A wonderful, funny, smart teacher. She ken her stuff and she was always helpful
Very disorganized. Does not structure the course at all. Leaving students very confused about what to study! Just highly irritating and prone to go off on boring tangents that have no relevance to the subject at hand.
Agree with negative comment. She is very dishonest and unreliable. Gives out r andom grades. Students will never see any of their grades.
She loves to talk about sex, she's my mom's age ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Great teacher. Funny, keeps you interested in the subject and is relatively easy compared to most history classes.
One of the nicest teachers around, but sadly one of the worst. Learned nothing in class and passed with a B -- a random grade because I never got any tests or quizzes back. Goes off on pointless tangents and hardly teaches anything. Still, she's nice.
nice lady but not very good at setting a schedule for course work/tests and sticking to it
nice lady, pretty funny, tests are okay. not organized, not clear, haven't really learned anything, likes to tell stories.
very easy class, use notes on tests, all class lectures and watch videos alot. she talks about EVERYTHING. no strict attendence, and hardly any work out of class.
Easy class with a nice, easygoing professor- quizzes and tests are on a film series- these are pretty easy. Notes do not need to be taken. Not very organized but knows her stuff. This is a laid back way to get some history credits.
she's really funny and likes to tell stories. you just get tested on movies and tests are kinda hard but it dosen't matter, cause you never get them back..they are usually takehomes. has lots of good stories
She is the easiest teacher I have ever had. Go to class, so she knows you and you will do fine. Tests are easy and class is easy!! Easiest history credit around!!!
Rita is one of the nicest professors around. Take this class if you want a good grade, but if you want to actually learn about history I would not suggest this class. She is a good storyteller
Don't do much in this class, lots of stories, she knows alot, I think she kinda gives grades because she did not return anything, and there are take-home exams...
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU WANT TO LEARN HISTORY!!! ALL SHE DOES IS TALK ABOUT HER FAMILY!!! NO MATERIAL WAS RETURNED TO STUDENTS!!! GRADES GIVEN SEEMINGLY INDISCRIMINANTLY!!! I HATED IT.
Don't count on seeing any grades, don't ask her to fill out any recs, she'll forget.
The most unhelpful, irresponsible, and irrational teacher on campus; the word teacher does not need to be mentioned in the sentence with this woman. Run for your lives, she's crazy.

this teacher sucks. she never really gives you work and all she does is talk about south carolina and her family and religion. It's a complete waste of time. I think I would have actually done better in another class cause if she doesn't like you no A 4 u

I was always on the brink of sleep taking this class. I like her as a person, but as a teacher she sucks. We haven't gotten ANY grades back so I really couldn't tell you how easy/hard she is. If you DO take her, go to class!
Worst teacher ever.Chooses favorites out of the class. Never gave papers, quizzes or tests back.Never showed up to class.Never taught anything.Waste of time.
BAD, BAD, BAD. This is a bad teacher, we never got any tests or quizzes back, but they were hard. If i had it to do over, i would not take.
Easy, but Horrible. I don't recommend her to anyone. Waste of time. Doesn't give back any tests or quzzes so that you may see your grades. However, if you don't want to learn anything about History, like I did, then you should take her.
WASTE OF TIME. No grades ever were received. She never taught. Again, WASTE OF TIME!
Love this Girl. I had a wonderful time in the class. We rarely talked about history but when we did she knew her stuff. I would suggest to anyone wanting to fulfill your basic History requirement to take her. You will have a blast and not be stressed out.
I enjoyed this class because I had interest in the topic. No you don't learn a TON (most all ready know it before going to college...it's only 200 level)but I enjoyed the class and I enjoyed her as a teacher. Made me think of standard of living during the times as I never did before. I enjoyed and reccommend this class.
nice lady, sooooo boring, no matter how much work you do you will get C+ or B-...if thats good for you take it
She is ****. She talks sh..t about asian people. but if you need History, take her class. very easy. don't know how you're doing in the class though. but she talks a lot about her life. funny stories though. she teaches history of her life
Ms. Livingston makes History interesting and exciting. I really enjoyed her class. She was tough, but do your work and you'll do fine. If given the choice, take her class, she's great.
she's the best lady ever!! If you ever get the chance to take her I totally recommend it!! She is freakin awesome!!! Believe me get on her good side and due your work and you will not regret taking her!!!
OMG she's awesome! She doesn't take attendance, talks like she is your age, and gives NO homework. Lets you use notes and books on the final, and had one test this semester! Only one paper about a movie of your choice! Great lady, takes the pressure off of history!
