Good professor. She tries to make a hard class easier. You WILL need to study. The quizzes are right out of the HW problems. She takes your ten best quizzes so take as many as possible! Exams are reasonable and not long. She gives a little extra credit. If she is available for Applied Calc, take her!
Rita is really nice and intelligent. She knows what she's talking about and always makes sure her class is on the right track. She's more than willing to help inside and outside of class. Be prepared for weekly quizzes.
Professor Patel is an excellent math teacher! She explains problems really well, engages w the students, has neat hand-writing, and amazingly, makes learning fun! She is also always willing to help during office-hours. In-class, there are 3 tests, 12 quizzes, a mid-term and a final. For a good grade, attend classes, do homework & study for tests.
I was out of school for almost 6 years, so i had to take this course. Ms. Patel is by far one of the best math teachers i have ever had. She goes in depth when it comes to math problems and breaks it down. Attendance is a must. Tests are based off the homework so do the homework and you'll be fine. Ask for help if needed.
The class I took met twice a week so the material came at a fast pace, Ms. Patel would be great at making sure the material was being taken in by the students. Gives you enough quizzes to make sure that you get the most points. Offers a lot of help to her students, would definitely take another class from her again. Participation is good.
Ms Patel was easily one of my favorite teachers at COD. She has 4 chapter tests but the first one is just a review from 0481. Weekly quizzes and as long as everyone passes them then the homework isn't collected. Gives a lot of easy points for participation and such. She breaks down the material step by step until everyone gets it. Highly recommend.
Was my favorite professor 1st semester of freshman year. Gives lots of easy points for participation, cares about her students, and manages to make what would otherwise be a difficult class easy. Do the homework and you'll be fine for the tests. Highly recommended!
Dr. Patel is one of the best math professors I've had the pleasure of learning under. She's very clear on what you should know, and will always take time to help those who struggle, in class and outside. Homework is not collected, but she tracks progress through quizzes so do the homework anyway!! I can't wait to take more classes with her!
Professor Patel is awesome! She will take the time to go over any problem. When we do examples in class, she will stop and will ask if there are any questions. I appreciate her patience and all of the efforts she puts into her lectures. She has a great speaking voice. She will make modifications to the class for our/their benefit.
She is willing to go out of her way to help students with any question they may have. She tolerates students well and still helps them even if they are rude, etc. She works very well with the class, instead of a group of students and a teacher, this class is one unit.
Very tough grader. Does not help you with tests that average 100-200 points each. Even if you show you know how to solve a problem, if 1 part is wrong, you lose all the points.
A quiz every single week. Exams are tough and are worth a lot of points. If you don't do good on one, you will have a hard time passing the class. A lot of material covered in each quiz/exam. Can be overwhelming.
take this teacher , teaching style awesome .if you want to learn math take this teacher.
Dr. Patel is one of the best math teachers you could ever have, she tries to get everyone to participate and demonstrate understanding. She will not move on with the lesson unless everyone is confident in what they learned. She always helps students outside of class. If you fail, it's because you didn't reach out to her or speak up in class.
I love this teacher, the only thing that is difficult is that it is all test based. she does not offer extra credit. with this said, she is the only math teacher I have learned from and she cares. She makes accomidations that are nessasary. she treates everyone the same
Came to her after having a horrible math teacher and I absolutely love her. She is very knowledgeable, but is very good at explaining concepts and stopping when students are confused. She always asked our feedback about when we wanted tests and quizzes. The hw is not required, but she pulls test and quiz questions straight from it.
This class is very test heavy make so sure to study. However, the material was easy to understand and she is open to questions if you have them. I definitely would recommend her if you're looking for an easy math credit.
I am not good at math whatsoever, but this teacher was definitely the best college math teacher I've had this far. This class was tests and quizzes only so you don't have to do the homework but it will definitely be to your advantage. Quizzes Were exact problems from the homework. Overall she gives the student every opertunity to succeed.
Prof Patel was probably the best math teacher I've had in all my schooling. She is always willing to meet outside of class and do anything to help you succeed. She is very attentive in class and really pays attention to students' level of understanding. She truly wants students to learn math, take her! You have to work for it but she's awesome:)
I like Rita as a person and she is a good teacher. She goes over examples in class lecture style and is around if you need extra help. The difficulty with her class is that it is all graded based on tests and quizzes, with homework assigned, but never graded for credit. She pulls questions for quizzes straight from the homework. Be ready to work.
