sexy cougar!
easily the best teacher at cap
A wonderful, inspiring person who knows how to teach! She makes learning an interesting subject that much more involved. You had better learn your stuff - this class is not a cake walk.
Very interesting, experienced and has a lot to offer. Overall excellent professor!!!
Misleads you into thinking the exams are easy when they include nothing you learn in class. Total flake!! nice but whats nice gonna do when the exams are bogus?? Take someone else. She's knowledgeable but not a good prof at all!!
The sweetest teacher there is, but don't be mislead. It appears like she'd be an easy teacher, but she's tough.
She is so cheerful!!! But she has NO opinions- too objective. HARD exams, her notes are impossible to copy.
excellent teacher who is very considerate. watch out for her marking though.... and the notes are impossible to comprehend.
Is an excellent teacher, knows her stuff and is always open to random class discussion, opinions and opinionated people
she's the kind of teacher who's difficult so you vow to never take a class with her again, but yet you keeeep going back! She's SO great! I need my Isola fix....
I have taken several classes with Rita and have found her to be an inspiration. She is casual, down to earth and extremely educated in the field of sociology. Rita is a wonderful instructor and a wonderful person!
loved her class. she is a super nice and dowm to earth person. and a great teacher.
Very helpful and very open. Take advantage of her office hours, this is where the best discussions are held. She's challenging and not hard, easy-going but not flakey. A great teacher that knows her stuff.
a fantastic teacher with excellent insight. you'll learn something if you listen. her exams are very tricky. sometimes she tests you on things that were neither in the text or in her lectures, but don't be alarmed, you can still get a good grade if you study and listen.
she shows great enthusiasm in her lectures and treats students with respect. great prof but the exams are pretty tough
EXCELLENT! Brilliant teacher, exams a little tricky, but the insight into the world she gives you makes it all worth it.
She was kind of all over the place... and would use some strange questions on her exams... like stuff from the table of contents in our text!!!
I took this course 7 years ago but what I learned still resonates with me! She is a "fair" marker and very helpful! Do the work, ask questions, and reap the rewards!
Rita is amazing!! I strongly recommend taking her classes. She can turn dull material into interesting, and she is so helpful and insightful.
Very disappointed. Controlling, overly effusive and utterly trite.
Pretty interesting instructor, very nice. Classes were pretty helpful and entertaining. She really does her best to prepare you for tests, and her exams were easy. No big exam essays in this class. I definitely recommend Rita over Bailey
Rita's OK. But not great. Her classes are very slow paced, so if your a person who easily loses interest if it's not engaging, then avoid Rita. On the other hand, she's fairly clear in her lectures. She's somewhat approachable, but sometimes ignores student in put during lectures. I'd have to think twice before I took a course with her again.
I can't say that I was interested in soc before Rita's classes, but Rita is really good at teaching it and makes it really interesting. She's a really fair marker, really nice, very helpful, and shes just awesome. Even though soc isn't my thing, I did extremely well in her class; she's a great prof and great for getting u interested if u weren't b4
she's alright - can be boring and tedious at times.
Very nice prof, tries to connect with her students. Classes are slow paced because she is explaining theories. They are involving. Very straightforward class, she tells you what you need to know! Overall she made the subject interesting and fun. A lot of laughs!
Rita is fun, clever and enthusiastic. Her classes can be tedious, but then it's 4 hours long. She handled annoying students well and encouraged people to think. The class was structured, simple, but still interesting. For first-year students, I would recommend it -- just take it as 2 classes per week!
Very nice, approachable. Likes to involve students in discussion. Only knock; multiple grammatical errors in overhead notes and test questions. Particularly frustrating on tests. She worded one question so oddly that I didn't know what she was asking(!) Still, I enjoyed her class, looking forward to Soc 101.
She's extreemly caring and passionate during every class
She is a nice teacher! The material is very very boring, but she brought it to life. When she noticed the class dozing off, she would make it interesting again, by making it appeal to us, and bringing us to the material. You have three assignments in this class, and their all easy, but you have to spend time on it. SUCKS AT PREPARING YOU FOR EXAM
Rita was simply the best teacher I've had so far. She's clear with what she wants and extremely helpful to all students. She's enthusiastic and keeps her classes interesting. Her notes and lectures are extremely helpful to tests and projects - so pay attention! I would highly recommend registering for Rita's classes. You won't be disappointed.