Whats not to love about Rita? She kinda reminds you of that crazy aunt everyone has that makes you look forward to family functions. If she were 30 years younger I'd take her out for drinks, maybe some Taco Bell, and then home for some wild sex. She knows her history so well that she can relate any topic to some crazy story about her family. FUN
Sucks. 'Nuff said.
talks about her family a lot, crams in a lot of stuff at the end, but allows some time to use the book and your notes on test!
Liv is awesome. She is really funny and shows a lot of videos. I would recommend her class to anyone!
Liv is great! She is really funny and makes class interesting.
Liv is the****. She's so awesome. DEFINITELY take her class. SOO entertaining. I wanted to go to class, and it's really easy anyway.
Hardly every used the book. Midterm, easy 5 page paper, one or two quizes and then the final. E-mails powerpoints to you with the info you need to know. Class was easy and she's easygoing herself. I'm taking her again for 102. Passes a role around each class...miss no days get 3 extra points on your final grade, miss 1 get 2 points, etc
Certainly not a demanding professor. We mostly watched videos and listened to her personal anecdotes. Great if you're looking for a GPA booster, but not if you want to learn something.
If you want a "cool" teacher take her. If you actually want to learn something, search eleswhere. She was very unorganized and slow in sharing important information for class projects. First book test took over a month to get graded and returned. Her book tests come straight from cliff notes and sparknotes (word for word). Not recommended!!
Dont take if you want to learn anything, or get back papers on time.Takes attendance every day.Get to use notes on tests.Gave us all the questions on the final. I like Liv alot, but she's unorganized and if she says she's going to e-mail you something it takes weeks to get it.
This was the worst course I've taken in my College career. Mrs. Livingston may have been the nicest professor I've had, but as a teacher she is incompetent. The course was supposed to span 1865 - 2007 and we didn't even reach the Great Depression because Professor Livingston felt it more important we learn about her family life than history.
She is hilarious!! The class seems like it will be very easy bc you watch lots of videos and don't use book much but watch out when that first test comes around. I love history and knew how to study so I was okay and got an A in the class, but you gotta know what she's looking for-just her stories alone were worth the class. She knows everything!
Easy class but not recommended for students that actually want to learn. You'll have wonderful in class discussions about her family but low amounts of discussions about the actual course. She gives the questions and answers to most tests, so they are easy as long as you study. Recommended as a stress free class.
She's a nice lady but the class is a joke. She makes you GOOGLE some of the answers for her exams, including the final; and half the stuff on the exams weren't even mentioned during class discussions. Her jokes were not even close to being funny, especially at 8 in the morning, but if you want a good grade, go for it.
This was the most frustrating class I've taken in college. She's rude and has major mood swings. She's not even remotely helpful and it's the last week of the semester and I have NO idea what my grade is because she doesn't give us our tests back. However, there's not a lot of work in this class.
she is the definition of mrs clause! loved the class, nice lady, 3 tests and 3 books to read which i spark-noted, she gives you an idea of what is on the tests before, the only problem with the class was that we havent gotten anything back, but if you just go to her office, you can find out, i hate history and i liked the class
This class was definitely not hard- she pretty much gives you each test question and answer the day before the test. The majority of your grade depends on your final project (which she grades kind of tough). She is very opinionated and goes off topic a lot. Over all, I would recommend taking her. attendance is mandatory and she takes it everyday
She's rude, doesn't return e-mails, and picks favorites. I only got back 1 of the 3 tests I took. Got all A's that semester, except in her class, which I expected to get an A in, because it was easy and I thought I did well. Take her anyways. No papers. Tests are easy. Just get/stay on her good side and it'll be the easiest class ever.
she's crazy, but in a good way. she likes telling stories which don't put you to sleep. a couple tests, a couple books, one presentation, and a couple extra credit assignments. easy A if you put any effort into the class
She is one crazy lady. Off topic, picks favorites, you really learn nothing. The final project was pretty time consuming but the tests were easy. If you like history, do not take this class (it will feel like a time waste)
I LOVED livingston. taking her again for next level of history simply bc i barely ever studied & got an A. gives review sheets before every test, is willing to give out all answers to study by. also gave out free answers on exam. She lectures most classes but emails powerpoints to you as well. nice smart lady, be outgoing to her & she'll love you.
Love Livingston! She is soo funny. Tells the best stories in almost every single class! Study guides are the test questions (and she gives you the answers either in class or her office). Strict on powerpoint grading, but overall an easy A!