She is very good at explaining material. Quizzes every week. She wants students to participate though so make sure to be vocal in class.
Dr. Patel is a great Professor, she cares about her students and helps you when you ask. Always use her office hours if you aren't understanding anything. She is always happy to help. By far the best Math professor I have had in College.
I read all of these reviews before the class, and after being in her class, honestly, pick another teacher. I was disappointed, overwhelmed, and frustrated by her teaching style. Lectures cover basic ideas, exams cover difficult topics (many never explained in class). Its nearly impossible to do well in her class with her teaching/grading style.
Patel is an amazing professor with a great teaching style! You can tell she has a passion for the subject and cares about her students. I would recommend this professor to anyone, especially those who are not too confident in their trig.
Had Dr Patel for Trig. Very solid instructor. Her lectures were extremely organized, clear, and she adjusted the pace if she sensed the class was confused. She offers lots of extra help, and explains very well. Do all the homework, and read the chapter. Trig is not conceptually hard, but implementation can be tricky when time is limited.
Took her class, dropped the class in 3 week. Almost every week there was a pop quiz. She wouldn't let you use cell phone in class. She teaches at a very quick pace. If you are not good at math like I am, do not take her.
Took her class for Business Calc. Always willing to help and wants her students to do well in tests and quizzes. Her teaching style is awesome and if you pay attention you should do good. There was a quiz every week but she tells you which sections the quiz is going to be on. Requires you to review and work outside class.
For someone that teaches future teachers, she 's a poor model of a one. Lectures are read from the textbook and there's weekly quizzes that don't relate to the material. Does not accept late work and if you fall behind, she's makes sure that you can't catch up. Honestly the worst teacher I've ever had in my entire life.
Patel was a really good prof! She definitely makes you work for it, but genuinely wants her students to succeed. I always felt like she wanted us to not just learn the info to pass the test, but to learn the material and apply it to real life. She's challenging, but really good. Oh, and don't bring your phone out during her class, she hates that!!
She has a strict approach towards teaching... she always mentions how she was previously an accountant and I bet she was good at that, but accounting and teaching are two VERY different things. She's not meant to be a professor AT ALL. She'll quiz you every class, and explain everything quickly and in a way that you won't understand.
If you have taken Calc 1 before then it is an easy A. If you have not taken it is very difficult. Do not take her if you have not taken a calc class before. She rushes over the topics that are more difficult.
Suuuuuper quick and fast focuses more on finishing the textbook than if you understand. Nice... kinda She makes her test harder when she sees people doing good. Shes out to get you!!! Aaahhhhhhhhh!!!
She covers the material very quickly and reads the notes directly from the text expecting everyone to understand. If you have taken calc before, then you have a pretty good chance at getting yourself an A or a B in her class. If not, DO NOT TAKE HER. A third of our class dropped this course and majority were students who had not taken calc before.
I dont what went wrong this semester with me. I had 100% in Precalc and now I am barely holding C in this class. She is a nice professor but gives tol much homework. I was good at Math but now I feel I cant do it. Calculus 1 is very, I repeat, very different from Precalc. No harsh feelings.
Patel is VERY good at math but not a good teacher which is important for a class that is suppose to prepare you for teaching math. She's very fast paced and does not make you feel comfortable going for help and when you do go for help she is not helpful at all. Would not recommend taking her.
I took her precalc1432 class. She really cares if her students learn the material. She makes it clear what she is looking for and gives opportunities for you to pass. Definitely participate, it counts towards your grade and she can then see what you struggle on and gives more mercy on tests. Do not pull your phone in class, she will kick you out.
The best math teacher you can have at this college. She has plenty of time to spare for students outside of class, follows a wonderful structure for every lecture, and provides plenty of examples in class. If you pay attention, take notes, practice and put in a moderate effort, you will succeed. I made an account on this site just to back her up.
Literally just walks through the textbook the whole class, word for word, problem by problem. She is very accessible outside of class if you are willing to go in and make sure you understand the material.
Professor Patel knows the math she attempts to teach like the back of her hand. What she doesn't know is how to teach it. She is a freight train at the material in the book. Has no concern for the half of the class failing because she knows how to show you duplication not help you understand the material. Available in her office 8hrs a week though
Patel clearly has a passion for math and cares about her students. Her lectures are a bit confusing and she assigns A LOT of hw, but doesn't grade it. your grade will be made up of 12 weekly quizzes (you drop 2 ), 3 tests, and the final. the quizzes will be questions directly from the assigned hw. If do every hw question you should be fine.