Rita's introductory sociology class is great- her style is very straightforward, but also quite effective. Read her assigned chapters of the texts at home, and she elaborates in class and gets you to take down the key points. Her papers include a wide variety of subjects, and the Critical Article reviews are easy marks. Her class was great!
Great Prof! Keeps you interested all the time. Try to read ahead of each class to insure understanding of material. If you take your notes, do the assigned reading and listen in class you WILL get an A. No surprise questions on exams, she's always prepared for classes. Overall a pleasure being in her class, accommodates all types of students!
passionate, ++ passionate. This woman is into sociology. She looks really happy during every class. She's a tough marker thou.. YOu have to study for midterm, final. Very picky on your papers too.. she helps her students, but you just have to do alot of work, don;t take her if you want some easy mark.
Decent marker. Helpful with essays. Very into her teaching and keeping her students interested and involved with the class.
Rita is a great teacher, but her exams are nightmare! she gives you m/c where all the answers are the same. But she is an easy - marker for written assingments, and very easy to learn from in class. Her lectures are always fun and interesting, but u can have to do your readings, for SoC 100 there are 3 papers, midterm and final
Rita rocks! I appreciated the material covered in sociology previous to going to class, but she's encouraged me to look further into the discipline. I'll probably take another class specifically with her!
I LOVED HER! SHE IS AMAZING. rita is educated inside and out. she is one of the best profs i've had in my life. i transfered out of cap 2 years and still i cant forget how great she was. her teaching style is perfect and she will help you if you need help with anything. but you need to read the book for sure to do good in her class
TAKE HER CLASS IF YOU CAN SHE'S AMAZING
Rita is a fantastic teacher. Read, every night, online and textbooks. Essays are big! But if you have no troubles with those then you're in the clear.
Great prof! Loved her, her interest and passion encourage me to try hard and I was rewarded with a great mark. Wish she taught more classes, her class was great, although you cover the history of "dead white guys" she knows it's boring and keeps your attention.... Somehow
Rita is a very helpful, smart, easy going, fun prof! She is the perfect combination of everything that makes a good prof. She can get a bit side tracked, but it is never in a deconstructive way, it always has relevance to help you as the student understand more in depth what is going on. I would recommend taking any of her classes, she is AMAZING!!
Awesome teacher who had a way of capturing her class and inspiring them. She is extremely knowledgeable and ensures that what you are learning is relevant. Many of us took Rita courses term after term just because of the quality of instruction! Highly recommended.
She's really a great teacher. She can make the boring topic become ground to the Earth and became really interesting. I found that her notes is not really helpful but if you listen to hear explanation at class, it will soon make sense. Her exam will make you have to write at lightning speed bcoz there're too many to write!
Amazing teacher, interesting subject. Her lectures are extremely important, only one textbook and we only used 1/4 of it. Take notes and pay attention in class and you will do well.
What an amazing teacher. Explains everything in great detail, and always includes everyone in the class. Really interesting subject material. Best teacher I had in two full time years at Capilano
RITA IS AWESOME! She is the best prof I have ever had, she is clear and brings the subject to life. She is also cute and hilarious.
I love Rita! She is so awesome, beautiful, smart and funny! Basically my dream woman!!! Soc 101 is an interesting class and fairly easy to get an A in. I would recommend her class to anyone:)
I took 3 Classes with this prof because of the prof not the subject. She is very engaging and very nice, and a fair marker. She is very open-minded and easy to follow. She does encourage participation so PARTICIPATE!
Rita is super nice, but in my opinion not a very good teacher. Most of the class was very underprepared for the midterm because there was some stuff on the exam that she hardly covered in class so be sure to study A TON for the midterm and final. Fair marker on papers. And again very nice & helpful, but I would not recommend taking her class.
Rita is a phenomenal teacher. She will inspire you and challenge you. She has a great sense of humour and is great at getting her students thinking outside of the box. She is inspiring!!
Following her lectures is like watching a child with ADD. When exam time came i had to rewrite all of her notes with my book and attempt to teach myself all of her concepts. She is unclear as to what she is looking for and when you ask her for help she can barely keep on the subject long enough to make sense. I USED to have intrest in sociology.