It depends what you want. If you are a history major, don't take it. She is an awesome person, very generous(bought her ENTIRE class Starbucks aka took orders and used her credit card) and very funny, but doesn' teach ALL too clearly so if you just wanna get gen eds out of the way, take her for both sememsters of history. Not a single paper
Prof. Livingston is such a good teacher! She is so funny and super sweet and is pretty easy. There are a few tests and a power point project but that is a piece of cake so take her she's amazing!
Liv is the bomb. She gives test reviews out, multiple opportunities for extra credit, tells funny stories, and buys her whole class starbucks once a semester. I've taken her twice now and have gotten A's both times. Your major grade is a group powerpoint..easy. Make friends with her from the beginning and you're golden
I am an A-B student and I've never tried harder for a C-. She picks favorites like crazy, doesn't go over any material in class and expects you to teach yourself EVERYTHING! She makes it a research class when it's suppose to be an intro course. Throw the syllabus away the first day of class because you won't go through half of it.Get On Good Side!
Livingston is an awful teacher. I have not learned one thing this semester. She can barely stay on topic in class and her lectures are really useless. Strict attendance policy and if you walk into class 5 minutes late be ready to get spoken to like you are an irresponsible child. Do NOT take her, you will regret it.
If you really care about History then choose a different professor. If you just need a good grade, sign up ASAP. One of the easiest A's I've ever gotten, and history is my worst subject. Yeah she doesn't really teach, but she gives study guides, which are copied and pasted as the test. I just memorized the answers and aced every test. Easy A!
She's retiring next year... So she just does not care. I absolutely loved her! If you actually care about history, don't take this class though. We had to do a huge research paper/presentation... she didn't even read it and gave me an A- for the class. She is not doing the paper next semester (Spring 2010).
I loved this teacher. If you have a problem studying on your own, don't take her. If you want to have a little fun, she's great. She's very fair and outspoken. Don't take her if you can't handle being picked on a little.
I took her for hist 101 and 103 and i absolutely love her! if you can't study on your own, don't take this class otherwise very easy and fun class. Lectures are pointless, but she always has tons of stories to tell.
If you enjoy history or academic discussion steer clear of this class. She is a very enjoyable woman, class is interesting, but we talked about history maybe 4 days out of the semester. None of the grades matter either, dont skip and you'll make a B.
She is so easy! If you hate history, this is the professor for you. There is very little work but make sure you do well on everything because you won't get many chances to make up for it.
Rita definetly knows her history. i had her for two history classes and received an "A". She talks too much about her family. Who Cares.... She uses curse words. Nothing major but makes the class a distraction for those whom it offends. Useless class for my business degree. Tedious papers. Exams difficult. Nothing like her outines and notes.
Attending class is mandatory. Paying attention is not. Material for tests is 100% book and almost none of it is covered in class. That said, Do the reading at home and you'll be fine. Do. not. rely. on. her. lectures. 70% of lectures are about her family. Not joking or exaggerating. Good person, bad teacher.
I LOVE her! She talks about her family and things she's done a lot so there isn't much history. Most entertaining class I'm taking. Make notecards with study guide information, and read the chapter (you'll do go on the exam). You have to go to class though.
RitAAA is the greatest. She always tells stories and makes you laugh. She uses real life experience and will make your days brighter. Read the texts and visit her office hours... You'll learn so much and have so much fun doing it! TAKE RITA! Rita for President.
She's a great person but not the best teacher. Her lectures don't have anything to do with the tests. You basically have to learn everything on your own. Sometimes she's helpful, but if you ask her too many questions she starts to get annoyed. Sometimes she will let you use notes on tests but if you don't get to they're very difficult.
doesn't teach. She talks about her personal life. We rarely talked about history. She does give you all the stuff on the exam, but the essay questions are material not covered in class and most of it cannot be found in the book, if any at all! she does curve grades sometimes, but she gets annoyed when you ask questions. Take at your own risk.
WORST PROFESSOR ON EARTH
One of my favorite & least favorite teachers. Love her to death- she is so funny and I always enjoyed being in her classroom. But as a teacher she isnt the greatest. I spent countless hours on this class but my efforts were never enough. Extremely frustrating I do not recommend taking her.
I had to withdraw from this class. Rita never stayed on track, always talking about something that had nothing to do with anything. 1500 page novel and 2 ridiculous tests on it. On the midterm there were questions on it that were from a completely different time period than we're studying. She's NOT consistent. Sometimes she's funny.
