again 3/10
This class is very demanding, but using unstuck AI alongside the textbook helped me stay on top of the material. The professor talks a lot about their personal life, which can be distracting.
Professor Heller deeply cares about history, thats why she's tough when it comes to grading. Overall the work load was understandable since it was online, but if you email her questions or even visit her on her office hours for help, you will do just fine. (P.S. make sure you give details on the assignments, she wants details!!!).
Great professor if you enjoy history. She was very clear on the criteria for the class. Put great time and effort into her lectures to make sure we got the most out of them. The test she gave out were good and meant to challenge you. The lectures she gave were very straight to the point and very enjoyable for me. Would take again given the chance.
She is rude , literally stay away she does not like people of color !
This lady needs to retired , go home lady , you are not a good teacher !