If you miss some classes it's okay if you go and see her outside of class she is willing to help you. she really takes care of her students. Patel will help you out and explains you really well.
Professor can simply regurgitate the text book, she is not capable of any critical thinking and is symptomatic of the poor state of affairs in education today. Wrote learning is dead it's been slowly dying since mass publication took over and now with information being pervasive it is understanding application and adaptive thinking that we require.
Attempted to take her summer semester on-line Trig class. I work a full time job so I thought it'd be a good way to manage my time. WRONG! The absolutely obscene amount of homework leaves no time to study for the more important elements of the material. I spent nearly 30+ hours a week on homework. I can't stress enough, do not take this class.
I like to give her a rate of ZERO. She is not honest. I took her class online during the summer semester. She is too tough grader. She didn't give any partial credit. I had D for 3.5 points I needed. Till the last day, I was in touch with her to let me know if I need extra work and she said no you are very good. After the final, I was shocked.
Don't even think to take her. Terrible!!!!
I took her for math 2231. she gave us lots of homework. she is really tough grader I only needed 3 point to get an A in the finals but she did not give me any participation point because I did not speak in the class. i would not recommend this prof.
This teacher is horrendous. There is an insane amount of homework. I took Precalc I before this which is a 5 credit hour class, received a B and had a smaller workload than this 3 credit hour class. I work a full time job and had to call in sick to study because I had spent all the rest of my time doing homework. I had to drop the class.
She is a very tough grader. No mercy!
Had Ms. Patel for Elementary Statistics and she was extremely helpful and considerate towards the students in terms of grades. She always looked through tests and quizzes and gave us partial credit for anything we got wrong. She was very helpful outside of class and always had time to answer and questions you had.
Professor Patel is really caring and checks up on you. The tests and quizzes are based of the homework. There is a lot of homework but it prepares you for the test. She is very approachable and kind. There are four tests which helps a lot if you do not do well on one.
she is nice and gives partial credit, makes herself accessible, but gives ridiculous amounts of homework as if our lives revolve solely around this single class. too overwhelming and time-consuming for someone who has to work to pay for their school. don't recommend unless it's the only class you're taking.
She is caring and is willing to help you if you stuck on a homework question. Her quizzes are not motored by her or someone from the testing center which is nice. However, I find her tests to be very difficult. Sadly, her tests make up all of the grade. So, if you fail all of her tests you won't pass. I do not recommend her.
Runnnnnnnnnn while can.
She is caring and helpful whenever you need her for homeworks. But online class with her is very difficult, therefore if don't study enough or even if its enough & if you fail testes you'll mostly fail the whole entire class because her grading system is mostly based on the test. All hw's are only 10% overall grade
The worst out there where if she thinks you are lying that is it; no questions asked. There is so much hw that is due but heres the catch, it only counts for so little meaning if you are a bad test taker, you will do bad in the class. TRUST ME and do not take her class!! RUN WHILE YOU CAN!!!
Shes nice, reaches out to her students once in a while to see how theyre doing. BUT, we had to do EVERYTHING by ourselves. Read over a TON of PowerPoints to take notes and learn, plus do the homework which btw is A LOT. Even if you complete all of the homework, doesnt matter. Fail her tests, and you WILL fail the class.
Don't take her unless you want to fail
Professor Patel was the only teacher at COD that I wasn't able to rate a 5 star. You can tell she doesn't like working with her students. She's always in a rush if you want her to explain something. She'll say "I have 5 mins so make it quick". Not engaged.
i took this class as a NET over the summer, biggest mistake of my life. there weren't any videos for instruction, you basically had to learn yourself from powerpoints, and it was really hard material imo. you could be fine if you dont fall behind with the assignments but youd have to do like 2 a day to stay on track, and they can take a couple hrs
Very nice, Professor checks up on you and makes sure all is going well, but the class is very heavy with homework and quizzes. One of the hardest classes I've taken.
The class isn't particularly difficult if you put in the effort. She's difficult. Doesn't teach, or lead. Might as well call mymathlab the professor. The midterm and Final are worth 60% of the grade so make sure to do well on the midterm. Make sure to use statcrunch, God forbid you learn another software she won't allow that is in the book.