Rita is a quirky and nice prof but her lectures are so dull. Exams are relatively easy since she posts what is expected on moodle so just study well and you'll do great. Not helpful outside class though since she usually very brief. Her notes are also sloppy and messy so just read the textbook since her exams are based on it in the first place
i dont usually rate my professors but i have to come here to rate Rita. Ive been at cap for 6 semesters and shes the best professor ive ever had. i dont care if you dont like SOC but you actually learn something. Shes freaking great and i strongly recommend her.
I"m back at school for the first time in 5 years and I am so happy to have Rita as an instructor. Her lectures are engaging and amusing while still imparting important information. She provides all the class notes on her moodle, and outlines her exams well. She is also great about sitting down and reviewing papers.
I took Rita's class because she had such high ratings on here. At first I really enjoyed her class but her exam was absolutely ridiculous. She is a very hard marker for her exams but marks papers fairly. Again her exams are useless and even if you know the answer to the question she will never give full marks because she expects way too much.
best prof i have had at cap. she makes the subject material very interesting and is a very fair marker.
hands down one of the nicest and easiest profs at Cap. Did bad on the midterm and first paper. Managed to boost it by the final and 2nd paper to a b. She gives you a great outline on what will be on the tests.
Rita is one of the best profs in Cap, she is fun, engaging and in general an interesting person. Also a fair marker
She is the reason I am interested in Sociology! I think this explains how much she knows and how valuable her class is.
Rita is a pretty good teacher, she's nice and she helped me with one of my essays after class time. She's a fair marker on essays but her exams are hard. Her notes are all online, but go to class because she does explain the topics more and give examples. I did have to study by myself often because I didn't understand her notes.
Rita is the best instructor I ever had at Capilano University. She is extremely passionate about sociology and it shows, through her ability to articulate information through her lectures. She encourages people to participate during discussions. She is the reason I developed an interest in Sociology. I would 100% take another course with Rita.
Rita is a great prof. Her lectures are interesting and make you think; although for me it was one of those classes where you need to actually listen instead of relying on the powerpoint because she talks a lot about the points in detail. Midterm was easy; mainly stuff covered in class.
Rita has lectures that seem to last a lifetime. If you are prepared to see her discuss ideas that she seems to have no idea about and tries to add relevance by using terms that she knows ... join her class. I have been taught by Rita twice now and each time i find that she contradicts herself constantly which is frustrating.
Rita knows and clearly loves sociology. In turn she wants the same for her students. Her method isn't rocket science.. If you are present, take notes, participate and READ THE MATERIAL, you will do well. Her lectures are very interesting, inclusive and relate to today's world. I highly recommend her as a prof and will definitely take her again.
One Mid term Two Papers One Final Power points are key in her class !!!!! Moodle is your friend for this class
I took Rita's class because I did a fantastic job at her SOC101 class. However, I didn't realize how difficult her course was until I got back all 3 papers with a C-... SIgh*, consumer consumption is supposed to be common sense, and yet it's so difficult to put it in an essay. Do not take this class if you can't stand long lectures and many papers.
Rita is truly a wonderful prof and a great person as well. Her classes are always inspiring and she played a huge role in my decision to choose Sociology as my major. I wish all profs were this good. Expect to read and write. I promise you'll appreciate it in the end.
I've taken both SOC101 & SOC210 with this wonderful prof (I recommend both). Rita is funny, relatable, and passionate about sociology which is very important. How you're going to enjoy the class is to really listen to her lectures. Her examples is what has gotten me A's on her exams. They really stick into your head. Take her classes shes great!
Not a very good teacher. Her lectures are not the easiest to understand i dont even think she understands them. Just teach yourself the material you're better off.
Some teachers just say the lines. Rita is earnestly invested in every class, and makes sociology come alive. She has a real talent at teaching, and does a masterful job at getting the class involved in discussions. There aren't many teachers like her. Take this class.
Rita's lectures are easy to follow and engaging. Definitely my easiest class to sit through this semester. Rita always finds ways to spark a discussion and include the class in the lecture. Her tests are easy as long as you take basic notes in class and follow her study guide. No surprises as long as you go to class.
Shes so sweet and has amazing style. No homework, just quizzes a final and a paper.