NEVER TAKE! She was the worst teacher I've ever had. Made this intro class much more difficult than it should be. Assigns a massive book that is pointless and gives very detailed quizzes on a 1000 page book. Tests were 100 questions on nothing that we spoke about in class. Final group project is very hard and takes a outrageous amount of time.
Her tests are actually the hardest thing I've ever taken in my entire life. There are not many grades so when you mess up your grade hits rock bottom. She herself is a funny teacher, and she helps at her office hours.
Never actually teaches during class so when it comes time to study you basically have to teach yourself a large amount of info. Makes you read a huge novel and quizzes you on it but never talks about it during class. Very inconsistent in what she wants for projects and papers and never gives a clear answer.
Very sweet and funny woman. AWFUL teacher. Changes test info and project info constantly and on short notice. May or may not be in her office during said hours. Grading "scale" is all over the place. If you study the info on myhistorylab you'll do well enough on the tests.
Lovable personality, but worst teacher I've had at CofC in all 4 yrs. Tests are based on the book. Her lecture: tangents about her kids, football and college years smoking pot. If I had to guess, maybe 8% of the material on the test was covered in class. She compensated by reading out 13 of all test answers. Didnt learn anything from her.
Very nice woman but not a good teacher. The course consisted of an 850 page historical fiction novel and two quizzes on it, two tests which were entirely taken from the book, and a final project. All of the quizzestests were very specific questions and the project was incredibly time consuming. She gave answers to test questions but that's all.
I'll be honest, she's a great person. Hence "person" not teacher! In 3 years she's by far the worst teacher I've had! GPA killer! The course is summed up of 2 quizzes on a 1,000 page book, midterm and final. Oh, one of the quizzes was on direct quotes from the text win 500 pages! Final projectTOUGH.
nice person but awful awful teacher, you think she's going to be easy but she grades ridiculously hard and you have to read a long ass novel and than she asks the most outrageously specific questions like what was the girls color top on page 1110? LIKE NO! doesn't actually teach any history, everything she does go over is not on any of the tests
I know a lot of people do not like her, but I think she is amazing! Her lectures are kind of all over the place, but is enjoyable to listen to. If you ever need help, GO TO HER! She is more than willing to help. I would recommend her every time for 116!
Liv is a great professor. She is very smart and knows History. Liv can speak politically incorrect at times; but she means well. She basically lectures all class and some days you watch a video. Barely any tests. You read two books take a quiz on them and then have a midterm exam (answers are online) and a paper. Final is a group project and test
I really enjoyed Liv's class. She knows her information and tries to make class interesting. She's a very sarcastic women and is hilarious. A lot of people in class don't like how she isn't PC all the time, but I had no problem with it. She is there to help if you ask. I stayed after class and we had many great conversations. Take her!
Liv is a great teacher. Had fun in her class, and it's fun to hear a prof in her 60's speak plainly, while not espousing their personal beliefs. NOT PC. If you're easily offended by sometimes raunchy topics, avoid. Two tests, two book quizzes, two papers. if you need help, she is happy to be there. Doesn't use OAKS. I'd take her again anytime
Rita is a riot. She's incredibly knowledgeable, and is happy to help her students when they ask for it. That being said, she's been around the block a few times, so she doesn't take guff from anybody. Just be proactive when you need help. She's an awesome lady though, and she breathes life into her lectures- Can't say that for every history prof.
Awful professor! Went to her for help on the biggest grade of the class and she called me annoying and told me she had lunch coming. I was just caring about my grade, and she said in class that she advised us coming to to office hours! for what? turning us away because her lunch is coming? DO NOT TAKE HER, SHES HORRID.
Lectures felt like they went on forever; she would tell a lot of personal experience stories that got kinda off topic but they were hilarious nonetheless. Midterm was hella hard and long (but she curved our grade.) One book test. One paper. I'd take her if I were you.
Rita is a wonderful person, but I didn't learn too much from her. Most of the learning came from the study guides before exams. She can get off topic very easily, but she is more than happy to help students with anything they need. I would take her again, but she will probably be retired in the next couple of semesters.
This was the worst class I have taken at cofc so far just because of Rita. She is all over the place and asks ridiculously specific questions on tests. Lectures are mandatory and useless. Just don't take her for this class.
Rita was a very outgoing professor who made it easy to be comfortable in her class. Lecture were enjoyable but also led to tangents of personal stories, but she knew what she was talking about. She's also pretty far about grading and attendance. She required one paper and one book that was hardly used, solid class