She is really nice. I took her for stats. The class is not hard once you learn stat crunch. Ask her to show you how to do it right away. I made the mistake of waiting. The class is a breeze once you learn statcrunch.
The class is easy. Everything is online but tests are on campus. No calculators on tests.
I took the online course. Easy to follow. Lots of qu. Great teacher. Always there to support students. Gives all projects at once with a due date. Checks in once in a while to make sure you understand the homework and provides great feedback. I wish I could take other classes from her. She provides lots of videos and is always available to help.
There are 4 exams no final. Videos and slides (not necessary) are in blackboard. Homework and quizzes are in mathlab. She is one of the better online teachers.
The class is pretty easy but you have to work. She is easy to get a hold of and will meet you in the evening which was what I needed. Overall the course was very good for being online.
The class is hard but she's great. I took her for Calc 1. Everything is online. The exams are taken though zoom and work is emailed to her. It's not easy but I recommend taking her.
She is a great professor at this college. She was very accommodating when I had to take a makeup exam. There were two exams in the class and lots of homework.
I reached out for help and her response was useless, i really don't like math so that was very discouraging.
LEARN STATCRUNCH! I once spent 6 hours calculating HW that I could do in 30 min in STATCRUNCH! Once you understand what you're doing there you'll be fine. It was an online class but Prof. P was accessible and nice every time I reached out to her & responds quickly to emails. Only 2 deadlines (for ppl like me who work the whole week it means a lot)
The class is really hard but learning how to use statcrunch made it easy so learn that first and dont fall behind leaving everything last minute. Only two tests and no final but lots of homework and quizzes. Was able to reach her through email mostly but it takes her a while to respond. Go in for math help and the math assistance and you can pass
She was nice but I found the class very hard. I ended up needing to drop since there was no opportunities to fix my grade.
She's very nice and responds to emails fast. The only reason why I didn't do well in the class was because I didn't spend enough time on it. Additionally, the grading was very harsh. Most of your grade is those two tests and if you don't do well on them you're finished. As long as you put in the work you'll be okay & she will help you too.
Disappointing experience with Prof. Patel's online course: excessively long quizzes & homework with numerous sub-questions. Excel led to errors, necessitating learning stat crunch. No support, no PPTs or videos, had to self-teach. Limited email help. Strongly advise against taking this course. GPA impact & lack of support evident in other reviews.
I took Calc 2, MATH 2232 with Patel but had to withdrawal because I was not managing the work load correctly. Patel is an amazing math professor and teaches very well. She is very kind and makes you feel comfortable asking questions in class. The quizzes prepare you for the exams and she clearly states what is on the quizzes/exams. I recommend her!
I have to say that professor Patels online class is not the easiest. She assigns a ton of homework. For online classes, all assignments are usually due before you take the unit exam but I personally still think its a lot especially for a class that doesn't really count towards your credits. I would say she is also a pretty tough grader.
Everything is on my math lab and on the homework half of the problems are not even explained in the videos. The test have like 10 questions on them and you barely receive any partial credit. All the tests are required to be taken in person at the testing center. Her final is worth 25% of your grade and its cumulative. Worst professor ever.
Can't list MATH-2232, but I took her for Calc II not I. Very accessible outside class & helpful during office hours. Grades are based on 3 exams, 10 quizzes, and the final (weighted = exam), but you take 12-13 quizzes, so your bottom 2-3 are dropped. Calc II is tough & you need to do the homework to succeed even if it isn't graded!
Her teaching style made it calc two worse. She has a strict no electronic policy. Her quizzes were straight from the homework but her exams were extremely tough. Our last exam no one got to finish and there was no curve. She then laughed and said our final would b worse.I wouldn't recommend her at all.
I had a C thru the semester and for the final I needed a A+. She took points off for no reason from the participation points and is so harsh on students. She is really negative teacher who is always talking about dropping instead of motivating students. I dont know whats with her and being fair, its like you are asking for her life instead of points.
She does have some rules: no phones or electronics use during lecture. Homework is assigned but not graded, so you do what you need to. Weekly quizzes, 3 exams, and a final, with content clearly communicated. Come prepared and do some homework and you'll be fine. Show up unprepared, ask no questions, do no homework=get expected result.
I took her for math 0481. It's not hard but no calculators on exams. The class would be a breeze with calculators. She emails back quickly. Homework quizzes are online. Exams on campus. She gives partial credit. She is very nice is office hours.