Rita is a very frustrating prof. I only had problems with her throughout the term. She was not available and would not respond to emails. I would not recommend taking a class with her. The final exam was ridiculous and not relevant to any class material plus no outline or review was given.
Rita is pretty unorganized, and tends to be kind of all over the place with her in-class lectures. Good note-taking is a useful skill to have in her class, as everything is based off of what you do in class, and also her notes are everywhere. Literally. Her notes will go all over the board with diagrams and confusing bubbles. Don't buy the textbook
I loved Rita's lectures. She doesn't always give formal notes so you have to write down everything she says because she tests you on it. She is kind of unorganized and does not give clear instructions for assignments. She gave us a detailed outline for the midterm which was amazing, but left of hanging for a very hard final, she is helpful though
Rita is a very approachable professor. She makes class interesting and gives a lot of good examples. Even though it was hard to understand the textbook, she explains it well in class. Her quizzes are kind of tricky, but the final is based on the quizzes! There is one final research paper.
I really enjoyed this class. Rita is engaging and passionate about sociology and communicating why it is an important area of study. My one complaint would be that she was a little disorganized with her moodle page and dates. But, if you do the reading and study the key terms, you'll do great.
I really enjoyed Rita as a prof. She is passionate about sociology and it's value and has a chill, fun personality. If you do the reading and pay attention to the key terms you'll do well. Her one downside is disorganization of Moodle and power point/notes. Take good notes in class, read the texts.
Nice person, passionate. Disorganized with notes and lecture. Jumps all over the place, forgets her lines of thought, leaves questions unanswered. Integrates students into lecture. Ridiculous quizzes instead of exams. Expensive, outdated, obscure textbook. No email responses. What should be an easy class is frustrating because of her teaching style
Her lectures are really engaging and I definitely wouldn't skip if you want to stay on track since she breaks down the heavy material from the text book into bite-sized, digestible bits. I'd still recommend buying and using the text book though since she does quiz on it occasionally and it'll provide a significant crutch for the term paper.
Rita is an amazing prof, but she lacks a lot of organization as well as prompt email responses. She also doesn't engage in after class questions which she would just dismiss me. She's an amazing lecturer, be careful though.
Rita always made class enjoyable (which is not always easy at 8:30 AM lectures!!) and she used awesome examples that made the material a little easier to digest, since its not necessarily the most interesting stuff. Would definitely recommend a class with her!
I absolutely loved Ritas class. Her lectures are so interesting, she uses real-world examples that help the information stay in your head. She does like it when people join the class discussions but also as you show up you will probably get the participation marks. One of my favourite profs at cap. But do not be late to her class, will get pissed
She is the best professor ever!
Rita is the best professor I've had so far, she is very passionate about her lectures which makes you become super interested. She keeps her lectures up to date and super fun! Tests are easy and she prepares you well with the practice quizzes posted weekly.
Really interesting lectures and Rita is the sweetest. However sometimes she makes things more complicated than they need to be when she explains a concept in her lectures and sometimes they can feel a little all over the place. But I liked how she did narrow down what we needed to know from the textbook as there was a lot of info.
Rita was very accomodating and understanding of outside circumstances. her pop quizes prepare you well for the tests but some test questions I could not find in the lectures or readings even after the test. she gives plenty of time for the quizzes which have questions from the practice quizzes earlier in the week. u should speed her video lectures
Rita is a really nice prof but agreed with the other person that quiz answers were hard sometimes because we never read about them.
Do the work with reading and the lectures, and you'll do well in this course. Rita provides great lectures and examples in her lectures that make it easier to understand and grasp the concepts of theorists
She helps students to grow and I submitted my assignment a month after my due date and she still gave me 80% marks of it. She's really good.
Rita is very caring and nice teacher. Her grading criteria is clear. She is not a tough grader. Her assignments are simple and she gives a lot of marks..
take courses as soon as available
Rita is a caring professor who makes the course material interesting. The assignments are manageable, but you'll need to attend lectures and do the readings to do well. For added study prep, try using unstuckstudy alongside other resources like ChatGPT.
Rita is a great lecturer, very engaging! She doesn't read off the slides and makes sure to include lots of current examples, accompanied by historical context. I get the sense she cares about her students.