I took Dr. Patel for Calc II as the highest-rated professor. She's professional but indifferent and clearly doesn't care if students fail, often being judgmental of Calc I-level mistakes. Her lectures suit math-fluent students but not visual learners. I'd recommend Zinzer (interactive), Hill (genuine, helpful), or Soo (great but tough).
Dr. Patel was not very hard to reach out to for help, but in lecture she mostly had us do problems. There was weekly quizzes which were not too bad, but sometimes there were curveballs on the exams. Also, participation points were not really participation points, so you'd lose points if you weren't her raising your hand 24/7.
I took here for calc 2. The class was way harder than calc 1. You will work your butt off. She's very nice and very helpful especially in office hours. Weekly quizzes are from homework and exam problems are from the book. If you do the homework and text problems you will pass for sure.
Easy class! I took this as a refresher. It's a remedial math class I took online. She has due dates for units. As long as you get the work done on time, you are fine. Exams are taken at the campus. I would take her again.
Online class that's not for credit. Do the work and you will pass. Teacher responds to emails quickly.
I took Patels online gen ed math course. There were only 4 chapters in the class. There were two exams and a final. She gave 8 weeks to get through 2 chapters. So 16 weeks to get through 4 chapters. The book and videos are online and there is a website for other thigs. Take her. Just do the assignments and you will pass.
Hard class for development class that is not for credit. She is nice and helpful but studying alone is hard. I go see her many times and that helped my grade. she gives partial credit for exams so show work. There are 3 exams, many quizzes, and too much homework. Also, 1 final. I would take her but there is a lot of work for no college credit.
Straight forward class. Do the work and you will pass. She responds quickly to emails and seems nice.
I took Patel twice for calc2. She's very good at explaining things. I got an A in calc1 but didn't know anything. That prof gave everyone As. First time I took calc2 was hard but I understood everything because she explained things. The second time I passed. Take her if you want to understand. If you want an easy A don't take her.
Patel's class was good for being online. Homework and quizzes were what you expect. They are done at home. Two exams and a final that had to be taken on campus. That was surprising since it was an online class. She told us before the class started though. She emailed students separately which was nice. Overall very good for an online class.
I actually took Patel for 1533. It was a math class for business majors. The class is pretty easy. Just come to class participate and do the homework. She explains the math well. Totally take her!
Rita Patel is a great professor, she explains things well and she is accessible outside of class for office hours or email to help when you need it. Don't be afraid to ask questions in class. The homework may be optional but you should do it since the weekly quizzes are are based on them.
Mrs. Patel is really nice. There are four exams, homework, and quizzes. The exam problems are basically homework problems. If you do the homework you will pass. She seems nice and responds to emails quickly.
Don't let her see any phone/computer or you'll be kicked out, besides that she is pretty nice. Must go to every class but homework was optional. Quizzes almost every week. Participation throughout the semester will give extra points. Office hours 4 days a week. Her lecture style is pretty good and she provides a note packet which was very helpful
It's no joke about the phone. She catches you she kicks you out of class. She's very nice but crazy about the phone. Go to class and pay attention and you will at least pass the class. You do the homework and you should get a B. She easy to meet with and explains things well. Just make it to class and you will be good.
Lectures are good but she's difficult, she make difficult quizzes and exams and tough grader
She's always willing to help students if they need it but just a heads up if you are taking this course fully online: ALL TESTS ARE IN PERSON with NO CALCULATOR. I didn't know about this until the first day of class. Her tests are very difficult and nothing like the assignments we get. Her class is really hard, if you struggle in math don't take.
She's a good professor and a good human being but her class is very difficult, you'll get to learn what's going on after 3 to 4 questions. She should try to make it more easy for students to grasp. Lastly, if you use you phone, you'll be kicked out no excuses
Taking this class with Professor Rita Patel is like looking both ways before crossing the street and getting hit by a plane. She is a very tough grader but can be merciful. This class is very fast paced so be sure to do the homework. There are weekly quizzes so if you dont understand the material within 2-3 days it will be sure to tank your grade
Patel really knows her stuff and wants students to engage in her class (if you have questions, ask her). Her lectures are to the point and her notes very organized. Homework is given but not graded, but it's in your best interest that you do it. Her exams aren't impossible, but you can't study the night before and expect to do well.
